First day in Newport, hubby not keen on lobster rolls so let's try BBQ! Best I've had in years. Fantastic rub on the ribs. Wash it down with a Trinity IPA and all is yummy. In a few day this spot will be in the middle on the Boat Show so I'm glad we tried it now. Highly recommend. Nice sound track too.

Currently visiting New Port for an OCS graduation, and being an all American kinda girl, I had to find a good burger spot while I was here. Smoke house has excellent quality food and generous portions. Think I'm joking, order some nachos from the appetizers and wait to see all you get. Now I ordered the BBQ burger, and being Texan BBQ is something I take very seriously. Everything about the burger was delicious and I think I ended up inhaling it more then eating it. There are 2 BBQ sauces (a sweeter brown sugar one and the "Texas" sauce which was a vinegar base), but I only recommend the Texas style one- call it bias but I was not a fan of the other. Additionally, the fries were seasoned well. There are many different burger options available, as well as a BBQ section of the menu, and appetizers and salads.

Our experience began with a very pleasant server, Bianca. The specialty drinks were great and well worth the cost, if you know what I mean. My wife and I both ordered, and really enjoyed, the Corn and Crab Chowder. My wife had the 1/2 pound Pulled Pork dinner and I had the Ribs. Both entrees were cooked to perfection! the best surprise was the incredible Cornbread served wafm! it was moist and buttery and fantastic. When in Newport this is a must!

I'm not big on BBQ and am only reviewing the drinks... Mudslides are mandatory. I limit myself to one so I can still fit into my bikini. Other amazing summer cocktails to try are the blueberry vodka lemonade and the cucumber vodka & soda -very refreshing!

No wait at 8pm on a saturday if you request inside. 35 minute wait for outside (77 degrees, no humidty). Waitress Polly was great. She was clearly swamped with tables but remained friendly and efficient. Pulled pork and smoked wings are a must!!! So tender and delicious. My friend enjoyed the brisket too. The mac n cheese is good. Not the best I've had but definitely satisfies cheesy cravings. Great drink menu. The tew punch was sweet and fruity. Baked beans are very tasty and a lighter version of thick baked beans we are used to. Great atmosphere and food. Definitely returning.

I don't know if it's a thing in Connecticut, but in California we do a thing called Sunday Funday. It's pretty much an excuse to start day drinking at an earlier hour than happy hour, and usually involves a brunch that lasts long into the afternoon. I'm always on the lookout for a place for premium funday-ing, and the Smoke House is PERFECT. Located on the frontage road of the tourist-popular mainstreet, this restaurant has locations for every diner. Front of the house has epic people watching vantage points, the middle is great for lunch and lounging, and the back of the house is well suited for groups and parties. Menu is extensive, with drink- friendly foods, and food-friendly drinks. We had stopped in just for drinks, but after seeing food plates pass by us, we decided we couldn't neglect the chance to try the food too. Our waitress was spunky, attentive, and helpful, and served/cleaned super quickly. Even though the place was packed, their ratio of servers to tables was so excellent, everyone in the place received dedicated service. For starters, we considered the deviled eggs, but settled on the fried pickles. I was hesitant about them given all my previous experiences with such had left me dismayed. These however, were crisp, crunchy, tart, flavorful, perfectly seasoned, and served with a delightful dip that excentuated the cornmeal batter. Would definitely order a second time! On drinks, I was just coming out of a bloody mary obsession, so I ordered their spicy mary, and my husband ordered the garden party. Mine was pepper heavy and tangy, and my husband's was a mix of riesling, cucumber vodka and lime, which we loved so much we have replicated repeatedly at home with much delight. Our meal was difficult to pick, with so many good choices, but eventually we went for the fried chicken and biscuit sandwich, and the lobster roll. The chicken was paired with an onion marmalade and with a savory herbed biscuit bun, along a side of fries. My husband thought this was a little on the too salty side, but otherwise cooked well. My lobster roll came dressed with a dill tarragon sauce, with a side of cornmeal topped Mac and cheese. The lobster was fresh, the bun toasty, but the mac weirdly sweet. Prices were typical for Rhode Island Bayfront cuisine, and for the drinks, absolutely you get what you pay for. Will definitely return on a weekend getaway for some Sunday funday drinks and people watching while finding my RI waterfront destination bliss.

Every meal better than the last. Very friendly waitstaff Bar seats facing Thames St are easily the best seats in Newport if you can grab them. Lemon blueberry tart is one of my favorite drinks ever. I can't speak highly enough of this place I must have gone there once or twice week throughout this entire summer. Their nachos are amazing, order half chili and half pulled pork and you won't be disappointed.

The Smoke house is very very good! The place is clean and the food is delicious. There are not a lot of veggie options but it doesn't matter (I mean it is called The Smoke House). The portobello sandwich was out of this world! The staff was very nice and accommodating. I highly recommend The Smoke House. The ambiance was great as well!

The Mrs. and I have visited Newport in June for the past six or so years and have enjoyed The Smokehouse each of those years with our oldest daughter and her two children who live in nearby Mass. Being raised in Tennessee, I was surprised to enjoy BarBQ this good in this part of the world during our prior visits. However, an experience this past week concerning the International BBQ event of 24 June causes me to comment on this restaurant for the first time. The website instructed us to make reservations for this event and we did so five days prior. However, upon our arrival at the appointed time and date, we found that our names were not on the list. Rather than being positioned at one of the multi seat tables with other festive folks, we were escorted to a table for two at the periphery of the dining area. If you recall the scene from "Animal House" where Jugdish is sent to a room with all of the other pledge rejects, you're getting an understanding of how we felt. We were also noticing that the the full time residents were being warmly greeted by a gent who appeared to be one of the principals of this restaurant. Even though we we showing up for the first time to such an event, our greeting was not so warm. Seeing as this was the start of a big night (at $50 a head), we felt that whatever transpired over the next couple of hours could not overcome this disastrous first impression and we bolted for the door. As stated before, we are not newbies to Newport and realize the full time versus part timers that come in during season. My suggestion is that if you want a special event for your full timers, have it during October thru April and don't pretend to invite outsiders to enjoy your "northern hospitality". Goodbye, adios, auf wiedersehen, as you have lost yearly visitors to your restaurant for the rest of our visits there.

We were able to grab a seat at the bar to avoid the wait for a table which was nice and it made our people watching a lot more fun since it was a Friday night! The food here is good if you are looking for BBQ. The fried green tomato salad was a great starter (just won best of RI) and the bacon mac and cheese was just awesome. We had the BBQ plate to share and it was pretty good but the star was the mac and cheese for sure! The cocktail menu here has a lot of cool looking options... but when ordered, they were a little disappointing taste wise (mostly too sweet). Everything else provided an all around good experience and the staff was really friendly.

