My experience was that they did nothing wrong. I had a falafel wrap and the veggies were fresh, crispy and flavorful; they complimented the falafel well. The portion size was sizable and I appreciated that to, eating the first meal of my day at 2pm. I loved that they put pickles in the wrap as it gave it an extra zesty crunch that made the wrap better than a typical falafel + cucumber and tomatoes. Nothing more to say than a good place to grab a quick lunch; don't expect ambiance and classiness, but it does what ti does well- a quick filling meal

Was in the area for work and was recommended I stop by this joint for lunch. It is a small storefront in a little plaza with limited seated and a crowd out the door! I knew from this that it must be a town favorite. I ordered the Mediterranean Platter which came with falafel, tabbouleh and hummus (all of the best!). While I waited in line for quite a while, the service was extremely fast once it was my turn. Just to note - everyone eats first and pays after! Don't be like me and wait at the counter holding your food to pay (whoops). Good spot for a lunch bite - just don't use the facilities.

There's a place in Stamford, CT called 'Falafel'. For late night falafel wraps, these were the best...ever. Until they stopped being open, for reasons I'm not sure of. My brothers and I came here to get a snack before we were to eat dinner with out friends, upon their arrival. We shared two wraps between the three of us....... These chicken and chicken pesto wraps, with falafel, were absolutely amazing. The flavors of the hummus, the tabouli, and the other sauces inside, with the warm crunch falafel and delicious chicken, made them amongst the best ever. They were better than my Stamford spot. The ambiance in the place is in a sense, sleazy, and really needs a facelift. But looking past this, the food was tremendous. The food bar where they prepare your food was open, so you could watch them make it. Be prepared to feel like you are in a fast food joint in a dirty part of town, but be amazed at what they put in front of you. A must-have if you like falafel wraps!

Excellent Lamb wrap. All the ingredients were super fresh, the service was fast and efficient. I sometimes drive from Fall River to Middletown just to get lunch there.

Best Mediterranean food on the island I honestly am only giving them four stars based on personal experience. Every time I go there the person at the cash register doesn't know how to properly use it. I was once charged $75.00. I only use cash when I go now haha. Though falafel is my favorite really great people too.

Love this place!! It's family run, and they are all so nice and welcoming! It was my first lunch upon arriving here in RI from CA and it has been my go to place ever since!! Healthy, fresh and delicious! Spicy chicken shawarma, with falafel for the win!!!

If you want to experience authentic Greek/Mediterranean flavors, go for it. It's a perfect grab and go spot for the freshest and tastiest when you are craving a chicken, beef, lamb, combo or if your a veggie then eggplant. I've tried pretty much everything on the menu minus the "American" items(cheesesteak and fries). Very reasonable prices. $8 for a wrap that is almost too much for 1 person. Sometimes there is a line, but that isn't necessarily a bad thing. I don't mind being a few people deep in line to narrow down my selection while I hear the grill sizzle. The only thing that would be better is a fire-grilled gyro rotisserie. Lacking the rotisserie is why I usually choose chicken, beef, lamb or eggplant. Great Dolma and handmade sauces. Great home made baklava and other options if you want a sweet finish. One cautionary item: The hot option for pepper sauce is HOT. I usually go medium with a touch of the hot. Tip: If you become a regular, grab a punch card. I don't mind a free wrap after buying 8.

AMAZING!!! I go here at least once a week. It is one of the healthier options on the island. Always busy during lunch hours. Staff is great and extremely polite. Reward card is a plus if your a regular. I always get the gyro wrap or the steak and cheese wrap. Always Great, veggies fresh and a filling portion. Cant go wrong with anything from this place.

  • Stefan G.

The food is always very fresh. The wait times are slightly long, but you are getting fresh food cooked on the spot, so I would say that the wait is worth it. I seem to be in the minority with my opinion, but I feel like the food, while being very good, is also very heavy. Also, the parking lot is a nightmare.

A fast food joint that is worth giving 5 stars just for the food. Yelp got it right this time and well you gotta have patience in case of a weekend evening.

amazing Gyro wrap! I came here after my landlord recommended the place. I opted for the gyro kabob with fries. It was delicious, fresh and tasty. It was exactly what I wanted. This all plus and iced yea cost $10, not bad for the size. Place is clean and staff is friendly. They even gave me dessert to taste which was so delicious.

Yelp has this right. Outstanding food. Hummus, falafel, meatballs, salad with home made dressing - all excellent. Every future trip to Newport will include a stop here!

  • Trista R.

