Love this Starbucks! Excellent outdoor seating and great location. Servers have always been very nice. They have their own parking lot which can fill up but there is also street parking on the side streets.

Some of the baristas are jerks. Like, seriously, stop the attitude. I haven't had coffee yet and I don't need your side eye.

Love this one! its bigger its nice & clean has a big fire place and you can lounge on a big comfy chair all the staples of the Starbucks but in a extra nice setting they have their own parking lot which makes it even more inviting I need a tazo chai latte NOW

5 stars for a Starbucks? Yes, and here's why this particular chain coffee shop rules: 1. Free parking - there are very few places where you can park for free in the city. Even when you are fortunate to be able to park for free, there is often a time limit. If you are fortunate to get one of this Starbucks' spots, you can stay there as long as you'd like! 2. Outdoor seating - and tons of it! There's nothing better than people watching in Way.and Square with a Mocha Light cappuccino. 3. Huge bathroom with baby changing station - if you have a child, this means you have found the holy grail. This clean restroom is big enough for a person with a wheelchair or a stroller, and also has a kangaroo care changing station. To my knowledge, this is the only place around the boulevard that has a changing station. If you are going for a walk on blackstone boulevard with your baby, make sure you stop here at some point so that you can do a proper diaper change. Other venues nearby have small basement bathrooms that are unsuitable for baby changing. 4. Friendly staff- need I say more? 5. Fireplace - cozy on up with free free wifi, or grab a book, and enjoy your fresh drink by the glowing embers. In the end, this chain coffee shop goes above and beyond other ones that I know. Plus, it's facilities far exceed the neighboring restaurants.

Very nice (and often very busy) Starbucks with free parking, comfortable seating and free wifi. The baristas are super helpful and most know their stuff and are willing to help and to explain if you're not sure of a beverage or a coffee blend. This Starbucks also offers the reserve coffees using the clover system. A super nice change of pace. If you stop by in the early hours and Peter is working make sure to seek him out with any detailed questions or just to say hi. He's super friendly and he really knows his stuff!

Layout and seating are HUGE for me. Why I fancy this Starbucks so much is its open seating plan. The seating arrangement is fairly spaced out, typically allowing two-three people on each circle table. Giving enough room to study, read, chat and sip that cup of coffee in the mornin.' The private parking lot is a gem in this area, but don't count on getting a spot since they fill up pretty quickly. What makes it so cute and quaint is their lovely patio area. An outdoor seating area that allows you to unwind as you watch the people passing down Wayland Square. A simple townsy neighborhoody (yes, I do realize I'm all sorts of winning in the vocabulary department here) atmosphere that makes you second guess yourself: "Wait, what. This is a Starbucks??" The baristas are friendly and patient. The service was surprisingly quick yet unhurried. They got through the long line efficiently without making me feel rushed. *brownie points*

This place cannot make an iced green tea latte for the lives of them. I've never had chunkier green tea lattes in my life and no matter what they do it doesn't get better. I keep coming back thinking maybe it'll get better, or at least I'll get a barista that knows how to make it right but that's never the case. Everything else has been fine there so far, but since this is my favorite drink I'm not sold. Also got soy milk for an iced beverage poured from a steamer pot labeled "dairy" - shouldn't they be separated for those of us with dairy allergies? Not exactly the most reassuring thing in the world.

I know, I know, I know... It's a CHAIN. And it's a coffee chain, at that. But when my beloved Edge cafe closed down last fall, I was forced to find another location in Wayland Square with ample seating, delicious hot beverages and free wifi. This Starbucks fit the bill. One of the advantages of frequenting this Starbucks is the fact that they have their own parking lot. Now, this may not seem a huge deal, but in Wayland Square, it absolutely is. Free, non-street parking? It's a MAJOR plus. The cafe itself is relatively large, with a nice lounge area with plenty of sofas, chairs, tables and windows. You can sit out doors when it's warmer out, which is really nice, and it's just a few steps from a RIPTA bus stop. The baristas know what they're doing, and the retail section is decent. My complaint? These guys likely put my Edge out of business... Sad.

