Went for Restaurant Week and made me a fan. A little out of the way but well worth it. Great food and atmosphere, can go for dinner or drinks at the bar.

I met friends here for drinks and wasn't counting on much due to location but this it's truly a hidden gem! I really liked the outdoor seating on the water. The staff was very friendly and it seems like this is a place that locals gravitate towards and they were even super friendly. I came here for strictly drinks but ended up trying a piece of steak that was a special that night. - it was phenomenal. The next time I go back I'll be ordering that!

We went here for dinner Saturday night. We drove past it so it sort of sneaks up on you. the parking lot is a little tight but they offer free valet. We walked in and it was empty, not a good sign. We look over the menu, a good variety of everything. I was in the mood for a burger so I ordered the 1/2 pound bacon and cheese (9.99). Our seats had a nice view of the water. It looks like a great place to go in the summer. We received our food and my burger was gigantic! It was 1/2 pound burger, 2 huge tomato slices, lettuce, onions, and onion straws piled very high. I thought the absence of sauce was weird but it still had great flavor. The burger was very good. We had to ask the waitress why it was so dead. She said they have new owners as of December 2014 and some nights are crazy and others are quiet. My wife and I had the burgers, and my dad had the grilled chicken. All three of use thought the food was very good. I have only one compliant. We all order a soda each, and the glasses were very skinny and loaded with ice (about 6 oz of actual soda). Burgers are salty and make you thirsty so we needed to drink. My pet peeve is being charged for refills without knowing so when we received the bill for $2 per soda, I was disappointed. At least make the glasses bigger or use a lot less ice. Other than that we will be back! ( Just ordering water or beer instead)

Hidden Gem Pros: Great affordable food Good drinks and draft beer Nice location Cons: Weird Entrance If your looking for a bar with great affordable food this is the place for you. They pour great drinks and have a good draft beer. They also have a great outdoor setup. I've tried all of the sandwiches and the pizzas and they are all good. You will not be disappointed. My favorite is the steak sandwich. Service is pretty attentive and friendly. I really can't find anything to complain about. You can go to this place and get a couple of quality dishes of food and a couple of beers each for around 30-35 bucks and that is hard to find these days, especially for the quality that you get here. Try this spot out, you definitely won't be disappointed. Thanks

Ok so this place scores points for the beautiful outdoor decks. Parking I find to be dangerous, they do offer valet (I think) on the weekends which should help. The food we had was average, nothing spectacular but for a nice outside restaurant it is perfect. I will say the service is poor, I was there on a week night where it clearly was not busy and getting anything took forever, drinks especially. A server should always move quickly to get drinks to the table since that usually keeps people happy. Overall, if you are in the area it is better than the chain restaurants in Smithfield and offers a nice view.

Very nice location. Would love to sit outside and have a few drinks on the deck. Got dinner with my husband and his steak was SO overlooked. He let the waitress know (and he never complains) and she said she would let the cook and manager know. The manager never came over! That is terrible service. Even if the meal was bad, we probably would have tried it again, but after that, no way!

I'd really like to try this bar out in the summer! They have an awesome outdoor deck on the water, who knew? This place is a hidden gem in smithfield. We can here for some food and a couple beers. They were out of fries and wings we were told when we sat down, huh? What restaurant runs out of fries? Oh well we ended up ordering pasta dishes and they were pretty good. No complaints, but nothing I would be dying to go back for. A woman came in and started doing kareoke but only a couple of older ladies decided to partake before we left and sadly they had no idea that you need to put the mic to your mouth to actually hear you sing, or maybe that was a good thing ? ;) there was a mix of older (mostly women) at the bar and at the tables was a mix of younger kids who all seemed to know each other and I decided this must be a pregame spot for them probably before going out in providence. All in all we will probably be back if not soon definitely in the summer to enjoy drinks on the deck!

Best bar in Smithfield. My wife and I go out to eat often and it does not matter if we are dining at a five star steak house or a local pub, we always look for consistency. We have been to tavern 743 several times now and it consistently delivers. Great bar food, great pricing and hometown environment. The fried pickles are a must!

This is by far me and my husbands favorite spot for apps, dinner and drinks. They just changed the menu around a little bit (in a good way) and put on more appetizers and sandwiches. The additions are awesome, with the exception of the potsticker dipping sauce which is waaaaaaay too salty for us. You really can't go wrong with the pizzas or sandwiches either. I wish that the marinara wasn't "spicy" as my 8 year old can't tolerate spicy stuff but has an adults appetite. Also, the staff are friendly, inviting and quick to refill our drinks!! They have a large beer and wine selection. The downside- the parking. They do have a valet, however, they leave your keys in the open for anyone to walk off with! If you choose to park yourself, beware of 44! People drive like animals!! Overall, check this place out! You'll love it!!

Wow- I was surprised! No idea that this idyllic little gem existed over the borders of what us city-folk think of Rhode Island! Recently renovated, Tavern 743 used to be Water's Edge Restaurant & Bar, and it is just that: ON the waters of the Waterman Reservoir. Yes, on. The building is build slightly OVER the water, and outdoor dinning on the top deck, or just inches over the water on the deck below. Free valet parking (poor valet has to run back and forth across Putnam Pike where people don't always follow the speed limit so please tip the poor man!) We only had an app and drinks - but enjoyed what we had and plan to return to this hidden water spot!