I'm currently addicted to this place. More specifically, their falafels and dill sauce! I always get the Slovaki wrap with lamb and it never disappoints! Only once have I seen more than one gentleman working, all the other times it's been the same guy working hard, quickly, and efficiently. Their hot sauce is actually really hot, so steer away if you're sensitive to spicy things. It does have a good flavor, though! My only complaint is the guy that helped out the one day was handling money and food with the same gloves on.

    (4)
  • Joe B.

You can't go wrong with any of the wraps. I highly recommend any variation of the grilled chicken falafel wrap. They serve hefty portions so be ready to gain a pound or two.

  • Andy M.

Love this spot. The shawerma wrap with falafel is really flavorful. The staff is friendly and I you eat in the restaurant you don't pay until too you leave. I would highly recommend this place

Hole in the wall Mediterranean! Really delicious falafel wraps and lamb platter. We stopped to eat before touring the breakers in Newport. 15 min away- excellent call!

  • Alexa H.

I love falafel pockets and this place is the best I've had. My husband and I were on our way out of town and stopped here on a whim. It was the best decision we made! We sat in our cars in silence indulging in the absolute deliciousness. You may have to wait in line, but its worth the wait.

  • John S.

Only place to get middle eastern cuisine on the island. If you want shwarma this is it until you can get to a bigger city like providence.

  • Dwayne A.

I absolutely love this place. The food is off the chain, and they are pretty quick. Then menu is vast, but not overwhelming, with moderate prices. If you like Mediterranean, you should enjoy this place. As for authenticity, I can't speak for that. Just know, the food is tasty, and you will leave full.

The only place on Aquidneck Island that can satisfy a proper Mediterranean/Lebanese craving! International Pocket Cafe is spot on... the meats are cooked well, veggies are fresh, and the sauces are delicious! The menu here is huge... as it contains both Mediterranean and American options. I tend to stick to the Mediterranean side myself. The two guys who usually work here are great at what they do. Even when the place is packed - they keep the line moving without compromising your order. To get your taste buds moving, you will receive a piece of falafel freshly dipped in their tahini sauce as you step up to order. Then you start to put together your order - wraps salads subs - and pick your own additions. To top it off, there is another free treat at the register - bakliva! Perfect sweet ending to your meal here. My go to order here is the Chicken Shwarma wrap with falafel. I love being able to customize my order with all the veggies, cheese, and sauce variations. I admit, if you are unfamiliar with the style of food here, it may take you a visit or two to determine what you enjoy (I discovered I dislike the tabbouleh). The restaurant has a small dining area with a few tables, and is usually pretty busy during lunch. I often get my wrap to go. They are secured nicely in two pieces of foil and even reheat in the oven (350 for 5 minutes) wonderfully.

    (4)
  • Steve P.

Great take out, huge menu. Seats about 25 if you wanted to eat there. Everything made to order.

    (4)
  • Lee T.

We got the falafel and combo plate. Both were delicious. The staff cooked everything in front of us and we had our food in 5 minutes. We would go again.

    (4)
  • Jamel F.

This is my spot when I want something healthy, light but filling. They meet my expectations every visit. I usually get the chicken and falafel on wheat wrap with all the sauces but a Lil of the hot sauce. Always fresh ingredients and great service.

    (4)
  • Average J.

Don't be fooled by their location and storefront. This unassuming cafe packs powerful flavor in every bite. They usually offer free falafel bites during lunch as a "waiting in line" appetizer. Yes, there's typically a line, but that tells you it's worth the wait. Great for grab-n-go since they have limited seating. The guys behind the counter are great at explaining the menu items if you're not familiar with Mediterranean food. The baklava sampler is awesome. International meat turbo - good luck!

    (4)
  • Jon L.

This place is bomb!! Fresh ingredients, delicious taste, and healthy too. Had a salad with falafel and lamb and it was one of the best salads I've ever had. My girlfriend really enjoyed hers too. Friendly service and cool music too. Great portions and very fair prices. We will return and soon!!

    (5)
  • A Z.

So the food is decent. If you want a quick and big wrap sandwich then this is the place. You can fill it up with as many toppings as you want at no extra charge. However don't expect authentic shwarma at all. The meat is all precooked and in a tray kind of like a Subway.

    (4)
  • Ryan S.

Great food, great price... Just as long as long as the the kid in the backwards hat doesn't take FOREVER to make it/burn it.

  • Matt D.

