It was difficult to find something quick and relatively low budget while touring the mansions in Newport. Despina's fit the bill perfectly. With an assortment of sandwiches, Greek food, and pastries to offer, Despina's has something to offer for most palates. I had a bowl of the spinach and tortellini soup which was tasty and definitely home made. I also had an eclair that I enjoyed. The service here was definitely the welcoming and hospitable service that comes along with a small locally owned establishment. Give Despina's your business when looking for a quick lunch nearby the historic homes.

Stopped by here for a little snack before we visited the nearby historic mansions. We were greeted on the way in as well. The first thing I noticed about the menu was the attention to detail for all the ingredients. If you order a sandwich, they'll ask you if you want the bread toasted, the cheese melted, the type of bread (selection is plentiful), and other knickknacks about the ingredients. I finally decided upon the chicken pot pie and it came out warm and flavorful, but nothing overly special about it. The lady at the counter was very courteous and walked up to our table giving us water (we didn't even ask for it) when she saw we weren't drinking anything yet. At the end of our meal, the lady asked us how our meal was. Nice little family-run business and great service.

If you are visiting the mansions and want a quick easy stop for lunch this is the place. Great friendly service and really good simple foods. Sandwiches with Boarshead meats and cheeses and specials like mac and cheese or chicken pot pie. In less an hour we were back to sightseeing. fantastic!

The food was mediocre at best. A sandwich place that ran out of tuna salad, chicken salad and soup... The other choices weren't too impressive. That pretty much sums it up.

My wife and I stopped in after doing the Cliff Walk. I had the Italian sub and she had the tuna sandwich. The Italian was very tasty! My wife said that her tuna was very good! Peanut butter cookie with Hershey kiss was a nice finishing touch! Nice little place - would definitely recommend.

Very friendly staff & delicious simple sandwiches. Great for a quick bite or to curb your craving for something sweet or savory. They serve breakfast and lunch, and coffee is available all day.

An unassuming breakfast lunch space that hits the spot and takes it easy on the wallet. We had the Italian sub which was a steal at eight bucks (ask for it warm). The salad was super fresh too! We stayed for the pastries, which were right out of the oven. Very clean. Way nice staff. Am I in overpriced Newport??? This place is a hidden gem.

I used to work in the plaza of this cafe and when I walked in, I automatically loved it. The staff was super friendly, granted I walked in with a regular customer, who is a friend of mine. My friend had called in the order which was a nice option. I had ordered the veggie wrap, so happy i had too. It was a delicious combination of fresh veggies with swiss cheese, you could get it with vinegar or mayo but i opted for neither. Delicious!! Now, the pastry case, what can I say? So many options, but, very good, not do ordinary options. For me, it was a decision between the eclair, the mint brownie which has a beautiful green later of mint cream, or the cookie dough cheesecake. Well, I ended up getting the latter of the three. Phenomenal!! It was as if I spent a booku amount of money for it, it was rich without being overbearing. Definitely happy my friend introduced me to this place and would very halt in recommending it.

Great food and reasonable prices! The perfect place for breakfast or an afternoon bite. If you're lucky, find a day when they have chorizo and peppers!

Very clean inside. The staff were very friendly and informative and recommended their breakfast sandwich as this was my first visit. The food was very fresh and very good. I also cannot complain at the size of the large coffee and the price is right for what I got and seems a bit on the cheaper side than most places in Newport. I will definitely recommend and visit again.

We had some of the best soup today. Both the corn chowder and the chicken and wild rice were great! The staff are friendly and service was really quick!

This is a great spot to have lunch and grab some delicious Greek pastries to go. My husband and I stopped in on a Saturday afternoon and was greeted by the owners and their son. They are warm and welcoming, willing to explain any of the items on the menu. I enjoyed a delicious chicken noodle soup that hit the spot, while my husband enjoyed the freshly made lobster mac & cheese and a seafood salad sandwich. While there, we also tried the strawberry banana bread, also freshly made, which was moist and tasty. We finished off our afternoon out with a slice of their tiramisu cake and tea/coffee. The cake is to die for, and we plan on ordering this cake from them in the future for special events. We couldn't leave without bringing some items home to enjoy and share with family. We left with several finikia cookies, baklava, a chocolate cupcake with peanut butter vanilla frosting and ofcourse, a slice of the tiramisu cake! It was all delicious and enjoyed by our family as well. We look forward to going back to Despina's again to try more of their daily specials and freshly baked pastries/cookies.

Spotless and clean, the staff was bending over backwards to accommodate our dietary needs. We've eaten here twice now when we travel down to RI and love it more each time. Of course, we don't like it just because it's clean and comfy, the food is great! I had the spanakopita last time and it was the envy of the rest of my family. I hope they stick around for a long time!

Really good cafe just kind of off the beaten path. Really enjoyed the couscous salad. Worth popping in! Their bakery items look amazing (though admittedly my waist line hemmed me away from ordering - lol)
