Kabob and curry is one of the best Indian restaurants I've ever been too. It may not be totally authentic, but it's 100% delicious. I've stopped here many a time for a treat yoself meal, and it's definitely my favorite place on college hill. My regular order is the chicken saag with pea and potato naan. I don't even know what they put in their saag but it is so, so delicious. You wouldn't believe spinach can taste so good. The p&p naan is like a mashup between naan and a samosa, and it's just awesome and perfect for dipping into curry. Their samosas are also incredibly satisfying, with crunchy fried shells stuffed fat with a potato/vegetable mixture and accompanied by three dipping sauces. Student groups also frequently get K&C catering for events, and everything I've tried is very yummy. As for service, it can be a little slow sometimes, so don't come here if you're in a rush. However, they do give you a complimentary crispy cracker/bread with the same three sauces as the samosas to sate you as you wait. The seating is a bit cramped as well, but K&C still maintains a nice, colorful vibe. Do check this place out if you're on Thayer!

A nice place to fill your Indian craving! The service is great-- the waiters are very courteous and the host is very welcoming. The food is also fantastic, great for vegetarians, vegans, and even those who eat gluten-free. I have not disliked anything I've ordered from there before. Personally, I am a fan of their lunches versus dinners as the dinner menu can be a bit pricey, although you do get more of what you order. You do get quite a big serving for their lunches too. Also, they have specials on their lunches, where if you order enough, you get a free lunch! And if you are a Brown student, just show your ID and you will get a discount. I recommend everyone visit this place at least once!

Went here while away on vacation and was happy to find a great Indian restaurant. The appetizers were great and we shared a pitcher of the tamarind margarita which was great as well. Our server was Maddy and he made sure we were taken care of during our visit. Overall would definitely recommend this place!!! Probably the best Indian food I've had in a while.

I have been here a couple of times and I like it. The food tastes good and is always hot. I really like chicken tikki marsala and also goat curry. I also really enjoyed their soup. I am always a big fan of coconut soups and I could not resist. I am glad I got it. This is my go to place when I need to warm my chilly bones. There is nothing like some hot indian food to warm you up!

I'm assuming that this place only gets people through the door simply because of the fact that it is on Thayer St. The food was nothing more than edible. I've had better at every other indian place I've ever been to. The portions are small. The bf and I each ordered entrees, and our rice came out on a seperate plate; one plate for the both of us to share? The space is cramped. We had about 3 different servers which was pretty weird. One was younger than the other two, and he was the only one who was kind to us. The other servers were rude, and ignored our requests many times. We had to ask for water more than once, and they forgot our naan order, which was bland by the way, even after reminding them about 3 times. There was also some man just standing in a corner, stern look on his face, watching us eat...awkward. Will not be returning.

Happy we got takeout from here last night. The chicken tikka masala and tandoori chicken were both very good. Portion size for dinner order is quite substantial; I can easily make 2 meals from one entree. Highly recommended!

I have been eating Kabob and Curry food regularly for over a year now - both inside and outside (i.e. takeout) the restaurant. I have tried almost every dish on the menu, including specials, and of course I have my preferences, but I have yet to try something I didn't like. Being athletic and eating out as frequently as I do, I have no choice but to be health conscious and watch what I eat. What keeps me coming back here is that I don't feel bloated after eating my heart out, when compared to other Indian restaurants. The food is always fresh with minimal use of oil and sugar, and custom spice level to suit your needs. Besides the food, I've always enjoyed the warm service and the friendly ambiance here, and will continue to return for as long as I am in Rhode Island.

We came here over Saturday for dinner and ordered the lamb biryani, chicken keema and dal tadka for the 3 of us. Not being used to really spicy food, we ordered medium spice and it was just right! If you're looking for a nice home cooked indian meal with not too much emphasis on ghee, fried food and oil then this is the best place I can think of. We also had the malai kulfi and it was too die for - kept smacking our lips till the last bite. There are two levels of - we sat above - I feel the ambience below is slightly better but would recommend coming a bit early especially on the weekend as this gets crowded very quickly. I'll be back soon!

The service was Excellent we really had a great waiter. Food met or exceeded our expectations...awesome taste, portions are very generous, we all loved our selections...my order of Goat Curry was the best I've ever tasted!!...and I've been to India a few times! Decor.. well its Spartan but thats fine and no Hindi or Bollywood music..which I kind of would have liked..softly in the background. We are going back tomorrow for more! Party of 4.5 (and kid friendly too!!) was very reasonable..nearly cheap! Thanks!

Kabob and Curry is located in College Hill, not to far from RISD. If you haven't been to College Hill it's quite a treat - much like other neighborhoods near colleges, there's several inexpensive restaurants, a big Starbucks, a classic movie theater (with lit marquee!) and of course, Kabob and Curry. After a rather disappointing experience at Bombay Club I didn't have high hopes in finding decent Indian in Providence. Since I'm usually traveling with my friend and coworker, Siddharth, we usually sample what each city has to offer in Indian cuisine - Sid had previously lived and worked in Providence and recommended Bombay Club and we found out from that experience that the restaurant had definitely taken a turn for the worst. While searching for a new dining experience we decided to go by the Rhode Island School of Design (or RISD for short) campus on this particular evening. Doing a quick Yelp search using the smart phone app (which I highly recommend) up popped Kabob and Curry. The restaurant has a bit of an odd layout - you climb stairs into a foyer decorated in South-Eastern motifs and then walk through to an outside, covered deck. There's a fold-out sign with specials listed - interesting to see gluten free and Halal options. The smells were very good and there were more than on Indian and South Asian groups of people seated - most appeared to be students so I still reserved judgement. We were presented a menu. I spotted a Trinity IPA to find out they were out, they were also out of the Sierra Nevada, Bass Ale and Tajmahal so I defaulted to a Kingfisher. So far I'm not too impressed. Looking over the menu Sid and I both decided to go with the Thali Plates - these are a great way to sample many different items and get some extras thrown in. You get a samosa, pappadum, two veg dishes, rice or naan and a curry (or two for the jumbo) of your choice. You also get keer for dessert! Vegetarian Thali - Sid went with a sag paneer and a veg curry - he heartily approved of everything on the plate. We both had the same dal which was more of a soup and very tasty. Also, the samosas (they were both veggie) were quite good and a welcome change from some I've had recently. Meat Thali - I went with a Chicken Vindaloo and a Lamb Curry, extra spicy on both. The vindaloo had an appropriate amount of spice and tartness and the lamb curry was tender and delicious We also added a garlic naan - it was good but appeared to use that chopped garlic you get in a jar. This is still much better than that powdered garlic crap I saw in Salt Lake. In all the food was quite good with an intensity of spices missing in our previous experience at Bombay Club - we thoroughly enjoyed the food, the service was great and the Thali plates offered more food than either of us could eat. The only negative was that it was a very busy night so we had to wait a bit to get our food - which was still well within our expectations. Kabob and Curry will be on my "must" list the next time I return to Providence. -- John (Also posted in longer form on my food blog)

I love this place. I've been to almost every Indian restaurant in Rhode Island and nobody can top Kabob and Curry. The food here is delicious and the hospitality is superb. I will always be coming back for more. I also recommend this restaurant to any and everyone. We are regulars here and we usually get served by a gentleman named Maddy. He knows exactly how my boyfriend and myself like our food. Spiced to the max!!!!

AWESOME food! So so so delicious, deep developed flavors, perfectly seasoned food! Fast service, good combo deals, big portions, too. The mango lassi is delicious and refreshing. Great veg options. I come back every time I'm in Providence.

Overall, we had a nice experience, and thats why I gave the place 4 stars. We visited on a Monday night. Service was great. Our server madhab was very funny and personable and timely with his appearances at our table. He was helpful and suggested a wine for me and suggested an entre for my date. I loved the decor because the colors were so representative of indian culture. The food started off really good, but then fell a little short. We had the coconut mushroom soup which was so delicious. It was a punch of flavor in a small cup. The veggie samosa and lamb samosas were both very fresh. The outside was crunchy and soft at the same time. My chicken vindaloo was what disappointed me. It was too tomatoey and not enough like curry. It tasted a little watered down almost like a spicy tomato sauce. It didn't have a strong taste of seasoning for my liking. We also tried the chicken biryani, which also a little bit of a let down. There wasn't enough texture compared to other biryanies ive had and a little on the bland side.

Never disappointed in the selection and quality here, no matter how many times we've been back. The staff is wonderful and very accommodating. Make friends with Maddy, he'll make sure your dining experience goes smoothly!

Kabob & Curry is my go-to Indian restaurant in Providence. They consistently put out high quality food and their service is pleasant and professional. We both dine in the restaurant and go there for take-out regularly. Even before we were regulars, however, we were greeted warmly and made to feel special. That stuck out in my mind, back then, and was a big part of what made me so loyal. That and the food, of course. I travel a lot for work and I order Indian food often in Washington, DC, Miami and San Francisco. I have yet to find better quality in terms of preparation, flavor profile and textural consistency than what I find at Kabob & Curry. It is an excellent restaurant.

They have quick lunch menu options. It is fairly priced at $6.99. If you are a student or around Thayer, it is a good choice particularly if you would like to sit down. The options are otherwise limited. The service is really hit or miss. The food is decent but definitely Americanized. If you like a little kick to your Indian fare, head down Hope Street.

Subpar Indian food. Food is too sweet and/or bland. Food in many Indian restaurants is typical menu, which tries to cover the whole country....it is like having a restaurant that has food from whole of Europe. You can't expect these places to be any good if you know what authentic Indian food taste like. Popular with Brown students. A large portions for lunch special.

I have always loved Indian food. For as long as I can remember, I have always been amazed by its great flavors and the depth of the dishes. Going to Kabob & Curry has only raised the proverbial bar that I have for what is amazing Indian food. I feel confident in saying that Kabob & Curry has the best Indian food outside of India. The people that work there are always incredibly kind, understanding, and accommodating, especially Maddy and Sri! While the food is perfectly spiced, it is not necessarily spicy. If you do not prefer spicy food, I highly recommend the chana masala, a chick pea dish served in an incredible sauce. The chick peas are always perfectly cooked and tender, they literally fall apart in your mouth! I have never had a negative experience here; the food is always hot and cooked amazingly. I also appreciate their consistency; the food is always as delicious as it was the first time I went there. To give you a little background, I am vegan and have celiac disease, meaning I don't eat meat, milk, and most breads. This often makes eating out very hard and requires me to ask a lot of questions. The staff at Kabob & Curry has always been amazing in helping me with finding things I can eat and are very knowledgeable about ingredients and how different dishes are prepared. Their menu is also very helpful with this; unlike many restaurants, their menu has very clearly labeled sections including an all vegetarian portion and an all vegan portion which also shows which are gluten free. I have noticed that some people have left negative reviews for things like there being a lot of college kids or it being too small. It's on Thayer Street near both Brown University and RISD so there are understandably more college students than you may find elsewhere. But, the diversity of people at Kabob and Curry is part of its charm. As to the size complaint, it is one of the larger establishments on Thayer Street. It could be tight if it was very busy, but that can be said about everything on Thayer Street including the street itself.

Worst Indian restaurant! They had bharli wangi on January menu*** ok I grew up in pune and what they served is basically lentils with egg plant. Where is the missing coconut? Also, please stop advertising authentic food if you can not serve us something genuine. If you can not stick to something that's native. Please don't advertise authentic. The papri chat chutney had gone bad. We returned it. Ok! Part 2. They did not serve us with forks and spoons. Come on! Are your waiters sleeping??? I am disappointed. They should close down the restaurant and the chef should make sure what they have is actually something that they publicize on website. I would recommend Rasoi or india for people living in the area. You will find far better food there for the same price. Horrible! Will never go again.

Bad food! Bad service! The only good thing about the place is the manager or the ower Is good. We went in a group of 5 people and ordered various stuff. Biryani was some kind of pulav with undercooked chicken. The dessert they give with thali was made of spoiled milk which tasted bitter. Mango mint chicken had undercooked chicken And samosa chat was not worth eating. But yes the manger changed the biryani. And changed the dessert too but the other dessert was bad too. And the service is really really slow. So only for the manger 2 stars.

Great Indian food, I've been coming here for Years and to be honest they have the best Mango chicken hands down. The only problem with this place is the service is awful, like it makes you not want to come back because of that. I remember my cocktail came after my meal even when I ordered it beforehand. The server wouldn't smile, every question I asked him he would give me a look with pure annoyance. I Haven't been back after that ordeal. If the service was better I'd probably come back every week.

We recently moved to Providence and have tried multiple Indian restaurants. This is by far our favorite! Every time we dine in, the staff is super friendly and fun to talk to. Every time we order take out, the food is ready by the time we get there, 15 min tops! The chicken xacuti (make it hot!) and mango/mint are my faves and honey ginger and pesto naans are delicious.

Came out today and unfortunately had a bad experience today. The strawberry lassi was watery, utensils were dirty, and the sauces that come with the papdum looked like they were previously used since the level of where the sauce was in the dish was lower than where the line of where it started. Never had a experience like this. Hope this doesn't happen again.

I try different Indian restaurants in PVD, but I always keep coming back to Kabob and Curry. It is my go-to place for takeout when I don't feel like cooking and don't feel like dining out, but I also enjoy eating at the restaurant itself. In my (not exactly educated on this topic) opinion, Kabob and Curry is probably the most traditional of Providence's Indian spots. Of course they serve dishes like chicken tikka masala, but they also have goat curry and other less run-of-the-mill dishes. That being said, the chicken tikka masala is one of my favorites, along with the saag (a spinach-based curry) and I almost always order it at Kabob and Curry. A couple of curries, a side of raita (yogurt sauce) and a mango lassi, and you've got yourself a flavorful, filling, and healthy meal. The restaurant itself is quite nice, although I tend to avoid Thayer Street and the mess that is trying to park on or near it. The service has always been friendly and prompt, and when you do order takeout, it is ready in under fifteen minutes. No complaints, and I'll keep coming back!

Food is great. Prices are great. Space/Ambiance is great. Service is HORRIBLE. I've been to Kabob and Curry four times now and it doesn't matter if it's a weekend, weekday, holiday, big group, just for two... The service is consistently bad. The host and busboys are usually nice but for some reason the waiters are always incredibly rude. My boyfriend and I have kept going back because of the food but after the last time we just can't fully enjoy our meal with the rudeness.

We decided to check out Kabob and Curry for lunch during a recent trip to Providence. I took advantage of their Appetizer Treat special consisting of two vegetarian appetizers for $6.00. I selected their Vegetable Pakoras and Vegetable Samosa. Both of these appetizers were very nicely prepared and tasted great. I particularly enjoyed the Pakoras along with their accompanying dipping sauces. These appetizers were so good that I added an order of their Cauliflower 65 appetizer which had a kind of sweet and sour thing going on and like the other two appetizers surprised us with its wonderful flavor. Along with some Black Tea this was a filling meal and a great value. The only downer was being provided with a dirty spoon in my utensil set. Since this has happened before and was reported by another Yelp reviewer management needs to make a serious attempt to prevent this from happening again.

