So was excited(and hungry) and had wanted to visit this spot. Went in happy, and had that smile turned upside down by the kohl rimmed girl on the counter. She did not greet me, simply looked at me with a look that said she was not happy to be there. I pressed on, smiled and ordered, she barely said anything and told me my food would be brought out. I ordered a turkey and avocado sandwich straight off the menu. Well 20 plus minutes go by and the people in front of me have had their food for a good 10 minutes and the people who came in after me have had theirs for at least 5. My mom joins me and orders at the counter, I ask about my food and kohl eyes says "they are making it" not sorry its taking sooooo long for us to make a sandwich, and I point out the people behind my have their food and she says unkindly that they ordered before me. Well I know I noticed who was ordering, so did she need to do that.. That being said my sandwich was good, and my moms, which oddly enough came out about 2 minutes after mine, ordered 20+ minutes apart was good also. So if they somehow forgot about my order, which is what must have happened, why not just say that and offer and apology? That would have gone over so much better. That girl was just not nice. I will not return. Sad because I really wanted to like a local company.

Not the most upscale coffee show but I like the ambiance. The face that they are open doors in the summer. Mm you can sit in the shade and still feel the warm breeze. Location: W square is quieter place than most others and that's good since you can get a coffee shop that not too crowded but also provides you a great service. Good for folks like me who want to work on something and need some lighter music that not too hip or too pop. Something in the middle, well balanced. I recommend their gelato and pesto chicken sandwich ( ask for pressed, mmm delicious) For brogrammers out there, these guys have Beers, yes you heard me. Sam Adams!

Rude, inattentive service (the young girls behind the counter seem more preoccupied with each other than with the customers in front of them). LOUD, irritating music (probably whatever said girls behind the counter decide to throw on Pandora). This is the biggest deal-breaker for me. I go here to get work done, and this environment is not conducive to that. There was a hot minute back in the spring where they played soft classical music pretty consistently---no more (and such a shame, too). Overall, disappointing. Don't see any reason to return given the abundance of other coffee shops in the area.

A-ok in my book! We stopped here on Saturday while running some errands in the city and it was just the place for a snack and a hot drink out of the blistering cold. I enjoyed a lovely pot of tea, while Nick ordered an espresso and bacon gruyere scone. His double espresso was the size of a single (hmmmm) but decent nonetheless. I also had a bagel with bacon cream cheese which was, again, decent. A nice respite from the frigid weather, and a cozy atmosphere brimming with studying college kids (or so it seemed) but overall kind of unmemorable.

We went on a cold late afternoon, two Sunday's ago. The girl behind the counter's personality was quite flat. We asked where to place our order and she advised us where we were located was fine. However, half-way through placing our order, she started taking another patron's order by the cash register. Therefore our food did not come out together. When it did arrive, my soup was lukewarm at best... Barely edible, but truly I didn't want to bother asking the girl for one more thing. The caprese salad did not appear to have dressing (usually it is accompanied by balsamic). My tea, my friend's sandwich (when it finally arrived) and the brownie we shared were all good... It is a little cafe, which has the opportunity to be great, but this experience was less than. If I came back, it would likely be for a drink only. Prices reasonable

I should have guessed that after the flop that was the Pandora Sushi bar that perhaps costume jewelry manufacturers should stay out of the food business. The fast friendly service could not make up for the lack of umph in the coffee even after a shot of espresso. Really people how hard is it to make a decent cup of coffee? Now if they removed the tea and coffee element then I'm on board as I am totally fine with their gelato and wine Here's my proposal - get a little warmth in the place, some chairs that don't look like they belong in a hospital waiting room, add a fireplace or just some warmer colors and re-name it "Gelato & Vino" and all is forgiven. Your move A&A

Went here for a cup of coffee after getting my nails done to discuss the many epiphanies I've had during my mid-twenties with a friend. Coffee: yum. Cappuccino was a little wet, but the espresso was pulled perfectly and I actually smiled the second I tasted my beverage. Ambience: perfect. The window was open, drawing in a pleasant breeze and keeping the café just noisy enough that we could talk without being overheard by the lanky fellow at the table next to us who thankfully appeared to be studying for an exam. Laptop vultures- yes, they are here, perched at their tables and making nests by the good outlets for hours at a time. Then again, there are also book clubs, business meetings, and dates. The food here definitely needs improvement to match the quality of the coffee. The gelato was okay, if a little soft. The barista behind the counter recommended the croissant above all the other pastries- it's flaky and light, but still doesn't hold a candle to those at other bakeries around town. I'd come again for coffee, but recommend eating elsewhere, as the quality of food currently sits far below its price range.

I did not expect much from T and Js, given that it's a franchise-y branch of the Alex and Ani dynasty. However, I was pleasantly surprised to experience a casual, tacky-bracelet and esoteric-free vibe. This is a great place for a casual meet-up or a decent solo work/study space. Floor-to-ceiling windows line the front, providing patrons with a wonderful view of Wayland Square, while the back of the seating area offers both meeting-style and 2-person seating. The pricing is decent, the specials board is intriguing, and the gelato is a nice touch, albeit way too sweet. The staff is attentive and knowledgeable without being overbearing. A neat place to grab a coffee and chat, but not "local" in the same sense as Coffee Exchange or Bolt.

I don't know if any place can fully replace my love for The Edge, but I am happy to see that Teas and Javas has kept the vibe going. Just like the former tenants, Tea and Javas offers coffee, bakery items, and lunch food. They have added to the menu gelato, smoothies, and beer & wine. They have also opened up the window space for more light and claimed the bathroom space as part of their own business - a nice change. I'm unfortunately not a huge fan of their mochas - my go to coffee drink, but I like their greek salad (I add to chicken to it) and their paninis.

I come in here all the time for a quick bite in the morning. The staff is always very friendly. The almond croissants are particularly delicious. When I'm looking for an herbal tea, my favorite is the lotus peace petal. I think that's the name- the hibiscus herbal tea. I love the breakfast tea here too. They have a nice environment for students or professionals to do some work with wi-fi. My only complaint is that their sizes for coffee are a bit smaller than other cafés. Right now I am having a Delicious hot chocolate at the cafe and it was so pretty I should have taken a picture. Maybe next time!

Teas and Javas I think started out much stronger than it is faring now. As a long time fan of The Edge, it was hard for me to accept a new, maybe not as good place moving into their former space. When Teas opened I figured I would give it a try anyway. For a while I enjoyed some of their food, their iced coffee/lattes and the ambiance. I loved the european feel of the café serving alcohol and the outdoor seating. In my opinion, this is all totally gone. On a recent trip there with my father for a quick lunch I was more than unimpressed. They no longer have the plethora of alcohol displayed behind the bar, and no menu for alcoholic drinks what so ever. It looked bare and boring. The staff seemed preoccupied and not at all interested or the least bit caring of any of the customers and their orders. I just got a salad and the lettuce was brown and wilted, the tomatoes tasted like they had been in the fridge forever, the only thing good was the red onions. When I asked for a drink menu they had a old laminated paper one just hanging around which was not readily available. The server was not rude, but exceedingly unamused and void of any helpfulness. She forgot my fork and I had to walk back in to ask for - which really, I wouldn't mind but I did however after this whole experience was turning out to be pretty crappy. I am not a big fan of L'Artisan's food either but I would much rather go there for that European-esque café feel and outdoor seating. Probably will not return to teas.

