Hands down our go to place for both dine-in & delivery Chinese food in Newport/Middletown. The food is always delicious and staff is friendly and courteous. We have tried other places- but nothing holds up to the flavor and quality of the food we get at Ching Tao- it is your best bet for Chinese food on Aquidneck!

This is one of the best Chinese food restaurants on Aquidneck Island! I don't think I've ever been disappointed and I've been eating here for years and years. The Happy Family is delicious! I also love their Chicken Fried Rice and Chicken Egg Foo Young. This is a true FAMILY OWNED and operated establishment. They are always friendly and the delivery is quick.

Ching Tao is definitely as good as it gets as far as Chinese food in the Newport area. There are definitely "American Chinese" style dishes in their menu, but there are some genuine Cantonese style dishes too. I highly recommend their Chow Fun or Cantonese Pan Fried noodles. Don't go for the "Chow Mein" or "General Tso's Chicken" because that is what you can find at Panda Express or other places. The prices are about consistent with the area restaurants. The decor is adequate and there is a bar too for those seeking alcoholic beverages as well. This is not a NYC or CA Chinatown restaurant, but not bad for the area. If you desire to have the "American Chinese" dishes, then you're probably better off going to Bamboo near the Stop & Shop (off Adm Kalfbus Dr).

Ordered my food at 3:32 PM on a Saturday via phone. I found their menu on their website chingtao.iworksweb.com/i… . The women who answered the phone spoke English very well and was friendly. My order: Mango Sensation (beef) Extra Extra Spicy: $8.50. Chicken w/Garlic Sauce (large) Extra Extra Spicy: $6.95. Kung Po Chicken (small): $3.55. I was told my order would arrive in 40-45 minutes. I received it in 42 minutes. I was taken aback when the driver said he never heard of Mango Sensation before. Why wouldn't he know the menu? This question was answered when I looked at the attached menu. It looks like the menu online does not match their printed menu. Mango Sensation is not on the menu, nor is there any dish with mango. It seems that their prices are also totally different. Mango Sensation: $12.25. Chicken w/Garlic Sauce: $8.75. Kung Po Chicken: $4.95. Despite this outrage, which will be handled in person tomorrow, my family and I opened the bag. Strangely the rice was upside down but nothing had spilled. My Mango Sensation was not spicy. At all. Not a hint of spicy. Despite this, it was fairly tasty. The veggies were crunchy and abundant. The slices of beef were medium sized. The few slices of mango were pretty large as well. It did not taste very salty, which is a nice change from the other Chinese restaurants in this area. My wife's Chicken w/Garlic Sauce was also devoid of anything spicy. It was also not very garlic-y. As with my dish, it didn't seem very salty which pleased my wife. The Kung Po Chicken was just like any other Kung Po Chicken, except I told the women on the phone to not make this dish spicy since it was for my 4 year old daughter and it came slightly spicy, actually spicier than the "extra extra spicy" dishes. Once we mixed it in with some rice she was able to eat it. Pros: Friendly phone service, on time delivery, dishes ordered weren't saturated in sodium. Cons: Prices are wrong online, food is somewhat bland, spicy food was not spicy, daughters food was spicy. Overall I am disappointed. I would possibly go for lunch with a group of people but never on my own accord.

Decent Americanized strip mall Chinese food. The delicate tastes of China are hopped up to be extra strong here, so the General Tso's is really sweet, the pork fried rice really soy-y, and the egg drop soup extra sodium-y. A good enough place, but not good enough to keep me coming back.

I've eaten in and taken out from Ching Tao. My eat-in experience was very positive; there were kids next to us doing their homework, and as they were children of the owners (I believe), this gave it a nice family-owned-restaurant vibe. The service was great, friendly and fast. I was able to ask for only white meat, and they kindly cooperated. (This is a reflection of the quality of the restaurant-- if they can't provide only white meat, the place is not a somewhere I'd want to eat.) My meal was generally colorful and flavorful. The food was quality-- not the cheap stuff that you normally find on the island. I had one of the meal deals, so it wasn't too expensive either. I ordered again (delivery this time!) and my experience was equally good. The person answering the phone was very kind and helpful. Delivery was fast. You have to present an ID when paying with a debit card. In the Newport area, I've never had American Chinese as good as Ching Tao's.

Hey there, Someone should adopt Chris P. (see his pics) his review is on the mark, although I can not comment on the egg drop soup my friends seemed to think it is fine. Chris P could still be correct although unlike the ocean, salty today doesn't make it salty tomorrow, to much soy today might mean there is not enough tomorrow and so on. I have also enjoyed eating there over the years, I live in the area and I don't keep coming back either. An occasional one or two times a year is enough without something to make it memorable to draw me back more often. I don't think anyone would be unhappy eating at Ching Tao when you are in the area looking for food. It is more made to order than the chain places up and down East Main Rd and the surrounding area.

