im there at least once or twice a week for lunch. Sometimes for breakfast on Saturday. Clean, great home-cooked food, waitresses are very friendly. Great place for late night, too!

Great place to catch breakfast or satisfy that late night craving. Big portions, cheap prices, friendly staff. I mostly come for breakfast, the environment brings you back to the 80s, place fills with cops, elderly couples (cute) and regulars. Parking is tough during busy times.

A nice little diner. Super nice waitress took good care of me. An oasis in the midst of distincly non-oasis-y Allens Ave!

We stopped at this diner on our way home from cape cod. It is close to the highway. Don't be discouraged by the industrial area or neighboring "gentlemen's clubs". It's a vintage silver diner, booths, spinning stools at counter. Friendly staff and great traditional diner breakfast.

It's a small diner place but clean. Friendly staff. Fast service (on 7 am weekday). Most of all, they serve quality breakfast cheap!!! I ordered the chocolate chip pancakes. Yum! Parking can be tough. We ended up parking on the main road. I've been here before on a separate time. After a night of dancing and drinking downtown, of course, you're gonna get hungry. This place was very convenient although a little busy (with all the clubgoers). But we didn't wait long. Found seats right away. Open real late. Til 4 o'clock! Awesome!

I've drove by this place thousands of times and have always wanted to try it and the other day, I finally did just that! First of all, what a cool old school diner! I love the old feel to it! I felt like I stepped back in time or onto a movie set. My other half made it just in time to get breakfast (before noon) and I was able to get lunch. Its your typical diner food - no frills, straight to the point, stick to your bones kinda food! Both our meals hit the spot. This place seemed to do a lot of business just as we were leaving (around 1pm) but it's surprising how many seats this little place fits! I'll come back again!

Super cheap and large portions. A lot of things on the menu, some stuff looks better than others. I'm docking one point for the super small glasses (8floz i think) chock full of ice. I'm a big gulper so each glass of coke was only one sip to me and the waitress didn't come around. So I was needing more soda less than halfway through my meal but I just never got any, so that sucked. I got the saugys and they were undercooked so they weren't really good. The onion rings looked good but they were lukewarm? The price is right, I just wish I ordered something else. I'll probably never go back

The Seaplane diner provides your standard greasy spoon atmosphere and food. A great spot for after the bars, or early morning. Close to the Port of Providence and a nice view of the scrap metal yard. Close to local porn shops as well... But. don't really let that dissuade you. The food is good.

One of my favorite places for late night food. Always great customer service and quality food!

  • Todd M.

Good place with cheap prices so can't go wrong. Service was pretty fast and the staff was friendly. It's just like how a diner should be. Yes there is limited seating but they move it along. It's everything you would expect of these type of places. Can't go wrong here

  • Chelsea F.

I loveeeeeeeeeee Seaplane. The place isn't fancy, it's a diner. What more do you want when you're going to breakfast? There's limited seating, but it's WELL worth waiting. The prices are perfect and affordable and the food is to die for! There's nothing I enjoy than breakfast. Whether it's early morning, mid-afternoon or late night--I want it. Seaplane has offered breakfast every time I've been there--although I'm not sure if it's served all day. When I worked late nights or was out drinking, we went to Seaplane at 2-3am and it was delicious as ever--as you can imagine ;) Perfect spot any time of the day!

  • Nicole W.

I'm mostly indifferent to the Seaplane Diner. Simply put, the only reason to go here is because it's 5am and nowhere else is open and you're hungry. It's cheap diner food with hours that are convenient for the early risers and all-nighters crowd.

Seaplane diner is so good and yet so cheap. Its clean, its friendly, it is only open till 2pm on most days, because it really serves people who work early. They have the standard diner food, breakfast stuff. They do all of that with an extra touch. Fresher ingredients, cleaner silverware, nicer staff. Still, get the daily lunch specials. The lobster sandwich, or the pasta salad, or the ravioli. Those things really shine. The salads have really fresh ingredients. And nice things, like artichoke hearts and cut olives in them. They are not drowning in butter or sauces. They are simple and amazingly tasty. The pastas have subtle sauces, not cloyingly sweet junk you find at other places. All for just a few dollars. Not expensive. Cheap. I am always amazed when here (maybe fifteen times) that it isn't filled with hipsters and foodies. I am amazed and happy. For me. For the owners, I wish them more success. I doubt they are looking for that. The place is perfectly happy as is. Still, if anyone deserves it, its the Seaplane Diner.

