the best hidden gem in Rhode Island. by far one of the best home made ice cream places I have ever been to. chocolate walnut is my absolute favorite and there is no place locally that sells that flavor. having it homemade is just an added bonus. the servings are plentiful, just wish it wasn't so far from my home!

Ice cream machine, or ICM is one of the hidden gems tucked away in the corner of Cumberland, Rhode Island. With hefty scoops and tons of options, the flavor has never disappointed. My favorite is mint chocolate chip - classic yet perfected.

One of the best ice creams I ever had. Homemade and so creamy. I ordered the Amaretto and Almond flavor and my brother got Oreo Coffee. Both one scoops in wafer cones. (They also have sugar cones, waffle bowls, etc.) Wow they serve big portions. We had to ask separate bowls and spoons. Tables and benches all around. They take CASH ONLY. But they do have ATM machine inside.

Excellent taste, lovely setting.perfect for after game or after walk outing. This place is so good that I can visit it every week, if only I didn't care about fat. But wait, they have fat free and low fat options too!

  • Andrea T.

The sea salt caramel frozen yogurt may have changed my life for the better, but I will definitely be getting a kiddie next time!

They have a great variety of flavors to choose from including specials for the season, and the portions are fairly generous. Picnic tables provide seating, or you can walk across the street to the park. Be prepared, there are no public restrooms and they accept cash or check only (but there is an ATM). The lines can get really long, but move pretty quickly. No matter what time of year, this place always attracts a crowd.

First off let me say wish I could give it a half star Now on to the review. I have been coming here since I was a kid and the place is good but not great. I feel they are over price and every year they seem to keep going up. The only reason I come back so much is the kids like to go to the park and it's nearby. They only take cash which most ice cream places only do so That's No surprise. It's kinda messy at times and the tables can get filthy and sticky from the trees above. Wouldn't kill them to wipe them down every now and then or pick up the trash lazy people leave behind. Parking can be hectic if there busy and I would suggest parking across the street to make it easier. The ice cream is just OK for homemade and have had better at other places not far away from here. There are No bathrooms as Well so if u need to wash hands make sure u have something to use. Overall it's an OK place but nothing to rush back to.

This place is amazing!!! Been going here since I was a wee tot, and it's by far the best service and best home-made ice cream I've ever had... All should try it!

  • Amanda L.

One of the best Ice Creams I've ever had. So many flavor choices to choose from. The coffee oreo is definitely a favorite in our house!

I love ice cream, and I love Ice Cream Machine. Been many years since I've been here because I moved out of state in 1997. While visiting with my sister today she mentioned getting some ice cream, and next thing I know I was headed down Diamond Hill Road!! For a Thursday night this place was packed. They have a huge board with all their favors on it. Was so nice to see flavor since could never get in California or Florida like Coffee, Maple Walnut & Frozen Pudding. I went for a cone of Maple Walnut, my favorite!!. My sister warned me beforehand to get a small, because their small was huge,, and she was right. The ice cream was flavorful, creamy and generous!! Definitely recommend. Great little place to make family memories.

I've been known to take a drive up to Cumberland to get a tasty ice cream. This place is packed, but the staff know it, and I only waited in line for ten minutes or so, and have signs to show that they truly are CASH ONLY. Their ice cream is OK for home made, I have had better, but the kiddie portion was filling. The prices are average compared to other home made ice cream places. I do wish that the signs with the flavors were easier to see in line... maybe they should have one overhead like they do their menu?

Stopped after dinner for four small cones. Plentiful parking, not busy, but no public bathrooms? Cones were excellent - dont recall accurately the names - fudge oreo; caramel sea salt; chocolate coconut and raspberry sorbet. Good size serving for the price. Plenty of picnic benches and the tables looked clean, not covered in sitcky drippings or wadded up napkins. Definitely best ice cream in area. We have tended to go to Spruce Pond in Wrentham, but service is much much better here.