As a grad student, I'm always on the lookout for coffee shops with the best combination of quality coffee, good music, wifi, and accessibility, and this Starbucks has it all. Yes, it's a chain, but how many Starbucks have such lovely outdoor seating? It's finals time right now, and without the patio here I wouldn't be nearly as far along on all my papers. I've spent so many afternoons working here lately- something about getting to sit outside in the sun makes nonstop reading and writing a lot more tolerable. There are tables in the full sun if you want them; there are tables under nice big umbrellas if you're more of a shade person. I personally like the big communal table in the back of the patio, which has just the right amount of shade for glossy laptop screen visiblity! Of course, for the winter months, the interior is nice as well. Plus, if you want to take a break from working, the location of this place is on a really pleasant little corner and it makes for good people watching. People in Providence drive like maniacs and Angell Street is no exception, so be careful crossing the street if you're walking. But other than the occasional traffic, there are usually families strolling around, a ridiculous/disproportionate abundance of adorable dogs, and delicious smells wafting across the street from Red Stripe. The staff is also really pleasant. I've never encountered anything but friendly attitudes and good customer service at this location.

Let's do a compliment sandwich, shall we? A positive, then a criticism, then a positive? :) First of all, I love the location. This Starbucks is in a super cute part of town, and the people who frequent this location tend to be the peaceful, studious type. The layout is fairly open, they have a fireplace, and FOUR comfy chair, which is awesome. Sadly (and here comes the criticism), I've rarely had good service here. I often am in the store for 15-20 minutes just to order and receive my coffee. That's just ridiculous, I'm sorry. No food service establishment would consider that to be acceptable. There is no sense of urgency with many of the cashiers and baristas...even when there are 15 people in line. That's not to say that every employee there behaves like this. They have a few employees who are exceptional...I wish I knew their names so I could give a shout out!

Updated review: These Baristas are really awesome. If I could giev more than 5 stars, honestly, I would. I was having a really bad day today and when Elisha asked "Hows your day"- she actually meant it as a conversation and listened while I briefly spat out the sh*t that went down that was bringing me down. She agreed that really does suck and after I ordered told me my coffee was on her today. Really- it is such a kind small gesture but lifted my spirits. Small acts of human kindness should be shared because in my opinion- it is the little things that matter. Also, Peter and Lucy are always wonderful and keep the busy morning crowd going with great spirits. In closing, I love my Wayland Sq Starbucks- if it were a person I would want to marry it... or at least be besties.

Good luck finding a parking spot! Better to drive a few blocks down Elmgrove and park on the street, then walk down. I've had friends get into all out BRAWLS in that parking lot! Usually very, very busy so I never bank on finding a table or place to sit right away, sometimes you have to do some stalking. Staff is always super, super friendly and I believe it's the only Starbucks in RI with the Clover brewing machine! If it's not too busy, they'll make your drink in it...soooooooo good! Warm weather brings the crowd out onto the patio under the umbrellas...very relaxing and enjoyable!

I know this is Yelp and we're supposed to be anti-establishment types to some extent. But seriously, guys. As far as Starbucks go, this is like the Taj Mahal of Starbucks. Sure I'd rather spend my time at Coffee Exchange or Wildflower. They're "hipper" and better reflect the deep philosophical underpinnings of what coffeeshops should be. But Starbucks is Starbucks. And I think this is a really great one. The indoor space is large with lots of tables. The outdoor patio is sunny and promises a relaxed atmosphere to catch up with old (or new) friends. The coffeebar actually serves coffee from a Clover--you just can't go wrong with a Clover. Moreover, the baristas are always friendly... some may say... oddly chipper. But most of all, I appreciate the early and reliable business hours at Starbucks. Sure, this is why "the man" manages to get a head up. But there are days when I have to get to work by 5:30am on a Sunday morning, and I literally can't get coffee anywhere else. It's always nice to know that Starbucks, and specifically this Starbucks, will greet me with a warm smile, pump some caffeine into my bloodstream, and send me on my merry sleep-deprived way. It's a Starbucks. Get over it. I'm a fan.

