I never would have found this place were it not for Yelp, so thank you, power of the internet. Deep Indian is all about the food -- as others have mentioned, there's little ambiance, but that lets you really focus on your fantastic meal. We came in for the weekend lunch buffet, and there were about 10 dishes at the buffet with some raita, chopped vegetables, and chutneys/sauces for garnishing. Nearly every dish on the buffet line was terrific. The saag paneer and the chicken tikka masala, which are good benchmark dishes to compare between restaurants, were delicious. The paneer cheese tasted different than other paneers I've had, and the sag was nicely seasoned and the perfect texture for scooping up with naan. The chicken tikka was one of my favorite dishes, and the sauce was terrific. There were also two biryanis, vegetable and chicken, and I found myself actually loving the vegetable one. We enjoyed an eggplant dish (the name of which I can't remember), and the Punjabi curry a lot, too. The daal was a little thin but still flavorful, and of course there's fragrant basmati rice to layer under everything, too. The great thing about Deep Indian is that everything about this place feels like home cooking -- like you're visiting an Indian relative in their kitchen and they decided to make a feast for you. The young lady who, presumably, is the daughter of the owners, was delightful and attentive. I didn't mind the TV being on, and it made it feel like I was getting a home-cooked meal. Also, when given naan options, GET THE HONEY GINGER. It is out of this world -- definitely some of the best naan we've ever had. For around $12 (including tip) per person for a lunch buffet, this was a great deal. I felt totally overstuffed in the best way when I left!

The service was terrific! The food was terrific! I have been looking for an Indian restaurant that served great mango lassie for a while and I finally found it! My boyfriend and I will definitely be back again and we might even bring a group of friends with us. Thanks Deep Indian Restaurant, see you again soon!

It's all about the FOOD... Lacking in atmosphere - plastic covers on the tables - but the food is still outstanding - it has become one of our regular spots. A gem.

There are certain restaurants where you just have to grade on a curve and this is one such place. From a location, ambiance and by any other measure (except for the food) the place is a disaster. It would be unfair to the uninitiated to be any more kind, so enter with your expectations set on low for those things and just go with it. It's so bad in fact that it's actually a little fun and humorous... like a B-rated movie. Now as for the food, prepare to be delighted. For the most part they make the same dishes that everyone else makes but every dish we had was unique and just better in all ways compared to the slicker places. They offer the standard 3 chutneys but even they are unique and special. It is obvious that the chef/owner has incredible talent and his pride is evident in every dish. High on our list of recommendations, try the Bhel Puri and Papri Chat appetizers. For entrees, try the Chicken Tikka and Murg Malai. For dessert, the Golub Jamun is pure heaven. The Tandori dishes were a little less impressive. It's so obvious that the owner is just barely scraping by, but with a little community support hopefully some day he'll be able to afford a manager, an interior decorator and waitstaff other than his kids who are obviously working purely out of duty to this traditional Indian family. If that day comes, he will rule the roost food-wise because no one else even comes close. Friends tell us their weekend buffet is to die for. We saw folks picking up take-out which might overcome the ambiance problem but I'd suggest you eat there since many of the dishes seem like they'd wilt if transported in a Styrofoam container. If you're willing to "grade on a curve" for the sake of an incredible gastro-gasm, get a few friends together and try Deep. It will only take you one bite to understand what we're all raving about.

Food 5*. Service etc: well when it comes to immigrant restaurants in down-at-it's-heels neighborhoods I'm pretty forgiving. Very friendly. If you go expecting finance district service I think the issue is on you, not them. No issues here with food sitting in the kitchen to be served cold, unforgivable at any restaurant. I had veggie pakoras, tomato soup, murg malai (American level of hot, not Indian), and mango lassi. All excellent, although in honesty I'm a subcontinent food novice. I would take a bath in the lassi it was so good. Condiments were a chilled yoghurt/cilantro/hot pepper mix, onion chutney with a bitter red sauce of i-dont-know-what, and a sweet red-brown sauce which may have had some tumeric in it. Couldn't really ask; the cook was there by himself. He spoke very heavily accented English very quickly, so all communication was one way. He understood me well. Highly recommended for those without a pole up their a%%.

Amazing! Thats the word to describe deep india! Although the area is not the best, the food was Truly Amazing! Ordered the chicken vindaloo, it was perfect. The sauce was out of this world. Best chicken vindaloo I have ever tasted. 5 stars all the way!