Excellent service, excellent quantity and very good food. I always did the Sunday morning brunch, and then would slip into a food coma through the evening. I highly suggest coming to this place for a relaxing meal. Try the Chicken Tikka Masala, all of their lamb dishes, and their amazing naan.

Delicious food. Great curry options, including meat and vegetarian and vegan choices. Our waiter must have been trained by Gordon Ramsey - he had a plan to sell us way more food than we needed. The space was nice, and good for groups. They don't have any kabobs on their menu though!

I love love Indian food and this is hands down my favorite Indian restaurant. I've been going here since I was a kid. The owner is really nice, I used to see him around a lot when I was younger. I went here with my family for my 8th birthday and he walked across the street and got me Ben & Jerrys ice cream since they didn't offer dessert! Really stand up guy. Also, their waiters are always very nice and provide excellent and timely service. Never had an issue. So for the important part: THE FOOD! I've eaten Indian at a bunch of different places, including London and this is by far my favorite Indian restaurant. I usually go with my family and we split the chicken tikka masala, chana masala, saag paneer, naan (of course!). Oh and we also get the lamb and veggie samosas for an appetizer.. sometimes we switch it up and get another appetizer too, like the aloo tikki. Every single thing we've ever ordered from there has been absolutely delicious. My husband isn't big on Indian food or curry but he likes this one the best. He loves the samosas and the tandoori chicken. Oh, and their takeout is pretty legit too. Give you a massive amount of food. If you like Indian food, please do yourself a favor and go here! And if you've never had Indian, I highly recommend trying it for the first time here. Now I'm craving kabob & curry..

Super attentive service makes me feel like family ... and as I dined there often with my real family this confuses me as I think I prefer the K&B family, they make me better food. Have a cocktail really their cocktails are sweet and perfectly balance the spice of the food. Love their Gluten-Free Naan Love their HUGE selection of Veg & Vegan options Bhindi Masala is yummy (Okra, onion and Mango powder) ... magically delicious. The only downside is finding parking on Thayer oh and all those college kids.

Kabob and Curry makes our day! The service is always excellent: friendly, attentive, and prompt. We usually get a very warm welcome when we arrive. The amazing attention is equalled by the spectacular, flavorful food. The chana masala has the creamiest garbanzo beans we have ever had in a delicious sauce with fresh coriander on top. The bhindi masala made us okra lovers and we can never pass up the alu gobhi (cauliflower and potatoes). The sambar (soup) and dosas should also get some special recognition; they are scrumptious. Vegan, gluten-free, and dairy-free dishes are clearly marked on the menu. Despite our restrictions, we have many options to choose from. We can't wait until our next visit!

  • Vanessa O.

I am a weekly sometimes daily regular here. I have to say I have zero complaints. Any minor adjustments were handled in spot and was never repeated! :-D The service is always amazing and very one on one. They actually want to know how you are and to see you soon to catch up in this cozy atmosphere. I usually get Maddy or Bipin as my server and both are excellent. Bombay talkies, (the drink, adults only and ask for Maddy), Appetizer of Lamb Garley, Mango Shrimp Salad and entree it off with Chicken Hara Masala with their traditional rice or in my case brown rice. Oh my God, I'm in heaven! Seriously try this place out and anything on their menu is available for all eating diets. Gluten free, dairy free, egg free, peanut free, vegan, you name it you can eat something off their menu! :)

I used to count Kabob&Curry as one of my go-to places for really authentic Indian food, saag paneer but, this last time I was just disappointed over and over and over! And I was having an awesome night prior to dinner! While there was seating downstairs, we were seated up stairs with all the college kids --it was like a really loud rambunctious cafeteria--in a deep corner that our waiter seemed to forget about the whole night. When the waiter did come around, he was very impatient and rude and rushed us through our orders, almost refusing to answer short food questions. I can't eat eggplant and it always pops up in Indian dishes. He was so dismissive! The inattentiveness was disappointing because we wanted to know what we were buying for dinner!! We ordered Lassi which were absolutely delicious. Some things are hard to mess up! When our food arrived it looked good-- not fresh-looking but, earthy textures and colors typical traditional Indian cuisine. And it smelled good. But when my friend started into his tandoori chicken he found it dry, over-cooked, flavorless and cold. When I tucked into my thali (assortment of different small dishes) each and every dish was cold like it had not been heated? One dish was cubed frozen vegetables from a bag (for 15.99, they should be serving more than school cafeteria food, come on!). Another dish had eggplant in it!! Had I not known what to look for, they could've had a very very sick patron. What really got me was the Saag paneer. When is the last time you had a savory Indian dish that was sweet? As in-- the cook added sugar to the dish. Wtf? For 3 oz of food, it tasted like two sugars had been added. Uck. The same was true for all the dishes in the thali. Sweet. Just as sweet as the dessert. I'm not sure if they're adding sugar to appeal to American 'tastes'. It doesn't work for me. You can count on me to buy packets of Indian food from Spectrum India, they'll be tastier and fresher!

My absolute FAVE Indian restaurant in all of RI. My fave dish is the Lamb Vindaloo (you can order it to varying levels of spice) and I die for it. I've enjoyed everything I have tried on the menu, never disappointed. The staff is super sweet and friendly, I have been going there for 7+ years with my family and they are very attentive and accommodating as well. MUST-try for Indian food for sure.

I just had this Chili Chicken with rice a few minutes ago. The mixture flavor of spicy and sweet is really good! The sweetness kinda soothed the aggressive spicy flavor and the rice was tasty too.

Delish! I was quite pleased with the restaurant. They always make service look effortless and crisp. The food is solid, but honestly I think the service outweighs it slightly. Which I think is quite rare around these parts. Go on weeknights, when Thayer Street is less...Thayer Street.

A good bet for Indian food at decent prices. However, don't expect amazing service. The Good: - The Student Discount. ATTENTION: This place offers student discounts to Brown students with an ID on them, but you have to remember to ask for it, because they won't offer it to you! Also be sure to ask before they bring you the bill. - Lunch. Lunch prices are extremely reasonable and come with rice. However, I also think that dinner is not bad given how huge the portions are. If I come for dinner, I normally eat half and take the rest home! - Aloo Gobi, Saag Paneer, and Idli Sambar. All winners! Eat the aloo gobi with rice, the saag paneer with naan, and the idli sambar if you're looking for something lighter and spicy. - Fun Bollywood tracks! Nice mix of old and new stuff. The Bad: - The Service. Honestly, the service is incredibly Jekyll and Hyde here. I've had amazing service experiences, but also many horrible service experiences that have ended in the waiter huffing, rolling his eyes, and storming away, which I have honestly never seen a waiter do before. The same server will sometimes be incredibly nice or else give my party huge amounts of attitude. You just never know what you're going to get. In summary: nice place that with better service would easily merit 4 stars.

Kabob and curry is absolutely delicious Indian food. Only to be equalled by the owner's other Indian restaurant, Rasoi, in Pawtucket. It is very vegetarian friendly and both the naan and samosa are amazing! The staff is always attentive and very friendly. Not to mention, the location is perfect; Right on Thayer street, it's the perfect spot to grab a bite before going to the Avon for a movie.

This is a hard review for me to write. My family and I have been going to Kabob and Curry since my teenagers were babies. Their first taste of Indian food came from this place. Owner Sanjiv Dhar was always very welcoming when we would see him and the food was the best around. I say "was" because our last visit (or to better emphasize our LAST visit) was one of the worst restaurant experiences we have ever experienced. We were seated upstairs and waited about 15 minutes for the server to recognize us. Once he did, after our flagging him over, he took our drink and apps order. A runner gave our drinks to the wrong table and when they refused he started back down the stairs until I caught him and told him they were OUR drinks. We wait another 30 minutes and no appetizers so I ask our useless waiter where they are, oh they are coming soon he says and then tells the runner to go put the order in. The staff turnover is the root cause of all of these problems by the way. The competent staff of years past are all gone and you now have untrained, unfriendly and patronizing employees to deal with. Back to the service. We get our meals and at the first bite the manager comes and asks us if we can move over 3 tables so a party of 20 college kids can come take the table. We oblige and are moved into the corner. If you think we were ignored before you should see how long it took us to get a server after the college kid party arrived. Finally I grab the arm of a passing server (not ours) and tell him to get our check. It took so long for him to return that I went down to the front desk to pay. On the way out I saw the manager and told him we had been patrons for over 15 years and this was the last time we would visit this place. He apologized and then handed me a blank gift card and said please come back. I don't know what the contents are on the gift card and will never know since I wont be back. Sanjiv Dhar is a good man and it is hard to run a food business. You can tell he cares about his restaurant and while we won't be back I am editing my earlier rating because he does deserve the business.

First time there & we had a wonderful time. Shrinee was delightful to talk to and very charming. Their new craft beers was a great way to start. The chicken tikka app was delish, tandori chicken amazing & their honey & ginger naan (a first for us) was also a nice surprise! Affordable! Highly recommend

This review is based on their take-out service. Indian food is my ultimate comfort food, and that's just what I need when I get out of my chemistry lab at 8:30 on Tuesdays :( :( :( I call in my food as I leave campus, struggle to find parking (Thayer St. is so annoying), dodge a spacey ivy-league student or 32786483, and there I am! My food is always ready in the 15 minutes they quote, and the tantalizing aroma of my chicken korma makes for an impatient ride home. The 2 dishes I've been getting are the chicken korma and the chicken tikka masala. Both have delicious, rich sauces and big pieces of chicken. Definitely hits the spot.

The Sunday buffet hits the spot, and for $10.95, you can even make a habit of it. As with most Indian buffets, the food is much tamer than what you'd probably order off the regular menu. They have a limited amount of counter space, and they have to appeal to a broad range of tastes (and by broad I obviously mean narrow). The last time I went they had a couple salad options, veggie tikka masala, tandoori chicken, daal, eggplant and potatoes, and a chicken and tomato dish that WASN'T chicken tikka masala. All the dishes were good, but none of them were great. The naan, which is complimentary and served to your table, is fluffy, but a little too doughy for my liking. In short, there's nothing really that sets Kabob and Curry apart from other Indian restaurants (hence the three star rating), but it will certainly do in a pinch.

As a forewarning, I am of Indian heritage so I am pretty picky when I go out for indian food. However, I found that the appetizers (pappadums and some chutneys) were really good, and the food is pretty tasty. I have had a variety of the veggie curries, and I would say that the spices they use and the presentation is definitely up to par. Do not miss out on the garlic naan! The reason I knock this place is because it's pretty expensive for Indian food located on Thayer. Traditionally, you would want to try a few different curries at a time, but each curry is $12 at dinner, leaving you with maybe one curry. The 2 for $5 appetizers are a really good deal though!

Best Indian food in Providence. We keep trying other places and end up wishing we had just gone to Kabob and Curry instead. The food is amazing and the prices can't be beat. The combo plates are perfect for trying new things. I recently got a cauliflower dish off the vegetarian menu and I literally dream about getting it again.

Loved the food. It was aromatic, rich, spicy. Most indian restaurants customize their dishes for the American palate (which often becomes an excuse to under season the food), hence I refrain myself from eating at such places. Kabob and Curry was a pleasant surprise- it was authentic! If you'd like it spicer just let them know. We got samosa chat (spicy), black dal, basmati rice, vegetable korma. I loved everything, but my favorite has to be the aromatic, long grain basmati, with just the right amount of clove. My apartment smelled heavenly. I highly recommend them. Will order again. Their online ordering was hassle free, fast delivery, courteous and well mannered staff. What's not to love?!

I had the Saturday Thali in which you get three choices of curries/entrees, rice, and naan for 10 dollars. The flavors were all there, but I must say that my meal was more rice and naan then anything else. There must have been 1/4 a cup of curry in each of three tiny bowls that comes with the thali. With the mango chicken I ordered, I had two tiny slivers of chicken. Point is..the portion sizes are very small with the Thali and I think next time I would just order off the regular menu. Overall, Kabob and Curry is a staple on Thayer street and even though it may not be my favorite place to eat, I still find myself back here from time to time.

Food: Indian food is definitely some of my favorite food to have when I am eating out and Kabob and Curry has always been my go-to spot for both dine-in and take-out. I usually order the Chicken Tikka Masala entree with some sides (various Naan breads, samosas, or pakoras) and it never fails to deliver that intoxicating and aromatic blend of flavors that I crave. Their buffet is also to die for as they do not appear to lower the quality of their food during buffets like other restaurants may do. Ambiance: There are two levels of seating and both are nice. If you are looking for more intimate seating, see if you can get a spot above away from the kitchen and entrance. Service: No problems with service. The staff are very friendly and efficient. Overall: It's one of my favorite restaurants in all of RI. Highly recommend.

Just had an amazing lunch there today. Having lived in this area for the past 15 years, I could just kick myself for not coming here sooner. The spicy coconut mushroom soup was a great way to start. Have a great bread selection. The entrées were fresh with rich flavors. I was just in India two months ago. These flavors took me back. Nice casual atmosphere. Happy space. A good place to meet up with others. The air-conditioning was on full blast. Plan accordingly if you going on a hot day. Enjoy.

I've yet to find an Indian restaurant I love as much as Kabob & Curry since leaving Providence. Their lamb curry, their naan, their Sunday brunch - I miss it all so much. I can't wait to visit Providence to eat here again. (Given the crowds during Brown's reunion weekend, etc, I'd say I'm not the only one who feels this way!) I should mention that parking is a nightmare, (wasn't an issue for me at the time,) and it isn't great when it comes to accessibility for wheelchairs or the disabled. There are steps up to the door, and the interior is quite cramped.

  • Steve W.

The food is very good. I especially like the tandoori chicken and the chicken shashlik. I also like the samosas and the potato dosa. I come to Kabob and Curry a lot and I have never found problems with the food. The food is never too spicy for me and has a lot of flavor. However the service is inconsistent. Also the tables are cramped.

Conveniently located on Thayer Street to serve the student denizens, Kabob and Curry is a quick, easy stop if you're looking for Indian food in the area. Their lunch prices are very reasonable, and you receive a fairly filling portion for under $10. Furthermore, if you are a student, you can flash your ID to receive an additional discount--this policy isn't advertised, though. I personally am not the biggest fan of most of their dishes as many are westernised versions of the original, but their saag paneer is probably my favourite. Be warned that service is very hit or miss, though--it honestly depends on how frequent a customer you are, and which side of the bed your server woke up on.