Ok, Starbucks is Starbucks. But this one has some very friendly staff and a patio outside. Additionally, it is close to the dog park, so on cold fall/winter days, she gets to go to the park and then I get a treat for sitting outside with her. I prefer it to the one on Thayer because it has a parking lot, though the parking lot is ALWAYS a nightmare. Usually, you have to wait 5 mins for someone to come out to get their spot, or block the driveway that goes around the back while you run in and then deal with the pissed off motorists when you return.

I really hope to educate local coffee enthusiasts with this review: If you have a decent palette: don't buy coffee here! (duh) If, alternately, you care about buying a hip "image" that is carrying a green straw, DON'T COME HERE. Providence is a such an eclectic, booming, artful city; there are so many locally born coffee shops that offer delicious variety. I've known (and been related to!) very hardworking young folks who've work for starbucks. This makes it even more easy for me to say that this company is pragmatic and manipulative in it's recipes and image for serving "good" coffee, and abusing it's workers. 1. Starbucks can't even guarantee it's products are from certified fair trade coffee growers. 2. The origins of their coffee are.. questionable? I know for a fact they have their beans sitting on shelves for MONTHS. The local independent cafe in Providence? From working for/patronizing many of them, I know their beans have been roasted within the month (or less). 3. I've heard first-hand horror stories of the company's "corporate" terminating and penalizing workers unfairly. 4. Their espresso machines are super-automatic, meaning they press a button and nasty diarrhea espresso comes out. Espresso should be very manual. The beans should be ground, tamped, extracted and added to milk as you order your latte! If you've tasted a truly artisanal latte you will never go back. 5. Starbucks is full of crowded tables, slow internet, and impersonal/ miserable employees. If you want an environment to study/do work/ surf the internet; there are locally sustainable cafes all around you!

I'm sitting here at Starbucks, trying to finish some work, but I have to say that this is by far the best Starbucks in Rhode Island. The staff is incredibly friendly, and they have a Clover machine! I really am blown away by how sincerely kind and efficient the workers are here. The cashiers went through all the ingredients when I said I was lactose intolerant and helped me shift the balance on my Starbucks e-mail gift to a physical card. Even the kids who come here are well-behaved. Thank you for a great Sunday morning coffee run!

Possibly my fav place to get work done with my fav coffee. Esp when the holiday season gets around. If I can find space here, this place is worth 7 stars.

Venti unsweetened iced green tea defines my summer. The patio is huge and feels like a little oasis in Wayland sq. The baristas are friendly. Screw the coffee snobs and corporation haters. This place is great for cooling off and relaxing on a hot day, and that's my top priority.

Friendly staff, consistently- and properly-prepared drinks, and ample seating both inside and out make this one of the nicest Starbucks locations I frequent. My only complaint about this location is its insufficient supply of parking. Particularly during the morning rush, it can be difficult both to find an open space in their 20-car lot and to exit the lot if no spaces are available. My recommendation: unless you see a free space when approaching this location, make a right onto Elmgrove Avenue (immediately after the Starbucks) and park on the street.

  • Jamey B.

This is the Starbucks for the stroller set. Better service than the disaster on Thayer, but I consistently get incorrect drink orders at this location. However, plenty of seating, tables, room to maneuver strollers, a parking lot, and wifi make this a winner for worker bees and east side yummy mummies.

