You can get a decent philly cheese steak here for a reasonable price. There were 4 of us and the food was great and the service here was very good. Their soups are very good and I will definitely come back here if we every come back this way

This place is alright the food is pretty good. Pretty standard. The food came out slow. It made me feel I was at a 1950s diner with 2 people working behind the counter, one being the waitress. If I could give this place 1.5 stars I would.

Wonderful spot for lunch. I randomly stumbled upon this place on my visit to RI and I came here for lunch both of the days I was here. The staff was extremely friendly and nice. They advised us on attractions to see and cool spots in the area worth checking out. The food was just fantastic. The Philly cheesesteak was better than what you find at Philly itself and much better than anything I've ever had in NY (which is where I'm from). The corn and crab clam chowder is perfect and I'm so glad it's still on the menu because the staff informed me that they almost removed it from the menu once. Definitely a place I would visit again if I visit Rhode Island. Can't stress how amazing and helpful the staff was.

This place is charming. It is right next to the Tennis Hall of Fame, and the staff is OVER THE TOP nice. Don't read the negative reviews from over a year ago - - this place is relaxing and good! We need more YELPERS to rate this little jewel! I had a great breakfast, I always do, and I have been coming here for more than 10 years. And for you shopanistas out there . . . OMG, some GREAT stores are nearby! It's CASH ONLY . . . so be prepared. But I had Scrambled Eggs, Bacon, Potatoes, Raisin Toast, and 4 cups of coffee and got out of there for less than $9 +tip. AWESOME!

Always have at least one breakfast at Annie's when in Newport. This is a must to stop, especially if you had to much fun the night before. Kinda like truckstop food.Plain and simple.Service very effcient and friendly.Parking can be a problem, but heah, your in Newport in July.Bring cash, they do not except credit cards. ATM on sight though.

It's definately a perfect resterant! I don't know why it gets such a low score of rating~ We ordered a clam chowder, the lobster bisque ball, the taste is good, and it was a really big ball~ The twin cull lobester is only $24.95, with two huge lobster~ Such a substantial and economic choice~ Beside, the home made ice tea is free to refill~

Popped into Annie's for breakfast and sidled up to the bar. Most of the booths were filled with happy, chatty folks- I always assess other diners' reactions to their food when I go somewhere new. A very pleasant server poured me a delicious cup of coffee- pleased to discover the staff grinds beans just before brewing each pot. Coffee is DownEast. Now I love to chat with my servers and find out what they like to eat off the clock. So when he recommended the house made corned beef hash, I was torn. I'm not a huge fan of corned beef, but what's a girl to do with no biscuits or grits on the menu? Excellent choice! I had the corned beef hash topped with over-easy eggs, a side of home fries, and toast. Orange juice fresh squeezed, which matters to me, but a bit over priced at 2.75 a glass. And I think I'd prefer linen napkins if my juice is in a wine glass. My only knock is that I was confused by disparity between the charming staff in their tux tops and the horrible decor. It really needs a facelift. However, it was very clean, and that matters to me more. I'll definitely eat there again.

I can not leave a complete review for Annie's at this time. I came with my S/O to get some breakfast. We were approached by a server for drink orders pretty quickly and I got the fresh squeezed OJ for 2.75. It was a small wine glass sized serving but tasty. After that we sat with our menus open for five minutes, then menus closed for more than ten minutes trying to catch the eye of a server. We were never acknowledged again so we left some cash and left for greener pastures. I have probably not walked out on a restaurant in a couple of years. I am sure if I would have had the chance to taste your lobster bisque Annie's you would have earned more stars, but instead I am only left with the taste of a disappointing experience. UPDATE: Shortly after I left this review one of the restaurant owners messaged me and sincerely apologized and offered me a free meal. I think that's a pretty quick and positive response.

We stopped here for lunch during a short trip to Newport. We were just walking by and stopped in. The feel is that of a diner and most folks were having breakfast for lunch. My wife and I both had the fish and chips, which were quite good. The chowder was also pretty good. The service was fine. You should be aware that they are cash only.

Friendly service, lively atmosphere, and decent comfort food, considering Newport isn't famous for breakfast. It's a solid go-to.