Coffee needs help. Linguica and cheese omelet was average, and the home fries were on the greasy side. The service was good, friendly and timely. This place was average at best.

  • Welbi G.

The food is average needs creativity, service was great. Your basic American Diner.

I came here because I was doing a detail at the port and it seemed intriguing. The special was a gyro and I simply will not pass up an opportunity to have a real lamb gyro. Freaking Greeking thing was delicious with two halves and fries and sauce and... I loved it!!! If all the food here is this good then this place will earn future 5 stars from me every time. And there will be more times.

If you're going for ambiance, outstanding service, or haute cuisine, you're probably in the wrong location. But if what you really want is just some classic diner food served up in a casual joint in the wee hours of the morning, well then come on in to Seaplane and grab a seat! In my book, there is not much that is better than cozying up in a booth with friends enjoying some breakfast comfort foods while you rehash the stories of the night and ponder life's great existential questions. The food was good and pretty standard for a diner (just what I wanted), the service was just slow enough that you had time to really get in to the meat of your conversations and extend your night to hit that sweet spot, and the atmosphere was only enhanced by the eclectic mix of patrons. There is nowhere better for people watching than a late-night diner, except for maybe a Wal-Mart or state fair. That being said, the other patrons were probably thinking the exact same thing about my group. But, seriously, you are at a diner feasting on breakfast foods so who cares! It's like the best kind of alternate reality. What more is there to want?

    (4)
  • Tim M.

Came here for that classic diner experience, not caring too much about the food or service quality. We usually go to the Liberty Elm diner, which is now closed, so we came to the closest diner. My breakfast sandwich and my friends buffalo chicken sandwich were excellent. And our waitress, Tori, was an absolute gem. She was extremely personable and stopped by our booth to check on us regularly. I would recommend this place if you're looking for a nice diner in the area.

  • Alaina G.

I'll be darned...I thought that this was going to be a total flop, but I was 100% wrong. The menu is pretty much standard-diner fare, but there were a few things that made it stand out from other diner experiences. 1) the coffee is stronger than coffee-colored water 2) the home fries are awesome and have a kick. yum! 3) the coffee bun was super delicious (and huge. fed the whole table). 4) staff was efficient. It's a diner, folks, not twin oaks. In summary. If you want a place with local character and a diner feel, give it a try. If your idea of breakfast is somewhat more luxurious, and you want a more high-touch experience with plenty of customized options, it may not be your cup of coffee.

  • Jennifer O.

I've been here several times with my friends and we love coming here for a good breakfast! The food is delicious and always consistent. The staff is friendly and pleasing but they run around looking like chickens with no head. They should definitely hire another waitress or someone to only manage the counter. Especially on the weekends when they are super busy and register so that the waitstaff isn't running around the whole restaurant. Overall, great place to bring my family and friends!

  • Gail B.

Solid. Came again for breakfast with the hubs and we were both really pleased with the grub. Tasted good, friendly service, fair prices - it's a diner - that's all I care about in the end!