Hit or miss with this location. While they do have a free, private, dedicated parking lot you can almost never find a spot. Parking in this section of town is extremely difficult. Sometimes when I come here the baristas are friendly, the line moves quickly, and your drink taste like pure heaven. Other times (like today), the baristas seem to need an extra shot of espresso and a double shot of customer service. They definitely play favorites with their customers, I ordered an iced coffee, black. Two people behind me in line that ordered lattes got their beverages before I got mine. The latte people also seemed to know the baristas personally, one barista kissing a customer. Ew, gross, inappropriate and unprofessional. That really irritated me, seeing as I waited 10 minutes for a $3, 16oz, no effort black coffee. I did not leave a tip. They have all sorts of overpriced pastry and bakery items, as well as organic milk, and various juices. You can purchase coffee by the pound here, but it's $1 cheaper at Stop'n'Shop. Free wifi, but like the parking lot, the sitting area is almost always full. There's a fireplace and comfy looking seats (never actually gotten to sit down in here). There is a nice little patio seating area outside, dogs seem welcome. Smokers, this area is not your ashtray. The crowd here can be a little pretentious and sometimes downright annoying. Overall, 3 stars for this Sbux chain. Definitely room for improvement, but not totally awful.

The jist: Best Starbucks in a 1-mile radius! The detail: This Starbuck's redeeming quality is its location. The outdoor seating option is great during the spring and the summer. I've even heard tale of Pumpkin-Spiced lattes being sipped pretentiously by the fireplace that punctuates the large indoor sitting area. The parking lot is a nice touch for the location but it's often full. It's also oddly placed, taking up the bare minimal space required to be called a parking lot. Parking at the Starbucks is like playing Tetris with moving vehicles. But forget all that! Free parking in Wayland Square!!!! The service is good. Better than the Starbucks at Thayer, Downtown, and Providence Place Mall for sure. DEFINITELY better than the Starbucks near Johnson&Wales. At this Starbucks they're nice and courteous and make your drinks the way you'd like or expect it to be. This is by far the most consistent Starbucks. Worth the game of Car-Tetris.

This is a particularly excellent Starbucks for doing work. There are plenty of normal chairs and tables (I personally can't get work done at a stool or a couch, but they have those too), and even a big picnic table where you can spread out. I like this location's effort to act as more of a local watering hole of sorts. I've had some great convos with interesting people in here.

Consistently disappointed with the customer service at this Starbucks. Baristas are slow and more condescending than at most other Starbucks (and I'm a Gold level Starbucks rewards customer). Most recently (Saturday, 8/17 around 3 pm), I called asking for a couple boxes of coffee. The male employee on the other end of the line asked condescendingly if I was referring to their "coffee traveller." Obviously. Is there any other item Starbucks sells where coffee is contained in a box? When I went to pick up my order, service was slow and it was clear that the baristas weren't interested in moving any faster than absolutely necessary. The dairy for the 2 coffee travelers was given to me in two iced coffee cups (poor presentation and not easy to pour into hot coffee cups) one labeled "B" and the other "2%." When I asked what "B" meant, the female barista at the register blandly responded "Breve. Cream." -- as though I were the lowliest creature on the planet for not knowing. Long story short, I'd rather go to Starbucks near my office in Boston after an hour on the train than go to this Starbucks around the corner from my house.

Love Starbucks but I have an issue with one person occupying a table with his/her laptop for hours. Rather upsetting to get your coffee and discover there is no place to sit in the winter when it's 20 degrees on the patio.

    (3)
  • Stefan B.

I frequent this location regularly in no small part to the excellent tone and environment cultivated by manager Lauren and her staff. It's always a nice feeling to walk in and have your drink started as soon as you make eye contact with one of the baristas. I've come here for the last few years have only seen improvements over time. My only complaint is the lack of plugs in the building as a number of people who frequent this location use laptops.

    (5)
  • Jeff A.

Standard Starbuck's coffee which is always good. Staff is super nice. Just dumped my entire clover coffee on my laptop bag and they replaced the coffee and assisted with the clean up!

