Gave this place a second chance after my first visit was horrific. Same thing this time. Slow service and unattentive wait staff. The wait staff spends more time talking to each other than attending to customers. It took us almost 2 hours for a cheeseburger and a grilled cheese. It was not very busy and all we did was wait. There are so many other choices in the area. Save the frustration and go somewhere else.

Newport Creamery (the one that is actually IN Newport) is one of my favorite places to eat. Whether I feel like having a meal, a snack, or some ice cream or a milkshake, this restaurant never fails to satisfy. After just half a semester at a local college, I had frequented Newport Creamery enough times that my mother knew to purchase me a gift card there for Christmas. They literally have all of my favorite foods. Mozzarella sticks, chicken fingers... I guess I don't stray very far from my preferred comfort foods. But why should I? They're just so good. We went to Newport Creamery for a field trip once, too. My teacher and classmates introduced some of us to Awful Awfuls. I never thought I could be so into milkshakes, but Newport Creamery made me an addict. If I see a sign for the restaurant, or see one of their cups anywhere, I automatically need an Awful Awful. They're just so good. Which leads me to wonder who the heck named them... I tried a chocolate one once, really can't go wrong with that. I think I even got sprinkles in it... Kind of weird, but still tasty. Then, I graduated to one of the specialty flavors, Choc-O-Nutter. Basically just a peanut butter and chocolate milkshake. Probably one of the best things I've ever had. If I'm having a bad day, you can bet that you'll see one in my hand. It's delicious enough to turn a frown upside down, even if just temporarily. The prices here are moderate. Of course I would prefer not to spend five dollars on a cup of frozen milk, but like most things, if you want it badly enough, you'll fork over the money. And I'm a sucker for it every time. Sometimes I settle for some apple crisp because it's also really good and is slightly less expensive, but overall, I'd say anything served at Newport Creamery is worth its price.

If writing about the ice cream alone, I would've given it 4 stars. The place is a decent set up. However, when I go anywhere I would appreciate all around good service. The service here is incredibly disappointing. We walked in to a sign that stated to wait to be seated, so we did. A young girl who worked there then borderline shouted at us to ask what we wanted from over the bar. We asked if we could sit at the bar and told her we would only like ice cream. She then told us something incoherent and pointed at a table. We confusedly walked to the table and sat ourselves. A male waiter then came over and was less than helpful, did not make us feel welcome or as if we could ask any questions. He only spoke up when he returned our check as if telling us to have a good day while he walked away is going to guarantee him a good tip. Sigh. We enjoyed out banana split?...

Smells bad. Public just walking in and destroying the rest rooms in front of paying clients. My menu was dirty and I was ignored. .. We left. Not the family spot it's supposed to be

While staying in Newport I drove around alittle and spotted Newport Creamery Ice Cream Shop and I decided to stop in for an after dinner treat. When I entered the establishment, I was surprised to discover that the creamery was actually a dinner. I ended up grabbing a seat at the counter, although there were plenty of booths. The counter could benefit from a good cleaning, as it was really sticky and seemed dirty. Menus (which also could have used a good cleaning) were brought out quickly and contained plenty of options for both food and dessert. There were plenty of sundaes to pick from, or you could make your own. I ended up getting chocolate ice cream with jimmies. It was good, but nothing to write home about. Service was very slow at the end of the meal, and it took more time for them to bring the check then it did to eat my ice cream. It appears that Newport Creamery Ice Cream is more of a locals place then a tourist stop.

