This place is very hit or miss. I've been several times and been blown away and at other times I swear I'll never be back. If I were to guess id say they've had trouble keeping a chef. That being said, the raw bar is always good, the drinks are stiff and several of the standard menu items (pizzas, burger, clams and linguini) are consistent enough to get 3 stars.

Just went for take out wait was super longer than quoted. Said 40 minutes it's been 70 minutes still no food. Did not offer to buy a drink bought one myself and two other people ahead have been waiting forever and are ticked off. This place has always had a problem with having its act together. Organization is still lacking after 4 years. I would have expected they would have gotten it together by now. Hire a real restaurant manager even if just for the summer. Sad the food is good. If you have time and do not care eat here if you do not want a 4 hour dinner go somewhere else. Fish tacos are very good.

We went tonight after an evening at the beach. Short 10 minute wait to eat on the patio, which is nicely done. They also text you when your table is up, kinda neat. Anyways, the drink prices were a bit steep, 12 bucks for a martini and 10 for any cocktails on the drink list....hard pressed to find a glass of wine under $8, beer prices were okay though (between 4 and 8 bucks). We had calamari for an appetizer, nicely fried and not greasy, though missing something. I had a side salad and seafood stuffed portabella, which was very good, though could have used ?something. He had the blue moon burger, which he very much enjoyed (totally not my style), though there was a hair in the coleslaw, which brings me to the service. Service was prompt, and though our waitress seemed very young, and green, she did a good job. She promptly removed the offending coleslaw and offered us a beer on the house, which we respectfully declined as we had a little one with us and a decent ride home. And she did offer to bring my son out some oyster crackers to occupy him. That was the last we heard of the hairy slaw. I was hoping she would have comped us sowmthing....a beer we already had on the check, even my salald, anything, but I guess we didn't really put up a bitch either, things happen and we realize that. Also ingot covered n black stuff on the arms and thighs from the table...which we politely told her about in the way out. All in all, The Breachway was good, nice patio, decent service, mediocre pricing. We would return.

My family and I frequently eat here, either for lunch on weekends or for pizza on weeknights. I really enjoy the pizza here, it's got a nice chewy crust, but is nicely thin elsewhere. Good cheese and sauce ratios, decent Ingredients. The other lunch wraps and sandwiches I've had here have always been good quality.

Returning summer customers - reliably delicious food, super beers on tap and nice, family friendly atmosphere indoors and out. Servers were great! On the downside, there appears to be a lack of experience estimating the wait time to be seated. If you over estimate and call the increasingly agitated patrons to their table earlier, the reaction will be more positive. Being told repeatedly that the wait will be 10-15 minutes longer is more aggravating and just fuels the impatience. Hopefully, this will improve as the fare is worth the - with improvement, better managed - wait.

Sat on the patio this evening for a post-beach dinner. Staff was very friendly and prompt, patio was clean and well organized. We ordered the fish tacos, delicious. Get both the pico de gallo and the mango salsa, both are fresh and tasty. We also ordered the Greek pizza, crispy on the bottom, soft on the top. My fiancé likes marinara so we got a side of that. Could have been a tad saltier but I admittedly have a salt issue! It as delicious though. My only reason for 4 stars is the price. $15 for a small pizza is a bit absurd, even for the beach area. $10 or $11 would be a fairer price for what you get. The fish tacos at $16 should run at about the same price, although the hefty helping of black beans and rice is a boost. Again, you're paying for the location so to be expected. Nice work BG, we'll be back.

The food was fine but the service was terrible. Although the waitress was nice, it took 10 mins before she came to greet us/take our order. We had our 3.5 year old with us, so although the host brought us the kids menu, we were waiting on the waitress for crayons. Half of the items on the menu were no longer available, including the beer. We placed our order and waited and waited... And waited. We asked finally for our beers, the waitress asked, "2 more?" We said no, we never got the ones we ordered (over 20 mins ago). Another 10 mins passed before they came. My husband finally gave up on them bringing the crayons we were promised on the way in & got them himself. When the food finally came, we were without silverware or napkins. My husband finally got up & asked for some (he was going to get it himself) - they said someone would be right over... Another 10 mins pass & still no napkins or silver wear - my husband got up again & they finally handed some to him to bring back to us. Overall terrible experience.

Marianne is a great bartender. The oysters Rockefeller are a rich treat. Fantastic steamers and whole belly clam roll. Buck a shuck oysters from 4 to 6. That's when to go! Enough beer on tap to keep us interested but a not huge selection. Big outdoor patio. Lots of happy hustle and bustle. Great spot for all ages.

Alex was cool as a waiter and the hostess was very nice but they are not equipped to handle a dinner service! We arrived at 7:30 and got fed at 9! My mother in law complained the entire wait and my poor 9 and 10 year old daughters were over hungry! The food was not worth the wait! Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else!

The food was great when we finally got it! Unfortunately it took a very long time. Luckily I overheard a couple sitting close by complaining and told them to bring out things as they were available. That meant at least half our party could enjoy their gumbo while we all waited for the starter we ordered 15 minutes earlier. The Scallops Nantucket description sounds a little odd (includes cheddar and bacon) but it was actually quite good.If I go again, I would go earlier and hopefully would have quicker service on the food.