The four star rating is just for the food, because the ambiance, as noted by other reviewers, is pretty terrible/non-existent. The restaurant is one large room, pretty echo-y and the night we went, we were the only diners and the room was a little cold. There are also 3 security cameras, one pointed directly at the table we were sitting at, so that was kinda weird. Also, two TVs, both on, both loud, on different stations. That is definitely annoying, but I didn't ask them to turn them off. I feel like restaurant owners should know that that's a turn off (unless you're in a sports bar) and should keep the TV noise to a minimum. Or, at least have them on the same station so there's not competing noise in such a small space. I do think if the place had more people in it, it would have been nicer to be there. I think it would have felt livelier and homier, and since they just opened three months ago, they are probably still working out how to use their space. The service was okay. As other reviewers mentioned, it's probably the owner's daughter. She was a little slow, but she was friendly and came back to check on us. The food was excellent. And I would come back and deal with the cameras and TVs just for it. Or, get take out. We started with papri chat, which was really delicious- crunchy, sweet, tangy, creamy, cool, with a hint of spice. Really delicious. I would say they have that over Rasoi (who uses too much tamarind sauce, in my opinion). I had saag paneer, my litmus test for Indian food. It wasn't super savory, like I've had it elsewhere. It was less oily and I could really taste the spinach. It was different- lightly aromatic instead of super savory, and it was delicious, though not the best I've had. Paneer was great, and there was a decent amount of it in the dish. My partner had chicken tikka masala, and I think that it was the best I've had. The chicken was so juicy, it was unreal. The sauce was lick-the-plate good. Rice was aromatic and yummy; naan was a little chewy, but it was good. Prices are a little lower than other Indian restaurants in Providence. Our appetizer, naan, two entrees, and a masala tea came to about $30.

Yelpers, I think you have this placed nailed perfectly. One might quibble with a rating of 4 stars, as there are certainly aspects that don't merit this rating, but I base the rating on what I think Deep Indian's genre is, which is inexpensive, authentic Indian food. Hey, sometimes for good food at a good price, something's gotta give... First the good. As others have mentioned, each dish tastes fresh and homemade. It does not have the taste or feel of mass-produced, pre-prepared food. The vegetable samosa was terrific, with a delicious filling and crisp wrapper. The chicken pakura was a wonderful Indian version of "chicken fingers" and the papri chaat was excellent. The papris were very crisp and the tamarind sauce and abundant cilantro were also notable. My kids love honey-ginger naan, and Deep Indian's were exceptional. They were perfectly crisp, piping hot, and tasted like they came right of a tandoor (I don't know how they were actually made, baked or grilled). I don't know that I've ever had bad papadum (What's not to like?); that said, they were good too. All our entrees were also excellent -- lamb biryani, chicken saag, chana masala, and chicken tikka masala -- with tender meats, creamy sauces, and wonderfully spiced. And the mango lassis are fantastic. The not so good? As others have noted, this is not a well oiled operation. We actually went there the previous week, arriving at 4:30 p.m., only to discover that they close from 3-5. This fact is not well publicized on their web page (it is there...) or ads. This visit, we arrived at 5:15 on a Saturday, with no lights on, the doors locked, and the "Open" sign off. It was only when we saw the rear door to the kitchen open, with lights on, and knocked on the door, that the owner/chef opened up shop. He was apologetic and very nice about this. We were the only ones in the restaurant for the first hour we were there, and it still took us almost 2 hours to complete our meal. Not everything that was listed on the menu was available, which was a little surprising. And as others have mentioned, the location and ambiance aren't great. There are some minor food comments. The samosa wrapper and the papris were both a little too thick for my taste -- very crispy, but thick. Both the samosas and pakuras were too heavily salted. I thought the entrees were great, but my wife and kids thought they were too spicy (they are admittedly wimpy when it comes to hot food....). So again, why 4 stars? For good, homemade, authentic Indian food at a good price, drawbacks aside, I think Deep Indian is hard to beat....

It's obvious that the owner really does not have any concept of what a restaurant should be. Whether it's stemming from the outdated cafeteria style floor, or the teeter tottering of unbalanced tables, the empty deli cases strewn around complete the lack of thought the interior received. As for the service or the lack thereof, just let me say that it is true, that a monkey could've done a better job. After not having received all of our food we ordered, the only acknowledgement we received was "oh, sorry". And of the food that we received, it was so poorly thought out and haphazardly put together, it was as if it was an afterthought. There was more oil and potatoes in the food then there was any meat. In my opinion it is not worth the price, the trip or any effort.

I dined here with a couple friends,it seemed like a mistake but the delicious samosa chat changed that thought. The food is cheaper then it should be and portions are perfect sized. I really want this place to work, it has that homely feeling. The chef was very nice and tried his best to adjust the flavor and spice level to our liking. The waitress was polite and friendly but made a few errors in the orders. On the negative side the non vegetarian dishes had to much masala and the jeera rice had way too much oil in it. I really liked the place and will be back to try the buffet next time.