I am really picky about Indian food. As a 15 year veteran of Kabob and Curry, this is superior Indian cuisine. Master Chef Sanjiv Daar and all of his other restaurants RASA in East Greenwich and Rasoi In Pawtucket, offer the finest Indian food anywhere on the planet. I go all over the world, I have lived in India and sample Indian restuarants everywhere. Kabob and Curry is one of the finest. In my viewpoint, Indian cuisine, Indian food is everything.

I don't have a lot of opinions or knowledge of Indian food. It either tastes good to me or it doesn't, and I'm not going to get bogged down in a discussion about authenticity. So, if you're like me and you just want to know if a place makes good food rather than hemming and hawing about details, let me tell you, Kabob and Curry makes good Indian food. I've been here half a dozen times, and it's never not good. Service is always prompt, and they never keep you waiting for the bill. More restaurants should be like Kabob and Curry in terms of their service. They don't rush you, but you don't fell like you're ever going to be stranded at a table yearning for drink or the bill so you can get on with your life. I've liked everything I've tried here, and the restaurant itself is broken up into many small sections so you don't feel like you're eating in a cafeteria. It also makes it easier to find your server, though honestly, he usually knows when you need something before you do so that's a bit of a non-issue.

The food here is very good, however the service varies on every visit. The lamb samosas are always delicious as well as their Tamarind margaritas. The reason I will never return here is for the following reasons 1. several waiters stood near the bar area and persisted to peek at me for my entire meal 2. my waiter closed my account before I could order another drink, and brought me my check within 4 minutes of serving my food while repeatedly saying to me"we're not rushing you, we're not rushing you", but you are rushing me.

I stopped by to order lunch to-go after finding this place - and it's gluten-free options - on Yelp. My lamb saag was ready in less than 10 minutes. Delicious and quick, what's not to love?

Hands down one of the best Indian restaurants I have frequented. So far I've had the pleasure of trying out a dish from every category and even the Sunday Buffet, and Kabob and Curry never failed to impress. The flavors are wonderful, and the ambiance also very enjoyable.

    (5)
  • Julie Y.

Scrumptious Sunday buffet! It's all you can eat, so go slow ;) Prices are very reasonable and the food is great, especially for a "buffet". I've also been here for dinner. They offer a lot of coupons throughout the year, so be on the look out to get a discount! My favorite part of the menu is that they cater to all dietary needs. You can't go wrong. Spicy, Dairy Free, Gluten Free, Vegan. It's great!!

  • Bryce A.

A Brunonian favorite, when in doubt my friends and I always eat here. The staff are incredibly friendly and remember most of our names. The food is good, mostly curries with rice or naan. I like their dosas, which are like crispy Indian crepes filled with curried potatoes. None of the food is spicy, but it is not at all bland. The prices are very GOOD for lunch during the week and BAD for lunch on the weekend or dinner on any day of the week. Basically the price and portion are doubled for dinner and weekends, which is not a good thing since meals go from perfect sized portions at under ten bucks to monster portions at twenty bucks. The catering is also quite good. It is everyone's favorite in the Brown CS department, often drawing crowds of students to tech talks and whatnot. In short, if you are on Thayer St, Kabob is a good bet. If you are there at dinner time, bring a friend and split the meal. UPDATE 05/12/14: --------------------- I forgot to mention that if you are a student, give your server your student ID with the bill. You'll get 10% off!

This is hands down my favorite restaurant in Providence. The food is out of this world, the owner, management, and staff are friendly and courteous, and meals come quickly. I love to get take-out, eat-in, and I especially love to bring folks visiting Providence in for a meal. The catering is also excellent, with the same quality food for a reasonable price. The menu is full of gluten-free and vegan items that taste AMAZING, and as a very sensitive Celiac sufferer, I can say that I have NEVER had a problem in easily the 100 meals I have eaten there over the years. Seriously, if you are not already on your way to Kabob and Curry, you should be. Like RIGHT NOW!

Great food, for take away, unless you want to stay and subject yourself to contemporary Indian pop and dance music blasting in your ear, but not loud enough to drown out lame college student conversations. Also, "not very spicy, please" in this place means "please burn off the lining of my mouth," evidently. You are better off driving 1.5 miles up Hope Street and going to "Not Just Snacks" Indian restaurant.

Always loved here. It's a great Indian restaurant. The dishes are pretty looking and their food is great. Even though it's a big small inside the restaurant, I think the most important thing is the taste of the food. Because the house captures great sunshine so the whole restaurant makes me feel warm and happy. I have been there for more than 10 times. They are NOT EXPENSIVE at all. Me and my friend went there and ordered 1 side dish and two proper entree. It only costed us 26 dollars in total but we feel like our tummies were so satisfied! They really do serve a right amount of the food (doesn't make your tummy feel overwhelmed with all the food nor make your tummy feel empty after eating it). I totally recommend this awesome awesome place if you like Indian food.

Stop reading this and come to this place! Every second you spend reading, what may be the most glamorous review I've ever written in Yelp history, is a second you could be enjoying the best and most reasonably priced Indian food in all of New England. Where to begin, I wanted to give this place a try since I had a $25 Restaurant.com coupon to spend. Despite the disclaimer that I couldn't use it on a weekend, I called up the establishment and the manager personally spoke to me and ensured that he would do whatever he can to honor the deal. At first, I thought this was merely showmanship, and he was only going to go back on his offer when I arrived, but I was foolishly mistaken. Upon arrival, the manager came up to meet us in person and thanked us for dining at Kabob and Curry and personally ensured us we were able to use the coupon! I knew at that moment that this place was gonna be awesome! As for the food, OMG (yes, it's just that good), it blew my mind and certainly loosened a couple of inches on my belt after what I can only describe as my best Indian food experience of my life. My favorite aspect of this place is that the menu offers a super-reasonable tasting dish that combined 2 different curries, 2 vegetable dishes, nan, and samosas for only $12 ($15 for meet)! I came here with my parents and for $30, had sampled 12 different types of food! My only complaint is that I didn't know what was what when all the food came in...but hey, it was all good! My brother did order a lamb steak tip mushroom dish, outside our heapfuls of Indian cuisine; it wIasn't spectacular, but it certainly had stiff competition. I had the honey-ginger nan, which I really like, but be warned, it has a lot of ginger =) To be honest, my knowledge for Indian food is embarrassingly sparse, but that's because they are unreasonably expensive most of the time. But with an excellent service and super amazing prices, I'd come back to this place, time after time and I STRONGLY recommend all your friends and family to check it out! Bottom line: COME HERE with an empty stomach and you will not be disappointed. Overall: Food: 5 stars Service: 5+ stars (hats off to you, Mr. Manager) Decor: 3 stars Drink: 3 stars

Whenever I have a meal planned at Kabob and Curry, I pretty much look forward to it all day. Like I can barely focus on anything else out of sheer excitement. It's that good. The standouts? chicken tikka masala shrimp and corn masala potato and peas naan chicken shashlik lamb samosas mango lassi Crucial tip: this place participates in the gift certificates on Restaurant.com , and it's kind of dumb to not buy one. It saves you a couple of dollars, at least. Another tip: go for lunch. It's a better deal than dinner and the portions are very generous.

    (4)
  • Jessica F.

Close to Brown University, and recommended by the staff at the Brown University bookstore. The chicken tikka masala is pretty bomb. So is the mango lassi. Both of these items together were ~$10. There is a bit of a kick to the chicken, which I'm not used to. Lunchtime dishes are a lot cheaper than dinner prices (~$4 difference between lunch and dinner dishes) and portions are filling even if they may seem small at first. Prompt service, warm and cozy inside (almost too warm). Good for small groups.

I've been coming to K and C for years. Slowly though I've sort of migrated to Rasoi, their sister restaurant as my go-to spot but K and C is still a winner. The enclosed porch room is really packed but it can also add to the experience; it's more ambient than the larger upstairs dining room. Service is good and the menu is very similar to other PVD Indian restaurants. They do a great tandoori and we always go through 2 sets of the chutneys. I've never had a bad meal and always leave satisfied. The rice pudding is so good. Overall, the portions don't seem as large as it's counterpart Rasoi, though. Plus you can usually find some sort of a deal or discount with a little snooping on the internet.

  • Alec R.

The food is good. The servers are not. They take a long time to seat you, and once you are seated they do not come and check if you have additional needs. The place is also cramped and mostly noisy.

  • Jack C.

Kebab and Curry always delivers consistent, rich Indian food. Their curries, luckily true to their name, have never let me down. They are a little bit pricey for the portion size, so be sure to look for coupons in basically any local paper or use the student discounts. Personally, while I love the food here, I think the best Indian food in Providence is that the hot foods bar in Whole Foods. Anyway, definitely get the samosas.

  • Sohini R.

After too long I am finally giving Kabob and Curry the love it deserves - this is a wonderful go-to lunch or dinner place on Thayer, as other yelpers point out. It offers the best sit-down lunch option for a business gathering, and the staff at K&C can accommodate groups really well, even at the last minute. At first glance, it might seem like the offerings are pretty standard indian fare, but things like goat curry and fish tikka masala and tofu-based/potato-based options make this friendly for all kinds of folks with dietary restrictions. And the chaat options are very tasty - I especially recommend the samosa chaat to those who have not had it. Other favorites in our house are the bindi (okra) masala and idli sambar. As a first-generation South Asian kid, I'm pleased Providence has so many solid Indian options. Kabob and Curry is exemplary and combines North and South Indian food, chaat and more exotic options, in one menu and executes them well.

Needed food for a meeting, 7 people in all Was craving Indian, went to the first place I saw Needed it by noon, ordered vegetarian, lamb, and chicken It arrived pretty soon, $65 and still hot from the kitchen It was oh so tasty, although I could handle more spice Yet the portions were large with mountains of rice! Next time I'll order it "hot," for I truly like the kick The food was quite great, oh so delish Ordered 3 types of naan; coconut & fruit was my fav We enjoyed it all, didn't leave a crumb on our plates Walked home stuffed, food coma and vision blurry I can't wait to return, next time there'll be no hurry In short, I give two thumbs up to Kabob and Curry

I have a lot of good memories at Kabob and Curry for my 4 years on college hill, as it was a really popular lunch and dinner spot amongst students from Brown and RISD. Though the food is rather mediocre, for the price and the convenience it is a solid option for those looking for a quick cheap meal. As a vegetarian I would recommend the saag paneer, the malai kofta and my personal favourite shahi paneer. The black daal and the dhai padri chaat are also good. To be completely honest the food is nothing to write home about but the prices are excellent. A vegetarian lunch (one entree with either rice or naan) costs between 6 and 8 dollars which is steal considering the portion size and the fact Kabob is a sit down restaurant. If you are with a group the appetizer special is great- for 5 dollars you get 2 decently sized dishes. DInner is more expensive so I generally go for lunch, as it is a much better bargain. Overall Kabob is a nice spot and the staff are great. My one tip would be to specify with the staff if you want your food spicy, because the food runs on the (very) mild side.

Kabob and Curry has pretty much become a staple for me. My friends and I go for lunch a couple of times a month and we also order from them for a lot of work related events. The food is great, I love the veggie samosas and the shrimp tiki masala but I have never tried something and not liked it! Service is also great, the staff is super friendly, and the prices are affordable! You can't go wrong with Kabob and Curry!

My first time trying goat and it was amazing! They also have great staples; naan, tikka masala etc. Food was a four- five but service was a two. My friend and I had a $50 two or three course dinner. The servers were very nice but were keen to rush in and out, dropping the plate off, avoiding contact. Personally, I like check-ins from servers, and if you do as well, don't expect that. Not sure if this is their motus operandum as I've only been once but it was evident the evening I went.

So far this is my favorite Indian restaurant in RI (although I have not tried them all) and it is such a guilty pleasure. Staff is friendly and the food is fantastic! I love how many gluten free and vegan options they have, and it is so great that they are all marked clearly. There has not been a dish there that I haven't liked and the appetizers are amazing as well. Um and GLUTEN FREE NAAN???? How excited I was to see this!

First time ever in an Indian restaurant and my friend brought me here. I've seen it many times but never actually tried t out and after this experience I love Indian food! I came here with my friends and got a pitcher or passion fruit something it was delicious my first drink at 21. Got some chips complimentary and we ordered the chicken tikki Marsala and lamb biryani rice and mango shrimp and a mixture of nan! Love there flavors of the dishes and the waiters was very attentive and funny. Def coming back. And go for lunch cheaper price !!

Wow, this place has really changed! It was okay back in the eighties and early nineties but now I really like it! In 2009 I bought a $50 gift certificate but lost it. I found it and came here last week figuring that it was winter and some warm Indian food would hit the spot. C and I sat down and perused the menu. (Actually I printed the to go menu the night before to plan out what I wanted and to see if there was anything interesting on it.) There are typical dishes and drinks that I almost always order when it comes to Indian restaurants like the Mango Lassi (a sweet yogurt and mango drink,) which I used tp always make at home but now never seem to get around to doing. Potato and Pea Samosas (like a crispy savory turnover,) are an appetizer I usually order too. We got an order and there were one for each of us. They have a special here where if you order 3 breads you pay $8 so we asked for the Honey and Ginger Naan (a tandoor fired white flour bread,) Chapati (a whole wheat flat bread girdled on an open fire,) and the Potato Paratha (a multilayered flat bread stuffed with potato.) It's a lot of bread but they are each different in their own way and I knew that we would be bringing some food home. Although I wanted to try a goat dish we settled on Chicken Shashlik (grilled chicken cubes in an onion, pepper tomato sauce) with naan and Saag Paneer (Panner {cheese cubes,} in a spinach, ginger, garlic and tomato puree) with basmati rice as the two entrees. The waiter brought the Mint Chutney, Tamarind Chutney and Red Pickled Onions to the table when we got the samosa. We went during lunch time and the bill came out to about $28. We were too stuffed for a dessert and we brought home leftovers. Everything was delicious. It was not spicy at all. I was a bit puzzled by the Saag Paneer though. I was taught to cook the spinach without tomato and I remember that they didn't used to add tomato back when we came here originally. I liked the dish, I figure that maybe it isn't Punjabi style like I was taught to make it. No big deal, really. The chutneys tasted fresh and weren't crusty or old in their serving ware. That's always a good sign in an Indian restaurant. The waiter was puzzled by the gift certificate asking where I got it and if it came in the mail. It had been from Living Social I think (It was so long since I'd bought it,) and he did use it so I have no complaint. He'd said he'd never seen one in all the time he worked there (7 years.) I found it hard to believe. I know a few times Kabob and Curry offered these through either one half off deal website or another. I hope when I return to redeem the rest of the gift certificate I don't have a problem with it. Other than the questions the waiter was excellent. The food was fast hot and delicious. Like I said it wasn't spicy hot so if you're inclined ask the waiter to ask the chef to make it hot for you. They charge for hot sauce. The menu is extensive. I am curious about the Tothali deal but it is only served between 5pm and 9pm so I wasn't able to get it. It looks like a thali dinner where you get a vegetarian snack, papadum, two vegetable dishes, dal, rice or naan and a curry for $12.99 or add one more curry dish for $15.99. Thalis are smallish silver dishes that you have on a plate in front of you and you eat out of with a piece of bread. There are many deals on the menu one for appetizers one for lunch and one for the brad as well as Tandoor combos. I think you could come here for a month and have a different dinner every night. As is usual with Indian restaurants there is no beef. If you are vegan or vegetarian there is a good guide on the menu to guide you in selecting appropriate dishes. Omnivores will not be disappointed though.

