Jumi Garden Buffet offers rows upon rows of many buffet items. Examples of dishes include various Chinese offerings like chicken and broccoli and General Gao's chicken, lo mein and wonton and egg drop soups, and shu mai dumplings. There are also many other items. Just a few examples are macaroni and cheese, salads, cooked clams and mussels, calamari, roast pork, meatballs, and spinach pie. There is a sushi station with a number of choices as well as a hibachi station where they cook items you select. And then there is also a wide variety of fruits and cakes, puddings and other desserts as well as several flavors of ice cream. The price for all you can eat per person before tip was less than $10. My review of 4 stars is based on the high value you get here -- a lot of choice of generally decent food in a clean environment with attentive service for a very low price.

Just came for our first time. Everything was very good. It was very clean and staff is friendly. I've been to buffets before were there are so many choices it was too overwhelming but here there are just enough and lots of kid friendly foods. My daughter discovered her new favorite food, crab legs. So all in all it was a great place.

Went with my sister and niece last week and I was very impressed. Lunch was $8.95 plus $1.95 soda, free refills. The buffet had a lot more to offer than other buffets,a sushi bar and Mongolian grill too. I loved the roast pork it was so tender reminded me of Sunday dinners. They have a lot of kid friendly food too, pizza Mac and cheese mashed potatoes and nuggets were all really good according to my niece service was quick and clean plates were removed as soon as we were done yet didn't feel rushed. I don't know what the bad reviewer is talking about as we were there on a Wednesday afternoon around 2 and the food was fresh and constantly being refreshed and they had a man making the sushi fresh while you watched they even have bar stools to sit at right at the sushi bar!

I've been in Newport for 8 months and have been ordering delivery from Good Friends, another Chinese restaurant. When I came here it was extremely refreshing. The food was freshly made, the people and the area were clean, and there were plenty of options to choose from. Not to mention the price was very reasonable.

Very good quality buffet food. The restaurant is incredibly clean. The wait staff is attentive and pleasant. The waitress helped my husband pronounce the Chinese word in the back of his fortune cookie slip and it made his night.

Not real impressed but I wish I was because the staff are so friendly and polite. The variety of food was excellent but the flavor of everything was bland. At $14 (beverages are extra) a person, I'm sure you can get your money's worth but you won't go away feeling excited about anything you ate.

For a Chinese buffet, this place was great! Excellent selection of foods, sushi offerings were fresh and yummy. not just California or vegetable roll, but tuna, spicy tuna, etc. also had hibachi. Food was fresh, tasty and hot.

I came here during my trip from New York. My group was looking for some Chinese food and came accross this place from yelp. It got pretty good reviews and we decided to try it. I am glad to say that we were not disappointed. The environment was nice and clean. Not much people and the place was quiet. The staff were great. There were a wide range of food to choose from. The pork roast was excellent. There was a hibachi station and a small sushi station, still good though. The price was lower than expected. Lunch was around 9 for adults. It was an overall good experience in my buffet history. Would come back again if I was around this area.

Great place for a buffet meal. This place is clean and has lots of variety. The options are plentiful but they are the same as any other Chinese menu. The same entrees (green peeper beef, general Tso's, black pepper chicken, sweet 'n sour chicken, baked crab meat 'n cheese, wontons, eggs rolls, etc. ) and same desserts ( bananas 'n red sauce, cappuccino mini cakes, jello, lychee). The roasted pork is super tender and flavorful. The best part about this place is that the hibachi is included. There is a small caveat. They put better cuts of beef for dinner than for lunch - with the increased price. The sushi is also good for a buffet place with some decent options for "real" sushi and not just California rolls.

Just an average Chinese buffet with many options. Wasn't overly impressed. Place is clean and the staff is nice.