I have given good points in the beginning as the good was very authentic indian but now I would say it Used to be good food but now this place has lost it's authentic flavor! Never found open for lunch although the website mentions lunch hours! They need to get better with customer service but my only criteria is/was food.

We discovered Deep Indian when we purchased a Groupon and we were so pleasantly surprised! The food is absolutely incredible. Hands down, the best Indian food around! It's a family-owned and operated restaurant. The man who runs it told us that he runs the place for his son while he is in school. He is just the sweetest. We have been to Deep Indian so many my times, and each time he always comes out to say hello with a giant smile on his face. If you are in the area, I highly suggest trying it! You will be welcomed by sweet people and an excellent meal! (I highly suggest the Samosa Chaat).

Mmm this place is delicious. Terrible atmosphere, spotty service depending on who you get but really really good. I spent several months in India so I like to think I have some idea of what I'm taking about, and this is tied for best Indian food in ri in my mind. I've only been here with a Groupon but I snuck a peek at the menu and it was a bit more expensive than I expected for the location and space/experience but still reasonable (around $13 a plate if memory serves). They do a buffet on the weekend that looks like a fantastic deal and I'm sure it's delicious--on my list to check out. It's BYOB I think. We saw some folks who looked like regulars with wine the first time we went so we brought some the second time and they said it was fine but I couldn't tell if they were truly on board with the idea or not honestly. I might skip it next time.

Gotta love a good Groupon discovery! This place is nothing fancy, but the food is delicious, the staff is always kind, and you can BYOB!! Have tried the chicken tikka masala, samosas, pakoras, and lamb korma, and they are all winners. They also have a buffet lunch on Saturdays and Sundays for $9--that's a steal! Just don't come here for the atmosphere, which, unlike the food, is a bit bland.

It is with great sadness that I cannot give Deep Indian Restaurant, at least for brunch, a glowing review. Here's a disclaimer: I really liked the chef, a home-bodied man with a big warm-hearted smile and a talent for Indian cuisine. However, everything else for brunch was a disappointment. I came here at 1pm on Sunday, hoping to sample all of the great diverse culinary marvels from all of the raving report. The bins were almost empty, the food lukewarm, and there were no real dessert options. Our water bins remained empty for most of the lunch, until I physically walked up to the front desk and requested water; afterward, a large pitcher was plopped on our table and the waitress (granted, she's new), and then she just left our table. I assure you, this was not a busy day, and the single chef was playing both the cook, the waiter, and the cashier. No one came to pick up our dirty plates the entire time while we were there. So, why not 1 star? Well, when the chef brought us the nan, it came piping hot, clearly just brought straight from the kitchen and was delicious. The chicken marsala was also delicious and truly worth waiting for. I'm really saddened by my experience here and hope to maybe try out the dinner in the future.

I really wanted to find a go to Indian restaurant here in Providence that would tickle me so I searched high and low for one. This place was next on my list and ... well, didn't quite hit that spot. Let me preface first that it's good food but it just didn't get 5 stars. Like with most Indian food places, you're probably here for the spicy and curry. If that's what you're here for, well you will definitely get it! The hot and the spicy but where's the umami? The rice was also lower quality rice that was clearly reheated from the day before. Wasn't inedible but certainly would have earned them another star had it been fresh. They have mango lassi but they pour it in small glasses and the service was terribly slow even though we were one of 2 tables there. There's no air conditioning in the restaurant and the neighborhood around there is sketchy. If you live nearby and you want a bite to eat, I would recommend this place. But if you're trying to decide between this place and somewhere else in Providence, I'd suggest giving the other place a try first.

Yummy, yummy, yummy!!! Before I moved to the area from Vancouver, Canada I told my husband we need to find an authentic indian restaurant with eggplant curry on their menu. My husband bought a Groupon for this place and from reading reviews I was excited to come here. We went to 2 other indian restaurants in Providence but we were not impressed by them that much nor did they have the eggplant curry I was looking for. I think we were paying for the atmosphere not so much the food. We came to Deep a few weeks ago but they were closed. Later we found out the owner, Navdeep, was in India. So tonight we went (called yesterday to make sure they were opened) and, yes, from other reviews the atmosphere is nothing to write home about but the food made up for all that and also Navdeep's warm and pleasant smile. The waitress was nice too but I think she just got hired a couple of days ago. We ordered the chicken pakora and veggie samosas for appetizers, the chicken marsala and eggplant curry with rice, naan bread & garlic naan bread and for dessert the Gulab Jamun. Everything came out HOT, FRESH and SO flavorful. The best were the veggie samosas, they were crispy and not so oily on the outside, and the eggplant curry, it was just like home... simple ingredients yet so flavorful. I'm looking forward to trying their paneer and chana masala next time. Just make sure you call ahead of time to see if they are open, they don't have voice mail.