A MUST! (capital letters were not an accident.) Delicious food, friendly service. You will feel like you are part of the family. Big menu with fast casual type ordering, so if that makes you nervous look at the menu before you get here. Just get here!

  • Nikki I.

The gyros are amazing here. I like them with all sauces because they are so fresh. The tzatziki sauce is delicious!!

    (5)
  • Michelle M.

This stop is always a good idea. The food is great and there is plenty of it. Everything is fresh and delicious. When I need a quick dinner I grab some combo plates to take home. They also have a great party planner. Call ahead to order and pick it up on your way for a sure crowd pleaser

    (5)
  • Matt B.

My favorite restaurant by far. I go here a few times a week when I can. Best gyros around. The only complaint I have is there is usually one person working, two at the most and it gets packed! Last time in I was short on time and had to leave since there was one woman placing an order for 5 people and one person working.

May 16, 2014 Welcome to the first installment of "Laura's Lunch," a new (and hopefully weekly) segment where I'll be visiting some of the best places to grab a quick, inexpensive meal in the Newport/Middletown area of Rhode Island. Eligibility Criteria: I have to be able to get to the office and back in 30 minutes and the entire meal has to be under $10. I've been working in Newport for over two months now and I could probably eat at the International Pocket Café daily. I absolutely love the food there. I've had the chicken shawarma wrap, the chicken slovaki wrap and the grilled chicken and falafel salad - all have been amazing. My co-workers have dubbed it, "That place you like." Since I can't stay away from there, I decided to make it my first restaurant for "Laura's Lunch." I pulled into the always busy parking lot and saw that the line of customers was just about at the door. I've often seen people waiting outside - that's how good the food is. Luckily for me, I called ahead and I figured that I wouldn't have to wait long. When I got inside, I had to wait longer than normal. They seemed to be a bit short handed on today's visit, but you could tell the staff was rushing to make sure that everyone was being taken care of. The guy in front of me was waiting on $30 worth of food for his co-workers and he told me about how much his stomach was growling because of all the awesome smells in the restaurant. On this visit, I was going to try a gyro (pronounced "year-oh") for the first time ever. I've always been scared to try lamb because ... it's lamb. It just sounds like it's going to be gross. However, if I'm going to dive head first into the world of Lebanese/Greek foods, I need to get acquainted with Lambchop. I grabbed a bottle of Coke, got cashed out and headed back to the office to chow down. I was both nervous and excited to get started. I actually got to watch them make my gyro because they do everything right in front of you like Subway. All of the ingredients are fresh and I've never had a problem with chewy meat because everything is cooked perfectly on a flat top grill. Once I bit into the gyro, I was wondering if I was even going to be able to taste the lamb because of all the different Mediterranean spices and sauces used. The deliciously chewy wrap was stuffed with feta cheese, cucumbers, tomatoes, lettuce and topped with yogurt sauce and I believe I tasted dill. There was probably more stuff in there but whatever the mixture, it was fabulous. I finally got to the meat. It was actually a lamb and beef blend, so the first flavor that hit me was beef. However, once I started chewing it, I could taste something different. It wasn't a bad taste, just ... different. I didn't love it, but I didn't hate it. I kept going. The thinly sliced lamb/beef combo was actually a great compliment to the sauces. There was something yummy about the way they tasted together. I can see why people go crazy for gyros. I'm sorry it took me so long to try one! Minutes from the office: Three. Cost of the meal with drink: $9.70. There you have it. A fantastic lunch at my favorite new place for under $10 and I was able to get back to work on time to eat it. I highly suggest the International Pocket Café as they serve all sorts of food in a very clean environment. The staff is always friendly (albeit really busy), the portions are large and you can always count on your meal being made with high quality ingredients. This place is a winner. Nice, fresh options. I trust their judgement as to how to make a great wrap. Rare option in this area. Check them out.

A great find worthy of a small detour for a great Mediterranean wrap or salad. No decor or ambience to speak of but prices and more importantly the food is excellent and fresh. Lunch lines are common as they're popular. The shawerma is excellent.

Went on Yelp on a whim to look for a place to stop for lunch on our weekend trip to Newport. Since my girlfriend & I love Mediterranean food, we decided we would take a chance and check this place out. We were not disappointed! The service was excellent. We were offered a sample of falafel as soon as we walked in. I ordered the International Meat Wrap in a pita and my girlfriend got the Chicken Souvlaki wrap in a pita. The woman making our wraps was very friendly and accommodating. All the food was fresh, flavorful and made on the premises. Everything is cooked right in front of you. If you like Mediterranean food, or ever wanted to try it, then you should go to the International Pocket Cafe.

