This place is beautiful and within walking distance to many attractions. The breakfast(s) were gourmet and delicious! We had great fun talking with other guests along with the innkeepers at the morning table . As innkeepers, Nick and Brian were the most hospitable people we have met in a long time. They provided lots of little extra touches to make our stay enjoyable. The way Nick and Brian laugh is worth the trip in itself! Cant wait to return! S & S Wild, Oswego, NY

We decided on a last minute trip to Newport for the weekend to recharge the batteries and couldn't have been happier with our stay at the Architects Inn. Entering the home makes you feel like you are stepping back in time, but with all the modern comforts and amenities you need. Our suite was wonderfully sized, the bed was amazingly comfortable, and the clawfoot tub in the bathroom felt like such a luxurious treat to soak in. The gas fireplace in the bedroom kept us toasty warm (it heats up the room fast- I was really impressed!) and the smart TV gave us access to entertainment when we needed it. Nick and Brian are wonderful hosts, it's obvious they care very much about their home and are passionate about preserving the historical features that make this building so gorgeous and unique. Removing shoes at the door is a requirement, with a basket of slippers by the sitting chair to make this transition more comfortable for you. The gorgeous floors and rugs throughout the house make the no shoes rule seem like a no brainer. Nick was fantastic about giving us all the information we needed as we arrived, made easy conversation with us as we settled in as well as during both breakfasts. Anyone who isn't sure about what to do during their visit to Newport need not fear, Nick has great tips for everything on your agenda, and this kind of one on one personal service and knowledge isn't something you're going to get at a hotel chain. Brian's breakfasts and treats were amazing, we enjoyed every morsel. We never felt rushed, and they were very accommodating about what time breakfast worked for our needs. I'm reading other comments that find the "bible" that the owners provide in each room to be a bit off putting, however I found it to be an incredibly helpful, and humorous read. Alot of the stuff in there is what so many people might be unaware or uncertain of, but maybe don't even know to ask, and it's written in a way that let's you see the witty personality of owners who aren't interested in being delicate about their passion for keeping their business, their *home*, exactly the way they believe it needs to be to be the best it can be.

Staying in the Architects Inn was the icing on the cake to our Newport trip. The Inn was incredibly charming- every room was tastefully filled with antiques and trinkets. I was especially impressed with up-keeping and cleanliness of the Inn. Our room was beautiful. The bed was super comfy with luxe beddings. Like all the common areas, our room was also filled with interesting antiques with beautiful wall papers. Brian and Nick (the owners) were soo helpful with our itinerary. They basically helped us planned our whole stay in Newport. Definitely ask the guys what's happening in Newport during your stay. We would've missed some awesome spots that average tourists wouldn't know about. The "bible" which my fellow reviewers call it was, in my opinion, very helpful! Why wouldn't you want to know a little history about the mansion you're staying in or where are some of the must sees? Some extra perks are free parking and free wifi! Parking is not the easiest in Newport so to find an Inn that offers parking is definitely a bonus! We had a great stay and will definitely come back in the near future.

We stopped in here on a Friday night after a long drive from Washington, DC. It was a great place to rest and relax. Our room was very spacious and serene. We made reservations through an online booking sites, so breakfast was not included, unfortunately; however, there were some great cookies and muffins available in the dining room, as well as coffee and tea that made waking up pleasant. It's located about a 5-10 minute walk from the central area of restaurants and bars, so going back and forth between both was easy. We're happy to have been able to stay there.

Architect's Inn is in a lovely neighborhood very close to downtown Newport. An ideal location. An interesting breakfast is served in the morning. The coffee is good. Those are the positives. When you walk in, you will be asked to remove your shoes. You will be asked to do many other things during your stay. These rules are listed in what the establishment calls "The Bible" that you are shown upon check-in. "The Bible" contains several unique and interesting tips and nice-to-knows about visiting Newport, but first and foremost, it is a guide to your expected behavior during your stay. If you deviate from this expected behavior, your hosts will turn from nice to not nice in very short order. I stayed in a room that was described as a "cottage suite". It was hardly a suite, and it was certainly not a cottage. It was a rather small room in the attic with odd wicker chairs, and one king bed. In some places, such as the bathroom, a grown person cannot stand up straight. The TV/VCR was tiny and probably from the early 1990s. My room was never cleaned during my stay. When I arrived, and I was walked to my room, there were 4-5 grown men walking around the house freely wearing nothing but their underwear. Some of these men were laying on a bare mattress on the floor. I thought I had accidentally booked a hostel. I was made very uncomfortable by this set-up. The entire house seems like it hasn't changed in 100 years. For me, it recalled Miss Havisham's house in Great Expectations. I would say that you could very much enjoy your stay at Architect's Inn as long as you follow all of the many rules, and do not ruffle the owner's feathers by asking for courtesy or more service. If you are concerned with hospitality, comfort, ambiance, or having a relaxing vacation, do not stay here. There are more rules in this establishment than there are at a 19th century schoolhouse. And it looks like one, too.

