I love this place. Seriously. I live out of state, and I make it a point to stop in every time I visit RI. Their sea selection is superb, but my all-time favorite is their Pear and Green tea. What I love most about this place is that they can add boba/tapioca/bubbles to any of their teas AND ice it. Bubble tea has become a big thing, but most legitimate places go for the "milk tea" option. I'm not a big fan of the creaminess (and calories) of milk teas, so I love the rare tea places that can throw in some boba in their fresh, loose leaf teas. The place is spacious and offers free wi-fi. Though the high top seats are a bit uncomfortable, I do enjoy sitting in them while sipping my bubble tea and people watching on Thayer Street.

My second favourite cafe on Thayer to work in (with Blue State coming first), Tealuxe has every kind of tea you've ever heard of. Iced tea, hot tea, hot chocolate with tea bags...you tell them how you want your tea of choice, and they will bring it to you. My personal favourite is an iced green tea matcha--definitely ask for one if you're looking for something new to try. Like the other free wifi hotspots in the area, Tealuxe is deluged by scores of students from Brown and RISD. If you're alright with this, come forth and people-watch through the large window while sipping on your delicious brew!

My first experience with Tealuxe was Harvard Square in the late nineties. I've always been a fan and am glad they started serving hot and cold tea to go a few years ago. Their service is fast, they have good quality loose leaf tea (although adagio is cheaper and better) and the place is relatively large. As big as the place is, there's never enough seating because they have two large tables that fit six people and then a bunch of high counter seating around the perimeter of the cafe. It might have made more sense to do 6 smaller tables so two people don't take up a whole table (it's not like most people in New England are going to share tables). You can always move tables together, but it's hard to break them apart. At least, it is for me.

I ended up with food poisoning yesterday in the afternoon, the only thing I had since breakfast was Tealuxe. I was with a party of four people and I was the only one to order something from here and the only one who was sick. I'm betting I got sick from Tealuxe, pretty sure the milk was bad. The only reason I gave it two stars is because I got a couple of infusers from here that I had never seen before. I wanted to like you... so... thanks... I guess.

Simple and straight to the point...Tealuxe is my go to spot in Providence when it comes to tea. They have a great selection that not only can you enjoy while you are there but also you can get the leaves to go and prepare the tea at home. Out of all the teas they have I am absolutely obsessed with their Coconut Oolong tea. Being both a lover of coconut and tea when I first saw this I automatically knew this would be a match made in heaven. Throw in a little skim milk and some honey and this drink brings me to a place of peace and happiness. The servers here have always been friendly and helpful when it comes to any questions about their various teas. The inside is very inviting and is a great place to meet up with people and have a conversation. If you are on the Eastside, definitely head over and check this place out.

As a tea lover, I appreciate this place. They have a nice selection of teas available. Plus various options in which you can have it. You can even add boba to your iced teas! I prefer not to, but I like that they offer that. Not a lot of tea places do. The atmosphere of Tealuxe is as follows: Teavana + Starbucks = Tealuxe Not exactly "homey." Upside: there are plenty of spaces to unwind and study with a cup of tea. Which is nice. Although I love my tea, I don't typically go out of my way to stop by here. What knocks this review down a star for me is their lack of non-tea items on their menu. I like to have a little pastry to accompany my hot tea. Last time I checked, they didn't have anything of that sort.

My most recent experience went as follows... Guy behind counter: ... Me: Well hello Guy: do you know what you want? Me: do you have chamomile tea? Guy: Yep... Me: Can i have some? Guy: Yep Me: can i have a small? Guy: yep Me: can i have it to go? Guy: yep Me: (waiting at this point for a total) Guy: (still standing there not moving) Me: are you ok? Guy: yes? (rolls eyes) So anyways. The quality tea is not worth the time. If I wanted to be mistreated I would go back to high school.

A calm, relaxing environment to enjoy a nice cup o' tea. I love that they have 3-4 select teas of the day that change as it helps me pick and try new delicious medlies. In the summer, make sure to try an ice tea with bubbles...little (not so little) balls of who knows what (tapioca maybe?!?) and they add a slight sweetness and fun to drinking your iced bevie... It's always a good day if I'm flapping around Thayer Street and swing into Tealuxe!

Was walking around with my boyfriend and his mom when we decided to stop in for some tea spur of the moment. The two people behind the counter were pretty rude and seemed like they were talking about is while we were deciding what to order since we've never been there before. My boyfriend's mom tends to ask a lot of questions and the woman behind the counter was getting annoyed and giving her snooty answers instead of nicely responding. Come to find out, she was asking a simple question to see how exactly the infuse tea in hot chocolate (and charge $5 for a small). Anyways. I got something iced and it took far too long to make. Four other drinks came out before mine. Nevertheless, it took quite some time for them to refill the whole milk canister, which only got filled because my boyfriend's mom brought it up to the counter about 10 minutes after telling the woman it was empty. Also, how come some drinks come with free refills and others don't? Makes absolutely no sense. Also, while the place is cute, it's small and doesn't have many tables for people to sit. Kind of cramped with tables close together. Not sure if and when I'll be going back.

I am a tea lover and I love this place. I don't get over to Thayer as much as I used to, but this has always been one of my favorite places. Today I stopped over and got a cup of one of their daily brews, a pear green tea. It was amazingly tasty, and I debated driving across the city again to get some more. I always drink my tea black anyways, but this one definitely did not need sugar or anything in it. They also offer some cute pastries to go with your tea, which are quite good. Personally I love their scones. The atmosphere in here is cozy and there's free wifi. I've come here with study groups, friends, and dates and always had a good experience. Today was no exception. Parking to come here can be a pain on the weekends, but if you want morning tea during the week you'll have no issue. Now I need to come up with excuses to drive all the way here before work in the morning...