I went to Deep Indian last night for dinner to use a groupon I purchased and was expecting a tasty meal due to the reviews I'd read. I did have a tasty meal but I will doubtfully being going back any time soon. The restaurant was quite cold, the thermometer on the wall read 61 degrees... This was probably due to the back door being wide open. Not sure why the owner didn't notice all the patrons were still wearing their coats during dinner. The service was terrible. The college age girl was clueless and didn't seem to have a system for serving food. The chef seemed very nice and came out from the back several times during dinner to confirm what a patron had ordered. He might be a little too nice because he is killing his restaurant by continuing to hire the server. Again, the food was real good but everything was sub par.

Fantastic! The owner was very pleasant, and he created a comfortable and wonderful experience for us (my 8 year old son and my husband were with me). My son absolutely refuses to try anything new, but he actually enjoyed what he ate, which I thought was incredible. This was my husband's first time trying Indian food, and I had to drag him there, because he is extremely picky, and we're trying to work on that! LOL. When we first sat down and looked over the menu, he was very skeptical and uneasy about trying the food. He got a chicken curry dish, and to my amazement, he has been raving about it ever since! I got the lamb korma, and it was THE best Indian food I have ever tried. Needless to say, we will be back! (12/28/14 Update) We have been to several other (very expensive) Indian restaurants in RI, and have yet to find another place that can come even close to Deep Indian Restaurant. As we are leaving, my husband and I always look at each other and say "it's good...but it's not as good as Deep Indian".

mini update on my ongoing Deep vs. Rasoi debate (my current top 2 Indian around Providence, and yes I've tried all of them): savory gravy/sauces- Deep chicken (tandoori and chicken tikka) - Rasoi rice - Rasoi (bf votes Deep) chutney - Deep naan - Tie buffet quality- Deep ambiance - Rasoi service - Rasoi is A LOT more professional, although Deep is equally friendly price - Deep ----------- "This tastes better than Rasoi." -- Quote from a picky generally grumpy eater who happens to have the nose of a bloodhound and a palate sensitivity to match when eating the masala gravy that came w/ our tandoori chicken dish. yep, he went there... maybe he was out to pick a fight since Rasoi is one of my favorite Indian restaurants anywhere, but I have to say for food, this place has exceeded all expectations. Given Deep's very inexpensive price point for food quality compared to local competition, Deep has quickly taken a place in my top 2 for Indian food in RI/MA. Not exaggerating here: Everything was F-ing delicious. The minty coriander chutney was probably the best I ever had, the aforementioned masala was straw slurping worthy, the free pakora was bursting w/ flavor, the ginger naan was edgy (yes, edgy. how did carbs get so edgy!) and did I mention the shahi paneer. Just to have my dear shahi paneer on the menu (a dish that restaurants rarely carry b/c that's kind of an old fashioned Indian grandma's special birthday kind of dish to make) makes my heart melt a wee bit, and it's not just from the heat in the dishes, which they vary according to what you like. Sidenote: Deep Indian Restaurant has zero ambiance (proof: they had 2 TVs, both of which were turned on to Tim Allen "sitcoms"), so the only vibrancy you'll find here is in the food, and that they have in spades. The young server (daughter of the owner chef) was very gracious, albeit inexperienced. You really get the sense that the server's dad is cooking for love and it shows in the delightful food that appears in front of you. The preparations are made with care--you really feel like you're eating at someone's home and you're the guest of honor. So try it, savor, let your tongue dance a little bit, or a lot. I wish these folks all the best (yes I'm being selfish, I need them to succeed. I need a regular supply of that masala and chutney in my life!)

ok so Im knocking my review up a star. I went again with my roomie and I'm a fan of this little family owned gem. This time I got different items, because I'm a true believer of eating my way down a menu. ha ha I got the goat curry, garlic naan and chicken vindaloo (both spicy) and my roomie got her chicken curry, spicy as well. For starters we got the chicken pakora and veg samosa. The goat curry was one of the best I've ever had. the spicy part of awesome. it was spicy and full of flavour. all of the items. One of my biggest cons last time was the salt teetering on the "too much" side. This past visit, I have to admit, the flavours were well balanced and just perfect. The garlic naan I'd like to see less garlic oil and more chopped garlic on top - but that could be a personal preference of mine. I'd like to point out, again, that the food isn't "main stream". The only way I can think to explain it is that i'ts not Americanized (too much?) it seems more true to ethnicity. BUT I DON'T KNOW JACK about true Indian food. All I know its different than say Rasoi or India. The other thing I reeeeeeeeeeeeeeally like about Deep Indian, besides the sweet man who does the cooking and checks in a few times to make sure its ok, is the feeling like I'm eating in their home. I can see how this could be a put off to people, its not all decked out or even spruced up really. It still has that feeling that is was an old deli that they took over. And the TV is still on loudly in the corner, but I don't care. I wouldn't go there on a first date or to have a romantic time. I would go there to stuff myself full of yummy food and be able to sit as long as I wanted and feel welcomed, which we did. Looking for ambiance and more high end? don't go here. Want to feel like family and feel appreciated for coming in? Definitely hit Deep Indian. I truly hope this place makes it and word spreads. They are the little places that helps me love Providence. I am going to go to the buffet soon! Maybe Ill see y'all there. Cheers!