The best Indian restuarant I have had food in Providence. We went there late dying in hunger and came out so satisfied. You guys rock!! Food: Tasty and decent quantity. Even the papad and sides they give is so delicious. Service: While most restuarants close by 9 or 10, these guys are open till 11 or even later when customers are dining. Amazing service. Location: In a good happening place

Sadly, my second review this week that I'm inspired to write because of a bad experience. Devastated that this place has 4 Stars - a huge disservice to anyone new to the city who wants good Indian and good service. If you're on Thayer and want good food, service, BYOB, and a uniquely Thayer experience, head straight to Meeting Street Cafe. If you're dying for Indian, GOOD INDIAN, and great service, head north on Hope St. to Not Just Snacks. Service poor Atmosphere cramped poor value - high price for small portions on regular menu parking can be difficult Sunday brunch unfriendly and rushed I ate there last Sunday for brunch after Providence Monthly reminded me that they have a buffet for ~$10. Was escorted to the sun room. Not too crowded - warm feeling. Service was there... but very mechanical. No "hi my name is" or "if you want the buffet you can head right up and grab a plate." Except for offering alcoholic brunch specials like sangria. They pushed that down our throats every 5 minutes. One or the more terrible sangrias I've ever tasted. Syrupy. Straight from a bucket. Didn't finish. It being a buffet and all, I assumed I was welcome to have more than one plate. I started with some salad and a vegetarian lentil. We had been there no more than 15 minutes. Enough to eat 1 plate slowly and be offered alcoholic beverage specials 5 times. We were just heading up to have a second course, perhaps try some of the meat dishes, WHEN THEY WAITRESS CAME AND PLOPPED THE CHECK ON THE TABLE! I was pretty pissed - both at the total lack of communication and feeling kicked out the door when the place wasn't full and we had only been there 15 minutes. I opted not to say anything, calmly put the bill aside, and went up to enjoy a sampling of the meat dishes, including chicken tikka. My brunch partner ended up ordering a few more fizzy peach drinks. Alas, I really enjoyed the rice pudding. Attending college on the East Side, I ate a lot of catering from Kabob and Curry for student events and always looked forward to it. Great vegetarian options. And a special place in my heart for introducing me to the brilliance of tamarind sauce. I also like their palak paneer and celebrate the range of yummy naan varieties that they offer on the main menu. It's "nice" to have an Indian option on Thayer - but Kabob and Curry ain't worth writing home about. Or worthy of 4 stars. But they do have some good options on the menu. And their catering biz serves a niche. The only redemption from the meal was getting an unexpected $10 in rewards back from Swipely a week later. Which means that my just like in college, my meal there was free. And for a free meal it was great. For a paid meal, I will never return - especially with a guest.

Right smack dab in the middle of Thayer street and almost right across the street from the Brown Bookstore. Parking can be a huge headache, but if you drive around long enough there is street parking. If you are willing to walk a couple of blocks, then you'll find plenty of parking. Walk right into this place (pick the right door!) and you'll be greeted with a menu with nothing but various types of curry. I always seem to choose the same thing when I go to Indian restaurants but I decided to look beyond the "same" and choose something different. My first visit I had the mango/mint curry with chicken. DERISHISHNESS. Like my tip said, I also had a strawberry lassi (usually have mango). Excellently delicious. I do recommend this place and I'll be back

Delicious indian food, but for a person who likes her food spicy hot, their highest "spicy" rating is actually not very spicy at all. Other than that, I love their potato filled naan and vegetable samosas! I can eat them all day. Service is just "okay." The waiters are friendly and accommodating, but not all of them are fluent enough in English to answer your non-typical questions. During busier hours, service can be very slow. Kabob and Curry also caters events! My impression is that they are reliable and professional, though I've never been the person that interacted with them directly. The only negative that I've encountered is that the food is not quite warm enough by the time it is served. Take-out is also available. You can call in ahead of time and pick up when it's ready.

Ordered the Ctm... It was $14 dollars and not delicious at all. I didn't even finish half of it because I was so disappointed. The masala Pakistani restaurant, which is further so you probably need a car is awesome. Would rather drive there than order from here despite the convenience.

Not much to look at, but the food is excellent, the service is very good -- they go out of their way to accommodate "difficult" groups (kids, etc). I love their dosa, but everything I had there was very good.

This place makes some seriously solid Indian food. Being a lover of the masala, I of course went for the chicken tikka masala. It has this subtly smoky flavor to it, with a heavenly creamy sauce with just the right amount of spice to it. Wicked good. The chicken curry was good, as well, with a mildly spicy sauce that was lighter than the masala and extremely flavorful. The naan was reeeeaaaally good - nice and fluffy with enough to it to hold a scoop full of sauce. Also, you can have either brown or white rice with your entrees. What didn't I like? The papri chat, which is usually my favorite thing to get when dining on Indian cuisine. It has way, way too much yogurt sauce and not enough of the fresh, flavorful chutneys that make this dish fun and yummy. Sad. Also, the prices are a little high for what it is and what else is available around town. All in all, this was decent food and I would eat it again.

Fast, reasonably priced, tasty, and fresh. Love it. They're great with children, and willing to prepare dishes to taste - extra spicy, light on spice, etc. Buffet is a steal.

Arrived in a driving rainstorm. The restaurant was a welcome respite from the dampness and cold -- inside the warmth was blanketed by fragrant smells of curry! Don't pass this one by -- my husband and I were delighted by the complicated levels of flavor in our very affordable lunches. For less than $30.00 we had two heaping plates: chicken curry for me and malai kofta for him, along with rice, tea, a refreshing mango lassi, two orders of naan, and a crispy first course of vegetables pikoras served with a variety of delicious condiments. Oh how we wish we lived closer to Providence!

Another amazing meal at Kabob and Curry. The chicken tikka masala was divine, and just spicy enough for those who like a mild kick. And can we talk about the garlic naan?!?!

I am Indian and have the food from Kabob and Curry for free many times during the events happening at my University where it's mostly Chicken Currey and Chole (Chickpeas) Masala both of which are pretty average so I have never really visited the restaurant itself. Yesterday, my friends wanted to eat Indian and so happened to visit the place. There are many options which are divided in four - Veg, Chicken, Lamb and Sea Food. I had Homestyle Chicken Curry and Goan Veg Curry with rice and nan. Both were again a-okay. May be because I am spoiled with eating good Indian food made at home and in India. So I might not be the best one to judge for everyone here in US. Also, it's expensive, specially for dinner.

I must have been drunk when I wrote the last review, because it was so very wrong. Kabob is a weekly lunch spot for me. The food is amazing. My co-workers and I go so often that they know our orders before we are handed menus! The staff at Kabob is so friendly and nice! The food is wonderful, inexpensive and made in a jif! The portions are large, we always leave stuffed! The chicken tikka masala is what I dream about! The naan is also amazing! I will be back Kabob...often! You know what I like!

Went here for dinner on Thanksgiving when I was visiting a friend at Brown University. It was great that it was open on Thanksgiving. The portions were size able for normal people--we got the chicken tikki masala and mango and mint chicken curry dish. However, for two starving college kids, it was obviously not enough, as we had to ask for additional rice. Kind of expensive for a college student, but awesome (+1 star) considering we were able to use the Yelp voucher for our meal.

I hadn't had Indian food since moving to Providence and was feeling a little deprived ... no longer! What an awesome neighborhood gem. I am full and happy and so so so looking forward to returning (soon*! The menu is really extensive. They have food from all over India, so you can have tandoori chicken, dosas, biryani, or whatever else might strike your fancy. My dining companion had never eaten Indian food so between us we sampled a pretty wide range. We started out with a chaat which was really delicious. I couldn't even tell you what was in it, but it was delicious :) We also had papadam which came with 2 sauces and a chutney, all of which were great and which we kept around to eat with naan and our entrees. For entrees, I had mango chicken and my dining companion had chicken vindaloo. The mango chicken was super-flavorful and very creamy. It was plenty for both my dinner and lunch the next day - a very generous portion and definitely spot-on for the price. The chicken vindaloo had really good heat but was not overwhelmingly spicy. We topped off our meal with naan, which was nice and fluffy. Yum. Service was absolutely stellar. Our waiter was very friendly and attentive. Two thumbs up! As a bonus, we were able to snag a Yelp deal - $20 for $30 worth of food. They also have a check-in offer for 20% off your order. So what are you waiting on? Go eat!

Conveniently located and decently priced. The place is little cramped, but the service and folks around are good. Food - Lot of variety, good deals on appetizers. 2 for $5 is a steal. My fav is lamb garlay, and chicken sashlik. Their idlis are good and woth a try. Smooth and thick mango lassi goes well with the spicy food. One of the best Naans in town, well marinated and perfectly baked. Dinner portions are big but lunch portions are smaller than usually found at other restaurants. But Indian dishes are a little heavier, so you won't regret the small portions if you are dashing back to work.

Best Dahl Makani (black lentils) ever. Really, I couldn't believe it. We also got the korma and mali kofta which were good also but the dahl was sooooooo amazing. I also had the Bollywood drink which was amazing. I'm not in the area much but look forward to coming back. They also took the yelp check in offer nicely and service was great.

CHICKEN TIKKA MASALA!!! I was a student at Brown from 2007-2011 and this was always my most favorite indian restaurant ever all because of their chicken tikka masala. It's one of those dishes where my friends and I would come and eat at the restaurant and we would all order it. I'm from San Diego and theres no lack of indian food places here, but despite a hard and long search for something as comparably good as Kabob and Curry's chicken tikka masala, I have yet to find anything that comes as close. This restaurant and their chicken tikka masala is definitely what i miss the most about providence. I long for their chicken tikka masala...

This place continues to be our go-to datenight nirvana. Amazing food with lots of veggie options, personable witty staff, fascinating people-watching and a fun downtown setting. We have been for lunch too and it's a really great deal, with two entrees and naan for $10 :).

I get kabob and curry cravings so often. The lunch deals are great. I really like the saag, idli, and the potatoes and peas/paneer cheese naan. The yogurt drinks are also super yummy and c'mon who doesn't like vegetable samosas?

I was catching the train back to NYC on Sunday and I suggested to my mom we go to dinner. She suggested Indian since it was just her and I, which worked perfectly for me. After a visit to Wayland Square, I wanted to find something close and after seeing the decent amount of reviews for Kabob and Curry I was sold. Plus I knew they were going to have vegetarian options so that was even that much more helpful. Upon arrival, we were seated right away. I had never dined here before so I thought it was only the one floor, and for a Sunday evening it was rather busy ... for Providence! I had already reviewed the menu before getting there so I thought I knew what I wanted but everything sounded so good!! We started the meal with the trio of dips on the house. These consisted of onions in chili powder with a little curry, mint, and tamarind served with chips. Delicious, the onions and tamarind are always my fave. I started my meal off with the lentil soup. It was just okay not to flavorful, I could have gone for more curry flavoring. For entrees, I had the Tamatar Baingan Eggplant, five seed tempering, tomatoes, and fennel. I was on the fence about this but I'm a huge eggplant lover and it surely delivered. It was sauteed eggplant in a red sauce that was full of flavor!! It also had a little heat too it but nothing overwhelming. My mom ordered the Chicken Saag: Cooked with delicately seasoned spinach. I didn't have any chicken but I certainly didn't turn down any spinach and it was very good. While it looks a little like baby food, don't let that turn you off. The flavoring was heat and curry, how can you go wrong?! Both of our dishes came with either rice or bread, of course we chose bread. I had the naan and my mom went with the chapati. I had never had chapati before but it reminded me a lot of roti. I would order chapati from here on out, its whole wheat and a little thinner, and still served the main purpose of sopping up all the delicious left over sauces. We also got an order of the mango chutney which was also another fave of mine! It was delicious topped on the warm chapati bread. Our waitress was so helpful! While I'm a slightly well versed in Indian food, she really was able to help. While the meals don't appear big, they were certainly filling and we left with left overs. It was certainly the bread that did the filling up I believe. For the 2 of us it was $32, and for the amount of food I thought that was very reasonable.

I am writing this review quite late, as this happened a while ago, but the last time I ordered takeout, the staff forgot about my order and I ended up waiting for half an hour. Out of pure luck, the manager happened to be walking around and asked me if I needed anything, when I explained the situation he offered me a free mango lassi. He said if I had not already paid he would have given the meal to me for free. While bad service for forgetting an order, the manager did his job and everything was resolved with no harsh feelings.

I really love indian food, and as far as places in Providence go, I do think Kabob and Curry has a leg above the rest. But I've just got to say... why the lack of quality service? I asked for my drink to be refilled twice and it never happened. We ordered a basket of naan and it didn't come until we were finished with our entrees. Is it just a NYC thing where indian restaurants have the best service of any ethnic option? That being said, I do think the food is pretty high quality. The Chicken Tikka Masala is exactly what you would want and expect from good quality Chicken Tikka. It's well seasoned, extremely flavorful, and wonderfully drenched. The chicken itself could have been better gleaned of fat--but I suppose that's expected with a mix of white and dark meat. The chicken curry is also unexpectedly unique and flavorful. It actually tastes tomato-based and relatively mild compared to most standard curry dishes. I like it when house curry is a little different--and the Kabob serves a cool, mild red curry that is extremely satisfying. My only other criticism is that they're a little stingy on the rice. They give one plate for two people. Is there a shortage of basmati rice or something? Can we please get a reason for rationing the rice?? Because we definitely did not have enough to go around.

I've eaten here a number of times and my favorite dish is the Lentil Dal. The service can be a little slow, they are usually busy, but we've never been rushed out the door. Continues to be a consistently good meal on Thayer Street.

We came from the NYC area to have... Indian food in Rhode Island? Why not? We'd have our fill of seafood in Newport. We arrived a bit late for our reservation for eight but we called ahead and they still held the table for us. There is a great variety on the menu. I liked how the menu pointed out what dishes were dairy and gluten free. There was one person in our group with a dairy allergy. I loved the garlic naan but felt the ginger and honey naan was a bit soggier than I'd like. I really enjoyed my mango chicken. The portions are reasonable. I don't know when I'll return to Providence but I won't hesitate to take my family here again.