Tealuxe really hit the spot on a stormy winter day. It was the perfect place to cozy up with a cup of tea and relax with someone special. Seats might be a little tough to find at times but don't worry, seats seem to free up quickly. They have an enormous selection of tea, so as any tea lover can imagine, it was difficult to decide! One of... everything?! please?! Now that I've tried Tealuxe, I'm sure it will be the first on my list when I'm ready to spend some time on Thayer!

It appeared there was only one person working when we were there, which makes her efficiency all the more admirable. Great selection of tea (white, green, black, etc.) with a few other options for those who are less fanatical (hot chocolate with tea infusion, chaider -- chai and hot cider). Good atmosphere -- casual, non-pretentious. Medium noise level. Had a nice time drooling over all the tea accessories that I am hoping someone buys me for Festivus.

Somehow after a year and half of living on the East Side, I'd never been to TeaLuxe. As a big coffee drinker, tea usually isn't my thing, so I never ventured inside to see what they had to offer. But it turns out that there is actually an abundance of delicious tea drinks at TeaLuxe (besides plain 'ole tea)! It really has something for everybody. Today it was frightful and slushy outside, and as I stumbled into Tealuxe to meet a friend, I anticipated not knowing what to order due to my tea ignorance. But several specials on the chalk board jumped out at me, among them the tea-infused hot chocolate. Deciding between peppermint, vanilla, and cherry, I ultimately went with cherry and it was absolutely delicious. My cup was topped with whipped cream, and came with a surprise pair of cherries at the bottom. It was seriously good quality chocolate (my indulgent choice of whole milk probably helped as well). Overall, a very innovative drink- I'd never heard of tea-infused hot chocolate before, and now I can't wait to try the other flavors while it's still cold out. The space is also really warm and lovely. I suspect that it gets pretty crowded with students studying, but there were a couple seats open today and it wasn't too hectic. It's actually a bit larger than it looks from the street, and there are multiple seating options- stools that line the window, small tables, cushy chairs. Service was good; the servers behind the counter were really friendly and efficient. Whomever made my drink did a great job. Yum. I'm impressed!

Huge, sunny, high quality, quiet tea cafe with a crazy selection of teas from everywhere. A great place to sit, relax, people watch, or to have a nice conversation with a friend.

Tealuxe is one of my favorite spots on Thayer Street and ideal for meeting a friend. The atmosphere is warm and I love the bar-style seating along the windows. I don't consider myself to be a connoisseur of tea. They have a really long menu of teas which can be overwhelming to the non-expert like myself. I prefer to get what has already been pre-brewed. Sometimes when I take friends here, they will go against my recommendation to get a pre-brewed tea and order something from the menu. This is fine, except if you're not careful, the tea bag they give you will start to dribble down the side of your cup creating a puddle on the table. This is a great "I told you so" moment! But overall, I love this place and return several times a month.

While I'm not a huge tea drinker, it's really awesome to see a spot strictly dedicated to tea instead of coffee. Where we are used to seeing a Dunkin Donuts, Starbucks or independently owned coffee shop on just about every corner on every street in every city; it's rare to find a tea shop. Tealuxe is unique in that they offer up what seems to be a hundred different flavors. You can order a cup of tea, or tea to go or even a teapot of tea while you sit back and relax in their welcoming atmosphere. I've always found plenty of seating, whether it be at a table or a chair by the window; although it is a small'ish space and can get a bit cramped if there are several people in line waiting to place their order.

Back in the day when I lived in Providence I was much more into coffee than tea and practically lived at the Wayland Sq. Starbucks. I had been here once or twice probably to grab something to go and browse the stores on Thayer St. but didn't have the taste for tea that I do now, many years later later. Today I stopped in with a group of friends when I was in town and found a new appreciation for Tealuxe that I didn't have before. The space inside is bright and welcoming, the display of tea products in the middle is colorful and eye-catching, but the people at the registers don't seem like the most friendly at first. When you make conversation with them and find common ground they warm up a bit (lean cuisine convenience lunches was our common ground convo today). The tea list is huge here, as can be expected, and organized well on the menu having separate sections for Black Tea, Flavored Black, Green, Flavored Green, Herbal, Decaf, Rooibos, Oolong, Mate and White. The Masala Chai caught my eye initially, as it has been hard to find authentic blends of masala chai since my relationship with a former Indian flame fizzled. However, I was not really in a chai mood so I went with the next thing that caught my eye, the Lady Londonderry. On the menu it claimed to be a bold black tea with the flavor of strawberry and lemons - a favorite among the ladies of the British Isles. Supposedly, it was Princess Diana's favorite. I was sold. It turned out to be excellent and very unique from any other tea I have tasted. The strawberry and lemon flavors came through but were not overpowing. My friends got the Raspberry Earl Grey, Pumpkin Spice Chai, and Gingerbread. There is seating in here but not a whole lot. We took one of the few open tables when we arrived and many behind us took their teas to go. The seating along the window was all taken by studious people from the nearby universities. Great place to people watch. Only complaint is the bathroom was far from the cleanest/nicest bathroom I have been in as of late.

I don't care what any tea snob says about the commercializations of this company into a chain. I have always had a fond spot in my heart for tealux. Idk... Something about running into the warmth of tealux from the wet snow and wind on Thayer St. and choosing a type of tea perfectly suited to your mood still makes me nostalgiac. Yes, I've been to other tealuxes around the country. In my opinion, this one outranks them all.

For goodness sakes, is the attitude really necessary? I was pre-caffeine and therefore tripping through my order a bit. However, I DID say the milk and size I wanted at the beginning, which the condescending server made me repeat twice because she wasn't listening the first time and got caught up in my lack of interest in the menu. Downgrade. Free wifi is still holding me at 3 stars.

