I've tried all the Chinese restaurants in the east providence/Pawtucket area and I have to say, Moon Star consistently tops them all. Don't be deterred by the simplicity of the establishment, the quality of the food says it all. I think they've been around for over 15 years.

Three reasons why I order from Moon Star: 1. It's cheap 2. It's close to where I live 3. They deliver. I've never gotten anything disgusting or objectionable from this restaurant, but the food isn't anything to write home about, either. They have vegetable pot stickers, which is kind of cool, but they're just a little too doughy and bland to make them special. Pretty much nothing more or less than you'd expect from a typical Fujianese place with pictures of the food above the counter. Service is good and the owners are nice.

The food is ok. The best part is that they deliver. It is cheap, but not as cheap or as good as Apsara. If Apsara delivered I would go there, but I am sometimes too lazy to drive.

At the time of review, this place had 4.5 stars. Yikes. I really wasn't expecting the caliber of Chinese I ended up with. The lo mein was so soggy I had to drain at least a cup of liquid out of the bottom. Same goes for the boneless spareribs. I don't know why ribs required so much juice, but it was messy and greasy. The ribs were good however, while the lo mein was pretty terrible. Sweet & sour chicken was pretty good, I like when they give you the chicken balls rather than the big chicken fingers. Per usual chinese food delivery, it came with no utensils (and I just moved, so I had to scavenge for them), but the fortune cookie was good and consistent. Also, no adverse reactions in the belly arena, so that's a plus. Overall, eh. I hope I can find better Chinese around here.

Hands down, best "Chinese" food for the price. Delicious fried rice, great combos and most importantly, I've never experienced that sudden tinge of mild nausea that so often waves over me when I eat questionable meat products. Might I add the fried wontons are actual wontons and not meat tucked inside egg roll wrapping. The price is fantastic and the delivery time is barely 15 minutes, keeping in mind I usually order while I'm at work around noon. They accept credit cards over the phone which is a huge plus.

Obsessed with their vegetarian steamed dumplings and shrimp in garlic sauce (considering they deliver). I write all over their delivery menu with notes about what is good an what I have tried. Some stuff is just down right terrible.

Their shrimp fried rice was yummy. I went to pick up the food......when I saw how filthy the restaurant was, decided to never go back. DIRTY!!

Decent and good Chinese food. Unbelievale price. You can tell they make to your order with fresh ingredients. Veggie is always crunchy and meat with right texture. perfect for take out or delivery. limited seating.

I've been eating at Moon Star since they opened, circa twenty years ago. It's probably changed owners a few times (and locations; it used to be elsewhere in the plaza, where Hillside Medical is now), but the food has always been consistently good and cheap. There's nothing particularly authentic here, just the typical Chinese-American fare that you expect from a Fujienese storefront place. Also, if you're looking for a place to eat in with a toddler, the place is relatively large and typically empty, so there's lots of room to run around.

Whether ordering for pickup or delivery, service is always prompt and friendly. Food is consistently good. Nothing fancy, but take-out Chinese done right.

Cheaper than most chinese restaurants in the east side/pawtucket area......the food is very good for the price....... i like the american chop suey and the Kung Pao..... the pu pu platter for two is around 12 dollars....good price...... Fresh vegetables are always crunchy -- the delivery is super fast.....I always get two forks......the place is super C L E A N --- it must be good, Butler Hospital staff puts an eighty dollar order every saturday -- The Ying Chim family is clean and nice --- Moonstar accepts Paypal secure cards.......

I ordered from here because I've been craving chinese food, and it was close and cheap. That's about all it has going for it. The cashew chicken was mostly (more than 1/2) celery and carrots. The steamed dumplings were ok, but there was some strange spices in the meat. I honestly don't plan on ordering from there again. Wish I had better things to say about it, given how cheap and fast they were.

Suck... just not good! i don't know why there is zero Chinese places in EP that are any good! I miss Providence Chef Ho's 4 Life!

