Great little authentic Vietnamese restaurant. Very simple casual interior with booth & large table seating. There are two dining areas with Flat screen tv's in each room. I ordered the Vietnamese Coffee. It was very good & it came with shaved ice which I LIV! (I actually had 2 bc I was pretty tired from the week). I decided to try the Crispy Chicken wings. These were hot out of the Kitchen too & delicious. Perfectly crispy & flavorful. It comes with this pineapple apple sauce dipping sauce. I also ordered the Grilled Pork Chops with Fried Rice. (Same order from the other day at 4 Seasons LOL). It was again, hot & fresh from the Kitchen. Perfectly grilled with a fish sauce marinade. Fried Rice was simple but also great. This place to me is more of an real authentic Vietnamese restaurant bc the interior & vibe is much more casual. The Wait Staff were nice, friendly, fast, & efficient. DEFINITELY RECOMMENDED : ) ENJOY!

I am a bit bias. I enjoy almost all Pho. The broth was very tasty but there wasn't much meat. The interior could use some heavy duty elbow grease. The waiter was super nice and it's fairly inexpensive. I'd come back but it wouldn't be my first choice.

I come here almost every Saturday with my 2 daughters. Love the beef combo noodle soup with extra noodle on the side. The waitress always nice too us, great food, affordable price. If you're looking for a good noodle soup you should try Hon's.

Went there for some Pho (Vietnamese noodle soup). I got the one with pork and seafood. It was excellent. About $9 for a large bowl and it was filling. We also got the crepe appetizer and it was wonderful..These sizzling, chewy, crispy Vietnamese crêpes are made from rice flour, coconut milk, and turmeric - which gives them that brilliant yellow color. Service was attentive and friendly. Nice parking area on the side of the restaurant makes this place a convenient, inexpensive meal spot.

One of my only go-to restaurants!!! My wife and I always go here. If we don't know what we want to eat (when eating out) our solution is to always go to Hon's. The food is always consistent and never tastes different. We have never been disappointed. The staff is super friendly and nice. The food is amazing. I highly suggest the Chicken Pho or Pork Chop Dinner. Hon's has definitely become our favorite restaurant.

I could have sworn I already posted a review for Hon's, but I guess I was wrong. The good thing is, I can now review after testing through almost all of the other pho joints around. The amount of food for short money is insane. The XL bowl here by far blows the others out of the water. Now that my palate has adjusted to the Pho flavor, when I want straight Pho, this is my spot. Service is always spot on. The Thai iced tea is great, and I always leave full. Having been back several times now both my family and I have fried several things off the menu, and all were great. The Vietnamese style steak teriyaki is super tender and flavorful. Beef teriyaki is standard (but you get more of it than the steak). Scallion pancakes and dumplings are great. I always go with the pho but my wife has ventured out to a pork and rice dish that was very tasty. Their bubble tea is nice and fresh and they are generous with chili paste and hot oil upon request. It's clean, friendly , close to home, and unmatched value. I will no doubt continue to visit other spots into travel, but when I get a craving, I'll be back again and again.

Nothing truly extraordinary about the spring rolls and pho (I had the eye round..). However, the Vietnamese community was eating here which is always a good sign. Solid reliable place and great price in a pretty tired looking 1970s wellworn timewarp suburb of Providence. Rhode Island is such an odd duck state...Cranston is a delightfully kooky semi dumpy seemingly full of Brooklynesque rejects...

So. Good. Best noodle bowl in the area, by FAR. Also try the Thai iced tea. Casual, clean, authentic cuisine. Always good service. Have a TV and bar as well. Great lunch spot.

I found myself here on a chilly Tuesday night getting pho take-out because my go-to pho place is closed on Tuesdays. Thought it would be a great op to check out what this place had to offer. After reading positive reviews on their pho, I was looking forward to it. I ordered the XL combo pho with all the beef tidbits (tendon, tripe, tendon and rare beef), beef on a stick, their fresh spring rolls and an order of avocado bubble tea. All to go. The run down: Beef on a stick...jerky-like beef with a lightly sticky glaze that had good flavor..but super tough texture. Not really enjoyable when you go to take a bite and the whole stick of beef wants to come with it... Fresh spring roll...shredded iceberg lettuce, a bit of basil and shrimp in a tender spring roll wrapper. Everything was fresh but close to zero flavor...all I really tasted was the basil. The avocado bubble didn't even leave the parking lot. It tasted of sour milk. Blech. Brought it back in and they let me swap it out for a coconut soda... The pho...the upside? A generous portion of meat came in the to-go container along with perfectly prepared noodles and condiments. The broth left A LOT to be desired. The predominant flavor was salt...so much so that I had to cut it with water when I reheated it at home. It lacked the aromatic goodness and spiced, exotic flavors that I associate with quality pho dishes I've had. I didn't even finish the broth. Waking up this morning with that bloated, "yuck-post-Asian-meal" feeling kinda seals the deal for me. I was so hoping for a better experience, but I won't be going back.

