quite, warm, accommodating, nice view, the drink is great, it is a bar but quite, and it is perfect for sitting and talking.

I have to echo many other yelpers' sentiments about the Rooftop at the Providence G. I was definitely disappointed. There is certainly a strangeness that surrounds the bar, which begins when you're greeted outside the building by a dude smoking a cigarette who asks for your ID. Inside is your first hostess who seems to be there mostly to stand next to a sign that states the dress-code of the bar. Yeek, a dress code! I don't make a habit of going to bars wearing sweatpants or dresses with cutouts in them, but I'm just not sure that this is necessary. When you take the elevator up to the rooftop, there is another hostess stand. Unfortunately, there was no hostess there this time, so my friends and I waited around for a couple of minutes, but no one ever greeted us. We decided to take a look around, and when there were plenty of open tables, we seated ourselves. Without getting into too much detail, we were there for about an hour, most of which was spent waiting (for menus, for drinks, for the check, for the check to come back with our credit cards). The drinks were not very good and were very expensive, and the overall atmosphere just wasn't very exciting. The view was great, of course, but there is only so far that this can carry a business. I understand that this is a brand new establishment and that it is in the process of finding its identity, so hopefully the management at the Rooftop G will take to heart all of the constructive feedback and create a kick-ass bar with great service, great drinks, and a great attitude. Providence is a little city with big character, and while it will never be New York, what makes it so special is that it never tries to be New York. I'm afraid that this bar tries to assign characteristics to a Providence bar that just don't belong here.

The reviews are mixed, I assume, because of what you're anticipating when you come here. It is not cheap. It is not a crazy party place. Did I mention, it is not cheap? Buut, if what you're looking for is a place to dress cute and have a cocktail while splurging on slightly overpriced appetizers while you over look the city and feel posh...then this is the place for you! I, personally, love doing that and will pay the difference when I'm in need of that vibe. Sometimes you just want to be in a certain ambience and when the mood is right, the Providence G is the place to be. It is a little pricey but the vibe is amazing. It's unique to the city and the place is simply gorgeous. If the weather is nice and you're feeling hot and want to bask in the fresh air with the beautiful people, give it a shot!

The ambiance is quite nice and the views are great also. However, the mixed drink I ordered (Rob Roy) was average or a little less than average, but, even worse, served in plastic drinkware. The beer my friend ordered similarly was served in plastic, but, even worse, the plastic was warm, as though it had just come out of the dishwasher. Who serves beer in a warm (plastic) "glass"?? This place could be much more classy if they could just serve their drinks the right way.

Such a great find in Providence! We had oysters, ahi tuna and champagne over looking the city. We will be back!

2 stars for ambiance it is absolutely beautiful out here! However, food was not good at all - very plain, odd menu, VERY small portions just not good at all. Service was ok. I would come for a drink but that's it - choose elsewhere for dinner. Even the pizza was subpar, had no flavor.

I didn't think the views were that great, prices were high and the elevator ride was awkward. I won't be back.

42 dollars for a pitcher of white sangria that tastes more like water than wine. Good location but you're paying for real estate. Without new management I don't see this place going anywhere.

  • Donnie H.

The service was awful, beers were overpriced and the view wasn't even good! Didn't get served for at least 10 minutes. I like the idea of it, but I don't think it's worth waiting in line for.

I almost strayed away from even trying this place because of some of the other reviews here, but I'm glad I went with my explorative gut and gave it a shot. After a short elevator line, you'll quickly find yourself in a manhattan-esq roofbar with a gorgeous view of the Biltmore, Weybosset, and the Financial district. Though, if you're like me, the real charm is the open air view of the sky above. Pricewise, it was what to be expected for you liquor fans (12 dollars for a screwdriver), but the beer prices were no higher than that of your average TGI Fridays (6 dollar 'Gansett Del's Shandy). Have a beer or two at home before if you want to save some money on a night out. We didn't delve into the food menu or table seating, so I cant speak to any of that side yet. First experience for me involved a group of us grabbing our drinks, scoring a couch in the corner, and enjoying the crisp, highrise breeze. Good friends, good view, and worth the extra dollar. Will update when I get a chance to head there for the food.

I'm sorry for taking so long to write a fabulous review about rooftop. The music, the drinks, the view, the breeze, I wish I was there right now. Had a dozen people there for my birthday for a little low-key fun and again I was satisfied. I try to visit a place 3 times before reviewing it, but I've got to show them some love after two. Oh, and whatever magical creature invented the aqueduct, to you...I'm grateful. I don't normally do gin, but damn! Well, this has been long winded enough, join us next time! Later.

The location is beautiful. I just wish they would accept that this is Providence, not New York City. The mixed drinks on the drink menu were 14 dollars. The regular mixed drinks were 12. The cheapest glass of wine was 9. The drinks weren't good enough to charge 14 dollars. The staff was really friendly and if they lower their prices to be comparable with other places in Providence, I would definitely be back.

I recommend staying far far away from the rooftop bar unless you like to overpay and get atrocious service.

Awesome atmosphere, roof top in providence. Lil up scale nice drink specials and great food lil more on the expensive side. Low on the ipa selection, which i am not a fan of. But for the most part an awesome place to take a date on a beautiful nite.

Beautiful atmosphere. Great food and drinks. Our server was Mike and he was wonderful. The reason for 3 stars is the prices and there are not many choices on the menu for someone like my sister in law that I was with that does not eat seafood. We walked away hungry but went downstairs to g pub and it was great.