HUGE diner fan to begin with (the establishment, not the patrons). Although not in the most scenic of areas, the Seaplane is the real thing. Nostalgic design that has been retained, maintained, and not "updated". I loved it as soon as I saw it, in fact as it was a weekday lunch and looked busy as I drove by, I pulled a U-turn on busy Eddy St. anyway to get back there. It was there many years back when I attended J&W Culinary and didn't think it still existed. I'm glad it does. I was by myself, so seating was easy at the counter. Immediately a friendly waitress was there to wipe down the already clean spot I was seated at. I placed my order of the Southern Burger (fried onion & bacon), got my beverage immediately and was able to watch my meal being assembled. I don't know how these guys can cook in such tight quarters, but I was impressed. The meals going out began to give me diner's remorse; I started wondering if I should have ordered something other than a burger! It all looked awesome. When I got my meal, I was delighted that I HAD gotten a burger. The fries were fab, not at all greasy, at the waitress gave no attitude when I asked for a side of mayo for them. The burger was cooked perfect, not greasy, with melty cheese, ripe red tomato slices, crisp green lettuce and an above par roll. For under $10, I got a great diner experience with real diner fare and exceptional service even though it was pretty busy. As far as cleanliness goes, it looked to me to be fairly decent for the lunchtime rush, especially for 2 girls on with lottery, full diner, etc. Now I just gotta get here for breakfast some time!

  • Lizz W.

This place is awesome. Such an old school diner feel but very clean inside. I went here this weekend and we got: mushroom, onion, ham and cheese omelet, eggs benedict, and a grilled banana walnut muffin. I have not one complaint about the food. The coffee was bad, which usually kills a breakfast place for me but the cheap food and fast service make up for that i my book... next time I'd opt for juice.

  • Robert M.

Seaplane is a great little diner hidden over by the waterfront. People were all on a first name bases and and the staff very friendly. So 3 stars does not seem like enough, but yet there was nothing that really jumped out that made this place more special. That is not meant as a slight, but Modern has its Corned-beef Hash and other off the menu items. Seaplane is just a really good solid neighborhood diner. If I lived closer, I am sure I would be a regular. So, do not let 3 stars deter you from going. Good is good and hot.

(1). I got yelled at (using curse words) by the owned for asking a simple courteous question (2). The place is gross (they need to do a thorough cleaning) (3). Service sucks! As a CUSTOMER...You know, the people that pay your bills...Need to be acknowledged when they walk in and when they need such little thing such as refills, sugar and such. A.K.A. service!!!!!

  • Ira L.

this is a great breakfast and lunch place (also late nights). The food is amazing comfort food-- generous portions, very tasty and very well executed with a touch of artistry by a cook who really knows what he's doing. Very consistent. Eggs, pancakes, excellent hash, great sandwiches and wonderful lunch specials-- veal and peas, stuffed peppers, baked scrod, salads, sandwiches etc. Everything is good and a notch above what you find elsewhere. The restaurant is a real diner and is clean, bright, shiny and cheerful with comfortable booths and counter. The wait staff is fast moving and friendly. Also a wonderful diverse mix of people. Especially in bad weather you get the utility road crews, plow drivers etc, college students plus a few people in suits. All races, ages and types of people.

Great breakfast diner. Perfect combination of low cost, large portions, and quality. My most frequented breakfast spot in town. I always get the seaplane special: 3 eggs, giant portion of corned beef hash, homefries and toast.

Been going there for some time, but a few friday nights ago I went and when I asked the owner for a soda, he responded with "Why the F**k are you asking me?" I was a little confused why he would answer like that. I had met him before and seemed like a cool dude.. That night might of Been a bad night.. But sure not the way to answer.. He just lost some customers... Smh

The Seaplane is an old airstream trailer style diner with simple, basic diner food that is both unpretentious and unironic. Burgers, sandwiches, bacon and eggs, all that sort of thing. The Seaplane is one of the few places that has not gotten on the fancy brunch bandwagon with tons of specials on the weekends. As such, it tends not to draw the foodie/hipster crowd as much as it does the strip-club patron/city worker demographic appropriate to it's location on Allens Ave. It's open overnight on weekends so it gets crowded around the time the bars close, especially with the aforementioned strip club patrons. During the day it's popular but I've never had a long wait. I've always found the food to be plain and decent, and the service to be good.