This place never disappoints! The food is always good and they cook it to order. Fresh ingredients that are full of flavor. We make the point to come here every time we are in town from NYC. Service is great and portions are good. The prices match the portions perfectly. If you're looking for a meal that will leave you feeling full or leave you with the option of saving half for later, this is your spot!

  • Kayla G.

Best wrap ever in life get the international veggie or meditaran veggie wrap. They are so filling and good. Homemade hummus is to die for & baklava is amazing. The staff is so nice and you get free samples of falafel and baklava.

Delicious, cheap, and fast. I kind of felt like I was in Turkey again. Which is a great thing. Highly recommended!

Line was out the door when we arrived, very popular choice for lunch. Had the Grilled Gyro Kabob, marinated lamb & beef, with choice of vegetables & sauces in a pita. It was excellent! Tzatziki sauce was strong and very flavorful. Will def go again!!! I gave 4 stars because I only ordered one thing, so I can't say how the rest of the menu tastes. But as far as Gyros go, it was awesome.

  • Ricky Y.

This place is such a hidden gem in RI - seems like a hole in the wall dive type of place, but it is awesome. The Mediterranean food selection is great - felafel, hummus, tzatziki, tabbouleh, baklava, etc...and for those who have friends whose palates don't include Mediterranean, they offer 'American' options as well. And if you've never had felafel and you're not sure about it, you can always try a taste! I'll definitely come here again, it might just become a favorite lunch spot.

    (4)
  • Laura T.

This place is just awesome. The free samples are generous and the sauces and hummus are fantastic. One of the best shwarmas I have ever had!

    (5)
  • Kirsten S.

Absolutely love this place! The two guys working were so sweet and allowed us to try a sample of the falafel and baklava (both phenomenal!) while we decided on our order. I got the chicken souvlaki wrap and my husband got the chicken shawerma wrap. Both were fantastic! Pita chips and hummus were the perfect compliment. Definitely recommend this place for a quick and delicious meal!!!

    (5)
  • Lisa T.

Fabulous, fresh and such a good value! We had the souvlaki wrap, buffalo chicken wrap and Mediterranean platter with gyro meat. All were delicious and very filling for dinner. The buffalo chicken was very spicy as we like it and the souvlaki was great with our own choice of veggies and sauces. The platter included Greek salad, rice with lentils, meat and hummus with pita. The pita is different than we have had before - it is very thin and light.

  • Lacuna H.

Ok, I gotta call this place exactly what it is--a Subway sanwich type spot that serves Mediterranean food. If you are expecting fresh carved Gyro and fried to order falafel this is not the place to go. That being said the food is good for what it is, and the sauces, especially their hot sauce makes up for the pre fried falafel and pre- packaged frozen gyro meat. The baklava portions are small but they have a great selection of ones made from various nuts for those who may be allergic to walnuts.

  • Kristin M.

Absolutely great customer service. Went in for lunch and dinner and both shifts of workers were willing to explain the menu items and gave tastes of some of the food. I would highly recommend this place for any meal. The inside of the restaurant is a little small as well as the parking lot, but like others suggested, we parked in the Walgreens lot. Will go back to try more. The wraps were delicious, and the hummus is just absolutely divine! (Can't make it out of the shop without a little Baklava)

  • Daisy F.

Probably my favorite place to eat on the island. Don't be fooled by the quick speed, affordability, or location (away from Thames-land but with actual parking): this is top-notch, delicious, quality Mediterranean food. The wraps are flavorful and fillng, and don't forget to treat yourself to some baklava! They have casual seating, but this is the ultimate picnic food for the island's beautiful beaches and sanctuaries.

After driving by International Pocket Cafe for years and never stopping in, I was inspired by a coworker who swears by the place. I went in for dinner to go one evening and was the only customer in there. I was promptly greeted and given a piece of fresh falafel to enjoy while they began my wrap. The chicken kabob wrap that I ordered was made right in front of me and done very quickly. I took it home and was hooked instantly. I stop in often now, although they can get very busy at lunch time so I usually stop in for dinner.

  • K L.

Kind of hole in the wall but very good. Was looking for something quick and highly recommend. They do have eat it seating which was clean and good enough! Will go back.

    (4)
  • Matt F.

I love this place. The wraps are amazing. I usually go for the gyro and make sure to get falafel in it. I also make sure to get all the sauces (hot, really really hot, hummas, tzatziki, theres another one I get as well but can't confirm its name or flavor just that they are all good. The service is terrific, they let you sample falafel while they make your wrap, allow you to pay after you eat, and give you a sample of baklava when you finish. You'll walk away happy.