I have been to the Rooftop @ Gpub once and I feel compelled to leave a review. I am leaving 5 stars because my friend and I had a 5 star experience. After reading some of the other reviews I will definitely have to go back on a different night and compare.. That said. We went on a Monday night at 6pm. Walked in on the ground floor and was greeted by a smiling woman who directed us to the elevators. Elevators were prompt and clean - nice start! We arrived on the roof and it was as if we were walking out onto a bar that is NOT in Providence. I love my Providence but it really was way more than I expected! A large, new, posh, elegant rooftop that boasted a nice large bar, plenty of comfortable seating and a VERY IMPRESSIVE retractable roof that opens and closes depending on the weather. We really wanted to sit at the bar but it was full so we walked around looking at the area then stood at the end of the bar where we were greeted immediately by bartender LA (Lori-Ann) - she was warm and pleasant. We told her we really wanted to sit at the bar and she told us she would keep an eye out for a space and let us know. She offered to get drinks started for us. My companion decided on a martini, as did I. I wanted cucumber vodka, which they did not have. LA offered to muddle me fresh cucumber and infuse vodka for me to make my drink. With how busy the bar area was - I was impressed! As soon as she started making the drinks a spot opened up and we sat. We had a perfect view of the city, it was a nice 78 degrees, and the sun was starting to go down lighting up the rooftop and warming our faces. Our drinks were 100% perfect! My cucumber martini was better than any actual cucumber vodka I've tried - LA truly knows what she is doing! And my companion ordered a vodka gimlet - which was perfect. If I had any complaints it would be that all of their glassware wasn't glass.. It was plastic.. Which was a turn off for me. I enjoy drinking expensive vodka out of a glass, not plastic. I just felt this was in poor taste for being such a nice place to grab a drink. . We also loved the other friendly staff members at the rooftop - Emmi was the hostess and she loved chatting with us as we were sitting near where she was working - she was so lovely and personable! Also, James was another bartender that was just great! It was DEFINITELY a great place to go get an afternoon cocktail or a nightcap - I will go back without a doubt! Maybe next time I go I'll mention the plastic glass situation and see if I can get anywhere. Enjoy!

Enter from Dorrance street and go to the elevator on the left. Sat at the bar, seats were comfortable, music was bumping and the sun was shining.

Room for improvement. This place has such great ambiance. But no pizza - that's right they ran out of pizza. Always over prep!! Especially during graduation weekend in providence. We are a party of 4 and now we are off to another restaurant. Too bad. Work harder G you can do it!!

  • Todd M.

So as others stated great set up, beautiful views and nice design. Has plenty of potential just needs sometime I think. We only had drinks so can't give a review of how it is. It is a little weird that u have to take the elevator and they only have one in use this night. So hope u like the people u ride with because they pack them in. Got to the top and the bar was packed so the hostess said we would probably get better and faster service at a table. Well that didn't work in fact it was slower. We saw people we rode up with having there drinks already before our waitress brought ours. The bathrooms could have been a little cleaner as there was paper towels all on the floor and the trash can was full.

What a little gem in downtown providence. Atmosphere was lovely and layout was beautiful. Went for dinner last night I would have given 4-5 stars just based on food alone. We had the brick chicken (dish to share) and it was delicious and beautifully presented, as well as the field green salad. However, the chicken took almost 40 minutes to come out but it was very good. The downside is while the drink menu looks impressive, drinks are expensive and watered down. My Sangria was $12 and all fruit juice... And was missing most of the garnishes listed on the menu. I orders another special drink for $14... Was very weak. We asked for bread and was told they ran out? Add limited restrooms and one cramped elevator... Also downsides. This restaurant is new and coming into its own... We will try it again but no drinks next time.

Went on a gorgeous Thursday evening. No wait time, and we were seated right away. There seem to be a lot of comments about people having bad service - that said, the night we went they were training new staff. Staff seemed attentive and the food/drink came out rather quickly. Drink list was fine. Nothing to write home about. We were really impressed by the food. My date had the pizza. I had fried quail. So delicious! Best view in Providence!

UGHHHH first rooftop in Providence and they are a complete fail ! First of all, Drinks are extremely overpriced! Now I wouldn't mind paying premium to be on the only rooftop bar in providence if my bartenders promptly waited on me, were friendly, actually knew what they were doing, and if hey I was served a drink in a glass cup! But you will get none of that at the rooftop bar! Second, I'm not sure if they are going for a restaurant or bar. I feel like the music should always be a little louder, because their is no background music setting the atmosphere. It's just an all around disappointment, that has so much potential! Maybe next year :/

Nasty service! I was invited to my cousins ENGAGEMENT party. The location was "G Providence" rooftop... Me and my sister got there a little late, literally 5 min! And this blonde chick at the front looked at us with a totally unprofessional look on her face almost looked like "yeah I had a bad day so I'm taking it out on you" kind of look and wouldn't let us in... It was just 3 people .. And it was an engagement party! So she literally had a WHOLE engagement party move downstairs because she wouldn't let us in... I understand the rules and stuff... But do you really have to have that disgusting look on that face? Really? NEVER coming here again! Bad customer service! Awful girl didn't even have a name tag... I mean seriously . get a tampon...

I just came back from the Rooftop and felt compelled to share my experience. To start with the positive, I will say that the place is really nice as far as decor and location goes. Everything looks clean and orderly and you can't beat the view! Now for my experience: I arrived here roughly around 1245PM on my hour lunch. I sat down at the bar and was greeted by the bartender. She asked if I knew what I wanted to drink or if I needed a menu. I let her know what I wanted and she then handed me the food menu. The selections were OK, nothing that really stood out. I decided on the burger since I was limited on time and felt this would be the quickest meal. I ordered a burger to be cooked Medium around 1255PM. After waiting around 15 minutes and drinking 2 rounds of drinks, I asked my bartender where my food was. She looked over to the kitchen to see if my food was ready; it was not. After a few more minutes, I see burgers being delivered to other tables that hard arrived way after I had gotten there. Another couple of minutes pass and my bartender comes back and tells me that "they're putting it on the plate now." Around 133PM I end up getting my burger. Being pressed for time, I asked my bartender for a box to take my food home without even trying it. BIG MISTAKE. When I got back into work, I take a bite of my burger. The amount of BLOOD and GREASE that came dripping out was absolutely disgusting. Needless to say, I did not even finish the bite. Not only was my service unacceptably slow, but my food was inedible. I called and spoke to the manager, Mike and explained the situation and let him know how displeased I was with the service. He let me know he would investigate the incident and that he would call me back. I've yet to hear back. I was REALLY hoping my experience would have been a positive one as I had been anticipating this place for a while now but unfortunately, my expectations fell short. ----- UPDATE---- I ended up going to Rooftop to speak to the manager personally as I had never heard back from them. I was told they had begun processing a full refund and to expect it in a couple of days. Although that is a great resolve and it made me switch from 1 to 2 stars, a follow up call would have been nice. I would have avoided taking a trip down.