Better than average Americanized Chinese food. Has your typical fare. Better than most on the island (unfortunately) ...

Best Chinese I've had in newport. Really wish they would deliver on base but no such luck. They serve the best crab rangoon I've had anywhere. More stuffing than wonton and more crab than cream cheese. Complete opposite of most places. Hunan chicken was great and fairly healthy. No breading or heavy sauce although I expected it to be a little spicier as I asked for extra spicy. Next time I'll just ask for extra extra spicy I guess. I wouldn't rate it as a must try if you're visiting newport but if you're in the mood for american chinese then this is the place. Oh! And a full bar with a good pour.

I've been going there and ordering delivery from there for years. I actually just ordered delivery. That's what brought me here. There very kind people. The service is outstanding. The food is the best Chinese by far on the island (China Star being number 2) and over the years nothing's changed. Same great food and the same attention to quality and consistency. It's like eating the first meal you've had there, every time you go there. With so many drastic changes on the island, I'm glad they stuck around :)

..Well, I wanted to like this place. I REALLY did. I decided to try it, and when I called the girl on the phone was very pleasant-- as was the delivery guy who dropped it off. .. Sadly, they cannot make up for the really bad quality white rice, and the Kung Pao Chicken that was so greasy, I contemplated sticking the chicken in the fridge over night, and taking off the hardened grease to make some sort of nasty chicken smelling soap. .. The Ribs were good, and the home made duck sauce and spicy mustard they give you is also very good ( Reminded me of the Chinese food we use to get in Massachusetts) . The ONLY saving grace to this place, is that all the meat and vegetables seemed very fresh. Would I go here again? . . . Probably not, unless I wanted a reminder of my childhood.

They have the best sweet and sour chicken I have ever had. The white rice was really sticky but not inedible. We also got not sesame chicken which was super tasty and some of the best fried rice we've had in a long time. Highly recommend this place.

My wife & I frequent this establishment quite a bit, it is our go to location for something quick and good in a pinch. I wouldn't say its the best Chinese but on the island its better than most. We stick with the old standbys wonton soup, oyster wings, kung pao chicken, chicken fingers, and house egg foo young. The staff who delivers and the wait staff in the restaurant have been nothing less than excellent. Always super nice and polite. The food is great for the price!

Excellent Chinese food restaurant. I ordered a sesame chicken combo with pork fried rice and an egg roll. They really pile on the chicken and rice, I was so totally pleased. Most Chinese restaurants I've been to in the past charge you way too much for way too little food. Our waiter was extremely pleasant, and didn't hover over us like some waiters do. The price was good, and my girl was also happy about her meal. I recommend!

Hands down the best American Chinese restaurant I've ever been to. I grew up in Newport and every time I come home I have my Mom put in a order as I'm coming over the bridge. The Combination with pork fried rice, golden finger, boneless spare ribs and beef on a stick is amazing. I also recommend General tso's chicken, chicken chow mein, and egg rolls. My grandma swore by the crab rangoons also. The boneless spareribs have never once been fatty. If you're in town, check this place out! If you're local I'd put them in your delivery rotation. Now if I could only get them to open Ching Tao West in San Francisco.

After a long day at work I finally make it to drive my daughter and nephew to Newport for the 4th July fireworks. We decided to eat before and we wanted to try a Chinese Restaurant here. After finding ChingTao, I must say that I was immediately happy as soon as we walked in. Clean, welcoming, the staff are friendly when the atmosphere is perfect! We ordered the Spring Rolls and Crab Ragoo for appetizers.... Oh my GOODNESS! The crab Ragoo are amazing and the dipping sauce was delicious! For dinner I ordered the Shrimp with Garlic Sauce served with white rice. I have to say that the waiter was pleasant, patient, friendly, attentive, and had the best timing...... He knew when to bring us our food at the right time!!!! Lol I really enjoyed this Ching Tao! I couldn't stop telling he kids of how Ching Tao is my new best Chinese Place in Rhode Island. I most say got the restaurant jack pot! My food was fresh, delicious, and they served enough for two people on one dish. Loved it! I recommend it to everyone and Chinese food lovers like myself... Overall I'm very happy with the food and the service. I've been here 3 or 4 times. The Pork I ordered was a bit dry and poorly seasoned. I sent it back and the Manager gracefully took it off my bill and provided a differant dish.

My husband and I love the food ! I have to say we were disappointed last night in the chicken wings. Our dinners were delicious as always but the appetizer wasn't as good. We always order the wings well done and they just weren't right - we hope you didn't change anything !