If you go in expecting a upscale high end indian restaurant, turn around now. If you want good indian food, you have come to the right place. Owner is a very simple, honest and kind man. Things may take a bit longer than other restaurants but that is because you have direct chef to table service. It's worth the wait. Try it out. Just reimagine ur indian restaurant experience and remember Rhode Island is a small place and this really is the first simple indian cuisine place I've seen in R.I. UPDATE: I just read another review stating that the owner is very rude?! You must of not met the same person I met. I personally met the owner today and I can ASSURE you he does not come anywhere close to being rude. Granted, the place has some shortcomings but only because the owner does most of the work. But, to say he is rude? That is ridiculous.

I am an Indian student and have been living in US for the last three years. I have tried various Indian food joints and have been disappointed everywhere. I mostly go there now because my US friends want to eat Indian food and I am dragged along. However last night I tried the Deep Indian restaurant. This is by far the most authentic Indian food you can get in Providence. It is actually very similar to the food that you will get in India. The owner is super hospitable and welcoming. To give a balanced review, the place does not have a good ambience, but hey the food is awesome. I felt like I was sitting in India and eating. You may have to wait for long, since it is an owner operated place. It opened only 7-8 months ago. The owner is an experienced cook and is a delightful person to talk to. Personal Experience from last night: The door was locked at 8:10 pm, but one of the waitresses came out and opened the door for us. The owner when he saw us came out and greeted us. He introduced himself and coincidentally he is from my home state Punjab in India. And thereafter, he took upon himself to make food for us. We had the groupon upon us - so for the appetizers we had - Veggie Pakoras and Samosas. The best thing I liked about these appetizers, apart from the fact that they were good, was the Indian salt sprinkled on them. When I am going again, I will do without an appetizer. They are not the best part of the food they serve. For entrees we had Saag Paneer and Punjabi Curry. Now this is what I rave about. The best Saag Paneer and Punjabi Curry I have had in the US ( I have tried several food joints in New York, Boston, Providence and LA). Simply the most awesome food ever. The rice were not so good, but he also made for us - roti, which was worth having with the saag paneer. For the desserts, we had gulab jamun. Again, not the best gulab jamuns I have had. But the sweet liquid that comes with it had several flavors to it. Again I would say skip the desserts if you have to. Two cents: Go there if you want an authentic Indian flavor. Go there if you are adventurous. Go there if you want to experience as if you are in India. Don't go there if you are expecting a very fine cuisine setting or quick service. It is a laid-back homely restaurant and I think it will become very popular in days to come.

Amongst the Indian places I've visited this place would be my bottom choice, meaning, I'm never coming back here EVER!!!!. I'm giving it 2 stars because the owner was nice and the food is decent, just like what you get in any indian Restaurant, NOTHING SPECIAL. The place was cold, grimy, and don't let me start with the food presentation. I ordered the specia, "Thel Thali" to sum it up? I got a metal plate (that looks like prison plate or cafeteria plate but grimy) dumped with 3 kinds of dishes and rice. The other things that is supposed to come with my order, forgotten, I only got half of my order. My advice, don't waste your hard earned money, go somewhere else.

I have to admit, my boyfriend and I tried out Deep India because the reviewers claimed it was a conundrum. And we went there knowing the front end might need some work but the kitchen pumped out some top notch food. Coming in knowing that made the experience a great - we wanted affordable Indian food that was authentic. We came in at 12:30 and waited for a 20 minutes. The two employee were extremely nice and gave us masala tea. We were not in a rush so we enjoyed the wait. The restaurant's atmosphere is what I would expect from an Indian shop ... in India. The building looks a little worn, there was a display cabinet with odds ends that were not meant for the customer, and I had to put a few napkins under my table to keep it from rocking. But for a second, forget about the looks. I been to India, I love Indian food, and my boyfriend and I make it a point to try every Indian restaurant we see. And I can tell you from experience, the food was very good. The pakoras were great - they were crisp but not to dry. All the plates tasted different - I been to some places that seemed to be "one trick spice ponies". And the dishes were very flavorful! We were very happy with the food and thought we were getting it at a great price!