Awful Awful time!! The more you drink an Awful Awful, the more awfully addicted to it you become. The following is based on ice cream (sit down service) only. The best pick here: a coffee Awful Awful!! This is a classic Rhode Island treat. It's easy to understand why after a few sips!! It has a different texture than a milkshake and a frappe since it's made with ice milk instead of ice cream. It's slightly lighter than a frappe, and has a much better flavor than a coffee frappe here. (The coffee frappe at Newport Creamery has a very strong coffee flavor, and wasn't really very tasty to me. Good, but I prefer--and absolutely love--the flavor and texture of the Awful Awful.) A coffee Awful Awful is similar to a much thicker coffee milk (Rhode Island's state drink, and a spectacular flavor of milk). Once you decide on an Awful Awful, you have a tough choice to make--a junior size (about 12 ounces), a regular size (24 ounces) or a larger size (32 ounces). I found the 24 ounce size to be perfect. My taste buds and tummy were satisfied. I wasn't overwhelmed or overly full after I took my time sipping my liquid treat. But if you're into it, go for the big one; or get the regular size for dining in and a junior size to go!! The ice cream here is good, as is the hot fudge. Other treats offered include sherbet. The sizes are exactly as much as they say--no more, no less. Our server was friendly and very pleasant. It may not be the best service overall if it's busy, but then again you get to enjoy your treats and your company, and the nice old school diner surroundings. The restaurant is kept up well and is pretty clean. It's really comfortable, so it's a nice place to enjoy your treats. This location of Newport Creamery is a few blocks from the heart of Newport at the wharf, across from the International Tennis Hall of Fame, tucked into an upscale strip mall. You have the option of going to the take-out window out front or going inside to sit down and relax. This is a definite stop when you're in Newport!! And get the classic: an Awful Awful. It's awfully tasty and awfully satisfying.

Needs a new cook and a new waitress, she gave me a Frappe rather than an Awful Awful and my chicken sandwich was barely cooked...too tough to chew. I had the exact same thing 3 nights ago with no problems. I had to go to another place to get a lunch.

I had no idea the Newport Creamery existed until we were driving up to Newport Vineyards and passed another location. I was dying to try out their ice cream. The hubby and I were shopping on Bellevue and we noticed that the Newport Creamery had a location across the street from us. This was the last stop on our trip to Newport and it definitely was a great finale. They have a walk up window, but we decided to dine in (I needed to use the ladies room). We sat at the counter. We were served by Cody. Cody was very sweet and offered us tastes of flavors before we placed our order. Definitely sit in his area if you go in. After trying a couple flavors, the hubby and I settled on Strawberry, Cookies & Cream, and Mint Chocolate Chip. Cody was super nice and let us get the 3 scoop ice cream in 3 separate cups so the flavors wouldn't mingle. The scoops are a nice size too. The ice cream was so fresh and delicious. It was super creamy and just melted in our mouths. This is a quality product. I'm disappointed that it took our 3rd trip to Newport to find this gem. Better late than never! We only had ice cream, so I cannot comment on the food. This restaurant reminded me of Friendly's though. Very similar vibe and concept. Looking forward to our next trip to Newport so I can frequent the Newport Creamery again!

Terrible store smells bad like rotting milk. Portions are tiny but the price is large. Rip off all around. Avoid

I think the rating description pretty much sums it up - A-OK. But just okay. Starting off with the ice cream - it is really good ice cream, no complaints there. I was here twice on my "vacation" in Newport, and both times I really enjoyed the ice cream. I just got a waffle cone each time. If the review stopped here it would be a 5; alas, it continues... The service was s-l-o-w both times we went, it actually surprised us! The first they were close to closing time so I realize that they were trying to get the end of day tasks completed so they can go home on time but really... leaving us standing there for 15 minutes to scoop 4 scoops of ice cream is unacceptable. The cashier acted like it was her first time doing anything and no one was there to help, so she couldn't have been training... The second visit was pretty much the same, but it was no where near closing. We could see they were NOT busy inside and it took them so long to even take our order and then prepare it that two other groups of people came up to the line and LEFT because it took F_O_R_E_V_E_R. We were very surprised - the staff acted like they did not know what they were doing. Finally one girl came from out of nowhere, took over the task of getting our payment and getting us our ice cream, and we were out within 5 minutes. So, sadly, the service earns this place a 3... but the ice cream was good enough that I would give it another go if we return to Newport. *If anyone is interested in time frame of when we were there, it was late August, 2014. Staff may have changed by now.*

Ate here for the first time and it was great, had the appetizers for dinner and ordered a kids meal for my son. The staff was really friendly and my son enjoyed all the attention. Place was really clean and inviting, this looks it will be a local favorite of ours. The ice cream menu is huge, can't wait to try something from that menu!

free parking off-season and a gigantic menu that rivals any diner. we came in for a late breakfast / early lunch before going seal watching. the chicken and waffles was a hearty portion of several gigundo waffles and very crispy chicken tenders. I actually liked the waffles a bit more than the chicken, though a syrup/butter mixture that I whipped up and slathered over it all held it all together. not high-concept, but simple and to the point. I couldn't shake the feeling that we had entered a bizarro version of Friendly's, with the decor. inexpensive and the service was fairly fast; it was pretty busy at 11 when we came. I didn't get to try the famous Awful Awful, but would definitely like to do so on a return trip.