Where to begin? I've heard "3rd time is a charm" well NOT so much for this place! In all fairness the food is not bad. It's the way this place is run and the EXTREMELY rude and ARROGANT owner . On our last ....and I do mean LAST visit it was no where near as crowded as the time before but the place was BURIED in the WEEDS and no one knew how to My husband was served his beer nearly 12 mins. before I was brought my glass of wine. (the first of 2 glasses ordered). The waitress informed me the bar had run out of glasses! .....STRIKE 1! We ordered a salad to share and both ordered pizzas. 25 mins later our waitress brings out HIS pizza and asks him to ck if it is done enough. He replies yes and she places it down and says mine will be right out. I order my 2nd glass of wine before she leaves. ANOTHER 10 mins later pizza arrives but no glass of wine.....STRIKE 2! ANOTHER 10 mins go by. Now, I got up and walk to the bar where our waitress is standing and I tell her this is absolutely ridiculous. I would have liked my wine WITH my pizza". The "bartender" BARKS an apology towards me and proceeds to rant how someone did not show up and he's left short handed. I said that's unfortunate but it isn't MY fault or problem . I walk back to our table. 8 mins later she brings my drink......STRIKE 3! My husband is aggravated and asks her for our check. Yet ANOTHER10 mins go by without the check. We walk up to the hostess stand and the waitress hands us the check apologizing profusely. I walked up to the bar and ask the bartender if he is the mngr. He shouts back at me " No "HONEY" I'M THE OWNER AND I ALREADY APOLOGIZED TO YOU!" I said this has been an awful experience." He yells back at me" WELL "SWEETHEART" YOU CAN JUST LEAVE!" My response was..." I fully intend on leaving and I am neither your HONEY nor your SWEETHEART!" He flipped out yelling WHADDAYA GONNA DO RUN HOME AND JUMP ON YELP? GO FOR IT! KNOCK YOURSELF OUT, GET OUTTA HERE AND DON'T COME BACK" He takes our check and shoves the money at my husband saying "IN FACT TAKE YOUR MONEY AND SCREW !!!!" He was still ranting and raving as we left. Perhaps, along with some schooling in HOSPITALITY, he should consider ANGER MANAGEMENT!!!!!

Hey there - Well I live minutes from this little Resturant and have only one complaint.... They had a chicken parm dish with pasta and used to smother it is a light tomato sauce-- it has a fresh tomato flavor and lots of basil. Well then they went and switched it to a spicier, heavy ":gravy " sauce that I am NOT a fan of. That being said, this USED to be Bonnie and Clydes; a biker bar. It was sold several years ago and became Water's edge. At the time, it was rather expensive and the food then was mediocre at best. NOW it has become 743 (743 Putnam Pike ) and the wine list is extensive. Nice for a small resturant next door. Thier menu is somewhat limited. I wish you could add a side salad for a few bucks. I like their Pasta and Pink cream sauce.(((I am a fam of pink cream sauces)) My Husband almost fell over with the veal parm - It's a whole dang chop- like a bone in- caveman style- hanging off of the plate. He also had a Fettucini and Peas with Pancetta one night- THAT was very good, also. Only once have I finished my whole meal. The prices are good - the atmosphere can be a bit loud- but blame it on the commercials- There was a game on and it wasn't even the roar of the crowd that was blaring - it was the commercials....they near threw us back! We asked the Bartender to lower it a bit and he did thank God. The waiter was okay... nothing over the top- forgot to mention the specials one night so make sure you ask. All in all not my favorite resturant, but quite good!

Tavern 743 was a recommendation by a friend. It's a very casual establishment with an indoor and outdoor seating area. Outdoor seating was taken, so we ate indoors. The bar is adjacent to the indoor seating, and with the Saturday night bar crowd in tow, it was hard to have a conversation over dinner. The food was alright (cajun chicken and shrimp) and my friend enjoyed the gnocchi. I tried the sangria that was recommended by another reviewer, and it was average. Our waitress was very personable, and that was the highlight of the evening. I'd consider returning if I'm in the area, but probably wouldn't go out of my way.

We chose 743 for the outside deck on the water. We only had an hour before we had to be elsewhere but figured with only 3 other tables in the place (ten people total), an hour should be plenty. WRONG! Our waitress took our drinks order shortly after we sat down and when she reurned, we ordered our meals - a hamburger and fish and chips (the days special). Forty five minutes later, we asked for the check and our food to be boxed as it had yet to arrive at our table! And we still waited another 5 minutes for the food. Not a sorry or word of apology. Also while we sat at our table, one of the umbrella's on the deck was blown out of it's stand and nearly hit more than one patron - not once but twice. Again not a word of apology from the staff! In the end, the burger was over cooked - I ordered med rare it was well done. The Ale I order was really an IPA and the staff was almost non existent.

I drive by Tavern 743 often but had never ventured in. Yesterday, we were looking for a place for lunch near the antiques store we planned to visit. Tavern 743 popped into my head. It was a beautiful sunny day and we chose to sit on the deck. When we arrived, we were the only people on the deck. Beautiful spot! The waitress was friendly, helpful and attentive. I had the "garbage salad". A big salad with roasted red peppers, cucumbers, tomatoes, banana peppers, olives, chunks of provolone and chunks of salami. There was plenty of the good stuff in this salad and I couldn't finish it. My companion had a burger. Generous portion, cooked appropriately and accompanied by good fries. Good food, good service. I was put off by the fact that smoking was allowed on the outdoor bar above the deck and also on the deck. Do not like eating my yummy food accompanied by cigarette smoke! There was also a person sitting on the deck, near our table, chatting on the phone. She didn't eat, wasn't really sitting at a table and just talked for a very long time. My impression is that she worked there ...but not sure. That was very distracting and annoying! Will definitely be back!

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