    (5)
  • David J.

My only complaint about this place is that so many other people know about it! There's always a crowd. Wonderful, fresh, delicious food, great service, felafel samples for those in line. I just love this place!

    (5)
  • Mary L.

Absolutely love this place, honestly some of the best food I've ever eaten. I get the chicken pesto wrap with falafel and hummus and I always have to get a piece or two of baklava. If you're there when they bring a fresh pan of baklava out, definitely get some because the colder the baklava is the more delicious it is(to me any way!). I love how they give you the free samples of falafel and baklava, it's always such a nice treat while you wait. The people behind the counter are ALWAYS pleasant, friendly and courteous. All in all this is an excellent little place, I feel like not many people know about it but it's sooo good!

I am happy to report that I have 7 punches on my "Buy 7 Get One Free" card here and am excited to have my next falafel wrap on the house: one of very many delicious meals I've had here at this restaurant. My go-to wraps are the (vegetarian) international wrap, falafel wrap, and mediterranean wrap. The falafel is perfect here and the wraps are always perfectly portioned for a hearty satisfying meal. The pita chips and hummus are addictive too, watch out! The owner is extremely nice and friendly; he loves to crack jokes to make you smile. If you eat in, you can take your food and drink, eat and pay after you're done, no problem. Affordable and delicious complete with a free baklava sample at the end. I'm a big fan of the International Pocket Cafe, one of my favorite places to eat on Aquidneck Island!

Yes. Yes Yes Yes Yes. Yes and Amen, Yes. Roaming around Middletown late at night after doing some laundry and sick of being on the road we Yelped, not hoping for much, and we found... these guys. Super friendly form the moment you walk in the door (handing us fresh falafels with a dipping sauce for free, just to say hello), assembling the hugest and most legit middle eastern platters you can imagine - all fresh, quality and wonderfully tasty food. Not over Americanised, but still western friendly. Man, I wish this place was in Brooklyn. If you live in Newport and this isn't your daily mojo, shame on you.

Outstanding food. Great lunch crowd. Would love to see them serve dinner and table service. This is a gem that can't fail!

Parking is kinda limited but you can always park next door at the Walgreens. Atmosphere is pretty average. I had the falafel wrap. It was very tasty. I had the extra spicy sauce which is great. A lot of places say things are spicy when they aren't, but this is spicy! My husband had a chicken caesar wrap. He said it good, but not outstanding. They had a good selection of drinks and chips. We also had the baklava and that was really good. Price wise I would say it was a tad expensive at $26 for two. However the wraps are very filling and large and my wrap was super tasty. I will most definitely eat here again. Service was quick and they were nice.

There isn't much to say that hasn't already been said! LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this place. I have eaten here several times in the last two months and have yet to have something I didn't enjoy. The falafel is YUMMY, and free! Awesome! The employees are friendly and fast, absolutely NOTHING negative to say,, except they are always packed, which is great for them! YUM, SEE YA NEXT WEEK!

  • Josh F.

For a nondescript location, Inernational Pocket Cafe delivers a surprisingly tasty punch. The middle eastern food here actually surprised me; I wouldn't have expected the authentic taste and freshness. The free falafel bites they give everyone while waiting was light, fluffy, and delicious. Bravo to the management for giving up samples, its clearly a big hit. The garlic spread on the shwarma wraps is heavy, heavy, HEAVY on the garlic (sure my co-workers hate being downwind of my dragon breath now, but I LOVE it) and everything else was fresh, crunchy, and tasty. Appetizer sampler was epic. Everything was finger licking good....ill probably grab one next time i've got peeps by for munchies. You bet your arse i'll be back soon for some falafel and for some of the baklava. Can't beat it.

So, it's been 4 years since I wrote my original review and the place is still boss!! I was just there today for lunch and it's the same great food and service that it's always been. Really, 'tis, man! And they seem to be doing a HELL of a lot of business! So, it's busy, but manages to not seem too crowded and is still really efficient. And they STILL give you the free falafel when you come in and free baklava when you leave! They've also renovated the place too, a bit. The layout seems to help with the efficiency. Also, they have a couple tables outside, if you feel like watching the local Walgreen's traffic and whatever the hell is going on in the Batik Gardens parking lot (PROBABLY some bullshit!). So, yeah, DIG IT!