DO NOT GET FOOD. Haha. Almost tasted and felt like a microwaved burger. As for the coffee awful awful (it's a drink) it was very tasty. Medium filled me up fast.

Beachy towns always have that one really good diner that specializes in ice cream but also acts as a solid diner. Clearly, the Newport Creamery is such for Newport. Mike and I popped in for a quick brunch before going seal-watching but will definitely be back next time we're in town.

A childhood favorite of mine, fantastic food and good local atmosphere. Great prices, and lots of ice cream, if you've never had an Awful-Awful shake, you must try one!

Those awful awful cups remind me of In-N-Out... PROS: - Fast, friendly service - Walk up to the service window or have a sit-down experience to enjoy the bountiful desserts - Ice cream and shakes galore. I ordered a small cookie dough ice cream iwhich is more than enough for one person. You have a choice between a waffle cone, sugar cone, or plain cone. There are junior sizes available but I didn't know about it until a kid behind me in line ordered it. - Parking can be validated here! CONS: - Nothing to note! Overall, a typical ice cream shop with typical flavors.

Went to the outdoor take out counter. Ordered two sundaes. One with sprinkles with an extra charge. No sprinkles to be found and one of the sundaes was wrong. I regret to tip after getting home and finding out it was wrong

Disgusting! Long wait for nasty food! My daughter ordered the chicken tender meal, it was HARD AS A ROCK! My husband got the super burger, it was supposed to be well done, it was burnt to black! I ordered a " turkey club" my fries were cold and there wasn't anything fresh in my sandwich and to top it off my bread was toasted to black. I think because this Newport Creamery is in Newport RI. they should step up their game. Get a new cook!

I came with my husband in between touring the mansions. It reminds me very much of a Friendly's Restaurant. It's nothing fancy, but the place is clean and the service is friendly. For starters, we got the clam chowder. The chowder was creamy and had good flavor. More potatoes than clams, but hot and tasty all the same. I ordered the Smokey Mountain burger with no tomatoes, onions or lettuce (it comes with all those things if you like them). The burger was cooked to my wellness preference. The bbq sauce was flavorful and the bacon was nice and crunchy. My husband was not in love with his chicken wrap saying that he did not like the taste of the chicken. We both agree the fries were great. I tried their chocolate peanut butter chip frozen yogurt for dessert and my husband ordered their "Awful, Awful" Low fat chocolate shake. We both enjoyed the flavors. Our server Emily was quick, polite and friendly. Listening to other servers waiting on their customers, I observed the same friendly service. I would definitely come here again.

Like all normal humans with functional taste buds, I love ice cream. Typically though, I'll err on the side of lower fat options when possible. When not possible, I'll cash in a creamy fat token and suffer the consequences. I recently had no choice but to eat a cup of some stellar ice cream at Newport Creamery (sidenote: using the word "creamery" in your shop's name is like foreplay for ice cream lovers). For the first time ever, I encountered a flavor that shows me that someone out there is thinking in terms of Ice Cream Flavors That Will Knock Beth R.'s Socks From Her Feet. As easy as it is to love ice cream and find something good anywhere, it's pretty special to find a graham cracker flavored ice cream with graham bits and chocolate-covered "honeycomb" pieces. Bonus points for a clever name: Graham Central Station. I decided on a scoop, instead of going for the full s'mores effect with a sundae, and it was so, so, good. So much graham cracker flavor and the chocolate pieces were a perfect complement. I'm sad I won't be a regular at Newport Creamery but maybe the word will get out that graham cracker is the new salted caramel. A girl can hope. And I'm that girl. Keep up the yummy work, NC!

