This venue has changed location again! (About the third time in 3 years..LOL!). Now it's located in the back of Sanchez Tortilleria at the corner of Atwells and Academy. Small counter with about 3-4 tables...it resembles the authentic taco shops that you see in Mexico. Four of us went for dinner and we took advantage of their Taco Tuesday, where all tacos were $1. I LOVED their chorizo taco. I will get beaucoup of them next time I go. The other tacos we tried were the beef, chicken and pastor tacos...all of them were also very tasty. The tostadas and enchiladas were delicious. All ingredients tasted fresh. Food is served with sides of fresh limes, home made pico de gallo, radish pieces and spicy salsa to pour on your yummy food....... Probably not the best place to come on a first date...nor a place you want to bring someone to impress...but this would be a place to bring your buddies, family or others that value good food, good prices and are more concerned about yummy, good tasting authentic Mexican cuisine and less concerned about "ambiance"....LOL..... Overall a winner in Mexican fare.....the ambiance is definitely basic...not fancy....maybe what some would call a hole in the wall....but you know.....many of the best places around....are holes in the wall.

Wow I'm speechless I just went a second time and the tacos are top notch. I ordered 3 bistec and 3 barbacoa tacos with all the fixings for 12.00! These are totally the best kept taco secret in providence. The chef is a nice lady that always gives a full mug of lime wedges and a mug of delicious fresh pico de gallo. EDIT: I have now gone six times for lunch and I still don't have a negative thing to say. It's so damn good! The huarache on the menu is also scrumptious.

I am a white dude from near the city. I have eaten Mexican food in about 12 states and El Taconazo makes the best tacos East of Mexico. I am not a huge fan of Mexican- but this is one of the few foods I can and have eaten every single day. I found El Taconazo in its flea market parking lot location. There was something I really loved about that atmosphere, it felt right. I was terrified when they closed. But pleased to find their new location is serving up the same incredible food with no line. The new location is certainly getting less traffic, and is in the back corner of a crowded store but the food is to die for. Get yourself a pollo taco, an asada, a carnitas, and a chorizo and you will not be disappointed. Make sure you use up every last bit of the Pico di Gallo they are making fresh every single day with Jalapeno and use plenty of their Red and Green homemade sauces. DO NOT FORGET TO USE PLENTY OF LIME! These tacos are truly tremendous and I would call them as good if not better than any taco east of Mexico. This is a family business I will continue to support for a long time. Really want to impress someone? Bring someone with an appreciation for spicy food or authentic Mexican to el Taconazo and they will become a lifelong patron as I and many others have. Do not be deterred by the new location- bad neighborhood- good people.

Angelina still has the magic touch. I found her over 5 years ago at the Valley Street flea market (that location had over 50 5-star reviews, but I can't find that profile on Yelp anymore...but you should know that a LOT of people love her cooking...she was even on a list of great taco places by Rachel Ray!). Anyways, the quality of each item on the menu is wonderful...full of flavor and love.

My son and I were so happy to find this place again. We loved going to the original location but did not know where it moved to. (Not knowing the name of the place didn't help; we just called it the taco shack). Anyway, a friend told us about the move to Sanchez Market and we tried it out today. The tacos were as good as we remembered, and as a bonus, it was "Taco Tuesday" so the tacos were a dollar each. We will definitely be returning.

Great traditional-style tacos! The huaraches was phenomenal. El Taconazo has fresh ingredients, well-seasoned meats, and plenty of flavor and spice. It's not a full, sit-down restaurant - instead, it's a homey combination of a well-stocked grocery store and an authentic taqueria. Definitely check it out!

Don't be put off by the location. Those who know the previous versions of this business will find the same excellent Mexican food-truck fare, now offered in the back of a tortilleria/grocery store. The menu is pretty much the same, with traditional-style tacos as the backbone of the menu, an enchilada platter with spicy potatoes, huaraches, and other authentic street food. The distinctive feature of Taconazo is that everything is fresh (the pico de gallo is glorious), the recipes are tasteful, and the food is meticulously prepared. There are some tables here, but unlike the last location this is not really a restaurant; amaze your friends by bringing them here for takeout

I have to say that I have had tacos just about everywhere in Providence and the surrounding area and I will always come back to El Taconazo! It is unassuming, in the back of a little market, but they have the most authentic tacos (I'm from CA) that I've had in New England. They are fairly priced and delicious .I always get the carne asada tacos and the chicken sope and I'm never disappointed.

I'd really like to be able to give them 3.5, but I can't give them 4 because I gave California Taco Shop 4 stars....and I can't up CTS to 5 stars because I gave One More Taco 5 stars. Three stars, a-ok, just fine.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