Tasty, tasty food, and the menu indicates which items are gluten free, vegan, and/or dairy free. My go-tos are the korma, the malai kofta, and the bhindi masala (okra). The decor is fun and I love that the seating area is mostly glassed-in, which does a good job of making it feel bigger than it is. It only gets 4 stars because of the portion size. At least at lunch there isn't enough entree, although it is served with acres and acres of rice!. If you order takeout expect to have enough rice leftover for a second meal (but you won't have anything to put on it!)

Great restaurant that most definitely satisfies my cravings for Indian food. 10/10 for their chicken tikka masala, full of flavor, creamy, delicious with rice and naan. I'd say 8/10 for their naan, I personally think India on Hope St's naan is better but Kabob and Curry's samosas DEFINITELY beat India's. The service is accommodating, nice and quick, but their space is a bit cramped for my liking.

Kabob & Curry was my first Indian food experience and I don't think I'll be able to go anywhere else now, according to all the great Yelp reviews and in accordance with my own experience. Note: If you like Sangria, get the carafe. You can get about 4.5 glasses for $11 bucks! We went with six people and got: Appetizers: Combo Appetizer platter, stuffed homemade cheese naan, garlic naan and pesto naan. Note: Pesto Naan was the best! Food: Chicken Tikka Masala (4 of us), Tandoori Chicken & The Fish Curry. We were all out for our first Indian food experience. Out of the four people who got the Chicken Tikka Masala, only one person didn't like it. The Tandoori Chicken was great, but if I had to choose a least favorite, that would be it. I don't even like fish, but the Fish Curry was deeelicious and incredibly flavorful. If I went back. I'd probably get the Chicken Tikka Masala again with some Pesto Naan. If I was with a group, I'd definitely get the combo appetizer again too.

I like the low lit casual atmosphere of this little spot with the faint tunes of East Indian music playing in the background. Everything was excellent including the service. I also had the pleasure of having a Providence IPA (Tri City). The ingredients taste so fresh, and they give you the opportunity to salt your own food. There are three dipping sauces: one kind of sweet, a red spicy onion concoction and mint chutney. The lentil soup is a puree bursting with flavors. The pakora (cauliflower, potatoes, onion, spinach and chickpeas crispy fried) is great with the dipping sauces. When I return to RI, I wouldn't mind returning here. yum yum yum

Friendly staff. I had the Chicken Tikka Masala and Garlic Shrimp. Chicken Tikka Masala tasted like others that I've had, so that's good. Garlic Shrimp, while tasty, reminded me a lot of sweet and sour shrimp that you might get at a Chinese restaurant. I'd pass on it next time. Naan was a little crispy for my preference, but still solid. Service was attentive. I recommend the Tamarind Margaritas.

This place has always been a hit or a miss, Hit more often then miss. The Goat curry is always awesome but I try to stay away from their biriyani. Vegetarian dishes are also better then any other place in RI. It's located in Thayer street, which is the most lively little street in RI (near brown university).

Worst food experience. I was told the buffet is non veg and expecting a nice spread. But, it had only two non veg dishes and that too only chicken. Their bread basket contained one small plain naan cut into four pieces for four of us. Waiter did not cleanup our plates and service is very poor. May be we went on their bad day. They charged full for even my four year old kid.

While speaking at Brown University, a friend met me from lunch, and suggested this place. Although I love Indian, I wasn't sure about the name; sounded very quick service and not at all my style. I was happily proven wrong. It was a great little nook. I loved that the menu had things labeled vegetarian, dairy free, and gluten free, so that anyone and everyone could figure out something delicious to eat. I started with a mango lassi, and it was a nice big size, and very refreshing. Because it was all rainy out, I decided to go with the lentil soup while my friend got the tomato -- both will delicious and heart warming on such a drizzly day. After that, I got the mixed vegetarian sample plate; samosas, grilled paneer, and lots of other delicious fried things. SO MUCH GOOD -- even the fritters that were onion heavy (and I don't like onions) were scarfed. I also like that they brought a whole little tower of sauces, so we could choose which ones we liked, and add as needed. Service was great, almost too much at times, but appreciated in the age of often never seeing your server between ordering and the check. Wish there was a branch out in the Southwest, so I could try the rest of their menu!

Lunch (or was it brunch) buffet = DELICIOUS! The staff was SO NICE and they made me feel so welcome. They knew immediately who our friends were (they were waiting at the table for us and apparently it's obvious that I'm with the two Asian girls?), and we got up and down a few times to head back to the buffet. The buffet was a bit smaller than what I expected... but it was SO GOOD. The food was so fresh and just so delicious. I loaded up on their yogurt sauce and the red onion thing (I LOVE IT) and ate to my heart's content. Boyfriend also enjoyed it!! Such an amazing deal - may need to start hitting the Indian buffets around here in Waltham to see if anything compares to Kabob and Curry! I had to rolled outta there...

You all know I fawn over places with menus that explicitly label what is vegan, dairy-free, and gluten-free. Kabob and Curry does a stellar job of informing diners of their options if they have dietary restrictions. My husband and I started how we always start Indian food dinners- with some lentil and rice crackers called pappadum, served with onion, mint, and tamarind chutneys . I placed an order for two apps, both labeled as vegan and gluten-free! First up came idli and sambar, which is basically soft rice dumplings drowned in a savory, spiced lentil and vegetable gravy. This dish is the epitome of comfort food, as the rice dumplings are hearty and the stew is truly warming. A random sauce was served on the side, but I didn't try any for fear it may have had dairy in it! We also split the vegetable pakoras, which are veggie and chickpea flour fritters, deep-fried and bursting with flavor. I love the texture of these- they are crispy and chewy, while pleasantly tender in the middle! Lastly, for my main event, I went with their Goan vegetable curry, which is basically a medley of veggies in a spicy pepper sauce. Brown rice was in order as well. This curry is my absolute favorite here because the sauce is so wonderfully spicy and flavorful. They also do a nice job of packing it with a ton of different veggies, like cauliflower, carrots, peas, eggplant, and green beans. I ate about half of the entree, and my husband was extremely happy to be able to take some home for a later feast. I know I am Indian, so this is a bit biased, but boy, do I truly love Indian food so much, especially in a place that makes it easy to order according to one's dietary restrictions. Kabob and Curry's food is delicious, but their service, staff, and accomodating style makes this restaurant all the better. It's also a fantastic place to see and be seen- I once spotted Billy Baldwin here of all places! Talk about random, right?

I have not tried Indian food at many establishments. I do dine out a great deal and enjoy to cooks as well. My wife and I decided to venture away from our usual go to spots and try some Indian food. We were not disappointed with our choice to go to Kabob and Curry. We have been working our way through the menu. Saturday Lunch special has an option to try (3) dishes with rice and Nan. Great way to have fun tasting several options. The prices are reasonable and the portions are hearty. Our favorites are the Lamb Saag, lamb saute and baked in a spinach, ginger, oinion and spice puree. If you like spinach you must try this plate. The chicken tikka masala is also very good. Traditional Indian curry, tomato cream sauce, excellent over rice. All the curry dishes are great and basmati rice is always cooked perfect. A must try.

Came in here tonight and was impressed - great service, cool atmosphere and really good Indian food: -Shrimp Varuval - awesome -Chicken Tikka Masala - perfect execution of this classic dish -Tandori Sampler - really liked this combination of tilapia, chicken and shrimp -Naan - overcooked and not the best Naan I've had I'll definitely be back... probably to try the Sunday Buffet

Went here so my boyfriend could try Indian food for the first time. This was not a good experience. We went for the lunch buffet. The food was cold and seemed old. I had a little taste of everything and I can't say one good thing about any of the five items in the lunch buffet. Might I add, I know Indian food well. Every other Indian buffet I have been to has anywhere from 8 to 15 different dishes offered. There were very few dishes here and they were set up on a countertop. There isn't even a proper buffet line here. No one could maneuver their way out of the cramped corner where the buffet is after getting to the end. The restaurant is very small and cramped. So after trying to figure out if I could deal with this, I decided I couldn't. My boyfriend had had enough as well. We had a chat with the manager and he was so sweet. He offered us something off the menu but my boyfriend wasn't having it. We had to leave. It was just not a good experience. The manager is the only reason I gave this place two stars. Very kind, understanding man. My boyfriend says we will wait a week or two and try it out again. We'll see how it goes then.

Oh, how I love Indian food. And here was no exception. We had a large group, so the service for a smaller party may have been better. However, we were seated right away (and this place is bigger than it looks from the outside). The only thing that irritated me was the waiter hit my shoulder with plates at least 3 times, trying to reach across the table -- oh well, at least he apologized. The samosas are delicious, and the sauces they serve with it allow you to alter the taste to your liking. And they're quite big! I ordered the Goan Vegetable Curry and it was quite flavorful and had a nice bite to it. And the portion was generous -- I was able to bring home some for dinner :) A few of my coworkers ordered the chicken nanini and loved it, one said they would come back just for it again. The prices were very reasonable, especially for the portion size.

  • Corey A.

Bland and expensive. I love Indian food and am fairly picky about the quality of the dishes I order. I have lived in cities with truly outstanding Indian offerings, so my standards are set very high. Because this restaurant is located on the busiest strip of College Hill in Providence, I did not expect much. As at least one other reviewer mentioned, college students like their Indian food bland, so I hoped for an acceptable, but not exceptional meal. Even at that, Kabob and Curry underperformed.

Came here for lunch and enjoyed it very much. Waited around to get an outside seat as it was a warm day and heard the inside was warm and didn't want to be hot. When I got the menu one thing was the waiter hovering over me waiting for me to order. So I felt rushed when I ordered. However the lunch special of a lamb and vegetable dish was tasty. Rice was a bit dry however overall it was quite good. If its a hot day I would recommend an outside seat.

I used to always get the Chicken Tikka Masala or Lamb Saag, as I never knew what to order besides this. (Not a big Indian food person) However, a friend introduced me to the goodness that is MALAI KOFTA! And that's when I realized what was missing in my life.

Overall, the food is good and authentic enough for those into solid ethnic culinary experiences. The food is a little pricey for what it is though but not a deal breaker when I'm considering eating there. They also have this 2 for $5 or 3 for $9 appetizer special which I love... especially because their mango shrimp appetizer is $6 when bought alone (the waiter also seemed amused about this but hey, I'm not complaining). Chicken Tikka Masala is a reliable and tasty default when I don't feel trying something new, and their desserts, albeit small in portion, are pretty satisfying as well. Worth checking out if you haven't already

My parents were visiting for birthday fun, and let me pick where to go. Kabob and Curry was the first choice on my list of usual hot spots in Providence. I am found here at least twice a month. I have to warn you though, this cuisine is not for those with a weak stomach! Curry, Curry, and more Curry! Every time I eat food here I am pleasantly surprised with how delicious and authentic the food is. The restaurant is on the smaller side giving it an intimate feel, perfect for a day out with friends or a date night excursion. This particular visit, I was with 4 other people, all of who were experiencing this Indian food mecca for the first time. We started with the Samosas filled with green peas and potatoes (a must get if you find yourself eating here). They are so perfectly crispy on the outside with a piping hot mashed potato center. We ate here on a Sunday so there was no lunch menu being offered. In its place was a $9.95 all you can eat buffet. Normally I cringe when I hear the word buffet. I think of old food and germs! This however, was not your typical display of last nights leftovers. The layout contained Chicken Tiki Masala, Vegetable Curry, Saffron Rice, Sweet and Spicy Mango Chutney, Lentil Soup, Coconut yogurt Mint sauce, Tandoor Chicken, and Sweet Rice Pudding for dessert. All this and fresh baked Naan for such a small price, how can you go wrong! Three of us couldn't help ourselves and went for this option. The other two members of our party decided to eat off the menu.To start we all shared two orders of stuffed Naan, one stuffed with honey and ginger the other with cilantro and garlic. For entrees my dad ordered the Goat Mughlai (try pronoucing that to the waiter), that was made with cashew paste, green chili, garam masala, and coconut. Mom ordered the Chicken Tikka masala (roasted chicken tikka, creamy tomato sauce and fenugreek). Both entrees were served family style with a shared portion of saffron rice. There was enough food to go around and then some! Both said they were full by the end of the meal and had enough left over to take home for seconds! I 100% recommend this restaurant to anyone who is in the Providence area. I have never had a bad experience the countless number of times I have eaten here.

Food was great but I will NEVER EVER go here ever again. I went one day with my sister and it happened to be snowing shortly after we were seated at the restaurant. I never carry cash ever, only my debit card. When it came time to pay, I presented the waiter with my card. He said that he could not process the payment because he already processed the transaction as cash. I found that to be quite alarming and explained he would have to re-do the transaction. The server went away and came back with another much larger waiter as if to intimidate me. When I explained the situation ( I wasn't even upset at this point), the other waiter told me that I had to go get cash because they could not re-do the slip. I found it absolutely ridiculous and left. It is a shame because the food wasn't that bad!

Me to my Saag Paneer: Hey there, old friend! My Saag Paneer: You certainly will eat too much of me, feel very bloated, and spend the rest of the night rubbing your belly on the couch!!! Mwah hahahahahhahaha! And so the battle begins. And once again, I lost. Shocking. Mental note(s): 1. Although the sangria is delicious, the citrus of it plus the spiciness of most of the food equals an evening of acidic vurping. 2. Plan my evening so that I can promptly go home and take a shower because although I love this place, I don't like to smell like it for hours after dining there. Since I was with a party of five, I also sampled Lamb Vindaloo, Chicken Korma, Veggie Samosa, and Salli Lamb. They were all delectable. And I love their plain naan - dipping it and using it to soak up all the sauces is UGH. SO GOOD. I'm still a huge freaking fan. I can't wait to eat way to much of this food again sometime soon.

So far our favorite Indian restaurant in Rhode Island. Good quality of food, but a bit westernized. We have to remember to ask them to make is extra spicy to resemble real Indian food. Lunch buffet on Sundays is pretty basic. Ususally a paneer dish, a vege dish, a curry, and tandori chicken. But definitely cures curry cravings. Normal menu items. Awesome lentil soup, tandori, curry vege dish. The eggplant dish is not baighan burtha, but a good alternative. They have dosa during lunch. Remember, ask for extra spicy!

Tried their Biryani, Goan Vegetable Curry, and Dosas during my visit in the Winter of 2012. Everything tasted delicious and it's location right next to Brown University keeps it vibrant all the time!

MY FAVORITE INDIAN FOOD IN THE STATE. Very kind, courteous and efficient waitstaff and management.

This place would get five stars if I thought it was really worth the price tag. I got some kind of vegetable goan curry, it was really flavorful and had nice chunks of veggies in it. In addition to this I thought it was cool how they put the rice between me and my dining partner and told us to share it. That being said, if I'm going to pay $11 for an entree I better be able to bring half of it home. Not the case here. I feel like you can get Indian food of comparable quality in south county (Varanasi, Marcos) or on Wickenden St. maybe for cheaper. In addition to that the staff were pretty impersonal. The food was very good though, it was cozy too. I don't really know if I'd go here over somewhere else though.