We were able to grab a table for 3 with no wait at 6:30pm. This place is clean, the vibe is chill, staff is friendly and food delicious. The nachos were more than we were expecting both in size and taste. My cocktail was perfectly prepared and the cornbread outstanding! Child friendly too! (Crayons and coloring page w/ grilled cheese for dinner :0)

The place has expanded and cleaned up since I was last here. The drinks are ok. Fancy, but only ok. The food is the reason to come. We had the combo platter; I posted a picture of it. Everyone at the table could enjoy a little bit of everything. The service was very good. There is a loyalty card program which our server explained and we signed up!

I really liked this place. The staff was very friendly. It's a casual place. We chose to sit at the window bar and stare out at passersby. The drinks were delish. I highly recommend the blueberry lemonade or the raspberry lemonade. I had an all American Burger which came with fries and coleslaw. My friend had the pulled pork nachos which had insanely hot habaneros-love it!!! The nachos were plenty for two people to share as a meal. When we were trying to figure out a tune on the radio with Shazam, the owner (that's what he appeared to be) brought us the information on the song that was playing. I love that type of individual attention on a super busy Labor Day afternoon!!! Kudos!!! Check them out next time you're in town!

Came down to Newport for the folk festival and embarked on a nearly impossible task of finding seating for 6 in the middle of downtown at a restaurant that seemed at least halfway decent. Smoke House was sooo much more than I could've hoped. I trepidatiously ordered the watermelon salad, since it sounded like "pickled watermelon rind" would either be amazing or terrible, and I had no idea how it would sit with arugula, watermelon, ricotta, and mint. Honestly, tho, one of the most amazing salads I've ever had, and I added the smoked brisket, which was also a total win. Shared some fried pickles and some mac and cheese, both of which were also excellent. I love the atmosphere of this place, the service was good, and I would definitely come back. The only reason this is a 4-star review instead of a 5-star is because I did *not* care for my drink. The Cojito was a whole lot of coconut and not a good balance with the rest of the mojito flavors. My friend got a normal mojito and her drink was eons better. If I'm back in Newport, though, I'd come back to Smoke House in a heartbeat. In the meantime, I'll be back in my lab trying (but undoubtedly failing) to perfect my own watermelon salad...

I've lived in the south and this place by far is the best bbq I've ever had! I especially loved the ribs. The bbq sauces are awesome!

This place is just OK in some areas and great in others. The smell when you are near it and inside is wonderful if u like smoked food. Though the floor is really sticky to where my daughter almost lost her sandal Lol. The drinks and wait staff and bartenders were Nice and polite and very on top of things. Many different drinks to choose from and feel there is one for everyone. Now comes the OK part.. the food. It just seems to be going down hill every time we come back. Wife's chicken wasn't cooked all the way. The pulled pork was dry and could have been basted in more sauce. There BBQ sauce is just plain. The music was good on this day so that was a bonus but wish the food was better. Stinks because they could be better since there isn't to many of there types around.

Nachos were delicious...so many flavored but they blended nicely. Fried Chicken sandwich was more bread and less chicken but the chicken tasted wonderful. Brisket was perfect and cornbread was moist. Bacon Bloody Mary was to heavy and filling and lack of dessert options was sad. Brownie on a skillet would match the theme and menu nicely.

My husband and I love this spot and the food is delicious as to be expected at all Newport Restaurant Group restaurants!! We must have gone on an off day because it wasn't very busy and our waitress forgot my drink, our appetizer, and got my meal wrong... So frustrating because we chose to go here out of all the restaurants in Newport. She did comp us for our meal but it was very disappointing when hoping for a relaxing Sunday evening. Excellent service is one of our favorite parts of Newport Restaurant Group and this experience just did not live up to it.

I was here not too long ago with 2 of my friends. Mixed bag but may be worth another try. They do have really good cornbread, something that is very hard to come by. Very soft. I asked for butter and they brought it to me in liquid form. I prefer regular soft butter. The pork wings were good, as was the chili. Ok fried pickles, though they could be a tad thicker. The crab chowder was a little too smokey for my taste. Our waitress was nice but did drop the check before asking if we wanted dessert or anything else, not ok. I asked about dessert, she got the message. I ordered key lime pie and got key lime pudding. Interesting but it wasn't clear on the menu. The chocolate shake was good. Overall it was ok and I may stop in try some other things.

This place pulled me in from a block away. I smelled that beautiful smokey goodness and just followed my nose. I was staying at the Hotel Newport Harbour Hotel and was walking to another place which will not be named and couldn't resist going in to the Smoke House. I tried the crab and corn chowdah which was perfect and my friend had the chili so I was lucky enough to get to try both. I sat next to pretty flowers and drank a moscow mule from a mason jar, while being shielded from the wind in the outdoor bar area. I chickened out from trying the bacon infused vodka but did get the sundae topped with bacon bits. That should be served everywhere. I wish I was hungrier that day because I saw the next table over with a whole tray of BBQ goodies...I will definitely be visiting again.

OMG pulled pork and baked beans from heaven. The baked bean side dish is huge and should definitely be split among 3 people as a side, but it's sooo delicious. The sweet BBQ sauce for the pulled pork was also really good. I was bummed I was hungover when I came here bec the drinks looked awesome too. I didn't get cornbread with my meal either but it looked moist and delicious. Make this place a must go when you come to Newport and get sick of seafood.

Great food, great place, just a tad overpriced for BBQ. This place is totally open to the outdoors, so it's great place to enjoy nice weather. As soon as you stroll past this place, you can smell the delicious scent of smoked meats and it just pulls you in! The menu is great, very creative. Everything looks good and from what I've had, everything has tasted good. The drink menu is has a wide variety of drinks and everything comes in a mason jar. Service is good, but I feel like the servers are always rushed, which makes me think they one more table than they can comfortably handle (from the 2 times I've been there). Overall, this is a must try :-)