This was some of the best Indian food I've ever experienced! The restaurant is located in a low-key neighborhood, and there's nothing pretentious about it. But when our food started arriving, we realized that we'd found a place that we wished was located in our home town. Appetizers, entrees, and desserts--all with unique, fresh, prepared-on-the-spot flavors and textures--kept us busy for almost 2 hours. We loved every minute of it, and we didn't want to get full. In addition to the food, the service was terrific. Lizzy gave us wonderful attention, helped us pack up the items we couldn't finish, and made us feel like we were guests in her home. The owner treated us the same way, when he opened up for dinner and let us in. If you are in Providence and enjoy Indian cuisine, do NOT miss this place! Be sure to check for the hours they are open, as there are some periods on Sundays when they close up for a couple of hours. They have TVs, but they were not on during our visit.

AMAZING!!!! This is truly authentic indian cusine. I told the cook that I was a little scared to go too spicy and he made me the perfect level of heat. I had the chicken tikki marsala, which I could not stop eating , even though I was beyond stuffed. The naan was delicious! I will be back and even though I used a groupon for this evenings dining, I will not use a groupon for next time I go, out of respect for the owner who is also the cook. He was super friendly and explained that he works seven days a week. I love getting a deal but I really can't see how he is making any money at all, with the generous portions and low fare. I hate to see anyone taken advantage of, and knowing that groupon takes a cut off the already discounted price is nuts. I will be back and I will pay full price next time I go.

I went here because of the groupon discount. There was no music on and it felt kind of like a pizza place upon walking in. The food was good, the service was average but the bathroom was disgusting. You know what they say about how the bathroom resembles the kitchen that you can't see. Well, we enjoying the first course then.... A loud crash and yelling coming from the kitchen.... My friend said she saw a plate thrown and we kept hearing a man yelling 'I paid you your money.' Our waitress then came out crying and said she couldn't wait on us. We waited for a while to cash out because there was no one to serve us. After leaving we both felt pretty sick. There is no ambiance, food is slop, bathroom is gross and the owner is rude to his staff to the point it's embarrassing.

Went there after purchasing a Groupon and found the place dark and empty on a Friday night at 6pm. The chairs were on the tables like they were closed. Honestly, the place was a dump. Calling Groupon to get a refund.

Some of the most authentic Indian food I've had! Their weekend brunch is amazing- each dish completely unique. Flavors are incredible. I've come here for 3 out of 4 weekends. The staff is very warm and welcoming, too! Make sure to get some of their rice pudding too!

Deep, how I love thee. What a spectacular buffet! I first heard about Deep from an Indian friend who goes every weekend with his wife. He told me that it is the most authentic Indian food in RI. So, today we went for the buffet, which is scheduled frbom 12 to 3 every Saturday and Sunday. We got there at about 1pm and the food was freshly made, piping hot and absolutely delicious. There was Punjab korma, Chicken Tikka, Biryani and several incredible vegetable dishes. The onion chutney and mint and cilantro chutney were some of the best I have had. The naan was simply incredible. It is cooked to order and coated with butter. We ate two freshly made baskets. The service was great. There was one man in front of house and one very hard working and excellent cook. Even with such a tiny staff, we were well taken care of. It is true that the decor and the layout are funky. It isn't fancy by any means. But the food is so good you are more than willing to overlook those deficiencies. We will definitely be back!

My husband and I purchased a Groupon and it was definitely worth it. The vegetable and chicken samosas were great. I got the chicken tikka masala and the portion was generous. The desserts were limited thought. The owner/chef was very thoughtful and friendly and came out to the dining room to check on us twice to see if we liked the food. When I asked to have the remainder of my dinner packaged up, he gave me extra rice to take home. It was unfortunate that we were the only ones there eating on a Friday night. More people should try this place.

I hesitate to write a less than positive review, but I'm writing this review for two strong reasons. 1. I don't want to give Deep India the impression that they don't need to improve. 2. I believe many of the positive reviews are founded on giving exception (for one reason or another). I've only been once, but when I showed up, it was cold, dark, and no one was there to welcome us in (luckily they were open though). Finally someone came out to seat us and his shirt and apron were soiled -food stains that looked at least days old. We were the second of three tables that sat down while we were there and our service was slow and inconsistent (the food took a long time and it came out at drastically different times). The food was okay, but given the service, atmosphere, and location, the price was way too high. If I spent half as much I would have felt good about the meal, but I could have spent less at nicer places with similar or better food. I believe most people are giving Deep India an exception because they want it to be good. They either want the "dive" restaurant experience, or they want to be credited for showing others this diamond in the rough. But the prices are too high for a "dive" and it's not a diamond in the rough, it's just rough.