A visit to the Tennis Hall of Fame is not complete without a visit to the Newport Creamery. They also validate parking. We've only tried their ice cream here. Haven't had the opportunity to eat lunch or dinner here yet. My favorite flavors are their Cookies & Cream, Maple Walnut, Cashew Caramel Turtle, and their Black Raspberry. In our experience, the service has always been fine and helpful. The restaurant is nice and clean. The ice cream prices are reasonable. If we lived in the area, we would return here often.

My experience here was rather limited since we only were in town for a couple of days, but I'd read so much about Awful Awfuls in tour books and such that I just had to try one. First, the place had a bit of an odor to it. Kinda like it'd be mopped with water that wasn't entirely clean. But I was willing to look past it, at least to order and take our desserts to-go. Second, I think you really need to go in with the mindset that an Awful Awful is made with plain ice MILK and syrup as opposed to ice cream. I went with the recommendation of the guy behind the counter and got the peanut butter chocolate flavor, so the fact that it was made with milk as opposed to cream was probably very much a benefit since peanut butter is so rich as it is. Still, it was a little bit on the peanut buttery side (not even sure there was chocolate in it) and I have to say that I can typically get over the richness (in other words, my peanut butter custard shake at Shake Shack would take the cake in a head to head). With the ice crystals from the milk barely noticeable to the tongue, I think you could call an Awful Awful more refreshing in some ways than a shake. My dad and hubby both tried the coffee flavor and I don't think either of them was super impressed. My dad's comment was that he'd "Sick with his UDF milkshakes." So, to each his own I supposed, but I guess my family is made for the cream variety! The creamery does of course also serve ice cream treats, and I was really eying that pumpkin flavor for next time.

The food was just ok but the ice cream makes up for it. We had the clam chowder in a bread bowl and it was pretty good. The grilled cheese was almost uneatable but The Awful Awful was one of the best milkshakes I have had,

I was recommended by some random locals to try this place. Had a two scoop sundae with whip cream and peanut syrup. It looked good, smelled good but was highly disappointing in its taste. The two scoops sampled were mint chocolate chip and red velvet. Both tasted rather run of the mill. I probably could have made one at home that tasted just as good.

I am such a tourist... I LOVE THIS PLACE! Okay, where else can you get TWO HUGE SCOOPS of delicious ice cream for $3 and some change? I went through some serious Newport Creamery ice cream withdrawal for a few days after visiting this place. I am tempted to make the drive back to Newport from Manhattan one of these days just to pig out on the ice cream... Okay, at this point I've probably raised your expectations so high that you're thinking this is the Four Seasons of creamery... let me bring you back to reality. This is a quaint little ice cream shop that also serves food. It resembles a Dairy Queen with even less enticing color-set in the decor. Can't vouch for the food, but the ice cream was nothing short of fantastic. There are so many flavors, but my favorite is the pudding flavor and chocolate chocolate (okay, that was two... I couldn't decide between the two!). Please, please, please Newport Creamery... open a branch in Manhattan!

When you are looking for a quick lunch and don't want to pay the high prices of the seafood restaurants, the Newport Creamery is a great place to grab a quick bite. The location is close to the mansions, so that is ideal for hungry tourists. The calorie count may not be low, but the food will satisfy you. My husband and I both had the Smoky Mountain BBQ burger with sweet potato fries and it hit the spot. The hot chocolate was good and my husband enjoyed his "awful, awful" chocolate shake which was thick and creamy. The service was quick as well. I would come back here to try out their famous ice cream, and they also have pints that you can take home with you.

Walking into Newport Creamery, you get a bad smell. It smells like an outhouse. But you get over and grab a booth. Awful awful please! If you are like me and can't finish a meal if her life depended on it, then I would recommend the jr. awful awful. I probably had about half but close to 75% of it till I was full and wanted to puke. Its awfully big and awfully good. The food, well its like a Friendly's. Its ok, nothing to brag home about. I got the tuna melt and it was alrite. I did like the melted cheddar. My bf ordered the burger and he enjoyed it. Service here is really nice and quick. A nice atmosphere despite the awful stench.