Three words: chai tea latte! This place's chai latte is far and away the best on the hill (seriously, do not go to the Starbucks on Wayland Square if this is what you want). It's creamy, delicious, and tastes decidedly like chai. Get it warm during the winter. You won't be disappointed. I see that a previous review complains about the iced version of this drink being too watery, and I can't really speak to having had that experience with the warm version. The coffee isn't bad either, but I personally prefer Blue State or Coffee Exchange if I can make it to one of those instead. Food is definitely overpriced, but you don't have a ton of options if you're camping out here for the day for a study session with free wifi. Come here between meals if you can, so you don't shell out too much for a meh sandwich.

Swung by here for some iced lattes and a muffin last weekend. The stars are for the decor and the muffin. I wish we had read the mixed/poor reviews before trying this place. The latte was less than great. I had a sip and dumped it out at home. It's a cute place, just needs some help. There seemed to be a lot of confusion around how to even make the latte . . .

This place has really good ice cream. I really liked their cupcakes and they were really great but they stopped selling them which was very annoying. They also had very good cheesecake which they stopped selling too. The sandwiches are gross. The teas and coffees are pretty good. The problem with this place is that a lot of things that were good they stopped having and the sandwiches and things are gross.

I really really love this place. Teas and Javas is my go to spot, whether it's to write a paper, have lunch, catch up with a friend over coffee, have a drink, or get dessert. Yes, it is Alex and Ani, but it really has taken hold as a local spot. The staff is extremely friendly and willing to make you just about anything. Most of the staff know my exact coffee order now, which is something I can say only about Teas & Javas. The food is excellent. Though a little on the pricey side for a local coffee shop type place, everything I've had has been fresh and delicious. Plus, the staff is usually willing to make substitutions or changes if something isn't quite to your liking. Most importantly, the coffee is some of the best I have had, period. Every coffee beverage I've had the delight of trying has been excellent. The coffee is always brewed to perfection SBD fresh. Also, Teas & Javas serves alcohol. Though small, the wine and beer selection is great, a good blend of locals, crafts, and classics. For mixed drinks, they use top shelf liquors, will make you just about anything, and always have great drink specials. The dessert coffees are extensive and taste too. Lastly, the atmosphere of Teas & Javas is a winning one. Modern, but comfortable, the ambience works for studying, for socializing, for just reading. Pluse, there's free WiFi and many plugs accessible for charging laptops and such. It's always clean and well kept inside, though it can get quite warm inside. During the summer, Teas & Javas is opened up and they set chairs/tables in front for outdoor enjoyment. It's really great and "neighborhoody."

Over priced, under flavored. Got a chicken salad sandwich that had absolutely no flavor. It also cost $9 and included nothing-no chips or pickle. I wanted Swiss cheese on it and they were out... At 1030 on a Saturday morning they are out? My boyfriend got an ice coffee that was brewed really weakly and also had no flavor. Not impressed.

Went here for a coffee and lunch yesterday and I left satisfied with my meal. My review: Service- OK, but not the best either. First, the server who took my order was dutiful in that after I ordered the Caprese Ciabatta sandwich he asked me if I wanted anything else. However, what he said was, "what would you like to drink?" This hit a personal pet peeve; he assumed I wanted something else. Why don't you instead say, "would you like anything to drink with your order?" Isn't that more polite--I think so. Grievance aside, the food was pretty good, but I'm not too sure about the "freshness." My sandwich and it's little side salad satiated my hunger, so portion size was spot on. My sandwich bread did get a bit soggy as a result of the way it was plated, perhaps if the salad was in a bowl my soggy sandwich fingers would have been prevented...? I liked the atmosphere of this place. There were several other 20-somethings there--mostly young women (aka heaven for you single guys out there). Same environment can't be said of the nearby Starbucks. Teas & Javas may even be a decent place to study, but based on other reviews it seems that management may start pushing you out the door after a few hours. I didn't experience this myself though. Summary, I would come again, but only if I was in the area.

I've been here about 5 times since moving to Providence. This is a great spot to meet up with a friend to catch up. I love it to do work in because they have soothing classical music and a relatively low level of noise. Their menu is decadent. I've had the skinny bagel sandwich for breakfast and it was everything I didn't know I wanted. I've come in here to grab some chicken salad, tomato & mozzarella, and quinoa to go for a picnic, spur of the moment last fall. Delicious option! Today I just tried the salted caramel gelato, amazing. The baristas are sweet, bring you your food with a smile, and I just love the grand windows and available seating at Teas and Java. To me, these are the things that matter at a cafe.

  • Carly G.

This is a fairly reliable local coffee shop. I've enjoyed their hot apple cider on a few occasions. I also had their mushroom soup, which is pretty good. I enjoy coming here to do work, but some of the tables are a bit too small if you want to spread out with your computer and some other materials. It's a very convenient place to go when you're waiting for a dinner reservation at any of the nearby restaurants.

If you've ever suffered though one of those tough, crispy, cardboard-tasting croissants that Starbucks has the nerve to sell, and were sorely disappointed, you'll be glad to learn that Teas and Javas has the BEST croissants you will ever have the pleasure of devouring! I've been to France and when I was there, I ate a croissant every day for breakfast. Whenever I see croissants offered in a cafe, I always grab one, so I might be a bit of an expert in that department. I'm probably even a little jaded and hard to impress. The croissants at Teas and Javas are SO FLAVORFUL, so FRESH and so MOIST. They are just chewy enough!!! My sister got the almond croissant with buttery cinnamon and almonds baked inside, and I had a classic croissant. I wish I had brought a couple to take home for breakfast so I could pretend I was in France again. As if the delicious croissants weren't enough, our espressos were PERFECT. Not too overpowering, with a nice subtle sweetness! The cafe is so cute inside! And they even have some nice outdoor seating, very conducive to people watching! Thank you Teas and Javas!! I will be back soon!

I can only go from the gelato and it was icy and overpriced. While I'm not exactly expecting a roman holiday here, I think not having ice chunks in my gianduia would be a good place to start. Actually, I don't think it was gianduia, which is a shame, because any gelato place would be nuts to not offer the classics. You would think that gelato anywhere would be memorable enough to know what flavor I had. That is a sad sad state of affairs my friends. The gelato was so bleh I don't even remember it! I'd say skip Teas and Javas and head across the square to L'Artisan instead. The outside tables are also way more comfortable and there is more of a noise buffer from the street. Also I don't know how anyone gets schoolwork done here. THE TUNES ARE TOO LOUD! Plus, if you sit outside you can smell the patchouli wafting from Alex + Ani every time someone opens the door. Makes me sneeze!

  • Linda R.

I've been here multiple times to study. The lattes are lackluster. The service is okay. I got yelled at for eating candy that I got from down the street because no outside food was allowed. On another occasion my friend was reprimanded for eating an apple he took out from his backpack. Overall, those experiences were deal breakers for me. I think there are better places in providence to grab coffee or to study.

    (1)
  • T K.

Bottom line: +coffee/chai, +study spot, +good bagels!, -overpriced sandwiches/pastries - Coffee I tried: regular & Chai: smooth, good strong coffee with a variety of milk including soy - Food: Italian sandwich was a bit salty, bagel with lox were a little skimpy on the lox but pretty good bagel close to NYC (gasp!) - Dessert: delicious dessert, can't wait to try their gelatos once it gets warmer out! - Ambiance: a bit loud for studying after 5pm, but before that, great sunlight with those huge windows, free WiFi, and nice tables. Not too cozy for casual reading.

  • Jack C.