Sadly, the worst barbecue I've ever eaten. I guess after living in the south for 13 years I forgot that you don't come to New England for barbecue. I HAD to try this place because the fabulous aroma wafts over to our boat and makes my mouth water every night. To be fair, I got my order to go so I wouldn't have to leave the dog alone on the boat for too long, so it's possible that the dine-in food would be better. I ordered the watermelon salad, smokehouse poutine fries, & pork barbecue with spicy Texas sauce. I'm a huge salad eater but the watermelon salad was watery, with too little watermelon and cheese & way too much arugula. The dressing was really bland; I rarely use a lot of dressing but I dumped the whole container on, to no avail. I don't like salty food but even I thought it needed salt... Or some chopped Kalamata olives might have salvaged it. I don't think I've ever not finished a salad before now. Such potential but such a disappointment. The "smokehouse poutine" sounded so good on the menu: fries with cheese & smokehouse gravy. There was no gravy! Good fries, a bit stingy with the cheese but that was ok... But that was it! Fortunately I love regular fries & I used some of that "Texas style" BBQ sauce on them. And the barbecue... Oohh, the barbecue. With spicy Texas sauce. Large chunks of wiggly, jiggly, pure pork fat with almost no meat in the container. I seriously didn't get 6 whole bites of meat. And I don't mean chunks of fat dangling off the meat, I mean 2"x2" globs of flab with no meat attached to them. What little meat there was, was also fatty. Now, pork barbecue is always high in fat content, and I'm ok with that, but this was inedible. I thought maybe someone grabbed my serving out of the scraps container instead of the finished pan of BBQ. I'll add here that the "spicy" sauce had no spice whatsoever. No cayenne flavor, no black pepper, just boring. The slaw was very good, a little vinegary, & helped cut through the fattiness of the barbecue. I DIDN'T GET the cornbread that was supposed to come with it, so I can't review it. :( I really wanted to love this place because it smells so good & it's convenient. I might even give it another try because I understand that it was swamped when I was there and sometimes things go wrong. It's always mobbed & the drinks look good, the server was very nice & helpful.... Unless they cater solely to tourists who only come in once they must do SOMETHING right, but so far I haven't seen it. I had to throw away more than half instead of enjoying leftovers the next day.

Great place to sit at/near the bar and watch the world go by. Awesome, creative drinks and a good beer selection. Inside the restaurant, it smelled of smokey deliciousness. Bathrooms were yucky when I was there.

Only open from early May to early October I'm glad we stopped here for a quick snack -- brisket was perfectly tender, the aromas of BBQ smoke permeated the outdoor seating, and my fried green tomatoes were to die for! strong drinks and people watching fun!

They used to do these succulent beef ribs (touted as Kobe beef, but isn't everything in this wacky world of beef now some Kobe or Wagyu derivative?) which were really great, but after a menu change they disappeared. Their brisket was dry both times I tried to order it, and at some point someone made this incredible decision to make the restaurant gluten free. I'm all for pandering to self-diagnosed 'gluten intolerance' but to only offer gluten free buns with their brisket sandwich is insanity. I just looked at the menu and see they've changed it again so perhaps its better again. In any event, my last meal (and prior) were crappy so 2/5 it is.

The Smokehouse in Newport has the best BBQ in the area. Anything on the menu is great especially the 2 person entrée which is a mix of BBQ samplings. I was a little disappointed with the Lobster roll as the dill & tarragon overpowered the taste of the Lobster itself but all in all, not bad. Also a great spot to get a drink and people watch as the restaurant sits right on the main street. I've eaten here a few times alongside celebrities that were performing at the Yachting Center next door.

Not one to normally write negative reviews, with this being said, I felt as though it was my duty to help fellow yelpers. Awful and extremely overpriced for frozen bagged food.manager. Would not reccomend this place to my worst of enemies. Truly regretted spending a dime here.If there was a way to leave negative stars I would.

Excellent service. The lemonade & watermelon soda were sweet & delish. We ordered the BBQ pulled pork which to our surprise, was a burger topped with a huge onion ring & pulled pork in the center. You can taste the smoke in the pulled pork & charcoal in the burger which we liked a lot. The burger was huge so we ate it with a fork & knife. Burgers came with nicely seasoned fries. Good environment, great service & food. Would definitely go back.

Best restaurant experience of my life. The atmosphere was incredible. The curb appeal draws you in from the street immediately, and the interior decor and setup are like something from HGTV. The waiters are genuinely nice, and I really feel like my waitress (Leanne) cared about my experience on a personal level. Not to mention they all look like J-Crew models. THE FOOD. The food was insane. And literally was delivered to our table maybe 6 minutes after we ordered it. I got the BBQ Smokehouse burger and it makes me sad thinking about it now because it's gone. Please eat here. You will not regret it.

Nice outdoors spot, packed on Labor Day weekend but was seated promptly. Service was quick menu was nicely arranged and easy to read. Ordered a chopped salad with the additional smoked brisket added to the top. Was tasty brisket a bit tough but yummy for sure. My fiancé ordered the 1/2 lb brisket plate. Portion looked smaller then the 1/2 lb suggestion. He said it was tasty just small. Coleslaw ehh they could have amped it up a good BBQ place needs a good slaw this was just ok. Cornbread was tasty and so was the lemonade

Naturally all non-sectarian federal holidays are just a ploy by the amoral anti-prohibitionists to invigorate Americans to eat, drink and be merry. Smoke House provides ample opportunity to do both - a little bit of day drinking never hurt anyone, nor did copious amounts of pork, cheese and other fried bits of love. For starters, every 11:00 a.m. lunch should begin with a housemade infused vodka/whiskey cocktail of sorts. If you're in the mood for a bit of Southern flair, the Lynchberg Lemonade has just enough alcohol to get you to draw out your "a" 's and your "r" 's. For more of an Yankee spirit lifter, the Blueberry Thyme Bomb offers a perfect summery sweet concoction for you to drop your "r" 's completely. As for food, the BBQ Pork Cheddar Croquettes are more like savory doughnut holes comprised of a balled up pierogi and fried to crisp, golden perfection. WIth a center that oozes of cheddar, creamy potato and bits of pork, these dumplings are perfect for dipping in any of Smoke House's three amazing, prototypical BBQ sauces: Texas Sweet, Carolina Savory and something in between. The Mac and Cheese is a hearty dish, which tastes absolutely decadent when paired with the sweet cornbread. Nothing is better than a scoop of creamy, savory noodles covered in thick cheese than a squirt of sweet, molasses-y Texas BBQ sauce on a bite of smooth corn bread.

Ok, I would have given the smoke house 4 stars, but the order of chicken wings came out with some feathers, which was a turn off. The drinks were good, I had the sangria and it was refreshing. The staff was great, but those wings...BOO.

Excellent service.... better than we've had ever in Newport. Drinks were great (and/or amazing?) , appetizer was great, entrees were great.... What else is there to say? Go to Smokehouse. Everything about them is amazing.

Good casual dining. They had a gluten free menu which was perfect for my wife who has a gluten allergy. The menu is basically BBQ, burgers, & sandwiches. I had the Black & Blue burger. They char the outside of the burger and put Gorgonzola cheese on top. It was tasty. My wife had the BBQ chicken sandwich on gluten free bread. She enjoyed it. We also enjoyed a couple of drinks served in mason jars. We skipped dessert since they only had milkshakes & sundaes. Overall, I would recommend this place. It's a good spot for lunch or if you want a good casual dinner.