  • John C.

I like the building, the patio, and all that... I also like that they have a Clover (a $12,000 machine that makes one cup at a time)... I love the crazy-eyed manager who is passionate about his product. He's like the Christopher Lloyd of coffee... But guess what it's friggin Starbucks. Would you like burnt stale coffee, or another kind of coffee we burnt and let sit around? Then the idea of the Clover becomes absurd. It's like selling top-shelf gourmet pastries imported from France that have been sitting under the seat of your friend's minivan for 5 weeks. Yes, they had potential when they were fresh, but no longer. As is with Starbucks, who knows how old the coffee is and they can't roast anything light, even coffees that shine when given that treatment (like the Kenya). So I bought a great ingredient that was burnt and allowed to go stale...then made on a $12k machine that makes one cup at a time. Slightly absurd, eh? (I thought I'd add that they are now selling Kona coffee for $45/lb. You can buy direct from Hawaii fresh roasted for half that+ shipping.)

  • Bailey M.

The only starbucks I've been to where the service was SO FRICKIN' SLOW that I had to walk out without my coffee. I recommend going to Edge cafe and bringing your drink to Starbucks' outdoor patio.

    (2)
  • Paul T.

A latte' is crack to me. And I go here because this is the crack dealer that lives close by and, coincidentally, happens to be cousins with the guy I used to get my crack from. He's got the same stuff. It's just that this guys' house is all crowded with people and, despite that, I feel so lonely when I'm there. Sometimes I think it'd be worth it to drive to South Providence and find a new dealer on the streets. Problem is, I'm scared. So I stick with 'my guy' even though I know it's not the same. What I'm trying to say is that I love Starbucks latte's but the parking at this location sucks and the staff can be aloof. I will say this: they have the happiest manager/barista I have EVER seen anywhere!!! He's not always at the location but if he is, man, THAT is the guy you want making your drink!!!! I swear he must wake up every morning and run to work!

  • Andy G.

Not really sure why this Starbucks isn't more highly rated. It has a fireplace (a fireplace!), lots of tables, never too crowded, good lighting, and awesome friendly baristas who recognize regulars (I've never had my go-to drink - black iced tea with 10 pumps of classic - prepared improperly). There's outdoor seating for spring, summer time, and fall and it's situated in a great spot for people watching. If there's one thing that keeps me from giving it a 5 star rating it's that they never have my favorite pastries on hand when I go - that being said, I usually go after 8 pm so it makes sense that they don't re-stock after a certain time. At any rate, this is by far the best Starbucks I've been to in Providence and a fantastic place to read a book, study, or chat with friends.

If this Starbucks location were likened to a motor home it would be a Cadillac double wide. So gynormous and welcoming it is, says Yoda. It doesn't hurt that it's right next to my apartment and en route to work. It also serves all the tasty, healthy breakfast wraps and sandwiches. Plus, all I really have to say is: Clover. I know peeps hate on Starbucks but c'mon - they started the coffee revolution in the US. Give 'em some props. And hang at this one.

  • Chris P.

Even though I know a couple of people that work here, I still have to truth them a little bit. SCARY bathroom. I get this feeling that the rest of the place is kind of dirty too, though I can't put my finger on why. Maybe it's the arrangement of things, something out of place here or there, but overall I get the heebie-jeebies a little in here. Coffee is average SB, there is lots of seating both inside and out (well, lots for a SB) and the people are pretty friendly. I haven't figured out where you're supposed to park yet, so that may be a problem. But its proximity to the other shops in Wayland Square makes it a pretty convenient bet. Mix it up, The Edge coffee shop is about 1 minute away and is a local place. You can have SB anywhere.

  • Lindsay T.

Clean, friendly staff, drinks are always consistent...this is by far the best Starbucks I have been to thus far, and this is coming from a chick that only drinks Dunkin Donuts coffee.