I've been coming here for years now and I was in love with there ice cream. But My most recent trip here was very disappointing for a regular. Okay I got the purple cow which has been my favorite but now they load it with white chocolate morsels, why!?! First thing why would you put whole morsels in you can barley chew them and why would you change a classic without informing people that it's different. I had to spit out nearly a hundred morsels!! Was not satisfying at all. And you got rid of the best section the seasonal, flavored caramel apple and key lime!!! Why get rid of those my girlfriend who is pregnant was craving the key lime which was unbelievably good, and they don't carry it anymore. What happened to the ice cream machine!?

  • Jennifer S.

If you haven't been here yet, you need to go. Ice cream is great, home made and just delicious. There are so many flavors to chose from so be prepared to want to try them all. Ive also tried the frozen yogurt...impressive!

    (5)
  • Tina G.

Went here today. The ice cream is good. The prices aren't bad. We got 2 hot fudge sundaes & a cup of frozen yogurt for 10 bucks. The one thing i don't like and the reason i gave 4 instead of 5 stars is the parking. It's crazy there.

    (4)
  • Jeff H.

Tonight when we got here they were pretty busy but the line went rather quick. Be prepaired also for a lot of ice cream if you get the small. We all got the kiddie size and it was more then enough. They also have so many great flavors to choose from my favorite is any with cookie/Oreo in the title. My two older kids when they visit for the summer they always ask to come and get Ice Cream.. I always tease them abs say the only reason you came all the way up here from North Carolina was for the Ice Cream

    (5)
  • Monica B.

I was surprised as to how long we actually had to wait to be served since there weren't that many people ahead of us. However, it was worth the wait. Cookie dough ice cream really hit the spot.

Summer: open till 10pm I really enjoyed the black raspberry chip yogurt. It was just as good as the one I get at my fave ice cream shop in N. Kingstown. My hubby had a small 1/2 coconut and 1/2 pistachio on a waffle cone. He said it was delicious. (Thank you, Yelpers, for pointing out how big a "small" serving is.) This place is out of the way for us, but worth the trip.

  • Dina M.

This place has good ice cream, but has terrible cleanliness practices. Yes they hand make all the ice cream, however if your allergic to cats or just hate them than stay away. I went inside in the winter and these people, it is a family run business, have there cats walking all over the back area where they make the ice cream. It's gross they walk on counters where the ice cream is being prepped. Cats walk through their own feces in their litter box and to allow them to walk in this area is nasty. Not to mention they shed and have dander, who wants that in their ice cream? Not me. I would not go here again after I saw that. Yuck!!!

  • Bread Man S.

Great place, so many memories with the kids at this place. The ice cream is great, I am not a super ice cream critic or anything, but I like it a lot. The kids that work there are great. I highly recommend.

  • Lauren L.

I am almost afraid to tell people how awesome this place is because I don't want to stand in line any longer than I have to! Husband and I love to try local, homemade ice cream shops. This one is the perfect blend of good old fashioned awesome flavors combined with a distinctive local feel. You will have to come back to try all their flavors. And yes, they are GENEROUS. The small is almost two full cups of ice cream. Husband and I have been here twice and tried only 4 of the 20+ flavors they are offering. On second thought the wait is good because we can be indecisive. Practical points: CASH ONLY. The parking lot is small but adequate. There are plenty of picnic tables to chill right there and the park across the street is inviting. Just don't hog all the coffee heath ice cream if you go, it's my new favorite flavor.

    (5)
  • Jennifer P.

Husband and an had our first trip there tonight. So delicious, and so many flavors to choose from! I ordered the medium dish of cows tracks and husband ordered Oreo. More in a medium than either one of us could finish and for the right price too. The service was fast and friendly. Definitely looking forward to visiting this place all summer!

    (5)
  • Tom S.

Ok this place is tucked away in a quiet spot which is good because I want to keep it to ourselves!!!!! Some seriously delicious icecream and great service. If on the mass/ri line you'll be happy you found it!!!!

    (5)
  • Carol Ann R.

Omg it was soooooooo good! Four days later I'm still dreaming about it. The small icecream was HUUUUGE - like three huge scoops! Next time I'm getting a sundae and skipping lunch and dinner beforehand. The Ice Cream Machine has easy parking, lots of seating, friendly patient sweet staff and happy happy customers :)

    (5)
  • Alli M.