We went here for the first time tonight. My husband and I both had a Pho Noodle Soup which were both loaded with delicious flavor and tender meats. One of my boys had a wonton noodle soup which was rather boring - not too much flavor, but in all fairness, I suppose that's a rather basic soup to begin with. My other son enjoyed a Cambodian noodle dish - very tasty but the noodle was a little mushy for my taste. We enjoyed the fresh spring rolls as well... Good, but no mint for the freshness I was expecting. The service was excellent - our waiter offered recommendations and was very accommodating. The cleanliness was questionable but not bad enough to stop us from going back again for another big bowl of delicious pho noodle soup!

Really good soup. American style friendly service and they speak English too. Restaurant very clean and inviting.

  • Kristine R.

So the food isn't particularly spectacular, but it's cheap, huge and tasty. So you can count on getting your fill. I haven't tried their Pho, that they are well known for. But I can count on their large pork chops with white rice. Their bubble tea is pretty decent too. It's not the best, but is definitely made well enough that you don't have the weird powdered aftertaste, like other affordable Asian restaurants.

Having this be my first "Pho experience" with Pho enthusiast Doug C, I have no other comparison. I tend to be a slightly picky eater, not veering to far away from American cuisine but I gave in and gave Hon's a try. The portion side was mind-blowing, the XL bowl is HUGE. Everything tasted great and fresh. The Thai iced tea was also amazing!

This restaurant used to be traditional vietnamese Pho noodle soup but, now everything has changed the soup taste not even close like before.

Love this place!!! Came here about 2 years ago but recently it's delicious. Everything on the menu, especially pho and teriyaki! Worth a try!

This is a great place to take a group. They have large round table with a large lazy susan in the middle for ease of service. I tend to get the same thing, the Hon's fried rice. It is heavenly. I will try the pho and the vietnamese coffee the next time I visit thanks to the other reviews. The service is a bit slow, but the staff are very friendly and accomodating. The price is very good also, and the portions are generous.

This is now the third spot I've gone to try pho. I'm certainly still a pho novice but Pho Hon is my new favorite. I had told my old college roommate about my pho quest a couple of months back, and he's taken up the cause and offered a couple of choices in Cranston for a quick birthday pho treat for me. We settled on Pho Hon and off to Cranston I went. The waitress was super friendly and very attentive. We started off with the goi cuon, which I've done at each of the pho places so far. This is the first place I've found that actually calls the dish by it's true name. They were very tasty and came with the same thicker peanut sauce that I became used to on the west coast. I still prefer the nim chow sauce from the original Galaxie or Apsera back in the 90's, but this thicker sauce seems to be what the dish actually calls for and I do like it. I had the rare steak and brisket pho which was outstanding. The broth here was hands down the best of my limited pho history. The meat was both lean and tender, as well as plentiful. The noodles were also plentiful and cooked perfectly. The plate of basil, hot peppers, lime and sprouts was overflowing and fresh. This was the first time that I didn't add any hot sauce to my broth. The beef flavor was fantastic and I felt no need to spice it up. I'm still on the lookout for more pho restaurants, but I have a feeling that Pho Hon is a place I will be back to again - and frequently during the cold winter.

I was really skeptical when I was first brought here because it looks like a total dive. Do not let that deter you. This place is great. All I've ever gotten is pho because it's too good not to get. Portions are huge, and inexpensive. Got the wings as an appetizer once and they were great, not greasy like a lot of places, just fried to perfection. I've tried the iced coffee and bubble tea and enjoyed both. Boyfriend and I drive all the way from Westerly to Cranston to eat here and it's completely worth it.

The best Pho in Rhode Island. I love Hons, I have eaten there many times. I wrote this review purely to contradict the person (Dolores) who said they it wasn't authentic Vietnamese food. This is the most authentic, and the best pho that I have ever had. I guess I'm not a fancy west coaster like you who knows everything about asian food (way to just say asian and not specifically vietnamese you racist) but in all of my Pho experiences in Rhode Island and the east coast, which include most of the top listed Pho restaurants in Rhode Island monthly this is the best Pho. The service is also very friendly, and anything else on the menu is very good. If you're not in the mood for Pho I suggest you try the Kim-chi fried rice for a nice fusion of flavors. And for an appetizer definitely get the quail, you will have to wait a few extra minutes but it is definitely worth it. More insults to Dolores: Who doesn't like a restaurant because they had to give up their leftovers so their friends can eat them? If you didn't like it why would you want to take it home anyway?