Worst table I've ever experienced in a restaurant. After a short wait was seated in a booth in the bowels of the restaurant. 2' from the servers window, bus station, kitchen door and rest room partially blocked by an ATM. Hot, noisy and cramped. Food was average, prices good. Our water was polite but very short on service. The place has potential but in desperate need of a good manager

Annie's is still one of the best deals on Bellevue Avenue for an affordable lunch. They are located at the corner of Memorial Ave. and Bellevue (near Talbots) and parking can be t r i c k y but worth a drive around the block a few times, if need be. There is a parking lot directly across the street at the Newport Creamery but there is a fee during the summer months. A sweet little vintage dinette-style restaurant offering good food at reasonable prices. They are known for their delicious fresh squeezed orange juice at breakfast and "spiked" lobster bisque for lunch/dinner but they also have a nice selection of meatless sandwiches. BYOB and they do not accept debit/credit cards but there is an ATM at the back of the restaurant for a fee.

The food was great I got the eggs Benedict with smoked salmon buttttt the service was wretched. Go for the food not for the ambiance.

My husband and I visited Annie's for lunch on June 9th while in town for a tournament at the Tennis Hall of Fame. The restaurant is super convenient to the Hall of Fame, but it was just an eh experience. The restaurant was entirely empty when we walked in, though two other tables filled during our time there, and when we walked in, the waitresses seemed bothered and one simply pointed at a booth and said "Sit there." The waitress who served us was pleasant, though. The restaurant could benefit so very much by a really good scrubbing. It just didn't seem to be a clean place at all. The waitresses were wearing these ridiculous white tuxedo shirts with black aprons on top and all of the aprons were dirty. The food was just alright. I got the chicken quesadilla special, which was okay and came with a side-salad. I was annoyed that I requested no mushrooms and received my food with three huge mushrooms on top. My husband got the fish and chips sandwich, which was also okay - it was one piece of cod a bit too big to fit in the hot dog roll style bread. Neither dish looked particularly good, but they were edible and fine. I don't know that if we were to visit Newport again we would entertain the idea of eating at Annie's.

Surprisingly I had a hard time finding a breakfast/brunch place to go to, but this restaurant popped up when I filtered for Breakfast/Brunch. It's in a lovely part of time and near all the tourist attractions. I ordered an omelette with sausage and peppers. It was a generous portion and the taste was pretty good. The food was not bad, but the service was excellent. The waitress was super friendly and attentive. Also, this is a cash only place with an ATM in the back. Too bad you can't rack up any points on your credit card here.

great lunch place for two...a bit cramped but that's what's appealing...the lobster bisque was really good...good overall selection...CASH ONLY

Annie's is a super casual diner in an upscale part of Rhode Island, next to the International Tennis Hall of Fame. And you don't need to own one of the nearby Vanderbuilt mansions to eat here. Prices are insanely affordable and the quality, well, not great but good enough for the most part. The clam chowder was delicious and easily the best part of the meal. But the other items miserably failed, including the dry meat loaf and equally dry mashed potatoes. On the plus side, portions are generous and items are not overly greasy.

Don't go here if you are a vegetarian...i.e. you don't use all your taste buds. One more open seat for me and my friends. -The place is cash only, but they have an ATM at the back. -The breakfasts are the best...lunch is okay. The eggs Benedict is great! Perfectly poached eggs. The orange juice and coffee is always on make. -the bread basket is great for sopping up the remaining hollandaise. -There is a wait...rightly so, alot of locals know to go here. The best--The wait staff...very friendly and attentive.

My husband and I ate breakfast here one morning. I will start off by saying that the prices are very reasonable. I truly love getting brunch on a weekend morning, and this restaurant was just mediocre at best. It's very small inside and we sat up at the counter. The waiter was very friendly and offered us freshly squeezed orange juice. I actually don't usually drink OJ but, for some reason, I did that morning - and I was glad I did because it was delicious! Onto my meal...I ordered eggs - lightly scrambled, with bacon and potatoes - well done. Well, I got eggs - scrambled hard - way over done, and not so cooked potatoes - that obviously come from a frozen package. To be honest, I would have been happier eating my own eggs at home with some tator tots. My husband ordered scrambled eggs and got the same deal. His coffee and toast were nothing special. Our bill was $20, for food that was simply okay. I'm glad I tried it, but I don't need to return and would rather try a new place. If you are looking for a quick breakfast that is reasonably priced -nothing fancy, but okay food, Annie's is it. However, I would recommend seeking another place in Newport.