I ate here during the annual boat show. the weather was perfect and the atmosphere was energetic. Though it was packed we found seats at the bar. We ordered a few beers and some chips and salsa to start. the salsa was a bit unremarkable but the main meal more than made up for it. I ordered the baby back ribs with a side of coleslaw and corn bread. I was prepared for a messy meal, ribs normally are, but they served the ribs chopped up, similar to shredded beef. It was a great surprise and the ribs tasted amazing. Great sauce, perfectly cooked. and when combined with the cornbread it was even better. I would recommend this place to anyone.

My friend and I stopped in here for lunch after jetskiing at long wharf next door. We ordered fried pickles with this delicious sauce that had a bit of a zing to it. Then for our main meal, I ordered their nachos and my friend ordered their Mac & Cheese. If I'm being honest, it wasn't the best nachos I've ever had - I usually like them more covered with toppings so more of the chips get moistened. But my friend's Mac and Cheese was delicious and our waitress was really really sweet. Also, we each ordered one of their mason jar drinks and they were not only delicious but nice and stronggggg and not watered down. They had a nice Foster The People playlist going on, which the very friendly manager informed us of after watching us trying to figure out what song was playing at the moment. Overall, great experience!

Having only been to the "old" Smoke House once before they redid it, I can't really comment on the former restaurant. BUT, the newly redone Smoke House? Holy Cow! I've been a few times now, and I was not disappointed. Went with a few friends, and we ordered Lynchburg Lemonade's, which is Jack and Lemonade... Delish! AND, drinks come in mason jars, which if you follow Pinterest, you know is the new "in" thing. More fun than boring glasses. We had the fried pickles to start. They're not on the menu, but order them! You won't regret it, and you WILL become addicted. At least I did. For my meal, I had the turkey burger, with avocado, and their house BBQ sauce. I could just eat the BBQ sauce alone, it was THAT good. Don't be alarmed that the turkey burger is pink. It states on the menu that's "normal." I had a small side of the mac & cheese, instead of fries. BEST mac & cheese ever... My friends tried it and were jealous they didn't get it. The whole experience is very "classy picnic" style dining. Skip the pulled pork sandwich. I've had that, and preferred the pre-renovation version. Now it's more bread than pork. I think if they used bread that wasn't so thick, or used more pork, it would be good. (This is my only complaint) My servers have always been on top of things, and friendly, which always makes for a better dining experience. And considering it's part of Newport Restaurant Group (22 Bowens, Mooring, etc.), you would think it would be really expensive, but it's not. PS - I hear they have bacon infused vodka, which sounds amazing, because who doesn't like bacon and vodka?? They're actually two of my favorite things. On my must try list...

We stopped here for lunch after wandering around Newport. The set up is very nice, we sat outside but it was still quiet. We ordered steak tacos and bbq chicken salad with a side of Cajun Mac and cheese. The steak taco was one big taco with bigger chunks of steak and quite a bit of hot sauce (but still very good). The bread it was all wrapped in cooled down the hotness. The Cajun Mac and cheese was the best thing we had here. The bbq chicken salad was also really good. Waitress was friendly and prompt. Overall very good experience here.

I've been here twice now because good BBQ is hard to find in RI and this place is pretty darn good! The first time my group of three ordered the nachos with pork (delicious and could have been our whole meal!) and then we split a combo platter. Whoa, so much food! We has enough left over for dinner the next day. The second time we started with fried pickles (the sauce is really good) and the hog wings, both of which I highly recommend. We then split another combo platter. The cocktail menu in itself is enough to make you keep coming back just so you can work your way through it! Every drink my party ordered was awesome but I have to recommend the blueberry lemonade. Service was very friendly and helpful. We had a small problem with our bill the first time and they took care of it immediately.

A great place to grab a bite, especially if you're in a hurry (the couple next to us was). I had the pulled pork sandwich, which came with fries. The fries are really crispy, which I like, and the pork was good (Texas style, I'm a Memphis fan myself). The brioche bun was huge. My husband got the grass fed burger. He also had a local beer (the weiss) which he really liked. Service was excellent.

I love BBQ, so was glad I found a place in Newport that had it. Sadly, Newport isn't known for BBQ. It wasn't particularly busy when we went so I was glad that I'd get my fix in with no wait! I ordered the pulled pork sandwich and it was just "ok".. You tasted the smoke, definitely, but the BBQ sauce lacked real flavor. The fries were also overcooked, so they didn't add anything either, unfortunately. The staff was great though.. our server Lauren came right over and greeted with an awesome smile. Sadly, she had to deal with another table with a "self-proclaimed" chef who wasn't happy with his meal but kept her composure dealing with that weirdo. It was comical to hear him comment over and over (I'm pretty good at lip reading) about how he was a chef and the food wasn't made with love. Each time he had a concern, sent something back, or wanted to vent, Lauren was right there fixing everything. Although I wasn't excited about the food (I'm overly critical about BBQ food... sorry!), Lauren was great and obviously they take customer service well here!

I am so sad to write this review. I really wanted to like this place. This was my first time in Newport and we stumbled across this restaurant. I convinced my husband to have dinner here over all the other places in the area. The BBQ chicken was by far one of the worst meals I have ever eaten. The chicken was so dry that I could hardly cut it. Seriously it must have been on the grill for days. My husband had a tuna melt, one of his all time favorites, he said it was terrible. The only saving grace was the corn bread. The location is great, the restaurant adorable, service was good, but the food just terrible.

Love this place. Although I never sat down in here, I had the opportunity to have some ribs, and "Pork" wings from this place. I can't wait to actually sit down and eat. Whenever I walk by this place, I'm very tempted to stop what I'm doing and go in. The Delicious rub on the ribs keeps calling me like the Starbucks Siren calls to lost sailors at the sea-- or something like that.

Loved the hog wings and the shandy cocktail...the BBQ sampler platter for two was NOT good. Nothing was smoked slowly...brisket was dry, pulled pork was chewy, ribs were over done...needed sauce for it all. Definitely try the hog wings then find someplace else to spend your money.

Excellent food. Great service. Gluten free options abound. Awesome place all around! Highly recommend the ribs, burger, beans, and lobster roll!!

Great spot for lunch/afternoon drinks. Drink menu had good variety but we never made it past the sangria -- so good. We went for a bit of a surf and turf lunch--lobster roll and the BBQ platter was a great option if your in the mood to pick at different things vs being stuck to one thing. Both were available on the Gluten-Free menu!