I am so dissapointed with this place. This is towards the faboulous "rooftop" that just opened. Great atmosphere and ambiance . However sit at the bar if you actually want great service because our server Brooke did a terrible job. We waited over 15 minutes to order. We actually had to keep getting up to ask the host and other servers to find her. Didn't offer us bread another server did. Didn't give us utensils or side plates. We had to steal it from another table. Never asked how everything is. kept chewing on food and walking away while tlking to us. This place was no where near packed. She was no where to be found the whole goddamn time. What a waste of money. The drinks we're medicore and way to expensive. If you actually want quality drinks that cost that much. There's the Dorrance the eddy, Circe,. The food was medicore not worth it at all! My God What a waste of money for $13 watered down sangria. Whats the point of a fabulous view with midcore food, drinks anf service. Seriously make your way down to there other spot the GPub which is 10X better!

The scenery is very nice and the wait staff were as well. However this is basically a bar that serves food. The menu is very limited and a bit over priced. What we did eat was tasty but the portions are small - granted they are "small plates."

Love love love this place. Had been wanting to go for a while, as we go to rooftop bars all around the country (and to a lesser extent, world) whenever we travel. This place isn't the best for views - but it is SO NICE to be outside in Providence. Options like this are so limited. The food is okay. We had a grilled pizza (it was good enough to order again) and some very crave able dates or figs wrapped in Serrano ham with bleu cheese. Yum. The cocktails are fine. Tough to keep them cold in plastic glasses (which they have to have - but nicest plastic glasses possible). The beer and wine are limited. I especially wish they had more beers on tap (only had Stella) for my beer loving husband and friends. The ambiance, however, is so beautiful. Very thoughtful. Upscale. Details like comfy seating and bar hooks for purses. Dressier crowd. I was most impressed with the retractable roof! Seriously - we don't see stuff like this too often in Providence. I hope they have some space heaters in the winter so we can go year round. I cannot wait to go back. My favorite spot in Providence and held its own with the many rooftops I've enjoyed in places like San Diego, Rome, Vegas, etc. Well done! See you soon!!!

The views of providence and decor of the restaurant were fantastic!!Trendy, cute patio furniture, great outside bar. I would come back but probably for just drinks. Menu is very limited. I went there with a girlfriend of mine to catch up and good thing I didn't go with my husband. The menu options were lacking for someone who is a chicken and steak type of guy. I ordered a salad and my friend ordered a lobster blt. Both were good but again I would like more options on the menu like the sister restaurant gpub. Service was mediocre but the views of providence are stunning!!!!!!

Well...I'm not going to lie, the location is gorgeous. The view of the city skyline is unrivaled from what I've seen thus far. The set up and tables and bar are stunning as well. That being said...the menu is a bit overpriced in my opinion and is very limited, choices are lacking. I was shocked that such an elegant location was serving wine in stemless...plastic...wine glasses. At first I thought they were concerned about people dropping the glass but that didn't make sense. I honestly can't come up with an explanation for it but it shocked and disappointed me.

Providence G, a great addition to the Providence scene I had drinks and dinner ate the Providence G this saturday. As everyone else has said, what a great location and view. The menu has interesting food and it was well prepared. Our table had a great tomato salid, a clam dish do die for and a pizza that was crisp and delicious. Service was top notch even thought the place was crowded (actually a good sign) on this saturday night. I will return. BTW, I stopped down to the new G Pub after dinner just for a look. It looks another winner.

Beautiful views, delicious food, pricey drinks, and bad service. I'm rooting for these guys to up their service game and lower their drink prices. The pizza oven is working now and did not disappoint, although the lobster BLT was basically a bowl of chowder with floppy bacon 2 huge croutons floating in wet lettuce. However the Burger was tasty enough that I might go back just for that! Our server was unattentive. For example, our food came out and we still didn't have silverware. I walked over to a table that was being reserved to take utensils for my table and was scolded by a different waitress who informed me she would get silverware for us from the back. She could have let me take the silverwear and replace it with whatever she was getting from the back, but that was typical of my service experience there- focusing on the process and not the people. I witnessed another table get their food before the had utensils to eat it with too. It was getting busy by the time we left around 8:30pm, but there seemed to be plenty of wait staff available, just not focusing on the customers. Disappointing.

I really was looking forward to a rooftop bar in Providence but the G fell short of my expectations. From waiting in a line to take an elevator to the top to the wait just to get a drink, I was truly disappointed. I spent more time waiting than socializing, drinking etc. When I finally placed a drink order for a red sangria, I noticed they use cheap wine you can buy at a local liquor store (3 for 10 deals)and charged quite a bit. If I'm not mistaken it was Rex Goliath. The bartenders were slow. By the time I actually got the drink it was last call. Mind you there was another bar on the side that wasn't even being utilized. After rounding up my friends, we then waited 30 minutes to get down the elevator because there was a line and the staircase exits were blocked. Talk about a fire hazard. Great concept, poor execution. Definitely not the G spot of Providence.