Despite being such a cozy city, Providence actually lacks a sizable number of cozy coffee shops. When the previous cafe closed down and this one replaced it, I was initially very excited to have a new study spot. But this place hardly knows customer service. Orders are frequently wrong. The menu is an almost indecipherable due to formatting. And the managers are like hawks. I remember once picking up a bunch of free candy from the store next door, and returning to my computer and coffee at Teas and Javas, only to be told that I'm not allowed to eat the candy there. They will swoop down on you for even eating an apple. As for their own food, it's decent, but obviously not made with the same dedication as at Seven Stars, for example. Lastly, don't even think about going there for a casual hang out or study session; stealing their electricity without buying anything or sitting there for too long after buying something are heinous acts of visiting this business. I'm very disappointed with this place.

Well well well, look how much Alex and Ani has grown in the past few years. Seems like yesterday I was showing my NY girlfriends my awesome new bangles. Now they have armfuls and I am done-zo with them. I digress from my review of Teas and Javas... in my high standards of cafes, Alex and Ani has not succeeded with the cappuccino and latte quite yet. While the staff was friendly, the layout of the wayland café is kind of awkward. The cappuccino was extremely far from traditional and not even that hot. Sorry to say Alex and Ani, but keep trying with your attempt at a café. Note to yelpers, they do sell booze here. A plus and tip of the hat to European cafes...

  • C J.

I like the selection of pastries, sandwiches, and coffees/teas; and hey, there is alcohol too! I miss the cheesecake though... The only bad thing about this place is the music. It is way too loud and crazy. I feel like I'm in a club when I come here, or shopping at Express. Not the ideal cafe experience. Good location and hours. I would like to come here more often, just do something about the music!

I've been to Teas and Javas three times in the past 2 weeks out of desire to check it out and convenience. I have to say, I'm left feeling underwhelmed by the whole experience, except for the 'tude' that exudes from the space. The ambiance was very nice especially with the floor to ceiling doors that were open and the air washable to flow nicely through the place. The food was 'ehhhh' not offensive but just not that good and was seriously overpriced. One day last week I got a cup of soup and an iced tea and it was $7! Seriously?!? This is a cafe people, lets keep that in mind. The folks working there didn't seem totally with it either, on the slower side and the attitude that filled the place with stuffiness is enough for me...live had my fill. Sorry Teas and Javas, I was hoping for a more relaxing, tranquil experience.

  • Laurie S.

So I've been back a few more times. Service has been much better since my original visit. I appreciate the improvement and/or new/friendly staff. I always want a cupcake hear, and they are good, but a little dense and a little too cold for my liking. Good for them is that I rarely say no, but when I do, a good blondie or regular brownie suits me fine. Love that there is always a table available, the good drinks and the open window.

  • Jillian W.

Good place to do work, staff is friendly and food is okay, albeit a little overpriced. Do NOT get chai latte, especially iced. It's extremely watery and definitely not worth the $4.30 for a small.

  • Jennifer E.

Cozy place to grab a late night coffee or adult beverage. I'm not too much of a fan of their weak coffee (my husband doesn't mind the lattes) but I do like that they have beer, liquor and a full bar. They have a wide array of baked goods, sandwiches, and other yummy stuff but I have only tried a free sample of a mint brownie (which was quite good). During the Summer it is nice to hang out on the patio and watch people walk around Wayland Square, but it can get a bit crowded and loud sometimes. Not my favorite coffee shop/cafe in town, but if I don't feel like wandering from home, it will certainly do.

  • Katie A.

I'm updating my review to remove a star for the super annoying Alex and Ani advertisements. They are distracting and make me LESS likely to go next door!! A previous reviewer mentioned that they thought it was unfair that reviewers are dinging starts for the coffee shop's association with Alex and Ani- which I generally agree with but NOT when its association is being shoved down your throat every 10 minutes. Otherwise, I'm still enthusiastic about the decor, available seating, and wall plugs. I have asked about frequent buyer cards and was told that "Corporate" would need to decide and it isn't likely. This definitely seems like the type of place where it will take a lot of pressure to get anything to change, which is unfortunate.

This place is really growing on me. It's hard not to compare to the former tenant, and everything that was wrong with the Edge they've tried to fix. Wide open space. Window doors so you can spill out onto the sidewalk European style. Busy but never too crowded to find a seat, even if it's at the high chair forced group table. Deliciously fresh teas - hot or cold. As for the food, I can personally support the hummus plate, Mediterranean sampler plate, and the greatest invention of all, the breadstick plate. Haven't tried any of the desserts yet, but they do tempt me frequently. Generally parking in Wayland Square is time dependent, and perhaps I've been spoiled by the summer quiet, but it's never a problem. Overall a nice place to meet, snack, or study.

This place gets four stars for the staff and management (and that alone). The people that work here are the nicest people ever. Something tells me that there may be a gun to their head when they say stuff like "love in a cup" or other ridiculous things. Despite the fact they follow a script (which is totally overboard to make your employees say specific phrases to every customer) the people that work there are very sweet. That being said, Teas and Javas, is suffering from an identity crisis. Are they a bakery? A bar? Do they specialize in teas and javas? I don't think they even know the answer (corporate should evaluate what they want to be). They have muffins, pastries, cupcakes, gelato, and possibly a few other items. Question for the peeps at Alex and Ani: When was the last time you went into a coffee place and asked for a danish and a whiskey sour??? Probable answer: never. They have a few types of teas and even fewer javas...which makes the name of their establishment incredibly confusing. Maybe it should be named "Gelato-Cocktails-Bakery-Teas-Javas-and anything else we can think of down the line"...it would be more appropriate. Bottom line: their staff is kick ass...their branding needs HELP. Oh, and one more thing. If I hear Mumford and Sons played in there one more time (it is on a 15 minute reel...) I WILL SCREAM. That's all for now.

[sad trombone noise] I stood in front of the counter for an extended period of time before a barista made eye contact, and even then he seemed confused ("does she....want something?"). I ordered a cappuccino and selected a chocolate chip/walnut cookie to-go. While paying and waiting on the coffee (and waiting....and waiting..........come on! I was the ONLY one in "line"!) the conversation was forced and awkward. The call for my order finally came - releasing me from pained-and-polite smiles (though the barista was certainly not smiling) - - - at last, I was on my way. The cookie tasted like a scone attempting to go rogue onto the desserts counter (second-day-old DRY) and the coffee was mediocre - pretty disappointing for being $6.50 order. There are plenty more cafes in the WaySquare area - venture elsewhere (ESPECIALLY if you're hoping for an in-and-out-quick-but-still-scrumptious cafe experience).

I loved this place... great for a first date or to sit back with a coffee and chat all night. They have a lot to choose from... coffee, teas, pastries, sandwiches, beers or even some mixed drinks. Friendly staff really seem to enjoy themselves here, which makes the place even more pleasant.

Move over, Panera Bread. Teas and Javas is here! I stopped in today for some "love in a cup." I opted for their freshly brewed Mango Green Iced Tea while my BFF sipped on a Salted Caramel Iced Coffee. Both were delicious. What makes this spot different from your run of the mill coffee shop? ALCOHOLIC COFFEE DRINKS! YES! I tried their Bavarian Creme coffee cocktail, iced of course. I forget what's in it, but I can tell you this - you can TASTE the love and boy is it scrumptious. My BFF ordered a delicious looking turkey & brie sandwich - bread made locally by Bristol Bakery. Next time, I will be sure to try their gelato (from Cold Fusion of Newport) and a dessert (from Mad Hatter in Newport). After running the boulevard today, I couldn't bring myself to break the calorie bank, even though the dessert display was very tempting. The staff is VERY friendly and patient (I couldn't decide which drinkable treat I wanted). All the windows open out to the street where additional seating is available. Very cute!