This is such a cool spot! I was curious about it for a long time, and finally got the chance to stop in with my boyfriend for a little bit. They have a very extensive tea menu (no coffee). We ordered the day's special which was the black milk tea. LOVED IT! The baristas were so nice too. Very cool decor... Black color scheme with light colored marble tables. Lots of students meeting up there. Going back soon.

I don't even like tea normally and never drink it, but this place was just awesome. I'm not ignorant ABOUT tea or anything, but I was still actually surprised at the huge selection and wide variety of tea types/flavors/drinks they listed on their menu. There were types of tea that had specific brewing procedures and took longer because of the method they needed to brew that type of tea... I was just impressed that such a nondescript place had such a variety of (to me, anyway) exotic choices. I ended up picking a type of coconut tea and the guy behind the counter proved to be not only friendly, but knowledgeable, and knew enough to provide more in-depth descriptions of flavor profiles and was familiar with all of the details regarding how it needed to be brewed and why. I had to let it steep for a certain amount of time and wait to drink it, and honestly, I didn't expect much because I've never been blown away by tea or tea-like drinks. It was so delicious in a way I didn't expect....I had originally gone there to have a place for a relatively serious conversation, but I kept interrupting our conversation with how amazed I was that I liked the tea as much as I did. I remember finishing it and almost getting another cup because it was so delicious. I never drink hot beverages quickly and will get a coffee that will take me 30 minutes to finish, but I remember this being so GOOD...I burned my mouth, didn't care, kept going... haha. I don't know if it had anything with how they brewed it or the types of tea they offer...but I can definitely say it was the most flavorful tea I've ever had in my life. I don't remember the exact name of the blend I ordered, but it was such a pure and clean coconut flavor...I'd recommend it! Inside, they've got the bar kind of in the center and tables/bar along with windows with stools so even though it's not huge, the way the seating is organized allows for you to have some privacy even though everyone's in the same room.

I love that there are so many different types of tea to try, but the friendliness of the staff leaves a lot to be desired. They are very aloof and not very helpful - and get very frustrated when I have been with a group of friends and we are slow to order (even when there isn't anybody behind us). I keep coming back for the green tea with coconut, it's awesome. Also try the chaider (chai-infused cider) when it's available.

  • Steph B.

The rude staff members (especially the guy) stand outside and smoke as college students order sugar sludge "tea" drinks by the barrel full. So if "tea house" makes you think "zen," think again. You are better off at Blue State Cafe ordering a bagged tea and not pretending to be doing otherwise.

The tealuxe is a favorite of mine on thayer street. Whenever I go to the library, I always treat myself with something from tealuxe. They have a wide selection of teas. I usually get their matcha green tea latte (iced or hot), black milk tea (hot or cold), or their various selection of milk teas (I've had mango and vanilla jasmine in the past). It is a good place to study as it tends to be quieter than other places on Thayer. The only con that this place is pretty pricey for tea. Service is good, but nothing extraordinary.

    (4)
  • Krystal S.

I've only been once but I'm sure they've got good stuff. My only complaint was that they were pretty snobby. Not everyone is a tea expert or familiar with your menu or store so patience with new customers is essential. It really is impacting my interest to go back.

    (3)
  • Regina F.

Though the pastry assortment is mediocre, it is respectable that Tealuxe offers warm crumpets to be consumed with any one of the bajillion varieties of tea. It's also fantastique that you can have your tea hot, iced, with bubbles, with milk, with cream, with sugar, with ice etc... For a quick pick-me-up suitable for coffee addicts and tea fanatics, try the Golden Monkey. For a calming, yet invigorating surprise, the camomile mint will perk up any downtrodden, overworked soul.

  • Grace M.

I love Tealuxe and their entire menu, but the ambience of this one is really uncomfortable. I would give the menu at 5, but I have to give this one a 4 because it isn't the most welcoming, but I still go all the time .

  • Hilary H.

I love Tealuxe for one reason alone: it's for tea drinkers! That's me. They have every kind of tea you would ever want, and all the correct accoutrements for that tea of your dreams. You can sit whilst your cuppa steeps, watch the hustle bustle of College Hill and remember to way back in the day when you were one of the hustle-bustlers, and revel even more in your perfectly pleasant pot of tea. The space is clean, the service efficient and the tea is lovely. Know what else I adore? I can leave without wreaking of coffee. How refreshing!

    (4)
  • Regina D.

I ordered a coffee, which I swear they have because the back of the menu has a long list of them and I pointed to the one I wanted... but then a tea was shoved in front of me as the staff members rolled their eyes and head away from me... I liked the decor, but the service and product makes me want to put a "closed" sign in the front just to save others from experiencing this place.

Only stopped in here to pick up tea and walk around Harvard Sq. so I can't comment on the seating and atmosphere although it has a very cool vibe. However, the wife and I did happen to have ran out of Twinings loose Earl Grey tea so I decided to pick up 25g ($3.99) here to try it. Wow! I don't think I ever really tasted Earl Grey until now! Hands down the best so far. Will definitely be back to pick up more.

Mmmm, tea!! My boyfriend order the pumpkin spiced chai - it was so yummy! I ordered a White Pear tea. Not much to review here - teas are yummy. Place is roomy. Usually able to find a place to sit.

Wow what a bitter pill! Have to nominate the man working there for "worst person in customer service award!" just rude, no greeting, or hi may I help you, ZERO smile, just a grunt, if you dont go to teluxe and have a question about tea, not the person to ask. You will get snarled at. Tea drinking should be a calming peaceful zen like experience.. from the minute you walk in the door to the closing when he yells out to the room of guests, "IT IS NOW 10 OCLOCK YOU ALL HAVE TO LEAVE" a black cloud is over the whole tealuxe experience. So happy blue state serves tea, thats where I will be going. Too bad as the tealuxe tea was delish!.