Excellent service! The waitstaff alone can carry four stars. Very attentive and courteous to a dad taking his 20 month old toddler for lunch. The layout is a cool backyard deck vibe with all four walls open to the outside. I didn;t try any of the traditional BBQ, but did enjoy the NE Grassfed Burger which was cooked correctly and had a nice earthiness. My son enjoyed a lightly grilled hotdog and devoured the grilled corn on the cob (w/o the cajun rub). While i decided to not imbibe, it was a difficult decision not to just enjoy one drink, because they have an incredible looking drink menu. Hopefully i can return when I can be less responsible haha.

The smell...? Amazing! The temptation (for a foodie)...? Overwhelming! Beverage? A vodka, bacon flavored Bloody Mary (it was lunch and... I'M ON VACATION!) was really enjoyable. Yum! The opportunity to finally sit down to a 2 person sampler platter...? Dis-a-point-ing! In a word, DRY. I would understand this if we had stopped in at 2:30 or 3 pm, but this was the lunch-rush at 12:30 pm. In their defense, the 1/2 chicken was absolutely amazing! Which was perplexing, especially since the brisket, pulled pork and ribs were soooooo dry! Adding sauce helped as it usually should but that just reminds me of Chevy Chase in "Christmas Vacation" trying to take justify the glory of the Christmas turkey, with loads of gravy. Atmosphere is relaxed and cool. Wait staff is observant and friendly. I've heard such good things about "Smokehouse"... It just wasn't my day, I guess.

Having just traveled to the Midwest over the last two months, I was fired up to get some good BBQ here at home like the righteous BBQ out there. Unfortunately, this place falls short on many levels. I understand the location and the cost of operating in that location, but first of all, they are charging about double for the meats of what you'd find normally. The dry rubs on the meats are not harmonious with the smoke, and just don't compliment one another. The BBQ sauces fell flat, without a true moppy/thin vinegar style sauce for the pulled pork. Pulled pork itself was average. The brisket, dry and very disappointing. Nice decor and atmosphere. Go for a drink and a sandwich only and you'll enjoy yourself. Don't expect to have an authentic BBQ experience or you'll leave disappointed.

I had lunch here and I thought it was OK. The pulled pork sandwich was tasty but missed that certain something that pushed BBQ over the edge to 4 stars. Service was solid and overall and alright experience. Is is a cool place to hang out and people watch... cheers Steve

My partner and I were at a nearby beach and walked into this place thinking it was the seafood place behind it ( I think the other place is called The Mooring). So it's a nice little outdoor venue that's plays good music (early 2000's to more current pop, adult alternative, if anyone cares!! Lol!!) we were greeted by one of the servers and seated to our table. I kept smelling BBQ and duh it's exactly what they make!!! I ordered a drink called the cojito which is coconut rum with some plant liqueur, club, mint. It was very refreshing especially after being at the beach all day!! We both had the crab and corn chowder, delicious and hot. Good chunks of crab in the soup and they give u those great oyster crackers to go with it. For our main dish he ordered the BBQ burger which was a beef burger with a massive onion ring topped with pulled pork and a generous amount of fries. He loved it!! I got a little greedy and ordered a half lb of beef brisket which comes with a side of coleslaw and corn bread and I ordered a side of Mac and cheese which has hints of bacon in the topping. The brisket was cooked perfectly and sliced nice and thin. They offer 2 types of BBQ sauce, one is their house and one is their spicy version and to be honest I thought the original BBQ sauce had more of a kick to it which I dig!!! If u are a Mac and cheese lover it is awesome nice and flavorful. The cornbread was freaking awesome nice and soft and good flavor. My partner ordered a side of cornbread which comes with two generous pieces of it wrapped in parchment paper so if u want to take it home it's already wrapped. The Mac and cheese is definitely enough to share. The coleslaw was so-so but u don't go there for the coleslaw lol!! Our server was really friendly and attentive. If we are ever in that area again we would definitely go!! The staff works well together!!! Thank you for a great first experience

Why did I let the crowds turn me away ? This time there were no crowds so I ate here. Very glad. I had the whole family with me and everyone enjoyed their meals. I ordered a Bbq sample platter that was so amazing! s3-media2.ak.yelpcdn.com… That seems to be my most popular food pic. Everyone wants to know where I took the photo. Highly recommend.

I wasn't sure what to expect as the restaurant went through a facelift over the winter. First, the locale. Nice, open air restaurant that allows you to watch all the tourists and Newport Yacht Club visitors as you enjoy your food. I noticed that they have clear plastic flaps to put down to warm the place up on cool, windy days. The inside has definitely gone to a more casual upscale environment vice the backyard/picnic table feel it had before. As for the food and drink, the restaurant is part of Newport Restaurant Group which means that it has a good selction of local craft brews and uses fresh locally grown/raised ingredients. That also means that you are going to have to pay more for the higher quality. But the prices are in keeping with other Newport waterfront options with surprisingly large portions. I had business in the area so I stopped by for lunch. I would have loved to have tried one of the local brews but had to go to an afternoon meeting so I indulged in an "Arnold Palmer" since the waitress told me that they brew their own tea and make their lemonade from scratch. It was definitely tasty. For lunch I ordered the pulled pork sandwich and was surprised by the huge sandwich and abundant fries. I was delighted to see that their version of pulled pork was not drowning in sauce. Why spend all those hours smoking the pork only to mask that great flavor in gooey sauce? The sandwich was composed of coarsely shredded, moist pork with cole slaw on texas toast. There were three different sauces to make the sandwich as spicy, mustardy or saucy as you want. All three sauces were homemade and spiced a little differently than expected. The Memphis, which was my favorite, tasted a tad sweet and "celery seedy" for my taste but a shot of the Texas sauce brought it just to where I liked it. BTW, even the homemade pickles were excellent. I had half my lunch boxed to go by my friendly waitress, who even offered to put in some extra containers of sauce for the leftovers.

I'm sad to say that I recently patronized the "new" version of this place and almost cried. It was such a great and unique spot before, with great BBQ and reasonable prices with a feel to it like you were at a big cookout. They have now tried to make it more modern, which in turn included taking off some key menu items and raising the prices on the rest. I used to love getting the oink oink platter which was a large assortment of BBQ items for about $40...now $68! Even their burger is $14 dollars. They do have a great staff of bartenders and I'm sure they will find new clientele, but it was sad to see a place I've enjoyed for so long be turned into something that was hard to recognize.

I love BBQ and this one does not disappoint. Be warned, you must be very hungry to come here or you will not finish what you started. The fried pickle app is delicious but VERY large! Don't spoil your appetite. My wife ordered the Chef Salad with the smoked turkey. It was very nice. I ordered the Boss Hog. It had a little bit of everything. I didn't finish my plate because I couldn't stop eating the perfect corn bread. That stuff was over the top! Fun place to eat, right on the street. They offer a selection of local beers. One note, this place is much bigger than it looks. If it seems crowded, don't shy away, they have several eating areas that are hard to see from the street.