Other reviews mention the prices and they are indeed a bit exorbitant, e.g. $5.50 for a parfait. But I have been summarily disappointed by the atmosphere, especially the volume of the music. It is not at all conducive to studying. And no refills on drip coffee at $2/cup is almost pushing it. The baked goods are tasty, though. This place has potential, but it seems to be trying too hard to be trendy. My search for a cozy coffee corner continues.

This isn't in Fox Point. Why is it listed as being there? Pros: Good food, decent space, nice outdoors area, wi fi, very friendly employees, good hours. Cons: Very commercial atmosphere, doesn't show local artwork, high prices, horrible music / A & A advertisements.

Wayland Square definitely did not need another coffee shop but this one will get my vote just because they have gelato! I went earlier in the day for an iced latte and was not at all impressed. It was expensive and not that great. At night my husband and I went back to split a salted caramel gelato which was HEAVEN! It was super delicious and came with a little cookie on the side. It is a great place to just hang out and people watch. They do serve beer and wine as well (not on the menu yet). I also love that they are open long hours (7am-11pm right now but they said next week will probably change to 6am-11pm). Overall, a pretty cute little place that I will definitely be back in to for my sweet fix! I am upping my stars to 4 because I have been back to this place several times and really love it! All of the sandwiches I have had have been really good and I LOVE the gelato. The manager there is super nice!

Can I have just 1/4 star. Yelp makes you put a star even if the product is that bad and completely not even appetizing. Well that's the way the food /pastry's looked in the case all dried up crusty on top. The coffee is OK how can you screw up coffee anyway.. They better keep on making jewelry and forget the food business. I can get a monkey, pay him with a bag of peanuts and put out a better product..

It seems like Alex and Ani is in the process of taking over the world... Or, at least Rhode Island. But, if they continue their progress through other walks of life as well as they've done it in women's jewelry (makes gift shopping very easy!) and now coffee shops, I'm OK with that. They have Irish Breakfast tea, which is a big bonus for me - since I'm a tea drinker, and that's my go-to blend. They serve it in pots, which I like, too. I've had pastries and sandwiches there, all of which have been tasty. The service is always friendly and the place is always clean. They offer free wifi and have ample indoor and outside seating - and the outside seating has good shade, for those times when your fair-skinned self and sun-loving wife want to sit together. The only things that keeps this place from 5 stars is the lack of diet colas, and an absence of place to bring empty mugs/plates. Odd that it's a negative that they clear for you, but I guess since most coffee shops don't, I feel like I'm being rude if I just leave it all at my table... And I feel even worse if I bring it up to the main counter or dairy/sugar area. Anyway, if that's as bad as it gets, you're doing pretty good, Teas and Javas, pretty good.

Definitely a hot spot to come to during a nice autumn day. The decor is not typical of other coffee shops in the Providence, lending itself to a unique atmosphere. One aspect of Teas & Javas that sets itself apart is the liquor menu; this obviously means an occasional need for an Irish coffee or a glass of wine after a nice dinner. Being situated in the top neighborhood of Providence also has it's perks.

Good place but they play too much bad music (so much Muzak!!) Also they should use real whipped cream and lose the canned stuff

I agree with the fact that many of you based unfair reviews on the first few weeks of opening. And as a business owner myself, I know just how hard it is to get a new venture rolling. In addition to the fact that a jewelry company opened a food and drink service arm, which is not their previous expertise. Also, if you haven't realized, it is not just an affiliation with Alex and Ani, it is Alex and Ani! And as an extension of the positive energy thing they have going, they have a right to share their advertising with you as soon as you enter the door. If you ignore the ads every ten minutes, it can be quite a great place to accomplish some work. The tables and chairs are great, the extra outlets are always appreciated, and the menu is mostly good. The teas are an excellent variety of quality offerings, but no body here knows how to make a proper chai latte, so I stopped asking. The peppermint alfalfa tea is great. Can't say much about the coffee... And once it was too cold to stay for very long. But all in all, Alex and Ani is a very responsible, socially conscious company that is doing a world of good for RI. They are supporting causes, creating jobs, and building community with their brand. So while the cafe was not an immediate hit with me or others, they have come a long way and I give them a definite A for effort and vision. Can't wait to see what people are saying in a year from now!

I enjoyed my trip to Tea and Javas. The employees behind the counter were friendly enough. Although the register took forever!! A solid eight minutes per person to pay. I had the hazelnut gelato which tasted like frozen nutella and was delicious. I also got a cappuccino which was wayyyy too strong for my taste. We went around 8pm on a Thursday night and both the gelatos and pastries were pretty cleared out. I am sure they are just getting use to what they need to order each night. They have outdoor seating and those types of windows that open up basically the whole restaurant to the outside so even if you are inside you feel like you are outside. If I am in the area I will definitely be stopping by again.

Food: First of all, the food here is VERY OVERPRICED. You can easily leave here and spend $20 or $25 for a lunch. And the portions are TINY. Second, the quality of the food is BAD. It's not awful, but it certainly isn't as good as most cafes like the cafe Artists Point across the square. Service: The service is among the WORST I've ever encountered. Some of the staff are rude and aggressive with customers... I was recently asked to leave after less than 5 minutes because, apparently, one of the workers could spot a Starbucks cup that was sitting on my table. Seriously??? He had no evidence to suggest that the cup was even full or empty because the lid was on the cup. In reality, my cup was essentially empty (after having been at Starbucks earlier) so there was no way I would have been sitting there drinking Starbucks. He then launched into a diatribe about the store's "company policy" regarding drinking beverages from other places. I don't want to be lectured. So, I'm never going back. In addition, the staff often get orders incorrect and make simple errors. Finally, the wait-times for some items is excessive. I suggest people think long and hard before ever setting foot in Teas and Javas. Ambience: For a store that tries to appear homey and non-corporate, this is the most corporate feeling coffeeshop/cafe I've ever been to. The tables are sterile and metal, and the place lacks any character (no artwork hanging or any semblance of a local feel). The staff that aren't rude are incredibly "fake-nice".

It's really nice to sit here when they have the front open, and you can sit inside while enjoying the outside breeze. It's also very clean. That being said, the food and drink's aren't great. They're ok. The iced coffee - ok. My blueberry muffin, though, was honestly kinda disappointing. It tasted packaged, and certainly not fresh. But at the end of the day, there aren't that many cafe alternative on Wayland Square, and if I'm in the area and need to post up to do some work, this is a nice quiet place. Also, they sell booze, if that's your thing!

I'm not sure why this is at 3 stars. The food is delicious, gelato is great, drinks are fantastic and they're kid friendly. One of my favorites in the neighborhood.

I have a few basic needs when it comes to a weekend work spot: caffeine, power outlets, free wifi, decent food. In that sense, Alex and Ani's-- I mean, Teas and Javas-- delivers solidly. The coffee and tea options are decent and the food is actually pretty good (I especially love the turkey and brie sandwich with cranberry mayo on a homemade cranberry walnut bread). Bonuses: a full bar, gelato (affogatos!), sunny and pleasant decor, a tempting bakery case (great cupcakes). So why 3 stars? First, the music is the exact same playlist every single Saturday and Sunday, with songs interspersed with Alex and Ani's commercials. It gets really annoying. Other issues: their hot chocolate is made with what appears to be instant powder (think Swiss Miss, not Ghirardelli). They often go hours without cleaning tables when it's busy (no self-serve bus tubs). When you enter, you're greeted with "Welcome to Teas and Javas, home of love in a cup!" I find robotic customer service obnoxious and invasive; your mileage may vary. No frequent drink cards. T&J's is better for a quick stop than a long-haul work session. Come before 11:30 to find a table. The espresso is decent, the coffee is weak. Avoid the chai and hot cocoa (way too sweet and synthetic-tasting). Definitely try a sandwich and cupcake (skip the Mediterranean sampler). Bring noise-canceling headphones.