I have stayed at quite a few B&Bs throughout the U.S., and I have to say, none have left me as unimpressed as this one. My main complaint is the many house rules. It begins with being asked to remove your shoes in the foyer and continues to the required sign-up for the next morning's breakfast (if you miss your time slot, too bad, food cannot be reheated). The good thing is, each room comes with "the Bible," a book that lists what is required of the guests. I don't know about others, but when I'm on vacation, the fewer rules and stringent schedules that must be adhered to, the better. It may not have been so bad if my overall experience was a pleasant one, but the whole time I was there, our room was never cleaned (no new towels, for example) and I found the accommodations a little tired and shabby in appearance.

This is one of my regular places. I stay here every time I come into town for business or pleasure. I like the charm of the house and the owners are amazing people with hearts of gold. The rooms have modern amenities but definitely feel like a classic inn where you are just in a great old home with history. This time around I finally did the Murder Mystery Weekend which was a blast. We have never done something like this but they raised the bar high for sure. It was an all around adventure. I didn't solve the crime or anything but the food was delicious and we had so many laughs to tell our friends about. I posted on Facebook and all my friends are so jealous. We stayed in the LaFarge Room which is a second floor room with lots of light. I kind of wish it were darker though so I will switch back to my normal room next time I stay.

We stayed 7/29/15, for a spontaneous somewhat quiet midweek day at the Architect's Inn, as weekends in Newport often need to be booked well in advance. Nick and Brian are such great hosts!! They serving yummy homemade breakfast and both take plenty of time to talk about your stay, giving you useful tips and recommendations of where to go and dine to fill your day(s) of lesser-known places that sometimes only the locals know about. I have owned an old property and like older buildings, it takes a lot of work to get to the condition that Nick and Brian have brought it to be. Architect's Inn is a lovely historic home that needs constant attention to maintain, yet still easily feel like you are at home and stepping back into another era right as you walk through the doors.

A luxurious getaway in my own state. A beautiful place that harkens back to an earlier time the Vanderbilts and the Astors held court. Ideally located near town, yet very close to the beach, it is the best of both worlds. Each room is beautifully furnished and chock full of antiques. How nice is it to just lay on the couch of this former mansion and read a book?! My bedroom was quite large, and quite comfortable. The proprietors were both friendly and helpful in planning where to go. Definitely A+ service. I definitely plan on treating myself to this place again.

My girlfriend and I came here for a weekend getaway and can't say enough good things about this place; the building is beautifully maintained and a short walk from just about everything in Newport. Service was stellar, and the breakfast the next morning was fantastic. We weren't able to meet Nick, but Brian was a fantastic host, and made us feel truly welcome. If you're looking for a stellar bed and breakfast in Newport, this is it!

I would think, think and think a whole lot more before choosing this accomadation called Architect's Inn as our room in the basement...rather dungeon was depressing and deranged. There were old pictures all over the room of old men from mayber the 20's perhaps. I would describe Architect's Inn as SInister like place and our room as A Sinister atmosphere. I would also describe the owners of the Architect's Inn as rude, degrading, angry, toxic and unhelpful. I would never recommend this deep, dark and dirty place. The owner who remains a mystery never showed his face to us. He had the audacity to throw all of our belongings onto the driveway of the Architect's dumpy driveway while we were out trying to enjoy a beautiful dinner in Newport that evening. Apparently he was happy with us politely asking about the room being in the basement opposed to being in the main part of the inn? So that is when he threatened to call police on us? And took all of our belongings and luggage and dumped them on the driveway. He then told us we had negative energy? I guess I'm still wondering why his energy is not negative? Long and the short of it is don't waste time even calling the place. It's a sick joke and there are really wonderful, charming and lovely places to stay all over. Further more really lovely other people who own Inns and properties that deserve the business. Emma from Boston, MA.

Wife and I stayed here for three nights in July. The house and its contents are amazing - the structure has been completely refurbished and updated, and it's beautiful. Breakfast was fairly formal, and delicious. Our room was more like a suite, with a separate sitting room, hallway, very large bedroom with fireplace, and large bath. Everything was clean clean clean! My only issue was that the proprietors are fond of leaving sticky notes everywhere - take off your shoes, close the door, keep this closed, etc. I realize they're finicky about the house, but there has to be a nice, classier way of communicating these things to guests that matches the house. That's a very picky comment, but it bugged me just enough to drop a star, and probably not justifiably. If you want a very intimate, personal B&B experience, book here. Plus, they have free, FAST wifi!