This American style sub shop offers instead Mediterranean wraps and appetizers. Bachlava fingers are delightful! If in the mood for something better for lunch, check this place out!

IPC is was on the hidden gems on Aquidneck island. My boyfriend introduced me to this place shortly after he moved here. You are always greeted with a delicious piece of falafel and if your lucky, a piece of baklava. I usually get the Gyro with everything on it. If you like Gyros, you should definitely get one here. Whenever friends are in town, we take them here and we recommend IPC to anyone looking for a good, quick bite.

Wow, by far the best local restaurant experience so far in Newport! I can't believe it took me so long to find this place. As stated in other reviews, this is a hole-in-the-wall Greek/Mediterranean restaurant located on E Main near the intersection with W Main. The owner is super-friendly; he is generous with the falafel and baklava samples and will chat you up as he prepares your order. I have noticed that he's a lot friendlier with the ladies, but I can't blame the guy. I've had the chicken shawarma wrap, the mediterranean veggie wrap, the hummus and chips, and baklava. The shawarma was super-garlicky (which I love), and the chicken was deliciously-marinated and tender. The veggie wrap was outstanding, tasty with a generous portion of light, fluffy delicious falafel. I'm by no means a vegetarian, but if all vegetarian food tasted like this wrap, I might reconsider. The hummus and chips are both homemade. The best part, free falafel in any wrap upon request! If you're in downtown Middletown and looking for lunch, you have to stop and try International Pocket Cafe. I could probably eat here every day of the week; it's that good.

Let's be honest, how many lobster rolls and french fries can one person eat in a day? This place is a great find. SO unexpected for the area. Great greek salads, make sure to ask for grilled chicken on top. I always lose the dressing and jut put tzsiki on mine (even if I can't spell it.) This is a line up and order your food place. They have tables, but may be best to get it to go and add some ambiance. YUM, man, YUM!

  • David C.

This is a good place to go after a day trip in Newport, to fill yourself with nourishment and not have your wallet get the Thames St. rape. They have good wraps, felafel gyros; their wings are only so so.

  • Jessica V.

I've eaten here several times and always been thoroughly pleased with the experience. We usually go for lunch and there's rarely a long wait. You can order your food and eat-in (the dining area is small and unfussy, but clean) or you can grab your food to go. The staff is friendly - You get free falafel to munch on after you place your order and then free baklava at the end. The wraps are amazing. I pretty much always get the gyro wrap with falafel, and it's delicious and filling. There's several other options on the menu, though - Even a good selection of vegetarian options. The rice plates look great, so the next time I'm feeling adventurous, I'll probably try those out, too. To top it all off, they have a sort of rewards card - Buy 7, get 1 free. And trust me, if you live in the area, you will definitely become a regular at this place.

Unassuming shop Get exactly what you want Take home some hummus With so many good reviews, it was unavoidable that I would be stopping here at one point (and I assure you, another.) My only gripe is with myself, that it took so long to get here at all. It's amazing how many ingredients one can stuff into a wrap. The lamb Shawerma wrap, in addition to lettuce, tomato and onion, contains a hefty amount of hummus, tabouleh, a garlic sauce and a lemon dill spread. All grilled and wrapped to perfection. It's enough food to stuff your face and not need seconds. The menu is somewhat confusing, but the owner is friendly and approachable, and makes any necessary deciphering a breeze. There is a multitude of choice, split right down the middle between American and Mediterranean fare. But seriously, does anyone come here for the hamburger? The food, despite any uncertainties you might have with the menu, is accesible. It's not too exotic, and if you don't like a particular ingredient, it's all made fresh so there's no trouble eliminating it. You'll even get a falafel sample while you're pondering. The stuffed grape leaves are delicious, and make for a great appetizer platter if you're eating in-house. I took my whole order home, and ended up eating the pita chips and hummus for the next three days. The hummus is smooth, but a little bit watery. The pita chips are crispy but chewy at the same time, it's a strange sensation. The take-home box is big enough for three people to share. Or one person for three days. I'll definitely be back here, especially for take home in a pinch. It's clean enough inside, but the emphasis is clearly on the fresh-prepared food rather than the in-house dining experience.

This place is a hole in the wall, but NOT to be missed. As soon as you walk in they give you a piece of falafel with tahini. Absolutely fantastic, the best falafel I've ever had. I'm only in Newport for 3 days, but I'll be going here all three nights for dinner. The Mediterranean Wrap is phenomenal, and everything here tastes fresh. For authentic Greek/Med food, look no further.

Very good. Steak and pita bread were a little dry, otherwise a five. Owner very nice.