I stopped in today before meeting some friends for dinner. I really liked it. I got a dark roast coffee, a cannoli, and a blueberry lemon cupcake. Yes I sometimes get pre-dinner dessert. Stop judging me lol. It was all very good. The cupcake frosting was a tad too sweet but the cake was fresh. I like the decor and the setup, nice art on the wall. I like the feel of the place better than L'Artisan. The bathroom could use some sprucing up, kinda plain. The staff was very nice

The more I go here, the more I enjoy it. The staff seem to have gotten a LOT better over time. More welcoming, attentive, smiling, and willing to deliver good customer service. Perhaps I'm gong when the good shift is on?! I love that you can get a drink/glass of wine/adult coffee with some delicious sweets. The crowd tends to be a lot of solos, and it also tends to become the 'land of Mac Books' and a study spot for Brunonians, I usually have better experiences when I go to get work done vs having a catch up with friends (feel like I'm the only one talking at times!) I will probably go more in the summer when you can sit on the street and it will likely lend itself to being more social. Again, becoming more of a fan as time goes on.

The layout makes me a little uneasy. The place was full with silent laptop users and it was super quiet. The staff was friendly tho- laid back and nice. Maybe if you guys cut wifi on the weekends to reduce electronic clutter, I'll chill there.

One of the BEST places ever in Wayland Square for service!! Everytime I go in, the service is great. Everyone there is friendly and they greet you right away. Love the iced teas and the salted caramel gelato with chocolate chips are to die for. Outside seating is available and they have wifi also I believe. Good place to come with a friend to meet for some drinks.

I work hours at coffee shops, so I'm pretty picky about them. I've been waiting for something to replace this location. I used to go to the prior coffee shop all the time because it was the only place in Wayland with internet and food. Now we have another coffee shop down the street. Didn't stop me from trying Teas and Javas. The place is much larger now with much more seating. The atmosphere is casual coffee shop or lunch place to meet a friend. You can still obtain wifi and the food options are varied. The bathroom is a MAJOR step up from the last tenant, so I don't dread having too much coffee. They must have addressed the venting issue because you no longer leave with your clothes smelling like bagels and coffee. The windows (doors) open in warmer months and makes the place bright and airy. Looking forward to more coffee shop days here.

The reviews for Teas and Javas seem to be all over the place. I have a strong suspicion that a lot of the negative reviews were based on experiences not long after they opened. I went a couple times in August a couple in September and then again a few times recently. I have a feeling that they had some opening jitters (I didn't really see it but a lot of the long negative reviews are from earlier in the summer). I have been a few times now (it isn't too far a walk from my apartment) and the negative reviews seem weirdly uncharitable. A lot of people seem to make a big deal about some connection between them and the jewelry store next door. I don't get it. I haven't seen the "one star" slow service either, even at busy times like Saturday mornings. I have always been average to very pleased with the service Their prices are definitely comprable to pretty much everything in the area. I liked the quality of their food as well. I haven't tried any of their pastries but the sandwiches I have had there were great. Their gelato is also quite good and as far as I know there aren't any ice cream or gelato places in the area right now. The ambiance and decor are great. The wifi is nice. It is a little less "study friendly" than The Edge (the former coffee shop at the same location). But it is much better than L'Artisan which is particularly "study unfriendly" and Starbucks which is constantly packed. (I also understand that coffee shops hate it when people park themselves for hours only ordering a little bit while occupying space through their busy hours so I applaud Teas and Javas for being better than the local competition even if they don't meet the standard set by The Edge). Long story short. I like the place. I am intrigued by their boozy drinks (they do serve alcohol and hot drinks which I think will be awesome going into fall and winter). I plan on making it part of my weekend rotation.

Teas and Javas is a major downgrade from The Edge (Intelligentsia coffee and pumpkin muffin, oh how I miss you!!) which formally inhabited this highly caffeinated area in Wayland Square. If you enjoy watered down iced tea and melted gelato by all means rush over, but I'm giving this place a few months to work out its kinks before I head back.

I met a friend on New Year's Day around 3 and we JUST WANTED TO GET A COFFEE but everything was either closed or way overcrowded. Just as we were about to resort to Starbucks, we drove by this spot. It looked bright, cheery, and very empty so we went in. I did NOT realize they had alcohol until one of the friendly gentlemen behind the counter suggested it to me. Yes please! I had a coffee with Grand Marnier and Remy. It was very strong so, as a result, I cannot attest to the overall quality of their coffee but the drink as a whole was tasty. They have a HUGE list of alcoholic coffee beverages, which is fun. They also had a lot of beer and wine (lots of local types), a case full of delicious-looking pastries, and I saw a few people sitting with a glass of wine until a nice sandwich or salad was brought out to them. I didn't try any of the food, but I like the idea of a casual spot to do work or read while enjoying a glass of wine and a bite to eat. Decor was crisp. Service was good. I'm just not in Wayland Square that often so I probably won't be frequenting this spot.

Met a business associate here for a quick meeting. They've done a lovely job rehabbing the place, very slick. The new big windows that open to the street are great, and brighten the place up. I'd like to think the third time's the charm for this location, after losing Max and the Edge. However, I have my doubts. First, what is with the music? Honestly, it sounds like they bought a CD from CURVES, and edited out "change stations now"--terrible, terrible faux "uplifting" pop music. Blech. Second, the staff needs serious training. The earlier poster was not kidding that it took 8 minutes per customer to complete a transaction. There was one table of 6 or 8 people, and otherwise maybe 4 people in the place, yet the service was SLOW, SLOW, SLOW. One wonders how they'll possibly cope when the tables are full. I had iced green tea, which was fine. My associate had coffee, which was bland. I'm in no rush to go back.

The people here are really nice, and the pastry is good. I have to comment, however on the Chai Tea Latte. Terrible. I'm shocked that someone else on here calls it "the best on the hill." I have tried it several times (my husband loves their coffee) and each time it is the same - dishwater bad. No spice at all. It tastes like someone's home brew went wrong. I hope they change up their recipe, because I would really like to like this spot. It is such a nice, open setup, and as I said, the people are great. I will probably get a smoothie next time I go, rather than paying for dishwater.

I went here in the evening, and it was a great little place for a drink and a snack. They were very accommodating to each customer, and the place has a great European vibe to it because the entire front of the restaurant opens up onto the sidewalk. Great for a warm day or night.

Came in from San Francisco and was lucky to find this place. My client wasn't open and neither was this cute coffee shop but the owner was kind to let me in from the cold. I was given a delicious apple treat and a coffee while I waited for my client to open. If you want a place that not only has sweet treats but also sweet people then this little gem is a go to in my book!