We just stopped in for a quick ice cream and place to change the baby. A pet peeve now that I have a baby is places that don't have changing tables in the bathroom, especially if they have the room. Well, they don't have a changing table but they also don't have the room here, very tiny ladies room. It's obviously an old business that has been in this location for a long time. Had a milk shake, it was OK, but personally I don't like it when places feel the need to add sugar to a milk shake. I like them to be just what the name implies, ice cream + milk, blended, simple and good. I found it too sweet but still tasty. I should have paid attention when the waitress described to us that they were made with ice-milk and syrup, not ice cream. Looks like the ice cream alone or sundae would have been a better bet. Maybe we'll try again on another vacation.

I'm from Maryland and I enjoyed the creamery - very similar to Friendly's. I had a strawberry banana milkshake that was very sweet and a good texture. Also tried the banana walnut french toast - amazing! Good price as well.

An awful awful good place I've been here many times and it's always good. The ice cream is great and most of the other food is pretty decent. The awful awful's have put many a pound on my butt. The actually service is usually pretty quick even though the place gets crazy In the summer. It's the great location that has been changed several time over the years, the newest renovations give it a much roomer feel. A cool place for some cool food and within walking distance to the Cliff Walk or Downtown Newport

  • Renee W.

Friends told us about the Awful Awful coffee milkshake so we had to try it. It also happened to be lunchtime after we'd taken a long hike on the Cliff Walk, so we decided to order real food. I'm going to put out there that this place is better for (1) icecream and (2) 1950's diner ambience and not the food. Chicken quesadilla: what is the main ingredient in a quesadilla? That would be CHEESE. what was this dish missing? you guessed it - cheese. One large burrito-sized tortilla was folded in half with barely a sprinkle of cheese to keep it together, a tiny bit of chopped up chicken and some chopped up bacon/tomatoes. When I said something to the waitress she said "yeah, i know. sometimes i get a wedge and it doesn't even have anything in it". Niiiiiice. Tuna & Cheddar melt: my hubby fell victim to the photo on the menu, for shame. The actual item was pretty small, with your standard deli tuna salad and barely any cheddar, and not really creamy/warm/melty at all. Double burger club: our friend ordered this & said it was pretty decent. what I saw was barely any meat on some of his 1/4 wedges of the sandwich. But their mint chocolate chip icecream was AMAZING and the awful awful coffee was delicious. Ambience cute & kitschy, but for not being very busy they took a lloooooooong time getting us the sub-par food.

The staff was rude and took 30 minutes to make 4 milkshakes. Awful Awful is right. The ice cream is good but not that good. We figured we would get a gold cherry on top after waiting in the heat for so long!!! The cup was half full of ice cream and half melted when we finally got them. THEY WEREN'T EVEN BUSY!!!

  • Alex H.

Absolute tourist trap. Slow service, mediocre food and no cell phone service to help you waste your 40 mins waiting for your food or the check. My burger came on sandwich bread, who does that? I know it's an ice cream place but I was not about to wait another 20 minutes for them to scoop that after my meal.

Oh my, how the mighty have fallen. What used to be the best short order grill in Newport can't get their thumb out of their butt these days. At one time the Creamery was a model of efficiency, with waitresses and grill staff hustling to feed the masses and turn over the tables, with honest unprocessed food. Our last experience at this particular outpost was not positive. A long wait, a pokey waitress, burnt burgers and raw weiners rate this restaurant one star. An extra star is given for old times sake, and the awful awful. Come on NC; the remodel will not save you with this performance.

When my dad was a growing up in Newport back in the 50s, he must have held a dozen or more jobs over the summers. We tease him because he's always revealing more: once it was a summer spent in a tannery, coming home reeking of ammonia; another summer was passed caddying at the local country club; and one summer he was elbow-deep in big, delicious vats of Newport Creamery ice cream. Naturally when we go back to visit family in Newport we have to make the Creamery a stop. I can't comment on the food here -- just the ice cream. The line looks long, but it moves fast. And the line's long because the ice cream is that good. It's made in-house, is dense, mouth-soft, and decadently creamy. They have a wonderful variety of unusual flavors from Black Raspberry to Frozen Pudding. My personal favorite is Peppermint Stick -- I heart peppermint ice cream (different from mint choco chip, of course, which is also a winner), and I heart any place that makes it as good as the Creamery does. They also make a variety of mind-blowing shakes and frozen drinks, including the infamous Awful Awful, their answer to a shake, but a thicker, creamier, more addictive version. The Creamery has recently added some new, inventive "Outrageous" Awful Awfuls to the menu. I'm not surprised to read the so-so reviews of the food, and if you're only in Newport for a few days you'd probably rather gorge yourself on seafood than diner food anyway. But do stop by and get yourself a frozen treat at one of Newport's most beloved and oldest dining institutions. [15 Minutes of Fame: "FoodNation with Bobby Flay"]

Some of the best ice cream I've ever had! It's smooth, rich, and creamy :) I had the red velvet, cashew turtle, and mint choc chip - all were great. If the dish were more wide than tall the flavors could have stayed a little more separate but I enjoyed nonetheless.