4 stars only because the ice cream is too rich for my sensitive stomach, which is no one's fault but mine. Call it spiteful rating. I usually opt for a kiddie cup of mint chocolate chip, it's delicious. Love that they have a dog-friendly menu, but as my little beast is just as sensitive as me she probably won't be indulging anytime soon. Great place! Boys love the milkshakes!

    (4)
  • Tess W.

Huge, huge list of ice cream. Huge, huge line. Worth the wait? Yes, if you are having a "tour of RI" summer. Prices were ok. You have to figure that this place has to make all it's money in a couple months. They also sell pies, we haven't tried the pies yet. I had a single scoop sundae in a bowl. Mr. Man had a giant two scoop on a waffle cone. Both happy. We finished up across the road in the park. Also, bring wet wipes for the hands, faces....t-shirts.

  • Vincent T.

Ahh.. out of our typical network of local ice cream establishments, the Ice Cream Machine is a worthwhile trip. There are easily 50 flavors of ice cream, sorbet, frozen yogurt, and sherbet. My flavor du jour was a cherry chocolate chip ice cream... The 2 scoop medium was more than enough. The ice cream had good flavor, plenty of little cherry pieces, and more than plenty semi-sweet chocolate pieces... So much that I had to chew the ice cream.. not that it's a bad thing here... Wife had a white chocolate chip which I tried a spoonful and tasted great.. Someone said prices are high, but given the cost increase of dairy stuff, I'd consider the prices here pretty normal. Parking is very limited, so it could be hard to stop on busy times. But there are a good number of picnic tables, and a covered deck to sit out and eat. Nothing inside, so this is a seasonal place only.

    (5)
  • Joanna R.

Delicious DELICIOUS ice cream and ice cream products!! I love the Purple Cow! The frappes are worth the wait. A lot of flavors and combinations to choose from and my second favorite is Peppermint Stick. If you have to park across the street, be prepared to dodge traffic on a hot summer night. Portions are huge and worth every penny!

    (5)
  • Anna E.

The icecream here is my favorite icecream ever! I usually order the white chocolate chip. I would recommend that to anyone, the icecream here is 5 Stars. They need to clean the tables more even just hose them off after some time. What I really enjoy is that they pack the icecream so you can enjoy a lot. There's always room for improvement.

  • Ashley B.

I'm not from the area, however my boyfriend is and one summer evening he took me here. We were both craving ice cream and decided to try it out. The service is great. Are you going to wait in line? Absolutly... is it worth every second in line? Absolutly. They have flavors you wont find anywhere else and they aren't skimpy with the serving size at all either. We brought the pup, got our ice cream and ate it across the street at the park. There is plenty of seating their but the dog had too much stimulus between everyone and the kids everywhere trying to pet him. If you eat there there's plenty to look at it, and then across the street we ended up watching someone fly fishing lol. Weird to see both worlds divided by a street. The icecream was amazing. We both got the bowls and the flavors were extremely rich. I'm lactose intolerant and i'd still risk it for this place. Super Yummy!!!

  • Mary M.

The variety of flavors is fantastic. The ice cream is quite good, (but it had better be, New England has tons of great ice cream places.) When it's crowded, with ridiculously long lines (and it frequently is) it's not worth the aggravation. Like another poster said, the crowds of people mean parking availability is zero and the picnic tables get filthy, sticky gross. Also they need NO SMOKING signs posted on the fence at the picnic tables. Nothing is worse than trying to enjoy eating something delicious when there is cigarette smoke blowing in your face. (Thanks lady who ordered no ice cream, but just sat there puffing away.)

After rave reviews by a friend we made a journey to The Ice Cream Machine. It took me forever to find this little gem. After an hour of driving, we came to find it was actually quite easy to locate, and maybe we just needed better directions lol. The wait was atleast 20-30 mins, however it was a very warm friday summer evening... The ice cream was delicious , and from that I know all made onsite. Prices are on the high side of average, but still worth it.

    (5)
  • Jimmy A.

They have so many flavors and some you won't find anywhere else. They have special seasonal flavors too. I got an apple caramel icecream in a choc dipped waffle cone. It tasted like an apple pie! There's plenty of parking and tables to sit at outside. There is also a park across the street to walk off all those calories you just consumed. Cash or check only but there is an ATM machine there if you need one.