Opening day for Teas and Javas - the new venture of the Cranston, RI bangle bracelet co, Alex and Ani. They are setting out to be a "one of a kind café restaurant concept...incorporating love for all things local and organic." Pluses: yummy sandwich list, open until 11pm, seating (size of tables, height, etc) perfect for meeting with friends or settling into a multi-hour long date with my MacBook, GORGEOUS open window in the front! Très européen!!!, and basic wine menu (step up from The Edge before it), spiked coffee cocktail menu. Minuses: overpriced ($13.14 for a sandwich and an iced coffee??), restaurant? (sandwiches, all served cold, does not in my book constitute a restaurant, trying to do too much (alcohol! desserts! cafe! restaurant!), understandably (and forgiveably!!!!) disorganized on opening day. There was terrible flow from ordering (center at the counter, then step to the right to pay, then back to the far left to wait for your coffee). Yemmi, who was, hands down, delightful, seemed to be greeting, serving gelato, taking orders, delivering orders... but with 6 people behind the counter at any given time I can't imagine that it's an efficient system. I was never asked if I wanted it for here or to go, so was surprised when a mammoth box arrived at the table. I didn't care that there was a miscommunication, but I was a little bit overwhelmed at the complete over packaging on the "doing my part to save the planet" front. But it is first day and I assume the kinks will be worked out in no time. Overall verdict? 3 stars. A-ok. I hardly felt the "one of a kind." The Edge was warm and cozy. This is not trying to be anything other than sharper and very high end. But the experience was good. Love the open window, and my Smokehouse Turkey and Brie Sandwich on cranberry bread was TASTY. If they're going local, I didn't have any idea how based on how they described or marketed their food, the decor, etc. I'm willing to give it one more shot, likely not for lunch prime time, but early evening to enjoy an iced coffee or wine by the window and watch the passerbyers of Wayland Square. I hope that they stay true to their mission and REALLY dive into the local by hosting some evening poetry readings, open mics, posting a community bulletin board, etc. But all in good time.

The music here is always blaring. And it's bad music. Impossible to do work. Also, the drinks are very overpriced. Five bucks for a latte. Not OK. There are tons of better cafes in East Prov - I don't recommend this one.

I've had several visits to teas and javas now. Sometimes I drop in quick for a spiced chai, which is yummy! Or on a nice day, I try to score a seat outside with my kindle and an iced beverage. Met some friends for lunch here as well and my go to sandwich is the smokehouse turkey on cranberry bread and cran-mayo! The best! Staff is always friendly!

I come here almost every day. It is a great place to work. They have lots of desks with available power outlets. The staff are friendly and courteous. The prices are a little high, but I can't complain since I spend hours there on my laptop.

Well, other ppl have remarked amply about the slow service and I'll add my agreement. It might seem easy enough to dash in and grab a pastry to go, but be prepared for a bit of a wait simply to be rung up. The servers are very nice, but not the most knowledgeable or efficient. Now, on to more important matters, the desserts! I haven't tried the sandwiches, I have my priorities, after all. The pastries are all very pretty and beautifully displayed, but a bit stale. I've been back a couple of times, only to be continually disappointed, so I finally decided to write a review just to remind myself not to go back. Here is what I've tried: Chocolate chip cookie: neither crispy nor chewy, it was fluffy and cake-like with a peculiar, powdery flavor. (This was the item that drove me to finally write a review.) Perhaps it was trying to be a muffin top rather than a cookie? Fruit Tart: These aren't bad, the crust is pleasant, encrusted with almond bits, but I'm torn between describing it as having a nice crumbly texture to it being a touch doughy. The fruit on top is perhaps a bit over-glazed and mushy, giving a sense that the fruit isn't entirely fresh... But there's a delightful layer of jam, cake, and custard that the fruit rests on, which makes for a pleasant combo. Honestly, once I got over the sliminess, the flavor altogether was nice. I'd be tempted to get this again, if perhaps the fruit looked perkier and fresher, but I have yet to see that... "Gelato" - I know, it's been a hot summer, and we're all rather desperate for cool treats on Wayland Square, especially now that Mad Ernie's is no more. I want to believe that this would suffice, but not at this price!

Is it inappropriate to miss The Edge whilst reviewing Teas and Javas? Oops. The food is okay, and the coffee is a little less than okay. I've had a few lunches here and more than a few cups of coffee while getting some work done. I wish I could rave about any part of the food and drink experience, but I can't. That being said, I would like to check this place out as a pre-dinner cocktail spot. The decor (and we all know I love me some interior design) is lovely, modern, uncluttered, and sleek. It's exactly what you'd expect from the proprietors of Alex and Ani. I'm a particular fan of the laptop bar in the counter--it's a nice workspace. All in all, it's in the words of Yelp, "A-OK." I'm pleased to have a coffee shop back in Wayland Square.

So this place was kind of a disappointment. There seems to be a consistent lack of good coffee houses in Wayland, so when I saw Teas and Javas I was sorted of excited! Pros: -Relatively nice staff -Blazing fast internet when compared to L'artisan next door (48 mb/s download speed to be exact) -Clean bathrooms -Plenty of outlets to work at Cons: -For a place that is supposed to serve tea, their iced teas are watered down and overpriced. L'artisan does a better job at the hot teas as well -It takes forever to get something ordered and ringed up. Very slow service. -LOUD, and I mean LOUD music for a cafe...so much so that I couldn't concentrate with my ear phones on and had to leave -Their coffees as well are watered down...nothing to be compared Coffee Exchange -Fiancee had a cupcake and said it was dense and bland, nothing to be compared with Duck and Bunny -Overpriced gelato!

Adorable place with a great atmosphere. The neighborhood needed a cafe just like this. The concept is wonderful. That said, there are some quality issues here. The first time we went, the gelato was great, but the mint chocolate cupcake looked far better than it tasted. It was stale and dry, and expensive for the size (tiny) and freshness. I went a second time, and the line moved incredibly slowly, even though there was a lot of staff behind the counter. I left rather than wait longer. Last night, we went again, probably for the last time in a while. They were out of the gelato flavors we wanted (chocolate and salted caramel - how can you be out of chocolate??), so we ordered one chocolate chip gelato. They had problems with their ice cream freezer, so the gelato was very melted when we received it. It quickly became ice cream soup, which delighted my 2 year old but created a huge mess. Oh, and there were barely any chips in the gelato. On the plus side, the staff is pleasant, and the music and atmosphere are great. On the negative, the quality leaves much to be desired. Methinks that Alex + Ani should stick to what they do best - jewelry - and stay away from the restaurant business unless they find someone to run this who knows what they are doing.

I went in there expecting not to like it. Knowing it's owned by Alex and Ani and having had bad experiences shopping at A & A before, I went in with low expectations. But I was happily surprised. The staff was friendly and offered information about all the pastries and gelatos. All locally sourced from RI vendors. Love that! I ordered a simple flavored coffee and it was brewed to perfection. I will be back to sit and enjoy a seat in the cafe area. It has an open air feel with doors that open and umbrella tables outside.

Why is the service so poor here? Every time I go in and order just a couple of basic items, like coffee and a muffin, it takes too long for them to either acknowledge I am there or to serve it up and there are not many people in line. Something is wrong with this, I have been several times to know. I know it can be better, but this is a Management issue. I do like the location. I am fine with the bagels, croissants, and cookies. Tried an egg sandwich on a bagel, it was hard boiled eggs with Swiss cheese, it was just okay. I do not have too much of a problem with the music, if there is a string of songs I do not like then in go the ear pods and I will listen to what I have on my portable device. The wifi is usually good and fast. 1/19/14 Ok, everything is much approved upon.

Basic higher priced Wayland Square shop with not as much character as I'd like. The cupcakes are from Warwick, bagels are from Newport and the food is good, but I think I just like something different. It's a really nice place, they have gelato and wine. Just not my particular "cup of tea".

The space is great, well lit, good for work, chatting, meeting people for a drink; this is what brings me back. The food is just OK. The salad that comes with sandwiches is not properly dressed or seasoned. A coffee lesson is needed as a cappuccino should not be served in a tall glass with a ton of milk, that is a latte, not a cappuccino. I would stick to soups, bagels, sweets. Haven't had a cupcake but people always rave about them! The majority of the staff is great; welcoming, helpful, nice! The guy manager is always friendly and helpful, the woman manager always looks mad and then seems fake nice when she helps you. This place has a some amazing potential... lots of room to step up basic things like seasoning your lettuce, being consistent in your meals. every time i get a bagel it's different, open faced, closed with cream cheese on one side, closed with cream cheese on both sides. This is not meant to be negative but constructive. I still go back because it's decent and has a nice atmosphere.