Oh seaplane. Heard so much talk, but the engine noise corroded my ears. This was my first time going, hopefully will update in the future. 1) Food is phenomenal. 2) Bouncer dressed in cops clothes to be more intimidating, he also seats you. 3) Waited over 30 minutes for food, with 22 people present. (I counted) 4) The people on either side of me that came 5-10 minutes after received their food 5-10 minutes before me. Even though it consisted of 95% of the same items. 5) I reflected this on the very apologetic waitresses bill even though she explained how it was messed up that the cooks make some meals out of order depending on the seating and size of the meal. 6) They forgot to add cheese that I had ordered, and then did 5 minutes into my meal, by nuking the whole plate with a slice on top, giving me some nice hot ketchup to deal with when I got it back. 7) How else am I supposed to show my disdain besides punishing the waitress through tip?! Hopefully she yells at the chef enough who gets fired for such insolence 8) This numbering stopped making sense awhile ago. 9) Will re-review since as I said the food was amazing and this place was open till 3 so I will be back drunkenly erry day.

Guilty pleasure ftw. I love this place. A hop and a skip away from my parents' place and my beloved Honeydew iced coffee, Seaplane is probably my favourite diner, period. I have never received poor service nor have I been served poor food. Granted I've never stopped by for lunch, but then again, why would I when I can eat enough for all three meals at breakfast? It's no exaggeration that their Hungryman Special rocks my world. While I'm notoriously picky about how my eggs are scrambled and cooked, they totally make it right every time without the need to send 'em back. Absolutely heavenly pancakes and perfect home fries. Ihop has nothin' on these dudes quality and price wise. Added bonus? Sure the food doesn't qualify as 'healthy,' but unlike other places I've eaten breakfast at, nothing is actually drenched or sopping in grease. The interior doesn't reek like stale oil and everything is totally clean and well kept. Did I mention the service is great? Well, it is. I haven't been by in a while now and this is something that needs rectifyin' stat. In all seriousness though, you couldn't find a better value for your breakfast lovin' buck even if you tried swimming across the port of Prov. Once I eventually try their lunch/dinner I'll be sure to update.

Went in early May for breakfast & had the house special oriel pancakes. It was okay, but not anything special or worth a return. Good parking & a construction crew type patron base, at least while I was there. Services was okay. Looked at servings coming by and just not out of the ordinary. I like breakfast places and am always on the lookout, but this didn't do it for me.

  • Lauren P.

I went here because another diner I was planning to go to was closed. The food was okay but the atmosphere was horrible (and I normally love divey diners.) It was 9am and they were blasting rap music. Like Ke$ha and Lil Wayne. It just really wasn't the kind of thing you want to experience during a nice breakfast. On a positive note, the bathrooms were really nice and clean for a diner.

I made the trek down here Saturday morning and found the place nearly full at 7:30 a.m. That's a good sign,I figured, the food must be pretty good inside.Only a couple of vacant seats so,I grabbed one at the counter. Just two waitresses were handling the whole crowd and so the service was understandably slow. Finally got a cup of coffee and ordered off the menu. They have some of the best coffee I've had anywhere in here. Very good. When my meal finally arrived,It looked great and there was plenty of it too. This place was jammed but my waitress really did her best to keep everyone happy.I thoroughly enjoyed my breakfast and chatting with my waitress (when she could spare a moment).Solid diner experience here and I would come back again in the future.

I always stop here with a buddy from work to get breakfast. For $3.75 you get two eggs, two slices of toast, a mound of crispy homefries, and coffee. The waitresses are awesome and the cooks are incredibly fast. I've never gotten anything else here but am told by a friend that the lunches are filling and delicious.

  • Alison ..

best breakfast in providence. the chocolate chip banana pancakes aren't on the menu but they make them if you ask and they are delicious. omelettes are very good. Roberta is the best ask for her my boyfriend and I always sit in her section!

  • Elena K.

I don't know why I keep reading 4-star reviews. In the area (2-mile radius) of breakfast joints I've gone to, this was very mediocre. The onions were not cooked properly and my omelet was rubbery. Breakfast potatoes really not seasoned enough. And the inside is cool, some say, but I thought it to be a tad grimey. Try OV's on the other side of the highway, or keep driving south and go to Jp spoonems. If you live in the area, Three Sisters on hope street is also amazing and the french toast they serve there is homemade.