    (5)
  • Robert B.

Extensive flavors to choose from. Check out the picture I posted for details. Great place to stop on a hot day and have some delicious home-made ice cream. Servings are big. Prices are reasonable. I tried my friends Chocolate Fudge Oreo. Sharing is caring. : ) The only reason I gave this a 4 star is location. You'll definitely want to spray you and your loved ones with Off or purchase a Skeeter Defeater Mosquito Killer before attempting to sit at any of there picnic tables.

  • Tif W.

A must visit! This place has the best homemade ice-cream in the area. So many unique flavors to choose from and HUGE portions. I have been coming here for over 25 years, and now is a special place I bring my girls. I do have to say, there are ALWAYS lines BUT they do move pretty quickly. My favorite flavor is coffee oreo and buttercrunch. I have dared to try flavors like ginger, pumpkin and grapenut which are all uniquely awesome. Birthday Cake, Dinosaur tracks and bubblegum are my girls favorite flavors. Beware portions are giant! My kids have trouble finishing even one scoop. The downside are the mosquitoes, they do not accept credit cards and there is no place to wash your hands after the huge scoops drip all over you. But I will deal with all of that for a great cone!

    (4)
  • Gregory M.

Landmark going strong. Flavors, flavors, and more flavors. Have been so successful I believe they are open year round. Grab a cone and stroll in the state park across the street. Sometimes the lines are long but that usually means only positive things.

    (5)
  • Ed P.

Great homemade ice cream! Dozens of favors including sherbet, yogurt and no sugar added. They also make some really yummy cream cakes for take out

    (5)
  • Marissa A.

Sooooo many flavors! Honestly, who doesn't love ice cream? And homemade ice cream. When I return to RI, I always try to make it to Ice Cream Machine. Servings are huge - I don't even know how I finished a medium as a kid. And yes, in the summer there are going to be lines, but they move along and it makes your ice cream taste that much better!

  • Jessica S.

really good chocolate, smores, apple, egg nog, frozen rum pudding, chocolate fudge oreo, mint oreo, and red velvet ice creams, and awesome waffle cones. Smores taste like marshmallow and chocolate, not really smores. no graham cracker taste or texture, still very good though. Birthday cake was a bit off to me, can't really pin point why. Maybe I expected it to taste like the cake batter flavors I have had elsewhere. I also did not love the pistachio or french vanilla. I like that they do small batch ice cream but the flavor still needs to be right. Rum raisin is good but could use some more raisins. maple walnut is just ok. Would love to see some rocky road on the menu. I have had a couple small issues with this place. One, the Smores ice cream is actually seasonal but listen under regular flavors. I've gone there twice just to get that ice cream and the first time I was told they were out, second time I was told the same and not told it was seasonal until I asked what the issue was. They also really need descriptions of their flavors somewhere. Multiple times I have ordered something and it turned out to be different than what I expected. So ask before you buy it. I ordered frozen pudding, which I expected to be chocolate. I thought it was not put in my waffle cone because the other flavor I got was apple and it tasted just like it. I called and the girl who gave it to me was the manager I asked for. She said it is rum pudding flavor with fruit in it. She said this happens all the time that people expect it to be chocolate. Right....so take a hint and do something about it. Like a description of your flavors already or telling people what it is. I also expected the rasberry truffle and the black cherry ice cream to not be vanilla based so that was dissapointing. It's a bit pricey at $6+ for a waffle cone. And they have a cup to tip on top of it. I find this to be in bad taste for jobs like being a cashier and essentially doing exactly what you should be doing for 2 minutes The website is aimed more at distributors than customers. I wish they would add more info about the business or the ingredients. Pretty blah.

