This place was certainly an interesting establishment, clean, friendly and very local friendly. I came here with my family based on glowing reviews and decided to give this place a whorl. Unfortunately, despite ordering every taco, a torta, steak and guac, I thought the most impressive dish was probably the guac. The tacos were made fresh, but the al pastor was a bit dry, the tripe was greasy and had that diaper aftertaste, and the chicken was also dry as well. The head meat was decent, but otherwise not spectacular. The torta was really disappointing and just felt like a sandwich with sour cream. The steak was also dry and wasn't earth shattering. I was a bit disappointed because I saw someone else get a fried fish dish and it wasn't on the menu, maybe it was because of the language barrier, but I didn't see an listing for fish on the menu. The guac, however, was very very fresh and reasonably priced with freshly fried chips. Overall, despite the clean environment and friendly staff, the food was just not very impressive. Food: 3 stars Price: 3 stars Ambiance: 3 stars

Very nice surprise. Went there for dinner and the menu was varied. It specializes in Mexican and Salvadoran dishes. The waitress was very nice and polite....since I speak Spanish, we talked in our native tongues, making the dialogue a lot easier. She recommended the tacos, pupusas and nachos....so that is what we ordered. The Tacos al Pastor and the Tacos de Carnitas were the best. The beef tongue taco was good, but not as flavorful. The nachos were crispy and toasty. The pupusa (pork and cheese) was crispy on the outside and flavorful on the inside...for those who do not know what a pupusa is...it's a traditional Salvadoran dish made of a thick, handmade corn tortilla (made using masa de maíz, a maize flour dough used in Latin American cuisine) that is usually filled with a blend of meat, cheese or vegetables. Prices were cheap.. Smoothies and frozen drinks for $3. Beer for $3.50 Tacos $1.50. Pupusas $2.00. They have a large selection of jarritos (Mexican soft drinks), American soft drinks, beers, etc. They also offer burgers, spaghetti and other Americanized choices for those who are not as adventurous. Mexican tortas (sandwiches) are also available. :-) Check it out...I plan to go back and try their carne asada, fajitas, chicken dishes.

My first trip here. Been wanting to go for a few months. Unfortunately I won't return. They wouldn't honor our restaurant.com coupon which was purchased and printed 10 mins before we got there. There was a hand written note on the door that said " NO MORE COUPONS". It was effective that today. Just our luck... I really enjoyed the el pastor tacos other than that...Everything else was down hill. I came in so hungry ( my first mistake). The service was inattentive and the server kept forgetting stuff, like drink refills. I ordered the beef enchiladas with red sauce. I got green sauce. Sent them back. Then got red sauce but it was chicken enchiladas!! I felt bad sending back a second time. But this time just ordered more tacos. The shrimp in the entree ordered by my friend was overcooked. The buffalo wings were extremely hot, so much so, that I couldn't enjoy them and yeah, my drink was empty for a few minutes or 8, my mouth was ON FIRE!!! Which might as well have been 30 mins in taste bud years. I should have gotten the sauce on the side. I so wanted to like them considering it's in the neighborhood, but oh well!

We went here for the first time last night. The food was absolutely amazing. I had a chicken burrito that was stuffed FULL with 'real' white meat chicken. My husband had the steak fajitas (awesome!) and for an appetizer we had the potato skins. Everything was delicious.....this will definitely be our new 'go to' restaurant for Mexican food. Also, the guacamole is fantastic! Yes, the decor is a bit outdated, but it's very clean and comfortable. Give it a try, you will not regret it.

For several years, my boyfriend and I have been on a hunt to try as many Latin American restaurants as possible. Coming from NY, it was really hard to get me to believe that New England could have decent Mexican joints. It's unreal how wrong I was. The service is fantastic, the portions are generous and the food itself is astounding. La Lupita has been wonderful to us, but we'll be making La Hacienda our perma-stop when hunting for cheap, delicious food. I wish the decor was a bit more updated but really, I'm there for the taste and great staff. The platanos remind me of home, and that's an awesome thing.

My boyfriend and I come here at least once a week. Real deal authentic Mexican food. The breakfast is fast, inexpensive and delicious. And take my advice and order anything with the mole sauce, its so good!!!! And the staff are always extremely nice and helpful. Five stars!!!