Fresh, tasty ingredients made to order = Win. You owe it to yourself to try this place, you will be hooked.

My wrap was made with the thinnest, most delicate lavash bread I've ever had. They don't cut your meat directly off a roast, but they use quality ingredients, not MSG. The baklava isn't loaded with honey, so you can savor your pistachios. I think it's the Lebanese style of baklava. They give you the option of different heat (pepper) levels in their wraps, which is nice. Sadly this place is frequented by a few bad apples who don't take kindly to non-Muslims.

Not a gyro at all.... Okay, I read all the reviews that raved about the place, so maybe I went off with my expectations too high. And since I've only eaten there once (and probably that'll be it), you have to take my review with a grain of salt. Service, friendliness, great high marks. No question there. I search everywhere I live for gyros - the real Greek kind. (The best, hand's down, that I've had outside of Greece is Spyro's Gyros in San Diego, but that's beside the point). The gyro wrap here is not a gyro by my definition, though it has the right strips of meat (pre-sliced, not on the round grill set-up). I wondered why everybody was getting wraps with SO MUCH stuff in them - and then I tasted my very simple gyro, with only meat, tomatoes & onion & yogurt sauce...no wonder people want a lot of stuff; if you go with the basics it's really bland and the bread is just awful. It looks like salads and falafel all have huge fans here, and since I didn't try them, I might have missed out. All I'm sayin' is, if you are looking for a gyro, go elsewhere.

Free falafel sample! *eat* Free baklava! This was my favorite part. Everything is supremely fresh, I had a chicken schwaerma, it was light and delicious and the tastes danced around in my mouth - it was fantastic. Also shared a hummus appetizer, also delicious. Not much in the way of fancy dining facilities, but the place is clean and very un-scary, I'll definitely be coming here again soon!

International Pocket Cafe has some of the best gyro wraps I've ever had! In fact, everything they have is some of the best I've ever had. The felafel is amazing, the baklava is fantastic and if you are in a ravenous mood, try the turbo wrap, with chicken, steak, lamb, felafel and grape leaves all in one 5 lb wrap! If you don't go here, you are definitely missing out!

The other reviewers weren't kidding, this place is delishhh! I mean, everything tasted like magic, it was all very satisfying. I don't really like falafel, but I tried their falafel sample anyway and it was the best I've ever tasted. It's not overwhelming like many other falafels I've tried (yes even the place over on the East Side in Providence). The hummus was also incredible, I wish I'd brought some home. I got a chicken tender wrap with lettuce, cheese and honey mustard and it was awesome. My BF got some wrap with grilled chicken in it. He was surprised at how good it was. I'd recommend this place to anyone. I also found a coupon on their website that was buy one wrap, get one free, so check that out before you head in.

The pita chips here are great, and the wraps are good as well. When I first came here, the food seemed to be better; it has gone slightly downhill in the past year. Altogether though it's a good place to stop and get something to eat.

This is one of the best places to get lunch or dinner on the island if you want wraps, salads, or subs. Their portions are great considering the price. The ingredients are always fresh. Many times you are given a falafel and/or baklava sample while you wait. The owner is a very friendly guy. If you are going during peak lunch hour I would call ahead though, as it gets pretty busy.

I was visiting Newport and went here based on the great yelp reviews. I have never gone so wrong. I can only describe the food as disgusting. First off, it should have raised some red flags that I was ordering from a Mediterranean place and there was no grill in sight. You walk in and get a falafel while you are waiting. I took a bite and the inside had a strange, fluffy consistency. Its not real falafel, it seemed like deep fried filler balls. I then made the mistake of ordering an eggplant wrap. The guy behind the counter took 2 strips of "eggplant" (burnt beyond recognition) and put it in something under the counter (a microwave?). He took it out a minute later. I should have walked out then and there. The eggplant was black and soggy, like it had been fried and reheated and reheated. Not edible.

A great place for a wrap or gyro. The food is excellent, though not fancy. Everything we tried was delicious. Gyro wrap, steak wrap, hummus, baklava, and the counter guys are all first rate. May go back before we leave.

The veggie Mediterranean wrap is still my go-to meal here. That, and the freebie baklava that the guy usually gives you. If you work in the area, go here for lunch!

It wasn't as awesome as i expected. Too many options on menu. Bread was not fresh. On the good side...no line, large serving(too large for 1). Falafel really good. All else was fair.