Had this place for lunch. The samosas were delicious! I had the shrimp mango salad as an appetizer. Pretty good (big shrimp) but a small dish. I had the lamb bowl which was delicious! Especially with the yogurt they had on the side. The other dish we had was the chicken curry which was good at first but you get sick of it after a while. A bit too salty but all in all a good and cheap place to try. The only place we tried while at Brown though!

Incredible. No other words of description are needed. We've been back multiple times. Both the food and service are incredible. I was telling my coworker about this place and she told me her friend, who is Indian, only eats at this joint. And I consider myself to be well familiar with good Indian food.

I love Kabob and Curry! I used to live in Providence and my friends, family and I went to this place at least 2-3 times a month. The food is great, the service is even better and the waitstaff will remember you even after only a few visits. I was even able to bring my daughter, who at the time was only about 2 years old, there and have something for her to eat. (It was the tofu saag! It was and still is one of her favourite things to eat) The great thing about this restaurant is that they are very accomodating. One of the dishes I loved on the menu was Chicken 261-263. So I asked if they would be able to do it with lamb, which they gladly agreed to do. The results were so good that for a while they even had it on the menu! They will also adjust the spices for you. I personally like my food very spicy and they gladly went above and beyond to make sure that it was to my liking. All in all, I give this place 5 stars. The only thing that is a challenge is the parking, but this is not the fault of the restaurant. If you must park a fair distance away, the surrounding neighbourhood is nice, even at night, so you don't need to worry.

awesome food, hard to get to if you're not the parallel parking type (but what on Thayer street is easy to get to?) Love love love it here. I've tried something different every time I've come here and am always satisfied with the results.

I came here with a friend when I was in town visiting and food quality was really good. Staff and waitress was very welcoming and friendly and it had a great atmosphere. We were seated upstairs and it was getting a little warm, plus a group of 12 noisy teens were seated right next to us 15min into the meal so... that was a downer but didn't ruin the night. If I lived in the area i could see myself being a regular. Plus it was my friends first time at Indian and she loved it! #Winning Note: This is not the place to get a sangria or mixed drink, stick to beers and wine.

I'm in RI for a few days and thought that I would try this place because the good Yelp reviews. I got the garlic naan, chicken tikka masala, and yellow lentils delivered to my hotel. They were fine, but I think I have had spicier food back in DC. Good variety on the menu though.

I have been coming to Kabob and Curry since 2003. I was an Indian food initiate who was intimidated at the thought of nuclear-hot curry. Slowly, I made my way through the novice dishes -- Chicken Tikka Masala and advanced to more intricately spiced and prepared dishes. Finally, after sampling literally every single entree on the menu (please ask any of the waitstaff if you don't believe me). Jai, the manager is unbelievably courteous and goes the extra mile. I have watched this restaurant grow and my pallet has grown with it accordingly. It has been a favorite for over seven years and I go there around four times a month at minimum and try to bring new people with me as much as possible. Just go and eat, seriously.

They are sooooo nice at Kabob & Curry! I have tried a bunch of dishes but the chicken tikki masala is definitely my favorite. It is so flavorful and the portion is perfect for lunch. Also, the garlic naan is to die for (just don't get it if you are on a first date!). They are super accommodating - went here for lunch yesterday with a big group and had a reservation and we were seated right away. They also always have great deals and discounts if you sign up for their "VIP" club. There are a couple of really good Indian places in Providence but this one is definitely my favorite!

I come to this restaurant often. The food is pretty tasty and the prices are reasonable. Very rarely do I have to wait longer than a few minutes to be seated. The staff is very friendly and make sure that our glasses are always full. Parking is a bit of a challenge just because of where it's at. I think the portion sizes are ok, but several of my friends think they're on the small side. I'd like a bit more spice with my meals as well... I thought it was a little too mild - hence why I didn't rate them 5 stars. I will definitely visit again.

Totally impressed with this place! I went with a party of seven on a busy Saturday night, and they seated us upstairs almost instantly. Where can you go in Prov on a Saturday night with seven people (and no reservation) and get seated instantly? Awesome. The place was really hoppin' and you could tell the waiters were busy but they were really nice to my friends, several of whom were trying Indian food for the first time. They weren't just polite; they were actually really friendly. The papadum crackers they bring out are the YUM. I could eat lots of those. The food was really good. Better than most Indian places I've been to, actually. I like "spicy" but not too spicy (yeah I'm one of those.) And if you're like me, then you'll like this place. Big on flavor, just the right amount of curry, and you won't be gulping down water like a camel. Also, I just want to say that I love the atmosphere in here. They managed to use primary colors on the walls, doors and trim- yellow, blue and red- without it looking kidsy. The look totally jives with the Indian food atmosphere. We sat in the upstairs though, so I can't speak for the downstairs. We thought it would be a great place to eat in the summer, because they probably open those nice big windows when it gets warm. And there's always something interesting going on down on Thayer Street below. Highly recommended.

I very much like the stuffed naan which are out of the world. I also had the Chicken Korma which was very flavorful. the only gripe our party had was the inability of the restaurant to really turn up the heat. We wanted the spicy chutney to bemmuch spicier, but they couldn't make it happen. Otherwise, the appetizers were quite good, the sweet lassi was wonderful, and the restaurant's ambiance is roomy, and the service is friendly. I would come back.

A few friends and I went here for lunch one Saturday. I ordered the chicken and pea Dosa which came with a cup of lentil soup. I thought that the service was outstanding. I have never had a waiter pour my drink for me at a smaller restaurant. The food was just ok. Not quite good. My dish was overly salty and the spices were a bit bland. I'm pretty sure that the peas were frozen. They definitely were not fresh. Also the dosa was doughy around the edges. The dosa in general was not as crunchy as dosa should be. The lentil soup was too heavy on the sweet spices. Seemed to have too much allspice or clove in it. At best this place is good rather than great.

I don't typically like Indian or spicy food but this place was a regular of mine when I lived in Providence and I almost always go when I am visiting. The food is SO GOOD, and the service is even better! The ambiance isn't anything super special, but it's definitely nice and clean. I am in love with the fact that they tell you what has dairy, gluten, etc. Their naan is also the best I've ever had. The honey ginger is my favorite. My favorites are the appetizer platter/sampler and the pepper chicken curry.

I'd never ventured over to this part of Providence and saw the review on Yelp and decided to try it. I was staying in downtown Providence and walked over - a bit of a hike, but not that bad. Anyway, onto the food. I had the Vindaoll(sp?) and it was REALLY good. I asked for it spicy and it had wonderful heat. SPICY GOODNESS! I also had a order of nann which was also very good. A nice "extra" was where I was seated. I was out of town * alone :( * and the hostess seated me near one of the tables that looked out on the street. It was a great people watching spot and made eating alone more comfortable.

Not so great for take-out and their prices have gone up, but their portions have gotten smaller. They had been my favorite Indian restaurant throughout the years but they're slowly transitioning out of my faves. I have gotten burned naan and watered down chicken for take-out more than once and although I understand and am ok with the rise in price, I do not get the smaller portions.

Food is excellent and service is impeccable! The first time I went to Kabob and Curry was for lunch. The lunch menu is a bit more limited than the dinner menu, which is pretty typical. However, when I get Indian food, my go-to dish is chicken vindaloo and I was quite sad to see that it wasn't included as a lunch option. My fears were assuaged, however, when our waiter informed me that the chefs would be more than happy to whip up my favorite dish. I give huge bonus points to the restaurant for being so accommodating. When I went back for dinner a couple of weeks later, I was still as impressed with the service. My best friend was indecisive about which dish to chose, and our waiter was more than patient and very helpful. He helped her navigate the menu and the dish she ordered suited her tastes perfectly. Other general notes: They have a buffet on Saturday and Sunday. I have not partaken in either, but they looked very fresh. They also offer a celiac menu and a healthy options menu for those with special dietary needs.

I love this place! Delicious food served in a bright and colorful atmosphere. The service was very friendly and attentive, right up until the end. For some reason we waited forever for the cheque. That wouldn't prevent us from going back. Another plus is the neighborhood. Brown University is right there, and is surrounded by cool shops and restaurants. There is a Ben and Jerry's right next to Kabob and Curry, so you can go right over and get your ice cream on for dessert.

I have been to a few Indian places in the area. Namely Kabob and Curry, Not Just Spices and India. Out of all three Kabob and Curry is my favorite. It doesn't have the atmosphere of India, and the samosas at Spices are as big as your freaking head, but the food overall is the best at Kabob and Curry. The pepper chicken curry is one of the best things you will ever put in your mouth. Take some warm naan and dip it in that curry and you will never want it to end.

This is in the top 3 of best Indian food I've ever eaten (I think Bombay Club (RIP) and Punjabi Dhaba in Cambridge would be the other two). Great vegan selections. I eat Indian food endlessly, so I'm going to go ahead and say that I know what I'm talkin about. Very few things I can say that about. Vegetarian sampler appetizer was awesome, not too salty or overfried, the paneer is SO good (paneer is one of my favorites). I want more of that paneer right now. We also got the Vegetable Mango Curry and an eggplant dish that was not Baingan Bharta (I can't remember what it was called, Baingan something). Because we had a restaurant.com gift certificate and had to spend $50, we got two more dishes to go - I got the Vegetable Kofta, and I think this was my favorite of all of them. Our waiter was very bubbly and helpful too. I cannot wait to go back here again, hard to eat now at other Indian places that are not up to par.

I got into Providence late on a Sunday. Not being familiar with the area, I decided to look on yelp and stumbled across Kabob and Curry. It was perfect for what I was looking for: open late, good food, and take out. I got the mango chicken curry and chapatti on the side. The mango curry was seriously good! I was really impressed with the variety of dishes and breads. I also loved that i could place an order on my iphone. The only reason I didn't give it five stars was because my food wasn't ready at the stated time.

I went here a few weeks ago for lunch. All I have to really say is that it is decent Indian food. Maybe I didn't order the best things on the menu (a vegetable korma and a chicken dish), but I found that it was nothing to do a backflip about. However, if you had an urgent craving for curry, naan and basmati rice and this place would do. The entree portion sizes are pretty small, but then again that's understandable because they want to keep their prices low. A plus is that their naan came out warm and fluffy just how i like it.

  • Jenny N.

I'm struggling here; I want to give them 5 stars for their outstanding naan, but I think the curries are just about average. They are neither complex nor outstanding, but reasonably tasty. I had the South Indian chicken curry and the boy had lamb vindaloo, which was meant to be spicy but wasn't really. The meats were quite good though--very tender (the lamb was especially rich). But the stuffed naan with potato and peas? Oh man, I could eat that as a meal alone! It was glorious, pillowy soft and just so starchy and carb-alicious! Service was excellent and speedy. Our waiters were very friendly too. We were seated in a cute little alcove that looked like a converted sunroom. I'm sure it is even more lovely in the warmer months, but they also have seating upstairs.

This was a great Indian restaurant. One of my favorites thus far. They had vegan items on menu, could substitute tofu for cheese in paneer, and would make the food spicy hot upon request. The food was delicious, fresh, and was not heavy with oil; quite refreshing. The service was good too. I definitely would go back.

They have such great Indian food here. I've tried the chicken tikka masala, biriyani, chicken curries, the giant stuffed dosas, samosas, naan, and other yumminess. It's my favorite Indian restaurant in RI! I've eaten here as well as getting take-out, and the food is NEVER disappointing. Prices are cheap and service is great. It's definitely my top choice for Indian restaurants in RI, and I'm willing to go out of my way to make a trip there whenever I have a craving ;-)

This is a good place whether you are looking for your first experience with Indian food or if you're an avid Indian foodie. The lunch menu presents a bit more value than that of the dinner selections, however this is a great spot to unwind after a long day. The service has always been fast and the quality of the dishes have surprised me on each visit. Highly recommend this if you're looking for a place to take a date, especially if you're a person who appreciates discovering something different or simply sharing tasty food.

went here again recently for lunch--the service was really excellent---super friendly but i still feel like their portions are just OK. the lunch prices are decent + the samosas are HUGE. I had the chana masala + it was delicious-- their rice was cooked perfectly. The restaurant is small + cozy but that's ok! dontcha worry I will go back again...but its not my first choice for Indian in Rhody. If you want a little spice in your day, this is your kinda place!

Pretty good! The atmosphere was nice and the food was great. The aloo tikkis were well-seasoned, and the chicken tikka masala was quite dark - something I enjoyed. Being an Indian brought up on home cooking, I usually don't like when restaurants add excess amounts of heavy cream to improve texture and taste. There ends up being too much that drowns out the flavor. But Kabob and Curry's tikka masala seemed right!

I didn't find anything special about this place. Decor is ok. Food was ok. They tried to sit us upstairs with no air conditioning... we decided to wait, and finally just ate at the bar. Sangria was freshly made... so I'll give it a plus for that.

I've been a fan of Kabob and Curry since I was an undergrad at Brown, and now as an alum, it's one of the places that I have to hit up every time I visit Providence. Since moving to the SFBay area, it's a little hard to make the trek frequently, but it's definitely a must-eat. I've long been a fan of the lunch specials. a curry or entree, plus rice or naan and a mango lassi will be under $10 during lunch time. I used to order to-go quite frequently (1x/week) during school with other students, and it's quite easy to get something new every time, or just try your standby favorite dishes. They also have an interesting mix of North and South Indian cuisines -- both the heavy curries as well as dosas. My favorite dishes are their mango curries. I've tried to re-create the curry sauce as they make it there, and I can never quite do it justice. Either the mango chicken, mango vegetable, or mango lamb would be a great bet. If you get a dosa, their sambar chutney is quite good. Nice and spicy. The naan is also pretty good, as well as their vegetable samosas. On Sundays, they have a buffet spread for $11, which is a pretty good deal. Most of the curries, naan, rice, and rice pudding for dessert, along with the veggies and salad. It was a frequent after-church spot with my friends. The service is always pretty fast and friendly, and it's a great addition to the rest of Thayer Street. I'm always sad to go back and see that things have changed since I was an undergrad-- the disappearance of Dunkin Donuts or even Spike's, but I would probably be the saddest to see Kabob and Curry go.

Another place in Providence where I can eat vegan and gluten-free without having to call to make arrangements in advance. Vegan and gluten-free options are right on the menu. Good food, and it's fun to walk around the neighborhood afterwards.