The Seaplane is great! After passing this place many times without even knowing it was there, a friend brought me here and I really enjoyed it! The buffalo chicken wrap has just enough bite! The Chicken Parm sandwich is one of the best I have ever had! It can be busy at times, but there is never a long wait. The staff is super friendly and great! I have never had the breakfast at Seaplane, but if you are looking for a banging lunch, this is your place!

  • Sis Y.

I've been here a few times. Every time was a different experience since every time was with different people (mostly.) If you are a white gloved tight ass, don't bother. The place is like most old school diners that are greasy grimy and busy. It's located on the waterfront but you won't see the water. It's not pretty but it is a classic. The breakfast food (because that is all I'v ever eaten there,) is good diner fare. Hash-browns, toast, pancakes, eggs, all the basics. If you are there after a night of drunken revelry they don't take offense. It's on the street with the stripper bars. The waitresses are efficient, ask them for sweetener, more coffee or whatever you lack. They're friendly and they are like the old yankees, they leave you alone unless you talk to them. It's a good place to go late night but call to see what their hours are.

The last time I was at the Seaplane, I walked out because it appeared dirty to me. I have not been back since.

  • Mark S.

I love the Seaplane, solid food and reasonable prices. Plus they're open till like 5 am on weekends. I usually get the Seaplane special which is eggs, corned beef hash, home fries and toast. The french toast is solid too. It's an unpretentious diner with good diner food. If you're looking for some fancy shmancy dish with a mango chutney demi glaze you won't find it here. Staff is very friendly and the service is great.

Horrible music. Not a good atmosphere and the food is mediocre.

  • Annie S.

I use to go here all the time, but have since been way to tired late night (After getting out of work). However I have to say I'll be back soon. Food is good (not sure that I'd complain though about anything at the hour I'm usually in there) the Hollindaise is really awesome. But what I really love is the staff, they remember us every time we come in and often times stay open a bit later just to accommodate us. They really are great people and keep there calm when dealing with a bunch of drunks (a very difficult task!).

Great breakfast. The ingredients were fresh. The fruit cup was so fresh. I had a western omelet and my husband had stuffed French toast. Food was great and the atmosphere was fun.

I love diner food! And I don't think anything comes close to this little gem. Although this review is a little biased, (I've only ever gone here for breakfast) still, I plan on going for lunch and a late night dinner soon. My boyfriend and I love their breakfast. For under ten bucks order the hungry man's special. This comes complete with eggs, any way you want them, bacon or sausage, home fries, toast, and thee flap jacks the size of your head! If you workout vigorously in the morning, treat yourself to some damn good breakfast! If you think you've got what it takes to finish it all! Seriously, It's a lot of food. The service is fast and always friendly. You can tell they have regulars. The only downside is that It's a tiny diner! It gets cramped pretty quickly and you have to wait by the door for a table. Nevertheless, if you're a morning person who's looking for a deal and a full stomach, you've met your breakfast mate.

The hidden gem of diners! Being new to town the fiancé and I had to follow the GPS prompts to Seaplane. We're from Philly so we've seen a couple of shady areas but I did get a bit nervous as the GPS led us through a couple of dingy streets and abandoned looking buildings. We found Seaplane between a bunch of strip--*ahem* gentlemen's clubs. I LOVE the Seaplane Diner. The cooks easily accommodate the fiancé's complicated, picky, and weird requests (Annoying! I just tell him to shut up, nut up and eat his breakfast burrito.) Nevertheless, he enjoys the food as well. The oreo pancakes and the french toast are scrumdiddlyumptious. Waitress Roberta is a total sweetheart and she seems to know and like everyone there. It can get a little loud in there but the majority seem to be regulars and really nice. They get busy on the weekend so we like to go during the week. However, I wake up really late & then I take about 2 hours to look presentable so it's not easy for me to make it in time to enjoy the Seaplane Diner.