Use to go to the Ice Cream Machine for years from early spring to even the late fall months. A few years back I noticed I was not enjoying certain flavors much. The black raspberry ice cream was darker and less creamy tasting, for example. More importantly, when purchasing ice cream in a cup rather than a cone, I noticed the substance rather than melting into liquid pulled apart more like taffy with each spoon full. Those instances prompted me to search their website for ingredients listed. While it may be difficult to find a truly "all natural" ice cream I was surprised to find the number of artificial ingredients and fillers used in a "homemade" product. The Ice cream Machine product exceeded the amount in the some of the more inexpensive supermarket brands ( I looked up about 5 flavors including the black raspberry the vanilla). Sadly , the Ice Cream Machine's website no longer offers the nutritional guide or list of ingredients used in its flavors for one to check. Yet, I do know their ice cream pies sold in markets have it. The Ice cream Machine offers a wide variety of flavors served by a friendly staff. The giant homemade waffle cones taste great. Unlike me you may not notice or be bother by the ice cream's texture especially if consumed by the licks in cones and not by the spoon. Likewise, taste may matter over substance for many. For me I have found other brands with fewer additives for the same or less money.

This is superior homemade ice cream, second in Rhode Island only to Gray's in Tiverton. I was only a three star fan for years until yesterday when I got: Coffee Oreo - thick cookie pieces encased in the delicate java creamery...tasty stuff! Why no Rocky Road on the menu, guys? I've had shakes here too that are pretty good. I keep forgetting to try the rasp. lime rickey.... Line mechanics are dicey here; some Cranston-esque middle-aged prick cut in front and, when faced with the glare from others in line, said "Dere's FAWR winduhs and FAWR lines!" and I thought, "No, pal, there's four windows and ONE FUCKING LINE." But there's no brawling allowed in the ice cream line, and besides, the scoopers are usually nice and quick. Prices are reasonable relative to the abundant scoop size. I do, however, miss the days when you could get a $2 come at ice cream places. Parking, as others have said, is awful in the immediate lot, park at Diamond Hill and be careful crossing the street!

    (4)
  • Scott C.

One of my biggest downfalls is Ice Cream. I can eat ice cream any day of the week regardless of the weather. Needless to say Ice Cream Machine is one of the best places in Rhode Island to come for ice cream. They have a very extensive list of every day ice cream flavors plus a variety of seasonal flavors to choose from. Best of all the portions are huge, I normally just get a kiddie and that is enough for me.

    (4)
  • Lisa N.

Went on a recent trip and the ice cream is still just as good. Lots of flavors to choose from and huge portions make for a packed place on a weekend night, but don't worry the lines move rather quickly. The blueberry ice cream they have this year is fantastic, nice and creamy, and bursting with blueberry flavor. Portions are still giant, I had to take home half of my small which I stashed in the freezer to eat the next day. My 8 year old nephew had trouble even finishing his kid size cone!

  • rose n.

Amazing ice cream! I've been going here forever. It's not as cheap as buying ice cream at the store but they make their own in tons of flavors. It's good that they are right across from Diamond Hill because they need more parking for the huge crowds. The line moves fast and the servers are good. This is my favorite ice cream place ever! You can get two flavors in a small (which is perfect because I'm indecisive) and a small is all I can eat. I had chocolate peanut butter cup yogurt and cookie dough ice cream. Any size above small has waaaayy too much ice cream unless you're a big dude (and my boyfriend is a big dude who can't finish a large here). I always get the kiddie when I get a sundae because they don't skimp. The flavor list is huge but I tend to stick with what I like. There is something for everyone as well as new flavors coming in each season. They have awesome raspberry lime rickey's too! You can get frappes with any flavor ice cream (my brother had German chocolate and caramel) and they blend it all down.

  • Rene L.

Went two weeks ago. Had not been in years, should have kept those memories. Yes, the lines of customers are still there, yes they offer many flavors. But pricey and poor quality ice cream....nearly fushia strawberry that tasted off.

    (2)
  • Ben B.

Best ice cream around! I had a craving for some cotton candy ice cream the other day and you just can't get that at the store. I decided that is take my son and some friends up to the ice cream machine for a great summer tradition. The servings are big, the prices are reasonable, the flavor list is long, and the taste is excellent. The lines can get long in the summer but its worth the short wait as the staff is quick and friendly. I recommend that everyone try out this hidden gem in Cumberland.

    (5)
  • Jay E.

We stopped at the Ice Cream Machine after picking apples - it was well worth the stop! The ice cream is fresh and creamy, not freezer burned like a lot of other places in RI. We tried pumpkin and brownie, the pumpkin tasted like fresh pumpkin pie and the brownie tasted almost like cookie dough but was tasty. Expensive but so aren't the other ice cream joints in RI! Highly Recommend.