Ok so i got take out last night and had the goat maghlai (spelling might be a little off with this one) Asked them to kick it up a little bit. It is DELICIOUS. However, I need to point out one thing, which they will be hearing from me as well directly. This dish had maybe... idk a dozen of so chunks of goat, maybe 15. The portion is good for dinner and lunch the next day (as I write this from my desk.) Mabye 5 or so goat chunks were attached to the bone as well (which was specified in the menu.) In addition, there were maybe 3 or 4 little pieces of bone (the size of my fingernail) that were just mixed in with the dish, not attached to any meat. Luckily, after i noticed there were bones in this dish, i proceeded every next bite with caution. Good thing I did considering the small bones that can easily go unnoticed can crack your tooth, or mess up your intestinal track. I am VERY disappointed, as the food here is very good. This goat dish is delicious, but i'm not going to risk harm because of the bones scattered through this dish. On an average day, this place would get 4 stars because of the excellent food and very friendly waitstaff, but today, sorry. This dish is a lawsuit waiting to happen. *The menu says "on the bone" which is fine... proceed with caution, however its lot like a bone in NY Strip where you can EASILY see a big ass bone and you know not to eat it. This goat/bone chunks are covered in curry sauce, so you can't even tell you are putting a bone in your mouth unless your fork hits it, or when you try to bite into it. Regardless... On the bone is fine, but I have a huge problem with little pieces of bone the size of an acryllic fingernail (perfect comparison now that i think of it.)

Pros: - TASTY chicken tikka masala, I don't remember ever having to complain that I got too much sauce in my life, but there was plenty for sopping up with their: - AMAZING naan! My girl and I had paneer naan actually (with cheese inside). It was delicious. - Great service, and super friendly staff. - Cute restaurant, comfy chairs and it was warm and cozy on a breezy and chilly New England day. Cons: - A little expensive, bill was $32 for two people, more than I expected to pay for two entrees and $2 naan. Overall: Win! I'd go back here, it's good food and nice folks serve there.

This is definitely my second favorite Indian restaurant in Providence.. and I'm ok with saying this on my review, because it's not an insult to the owners, since they also own my favorite Indian restaurant, Rasoi. Both restaurants continuously offer great deals and send coupons to those who have joined their mailing lists. This makes it an easy decision to return again and again. It also helps, that the food and cocktails are great. Sangria is always a safe standby, but they are definitely getting more creative in the drink department. They have a new and improved craft beer and fine wine list. They also had a chili martini that peaked my interest on my last visit, but I decided to wait for another time. My husband and I have our favorites for entrees, but I'm trying to branch out away from Chicken tikka masala. I ordered a paneer appetizer (DELICIOUS), and Chicken Korma. The flavors of this sauce were very surprising as they started out very subtly and gradually developed into something more intense with the more I ate. I thoroughly enjoyed every bite! We were also lucky enough to score window seats later on a Friday night - prime realty for people watching on Thayer St.!

We have been going to this restaurant for about 20 years, or from whenever it opened. The food is amazing. We have taken friends there who are Indian, friends who have never had Indian food, and others who know Indian food well. All have been impressed by the quality. I have a few favorite dishes (chicken saag, chicken korma), but my husband works his way around the menu. His particular favorites are fish tikka and pretty much any of the lamb dishes because the lamb is always wonderfully tender. We also love the Sunday buffet. I occasionally struggle to find more than a couple of dishes I like, being rather picky, but I know the next time I'll find more than enough. The option is always there to order off the menu, of course. Our great regret is that the restaurant is about 35 minutes away.

Great Hostess and Waitress. Friendly environment. Appetizer bread basket was good... Particularly the stuffed Ginger Honey Nann (Could use more Ginger and Honey though... Had same at "Not just snacks" which was a bit better). I had vegetable tandoori and Jeff had chicken masala. Both were good... Vegetable tandori nice and spicy. Waitress brought over a cucumber yogurt to soften bite if you can't handle the spice! Ordered white sangria... Not the best... Too much fruit juice. Also would have like a few more sangria options. We would definitely return.

There is so much to love about this place. The best thing is their consistency. Not just that the food is equally good from one day to the next, but also that they are consistent across dishes. Almost everything they prepare is either good or great. That's an accomplishment for any restaurant in any price range. I've mainly patronized Kabob and Curry for take-out dinners, and the head waiter always remembers my name, and is always quick to pass me coupons for the place. It's not a make-or-break kind of thing, but it is nice to feel like they actually appreciate my business. It keeps me coming back, even though Not Just Snacks is cheaper.

Only one complaint: It was too cold, insufficient heat to address the brutal February weather outside. That said: Food was good. (I had the chicken korma.) Cashing in the Yelp certificate (via my smartphone) was seamless: The waiter processed the coupon at the table, copying the number from my display, and then instructing and watching me as I voided the coupon on screen. Staff was courteous and efficient. Pleasant atmosphere. Wear a sweater.

Some friends of mine had a craving for Indian food, and upon conferring, made their way up from Newport to pre-game at our place, over glasses of wine. In Providence there are many Indian restaurants to choose from, and on this night we decided on Kabob and Curry based on my fiancee's pleasant past experiences (I also considered other good experiences at Rasoi in Pawtucket, and India on Hope St). We dropped in on a Saturday evening around 7 pm and were quickly seated and ordered a pitcher of sangria . After salivating over all the wonderful smells, we placed orders for potato and pea samosas, an order of pakoras, and 2 orders of the cilantro and garlic naan. These tasty bites were downed pretty quickly, along with the complimentary papadum and various chutney and sauces brought to the table. Keeping in mind that my Newport friends had intentionally not eaten much all day to save up for this experience, our group of four ordered up two orders of the Garam Masala (chick peas), an order of a shrimp curry dish (cooked with portabella mushrooms in a coconut and cashew sauce), and an order of the Rashimi chicken (cooked in a tandoor, seasoned with yogurt, ginger, garlic, and jalapeño peppers). This was all served with generous portions of jasmine rice and more chutney. The shrimp curry disappeared pretty fast, and the chicken was very tender and flavorful - made me want to replicate this one at home. The Garma Masala is always a favorite, and by this time our group had slowed to a crawl, given all that we had ingested. I sucked it up and finished the last of the Garam Masala, and upon being asked if we'd like dessert, politely declined (no more room!) and decided to head home. Kabob and Curry is great choice if you have a hankering for Indian cuisine, in the Providence area. Given its location on Thayer St., you know that there are quite a bit of tables being turned and that the food is fresh. The food is extremely flavorful, and regarding the prices - considering that the dishes are often served with rice, a table of two can get away with ordering an appetizer, and splitting an entree', to make it a relatively inexpensive evening. The waitstaff were pretty attentive, though there was a funny moment when one of the Newporters started to panic after they took away the chutney offerings after the empty appetizer plates were taken away. He was assured though (and they followed through), that the chutneys would return with our entrees. End panic.

I get that we don't have a lot of options around RI for good Indian food. That makes Kabob and Curry a favorite just because it exists. They have really amazing shrimp tikka masala. The naan is pretty good too. My main issue with this place is how absurdly expensive it is. The location is part of it, but I really think it's way overpriced for what it ultimately is. I guess holding the monopoly on good Indian food in the state lets them charge as much as they do.

Excellent food, attentive service, and great atmosphere. My first experience with Indian food was here, and I fell in love with it at first bite! The Chicken Tikka Masala is delicious, as are the potato & pea and minced lamb samosas. I was quite happy with the Naan as well. Top all that off with a delicious Mango Lassi and you have yourself a feast!

I miss going to Kabob and Curry now that I'm 1000 miles away for college. The portions look small compared to typical American restaurant portions, but I often couldn't finish my food! Very filling, quite tasty, and everything I've ever had has been meltingly tender. If you're looking for super authentic Indian, the staff will admit that most of it is adjusted for average American tastes and isn't exactly what an Indian would make at home; it's most notable in the spice levels. Vindaloo for me normally means, "the burning of a thousand suns is in my mouth, please bring me more mango lussi before I die" but it isn't nearly so spicy here. The price is right, too, and boy, are all those college kids with this restaurant accepting their meal plan lucky bastards...

I really enjoy Kabob and Curry - very solid Indian food. As with all Thayer street locations, parking is a pain, and the place is usually packed. It is a tight squeeze inside which is why I rarely eat in, but do a lot of take out. Between my hubby and me, we have tried just about everything on the menu, and I've yet to be disappointed.

This is as good as any Indian food in San Francisco, maybe better. What a surprise -- hadn't read review, just wandered in after touring Brown with my high school senior son. After a week on the road, we were cranky and about to board our long flight home. Stumbled upon this gem. I had the combination lunch, more food than I could eat, chicken mint masala (I probably have that name wrong) and chana masala. My chicken was the standout dish - never had mint masala before. My son really liked his chicken curry. We had the cilantro/garlic nan and it was terrific. If he gets into/goes to Brown, this will be a regular spot for him.

What I love about this place is how food allergy friendly it is. The menu clearly lets you know what items are free of wheat, gluten, dairy, etc. Plus they even have gluten free beer available! Sometimes I find the wait staff to be a little on the slow side and on busy nights the dining area to be a bit clausterphobic. I find the food to occasionally be a hit or miss with me, but all in all its usually always decent Indian food.

While the plethora of people trouncing onto Thayer St left Joe and I a little nervous about finding someplace to eat without having to wait forever Kabob and Curry looked like a winner. We were sat immediately in the very cute greenhouse like area. At first, I thought that was the entire restaurant, but after a mishap with my shirt (it was bound to happen, good thing I had gone shopping that day) I found out after searching for the bathroom that it was really bigger than I thought. We started out with the carafe of Sangria. Sangria?! At an Indian restaurant!?! Yes I was hesitant as well, but the price was right and we were rewarded with some of the most delicious Sangria I have ever had. Made with mango and lychee it was sweet! (Just how I like it). I ordered the South Indian Chicken curry while Joe went with the traditional Chicken Tikki Masala. We also shared some of the mushroom stuffed Naan. Let me tell you, this was THE BEST Naan I had ever had. Crisp around the edges, and soft and chewy in the center. The mushrooms were a welcome addition and added to the overall wonderfulness. I got my actual dish medium spicy and was happy that it was ACTUALLY spicy. I almost got spicy spicy, but I was happy I didn't. The flavor was a little lacking (There was suppose to be coconut in it, but I could barely taste it). However, I did enjoy the huge chunks of chicken. It could have used a few more mushrooms as well, but I won't be that picky. Service was a little harried, but that is to be expected on move-in weekend. Our waitress chit chatted with us for a few minutes and overall she was extremely pleasant, even letting us know that our meal would take just a few more minutes. Overall this is a solid 4 star establishment. I would love to come back when it is less busy but overall it's a great place. And yes, try the Sangria!

Back in my college days*, we would come here as underage as they get and try to order Kingfishers and flirt with the pretty waitresses. Now I come here and still try to order Kingfishers (and get carded) and flirt with the pretty waitresses. You must start out with a flight of three or four types of stuffed naan and continue the rock with the lamb roganjosh. Just awesome stuff. Friendly service, moody lighting at night, and a good wine/beer selection make this place a hit. * = may or may not have been a year ago.

Great food, service and clean - including the bathrooms. Busy at lunchtime so get there close to 12md. Naan breads are not oily and best we've had anywhere. Lamb and chicken also very good. Cheap to medium pricing.

Delicious dinner tonight! The biryani and the lamb kebab are excellent. The restaurant is directly across Thayer Street from the Avon Theater.

It's nothing too special in the way of a dining experience, but Kabob and Curry is definitely one of my favorite places to sit, eat, and talk on Thayer. It's not too loud, the food is absolutely delicious, and the prices are exactly as they should be. The service can be a little spotty, but has never been less than okay.

My girlfriend , and I were going to Waterfire and wanted a quick bite before we headed over, and so we tried K & C. We were greeted nicely by the hostess, who told us that our seat would be ready shortly so we went over to the bar. The bar is small, but the bartender was really friendly and suggested we try some of their signature cocktails. I had a Pomegranate Margarita and she had a Bollywood cocktial- both great!. We then sat down and had vegetable samosas, naan bread and some Dahi Chaat appetizers. Tasty and lightly fried. Our entrees included Lamb Vindaloo & a Chicken Biryani Bowl-just the right combo of vegetables and meat. We didn't have dessert, but stayed for a drink after our meal. We had a good time even though it i a small place-so be prepepared.

Reasonable Indian in the US type food. I had the Thali and it was all pretty good. The mushroom crepe was a new one on me and the other bits were fairly typical. Be sure and ask for chili sauce since none of the food has much spice to it. They neglected to bring me any papadoms and I also realized after I left that there was a dessert included in the Thali they neglected to bring so I was a bit disappointed in that bit of the overall experience. They did serve some sort of sweet chili sauce with the Thali but it tasted like canned salsa (really). Overall, I have had much better Indian in Providence but this was ok. Nice atmosphere with a view of Thayer st out the window. The Mango Lassi was one of those really thick ones that I like so that was a plus. I will go back and try the menu but the Thali special was quite nice. There is only street parking on Thayer St. so with the motorcycle it was easy but during the school year on weekends with a car, well, try some of the side streets. Service was attentive and reasonable. Overall, nothing remarkable, but give it a try and see.

Kabob and Curry is one of my favorite Thayer Street dining spots. It can get crowded, and the service can be slow at times, but the food is always good. Their paneer tikka masala is great, and so is the saag. Plus they cater!

Love this place! I've been here dozens of times and the food and drink never let me down. Friendly staff and consistently solid service. There are quite a few people I know that have had bad Indian experiences at OTHER places or have never had Indian food. I can take anyone here and they leave as fans of this delicious food! Their vegetarian stuff is great (like the bhuni gobhi mushroom matter) but I have enjoyed many meat dishes here as well. The lamb and goat are tender and flavorful. If you love garlic like I do, try the lamb roganjosg! Already thinking about when I can go back and can't wait to eat my leftovers!! PS. The naan is awesome and comes in many varieties!

Go: definitely for Sunday buffet, maybe for lunch, never for dinner. Kabob and Curry does a good job of bringing quality Indian food to the somewhat lean pickings on Thayer. True, the spices are distinctly Americanized and you won't get the kick and subtlety of a more authentic Indian restaurant, but in terms of quality and care of preparation, it passes. My big beef was with the portion sizes at dinner. TINY. Though prices at dinner are significantly higher than lunch, the portions remain small and utterly unsatisfying. If you're a hungry college student, dinner is a no-no. I've never had lunch, but it seems fine for the price point. Sunday buffet is what it's all about. Since you're not going here for the authenticity, why not just eat your fill of doughy but satisfying naan, dumbed-down but still juicy chicken tikka masala, and underspiced but passable vegetable curry? For all your Indian-influenced carbs, meats, lentils, and veggies, the buffet is the way to go. Oh, but the eggplant IS very good and you might want to break the buffet rule to get a taste.

of all the places on thayer, this is the first place i would recommend to anyone. they have great chicken tikka masala, saag, and lamb curry. the meat is actually tender and flavorful unlike a lot of places in general that think drenching dry meat in curry is enough. their naan is, hands down, the absolute best ive ever had. it's melt-in-your-mouth soft, fresh, steaming hot, and the perfect texture. my friends and i ordered another order of just plain naan to go but we ended up eating that at the table before the check came anyway. the waiter gave us a funny look but then just chuckled - he's probably used to people gorging themselves off their naan. the service here is great. everyone is so friendly and professional, and the food comes out very quickly. the best deal for coming here is for sunday brunch where it's just $10 per person for an all you can eat buffet of various dishes that aren't the same every week [so you might wanna check before hand].