The food was FANTASTIC! My husband and I stopped by for a light early lunch. We got the chips and salsa. The chips were ok but the salsa was YUMMO! We decided to share a lunch entree and it's a good thing we did. The portion was huge! The briskit was my husband favorite. Other thant he 1 bite I got of it, he ate the whole portion lol.. The BBQ sauce they use on it is out of this world. We asked to buy some but they don't sell it (MAYBE THE SHOULD!) my favorite was the hog wing. O M G that was so good.. The cornbread was sweet, moist and so so good. It was a nice and very warm day, we sat at a table by the bar. The server was great and kept the ice water coming. The stools were a little uncomfortable because they were so tall (I am 5'1) and I could barely reach the rung to put my feet on so my legs dangle the whole time lol.. The smell of the place is awesome. You can smell it from the street. Its right in the middle of everything and you can sit, relax and people watch.

Having come from the South, I can't write a fair review on this BBQ. I will say the atmosphere is very cool. If you are looking for good BQ, I would advise against coming here. If you are looking for a really awesome place to hang out in Newport and have a drink, this is your place.

We walked past this place on the main drag in Newport and the smoke BBQ smell lured us in. The waitress and service are terrific but wish I could say that about the food, which was inconsistent. The pulled pork and brisket had the same overly flavored BBQ sauce on them. Thick but not in a good way, kind of gelatinous. The pulled pork was not juicy. It just looked like a lump of dry meat caked with that BBQ sauce which was too heavy for the meat to shine through. The brisket had the toughness of steak, My son had the country ribs which were pretty tough. The cole slaw and oniion rings are fantastic. The corn bread, meh. The hog wings were the best thing we ordered. Delicious. It's good to have a BBQ choice on the strip but I've had so much better.

The service is excellent. Very friendly waitress, she warned us about ordering too much telling us what we were getting was plenty to feed our party and suggested to not order more which we were about too. I really appreciated that. The food is pretty bad. Tough ribs, BBQ sauce is very generic. Just not a very good BBQ restaurant. The smell is awesome and the service was great. I would suggest to pass on this place if you're looking for amazing BBQ but if you want to go to a place for a few beers, enjoy the scenery and have food on hand to just munch on, then it fits the bill.

Quaint, open, relaxed environment. I agree with one of the other reviews and think that the pulled pork sandwich has more bread than pork, they should fix that. Everything else was really pretty good and the service was amazing and friendly. A refreshing atmosphere.

Smokehouse Cafe is a small tiki-style restaurant on the main strip (America's cup) of Newport, RI. First off, let's be real. This is Rhode Island, which (last I checked) is north of the Mason-Dixon line. You and I both have stories about amazing barbecue that we've had down south; i've personally had some of the world's best in Texas in Georgia after being stationed down there and visiting. I regularly lust for that kind of stuff up here. What Smokehouse gives you is a polished, consistent, delicious experience in an area that is known for seafood and pastas. I love the outdoor seating; it has an enormous outdoor seating area that is full of benches yet remains classy. Watching the folks cruise the town while enjoying your meal here is some of the best people watching you're going to get. I passed on ribs (based on recommendations) and went with the pulled pork and slaw. The appetizer featured "hog wings" which are basically pork chicken wings (You'll have to try it for it to make sense, I know it sounds ridiculous) The pork is seasoned perfectly and shaved off the bone so that you can have a "grip." With blue cheese dipping sauce, it tickled my "OMFG" bone. The entree was really quite good. Smokey barbecue sauce made a great sandwich of tender pork, and the cole slaw was a chopped (squared) variant that was new and not saturated with mayonnaise. (which probably aggravates the chubby tourists but earns big points in my book....trust your cabbage) Every summer Newport storm and the smokehouse team to do a beer and BBQ pairing; I can't wait to give this a try. (May to October) The only reason that this place loses points is because the hours are ecclectic in the early summer (They closed at 8 pm the first time I came by here, at sunset) and they are only open from April to October. The pulled pork was simply "good" and not earth shaking. (A thought corroborated by my friend with his briskett sandwich) Get the hog wings, enjoy the ambiance, and appreciate the reasonable prices and change of pace. The food here is even thus far with Becky's in Middletown, with Becky's being the cheap take-home option. I really want to give this place a 4th star; we'll see how they fare the next time I come by. (They're teetering right now) Worth a try!

Being a seasonal place I finally got a chance to give the Smokehouse a try while visiting Newport over the summer. We got there early for lunch on a Saturday and had no trouble getting a table for two. Between the two of us on this visit I had a chance to sample the baby back pork ribs, the pulled pork, and the Smokehouse Hog Wings - Buffalo style. The conclusion? The baby back pork ribs are not worth a revisit. Though they had a good taste they were more trouble than I like getting the meat off the bone -- in other words a definite pass. The pulled pork was great but with the load of BBQ sauce on it I could not imagine eating much of it. The real winner, and the sole reason for four stars on this review -- was the Smokehouse Hog Wings - Buffalo style. Spicy hot with tender meat that came right off the bone.

YUM! My boyfriend and I spent a few days in Newport and could not resist the unbelievable smell being pumped out of this place! We went there for dinner on our last night and it was AMAZING! The dinners are huge, service was awesome and the drinks were great! I would definitely recommend the Hog Wings and Mojitos!

Ok, this is getting five stars for quality and quantity! Drinks are served in mason jars for the same price you get them elsewhere in Newport in a solo cup. Our bartender was great and mad fabulous recommendations. We sat outside and people watched and shared the combo platter for two. The bartender warned us it could probably serve four and he was right! The portions were enormous. The food was delicious, authentic BBQ, even for a husband and wife team who have each lived in the south.

If your looking for an outdoor atmosphere the Smokehouse is for you, the drinks keep coming and served in mason jars is a nice touch, friendly bartenders and great service all around its only about 200 ft away from the organized chaos of Bowens Wharf but yet you feel the energy of the city as the cars drive by go ahead and have a blast and some Sangria.

We stopped here for lunch while staying in Newport for the week last year. If you're looking for a quick bite while strolling around Newport, this is a worthy stop. The food was decent; I had the Texas Longhorn sandwich and my girlfriend had the Hog Pen sandwich. I liked my meal more than my girlfriend liked hers. It wasn't a knock your socks off amazing meal, but it wasn't bad either. Hence making this place something to consider for a quick bite to hold you off until dinner.

Smokehouse Cafe is OK. It's totally fine for what it is; a BBQ joint on the water in a famous seaport. If you've been in Newport for a week and are sick of seafood, or if it's St. Pat's and everywhere else has a 45 minute wait, the Smokehouse is probably just right. In our case, it was convenient, it was on our way, and everything was exactly that: OK - the pork was a little dry, the service wasn't awesome, but it was exactly what you'd expect. It's not disappointing, but it's not awesome, either.