Solid. That's probably the best description I can give for this place, which claims to be nothing more than it is and delivers exactly as it promises. It's your classic diner, replete with dining table jukebox. Very reasonable prices and good service. Had the Hungryman Special for breakfast (served til 1130, we got our order in at 1125); $5.95 for 4 butter toast halves, 2 full-sized fluffy pancakes (choice of banana, chocolate, or blueberry), 3 eggs, 3 links of sausage (choice of breakfast vs linguica), and home fries. A solid meal. Very filling. Pancakes were done well, moist and fluffy. Blueberries were fresh, not frozen. Home fries had a nice skillet crust. Linguica was spicy sweet. Coffee was refilled as needed and our waitress offered to provide separate checks for our table of 3. Very courteous and attentive, at least more than I expected to get at an old-world diner type establishment. All in all a good morning had here.

  • Natalie W.

Excellent food, really cheap prices. They served me breakfast even though I came in during lunch hours. My waitress was sweet and seemed to know everyone who came in by name. I had 2 eggs, 2 huge pancakes, cinnamon raisin toast, 3 sausage and homefries for 5.95. My husband had a side of coleslaw, clam chowder, and oj. Our total bill was $12.03 and we were in and out of there in less than 20 minutes, but I didn't feel rushed one bit.

I was all set to get pissy about this place when the only vegetarian options for lunch were the eggplant parmesan sandwich and a grilled cheese, and they said they couldn't do omlettes for us because the griddle was too crowded. And then my husband and I ordered two eggplant parmesan sandwiches and were instantly in heaven. They were easily the best I've ever had in my life, or at least the best I've had since Mama Falco's in Chicago closed (I used to go there all the time). It was so good that I wanted Chicago-style giardiniera with it, but made do with a few banana pepper rings. We also tried the french fries and the pasta salad as sides, and both were delicious. I was surprised at the quality of the pasta salad, which wasn't mushy or swimming in dressing, and which had some really nice vegetables with it. Service was speedy and with a smile, and even after sharing our lunches with our son, we still had leftovers. We've been back a couple of times, and we got the chance to sample the excellent fish & chips for a Friday lunch, and came once for Sunday breakfast and loved the stuffed French toast with fruit.

A classic Rhode Island style breakfast diner! Plenty of breakfast and lunch specials, you can't go wrong. We tried the pumpkin pancakes, bacon, and home fries, they were all delicious. Friendly and fast service and you can't beat their prices, well worth a visit!

This is our Saturday morning starting pad. just a great place to have a quick breakfast. The servers are way great, attentive, friendly, very well mannered, everything you could want in a server for a diner.

  • JP D.

The only reason I am giving this place 3 stars is because of the service and the food. First we sat at the bar, near the register the place was PACKED at 10 AM on a Thursday morning. Some people left a 4 top the server cleaned it off and asked us if we wanted to move. Of course we did. Our server was great, attentive, friendly, well mannered, everything you could want in a server for a diner. I had egg, cheese, bacon on a bagel - divine, just like I used to get in NY. The only issue I have is cleanliness. Our table was wiped down with a disgusting rag... the table was left wet, there was junk, trash, food on the floor.... I know it is a small, hole in the wall, old diner.. but I cannot deal with the filth, I can't go back, I'm sorry!!

  • Susan A.

As a lifelong RIer, I've eaten in my fair share of diners and can remember when they weren't the rarity they've become. The Seaplane has great ambiance and the prices are decent but on the two Sunday mornings I went, the service wasn't up to par. The place wasn't overly crowded either time, yet no one came to offer refills on coffee and we had to snag our own creamers from another table. Sweeteners other than sugar are apparently hidden behind the counter so you have to ask for some when you place your order. The second time we went, I had the cranberry and walnuts pancakes $5.95 and was disappointed when all I got was 2 regular pancakes with a few cranberries and walnuts sprinkled across the top.

This is the real deal. I am so glad it exists! Not the prettiest neighborhood but its a diner not a french restaurant so you have to cut it some slack. The palce is a classic and should be visited. Yummy greasy food!!!

The Sea-Plane Diner is kitschy fantabulosisness. Open late. Get the coffee roll, grilled with extra butter (it always has extra butter by the way). It will melt your impending hangover away directly. The real bonus is you get to hobknob with the strip joint set. Soooooo fun! I'm serious.