This place is good. Much cleaner than Pho Paradise in Providence. Nothing spectacular but I really have nothing bad to say. It was a nice lunch. Decent.

So i went there when no one was around, but if ur picky about service and stuff, it's not so good. also if you really like vietnamese food, this might not be up to your standards in portion and in authenticity.. BUT i do admit that the pho noodles were good. we actually got an extra bowl. It's an exotic experience. i had fun eating there, but yeah... service could be better. tables were dirty and our water wasnt refilled, but if you're not picky, it should be ok. the food was good just there wasnt a lot to fill the people i was with. i had to order extra stuff

I was just at this place last Thursday for a quick lunch with a friend, I have been a customer for the past three years. The food is good. The tables are big and they greet you right away. The only thing i noticed was that i don't usually use the bathroom, but this time i did, and the bathroom is just not clean and it does not reflect good on you. . Also there was a strange smell i think it is coming from the carpet or something but it was not pleasant. Please keep your bathrooms spotless and carpet clean. Avoid becoming another Uncle Sushi...because if your bathrooms aren't clean and there is a strange odor coming from the carpet one has to to think how the kitchen is run.

This is a fine Viet restaurant. What I like about them is that their Pho comes in at least three different sizes. The price is moderate and they also have lunch specials. They are open Fridays and Saturdays until 10:30 PM so you can eat quite late if you are like me. They also have the roll-your-own at the table with choices of meat. This is a nice place to eat at, and the service isn't as bad as some people say.

Tried the pho here and a noodle dish. Yeah, I won't be returning. The pho broth was pretty gross. It was just chicken stock and it's just not tasty and it's actually not even reminiscent of pho that I've had across the country. The noodle dish had the type of noodles where they're hollow in the middle. Won't be trying again.

If you live in the Providence area, and you DON'T know about this place then you need to eat here, asap! You don't know what you are missing! I love their pho particularly. I get the steak and tripe, then add lots of bean sprouts! I can't get enough of this place! It's also really cheap. $20 for two MASSIVE bowls of deliciousness and drinks! What more could you want?

Maybe it was the ambiance, or the lack of ambiance, that made the food taste good but not as great as it could've been. The pho broth itself is yummy, but as one of my friends had pointed out, the noodles seemed like they were taken straight out of the refrigerator and put into the broth. Okay... so maybe a lot of places do that, but I'm not a fan of that. I like that fresh chewy texture! That's my favorite :) The waiter was a bit... how can I explain this... "Hi. What do you want to order? Okay. Yep. Okay," AKA doing the "bare minimum." The place itself is not that appealing, but the beef broth somewhat makes up for it.

My wife and I went for lunch yesterday. I had Pho and crab rangoon. I LOVED them both. The "Spring roll' that came with the lunch special was more like a summer roll (Uncooked stuffed rice paper) but was still great and the peanut sauce it came with was great. Don't go for decor, but you should go for the authentic asian soup and to try different things. My wife ordered the vegetarian Pho with tofu. She doesn't like tofu so she left the tofu alone she just wanted to try it again. She said he broth was very bland, kind of watery and her stir fry veggies had a sauce with great flavor bet the consistency was a little slimy. We did take all the leftovers home and she will "Doctor" her soup at home to add a bit of flavor and she will eat the veggies as they were crisp and tasted good but again the cosistency was a little slimy. (not as bad as okra but on that idea) My experience was better than my wives. We will go back for take-out for me. She would go again if they had more vegetarian choices for her and she could try something else. The mango bubble tea was also awesome. 4 stars because my wife didn't like it as much as I did and they need more vegetarian options.. If you want good PHO this is the place. I have only been to one other and this is better.

Mmm pho! This is definitely one of the better pho places I've tried in the area. The price is a little on the high end for pho but still okay (about 6-8 dollars). They had three sizes to choose from so you don't get stuck with a mondo bowl of hypertension, which I appreciated. They have a fairly large menu (don't you worry KFC fans they still serve fried chicken). The decor/atmosphere is minimal (though not for lack of trying with the numerous bamboo plants etc scattered about). Service is also not spectacular... I'm just happy to find a pho place in RI that actually serves something that resembles pho.

    (4)
  • Thommee H.

We used to come here a lot, but since the change in ownership, the quality of the Pho unfortunately has gone down a lot. It used to be very good.... There are better places in RI...