As other reviewers noted this place is not known for its romantic ambiance, It has been open just over a year and seems to be a converted Deli. Food was good, prices were good but the service...excellent. I would return again just because of the people who work there. The owner's father was so nice, offering us complementary chai and staying open quite a bit later so that we could finish our food without being rushed. I eat Indian food a lot, while I will not say that this is the creme de la creme it is the best Indian food I have had in New England and it is worth the stop for a relaxed time with great service, good food and a friendly atmosphere.

Amazing authentic Indian food! You can't go wrong with any of the dishes, and the weekend $9 brunch buffet is a great way to try new things without spending too much. He will make any dish at any spice level, but when you request, extra "indian" spicy, expect to sweat! The place is never crowded, and it isn't the nicest to look at, but I hope this place stays in business, because any night our family wants Indian, or when someone asks, I will tell them about Deep!

Arranged for a few people from work to go try it out and when we arrived (around 12:10pm) it was closed and the doors were locked. Called their number and got voicemail. The opening times do not appear to reflect the posted opening times. Bottom line is that we just went to another place instead. Don't think I will be trying it out again unless I see active reviews and comments on Yelp after 21st Feb 2014.

Best indian food I've had for the best price. Went to the buffet. It was delicious. Loved the rice pudding and naan and the chai tea. Servers were kind and generous. Highly recommend!

This is the next big thing. Best Indian food hands down. Deep Indian is all soul...the food is amazing. You literally feel like you stumbled into a restaurant that just opened yesterday. There are remains of the prior business, a teenager (the owners' daughter) forgets your drinks and apologizes a million times, she is blasting pop music, and you are sitting at a kitchen table, basically. But. The. Food. The naan is out of this world and my baby sister ate things she never does (chickpeas). Get the buffet. Just do it. This place has the markings of greatness. I remember a little restaurant that had the same vibe when it first opened its doors (cough, los andes, cough). There is something refreshing about pure talent that doesn't need branding, a bar, or a fancy name.

The best Indian Food in Providence. It may not have a great atmosphere but the food and people who own it more than make up for it. I cannot pick a favorite as we LOVE everything. If you are not sure what you like try their weekend buffet. It is excellent and so affordable!!! We love it here!! Very affordable, with fresh high quality food made right there. Anyone who doesn't like this place doesn't know Indian Food.

Very authentic Indian food. Service was good/fast/friendly. We went for our first time on a Groupon but we will definitely be back. Don't be put off by the location or looks of the place. This is the best we have found in the area.

I loved the food. It was more richly spiced and more vivid than some Indian food places I've been to. Sadly, it was almost empty on a Saturday night, but I chalk some of that down to its unpromising location. We too were groupon customers so we ordered appetizers, main courses, and dessert -- as well as garlic naan. Everything was so delicious.

Food was really good. I visited almost, all the Indian restaurants in RI, this will be in the top. Really tasty food and friendly service

Very good homemade Indian food. Dishes are savory and piquant, mild-moderately spicy. Excellent mango chicken. Crispy, light battered and fried eggplant. Naan cooked fresh to order. This is not a typical buffet where plastic bags of factory processed saag paneer and choli are dumped out into chafing dishes. These dishes require one to slow down and experience the subtle and complex favors at play.

The gold standard for Indian food in RI I went to Deep Indian Restaurant for the lunch buffet about 3 weeks ago. The buffet is not very extensive, maybe 10 mains and appetizer and dessert. The quality of the food blew us away. Every dish tasted like it was supposed to, none of the generic watery gravies, even the tamarind chutney was thick. I waited three weeks and went for the buffet again. Same selection but different dishes. Same result. Delicious food. Everything had it's own sauce, own flavor and texture and was cooked (as opposed to being served undercooked and then being steamed in the buffet). Price was very reasonable. There is no comparing this place to any in RI. Apna Punjab in Rehoboth now has to be downgraded to Four Stars because the buffet there is not in this league. It has the variety but not the attention to detail that this one has. The rest of the restaurants in RI are even further behind. Indian food lovers, you owe it to yourself to try this place. The setting is not fancy but the food more than compensates (It was so good that the second time I went there for the lunch buffet, I had a lunch engagement at a fancy Italian restaurant an hour later, so I went there before the lunch engagement).