I've been here a couple times now, but yesterday was probably one of the better experiences I had at this food establishment. The line was a little longer than usual, so the owner handed out some falafels while we waited to place our order. I thought this was an awesome gesture. Anyway, I ordered a salad - a chicken and falafel salad with greek dressing and feta cheese. I was suprised out how big the salad actually was. And the chicken was fresh and nice and hot. I was full by the time I finished my salad. ONe of my coworkers orders a grilled chicken wrap, which looked really good. And on the side we split an order of pita chips - which are always tasty. After you get your food you can sit down and enjoy it before you pay, which is nice and when you do get up to pay the owner hands you a piece of baclava to finish off your meal. I just got my frequent food eater card, which I didnt know they had. I always thought those free meal cards were a good idea... I will definetly be going back...

Who would have guessed? You could pass this place 100 times and never think to stop here. Next time...stop. The food is solid, servicec is great, I recommend the salads, grape leaves, hummus, you will not be disappointed. Enjoy.

Fresh, tasty and delicious. What more can you ask for? The owner? manager? is really nice. Gives you falafel while you're figuring out what you want to order and then gives you baklava (mmmm) when you leave. I really enjoy their international wrap, meat turbo, and steak bomb. The portions of these things are v. v. generous. The ingredients are so fresh. I just keep coming back for more! Also, their "hot" hot sauce is indeed rather hot. lol.

wow, this place knocked my socks off. the falafel samples were amazing and delicious. The International Wrap should be called the Space Machine Wrap because it's out of this world: falafel, stuffed grape leaves, hummus, tabouleh, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, tziziki sauce, all wrapped up tight ... and now I'm drooling again! The only reason I'm not giving 5 stars is cause of the lentil soup. it was sad and disappointing -- very very bland, and with whole lentils and rice -- I'm used to creamier, bolder, spicier lentil soup. Everything else was phenomenal, including the staff.

I really love this place. The food is fresh and authentic. Whether you're a vegetarian or carnivore you can find something great. Lamb Shawarma is my favorite. Onion rings are really good too. Free falafels are you kidding. Why wouldn't you go to this place?? Love it.

Eating here right now for the first time, and very pleasantly surprised. The gentleman behind the counter was extremely helpful, there was a ridiculous amount of items to choose from, the food was fresh and competently prepared, and I couldn't be happier with this last minute choice in this town I'm visiting for the first time. Thanks Yelp!

Well what I can I say, the food is very good and the people there are very friendly. I had one of the wraps and all in all it was very tasty. I had the lamb was a little disappointed that it wasn't cut right from the roast but instead was taken from the line and thrown on the griddle to heat up. That really was my only complaint. They have a large selection that is full of new and different things to try.

I went to try it because of the reviews here, and I want to go back to try more! Definitely loved the free falafel =) And the staff was very friendly! I've been craving hummus, so I had the hummus & tabouli wrap which was good. A great stop to grab something quick!

Based on the reviews, I went to this place today, and it was amazing! Best gyro wrap I've ever had, and you have to allow them to add the felafel to your pocket (no charge). I also tried their homemade pita chips and hummus, as well as their baklava sampler, and both were incredible! The food was awesome, the service was excellent, and I would highly recommend this place to anyone that enjoys Mediterranean food!

I can't say enough good things about this place! It is just awesome food at super affordable prices; casual place, you order at a counter and then pick your table. I always get the chicken shawarma with everything (hummus, tahini, tabouli, pickles, tomatoes). I used to live in Newport and was addicted to this place. I especially love the free falafel and baklava samples. They also have some non-middle east food and sammies.

Not only was the food incredibly good, it was very affordable. The employees were very friendly and welcoming, and answered all of my questions about their menu patiently and thoroughly. It's worthwhile to take your time with the menu and try different items.

Darn fine food. Slovaki wrap, or any really is great. Similar assembly line to a Subway chain, you tell them what to put on your wrap while they make it. Way higher quality if fresh veggies and quality meats/falafel than any chain shop though. They do other things than pita wraps like sub sandwiches and salads, all of which has been good. Just like the wraps, they are are choose your own stuffings affair. They usually hand you a piece if falafel as you wait to order...if dining in you get your food, eat it, THEN pay. Paying can take a minute if there is a line so if you're with a group, or alone even, wait until a lull and then go up and pay to avoid the wait. They usually give a small piece of baklava when you pay. Drinks are all bottled, with a large variety. FYI, The Pocket Turbo wrap is basically a 50% bigger wrap with every meat they have, including stuffed grape leaves, and is a bit bigger than I'd eat for a meal...but was delicious.