Good selcetion of organic and fari trade tea and coffee. I have not tried the food...though it did not look very good to me. I am very picky when it comes to food. Quality and local is the best. Teas and Javas does not appear to have local food. This place is down grade from The Edge which once was in its place).

I really wanted to like this place, but if you're a coffee house then I expect a really good coffee. Instead my latte was pretty bland - no lovely coffee aromas and bold flavors. The bagel was pretty tasty but nothing very special. My spouse liked the cherry muffin, but I thought the consistency was strange and doughy. They also did not offer any breakfast items other than pastries. Strange. Hopefully this is just new business issues and they will improve things soon. Some pluses are the al fresco dining ambiance and the alcoholic coffee drink options (which I have not tried). But with a million other coffee options in Wayland Square I will definitely be going elsewhere.

Love in a cup? What exactly is that? The website doesn't say anything about the coffee's origin or roasting process. My experience: love in a cup tasted almost like a cup of coffee. Seriously, if you squint, imagine a great coffee from Blue State AND wiggle your toes AND don't mind the wait, this is the coffee place for you!

I had been curious about who would be moving in to fill The Edge's shoes as the next of many spots to get coffee in Wayland Square when I first saw the signs going up a week or two ago. So today, when I saw they were finally open (as I was on my way to Starbucks), I dropped in. I must say that I was wholly underwhelmed, and even slightly creeped out. Basically, Alex and Ani is using the same model for their coffee shop as for their jewelry, and it says so right in the mission statement posted next to the cash register. They focus on how they serve "love in a cup" (so all about the emotional connection to and significance of the product) and how their atmosphere is upscale and refined (...the atmosphere is, but the product is decidedly just okay verging on a ripoff). The prices are high - but no so high that people won't cave and pay them because they feel like they're also buying into a certain lifestyle. Yes, I'll admit I *did* want to sit out in Wayland Square on a beautiful summer day in an open air coffee spot and soak in the ambiance. But the beverage prices are generally 50c-$1.50 more per item than I'd normally expect to pay - and on a $2-4 coffee or tea, that's significant. And I would've happily paid that premium if the experience and/or product were worth it. Unfortunately, for me, it wasn't. The atmosphere is clean and crisp to the point of being sterile and corporate. There were *seven* people working at one time (6 behind the counter in uniform tshirts, plus one more in a collared shirt), to serve about 10 customers who came and went during the short time I was there, and it took longer than it does for coffee spots with just 1-3 staff members working at a time. The staff was friendly, but in a really fake and bizarre, soulless sort of way. It was like they were going out of their way to *seem* friendly, but completely getting it wrong. The most memorable example of this is when one of the staff members noticed I had been standing around waiting for my bagel and iced tea (simple, right?) for an excessively long time (10 minutes?). She asked, with a huge smile and pseudo-excited lilt to her voice, if I was on my way to work. I was so obviously not on my way to work that it was ridiculous, wearing my more-than-a-decade-old college t-shirt that I had cut up a bit, faded jeans with holes in them, and the world's most casual/sporty sandals. I am not the only one who found the whole experience underwhelming and disappointing - as I was already starting to compose this review in my mind, the two women sitting next to me had asked to speak to the manager about the quality of their lattes. I overheard them complain that they were not only very small (8.5oz) for the big price tag ($3.75?), but apparently they were also made poorly (which the manager conceded was true). I myself had a bagel and an iced tea. The bagel and tea were fine. If it had been this okay but overpriced tea and bagel, with good service in a non-sterile/creepy/slow-service environment, I would have been a satisfied customer. Or perhaps if it were a stellar tea and bagel in a creepy environment. But the factors just weren't properly aligned to make it an overall good experience. Sorry, but at least Starbucks, even being the corporate giants they are, doesn't creep me out or make me wait forever for my overpriced beverage while I watch 7 people getting in each other's way to fill a very small number of orders. And Starbucks has free wi-fi. And the atmosphere at the Wayland Square Starbucks is not only as good, it's better - better music, better lighting, more greenery around in the outdoor area, comfier seating.... I never ever *ever* wanted to leave a review of a locally-owned coffee shop saying that it couldn't hold a candle to Starbucks :( Most at *least* have charm, (honestly) friendly staff, or awesome offerings in their favor.... (To be fair, I am not impressed by the gelato (just not big on it) or alcoholic coffees (don't drink booze) like others. If I cared about those things, perhaps I would be more impressed with the place overall. But honestly, probably not, because the flaws aren't with the food and drink, but rather the general vibe and service...) Here's hoping as Tea and Javas continues to grow, they figure some stuff out and improve things. I bet it could happen. I'd definitely like to support a Rhode Island based company over Starbucks, so I hope they do. I'll check back in a month or three to see if they've improved.

So cute! And my hazelnut and tiramisu gelatos were delish. I was a little bit disappointed that ALL the tasty sounding cupcakes were gone by 8 pm on a Thursday night, but I'm sure they are just learning how much to bake each day. I love the relaxed atmosphere of Wayland Square. Even though there are only a few outside tables, the front wall basically rolls back so that the entire place feels like it's outside. I will definitely drop by if I am in the area again!!

I needed to get out of the house to work and decided to try somewhere new, so I decided to go across the city to try out Teas & Javas. Overall experience was a big bummer, everything from the environment to the coffee & food. From the start I was questioning the quality of the place, as the staff was somewhat friendly, but left much character to be desired - basically came off a little cold and for no particular reason, as I simply ordered and paid. Just a very corporate feel to the staff (and environment)... which doesn't seem like it outside. After I ordered, I asked if there was an internet password and was pleasantly surprised when the cashier said that it was an open network. Unfortunately, she stated that there was a designated area for computers (suggesting they were a nuisance) at the "computer bar" - which was entirely occupied by the owner/managers' computers and papers spread across it. So I found a seat at a table near the computer bar, figuring it would suffice. And I mean, I get it, I do hate when there are the few tables occupied by people working on their computer for a few hours. I just don't like to be shrugged at, when I'm a paying customer, too, and especially when your shop is close to empty. Unfortunately, when I sat down, the construction work started. If I had been there to meet someone, I quite literally wouldn't have been able to hear them, leave it to say, I could hardly hear myself think! I saw other people who were visibly put off by the noise, including someone who was waiting to meet with the owner or manager. It was so loud, I actually questioned why they were even open. I ended up trying to work through it, but it got to a point where I couldn't take it anymore. I was there less than 15 minutes, when I had planned to be there for 1-2 hours. But now, onto the coffee and food... My latte was (quite frankly) awful and overpriced. I figured a place that has Java in its name and "serves up a cup of love" would at least know how to pull a decent shot of espresso. I'll admit I'm a coffee snob, but I'll pay for a mediocre latte on occasion and be satisfied. The shot they pulled was boiling, burnt, and very bitter tasting. I could taste this all through the bubbly foamy milk - not a nice fine frothed milk. The milk to coffee ratio of my latte was also incorrect, as it was very dark, not 1:1 as it should be. Furthermore, the size of the latte was TINY - probably about 6oz. It seemed like they were focused more on getting cool glass mugs than how much product you could fit inside of it. The apricot scone I got was pretty tasty but doughy - not nice and crumbly like a scone should be. It was also more like biscuit, as you could taste the salt. Just not great and not something I would get again. It looked delicious in the display case, but it just wasn't good - seemed like something you'd get from Dunkin Donuts, honestly. I know they try and source their products from local businesses, which is great, but they'd be much more successful if they used Seven Stars or Olga's for their main pastry suppliers. Anyway, I'm really sorry to have to write a review like this. In fact, I don't normally write many reviews, only when compelled by the greatness or lack thereof. It's just that my experience was pretty darn awful all around. I hope they do well and they just have a few kinks to work out - mainly in training their staff in customer service and how to pull a proper shot.