  • Nicole R.

Broth is ok. Portions are pretty big. Sadly there doesn't seem to be a consistent product. I guess it depends on who's working in the kitchen for the day. Decent food if you're in a pinch.

I love their vermicelli bun with pork- it is always perfectly grilled and dripping with juice. I really enjoy their appetizers and Vietnamese drink menu too. It's never crowded but I always see lots of Asian families in here, so I figure they know what's up. Whenever I'm in the area I drop by.

Yummy quail. Great spicy beef lemon grass soup. Vietnamese hot and sour, yuck. Pad Thai.. Not really pad Thai just sugar and lime juice. Traditional pho noodle soups are tasty. Waitresses are always attentive.

It's definitely been a long while since I've eaten here and for good reason. The food is average at best and remarkable, but not in a positive way. The quality and taste of the dishes I've tried here were not great, not good, and, actually made me cringe a bit. The reason I ate here is because it was a compromise when dining out with friends. Sometimes we ate at a place that I loved and other times we ate at places that my friends loved -- and, for me, I felt no love for this eatery. I will say that the friends who really dug this restaurant didn't have developed palates for Asian cuisine -- not by a long-shot. I've had the pleasure of eating really wonderful Asian noodle dishes when I formerly resided in Los Angeles, so, perhaps, my standard of delicious pho is set high in stark contrast to the average RI diner. Comparatively, there is not a vast amount of Asians in RI vs. the amount found in Los Angeles, so, I imagine that Asian cuisine here in RI is geared mostly toward non-Asian customers -- or, those who prefer "Americanized" versions of ethnic cuisine. What immediately comes to mind is the chop suey sandwich, which is actually a New England concoction and not remotely related to any authentic Asian dish in existence. Following are the reasons that I am not a fan of this restaurant: I did not like the taste of their broths and agree with another reviewer who didn't like them either. The food was greasy and I cannot stand greasy food. The service is hit or miss, but, mostly miss in my experience. I love leftovers and I never brought home leftovers from this restaurant and instead gave up my share to friends who love this place. When it comes to Asian food, I demand authenticity and will settle for nothing less. I grew up on Asian food and have a developed, refined palate for it. For those like me who desire fresh authentic Asian cuisine, skip this place entirely and try Thai Orchid on Park Ave. in Cranston or Silver Crystal in West Warwick on Cowesett. I have yet to write reviews for them but will eventually get there.

Not the best place for pho... I use to love this place when it was under different management. Now the flavors and food just isn't the same. They're so cheap with sauces, some sauces even seem watered down. The Quality just isn't the same. ..

I love this place! So simple, so unpretentious, so addictive. I've tried a few of the appetizers and they've all been good, the shakes are yummy and the Vietnamese coffee rocks but I LIVE for the Pho! I can't seem to veer from the Dac Beit so I can't comment on any of the other varieties but this simple dish fills my senses and invades my dreams! It's great when you're hungover or sick too. The service is friendly and to the point and they don't bug you every five minutes which I rather appreciate. The decor is straight circa 1992 and it's far from romantic or cozy but you can go in there and not give a rats ass about anyone or anything. The food is great and the price is right. I'm hooked.

I wouldn't consider myself an expert on the attributes of authentic pho, but whatever they serve is delicious. I've gotten pho here a bunch of times and I have never had a complaint. I usually go with the rare steak and meatball and it always hits the spot. Throw on a side of crab rangoons and I am one happy girl. Tip- the Vietnamese coffee is DELIGHTFUL.

Very disappointed. I ordered the Bun vermicelli with choice of meat (chicken, beef or pork) with shrimp. I asked to be served a combo of the meat options with the shrimp. I was told no problem, I could have that for an extra charge (which I had anticipated). Then, my server returns to the table to tell me that what I had asked for is not possible. That I would have to choose one meat I wanted in my dish, and that would be what I got. I said, no problem, just give me beef with the shrimp and that will be fine. When my meal comes to the table, there is only beef in the dish. No shrimp. It looked delicious and smelled good as well, but I requested that the shrimp that I had ordered to be added to my dish. The server said that I would have to order an appetizer of shrimp to be added to my dish. At this point I was feeling pretty disappointed, but I said thats fine. Whatever you have to do. I ate the beef vermicelli which was delicious and then my server brought the "shrimp" appetizer which she said that she would pay for it because it was her mistake. I have no idea what that shrimp appetizer was, but it looked and tasted nothing like shrimp at all. This isn't my first time ordering food in a Vietnamese restaurant, and I typically order the very same thing regardless of which Vietnamese restaurant I am going to, but somehow apparently what I wanted was not able to get across to the server. I would be very hesitant to give this place another try, the only redeeming quality of this place was that the food tasted good. Except for the "shrimp" appetizer. That was just strange.