I thought it was absolutely fine. I ordered veggie dumplings and shrimp w/ garlic sauce, as recommended by another reviewer. Yes, the dumplings are a bit doughy, but the filling was pretty tasty. I'm not sure I could distinguish the *garlic sauce* from any other sauce on the menu, but there was a fairly generous portion of (large) shrimp and veggies. I'd go again.

If you are looking for good Chinese food, this is not it. Watered down sesame shrimp sauce and bland beef teriyaki was not worth the money I spent. Not only was the food less than mediocre, the delivery time is awful. Go down Hope street and you will find two other asian restaurants that have better tasting food for cheap. What an awful awful place.

The food was okay, but you can't beat the prices here. You do get what you pay for though, lower prices for lower quality when compared to some of the other places in the area. We got take-out during footbal on Sunday afternoon. The Low Mein and fried dumplings were pretty good, but very greasy. The crab rangoons were gross and seemed to be stuffed with ricotta cheese instead of the creamy cheesy goodness that they are supposed to be filled with. No crab in site. However, the Chicken Curry was delicious. Tons of crisp, fresh veggies and a nice flavor. Meal comes with white rice too, which some places skimp on now. All in all, I will order from here again because it is cheap and convinient, but don't come here expecting a fancy meal!

Years ago this place used to be very good, cheap and they delivered. Now it is cheap and they deliver. It just ain't what it used to be. I got a pu pu platter and lo mein, everything in the pu pu platter was swimming in grease, the shrimp toast was surround by raw pancake batter. The lo meine tasted of whatever they used as the gravy to mix in with the noodles. I wanted to give a single star, but I need to give them another chance to get it together. Food left me feeling ill.

This USED to be the best around, the pupu platter is all fried! I don't know what happened but it's a shame.

This little place is situated in the strip mall just over the Pawtucket line up near Blackstone. . Lunch order: Shrimp with Veggies came with fried rice and an egg roll. Orange soda on the side. For less that $7 bucks, the generous portion could be shared with two. (I admit I housed the entire deal solo - but felt the instaneous remorse from the sheer volume consumed.) It was good. Lots of large, sauteed shrimp with a good assortment of veggies. Egg roll was nothing fantastic. Food was fresh and cooked to order. I ate alone inside. It's clean inside but there is zero atmosphere here. The brisk take-out biz indicates that folks probably are aware of the flaw. I prefer Apsara Palace up the road but I'm glad I checked this joint out.

A year ago I would have given Moon Star a 5 star rating, but sadly, the food has just gone downhill. It's hard to find good Chinese delivery, and I always order from here, but the past few months I've been consistently disappointed with the food. Last night was the kicker, I ended up throwing away everything I ordered. It was just bad, bland & tasteless. Definitely lost this customer.

2 stars... well... I almost gave them a single star, but I keep coming back... I'll tell you why.... There is one thing that I notice about rhode island... asian food sucks! ALL ROUND HANDS DOWN WACKNESS! I think I am the victim of their horrible food since they are 0.3 miles away, super cheap and they deliver. Yeah, that's right, I'm on a budget. But since I am asian, I need to have my rice. Burgers, pizza, and pastas can only take me so far. Most of their combination dish has fried chicken... no wait... most of asian restaurants in rhode island has fried check on majority of their combination dishes. Wasup with that!? I recommend this joint to anyone who wants fried chicken with their chinese food.

Do you want hangover Chinese food, Anglicized? Do you want it to be cheap and delicious? Do you not want to feel comatosed nor poo your pants after eating? Do you want it delivered to your despicable ass because you got too drunk, shagged a bridge troll and are now locked in your bedroom in shame? Call these folks. Best "Chinese" (you know what i mean, smart guy) I have found. Open relatively late. Their boneless spare ribs are hella good. Really. Take out or delivery, as the ambiance = prison cafeteria.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