My favorite tea at Tealuxe is the royal coconut- It's a green tea infused with bit of coconut flavor in it But, if u are not a big fan of coconut taste, I wouldn't recommend it! Other than that I also think their black milk tea is pretty good as well and I think their frozen matcha is another popular menu-

This place is nice and it's a pretty good alternative Starbucks which is nearby. I tried their mocha nut maté tea, which is pretty good. I wish they had more places to sit. There were two people working at the counter. The girl that was helping me seemed to be nice, but the other guy that was there wasn't terribly friendly but wasn't terribly rude. I read several reviews about people complaining about the customer service there. You would think they would've fixed this issue by now. They have a huge variety of different teas. Lots of fair trade stuff. Overall a pretty decent place.

  • Nadia B.

Amazing options! I thought it wasn't overly pretentious either. Nice vibe in the place as well. I think I had a cinnamon fall flavored tea and really enjoyed it--- they also put a LOT more than a tea bag in starbucks puts in so expect it to be stronger (or take it out earlier if strong is not your cup of tea... get it?!) I crack myself up.

The white pear- excellent! beautifully refreshing and light with a lovely fruity note. The almond croissant- sweet and crisp, paired perfectly with my tea. I stopped in to warm up after exploring around. There were plenty of seats-- granted it was still during break in college town. I approached the counter where I surveyed the extensive list of offerings. I was the only one ordering, I wasn't holding up a line and at one point one of the guys laughed under his breath... I guess since I was a newbie. Once they plopped down my tea, conversation behind the register seemed to preoccupy them from recalling that I'd also ordered a croissant. Later some of their friends came in and it seemed they were more willing to chat it up and accommodate. From skimming the reviews, it seems that the service can have its good and bad. I happened to have come on a bad day. For tea so wonderful, the experience left a sour taste.

I can't really add anymore that has already been said. Bottom line is, if you like tea, come here. They have all kids of varieties from your old favourites to flavours and blends you never thought possible. A couple of things I can add that I didn't see in previous reviews. One is the iced chai. I love, love, love iced chai when it's hot out. The one here is different from what you might be used to because it's real tea and not made with a chai powder or Oregon chai. The iced chai here is good, however I do wish that they would use less cinnamon because as refreshing as it is all I could taste was cinnamon. The other thing is the lack of cakes or pies. My first experience with Tealuxe was with their dearly departed and sorely missed location on Newbury St. in Boston, and at that location they had the most delicious cakes to go along with your tea. I definitely miss that at this location!

  • Carlene G.

I'm sure the teas are great; however, after the male employee behind the counted rolled his eyes at us, sighed, and acted as though he was doing us a favor by taking our order and allowing us to remain in his presence, I wasn't interested in giving my money to such an unpleasant personality. Instead, I waited until we could go to the coffeeshop up the street. The tea shop got a star back because the girl behind the counter was extremely pleasant. Will not return, ever.

Tealuxe is a great place to go if you want a different alternative to just coffee. I was about to go to Blue State Coffee, but it was packed! I decided to go to Tealuxe because it has a laid back atmosphere. I got the Copley Vanilla Tea. It was a black tea and it came in its own personal pot. It smelled like cake! The prices are reasonable, only $3.87. The service was great too. This place is a must if you consider yourself an East Sider.

  • Stephanie M.

The wifi is free now, and they recovered the benches so they're not so pathetically shreddy. The staff has also improved - perhaps they started reading Yelp reviews? Who knows. The tea is still very good, and the prices and selection may have even improved a bit. The only real downside now is the lack of outlets. Oh, and the hordes of spoiled-rotten Brown students, but it's Thayer, so oh well, right?

  • Jef S.

Somewhat cramped quarters in this corner store, but the tea is good, which is what really matters. I'm a fan of the rooibos. But stick to the liquids! I ordered and tried to eat a corn muffin; it was the driest piece of bakery I've ever eaten. I needed three EMTs and the jaws of life to remove the pieces from my throat. The bathrooms are clean, but they smell sorta funny.

  • Bo J.

Copley vanilla earl grey is my favorite. Vanilla rooibos is also fantastic. This place is awesome for working out of, almost never too busy or too loud. It's basically turning into my second office. My only gripe, the internet here is pretty slow sometimes.

As a tea enthusiast, I have pretty high expectations for tea houses--especially those that are as highly priced as Tealuxe. That being said, I do think Tealuxe does their job and provides a really clean, strong brew of a diverse selection of teas. I will say that I wish their staff were a little more knowledgeable about the teas they are serving. If they have "milk tea with bubbles" on the menu, I would hope that they could answer the question, "...is it like Asian milk tea?" with more than the response, "...what's Asian milk tea?" I'm not sure if they were just being snooty about their tea not being confined to ethnic labels, or if they really just don't know what bubble tea really is or is supposed to be. I will say, though, that I'm glad SOMEONE in Providence serves bubble tea. I also think that a larger selection of pre-made iced teas (brewed daily) would greatly enhance their menu. Overall, great decor, great options, strong tea.

  • Alma C.

Tealuxe is to tea as Starbucks is to coffee. It has a commercial retail shop feel, has tea accessories for sale, a limited amount of food for sale, and a wide variety of choices for dried plants to be steeped in hot water. If you like tea, this outfit is one of the better of the limited tea options in Providence, but so far I haven't experienced anything special here.

  • Heather H.