Had a large cup of choc chip cookie dough. Good, with large chunks of chocolate and nice nuggets of dough. Cup was far larger than the three scoops, which made it appear as if I hadn't gotten enough (compared to other places that cram a couple of scoops into a tiny cup to overwhelm you). However, it was a sufficient serving. My wife tried an awful-awful, which is a type of shake (awfully big, awfully good, they say). She asked for orange, thinking that it would taste like creamsicle/orange cream; however, it was just orange. Overheard the window girl telling another customer (who had asked) that there wasn't ice cream per se in the awful-awful, just milk. Take that for what it's worth. All in all, a solid visit, but docked a star because of the expectation of orange cream.

Had two scoops and it was yummmmmy. Well, I had a bite of the two scoops...my boyfriend had the rest. But he was talking about it for days and said it was one of the best no-sugar added coffee ice creams he's ever had.

we stopped in here after reading the great reviews on yelp for a quick dinner before a movie. We seated ourselves, it was a Sunday night so the place wasn't busy. We got mozzarella sticks to start then I ordered a grilled cheese on wheat with regular fries and my bf got chicken fingers with fries as well. The mozzarella sticks were blah, nothing special. When my meal came, I got white bread instead of the wheat I'd ordered and seasoned fries instead of the regular .. but whatever, I didn't really eat them anyway. My bf said the chicken fingers were good but wasn't sure if he'd order them again. although there were only two other tables seated at the creamery, it was difficult to get the attention of my less-than-enthusiastic teenage waitress. in fact my entire meal went without ketchup or one drink refill. minus points for her.. being thirsty sucks. After our meal we decided to try the infamous Awful Awful milkshake. It was good, but I don't understand what all the fuss is about.. we've had much better milkshakes from Johnny Rockets or any fast food joint really. I guess overall it was OK if you're looking for a quick & cheap meal. I must've set my expectations way too high after reading the reviews here. we probably wont be back.

Just went for a quick ice cream, so I can't comment on the food, although I'll echo the commentary about the likeness to Friendly's (decor, food, and seemingly slow service). I ordered a coffee awful awful. While it wasn't the best "frappe" milk shake whatever you want to call it, it also wasn't awful. The major downer was that they used vanilla ice cream to make my coffee shake. I'll pas on the squirk of fake coffee goo for real coffee ice cream please. In short, if you're looking for a quick cone, Newport Creamery should suffice - other than that, I'm sure there are other places that would suffice.

5 stars, why yes. It's not fine dining but that's not the point. It's a comfortable place with great tasting food and ice cream treats with a friendly attentive staff. I have always enjoyed eating anything I have ever ordered and will always go back. That's why it gets 5 stars.

Okay, so only 5 stars in regards to the ice cream and the Awful Awfuls - but the Creamery is a yearly tradition when I visit the littlest state in the union, even if the term "milkshake" is a confusing one when I order.

The ice cream is really really good. Like, almost as good as Coldstone. The food itself is very Denny's. I think that about sums it up entirely. Get the seasoned french fries. Avoid anything with fish. Trust me. Three stars. Cool classic layout of the restaurant, although it could be updated.

Had I known about the "Awful Awful" I would have ordered that instead of the meal I had. A simple salad and bowl of soup. Nothing to write home about, but it served its purpose. While eating I did talk to a friendly former locale who shared their memories of growing up in Newport and how if you drank two (I believe this was the correct number) of the creamery's milkshakes the third was free. Apparently, now it's three and the fourth is free. Yikes! One just sounds like a lot for me. I would definitely give this place another chance, but this time only for ice cream or a milkshake - I'll have dinner somewhere else. : )

The ice cream is FANTASTIC, but the food isn't as good as I expected. Famous for the "Awful, Awful," the Creamery is a Newport standard, but you're unlikely to find yourself returning for the food. I recommend some of the more obscure ice cream flavors - if it sounds weird, it probably tastes great.