    (4)
  • Jessie C.

YES! I've been DYING to try this place - I drive by all the time and I finally made it. YUM! Key Lime Ice Cream was very very tasty. The lines get long but it's worth it. I like that there is a little park across the street as well. I'd recommend parking there instead of the main lot. Easier in and out access. :-)

    (4)
  • Holly L.

Lots to choose from the sherbet is great but way to over priced. It can get really packed in the summer with not enough places to sit, thank goodness there is a "park" across the street with out that they just might be out of luck.

    (3)
  • Mike T.

Not a bad place to grab some ice cream. They have plenty of flavors and almost anyone should find something enjoyable. It would be a good idea to come here BEFORE you actually decide you WANT ice cream since you will be waiting forever to be served. As with most "dairy barns", sanitation is questionable, what with the abundance of insects and a random cat jumping onto the counter we were ordering from and hopping inside the window... maybe it belongs to the owners who apparently live in the attached home. I got the coffee oreo hot fudge sundae. It was pretty good. Nothing spectacular but the coffee flavor seemed pretty genuine. I will definitely return and try something else, but I will probably end up at Crescent Ridge in Sharon MA at least a couple of times in the meantime... They are still my favorite.

    (3)
  • B J.

Made the trek to RI for some different ice cream than the usual spots around us. The ICM had some really interesting specialized flavors. I tried the Key Lime Pie. It was ok, the gram crackers mixed in were a nice touch, but the ice cream just lacked any real flavor. For four of us getting smalls was almost $20, so it's on the pricey side for a treat. We sat on the pick nick tables in the lot. They should consider hosing them down on busy nights as the bugs were attracted to the spills from previous guests. I will go back to the Black Cow in Millis, MA, or Spruce Pond Creamery in Franklin, MA before we return to RI.

  • Christine P.

Seriously, I would travel to the Ice Cream Machine any day of the week to have their ice cream. It's seriously the bomb! My high school job was in a small, local ice cream shoppe where we made homemade ice cream. Because of this, my standards are very, very high when it comes to ice cream. I mean, all ice cream has merit and a place in my world, but The Ice Cream Machine is on a different level. This is gourmet ice cream and really worth your efforts. Sure you may have to travel a bit, wait in a line, and pay a fair amount of money but the product you get back is creamy and delicious. I've never had better!

    (5)
  • Kristen M.

It's not summer unless you go to the Ice Cream Machine honestly. So many flavors and I've never tried one that wasn't good. Portions are absolutely huge so even a small is hard to finish I think. I recommend the brownie sundae if you're feeling like going into an ice cream coma. Prepare yourself for looong lines if you go at night in the summer-- pretty much any day of the week, but obviously more so on the weekend. BUT it is worth it and if its nice out whatever whats the rush? Also the parking isn't awesome-- you mostly have to park across the street so just be careful crossing it can busy.

One of the best ice cream places in New England, up there with Lizzy's and Tosconini's. Better than Kimball's or Richardson's. Only complaints are city prices and mosquitoes.

    (5)
  • Jarrod I.

This place is my ultimate favorite Ice cream stand and the service is excellent!!! Try the rum raisin, ginger or if you want simple thier butter crunch. I love this place. Be prepared to wait but its so worth it! homemade. Grab a picnic table and enjoy!

    (5)
  • Ashley H.

So many flavors to choose from! Be warned it can get really packed at night and there is a lot of bumping and jostling trying to see the board with all of the flavors. The portions for cones and sundaes are VERY generous and there are many toppings to choose from. The peppermint stick is excellent with pieces of candy cane and gooey peppermint all throughout. My boyfriend swears by their black raspberry and their homemade ice cream cakes are great as well.

    (5)
  • David C.

Very good New England ice cream. Probably not as good as Gray's but that would be splitting hairs. The portions are huge.

    (4)
  • Amanda J.

I love this place! It's a little out of the way for me these days but I loved when my parents took me here as a kid. They have quite the flavor list and usually one or two unusual tastes on there which I love. Probably one of the best chocolate frappes around, nice and thick, you either need a spoon or you have to give it a little time to melt but that is exactly how I love them. No frills here, but excellent service and I always, always leave happy!