I love tea, I mean I really Loove tea. I was super excited to try Tealuxe when I first heard about it but it fell short of the massive potential that a place like this has. The selection is impressive, the tea that I've tried there is excellent. Yes the customer service is yet to be desired but I can overlook that. What I can't overlook however is the layer of film that seems to cover everything. The menus are sticky, the copper counter is sticky, the floor was sticky. I just wanted to clean All The Things! I can't relax when it's so obviously unkempt. I'm not a neat freak by any means but when you can't touch anything without sticking to it, that's just unfortunate. I will go back for the tea but I will get it to-go from now on.

Love Tealuxe Lady Hannah and their various black teas, so good !! And the staff that work there are friendly and fun :)

  • Jay D.

Love the variety in tea selection, seating is limited....the staff isn't the friendliest ever but they aren't awful either. It is nice to sit along the windows and people watch or chat with a friend over tea. They also have bubbles. Does get busy at times but you can usually find a seat. They do not have outdoor seating. Parking is on the street only. Never had a bad experience here. If you need a tea break this is your kinda place.

The drinks were great but I think we caught the staff on a bad day. My friend accidentally spilled a drink and they were very annoyed and brusque with us, so much so that we felt really uncomfortable and left.

Good teas and all, but the service at Tealuxe is so awful and the staff so sour and unpleasant, I've written it off for good. To be fair, I've given Tealuxe a number of tries over the past three years but it really never ceases to amaze just how unwelcoming their staff is. Save yourself the headache and head to Blue State across the street. Fewer teas, but way nicer people!

Came here with my guy to get a Christmas gift for his mom. I went up to the counter to buy a Holiday Tea. I go to pay and couldnt find my wallet. I told the guy nevermind I had no money and he said no worries, Merry Christmas. SO nice of him and saved me from even more embarrassment. My guy ended up buying some tea and tipping him to make up for my mistake. He got the raspberry green and pumpkin chai for his mom. The decor is really cute with tea quotes on the wall and cozy seats for your tea. There is a wide menu and the workers are really helpful and explain things to you if you are new there. They are all super nice and the place is very inviting. Located on Thayer St, it is filled with college kids hanging out and studying. If i lived around here this place would be one of my go to places. Very cute and good for small groups or to go and sit alone to read a book.

I slipped in to Tealuxe one afternoon to escape the pouring rain on my way back from Downcity to my apartment on the east side. I grabbed a Providence Phoenix and cozied up with my pumpkin chai tea to warm up. I had passed the place on an almost weekly basis, but had never walked in until that moment (mainly because I am more of a coffee drinker than a tea drinker). The establishment looked and felt hip, without feeling pretentious. The staff was friendly and the service was fast. My tea was delicious, and had just the right mixture of sweetness and spice. The pumpkin flavoring was good but not overpowering. I would definitely return again, as it was a nice place to hang out and read. It also provides good people watching if you take a seat on one of the bar stools facing Angell and Thayer st.

I have attempted to go here before but there were no places to sit, so I had to wait to see what I thought of their tea and food. This time, Tealuxe was my saving grace because I had been to 3 other coffee shops that were already closed or about to close (day before thanksgiving), but this place was open.. yeah! I got one of the daily tea selections and a cookie (cookie place cookies - no chocolate chip though). As a tea drinker it was exciting to have so many options, even though it was a little overwhelming. I would definitely like to check out some more adventurous ones next time I go. Yes, there will be a next time because there are some comfy spaces to sit and do work in and the cookie was good. I saw that they also have sandwiches, so that will warrant another try. I just hope I get a seat and that the staff is a little friendlier. The staff seemed to be more occupied with their friends who were visiting and each other to adequately serve the customers. Still, I will give it another go.

Wow, it's not every day you stumble upon a great little tea house like this. But with all the other fantastic little businesses on Thayer Street, maybe I shouldn't be surprised. ;) Excellent spot to chill out and enjoy some exotic teas, or just freshen up. Try the boba tea! (Oh and, yes- they have a public bathroom! Score!)

I stopped here for a tea while on a little road trip. As a tea drinker, it's always hard to find good tea in cafes. Usually they just put a tea bag in warm water, charge you a couple dollars and call it a day. It's such a relief to go to a place where tea is the point and the chai is not from a mix. I got the kashmiri chai and it was delicious. I wish we had a Tealuxe in Austin!

I'm completely addicted to Jasmine Dragon Pearl tea and Tealuxe's pearls are very good. They don't skimp on them and they make the most wonderful cup of Jasmine tea you can find in the city. I tend to get my tea to go, but I have sat at the window and watched the hustle and bustle of Thayer street passing by. The place has nice atmosphere and seems relatively clean. I would have given them 5 stars, but I wasn't too impressed with the Broad Street English Breakfast tea I tried one time. Not as bold as my morning cuppa Yorkshire.

I don't understand how this place has anything less than five stars in any review, considering: - The decor? Fabulous, without being offensive (think Duck & Bunny- beautiful, but way too much) It's comfy, it doesn't play pretend like Starbucks, I like it. They could use a couch or something but overall I've never found it to be loud or hard to find a single seat. In fact, I even wrote most of my most recent psych paper there. I also don't "get" the comments regarding a strange odor. What? - The teeeea? Awesome! And so many different kinds! I like getting iced black milk tea with soy over bubbles and it's delicious every time. The chai is really nice too, lots of cinnamon and bite. When I want something hot I go for a peppermint yerba mate or any one of the flavors of their TEA INFUSED HOT CHOCOLATE. Yeah, I did just say that. Again, I'd recommend peppermint but I just like what it does to my throat. - Seriously? Complaints about the staff? I don't know if it's because I work on Thayer too and I've gotta defend the Thayer Street Family, but I've never gotten anything but polite service. Just saying, I love them. - Price? Reasonable. No more damage than Starbucks, and definitely a lot less in most cases. I also saw someone knocking them for being a chain, whatever. I think there are three in New England and that's about it. This isn't a multi-national conglomerate we're talking about, people.

tealuxe has good tea drinks but terrible customer service. i spent the summer in providence and frequented tealuxe several times because my daughters love bubble tea with their frozen yogurt (which is next door), however, the abysmal, snooty, stuck up, testy, insolent, arrogant customer service at this location literally prompted me to write my first yelp review in forever. also, the food is lousy. a good housecleaning of staff would be my recommendation. or finding a better, kinder, more appreciative place to buy tea.