Ordered some delivery tonight. Came in good time! We ordered a General Tso special with a side of Beef Lo Mein and some Chow Mein. It was ALL so good! I see that some people didn't like the duck sauce, but honestly it was good. It was darker in color and the texture was more smooth than like apple sauce like we're used to, but the taste was still right on.

Best Chinese take out on the island. Delivery is quick, usually only about 20 minutes to Newport. The Ham Fried Rice (with extra egg) is delicious - still nice and soft, not fried crispy. Appetizers are all yummy as well. Not much else really stands out as amazing - but as far as typical American style Chinese restaurants go, Ching Tao is a good bet. Boyfriend and I were disappointed that the vegetarian choices are fairly limited, and they only saute their tofu, none was fried. I have only ordered take out/delivery. The restaurant inside is fairly dated but looks like most typical Asian restaurants in the area. Plenty of parking in the lot out front.

I'm not from the area, but pass through semi-frequently. Needing something to eat, I looked for something and this was the first place I came upon. The parking lot was filled, so I went in with the assumption that it was good Chinese food. My assumption was correct. Because of how busy was, the staff was very swamped. Since I was by myself, I sat at the bar. The bartender was working by himself, but also had to deal with walk-ins, take-outs, and call ins. I saw how busy he was, so I didn't care all that much when he didn't ask me if I wanted a drink, but the least he could've done was put a water up. The food was very good. It wasn't gourmet or homemade, but it was good Chinese. The portions were good and the prices are reasonable. The best part of this place: the men's room. Two side-by-side, undivided toilets, and a urinal directly in font of them. Throw in a sink, a trash can, and some cleaning supplies, and it was an absolute party. Unfortunately, I didn't get to share this experience with anyone else. I would go back.

I ordered the Moo Goo Gai Pan Dinner Combination. It had chicken slices, water chestnuts, bok choy, pea pods, celery, & mushrooms. It came with a side of pork fried rice & an egg roll for $10.25. The egg roll was pretty standard: pork, shredded cabbage, carrot, etc. The pork fried rice was a generous portion & was seasoned so it had a dark black color to it. Ironically, It didn't really have a strong flavor. The color though was a bit odd. The meal wasn't bad but It wasn't really very good. I would try other Chinese restaurants in the area...... It just wasn't good enough for me to order from there again.

A disappointment. Fried rice was bland & very dark in color, egg rolls had pork & shrimp?? they were passable, crab rangoons were oddly sweet, and Kung pao shrimp had those strange little baby shrimp w veggies that looked past their prime. I thought they forgot to include duck sauce but it was just almost black in color. Oh, and a 65 minute wait for delivery instead of the promised 45 minutes...I will not order again.

When I lived in Middletown this was my go-to place for Chinese, hands down. The pork fried rice is delicious with a ton of pork, and I've never had better wonton soup as instead of just broth and overly-thick wontons they give you soft wontons, pea pods, some green leafy stuff (ha sorry, don't know what it is), and pork. Now that I live in Seekonk I miss going to Ching Tao, so when I went to Middletown this month to see my parents I made it a requirement to get some takeout. The family that runs it is really friendly too, so if you're in the area and are hankering for some Chinese food you should give this place a try...and get the wonton soup!

Underflavored food in a dining room a little too crowded with average prices. Big fat meh. We ordered fried dumplings for an appetizer. The dough was as thick as a pancake, which made the whole thing a little flavorless. I had Kung Pao chicken and it tasted like raw veggies. The sauce was underwhelming. My wife's General's Chicken was okay, but the consistency of the meat was too soft and the sauce was again, lacking in flavor. The restaurant looks like most mid-range Chinese restaurants, with the same prints on the wall and round catering tables. The dining room is a little over-crowded. I learned a little too much about my neighbors. And the restaurant is inexplicably popular, so you'll wait for a table. While there are some restaurants that are not amazing, but satisfying if you're in the neighborhood, this is not one. This is the kind of restaurant to drive a little further to avoid. It's not awful. It's not even bad. It's just kind of disappointing.

It took us a little while to find this place. We drove up and down the road trying to find something to eat, and I finally found Ching Tao. However, I think we passed it 3 times before actually reaching our destination. The service was good, as well as the food. It was a little nerve-wracking that we were the only ones in there, but I guess that doesn't tell too much about the quality of food. The chicken was super fresh, and my fiancee's chow fun was pretty good. We are pretty spoiled when it comes to noodles and green tea on the table before dinner. We frequent Hunan Dynasty on Long Island, and I think we are trying to compare it a little too much to this place. Either way, it satisfied our Chinese food craving when we were pretty sure there was not going to be any good Chinese restaurants in RI. We were wrong! Tip to the restaurant: Try to work on the lighting, and the noodles are a bit too thin! We want something we can dip into duck sauce!

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