My husband and I love Starbucks coffee. We go to this location out of necessity because it has parking (as opposed to the better one on Thayer Street). Today, though was our last visit. The afternoon crew is OK -- slow, messes up orders unless you are on top of them, etc. But there is one woman on the morning crew -- who is the reason for the one star rating. On a good day she is grumpy. Today was a bad day, and we paid the price for switching our order seconds after we put it in. We had ordered one coffee as a "Tall" then changed it to a "Grande." She looked at my husband and snarled, "You have GOT to be kidding me." No, lady, we were not and we even stuck to the Starbucks sizing (do not EVER say "medium" to this woman). We still got attitude -- for the last time.

Not sure why all the poor reviews here. Has a great, large, outdoor patio good for convo and people watching. The inside is spacious as well. Has a good sized parking lot, but you can easily find a spot on the street if lot is full. Nice east side of prov location. Service is good here as well. I'll be back here again for sure.

They have one of 50 Cover Coffee Machines in the country. If you don't know what it is, google it or go in and try. It's amazing. Lots of seating is great...but lack of parking isn't. If only the Providence Police weren't corrupt and had privatized the parking enforcement we wouldn't have to worry about that would we?

  • Erin C.

The Wayland Square Starbucks provides a pleasant respite from the hustle and bustle of the Thayer Street Starbucks. It is populated mostly by families and older intellectual types and has plenty of tables in a pleasant space with a high ceiling as well as outdoor seating that overlooks nearby businesses. The staff is efficient and the drinks are quite good even by Starbucks standards. I've yet to have a better caramel macchiato. Still, why go to Starbucks when The Edge is just around the corner?

    (3)
  • Eric C.

Well here I go again, reviewing yet another Starbucks? Can I really tell you anything new about this one? This location is located in Wayland Square on the east side of Providence (not to be confused with East Providence). Because of its location it's one of the busier areas around here. It's right across from other local coffee shops who unfortunately never get the business that Starbucks gets. I guess it's because of customer loyalty? They have their own parking lot but it's always full so you'll probably find yourself finding a parking space on the street somewhere. The people who work here are quick and courteous. I can't say the same for the customers in a hurry... Good amount of space outside and in for a quick get together or an impromptu meeting.

I love Starbucks Coffee and love trying out different establishments. This one is a little disorganized and help is a little unresponsive and entertaining. I give it a 3 star because I like the coffee. Restroom is fair on its upkeep. Plenty of seating outside and a little cluttered inside. Clientele that frequents this Starbucks are a circus act waiting to happen and are rude at best. Nice college area and plenty of pot smokers sitting outside here ruining the coffee aroma that I like to experience. When I complained about the pot smokers to an employee, I was told pot was legal. I responded that cigarets are legal but you can't smoke them in public. Her response was, "Pot is different." So, I am being generous when I dish out a 3 Star at this Starbucks.

5 stars for Service On this specific occasion I was heading into this location on Christmas Day because the Verisimo system I bought for my lady was broken. Peter took the time to not only trouble shoot the system but to then replace it with a new model and give me a replacement pack of pods for the ones I wasted on the broken system. Starbucks coffee is consistent but their service isn't, Peter was an example of how service can and should be. Oh and that Verisimo? Huge hit with the lady.

I simply can't BELIEVE I haven't written a review before now! This place is my second home--I grade, I write, I drink the coffee. Sometimes you need to be patient to get a table, and don't even get me started on tables near outlets...that's real estate GOLD. The baristas are lovely, accomodating, and always efficient. I've been a fan for years, and I'm sure I'll never be disappointed!

I am a weakling in my old age. I ordered 2 tall blonde roasts, one for me one for my com padre. They were SUPER hot and still kind of strong for a "lighter roast". I have had it at several other locations but this one was much stronger. Didn't like the interior of this Starbucks too much, very cold, very crowded, very snooty. Although the parking lot seems convenient, it is always full.