    (1)
  • Ji H.

Yeah, their selection is wide, and the place looks legit... but I can't recommend any of the 5+ drinks I have had here. Plus, their milk tea is truly horrible. Don't even try being adventurous with their boba. Just don't. You'll get a cup filled with hard balls of carbs that you will eventually throw out. Their cookies? Heck no. Their brownies? Yuck. (I guess it's my fault for being hungry here.)

Tealuxe is my favorite place in the Thayer Street area to try and get work done in between bouts of shopping. During the colder weather I'm pretty much game for any and all of their hot tea selections and usually just take a cup of whatever one of their employees recommends that day. One of the things I really like about going into Tealuxe is that by leaving my order "to chance" I'm going to get to try a beverage I probably wouldn't have picked out on my own from the staff and a taste of their tea-based knowledge too. The interior of Tealuxe is cozy and the window seats offer a chance for some good people watching as the cafe sits on the corner of a busy intersection. Free wifi, decent bathrooms, good tea and a nice atmosphere make Tealuxe worth your time and money over other cafes in the area. Don't be surprised if it's hard to get a seat though (especially if you want to be near an outlet, there aren't too many of those in the dining area which makes them a hot commodity) space is limited inside and it tends to stay full all day.

While the product is always stellar, the amount of fun that I have is completely variable based on who is working. The manager who closes every night except Tuesdays and Wednesdays (Knowing the staff schedule is when you know you go too often) is one of the most genuinely friendly and knowledgeable people that works there. My advice is to not come in before 3 PM.

This is by far my favorite of the Tealuxe locations (the other two being Harvard Sq. Cambridge, and Newbury St. Boston - not exactly a "chain" in my opinion, but let's not quibble over semantics). This is the sort of place which can help you survive a day on the East Side - great bar-style window seating for watching the Thayer St. crowds go by, comfier booths for meeting with friends. And the tea ranges from good to divine. They always have different brews on tap, in hot and iced, at a slightly-reduced rate. Downside is, if you like iced teas, you're at the mercy of whatever yesterday's workers decided to brew - they can custom-brew hot teas, but not cold. You can buy quirky little teapots and cups here, and take tins of their multitudinous teas to go, with different rates depending on the rarity of the tea. Makes a nice gift for the tea connoisseur. My favorite? Iced Royal Coconut, with tapioca bubbles. Drizzle in a little simple syrup, toss in a lemon wedge (that's right, they have lemon wedges), maybe a dollop of milk if you're feeling creamy, and you have your own Orientalist fantasy in a cup. Grab a pastry or sandwich, sit down, and see how many people you can get to look back at you in the window.

I am a very regular customer...I go here at least 1-3x/week because I am addicted to their tea. Ok, I agree with the off and on customer service. I actually just ignore the bad customer service because I want my tea! And yes, the bathroom sucks, but again, I love the tea. My only complaint is that they do not cook the tapioca pearls/bubbles enough so that they are actually hard and chewy...quite gross and ruins the beverage. Sometimes they cook them enough and sometimes not.

What a huge selection of tea you have! What reasonable prices for teas in every size! What lovely decor you have! These were the wows about Tealuxe for me. If you want tea and nothing but tea, this is the place for you. You can even get bubble tea, what a brilliant idea! It would've been a 5 if the seats were a little more comfortable, if there were more scones/pastries available to dunk into my delicious personal pot of tea, and if they kept a better eye on how much cream is in the carafe. Still, the staff is helpful, attentive, and kind.

Brew with your small crew Personal pot (made from tea) Bubbles in all drinks! Tea makes me skeptical. As someone with a passion for coffee, I often consider tea to be that sissy cousin you pushed around as kids who developed crippling social issues later in life. Instead, Tealuxe has turned that kid into that same cousin who decided to fight his demons, hit the gym hard, and excel at Division II collegiate sports, leading to a brief but lucrative CFL career. With all the varieties, there really is something to choose for any palate, including avowed caffeine addicts. The Mate variety packs a spicy punch, as well as a full compliment of caffeine and the herbal varieties make great iced drinks. If you're in the mood for something but not sure of the specifics, ask the staff. They've been very helpful on quite a few occasions for me, and I've never come away disappointed when I trust their recommendation. I really love that they only have one or two things pre-brewed, so you know that what you're getting is very fresh. Tealuxe, as a shop, is a great spot to chill, but not if you're in a large group. It's too loud to study or get any real work accomplished as well. It's best suited to a quick conversation over a pot of tea instead of an all afternoon laptop binge. Points deducted for lack of group seating and a shaky wireless connection

This is as good as it gets for PVD...unless you want to go to Providence Place mall for Teavana which is pretty much the same. They always have discounted specials if you don't feel like going through their extensive meny. For iced tea I'd go with mango mist, but when it comes to hot I'd go with the vanilla nut matte or peachy white. If your sick try the "throat tender"!