You can't really go wrong with naan and curry. The chicken tikka marsala was pretty good, always a favorite for me at curry places! The naan was fresh tasting, but slightly burnt. Three stars because it didn't really stand out, but it's hard to mess up naan and curry!

Great place on the popular Thayer Str. The food was well prepared and delicious. Their mango lassi was damn sweet and one of the best beverages I've had the pleasure of drinking. Service was friendly and quick. The decor was colorful as we were out in their outcropped 4-season room. Their other dining rooms were more conventional but I liked being able to see out onto Thayer. I had the Tiki Marsala sampler ($17) which had tilapia, lamb, chicken, and shrimp. it also had some lentil soup and basmati rice with it. Way more food than I needed but it tasted great. The lamb was a bit dry and it did lack spiciness but still tasted great. My wife had the Mango Vegetable curry ($11), which had a very sweet curry on mushrooms, cauliflower, carrots, peas, potatoes and green beans. Also very good and great with the roti ($2) we got. I used a groupon with this meal and we ate like kings. I did feel a tiny bit bad about using the groupon but it was a hell of a meal for a small price that I'd be happy to go back and give them more business.

We came after coming in at TF Green for the Sunday buffet, which was delicious! It was perfect for the cold, damp, snowy day (especially after returning from warmer climes). There were plenty of vegetarian/vegan choices. The salads were fresh, with tasty dressings. The naan was very good. We really appreciated that our 5yo had a kids' buffet price since he doesn't really eat that much.

Delicious curry's can be found here. Why 4 stars? Well, Indian food by its very nature is cheap to make food. Especially considering 50-65% of your portion will be rice if you order a curry. Why should a plate of curry cost $13 give or take? If you go order some somosas and the vegetable mango curry. The waiting staff can become impatient if you take too long to eat. (After 25 minutes since we got our food they seemed to be rushing us). Basically I come here once or twice a year.

I LOVE the chicken tikki marsala and the tandoori chicken my husband had. The service was EXCELLENT. I would go back just because of the service. The front door is a bit hard to find. We almost walked into their kitchen. Parking is a bit tricky, but that goes with any place in a college town/city. I love it and highly recommend this place!!!!

Unable to satisfy my Indian cravings in my own town (the two Indian restaurants that were year 3+ years ago have since closed), I have stopped into Kabob & Curry twice while on Thayer and very much enjoyed it. The service has always been very friendly, the food flavorful and consistent. We usually enjoy the vegetarian sampler appetizer, the chicken tikki masala, lamb vindaloo, and a side of naan. So good! I have always wanted to try the smoothies here, will have to try that next time. The seating area out in the glass room can feel a bit cramped/claustrophobic, but it's still a nice, bright area to dine. The larger dining area seems to be upstairs but I have never eaten there. All in all, Kabob & Curry will satisfy your craving for Indian! :)

Another tasty Indian restaurant in Providence. In comparison to the other local choices, this place probably has the smallest portions and the tightest seating. Kabob & Curry is owned by the same person as Rasoi just up the street in Pawtucket which I prefer, but definitely, still a good eat.

  • Min L.

Kabob and Curry has become one of my family's standard restaurants to eat at in Providence. With all the interesting restaurants in the area, we usually like to try a different one each time we're in town visiting my sister, but when we're too lazy or hungry to decide on a new place, we'll go to Kabob and Curry. The food is reliably good...it's not the most amazing curry I've ever had, but it's good enough that I know I'll be satisfied and full by the end of the meal. The waiters here are always very friendly and attentive, which is an added plus.

This is who I measure all Indian food up against. Chicken tikka masala, vegetable mango curry, tandoori chicken, garlic naan and mango lassi finished with some golab jamun is what we always get. Delicious every time!!! Food is just as good as their sister, Rasoi, but it's just more crowded being on Thayer St. near all the Brown University students.

I'm not a fan of Indian food, but I do like the rice and bread basket at Kabob and Curry. I know that sounds like an odd order (everyone tells me so - lol), but I order it every time. The lamb naan and poori bread are very good. Good service.

I love this place! AWESOME FOOD! Great service, great atmosphere, great area, and consistent! Parking is a b*tch, but it's Thayer Street, what do you expect? Some tables are a bit small, so it's a juggling act to keep the wine and dinner on the table at the same time, but so worth it! I have to roll myself out when finished and I still have leftovers.

    (5)
  • Sunny S.

very expensive and the food is bland, what really bugs me about the place is that no matter i eat whether its chicken masala or dal or aloo gobi, the taste is the same, they must use the same gravy and spices for evrything the service was also not great, some of the waiters were rather rude to us, small dining areas which are cramped, will not go back

I'm not a huge Indian food person, but when I went for my birthday I was very impressed. I had the south Indian chicken kari and my boyfriend had the mango chicken. Mmmmm, just writing about it makes me want to go back again haha. We also got the bread basket which was soooo yummy too. The free kinda like chips-and-salsa-but-Indian-style (sorry, I don't know the proper name) thing was great too! The service was good, the table was a bit small but just big enough for the two of us. We were in the downstairs section. I'll definitely go back. :) Especially when seeing a movie at Avon on the weekend!

I was in Providence, RI last Sunday 5/09/10. I heard about this restaurant, so I might as well try it. It was a small cozy place with an added upstairs dining. The decor was modern, accessorized with Indian artifacts. I am used to the typical curry taste, but I wanted to try something different that day, I ordered Mango chicken cooked in cashew nut paste and mango of course. It was not bad at all, but I still prefer curry without the fruity taste. I also recommend getting the combination appetizer plate, this way you get to taste their different appetizers. The service is excellent, friendly and welcoming. Plus it is much more pleasant to drive around Providence, RI than in Boston.

I went here with a friend after checking out some galleries on Providence Gallery Night. I think I've been spoiled by Indian food heaven at other worthy restaurants -- Kabob and Curry was just ok. We got the samplers from the appetizer menus: vegetarian (2 veggie samosas, 2 onion pakora, aloo tikki, and something with paneer) and non-vegetarian (2 lamb samosas, 1 veggie samosa, a chicken kabob, a minced lamb kabob, and an aloo tikki). Some of the items were better than others. I enjoyed the lamb samosas but have definitely had higher quality of the other items. For a Thursday night it was fairly busy and the waitstaff were a bit off their game; we had to ask for water many times.

i went there today to meet up with my college professor. since i'm from north of boston, i really don't scope out the restaurants in providence so i asked her to think of an indian place to go to... and wouldn't you know... there we are. awesome wait staff. our server was absolutely fantastic. i felt like he was a long lost cousin. very sweet and attentive. the food itself was so tasty. she got the lamb curry. i had the lamb vindaloo. we also split garlic naan and pesto naan. i love naan and both were absolutely fantastic. the restaurant was clean and well managed. the only complaint i would have is that the waiting area for the bathroom is a little cramped with chairs, but other than that.. this place is fantastic for a nice bite to eat if you're in the area and in the mood for indian.

Excellent example of what Anthony Bourdain says when explaining that the best food is quite often NOT the one at the nicest looking place. In fact it hardly is. This is an okay looking restaurant with some of the finest Indian dishes in the city. It's pure joy to go to for your taste buds.

Wonderfully divine Indian food that is just down the street from Brown's campus. My sister took us to this campus favorite, and after our evening I could tell why this place hits the spot for students here. We ordered the samosas, vegetable mango curry, and a chicken kabob entree. The chicken kabob was incredibly tender and juicy, and the vegetable mango curry was surprisingly delicious as it was not over overpoweringly sweet. I would give it 5 stars except the waiter kept moving us along during our dinner that we felt like we had to rush to eat. Other than than, it was a great experience and I would definitely recommend this place.

Oh my god their curry is so good. So good. So good. Their meat wasn't that great though, a bit too dry. But their chicken curry was so good. So good. So good. The naan(sp?) bread was so good too. So good with the curry. So good.

This place is a very good Indian Restaurant. It is the second best one we have found in the US so far. Tons of variety. Great options for all types of diets from vegetarian, low carb, gluten free, dairy free, wheat free and children who like flavor and are a bit adventurous. Parking is a bit tough. Good service! Love the rice balls which come with one appetizer.

Living in Providence was all about this place for me. I moved across the country five years ago and I STILL think about the food here! If only they did delivery by teleportation... My favorite dish was the Aloo Mattar (potatoes and peas in a tomato-based sauce). The portions were always plenty, the price is reasonable. There's a reason why you see people waiting for what seems like a long time - it's worth it!

I agree that it's "just ok". Sometimes, you just crave Indian food in a really crowded, Indian smelling place, and for some reason I like the atmosphere... I go once every couple years. It's a tad overpriced, but what isn't on Thayer St.

We eat here at least 3x per month (lunch or dinner). Kabob and Curry is our all time favorite place to eat. Yes, it could be a little slow (only when I'm really hungry) BUT they have the best wait staff ever. I've never been in a restaurant where the service is just outstanding. The owner is always so kind to us. And the food is magnificent!

This was my first taste of Indian food and I must say, i'm rather impressed. I had the chicken saag and sampled my friends chicken curry sauce and some sort of tomato cream sauce (I cant remember the name of it). I was surprised that mine was the spiciest but all three were pretty tasty. I kind of wish they gave you a slightly larger serving but i think that's just me because my friends both had their food wrapped up to go home (jealous). Thanks to Kabob & Curry I'll be looking for more quality indian restaurants and dishes to sample around the city.

The last time I was here was back in 2005. I'm happy to report that Kabob and Curry still maintains its reputation. We ordered the Lamb Xacubi (spelling?) and it was absolutely delicious. It just just the right amount of sodium so that we weren't gulping down our lassis. Service was a bit slow but it was a Saturday night.

  • Erin C.

Kabob and Curry always throws me off a little bit. Don't get me wrong; the food is quite good. It just never tastes quite like traditional Indian food. That being said, they have a pretty big menu that points out spicy dishes and dishes that won't take too long to prepare, they sell Indian beer in giant bottles, and they make a number of foods that I've never seen anywhere else, such as the mango curry praised by Stephanie D. The prices aren't bad and the service is very good, but the restaurant often gets crowded and there is very little room to wait indoors, so make reservations if it's cold outside.

Fantastic Indian food. I came here for dinner with a few friends. We all ordered vegetarian dishes, so I can't comment on how their meat is. I got the tandoori vegetables entree, which was absolutely delicious. Fresh, perfectly seasoned vegetables--cauliflower, peppers, eggplant, mushrooms, onions. Some cubes of Indian cheese were mixed in too. It was served with a side of tasty dal and basmati rice. Friends commented that their food (chana masala and mango vegetable curry) tasted amazing. It was around $10 per person. The food was served within 10 minutes, and the staff were very attentive, constantly refilling our waters. The bathroom was clean, as well.

This is a great place. The food is terrific. Be sure to try the organic eggplant dish - it's outstanding. Even the pappadums are memorable, freshly prepared and studded with caraway seeds. This is our standing date night dinner place whenever we visit RI.

I actually have the benifit of two visits to Kabob & Curry on Thayer st in providence to report to you. The first time i went was this past weekend, and i guess it was at lunch time. they had a great menu, and good combos. unfortunately, there were a few really good looking dishes which contain cashews. i'm allergic to cashews. :( they had the option of combos, you could get a meat dish plus a veggie dish or 2 veggie dishes, and rice or naan. We all took that. I got a bhindi dish and also saag paneer. MMM i love spinach. they were both really good and all the dishes came with lots of food. no one had anything bad to say about their dishes. we also had mango lassis, which were good, though not the best ive had. the price was very affordable.. i adore indian food, so jesse and i stopped in yesterday again. we thought, we've already been here and know it's good so it's a sure thing. the menu had changed! i have to assume this was the dinner menu. the prices had gone up a little bit and the portions went down. there were no more combos, you have to stick with just one thing, which is dissapointing. you don't get a choice of naan, you have to order that seperately if you want it. and you only get one rice between two people. the actual dishes were only half as much food as we got before. i wasn't that hungry, due to my lack of being able to go to the gym, but poor jesse was left still wanting more food when we left. my chicken korma was good, but not great, but the lamb vindaloo was really delicious. we did hear people at another table complaining over the menu change as well. this restaurant lets you sit inside, as we did the first time, or outside, as we did the second. the service is good and it has a nice atmosphere. however, if you go, get there before 4. you'll get more food, better variety, and a better price.

one star for being in the area as long as it has one star for good service one star for average north indian food one star off for too much oil one star off for the high prices- if i pay more than 8.95 for subzi i want a high quality meal and this place doesn't deliver that caliber

I love this place. Going to college here, I got to know the wait staff and they just couldn't be nicer. I'd go in maybe once a week or every other week, and they always were incredibly friendly. The food can vary a little bit on how good it is, but I love the atmosphere the waitstaff create so much, that it doesn't really bother me. For instance, the curries can be a little watery sometimes. The samosas are great and I love the garlic naan. I want to go back!

Best Indian food on Thayer Street. My friends and I dropped a lot of money for a birthday party on a Thursday and everyone left with enough leftovers to last them to the end of the week. Delicious food. Many acquaintances say the Sunday brunch is really good; but, I wasn't that impressed (it's no different than any other day that eat in the restaurant). If you have the choice to eat upstairs or downstairs, here are my suggestions: eat downstairs if you want a nice view of Thayer St.; eat upstairs if you want a less crowded dining experience. The owners and staff are so accommodating: on the day of the party, I ordered too much food for me to carry buy myself so the owner stopped everything he was doing to walk the food with me to my dorm (7 minute walk away) and he didn't even want a tip!! Wonderful food and beautiful decor; although it can feel cramped, it's still a great place to eat on Thayer for a semi-reasonable price.

Amazing Indian food. Thayer St. is a mecca for students from RISD and Brown, so there is always a young, hip scene over there. Their buffet is great, and you get SO much for the price! Their Lamb Mango Curry dish is the best and will feed you for 3 nights!

I'm not usually a big fan of Indian food, but the lunch here was very good. The tikka masala lunch plate was good, with tender chicken and sauce that was just the right level of spiciness. The naan was good too, as was the saffron rice. The price is pretty good too---I've often found that Indian restaurants are expensive, but not here. Definitely worth a visit if you're at Brown for any reason.