It's hard to pry me away from La Lupitas, but this place can -sometimes. Generally, the food is slightly more expensive than La Lupitas, but also you get a little more (in quantity and variety). The Papusas are the best I've had in Providence, and the Pork Pastor is sooo good. Lacking atmosphere? they have a picture of Pancho Villa! Okay, yeah, don't go here for a first date (but breakfast the next morning is a splendid idea -yes they have great/cheap breakfast).

Food was pretty good, a little cluttered and lighting should be improved, like I said, food and prices are good, place needs an makeover. They have free wifi which is a plus, waitresses are pretty friendly and helpful, service was good.

Don't worry about what it looks like from outside, the food and service is great. I went here with my Dominican girlfriend who loved it and reminded her of home. I ended up getting a michelada a pork papusas, which both was awesome. For our mains we ended up getting chicken Chimichangas and she ordered Steak Ranchero with fried plantains! All the dishes were great and the prices were even better. The server we had was very helpful and attentive. My only complain is the interior. I would like to of had it be more updated. Over all I would recommend going here!

A solid place all around. Sure, they have their off days but overall La Hacienda is very reliable. The food is good, the staff is friendly, and the atmosphere is cozy. Get the Hacienda Nachos. Try their breakfast too! Excellent milk/fruit shakes. La Hac forever!

I like this restaurant its cozy and they serve A LOT of food for cheap but I didnt like that the wings were a little dry and stiff and also when we ordered Nachos the cheese was dried up by the time we got it... The staff is very polite but they forgot our fried plantains as well as an extra water we ordered so there was a lot confusion between us and the waiter but other than that we left really full and our stomachs were statisfied... Their parcha (chinola) juice is amazing !!!! Definitely recommend it because it's almost like a smoothie and they serve it in a big cup.

Top of the charts for authentic Mexican in lil Rhody. Cheap, excellent tacos. Wicked good guacamole. Try a papusa! You'll be full and your wallet will be as well. Gracias La Hacienda!

We ordered the cheese and lorocco pupusas and the hacienda nachos. My mom ordered the horchata drink and it tasted like we got the bottom of the pitcher (flour mix and grainy) the waiter soon fixed the situation. Also the pupusas were good but not amazing, I have had better. The nachos are probably the best I've had, plenty of guacamole and sour cream. The decoration is traditional. Yes, it may look outdated but it's what houses in Central America usually look like on the inside (painting, tiles, decor). The waiters are attentive.

For me, La Hacienda is the definition of a 2 star place. I had come here twice prior to my most recent visit, and was not able to try it (first visit b/c of some soft of scuffle involving cops in the parking lot blocking the entrance and second visit, I came in ravenously hungry once, stood in front of the register and got ignored until my stomach was screaming at me to go across the street for tacos instead). For my 3rd visit, I went in w/ a friend and we were seated promptly. I made the mistake of coming when Mr. Hungry Monster inside was yelling at me, so I ended up ordering the equivalent of 3 meals. 1. Appetizer hot wings. Typical wings, typical hot sauce. Ok but not great. 3 stars. 2. Pastor Tacos. The pastor meat was prepared on a gyro-style rotisserie contraption which got me enthusiastic until I ate them. They were ok, but missing the sweetness and spice to make these really good pastor tacos. 2.5 stars. 3. Shrimp entrée. This was glowingly recommended by the waiter and in the end is absolutely not recommended by me. The garlic butter spice on it was ok, but the worst was it was over cooked with the shells stuck to the meat. It was kinda gross and expensive too (around $13 for 8 shrimps). The side rice was gross, the salad was gross. Shrimp is not hard to cook, I don't get it. 0 stars. 4. Beef Torta. I ordered this by accident. I was busting at the seams and took this home to eat the next day. I don't know what happened but it tasted above average, even after I nuked it. Weird. 3.5 stars. 5. Drinks. The water and jamaica tea tasted like dirt was an ingredient. They need to fix their filtration system. 1 star 6. Hapless Service. Screwed up orders, disappearing act/neglect. 2 stars. I hear their breakfast may be worth coming back for, but at least for dinner it's strictly carry out only for me.

Their menu is quite strange. I have a problem with restaurants who call themselves Mexican, yet sell pupusas? The space itself is kind of grotty and cluttered; the waitresses an odd mix of meek and standoff-ish. I much rather prefer Chilangos up the street.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