Myself and 4 friends arrived at the Rooftop at around 9:30 PM on a Wednesday. There were a reasonable amount of guests at the restaurant but still a few open tables here and there. The place wasn't packed and shouldn't have been hard for the staff to keep up with. When our waitress came to the table we ordered one pitcher of red sangria. Upon taking our first sips, we had the unfortunate realization that the sangria was incredibly watered down due to the disproportionately large amount of ice filling the pitcher. When the waitress came back around (at 9:45ish) we decided to order a pizza, some fries, and another pitcher sangria- this time white. We requested that the sangria be less watered down and more alcoholic. She responded by saying that she couldn't do anything about that. Despite this, we still attempted to give them the benefit of the doubt - perhaps the red sangria was just a bad batch that day? The server brought the white sangria out shortly thereafter. Unfortunately this one wasn't any better than the red. About 40 minutes passed and we decided that it was time to flag down the server as the presence of our food hadn't graced the table yet. At this point in the evening she informed us that the kitchen had closed and that we would not be getting our fries. This is how that conversation went (imagine a somewhat ditzy and 'over it' tone from the waitress): My friend: "We're just wondering if you could check on our pizza and bowl of fries?" Waitress: "The kitchen is closed...and the fries actually come in a basket. Not a bowl." My friend: "Okay...so no pizza or fries?" Waitress: "No, the pizza is coming. The oven is still on. Don't worry, you wont be charged for the fries" You'd think that if the kitchen were closed while we were placing our order, the server would be courteous enough to inform us. Clearly proper etiquette was not this server's forte. On top of the poor service, the pizza was not very good. Bland and poorly seasoned. After a long wait and a few frustrating interactions, we asked for the check. Upon receiving the check, we were reminded that each sangria was priced at $38 and the pizza at $12, leaving our bill at a whopping $92. We deemed this unacceptable and called a manager over. When he arrived at the table, he explained that it was his sangria recipe and insisted that there was a whole bottle of wine, a couple shots of triple sec, and a few other liquors in each pitcher (we deemed this physically impossible given the amount of ice in each pitcher). We explained our dissatisfaction with the drinks and service. After we refused a free round of drinks, he eventually caved and ended up taking one of the pitchers of sangria and the pizza off the bill leaving us at $38. Though we were appreciative of the gesture and were allowed to pay what we thought the evening was worth, we still had a bad dining experience. Rooftop's best qualities are the location and views. The decor is mostly on point and the teak tables and chairs are nice but there are a few things about it (cheap/fake crystal chandeliers) that suggest the place is trying to pose as an upscale establishment, which it is definitely not. Overall, the Providence G building looks a little cheap on the exterior and parts of the interior, though a good dining experience would have enabled me to forget about that. Like many of the other reviewers on this page, I too wanted to like Rooftop @ Providence G. Unfortunately, Its very hard for me to like this place after the poor service and the worse than mediocre drinks that we experienced the other night. If the restaurant were to get their act together and hire a good head chef+beverage coordinator, this place could be great. The city has plenty of other great bars and restaurants. I recommend checking those out instead of spending your money here. As it stands right now, I will not be returning.

Why are the drinks so overpriced.. This is Providence not Manhattan.. I hang out in better cities at better rooftop bars all the time.. Try better service, better crowds then maybe those prices can fly there.. Good luck, i will never go back there. Thumbs down.

I have been here three times so far. There is a great atmosphere and beautiful view! I recommend this place for drinks, but NOT FOR FOOD! It is really fun to have drinks here and hang out with friends, as the environment is great. There is plenty of sitting space, therefore leaving you comfortable and not feeling over crowded. The drinks, however, are very watered down. Not great for the prices! Unfortunately the food is terrible. I ate here last weekend for a friend's birthday- party of 12. I ordered a margherita pizza. It tasted like smashed tomatoes spread on dough; absolutely no seasoning! I could hardly eat it. Only 1 person out of the 12 enjoyed their meal, which was a burger. We were all so hungry that we actually left after we ate and got tapas elsewhere instead of staying for drinks!! The service is also extremely slow. I know it was busy, but we waited about an hour for our food to come out.

We were there last night for the first time and our review is mixed. The help was friendly and helpful. We ask for a Chardonnay that looked like a lemonade and tasted like water. The waitress kindly took it back and replaced it with another that tasted better. My Nicolas merlot was not much better but I drank it. The setting and location was good but not a real good view of anything significant. Why they are charging New York prices in Providence is beyond me?

Great atmosphere! ..drinks way over priced and service is just ok. Wasn't too impressed but great spot to meet for a drink after work. Older crowd too, 27 was probably the youngest age group there.

This was the roof top bar experience I always wanted to find in NYC. Not packed. Gorgeous view. One complaint was the the drinks were NYC prices. But I would go back definitely for another try. We had appetizers and they were decent. Not sure how a full meal would be here.

The garden-like terrace ambiance is one that makes a summer night quite perfect. This little "hideaway" is not really little but it is designed to make you feel that you have privacy in some areas without feeling alone. Regarding the food, I was pleased to try the eggplant, arugula, and kale pizza which was excellent. The crust was light and very tasty - almost like a focaccia herbed bread flavor. My husband really enjoyed the burger with the mushroom fricassee and vidalia onion spread. I tasted some of his and it was moist and flavorful as were the accompanying fries. My one suggestion is that the pizza and salad menus should be expanded. Our lovely waitress, Meredith, was friendly, prompt, and accommodating, making the experience even more pleasant. And, should you have any concerns, the manager was there to handle them with kindness and care. We shall return. It was a nice night!

What a nice rooftop bar and restaurant in Downcity! Comfortable furniture and coffee tables. Great service by Mike S. Beautiful sunset. A fine collection of fresh oysters. Margarita pizza with a crisp crust and some nice chewiness, and good Margarita flavor. Cold beer on tap. French Chardonnay. I like it!

If your in the mood for crappy food and cheap drinks...stay on the ground. If you want to class it up with a fantastic martini and delicious food then shoot on up to the rooftop.

I really want to give this place more than 3 stars because a bar above Providence is very unique and the atmosphere, decor, and service is worthy of 5 stars. However, I'm sorry, but the menu sucks. The quality of the food is not worthy of the location it represents, and there's barely any beers on tap.

If you think drinking on a roof is fun (and I do), then I recommend it. The bartenders were great - really friendly and knowledgeable. The beer list was limited, but the drink list was fun. Be prepared to spend for the novelty though - $14 mixed drinks add up for a potentially expensive night.