I went to buffet today at 2:00. There were maybe a dozen people eating. The food looked like it had been sitting. Nearly empty chafing dishes. Dried sauces along the edges. Didn't look like the pretty murals in the windows. That's for sure! Should have walked right out, but didn't. Sushi display was a mess. Hibachi guy wasn't there. I cautiously made a plate and sat down. Sushi was warm, so I flicked it off my plate. Everything else was cold. I know hot food has to be kept above 140 degrees. Again, should have walked out, but didn't. I got the waiter to microwave my plate until "smoking" and I ate it. Food was bland, and chicken was spongy, most likely processed. The boneless spare ribs and the teriyaki chicken were dry and hard. Gross! I ate one plate of food, and one glass of soda. $12 for lunch. I walked briskly to my truck and crossed myself, and started for home. I prayed that I might be spared the "Miralax Effect." So far, so good. Hopefully the microwaves killed all the little nasties and I won't spend the night in the water closet. My opinion was that the lunch rush was over, and the staff knocked off until dinner. Steam table chafing dishes nearly empty, and food cold. None of them were refilled while I was there. Sushi was well picked over, and warm. There was no one there to make more. The Hibachi guy was also out to lunch. 2:00, and already done cooking! Room temperature Food could have easily put me in the hospital. I might have dodged the bullet this time. I won't risk it again!

I stopped into Yumi by chance on a ride out to Portsmouth with a couple of friends. We were all pretty hungry and a Chinese buffet is nearly impossible for us to pass up. On the upside, the staff are incredibly friendly and the place is spotless clean, and has a vast variety of offerings. I really wish I could give them at least one more star because of those reasons - but the taste just wasn't there. I tried multiple dishes but no sushi or habachi grill. The chicken skewers were very good but that was about the only thing I tried that was remotely satisfying. I did take notice that most of the reviews prior to mine are stellar - which I cannot explain beyond wondering if some of those folks need to go over the bridge every now and again. The odds of my going back for a second chance here are slim to nil since there are so many more satisfying options on the mainland. There is plenty for ownership to work with to make this a great spot for Aquidneck islanders as I stated above. Perhaps they may want to consider a new chef or two, or some new recipes. Sadly my experience was not so yumi.

If you are looking for a great Chinese buffet where they make everything fresh with the freshest ingredients then this is not your place. If you are looking for a place where everything is bought pre made and just heated up then you found your place. If you really want to clean out your bowels defiantly come here. Excuse me while I go sit on the thrown.

Went with my teenage son for dinner. Place was pretty full. The food was pretty decent. I would certainly go again. The sushi was freshly made right in front of me. I was very pleased!

OMG.........tonight was my first visit to the long anticipated opening of Yumi Garden. Everything was Puurrffeecctt! From the delicious selections of food to the service by the very attentive and pleasant staff. In addition to the usual Chinese buffet items, Yumi brought out Whole Fresh Roasted Pork. They had a satisfying Raw bar consisting of raw oysters , clams, and cooked crab legs, shrimp, and mussels. The Sushi bar was amazing ! Fresh Fresh Fresh and with quite a variety........being made right before your eyes, Not being carted in from being made earlier in the day. I also really really really enjoyed the Hibachi Bar, which actually had a nice array of foods.....thin sliced Rib Eye steak, Scallops, Shrimp, Shaved steak, vegetables , rice, raw eggs and they too created a Sensation right before your eyes......Delicious I tell you . The Teriyaki Sauce was awesome. Who doesn't like to end their meal with some sweetness.???? How about Fried Bananas, home-made banana pudding, home-made egg custard cups, or home-made Flan.........not to mention 8 varieties of ice cream! And a BONUS to all of this is at this time it is a BYOB ! Well worth the inexpensive cost they charge. I would highly recommend this restaurant to All. The only thing lacking is some Ethnic music to provide a calming atmosphere to the hussle and bustle of everyone trafficking back and forth to the buffet tables. KUDOS YUMI ! Shay Evans, Newport, RI

Was pleasantly surprised by the number of food choices and better yet - the food QUALITY was fantastic. There were a lot of seafood- crabs, craw fish, salmon, shrimp, oysters etc. numerous types of sushi and many well prepared, very tasty hot dishes. Some of the food were American style, like roast beef & ribs, even pizza for the kids. Plenty of vegetarian options and lots of fruit and salads. The desserts were delicious and a great selection of ice cream. The food was great, place was clean. Only a 4 star cause I think $14 is too expensive.

Went in at 2:24pm and the place was mostly empty. I went to get some food and I could tell the food had been sitting out for a long time. I filled my plate up and got to eating it but almost everything on the plate was cold. It was very disappointing that all their food is cold and old at ~2pm.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