This place can trick people into thinking that it is a boba/pearl tea shop, but what makes it so great is that it definitely is not. This place is the Ritz of tea shops; with hundreds of varieties of tea leaves to choose for brewing. You can try rarities that you wouldn't find in the tea section of your supermarket, and find local flavor if you are too shy to explore. The ambiance is hip locale to do some casual studying, however go at the wrong time of the day and you will be frustrated with noisy chatter. For Brown University students, this is one of the places to be on Thayer. It is also a nice place to try and explore, if you are sick of Starbucks.

I had been here several times and left because it was always crowded, which is generally a good sign, but this is a college town ...so I was reserving opinion until I could go more than once. Recently it was parents weekend, a perfect opportunity, and I was pleasantly surprised. I stick to assam when I am trying a new place because it's a solid black that I always drink and I can judge it best. Let's address the staff. Ya, every other review that mentions the young, slightly rude folks behind the bar are not wrong. Yes they were clique-y,a little condesending, self involved yada yada...but they recommended the special when I ordered the assam which brings a free refill and since I was hanging out, I partook. The tea was good. Not out of this world but definitely good.I sat at the window bar, which was cool because I could sip and people watch(lots of parents) and relax. I got my refill, no questions asked, and although they weren't necessarily friendly, I'm an older gal and that clique-y mess doesn't bother me.I smiled. They smiled. Tea was good. Refill wasn't a problem. Crowded, a little loud with the families yapping, but it thinned out and was kinda cozy. The next day I went back for an assam to go...this one was actually better because I cud leave my tea leaves as long as I chose to. Same staff, not any friendlier or any recognition from the day before but watev. The last day I hung out only for one cup, definitely less people since families were going home, and I had a relaxing time.Quiet. Tea was good too. I'll definitely be back every time I head to Providence.

Last time I was in there, the guy behind the counter corrected the woman in line in front of me several times over her pronunciation of the tea variety she had selected. When I ordered he proceeded to ask me why I liked green teas because and I quote "they taste like grass to me", when I shrugged and said well I guess I like grass taste. He told me he hated tea and only drank coffee. Well that bit of informations makes total sense when you consider that they prepare ALL of their teas whether they be black, red, green or white with the same temperature of water... To some up, the staff is bizarre, there isn't enough seating and they don't prepare many of the teas correctly. That said they do have a wide variety and it could be a good entry point into tea... I'd recommend avoiding delicate white or greens. But then again, Providence always seemed to be a coffee town to me anyway.

I revisited this place today, ordered a personal pot quietly, and was then asked to leave the store because of what I wrote in my review below. I thought it an overreaction and pretty unprofessional. Although I was hurt to be thrown out, it doesn't change my opinion overall. Too many good memories, too many friends and too much good tea in that building. I'd still tell everyone to go try it. Of course, you won't see me there anymore. :\

If you are going here for bubble tea, just turn around. They add bubbles to any tea you want which with a lot of teas just doesn't taste right. Bubble tea is way better in a smoothie texture, not a hot tea. I got mine iced but the caramel brulee bubble tea was just yuck!! Also, my boyfriend had a pumpkin chai latte and it was hot water. Not going here again.

CAN YOU SAY CHAIN? Tealuxe is a chain, like any other. Tealuxe was in Cambridge before it was in Providence, and I'm sure there are many other locations all over. WHAT HAPPENED TO THE EXPERIENCE? Tea should be an experience, but in America we tend to make it a pedestrian affair, much like what we've turned coffee into. Tea is not coffee and coffee is not tea, but nice try. COFFEE JUST LIKE TEA? = YOU If, however, you seek out the generic, busy coffeehouse experience, translated into a tea world, this place is for you.

Oh no a tea shop and right by that HUGE coffee place, but yes its all tea all the time, so many choices. So nice when I waiting for a show at Brown or a program at RIHS.

Great atmosphere, fresh teas, free wifi. This place is a sweet place to sit, enjoy a fresh brew, and write a paper. There is seating against the window but I'm not too partial to watching people walk by as I slave away at my computer.

  • Pam Z.

If you're not too picky about your teas, this is a cool place to experiment with flavors you might otherwise not have tried. The daily special brews are a great deal, and I always find at least one on the list that intrigues me. I never stick around the actual cafe to drink it, though; there's just something about it that seems stark yet loud. Amazing find: sometimes, if you hit it right before closing, they put the leftover baked goods on the counter FOR FREE. They're not the best, but they're free dammit so nab on if you're around. THAYER STREET BUBBLE TEA SEARCH, part 2: 1/5 Ick, ick, ick. You guys do gourmet, fun teas well. Stick with it. Boiled tapioca balls cannot simply be dumped straight from the pot into any random tea container you find lying around. Hard, cold, bland, and mixed with BARLEY tea? Are you guys losing it? NO.

    (3)
  • Elena S.

The hot tea selection here is great; they serve high quality stuff, and the menu is extensive. They also have free wifi, which is convenient. But every time I've been in, without exception, I've seen the staff treat customers poorly. It's as if they can't be bothered to help you and resent you for asking. Outside of that, the atmosphere isn't as warm and cozy as you'd think a tea house might be (and the tables are sticky), but they do serve good tea. So, if you can stand the attitude, I recommend coming here. Oh, and if you order a tea of the day "for here" you get a free refill, but you have to ask for it *in a glass*. If you don't and you ask for the refill they won't give it to you.