Great outdoor spot in the Providence G building downcity. Just 1 elevator to the bar so be prepared to cram in. Drinks expensive. A white sangria pitcher was $38.00. Be prepared for expensive drinks. And service was so so at best. Nice atmosphere that's about it.

Holy cow? Lobster BLT at a reasonable price, yes please. The avocado didn't pair well with the dish though, perhaps the texture of the lobster didn't really go together, but the corn broth and fresh tomato and crispy bacon and tomatoes were delish . My friends all got really grand cocktails, they loved them all, very pricey for sure. But the outdoor atmosphere can't be beat! So relaxing.....service little slow and it wasn't busy. But still we were all happy!

Finally!! Providence has an upscale gorgeous rooftop bar and lounge environment to enjoy! I have been a few times at different times of day and each experience was great! Because the rooftop is a new concept in RI it seems to be pretty busy these days, but the service teams have always done their best in my opinion to not only accommodate, but also exceed expectations. In July a friend had a birthday party for her sister and the management team as well as our waitress kept our party (on a busy Friday night I might add) with appetizers on the tables, and drinks in our hands. We had a champagne toast, brought a big beautiful personalized cake which they took care of when it was delivered to the restaurant, brought it out to the table, and of course handles the plating. The entire party was pleased with both the food and service we received, and the view and atmosphere are like non other in the state. Glad to have a great spot like this as my new go to!

watered down expensive drinks (Ciroc and sprite, you could barely taste any alcohol and its in a short glass.....a bunch of people who just go because its new & think they have money, i hate the whole elevator concept. maybe if they had another elevator taht would free your wait time up. ill be surprized if this place last another year or two

I find it hard to write a review for this place. I went with a party of 6 and more than half of us were disappointed. Except of course the view which is just beautiful! I enjoyed my very very overpriced cocktail $14! The drink "The Aquaduct" was tasty but I've had equally as good for under $10. I have never paid that much for a cocktail in Manhattan or Brooklyn and the view was equally spectacular if not more so. I had a very tasty burger and fries that was fine for the $14 price. My friends were disappointed in their drinks and meals. The "deconstructed" lobster BLT didn't win any fans not only for the high price but for the tiny portion. Service was very good with the waitress trying her best to accommodate our every expanding dinner guests. I agree the bathrooms are in short supply. We all had to wait too long to use any of them and the rooftop wasn't even filled yet. Because of the price I can't imagine going back unless I stick to beer which is reasonable priced. Maybe they could try having drink specials on certain nights.

quite, warm, accommodating, nice view, the drink is great, it is a bar but quite, and it is perfect for sitting and talking.

It looks like this place had a few hiccups last year when they first opened, but we visited for the first time during their soft open at the beginning of May this year, and everything was just fantastic. Since it was a soft opening, they only had the pizzas and the raw bar from the menu. We tried the pizza of the day, which had some kind of creamy sauce, arugula and something else that I can't recall now. It was so good, we ordered two more (they're kind of small, but we can also eat a lot). The service was great--our server was friendly and kept a good eye on us without being intrusive. It was busy when we went, but not packed--Saturday afternoon, and it started to get a little cold after the sun started setting. I imagine in the summer months, this place will be busy all the time. There were no tap beers when we were there, but I'm not sure if that is due to the soft opening, or if that's standard. What they had in cans was a good variety though, so no complaints on that. I can imagine that once this place is at capacity, the bathrooms and the elevator will become pretty big inconveniences. There are three bathrooms, and they're all single seat unisex. It's nice to be able to use any bathroom, and it's nice to have privacy, but when we were there and the place was only half full, there was still a bit of waiting. Ditto on the elevator--there is only one of those, and it's not very big. Those are the only drawback as I see them. The space itself is expansive and lovely, and the breeze and views can't be beat. Plus, that pizza, I'm still thinking about it...

Had no idea this existed. First visit, didn't try any food but had a great drink :) The food sounded good. Going back on a warm night for sure. Great for groups. Check it out, enjoy the view!

Double Posted Review for GPUB as well: Waltzed right into the lobby of the Providence G, and was directed to the elevator that takes you to the rooftop....as soon as the pearly gates of the "transformation destination" elevator opened on the top floor....I was super excited. Its is effing beautiful up there....honestly. The open kitchen, sofa placements, the decor...its pretty mind blowing for a place in Providence. Im heated at myself for never accepting an invitation last year when one was always extended. It was pretty busy last night, the waitress informed us that it was their first opening of the season and that they weren't expecting quite as many people. Me and my girl seated ourselves and waited patiently for our others to get there. we were sitting there for about 15-20minutes without being greeted at all which honestly was ok because it was 70 degrees out and starry..... I was honestly content. After I was done flirting (with my eyes) with the cute suited man across from me, we found out the others in our crew were actually downstairs at the actual GPUB. It was also beautiful there. The bartender that was on last night was knowledgeable and charismatic....cool guy eventually we ventured back up stairs to finish out the night James Bond style with a secret carefully crafted cocktail (that I made up myself)... All in all it was a great night. Will be returning, will need to review the food. it looks awesome.

Told we could not have the table we wanted because it was on hold for the Manager's friend after waiting for an hour to be seated. Don't waste your money. Id rather sit on the sidewalk at any other bar then waste a penny at this pretentious place. The food is lousy as hell too!

Went with a group of friends before heading over to the water fire event. Water fire event was terrific! Roof deck is one of the best I've been to. Great atmosphere, nice sitting area, great bar, friendly staff. Frankly, the place rivals any roof top bar in Boston, NYC, Miami, etc. Food was extremely good, reasonably priced, hot when served, etc. What a great find!

This place has it all. Good food, good service and a beautiful view. The chowder, margarita pizza and red tequila sangria were amazing. Would come back for sure. All the staff were very friendly and made our stay very enjoyable. The pizza was to die for. I could eat it everyday if my wallet and waistband would allow.