  • Dave M.

This is one of the best palces to cool off on a hot summer day with their great ice cream treats.

    (4)
  • Leigh C.

We love the Ice Cream Machine! Our favorites are Coffee Oreo, Raspberry Truffle and Smores....even the sorbet is refreshing and delicious! They make all of the ice cream on premise. It's worth the trip...on any day! Enjoy:)

    (5)
  • Ron G.

As good as it gets! The variety of flavors and quality of the ice cream is unparalelled.

    (5)
  • Karen K.

It's okay. Kinda expensive. We always get kiddie sizes and it still seems steep. We have been many times and haven't found a favorite flavor- but lots that we wouldn't get again. Huge list, descriptions would be nice if they were posted instead of asking the girls at the counter. They will give you a sample taste if there is one you would like to try. The lines can get insane- and can be very slow!

    (3)
  • Lexie L.

This is the best place for ice cream in town. Nothing beats chatting with friends and anticipating the yummy goodness to come while waiting in their super long line on a summer evening (seriously). They have a huge list of flavors to choose from.

This place has a real hometown feel. Lots of interesting flavors, surrounded by happy people. Quirky things like the resident cat who walks around on the roof, jumps down for kids to pet, and then jumps through the window into the shop... nobody working there even bothers to glance at that cat. Its a fixture of the place.

Love the Ice Cream Machine , great place to go on a hot summer day and grab an ice cream with friends. The prices are pretty fare for the lack of any other ice cream places close by other than the local DQ. The selection of ice creams are great and anyone can find something they like. The parking-lot is kind of small but Diamond hill park across the street makes it great to park and walk around the park area or you can sit at the picnic tables right on the grounds. The staff is teenagers either home from college or in-between high-school years and are always friendly and willing to make you an ice cream how ever you want it

Here's a sign that you have it bad for the Ice Cream Machine: you go to work, realize that you haven't had it in a while and make lunch plans to go there and have a sundae. A large sundae. With all the fixings. The ice cream here is so good. Their flavors are pretty standard but have some interesting ones as well. While you won't find the "mix-ins" that other chains provide, the ICM doesn't need them because their base flavors are so good. Must stop on a nice warm (or cold), summer (or fall, spring, winter) day.

I live in Boston. As such, I am supposed to sing the praises of J.P. Licks or Herrell's. However, I am a dyed in the wool Rhode Islander and was raised in the Blackstone Valley, and as such there is no ice cream stand that will ever hold a place in my heart quite like the Ice Cream Machine does. The ice cream is homemade and very very tasty, and you can't beat the flavor selection. I especially recommend fruity flavors like peach, lemon, or coconut - no one does it better! Sundaes are fantastic with real hot fudge and SO SO cheap!!! But really one of the best parts about coming here is the people watching. Little League teams, gaggles of little old ladies, and teenagers on a first date all come to the Ice Cream Machine, and for good reason. Portions are gargantuan, so share with a friend or get a kiddie size.

When I want something decadent and don't mind standing in line I love getting Ice Cream from the Ice Cream Machine. This place is usually hopping with tons of people but the staff is very quick and they can handle pretty much anything. I love the taste of the ice cream and the variety of flavors. Even sitting on the picnic tables and using the tiny napkins it fun because it reminds me of ice cream as a kid and if a food can take you back to a much simpler time in your life then it is great.

  • Ellen M.

HUGE portions of yummy ice cream. They offer a good amount of unique flavors as well as the more traditional ones. Sundaes, banana splits, ice cream pies, and a few different doggie treats are also on the menu. It is usually pretty crowded but the lines move fast and with Diamond Hill park right across the street, there is always somewhere to sit and enjoy your treat.

  • Kristen P.

This place is amazing!!! Been going here since I was a wee tot, and it's by far the best service and best home-made ice cream I've ever had... All should try it!

One of the best Ice Creams I've ever had. So many flavor choices to choose from. The coffee oreo is definitely a favorite in our house!