There is only one word that describes Tealuxe - YUCK. From the very, VERY disgusting bathroom that looks like it hasn't been cleaned in months to the table tops full of crumbs to the watery pumpkin chai latte that made me feel sick to my stomach with the first sip I took, my opinion of Tealuxe is that it's gross and was a complete waste of money and time. My husband and I like our chai lattes, and were pretty excited to come across a place that specialized in tea and advertised pumpkin chai lattes as well as other tempting drinks on the window. Well... we should have thought twice. Compounding the grossness of Tealuxe was the service... two very gossipy young women who took their sweet time making our drinks and acting annoyed at the sight of us. I was about to ask to have my chai redone because it was gross and cost $5.00, but then a bunch of folks came in who were apparently friends of the girls at the counter and it turned into a gab fest. So, my husband and I said forget it, left, and threw our full drinks away in a garbage can outside. Waste of money. Tealuxe will definitely not get my business again. I really hope the store manager reads this, tells the baristas here to get their acts together, and cleans that darn bathroom.

    (1)
  • Gil L.

Like tea?, then Tealuxe is the place for you. This "teabar" offers a wide selection of teas, from the common to out of the ordinary varieties. The counter help knows their stuff, is quick, and polite. The shop has a nice coffeehouse feel, comfortable seating, and is a great place to chat or people watch while sipping tea. The store sells pastries to go with the tea, and they looked delicious, but I didn't try any so I can't confirm if they tasted as good as they looked. This is a great little place to take a break and take in the college atmosphere.

  • J C.

While the tea was great, the staff was incredibly rude. It is rather awkward to be ignored, and then when I finally get their attention (because they are yapping away about their personal lives), they make fun of your order. Why in the world would you do that? I was quite taken aback at how unkind and rude they were as they laughed at the tea I had chosen.... My other bone to pick is this, must I listen to the ups and downs of your boyfriend from across the room as you scream about it to the rest of us. Or do we have to listen to you discuss the man across the street who you have decided is the "creepy guy?" Quite unfortunate because I really do like their tea. I am certainly never going there again. BTW. You can be a hipster AND be polite too... You don't need to be a total JERK!

  • Amanda P.

Not understanding at all the venom that this place is getting from local Providence residents. I absolutely love Tealuxe, and I've rarely been steered wrong. Some good combinations I've found: strawberry sencha or coconut souchong, iced. Also, the almond rooibos with honey is perfect if you're in the mood for something soothing, sweet, but not heavy. The hipster staff have never been rude to me, and they always play really good music, usually folk, acoustic rock, or alt-country.

    (5)
  • Marc H.

Whenever I'm in Providence, I always try to stop at Tealuxe on College Hill at some point. It is a quirky, funky place, with interesting music, a very offbeat crowd, and some unusual teas. My one complaint is that the tea usually comes to me way too hot, making it undrinkable for about 15 minutes or so. But I would definitely take this place over Starbucks or Panera.

  • Gabrielle P.

Stumbled upon this place and loved it! We loved their huge selection of Chai teas- didn't know there were so many! They have all sorts of tea gadgets for sale and the menu is very educational. The staff wasn't very friendly and I suggest NOT using the restroom here. BUT if you just want to run in and out for tea- check it out!

Great teas! I wish they had tealuxe in California and New Haven :(. Wonderful variety of hot and iced teas. Just from visiting, I could see that it got busy often as students crowded the tables and seats to study while i was there.

Great place to sit and chat. They had a great selection of teas which made it hard to decide. I got a mango tea and it was great. Definately a place I would go back to with friends to have a good hang out conversation!

This place was my home away from home while I went to college in Providence. The staff has always been very pleasant with me, even when I spent several hours "studying" at the bar along the window. They could have easily asked me to leave or buy something in order to make room for someone who was actually going to eat there. But no, they left me in peace to read, watch the crazy's at the bus stop across the street, or flirt with the Brown boys. I am a fanatic when it comes to tea so Tealuxe is sort of a mecca for me with their great menu of rare and exotic blends. The sandwiches are delightful and the potato salad is really good! I have been to all three Tealuxe locations, but this one is by far my favorite!

Great selection of teas; not the most comfortable place in the world to hang out - only a few seats at tables, the rest are bar seats by the windows. Holy CRAP, pun intended, the bathroom was kind of gross if you know what I mean. Clearly the cool kid employees don't like to go in there too often and do a little scrubbing. Also minus one star for charging for the wifi :(

  • Tami R.

Cute tea place, reminds me of a place in Park Slope (Brooklyn) that I went to a while back. Great selection of tea and a really nice staff. They make really good scrambled eggs adn toast for liek $3 which is nice, but I took away their 4th star because they dont really have comfy chairs.

  • Tanya D.

After having cheap beer (Narragansett) and greasy tacos, I wasn't feeling so hot. My friend took me here and we got one of Tealuxe's medicinal tea blends. The name escapes me, but it was a mix of ginger, mint, and ginseng - the very ingredients we needed to restore our gastrointestinal equilibrium. We played a mean game of Scrabble in this cute & homey cafe as we sipped our tea, and felt much, much better when we were finished!

  • R L.

I'm not a tea expert, but the chocolate raspberry black tea that I order was excellent. Full-bodied, rich flavor. I also had a vegan panini--toasted bread that was spread with hummus and layered with lettuce and tomato. Yum. All the sandwiches come with either potato salad or chips on the side. If I were in Providence longer, I would definitely sample more of their teas--there are so many varieties! They also have a good selection of tea gifts, from tea bags to clay tea pots to flavored sugar. Quiet, but inviting atmosphere, a great place to wind down with a hot drink and a good book.

I tried to get bubble tea here. In boston, tealuxe is known for its special flavors of bubble tea. here, they were a bit bewildered. she said they dont have flavors of bubble tea, to just pick an iced tea and they'll stick in some bubbles. and that's exactly what she did. there wasnt even any milk. it wasnt special at all. i went again cuz i was thirsty and that tea didnt even taste good. i kept 3 stars though because they still have the usual good regular tea and sandwiches, even though i didnt have any of them. i'm sure theyre as good as the boston one's are. probably.