Had one of the best breakfasts I have ever had. I don't understand these reviews whatsoever. We got lobster eggs benedict, loaded with lobster meat. Possibly the best eggs benedict I've eaten anywhere. The corned beef hash was also insanely good. Both my brother and I are from NYC and walked into this place randomly. After eating the food, we came back the next two days for breakfast with our native RI friends. Our friends from RI still frequent this place ever since we went there with them. Absolutely delicious breakfast.

Ehh... breakfast was decent enough but nothing special. The orange juice is $2.50 for a TINY cup and, of course, no free refills. I felt a little ripped off. The waitress was alright but not very on the ball. I don't really see much reason to give this place another shot.

Food was ok, our waitress was the only one in newport we cam across that wasn't friendly. The corner cafe is better and has better service

I've tried this place twice for breakfast and both times been disappointed. Annie's is your typical greasy spoon, but a bit pricey, and those extra $$ aren't worth it. They seat you and immediately ask if you'd like a glass of orange juice--a nice gesture, until you get the bill and realize that they've charged you $2.50 for each refill. They promise a nice basket of bread and coffee cake with each order, but don't always bring it. It's hard to get a waitress' attention, and when you do manage to call one over, they still tend to get caught up in other duties and forget to bring what you've asked for. The worst part, though, is that both times I've been there and ordered coffee, I'm convinced they served us decaf. They gave our table a whole carafe of coffee, but after about four cups, I was still not feeling it. The food isn't bad, but for all the other downsides, I'm not sure why going here is worth it.

The food was disappointing - caprese salad was made with the wrong type of mozzarella cheese (the type that is meant for sandwiches) and winter-type tomatoes - hard to cut, more white than red, and tasteless. There must have been a balsamic vinegar shortage because there was only the slightest drizzle on the salad. The chicken Parmesan sandwich was tough and rubbery. It took a long time to get our food even though there were only three other people in the restaurant and they had already been served.

we ate here over the weekend and were pleasantly surprised. We walked in around 2pm on a Sunday and sat ourselves. Our server was very nice and got us drinks right away. The glasses are pretty small, but we were not charged for refills so we didn't mind. I ordered a turkey sandwich on wheat bread (came standard with lettuce, mayo & mustard) and I got chips as well. My boyfriend got two hot dogs and replaced his side of chips with fries instead. My turkey sandwich was great - the turkey was fresh and it was a great size. my boyfriend said the hot dogs tasted a little different, but not bad and he almost finished both of them... he did say that the fries were amazing. I tried them and agree - very good. The only downsides about this place are: 1. it is small, on a Saturday morning there could definitely be a wait. 2. they only take cash or check.. so be prepared.

I would not eat here again. The vegetarian "sandwich" consisted of four pieces of overly salty, greasy toast, served next to a pile of mushy, frozen-from-a-bag veges that were coated with a tasteless, greasy cheese. It was inedible. My mother had a strange version of a Monte-cristo sandwich, without the powdered sugar or jelly, but with plenty of grease. How these dishes could cos $22, being served with boring potato chips, is beyond me.