This was my first time at The Smokehouse Cafe and I was impressed. From the smells that are generated from this place, my expectations were really high and for the most part, they were met. My husband and I had an early dinner after venturing down Thames Street for a bit. There was no wait and we got a nice seat on their deck. It's the perfect seat if you like to watch the tourists walk by with their horrible fashion and big bellies hanging over their tiny little pants. It was a bit chilly out however, but that's Newport's own fault. I ordered a Pina Colada which was pretty good! I usually like my drinks a little stronger but it was satisfying. For an appetizer, we ordered the bacon and cheddar donuts and they were so darn good! I have never tasted so much flavor in a little fried ball and the sauce had just enough kick. The portion was great too! There was definitely enough for at least three people! I ordered the baby back ribs and they were good, but I think my expectations made it seem like these ribs would be the best thing I ever put in my mouth. The sauce was nice and hot, and there as plenty of meat on these ribs. I think they could have been cooked just a tad bit longer because sometimes it was a bit chewy. My husband got the surf and turf and although he did not like the shrimp, he liked everything else. We each got a side of baked beans which were really good. They are spicy enough to be paired with ribs! I never touch cole slaw so I cannot say much about that! For the two of us, it was about $80. I cannot say it was worth the $80, but it came close to it.

Oh smokehouse... how I love you. Why do you wave your smells all around like your "all that and then some"? Oh, right, because you ARE. Every summer, I wait for your plastic flaps to come down, and your bar to get stocked up, and for your employees to start rolling in. I love you Smokehouse and cant wait to spend some quality time with you this summer.

All winter and spring I walk by gazing longingly at the plywood structure, remembering summers past filled with hog wings and pina coladas. Then like magic the plywood comes down, the awnings go up and the sweet, sweet smell of barbeque fills the air. As a local, one of my favorite summertime activities is to sit at the high tops in the bar area and watch the Newport Summer Freak Show that rolls by while eating Hog Wings, Smoked Corn and Crab Chowder and drinking Dark 'n Stormies and Pina Coladas. If there are a few of you, the Oink Oink platter is awesome to share, it is A LOT of food. The tastes of this place with haunt you all winter and make you wish it were summer all year round. This place kicks Becky's BBQ in Middletown's ASS. Why would you leave walkable downtown in the summertime to sit in traffic and grab bbq in a house is beyond me...Becky's is good in the winter for a quick bbq fix until the Smokehouse opens... Must tries: BBQ Hog Wings Smoked Corn and Crab Chowder BBQ Brisket Spousal Silence - my new favorite frozen drink!

Visiting for the day before heading to Foxwoods. The Hostess was HORRIBLE. We stood in front of her and she walked away - couple of minutes later - she finally noticed us and as us how many from the bar area - HELLOOO... ORDERED: Onion Rings - Crispy. Raw Items (1-each of oysters, clams, and shrimp) - very fresh, clean however small. Smokehouse Sampler & Baby Back Pork Ribs: - The Ribs were alright - definitely had better. - the Jumbo Chicken Wings - definitely not "JUMBO". - the Hog Wings - AWESOME. Service was a bit on the slow side but not bad though.

Stopped in for a quick, late lunch. Wife had the BBQ brisket, which was huge and tender, and I had a simple medium-rare burger. Food was served extremely fast, exactly the way we ordered it. Draught beer was very cold. The best part was the VERY friendly and professional waitstaff; our waitress was great, and the manager stopped by the table to ask how everything was going. Recommend 100%.

I really enjoyed drinking at this place! Our server knew a ton about the beers on tap, which is always impressive, and the food was good - admittedly, I only tried the oysters and mac & cheese. I'll definitely be back here.

This place is in the middle of everything. We went on the weekend for dinner. The food was great and service was fast. We decided to get a menu drink and they were more expensive than average. My gf ordered a Margarita and we were kind of disappointed that it was in a plastic cup! You can get a window seat and watch people walk. The bacon and cheddar donuts were good. Basically clam cakes without the clams. We would go back for just the food.

I was a fan of the old Smokehouse, they have now redone it and I have to say I have been twice this season, both times have been disappointed in the service and the food. I am a bar sitter so I prefer the atmosphere of the bar. We sat at the bar on arrival there was a woman with her child, there were not too many bar stools available and she was taking 2 of them with her purse on one. Then she put her child on a third and then come to find out she did not pay, the bartender comped her. Personally even if the bartender didn't comp her she should not have taken 3 seats for her and her 1 year old when people are trying to sit. Then I ordered a bourbon smash and it was more like 1/2 a drink.. We then ordered food, the food came out cold. We sent it back it then came out with a side missing. My husbands brisket got regrilled which made it tough. I have to say I am not the only one that sees that this place is simply not better than its former self.

We chose this place because we were in the mood for some BBQ and it was close to where we were staying, but instead of a BBQ restaurant with a bar it seems to be a bar that happens to serve BBQ on the side. The atmosphere is open and somewhat noisy, even when it's not busy. Also the menu on the yelp site was completely different from what we were actually offered. We had the 1/2 lb of brisket with cole slaw and corn bread, along with a side of mac & cheese. Much like many of the other reviews, the brisket had a good flavor and smoke ring, but was on the dry side, probably because it was sliced paper thin. The cole slaw was average, but the cornbread was tasty and moist. We tried three sauces; mustard based, ketchup based, and one that was described as memphis style. the memphis style was the best of the lot; the mustard and ketchup "based" sauces seem to have nothing but the base ingredients. The mac & cheese was also good but could have been baked a little longer. If you in the area and need a BBQ fix, try it out, but don't go out of your way.

This place is GREAT! I was in Newport for a business meeting and I wanted something unique. I walked up to this little bar/restaurant and smelled the BBQ! I had not yelped it, so I thought I was taking a chance but it sure paid off. I LOVE people watching and their patio is a GREAT spot to people watch. I noticed on their menu they have my favorite - FRIED OKRA!!!! I LOVE fried okra. I had the pulled pork & brisket sandwich which I ate without the bun. Good sauce, good amount of meat. I opted to skip the fries and try the beans, but they were nothing special. Yes, I know it is barbecue in Rhode Island (?) but I don't have good barbecue in California so it was excellent to me.

Decent bbq place in Newport. My friend Annette and I were able to get seated in the outdoor bar immediately, which was good for a summer Sat at 7pm. I had the brisket sandwich, which was tasty. Annette had the babyback ribs and thought they weren't meaty enough. They have some interesting sides (greens, mac and cheese, corn) but meals usually come with fries/beans and slaw and they don't let you substitute (I would've been ok w/ paying a couple extra dollars for something else). They do give you small slices of watermelon though, which was refreshing after bbq. Service was quick but our waitress never stopped by for drink refills, etc. Different than seafood and reasonable prices, but I probably won't go back here.