I felt I needed to update my review and denote a couple stars from my last experience here. I came here a second time a couple of weekends ago to meet friends. Excited to go again after the first experience I was soon to find this place really isn't so great. We arrived at 1030 to a line in the downstairs lobby. Okay it must be super packed like it was the first time we came. My friends were at the front of the line already waiting for the elevator and asked the girl at the host stand if it would be okay if we waited with them she said "no". Okay I get it no biggie she doesn't want us to look like we're cutting. So we will wait longer while our friends enjoy their time upstairs. Hmm no less than a minute later some people walk in to meet their friends smack dab in front of us and decide to join the group. Girl at host stands sees this happen, says, nothing. Cool. So now we're an extra 4 people back from where we should have been. At this point time is passing and people are sick of waiting and the line is getting smaller and g pub is losing business. Elevators with handfuls of people come down but we still aren't going up, wow it must be REALLY packed. After much debate of leaving, (it's now almost 11 and they close at 12 ) we finally get to the front of the elevator line. Okay things are starting to look up , its sure to be happening spot and we will have a good time to make up for the wait. We arrive to the rooftop, walk in, DEAD. There's literally hardly anyone here. Not ANYWHERE close to the crowd the first night we came. Needless to say we left after one drink because it was so boring. Not even any music. Lame. Based on this last experience, this place is not worth my time, especially when it's spent waiting in a line for no reason. Step your game up Providence.

The view from the roof top is great. But the number of tables and seating is extremely limited. They had some cozy couches, but we were told they were reserved. However, they were empty most of the night. There are only 6 tables for dining, which we wish we would have known beforehand. They told us it was a 30 minute wait, but an hour and a half later, we were not seated. I would not recommend dining there.

Great place. Awesome views. Very well put together bar area. I was very impressed with the atmosphere. And the food was very good. All tapas style and they have a pizza oven outside.

My husband and BFF planned a gathering for my 40th birthday. I had been wanting to check it out, but just hadn't gotten there yet. Great first experience. There were 10 of us at a reserved table with comfortable couches and great views. We all arrived at different times, and the waitress noticed each new couple and came right over for drink orders. She stayed on top of all of the drinks and the food orders as they came in. The tequila sangria was so good! The apps and pizzas were really tasty, too (we practically tried them all between us). I'll definitely be back soon.

This is a pretty cool place. Interesting outdoor atmosphere. And they have Harpoon UFO so that made me happy. Our waitress was very nice. We just had drinks here so can't comment on the food. A cool addition to the bar scene.

Yikes... how can such a fantastic location produce such terrible everything. From the drinks to the clientele... whoa. I have been here twice, both times it was a Friday night around 9pm. The first attempt at a night out here went south about 30 minutes in when my friends and I took the first sip of our martinis out of their plastic glasses. No, it didn't take 30 minutes for us to decide what to order or to stare at them longingly before indulging. It took 25 minutes to get a bartender to acknowledge us and throw us some serious shade before taking our order and producing said martinis. $14 and they were actually terrible. Awful. Disgusting. We forced ourselves to drink them because they were $14 and we left. The second time I came was last Friday night at my friends' request. We decided to get a table because we were hungry and were seated pretty quickly. Then we were asked just as quickly to move by another employee who had been "saving that table." It ended up being sorted out and we stayed put but just a weird way to be greeted. I will say that our server was great. He was friendly and attentive and the exact opposite of the rest of the staff. I don't know his name but he was tall, handsome and should be taking his talents elsewhere. We ordered a margherita pizza and a pitcher of white sangria. How do you mess up sangria, you ask? I don't have the answer for you but I guarantee you the G does. Pizza? Uhhh did you just serve me a Digiorno's? No, because that would have been better than what we were actually presented with. And for these two items the bill came to $53. Yup, I typed that correctly. Location, location, location. This must be what the owners were thinking. You can have the location and they will come but you must have decent service in order to get them to keep coming back. You get one star for the view and one star for our server.

I wish I could give this more than 3 stars because I think It's a really gorgeous space without being uptight and stuffy. It's really just what we need in Providence during the warmer months - modern, relaxed and classy ON a rooftop! With that being said. .. 1.. holy expensive. A pitcher of sangria ran me $38 and it was table wine, not to mention, heavily iced (we all know what that means! Watered down! ) 2. ..ONE elevator for the entire venue. It makes for a cramped ride..... possibly, with the heavily intoxicated -_- 3.. Not enough restrooms. There are two single bathrooms on the rooftop and two inside (in the elevator lobby). Let's be real, women are going to check their makeup, yada, yada. It makes for a long wait. Infact, it was so long that I'm about to reveal to all you yelpers that I have no shame in resorting to the men's room; and I did just that! I think unisex restrooms could work well if they aren't willing or able to install more. I think I'll go back one more time before the summer is over, but with totally different expectations and maybe a Foley catheter. It will be more of a one drink place just to check out the view and soak up the ambiance.

To echo most of the other reviews, the most redeeming quality about this bar is its location. It's a really great venue with a unique view of the city (particularly at night with the city lights) and a posh feel. I was immediately enamored and excited to be there. The downfall is its service and the quality of the drinks (my friends and I didn't eat, so I can't comment on the food). It took us forever to get the bartender's attention, and we ended up waiting next to some belligerent other customers. The menu did not list drink prices, so I was a bit surprised to see our bill for three drinks came to $42, and if anything, I felt more sober after drinking mine. It tasted great, but I think it consisted of 98% pineapple juice. So, I was glad to have seen the venue, but it's not a bar I'm excited to return to.

I really liked the atmosphere. It was raining so we were confined to sit under the covering but it was still really cool. Not too happening for a Saturday night - kind of an older crowd. But still beautiful views, yummy drinks and food!

The setting is just beautiful, great looking furniture, bar, chairs, couches, etc. Great views of downtown. Nice wait staff. The cocktails and drinks are not that great. We ordered some pinot grigio and it was one of the most difficult glasses of wine I have ever drank. I talked to some people and their house made cocktails were not very good either. I guess the safest thing is to stick to bottled beer (or Stella draft - that is the only draft beer they serve) or name brand liquor. We were there around 7 pm and it was busy and kind of loud. Overall a nice atmosphere, nice setting....could improve on the drinks - especially for the price they charge.