Do not eat here! DIRTY! Perhaps off-season (mid-October) is an unusually bad time for Annie's. I wanted so badly to like this place but it was just not good, especially for vegetarian diners or anyone who prefers not to get diarrhea. The place is small and basically like a worn out little greasy spoon. I came in and sat at a booth, ordered the much anticipated chili and vegetarian cheese & veggie sandwich, and a diet coke. Two high school kids (one in the kitchen, one out front) seemed to be running the whole place, and they were working hard and doing alright. The chili, however, was bland and not heated to a hot enough temperature for my tastes. I've never run into "sorta warm" chili before. The "sandwich" was just hideous. It was 4 triangles of cheap toast laid out with warm random veggies (clearly straight from the cheap freezer bag mix) and a ton of oozy low quality cheese-stuff on top. This is the kind of horrible crap people hand vegetarians when they can't figure out what to feed us! I could hardly eat it, it was so laden in oily nastiness. This is not the worst part, although I dearly wish that it was. After finishing and paying, I walked back to check out the restroom. In order to get there I had to walk through a swarming cloud of tiny flies that lived at the back of the dining area. They clearly lived and dined in the busing tubs, kept on a low shelf to my left. IT GETS WORSE. These fly infested tubs were right below the area where the kitchen sets the food out for the waiter to run to the tables! The food sits there in that fly swarm! I felt sick to I quickly walked into the restroom. I felt even worse when I realized that the soap dispenser was full because it did not dispense soap... Upon asking I was informed that the staff and kitchen use the same restroom that I was in. A few hours later, as predicted, I got the runs. I rarely flame a restaurant - check out my other profiles for proof - but you really need to avoid Annie's. If you're looking for vegetarian food I suggest Panini Grill on 186 Thames, or go exploring the area around Empire Coffee (22 Broadway), which is worth exploring anyway.

Had breakfast there today. Who puts eggs benedict on their menu and then makes it with FRIED EGGS? When I asked, the owner said it is faster and when it's busy, they fry the eggs! Pathetic explanation in my book. Also, there were two occupied tables when we sat down. Is that busy? Either make it right or take it off the menu. Better yet, call it FRIED EGGS BENEDICT....AT LEAST THE CUSTOMER WILL BE FOREWARNED. We got the same story about the cook speaking/understanding only Spanish.

    (2)
  • N C.

Terrific eggs benedict with lobster, fabulous lobster roll salad, ibid spinach salad... but alas, terrible service; upon our request for an explanation (we had to beg for coffee and water refills; my fish and chips arrived in the form of a cod sandwich; ...) the waitress apologized that it was only her third day, and that the cooks only spoke spanish, whereas she only spoke english... definitely very affordable however.

We visited Annie's for brunch on a Sunday in November. It was extremely disappointing: the food was mediocre and expensive for what it was and the place not very clean. Salmon benedict was super-salty, the fries in my son's fish and chips were anaemic, and the stack of pancakes truly disgusting, redolent of fake vanilla. Brunch for three cost $58 and I felt it was a total waste of money. We wanted so much to enjoy the meal that we persuaded ourselves it was ok and did not complain (feel silly about that now, usually I don't mind complaining). It was only after we had finished that my husband and I admitted to each other we thought it was awful. On the plus side, the service was good and friendly. If you must go there, I suggest you have eggs and toast.

Stopped here with 3 adults and 2 children for brunch on a very busy Sunday morning in July. Although the place was packed, they were great quickly getting a table cleared for us. The restaurant was well-staffed and the service was excellent and very attentive. The menu is perfect for someone looking for a hearty breakfast or lunch. All three adults in our party had the Farmer's omelette, which was full of fresh veggies...great. The children had a waffle, which was excellent. All of the other dishes we saw delivered to other tables looked really good as well. Prices were extremely reasonable, especially for downtown Newport. We will definitely go back.

Solid little diner, reasonable prices, nice staff, big omelets, meh home fries, dericious corned beef hash, pretty good coffee. Don't know what all the negativity was about, great place for breakfast!

Some of my girlfriends and I decided to stop by Annie's for breakfast one Sunday morning. When we first walked in, we noticed that the place was rather small and sort of dingy looking. Nonetheless, we decided to stay because we heard it had some good breakfast options. We were told that the restaurant could seat all seven of us in a about fifteen minutes. Twenty minutes later, after waiting outside because there is no waiting area, we were seated at two booths at opposite ends of the restaurant. Both tables' servers were cold and almost impolite towards both groups. Another problem we ran into was when we received our food-I had asked for an egg white omelette but instead was served a regular omelette. I sent it back only to have the second one served with another cheese topping that was not in my original order. Starving and wishing to get out of the place, I just ate it. Although our table had asked for separate checks, we received one total. When we finally did receive three separates, I did not get a discount on my screwed up order. Although the food was very good, the service was subpar and I did not enjoy the overall experience. My friends and I will not go back again.