Never mind that it is pretty much a rip-off of Friendly's; Newport creamery is a New England institution. The most famous item is the Awful Awful, a milkshake with surprising similarity to the Friendly's Fribble. I can admit to attempting to drink 3 Awful Awfuls in an attempt to get the free one - let's just say that it didn't go too well, and I won't ever try it again. I haven't tried the food, but the ice cream is top notch.

We were steered here by friend who grew up in Rhode Island and told us we had to try an "Awful Awful.' Not being from the area we thought, " A WHAT?" The experience certainly did not disappoint the sweet tooth of this orthodontist's daughter. Called Awful, Awful because they're awful awful good, it is Newport Creamery's famous thick, huge milkshake. Apparently you can get one free if you manage to put away three of these shakes. I have a feeling this hall of flab is really small because these things are filling! The Newport Creamery echoed with a touch of nostalgia for a simpler time. Part soda fountain, part sandwich shop, I half expected the teenage cast of several 70's TV shows to materialize at any moment for Cherry Cokes and fries. This was one of my best ice cream experiences ever! It actually lead me to Enlightenment, if only in the ice cream realm. This is what ice cream used to be. It's called Ice Cream because there are crystals and chucks of ice in the cream. DUH!!! Oh and the flavors. Well. I had two scoops of cashew Carmel Turtle. Cashews were roasted and rolled into not too sweet Carmel and Vanilla ice cream with chucks of chocolate. It was wonderful! My mother had one scoop of Raspberry. It tasted like a whole field of Raspberries!!! So good. All you needed was one scoop. Quality of quantity my friends! This is the place to go after shopping or a busy day at the Mansions.

Mediocre icecream. Terrible service. Came in just for ice cream and had to wait about 10 minutes to get seated. All the staff was just hanging out visibly in the kitchen placing their personal orders. Once finally seated we were ignored for a while. Took forever to get icecream and then the check. Not impressed at all with the staff. All are unprofessional and visibly appear to do the absolute minimum amount of work required. Better icecream options on Newport.

Wow. After having the takeout window shut in our faces without so much of as a glance from the man behind the counter, he took our orders all together, even though we tried to tell him they were separate. Then he had us repeat them several times. Finally, after waiting what felt like an age, we received our truly aptly named "Awful Awfuls". My friend got mocha (3.45 for 12 ounces), while I got mint chocolate (4.50 for 24, no wonder they don't post their prices). Then our server walked away... Without having deigned to give us straws. I had to repeat my carefully controlled but still polite request to get them three times before the shift supervisor finally looked up and answered me. He was one of three within earshot. My drink tasted like mint milk, it was so thin, and my friend's mocha was so bland she forgot the flavor before she finished. Disturbingly bad. We won't be going near this place again.

The ice cream here was pretty good, but a little freezer burned. However, the service was not good. The employees seemed very unhappy, and were incredibly inattentive. I had to repeat my order several times to an employee because he was not listening, and afterwards he was extremely rude to me. I was very disappointed in the service and do not plan on coming back any time soon.

Menu felt like Friendly's but everything has a homemade quality. Asked me how I wanted my "big beef" double burger and proceeded to overcook it. And it wasn't that big. Potato salad was tasty but small. Got mistakenly charged for water which we had to correct. Overall it was a disappointing meal except the milkshake was pretty good.

I honestly couldn't have been more disgusted with my visit. My girlfriend and I had to leave before we even ordered. The lady at the ice cream window was so obnoxiously rude, it made our stomachs turn.

In the grand scheme of fancy ice cream at uppity ice cream places, this is not uppity fancy ice cream. This is just ice cream. BUT, what makes this place win is the fact that they put toppings in the bottom of their sundaes. It's always a nice surprise to find a big glob of hot fudge underneath your ice cream. That's what made this place a solid post-beach find. Extra bonus: After Labor Day and after the boat show, the parking in this Bellevue Shopping Center is free.