5 stars for the ambiance. It's great to see Providence from a whole new vista. I love the design of the seating, roof, and furniture. The bartenders were nice but a little slow, and it wasn't all that crowded. 3 stars for the beer selection. They only have Stella on tap and were out of several of the other beer options. I do like that they have plastic glasses that look like real glasses - practical while still being classy. I wonder what will happen to this place as the weather turns colder... Until then I will enjoy the summertime experience.

Why are the drinks so overpriced.. This is Providence not Manhattan.. I hang out in better cities at better rooftop bars all the time.. Try better service, better crowds then maybe those prices can fly there.. Good luck, i will never go back there. Thumbs down.

What a beautiful location! Siting above PVD with a nice breeze and a cocktail is truly a new expeirence in downtown. The decor is European/Miami, unfortunately the price is too. The service is slow, very slow. I have been here twice giving them a second chance to work out the kinks, but I would not recommend eating or drinking here if you want to be served promptly. The food was delicious but it was gone in two bites, forget sharing any apps at the table. I hope they can work on the service and menu, I really would like to visit again.

Great atmosphere. That's the reason people go, especially during sunset. And keep in mind that is what you're paying for. Perfect place for drinks and appetizers. They keep the area very clean and the hosts are quick to gauge for available tables and wait times. Be forewarned, lunch, dinner, and late night vibes change drastically. I've been there for lunch, early dinner during sunset, and very often late night for drinks. If you go at night, they do hit capacity sometimes, so arrive a little earlier than 10 to not wait in line for the elevator. Most Servers were good and attentive when they weren't busy. I've had some catty servers, but the really good servers I've had make up for them since I go quite often. If I notice a bad attitude from the server, I just politely move to the bar to save myself the aggravation and ruined meal experience. So I hope people do the same and not let flustered servers ruin it. Quality of ingredients are decent. I wish they had more items on their menu, but their food is prepared fairly. I often get wine, but they do a great job with their Old Fashions. Their calamari could be seasoned better, but the olives and medley of peppers make up for it. I order it every time. Their baby octopus and pork belly dish is delicious. I would have preferred my octopus grilled a little under and the pork belly cooked a bit more (crispy outside but a bit undercooked inside) but the sauces adorning them were yummy. Jumbo Shrimp cocktails were cooked perfectly. Pizza was crispy and the cheese melted just right, but it's hit or miss sometimes with some of their pizzas. Overall food, atmosphere, and service is great for this rooftop bar.

Lunch for two. $170, including tip. Pricey. 7 cocktails. Calamari, so-so. Duck nuggets with plumb ketchup - almost recommended - needed seasoning. Chicken wings - moist and off the chart delicious. Pizza - red onion, roasted red pepper, Manchego with zucchini and chorizo - wow! Great view. Worth the price, maybe

After hearing all the hype and reading various reviews, finally had a chance to check out Rooftop @ Providence G. Unfortunately, based on my experience at the bar, I have to agree with a majority of the lackluster assessments that this place is definitely quite the disappointment. Upon arriving on the roof, I was initially impressed with the nice layout and the incredible views (I would give the ambiance and views alone 5 stars). We were lucky enough to snag some seats at the bar and took a look at the drink menu (didn't get a chance to try any of the food). Upon first glance, the drink offerings (specifically the beers) were less than appealing and ended up settling for a Cisco Wales Tale ale. Mixed drink prices were high and for the downstairs G-Pub offering so many great craft beers, I was disappointed to see a small and very standard offering of canned selections up on the roof. As I expected it was busy up there that night and the bartenders seemed to be all over the place trying to take orders, so it made it difficult at times to get the attention of ours. I really wish this place was better well put together...while the views and setting itself are great, higher than average prices, bland beer selection and service being less than stellar, I find it difficult to see myself frequenting or coming back to this bar anytime soon.

    (2)
  • Kevin S.

Portions very tiny, food is average, slightly overpriced for quality, but hey, I expected that. 3/5 Mixed drinks were light on the pour and $12/drink (people who complain about plastic; they have to for liability reasons, they don't want someone throwing a glass pint off the roof). Beer is average price/ average selection which is good. 2/5 Ambiance, decoration atmosphere, tough to beat, it's beautiful, I'll give them that. 5/5. Crowd is late 20s early 30s Conclusion: get a nicer dinner and a little drunk somewhere else downtown, then head here to have a couple beers and wind the night down.

It is my understanding that at high elevations the human body needs time to adjust to the lower oxygen content in the air. The lower oxygen content can cause fatigue and in some case cause even the simplest of tasks to be both mentally and physically challenging. Including getting a vodka tonic from a bar located 20ft from our table in under 30 minutes. Oh it was a fun time. I would like to note that our server did state that he had tables on all four corners of the roof and as I prior server I empathize with the fact that sometimes your section can play a huge role in keeping you both in the weeds & totally frustrated. The kitchen though.....the Mediterranean pizza was just plan bad. A pizza topped with roasted vegetables implies that the vegetables are in fact roasted prior to being placed on the pizza. If not, you end up with baked vegetables which are dry and totally inedible. I would have complained but really I am getting the impression that this place is struggling and that they are well aware of their short comings but either thru lack the desire or the ability to fix it. They know they have the best view in the city and so what if people just drink their calories - the real money isn't in the kitchen anyway. Just try to get your main profit center to put a drink out quickly and efficiently. Eat well Providence.....then go have a long slow drink on the roof.