Seeing a 5 stars draws us here. The food was good...haven't had Indian food for long so I can't compare, but it is good. I loved their rice and their curry. I can tell it is authentic by the fact that we are almost the only non-Indian there and they are not Americanized, if you know what I mean. We arrived right when they were opened and maybe a bit too early as they were preparing for the buffet. The waiter kept apologizing and checking on us. I totally didn't mind cause I did come right on time at 12. There wasn't anyone else for like half an hour and it started filling up real quick, and it was FULL (with a table that had 16 people)! The waiters couldn't keep up but were trying their best. The whole time I was feeling more like eating at someone's home than in a restaurant. They dropped their balls on the service but I totally did not mind cause it strangely felt right. I totally had that feeling of coming to a place where they just open their home kitchen to you and I enjoyed the whole experience to see what they have to offer. One thing that I was very happy about, was that their attitude was very good even though they can benefit from training on professional food service (but then they may lose that homey feeling). Although they were overwhelmed, the waiter kept coming to us to make sure we have what we wanted, and he offered naan which I really want, it was as if he read my mind. They freshly made the naan for all tables, and it was just awesome!

It seems as though people come to Deep Indian expecting something like Rasoi. While Rasoi is pretty inside, I think it is overrated in terms of food. Across town, Deep Indian creates the most flavorful, fragrant dishes and has done a good job working with the space they have. The restaurant does have a slight cafeteria feel, but the sense of nostalgia and home comfort which this laid-back, deli-turned-restaurant offers makes up for it. We got a mango lassi, chicken pakoras, samossa chaat, chicken tikka saag, ghiya kofte (entrees served with fragrant rice and fresh naan), and galub jamun. Everything was cooked and flavored perfectly. The service was friendly and helpful. We discovered this place through groupon and we will definitely be returning. Heads up: I believe you can only get vegetarian or chicken entrees with the groupon (both of which offer extensive selections).

Wow. This place is amazing. The family who owns it is incredible. The food rocks. I've never tasted home cooked food like this. Everything on the menu was great. We ordered an app, 3 entrees and paid 30 bucks! And it was a TREAT. Must try if you are into Indian food. Puts Kabob n Curry to shame!

This place may be new, but its food is already some of the best Indian I've had in the Providence area in my 8 years of living here. Nothing tastes like it came out of a bottle or a can - you can really taste every ingredient and every spice in the food. I got the chana masala and my wife got the chicken saag - both were delicious. We also ordered samosas which were super flavorful and buttery. The bread was great too, but the real star of the bread for me was the mint chutney that came with it. We both shared an appetizer, had our two entrees, and split a naan for a grand total of $21 before tip. An excellent deal for the best Indian food I've had in a long time.

This is the first ever buffet I went to in Rhode Island state. There is one, ONLY ONE reason to visit Deep restaurant: "Taste of Food". The biriyani, Chicken tikka masala, spinach/lentil masala, eggplant masala (known as baigan masala in India) are simply authentic and superb. The price is also very fair compared to other restaurants I visited in other US states and I researched in yelp. However: (1) The variety of food is less, approximately 10 varieties and only one dessert (rice pudding) and you get complimentary naan which was good, (2) The ambience is not very good. Like many others already mentioned, it is basically either a grocery stores or a residence that has been remodeled with around 10 tables and forty chairs. Don't get fooled by the "Closed" board outside the restaurant, they don't seem to change it to "Open" appropriately when the buffet is ready, (3) there is actually no parking available, considering that it is just a residence; around 4 cars can be parked, (4) Although I never experienced too much cold situation inside, the music (I guess some Punjabi songs) that is played is very loud and annoying which I requested to be turned off and was immediately obliged. The bottomline is, visit there just for the taste of authentic and good Indian food and you wouldn't mind other annoyances.

Finally a good Indian restaurant in Providence. -- I moved here from CT about 2 years ago and have been looking for a good Indian restaurant like back home. The other places around here are all "ok" but lack that authentic intensely seasoned spice. It's not in a great neighborhood but the place is clean and actually quite nice inside. The lamb vindaloo was spicy, tender, and delicious. The eggplant dish (can't remember how to spell it's name) was amazing too. But I think my favorite thing was a sharply spiced bread made with hot green chilies. Not for the faint of heart, but amazing flavor. Definitely a place you must try. Oh and BYOB is allowed, but you might have to bring your own corkscrew.

We were drawn by the exellent reviews and will come back because they were awesomely right. Every dish was well prepared with complex, complimentary flavors. Service was attentive and friendly. Portions were all well sized and did not skimp on the ingredients. We've been to every Indian restruant in RI. This is one of the best!

I dined at the restaurant and enjoyed the buffet. The food was excellent the service was fantastic. The waitress was very friendly and wasn't in a rush when serving us. I would definitely give the restaurant a 5 for food 5 for service 4 for atmosphere. It is a family friendly restaurant. Check it out you won't be disappointed!!