I had given Teas and Javas a pass for a long time because the scene seemed a bit too trendy for me, but I gave in the other night when a friend and I wanted a glass of wine before our dinner reservation. Turns out I was only hurting myself by staying out of this place - it's a very cute cafe with a reasonably-priced menu and lots of good-looking options! On a rainy Saturday evening it was a great spot to stop in for a drink. We each enjoyed a glass of wine for under $10 and there was plenty of variety to choose from. There was even live music, which was an unexpected bonus! There was lots of seating inside, including a large communal table that I can see being a great spot to stop in with your work during the week to enjoy some coffee and a sandwich. I'm planning to test this out myself soon!

A friend recommended that I stop by Teas and Javas and honestly, after all the hype I had been hearing about it, I was let down. The coffee was weak, even with the double shot of espresso I asked for, and I'm not trying to get all ballsy on ya when I say that I take my coffee black, no milk, no sugar, none of that extra junk, just java. I don't know where they got the coffee from, but it was like drinking a Bud Light Platinum. You know what I mean. It kind of tasted like water with a hint of coffee taste and resulted in no effect other than filling up my bladder a little extra. I decided to go for a piece of the blueberry cheesecake because I'm a shameless cheesecake slut and I leave my dignity at the door whenever a delicious looking dessert and I make eye contact. If you were there you probably heard the sound of my heart breaking as my tastebuds sadly questioned, "Gurrrrrl?? What???" Because I put it in my mouth, but it didn't taste much like anything at all. It was strangely bland. It was cheesecake for old sour pusses in nursing homes and it was not at all worth the $5 I spent for such a tiny morsel. The staff was a weird mix. Some people seemed friendly and knowledgable while others seemed stressed out and inexperienced. One staff member took my order with a hilarious, "Welcome to Teas and Javas, how can I make a difference in your day?", definitely made me smile, and a second staff member rang me up. The second staff member helping me didn't know the price of my coffee or the cheesecake. She had to call someone else over to help her, it took about three minutes for the two of them to look it up in the system. I believe I came during the second week the place had been running so maybe folks were still figuring things out, but it was still a little strange. Pretty nice interior, it's got a very modern style, and the outdoor seating is great. After this first experience I decided to stop by again last week hoping my first experience was just a fluke. It wasn't. The coffee is super weak, super unpleasant. It just does not do it for me. I'll stick to getting my fix from either Coffee Exchange or Seven Stars from now on.

I was excited to try Tea & Javas. We were in desperate need of coffee and our tummy were still full from dinner so none of the pastry was even remotely tempting...and trust me I am ALWAYS tempted. But we stuck to hot coffee. Looking around I fell in love with how cute it was in there and how it has so much potential. But their menu is huge and extensive...how can all of their food be fresh? It's impossible. What did intrigue me though was their alcoholic beverages what were mixed with gelato. Now that is something exciting...I would go back and try that. However, as for the coffee, that's a big fat NO. It was weak, at best and room temperature. Too bad we took it to go because I would have taken it back.

I don't know, maybe it's just me, but when i go to a coffee shop either by myself or for a one on one meeting I actually want to hear the other person talk or relax. The blaring music and annoying commercial spin was enough for me to get up and ask for a to-go cup and almost run out of there. Annoying! It is the only word. Nothing would make me linger here - maybe sitting on the sidewalk in the summer would be better - then again, why do I want to sit 5 feet from cars? - but I doubt it. Back to the drawing board, people! I won't be back.

I agree with some of the other reviewers. The service is incompetent and ridiculously slow, even if you're just ordering a simple cookie (which aren't very good either--they have such poor ingredients that they just fall apart when you pick them up). The location (in the center of Wayland Square) is, of course, a huge plus, but the place exudes a Euro-trash feel, and they act like they're serving you gold when they're really just serving junk. I wish this place was better; I would go there much more often.

Teas and Javas has excellent food and drinks but the music is much too loud and they have made it much more a social space than a work space, which may work for some but does not really suit my needs or preferences in a coffee shop.

The coffee is okay, nothing spectacular, but not terrible. I do like their teas and baked goods, though. This place is great to study at nights. It's open late, has a variety of drinks and food, and a pretty cool atmosphere. I can see the mild art deco decor being quite abrasive to some, but I like it. However, I honestly went here mostly for the background music while studying. I know this isn't even on the radar for most people when considering a coffee shop, but the Motown, soul, and funk music they played during the summer kept me coming back. Friendly staff as well. Good location in Wayland Square.

Was there on a beautiful fall day for lunch. A Thursday around 1:00. Ordered an iced tea and a sandwich, totaled around $11, a little pricey but the sandwich came with a nice size salad. Food was not too bad, but the service left a lot too be desired. There seemed to be plenty of help, however it took over 10 minutes for my sandwich to come out. I was not the only one waiting for my food. The place wasn't that crowded. Someone who came in after me was served much more quickly, was a friend of the cook, I guess he was the cook, since he came out from the kitchen with his gloves on. He was also the one who came out of the kitchen to apologize to another table for a problem with their meal. Since it was a nice day, I was hoping to grab a sidewalk table, yet they were all taking. Not a big problem, except that it seemed two young women who seemed to be some sort of managers, they were directing the staff, had set up camp at one of these prime tables. Not sure I want to go back, if this is how they treat customers.

The atmosphere is great, the pastries has always been good and fresh (cupcakes, danish, cinnamon roll, cookies, muffins) the coffee is strong and the hot pots of tea are great, and so if the FULL LIQUOR LICENSE! The only downside is that there seems to be some confusion between giving your order to Person A, checking out with Person B, and receiving your food from Person C. This seems to be an internal problem but also one with the customers, some times the staff gets it but the customers refuse to move the line along waiting for their original Person A. My only other complaint is that there are no salads or soups just sandwiches which are very tasty.

I went there because I was intrigued to hear that there was another coffee shop on the east side that dared to be open til 11pm. I like it a lot and was pleasantly surprised to see that they offered alcohol as well. It has a European feel to it as the complete front of the shop is open during the warm days of summer.

FAKE is the best way to describe the place, the "concept" and the service. It's creepy, sterile, and worse than corporate Starbucks. The prices are high, the service is long, and I'm never going back. Is Alex and Ani a cult of some sort? This place is NOT the real world!

I ordered an egg and cheese sandwich on an everything bagel - it wasn't on the menu (? I later saw a small note on their register saying they were currently updating their menu) so it was a good thing I asked if they had anything like that. I didn't ask the specifics because normally if you don't specify anything, an egg sandwich is made with scrambled eggs. To my extreme disappointment, what they brought me was a toasted bagel with a SLICED HARD-BOILED EGG on top. I thought, hey now, eggs are eggs, I'll give it a try. But it was disgusting. I struggled to salvage it but in the end I just gave up and went across the street to L'Artisan, where I had a FABULOUS egg sandwich that convinced me I have no reason to bother giving Teas and Javas a second chance, even if their other items are passable. Sorry, but you just don't compromise on that kind of thing simply because you can't be bothered to scramble some eggs. I come out for breakfast to eat something better than - or at least as edible as - something I can make myself. You didn't come close.