  • Amy D.

the best hidden gem in Rhode Island. by far one of the best home made ice cream places I have ever been to. chocolate walnut is my absolute favorite and there is no place locally that sells that flavor. having it homemade is just an added bonus. the servings are plentiful, just wish it wasn't so far from my home!

  • Syed R.

Ice cream machine, or ICM is one of the hidden gems tucked away in the corner of Cumberland, Rhode Island. With hefty scoops and tons of options, the flavor has never disappointed. My favorite is mint chocolate chip - classic yet perfected.

  • Meriam T.

The sea salt caramel frozen yogurt may have changed my life for the better, but I will definitely be getting a kiddie next time!

  • Todd M.

  • Alicia K.

  • David H.

    (4)
  • Jem A.

Yuck!!!

Very good New England ice cream. Probably not as good as Gray's but that would be splitting hairs. The portions are huge.

This place is my ultimate favorite Ice cream stand and the service is excellent!!! Try the rum raisin, ginger or if you want simple thier butter crunch. I love this place. Be prepared to wait but its so worth it! homemade. Grab a picnic table and enjoy!

Ahh.. out of our typical network of local ice cream establishments, the Ice Cream Machine is a worthwhile trip.

  • Gregory M.

Landmark going strong. Flavors, flavors, and more flavors. Have been so successful I believe they are open year round. Grab a cone and stroll in the state park across the street. Sometimes the lines are long but that usually means only positive things.

There's plenty of parking and tables to sit at outside. There is also a park across the street to walk off all those calories you just consumed. Cash or check only but there is an ATM machine there if you need one.

really good chocolate, smores, apple, egg nog, frozen rum pudding, chocolate fudge oreo, mint oreo, and red velvet ice creams, and awesome waffle cones.

Went two weeks ago. Had not been in years, should have kept those memories. Yes, the lines of customers are still there, yes they offer many flavors. But pricey and poor quality ice cream....nearly fushia strawberry that tasted off.

But wait, they have fat free and low fat options too!

the best hidden gem in Rhode Island. by far one of the best home made ice cream places I have ever been to. chocolate walnut is my absolute favorite and there is no place locally that sells that flavor. having it homemade is just an added bonus. the servings are plentiful, just wish it wasn't so far from my home!

Ice cream machine, or ICM is one of the hidden gems tucked away in the corner of Cumberland, Rhode Island. With hefty scoops and tons of options, the flavor has never disappointed. My favorite is mint chocolate chip - classic yet perfected.

If you haven't been here yet, you need to go. Ice cream is great, home made and just delicious. There are so many flavors to chose from so be prepared to want to try them all. Ive also tried the frozen yogurt...impressive!

Went here today. The ice cream is good. The prices aren't bad. We got 2 hot fudge sundaes & a cup of frozen yogurt for 10 bucks. The one thing i don't like and the reason i gave 4 instead of 5 stars is the parking. It's crazy there.

Yuck!!!

Ahh.. out of our typical network of local ice cream establishments, the Ice Cream Machine is a worthwhile trip.

YES! I've been DYING to try this place - I drive by all the time and I finally made it. YUM! Key Lime Ice Cream was very very tasty. The lines get long but it's worth it. I like that there is a little park across the street as well. I'd recommend parking there instead of the main lot. Easier in and out access. :-)

  • Holly L.

Lots to choose from the sherbet is great but way to over priced. It can get really packed in the summer with not enough places to sit, thank goodness there is a "park" across the street with out that they just might be out of luck.

    (3)

Landmark going strong. Flavors, flavors, and more flavors. Have been so successful I believe they are open year round. Grab a cone and stroll in the state park across the street. Sometimes the lines are long but that usually means only positive things.

Great homemade ice cream! Dozens of favors including sherbet, yogurt and no sugar added. They also make some really yummy cream cakes for take out

We love the Ice Cream Machine! Our favorites are Coffee Oreo, Raspberry Truffle and Smores....even the sorbet is refreshing and delicious! They make all of the ice cream on premise. It's worth the trip...on any day! Enjoy:)

As good as it gets! The variety of flavors and quality of the ice cream is unparalelled.

This is one of the best palces to cool off on a hot summer day with their great ice cream treats.

Very good New England ice cream. Probably not as good as Gray's but that would be splitting hairs. The portions are huge.