The place is dirty (and unlike some reviewers I don't find this charming or adding to its 'authenticity' whatever that means). Yes, most pho places are a bit grimy, but this went beyond the norm and was almost enough to cause me to turn around and leave (which I wish I had). The pho was edible but barely -- I had a large flank, brisket, and tendon bowl. There was almost no meat, the noodles were overcooked and gummy, and I could almost see myself in the oil globules floating in the broth. What I thought were pieces of tendon were actually big pieces of fat (I presume the chef also thought these were tendons when putting them into my soup -- they were so big so this was an almost acceptable mistake). My companion had the curry chicken soup which was really awful -- i mean, she took a risk with that, but it really surpassed whatever low expectations we had. The chicken was sinewy and tough, and the curry broth was just horrid -- the first bite was barely palatable and it went downhill from there. We shared some beef satay skewers which were burnt, and really tough -- just a waste of money really. Finally, our iced coffees were massively disappointing. Most Vietnamese places bring those little drip things over and the only way they can sort of disappoint is if the coffee is reused or of questionable provenance, but here, they managed to actually make it bad. They came to the table already "brewed", aka I would bet my house that they used instant coffee. I am from a city with a big Vietnamese population so am slightly spoiled pho-wise, but this place is just the pits. I thought that other pho place was just OK (Ming hai or something), but this is a joke. If people suggest eating here, take their other recommendations with a micro-grain of salt.

Hon's has it all but the pho (soup) is the best in RI. vegans there is pho for you with vegtable broth. its all the real deal and at a good price.

  • Alma C.

What I look for in really good pho is a full-flavored clear broth made from stock that has been cooked for hours and hours. The stock for the pho here tastes thin like it was made from one of those generic $2 bags of pho spice you can buy at any Asian shop. I've found better pho not too far away.

This is a soup house. It's bare bones catering to the basic asian soup lover. When I say that, I keep in mind NOT what Americans are used to but what you'll find on most side streets in Asian countries: a simple soup house. They don't focus on decoration or ambiance (can't believe someone mentioned that in their review for a soup house! UGH), they focus on broth, broth, broth and soup! You should read the Urban Spoon for ratings from more sophisticated palettes. They also have some other asian dishes which are great. The lowdown from someone whose been around? If' you're hankering for some excellent versions (and there are a few) of soups, this will satisfy that craving and more. I felt like I was back in everyday, casual asian culture with the food. More importantly, you'll see mostly asian customers: that says a lot! If I see a bunch of fat Americans (try most cheezy Chinese restaurants), I know the food stinks. It has to be plained down to eat it. I see a bunch of discriminating Asians, I see the food will be traditional tasting and likely, outstanding. That was exactly what I experienced. My friend who never experienced a soup house, loved it too. That's the only place I get down on my pho---PHOreal! If you know the difference, do treat yourself...you generally don't find these places in such small towns like Cranston or even Rhode island for that matter. Don't go for the "ambience" go for a clean table, chair, some tv shows on the ceiling tv and excellent traditional Asian soups. No it's not dirty, it's just not flashy.

It took me a while, but I finally figured out that HONS stands for H(ouse) O(f) N(oodle) S(oup). Boy, was I relieved! Hon filled that very special niche in my heart and stomach for tasty, hot, delicious pho. Their broth is fragrant and you can taste the roasted meat bones. Excellent prices. The bun (cold noodle salad) is also excellent. Service.... well, you don't come here for the service. Maybe it's just that I have been there dozens of times, but HONS feels like home.

the pho here is very good - right up there with the best I've had. if you're sitting around thinking, "man i wish i had some pho, but i dunno about that sketchy looking joint with the falling down blinds in the window", then stop worrying. the pho delivers. don't hesitate. this should be your primary reason for visiting HON's. i mean unless you like restaurants that desperately need a coat of paint and are frequently out of other items that are on the menu. every time i take some wise-ass here and they don't get the pho, they end up jealous. forewarned. one last thing: this seems to be one of the last places that serves crushed ice in their drinks. like the kind that forms into a block and takes up half of the glass. this makes a coke taste ridiculously good for some reason. make sure to take advantage. oh, and try not to get killed taking a left back onto reservoir ave whilst blinded by vehicles parked on the street.

Very delicious food, the usualy outdated seventies interior, ignoring that because the food is great, service is fast and it is a hit for lunch time if you can get there.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