Its a decent BBQ joint. I guess, its the best you can expect from newport, RI. I am not sure how someone from the Memphis or South Carolina would feel about the BBQ here. I've never had BBQ from there...so i can't tell ya. They do give you a lot of food! Wow...there was soo much food and the service was friendly. Our waitress had a super cute personality and friendly :0) What i like about it....it different from the other places in the area. Everyone has the freshes seafood, award winner chowder, best calms, etc. After eating all that seafood for the pass few days..i was seafood out and was jonesing for something different. We caught a whiff of the BBQ and it smelled delicious. It was good...i am not going to say the best, but good, decent. Decent selection of local brews and a different ambiance/ decor than the rest of the place in the area. Which makes it stand out more... Overall....yeah, check it out. It's not bad Price: decent...moderate $$ Decor: Feels kinda like a tikki bar :0) Service: Friendly

Wonderful flavor, quick and friendly service and very generous portions. These suggested menu items were made to us and were spot on delicious: Hog Wings, Nachos and Sampler Platter (enough for 2 to share). Also, it offers a Frequent Diners club, a consortium with other fine/popular Newport restaurants.

The smell of smokey goodness filled the air as we got closer. My wife and I had lunch here early in the day and sat at the bar. The bartender was very helpful and gave us some recommendations on food and also some Newport spots to also check out. I had the brisket and pulled pork sandwich with fries. The food came out quickly which is always a plus for me and it was glorious. The bbq to meat ratio was just right, not too overpowering either. This place also looked like a great place to just have a drink and people watch. It was close to all the shops and is in walking distance to the more populated Wharfs. Definitely check this place out if you come to Newport!

The Smokehouse is a great bar to people watch on America's Cup Ave with good bartenders to keep the libations flowing. there are a lot better restaurants in town than to eat here as it is nothing special-food wise. But this is the best bar to hang at while you figure out what to do next....

While spending a few days in Newport with family visiting from Colorado, we took a recommendation from a resident and gave this restaurant a shot. The meat was wonderful, however, I would recommend plate sharing. The amount of food given is more than ample and, because we were just visiting, a lot of the food went to waste because we could in no way finish it all. I would steer away from the baked beans which didn't have a lot of flavor. I was also not a fan of the cole slaw. Make sure you taste the cornbread. Skip the bacon donut appetizers - no one at the table was impressed. And definitely don't get the frozen margaritas - very little tequila and pretty blah. We did the the pina coladas a big thumbs up.

In with a group of 8. Service wonderful, fast, and attentive. Everyone had snadwiches and ribs. The baby backs were good and tender, the brisket was very good. I had the Memphis Style St Louis which were rather bland and definitely overdone. But, everyone else's claimed great food so I chalk mine up to just one bad but edible meal of the 8.

Strictly as a rib joint it's just two stars. The aroma is good but the product is lacking. I have sampled the St Louis and the baby backs, me thinks they have volume issues as the ribs are sometimes chewy (not long enough or slow enough on the the cooking). The sides are nothing special. They can accommodate larger parties. Table service can be spotty but the bartenders are spot on. * This being Newport they have decent chowda. * The raw bar isn't bad, but you probably end up here to get a break form seafood. * Nice location very central. * Great outdoor bar that affords protection from the sun and the rain.

Nice little place that has a very distinct Non-Newport feeling to it. The food was good, although the skin on my BBQ chicken was rather un-crispy. If that's my only complaint, though, then it was a good place. I heard the fish and chips were very good. Great cornbread. Good cole slaw. Very relaxing room, and we were not rushed through anything.

Been here a few times with friends. This is the best place to go if you like barbecue. Price for the portion you get is good. Down side is that the place is seasonal.

Yum-o. The husband and I rolled into Newport late on a Friday night for the weekend and all it took was a quick waft of the smell of BBQ in the air to bring us in here. I know what you're thinking...BBQ, in Newport? Seafood is the thing, right? Well, when there are 45 minute waits at places like the Black Pearl and Captain Cook's and its already 8:30pm, you eat where you can seat. Well, the Smokehouse did not disappoint. The clam chowder was on par with any other seafood place in the neighborhood. I wish I had gotten a bowl, not a cup. But there is always next time. I had the pulled pork sandwich and my husband had the smoked brisket sandwich. The pulled pork was sweet and melted in your mouth. The brisket was nice and smokey. We shared a side of baked mac n cheese which was very good too (and huge for only $3.50). Next time, I plan on sampling the ribs and giving this place a real run for its money. Hopefully I won't be disappointed.

I absolutely hate leaving a bad review but felt like I had to after the lunch I had here a few days ago. I had walked by The Smokehouse many times and always was interested because of the delicious smell of smoked ribs that always wafted from the place. I finally decided to stop in with my family and was SO disappointed. We ordered a full rack of baby back ribs and they were a charred, dry mess. My sister ordered a burger that had the weirdest plastic like flavor. The coleslaw was watery and flavorless and the cornbread tasted like it came out of a box. It was one of the worst meals I have had in a long time and definitely not what I would expect from a company that consistently always wows me. Hopefully, there will be a change next year in the preparation of food because they have a fantastic spot in Newport and a good idea to work off of. I don't plan on ever going back until there are changes made there.

Ok, I will admit I'm not aBBQ aficionado, I'm in no way obsessed with BBQ and even though I've had it all over the country, I can't say which would be my favorite. But I can say that I thought the food at the Smokehouse was reeealaallllly good, The Hog Wings are to die for, and their chowder is good. I also liked the bar if you wanted to sit somewhat outside and watch the Sox.

Good BBQ but prices are a bit high compared to Becky's BBQ . The service at Becky's is so friendly and quick, you feel like you are eating at Grandma's house! If you are downtown this will do but you wait a bit too!

NOT good. Wings - huge, difficult to eat, sauce was suprisingly unappetizing - we really didn't think there was anything to die for there, but that's just my opinion. Ribs were UNBELIEVABLY dry. We could barely cut them. Our fries were even cold, and though I will say that they were quickly replaced, they were NOT good. We did not like their bbq sauce at all. Washrooms were really dirty and smelly, too! Our server was a nice girl, but didn't even ask if everything was ok - despite seeing the majority of our food left on our plates. The manager walked by once but spent most of the evening with his drinking buddies on the patio. Both server and manager ignored our desire to pay the bill... I'm hoping it was just an off night, as the other reviews are much more positive. Quite frankly, however, I have never taken the time to bother to write a negative review anywhere - ever - but this experience prompted me to do so. I highly recommend you wait in line somewhere else!