I was very excited when I learned that my job would be hosting a post training cocktail hour here. I knew that drinks would be pricey since it's a roof top bar, so basically there was no way I was coming here unless someone else was footing the bill. The waitress was kind enough to tell me which one out of the Prosecco and the Moscato was less sweet (the info fails me now) and I stuck with that all evening. A really nice drink to sit in the hot sun with. Sadly there were not enough umbrellas to protect our whole group from the pounding rays, but having alcohol and sunblock on hand made me quickly forget about it. The reason for the two stars is the food. I was really hopeful because I noticed that they have tomato and herb plants on the roof so I figured this place might pump out some great flavors. Being a vegetarian limited me to the Margarita pizza, stuffed peppers and some Mozzarella tomato skewers. The former was ok, but someone spilled their drink on it soon after it was set down and we never got a new one (because we were a big party all apps kept coming out of the kitchen once they were eaten up) . The skewers were pretty bogus. The tomatoes lacked flavor, the balsamic reduction was weak, and the dusting of crumbs seemed like it was intended to add texture, but really it just made it seem like they rolled on the floor and were then put on the plate. The stuffed peppers could have been good, but the three I ate didn't have any goat cheese in them, so boo to that. The carnists in my group also had sliders and the shaved sirloin pizza, but the overall consensus was that everything was way to spicy. Rooftop bars are definitely a special thing to lots of folks, so it's great that Providence now offers one. For myself though the view is not enough to excuse the expensive drinks and bland food.

This review is for lunch only -- I have yet to brave my way to the Rooftop for evening drinks or dinner, so take this review for what it is. First things first, the place is gorgeous. I mean, it's beautiful -- clearly very close attention was paid to the aesthetics and it pays off. Teak furniture, sleek lines, wood on white on white. It adds to the airy, "I'm on a roof!" appeal and I have to say, I like it. Sure it's the only rooftop bar in downtown Providence, and while the view may not be as breathtaking as one you'd find in San Francisco or Boston, it's pretty cool for PVD. Secondly, The Rooftop seems to take itself very seriously. A dress code is established before you even set foot in the elevator by very visible signage. There are rules, and if you cannot abide by them then you needn't even bother trying to get in to spend your money. This ain't no dive bar, baby. I found the staff to be lovely -- the hostess immediately acknowledged me and sat me upon arrival, and one my friend joined me at the table the server greeted us. She was absolutely wonderful -- super helpful, accommodating to my friends' gluten-free requests and eager to help me find the perfect pizza for myself. In all sincerity, she was the highlight of my visit... She even outshone the decor :). As for the food, it's ok. It's not spectacular, it's not creative, but it's fine. I had the tuna crudo, which was fresh and beautiful but lacked seasoning and citrus, and the steak tip pizza, which was pretty good but could have used a little something extra to kick it in the pants a bit (again, seasoning). All in all, it was enjoyable and I'd do it again, just request some salt, pepper and limes. For a lunch spot, The Rooftop will do just fine.

I really wanted to give Rooftop @ Providence G at least 4 stars, but I just can't do it based on my first and probably last experience having dined here this past Saturday for a friend's birthday. I called early in the week to make a reservation for 10; the girl on the phone had to take my information twice and then at the end of the conversation asks for my credit card in case we don't give them 48 hours notice to cancel so they can charge $50 a head. Yup, $500. I don't think so. This information was relayed to the birthday boy and as it turned out, there were going to be only 9 of us, so he called to make a reservation. Well, they don't take them for a party less than 10. Ok fine. We arrived @ 8 p.m. on Saturday night and parked using the complimentary valet; great perk. Upon taking an elevator ride up 6 flights of stairs, we arrived at Rooftop. The hostess, after she poorly answered some of our questions and I finally had to say in a very slow voice: "How do we get a table to sit down and eat?" Wow. They pulled 2 tables together for us and off we went. Our waiter, and I can't remember his name, was fairly pleasant but for good portion of the night, was hard to find. Don't get me wrong, it was quite busy, but that's not my problem. After looking at the menu for about 120 seconds, yes, it's that's small, my friend and I decided to split the Margherita pizza and a field greens salad. There are a handful of appetizers, a couple of salads, a couple of entrees and four or so pizzas. The food was okay, but nothing to write home about. Friends ordered the Duck Nuggets and weren't impressed. I can see this place being a great spot for a couple of drinks at dusk on a date or out with friends. It was mostly a younger crowd, with a few older parties here and there. A lovely couple had gotten married that afternoon and were taking photographs all around; it was quite beautiful. I truly loved being up high and seeing all of the DownCity buildings so intimately.

Our 30 minute wait for a table turned into an hour and a half before we gave up. Loads of empty tables that were "reserved ". Never again! There are too many great places to go in Providence to waste your time at this place.

Wish I could comment on the food, but I never got a chance to taste it. Arrived last night with a group of four and was told it would be "30-35 minutes" for a table and that they'd text us when ready. No problem. Had cocktails which were fine (hard to screw up a straight-up Grey Goose martini). We waited and waited. There was a wedding party there, which may have complicated things, but we saw many empty chairs in their area (and elsewhere). We stood around for an hour and a half before giving up. Too bad because the atmosphere is nice. (That's what we came for, not the food, which we heard is mediocre at best.) We ended up at Red Fin Crudo + Kitchen on Washington Street. They seated us in under 5 minutes and the meal was fabulous.

Told we could not have the table we wanted because it was on hold for the Manager's friend after waiting for an hour to be seated. Don't waste your money. Id rather sit on the sidewalk at any other bar then waste a penny at this pretentious place. The food is lousy as hell too!

Yikes... how can such a fantastic location produce such terrible everything.

  • Jason S.

This was the roof top bar experience I always wanted to find in NYC. Not packed. Gorgeous view. One complaint was the the drinks were NYC prices. But I would go back definitely for another try. We had appetizers and they were decent. Not sure how a full meal would be here.

Later.

42 dollars for a pitcher of white sangria that tastes more like water than wine. Good location but you're paying for real estate. Without new management I don't see this place going anywhere.

The service was awful, beers were overpriced and the view wasn't even good! Didn't get served for at least 10 minutes. I like the idea of it, but I don't think it's worth waiting in line for.

2 stars for ambiance it is absolutely beautiful out here! However, food was not good at all - very plain, odd menu, VERY small portions just not good at all. Service was ok. I would come for a drink but that's it - choose elsewhere for dinner. Even the pizza was subpar, had no flavor.

I like it!