We waited almost an hour for the food to be delivered to our table, would have been nice if our waitress checked in every so often to see how we were. Food was delicious, but on the pricey side. Overall I would try this place again, but don't go when you're starved because you may pass out due to hunger before you get your food.

I love pretty food! This place has it & if it's possible it tastes better than it looks! Great variety menu, even offers great tasting vegan options! Pleasant staff, great atmosphere, all around great place!

Love the owner. He's an amazing guy with an amazing theme. But the service is by far the absolute worst I have ever experienced. The bar tender neglected my wife and I for 20 minutes...The bar back and owner had to pick up her slack and when she realized that she was failing, she blamed it on the staffing. It took 45 minutes for one round of drinks and an appetizer. That's after being seated.

My Grandmother put me on to this place! I never thought that day would come where I would be the one schooled on tasty places to eat. Thought that was my job in the family. She brought me there after a great day at the beach. We had some rum runners and started with the stuffed portabella mushroom. I am pretty sure it had a lobster or crab stuffing and it was covered in melted cheese. It was so good! I can't believe we killed that whole thing and still finished our meals. Ha. I tried the baked scrod dinner. Talk about a healthy portion. It came with rice and summer veggies. No regrets on trying some place new that was so close to home. How did I miss this!? I do think that I liked the drinks and apps a little more than the dinner itself. The dining area could use something to make it feel more beachy or cozy, can't put my finger on exactly what. But something. Would I go again, yes.

First time there tonight. The four of us enjoyed it. Got there at 5:00pm, went right in and ate in the patio area. I posted all the pictures. We all loved what we had bit my wife said the Baked Scrod was just OK. The Caesar Salad was big enough for the four of us to share. Very good. The New England clam chowder and the bread basket for starters also very good. We had Chicken Scarpariello, which was very good!! Lobster & Shrimp Linguine, loaded and very good! Baked Scrod was just OK and Lobster Roll with fries was perfect with the lightly toasted or grilled roll with just lobster meat and butter. Also loaded! The Coconut Cake for dessert was very good also. We were fortunate enough to have a great server, Nina. She was also very helpful with all our questions before ordering. Looking forward to going back soon and trying other entrees. You won't be disappointed. Enjoy!!!

Really enjoyed the food. Waitress was super rude though. Always turned her back, got visibly annoyed when we would ask for something, would pretend not to hear things so she wouldn't have to get it. Debbie is the waitress. Customer service is very important.

  • Jason E.

The food and service here was mediocre. We had the calamari to start, which was just ok. I then had the fish tacos for my entree and I really didn't like it that much. The fish wasn't that fresh and the sauce wasn't very good. The waitress we had was definitely nice but just not a good waitress. We would ask her for drink refills and she'd forget multiple times, coming back to see if we needed anything and we would have to constantly reminder her about the requests we already made. The thing I didn't like most about this restaurant is that the food and service was very mediocre but the prices were pretty high. Also the wait was 45 minutes for a Saturday - no way would I have waited here for the quality we had. I would say the best thing about this restaurant was the music, performed by an absolutely incredible guitar player.

Enjoyed this place so much we went back a second time and we were only in town for the weekend. We enjoyed the sheltered outdoor seating very much. Cocktails are inventive, tasty and well poured. Always a great start. On my first visit I went for the portobello "burger" with fries. It was the perfect light lunchtime sandwich. Left me room for dessert, The waitress said the chef's grandma made the cakes so chocolate cake it was! Granny needs a raise! Wonderful moist flavorful chocolate cake with a luscious whip cream style chocolate frosting. Worth every calorie. On trip # 2 Started with the stuffies. Moist wonderful stuffed clams thoroughly enjoyed them. I opted for one of the daily specials. A Thai peanut scallop salad. It was amazing spicy perfectly cooked scallops over spinach. The peanut sauce had just the right amount of heat perfection! I cooled down with a Tiramisu dessert that had just enough of an espresso undertone. Always a plus when that balance is perfectly struck. There were five in our party all of us were very satisfied with our meals. All of us can't wait to go back.

We decided to eat at this restuarant for the first time tonight. Sadly, I must start this review from the end of our experience. We had parked in one of the two disability marked locations. The disability parking locations (2) are on the south side of the building. Upon exiting the restuarant we found we were required to negotiate a path to our parked vehicle through complete darkness. All the exterior lighting accommodated the able bodied parking area, while we had to locate our vehicle with no exterior lighting. Given the circumstances, this scenario is borderline CRIMINAL. Imagine pushing a wheelchair into a scenario like this. Unfortunately I cannot offer comment further on any details of the dining experience. I will be contacting the town and state authorities. Total disappointment. I am a local who gets takeout often from Breachway Grill. I was told 30 minutes when I called to place order. Understandable given summer busy season. Arrive and told it would be another 15 minutes. It was actually 30 minutes so one full hour wait for takeout. The worst part...got pizza home and middle wasn't cooked through plus none of the toppings were cooked at all. So just a soggy, uncooked mess that cost me $15. I called to share my disappointment. I was out on hold for manager who never picked up. Was offered another pizza. That's okay. Not driving back and waiting another hour. Understand its summer but you should take care of us locals. We are your only customers 9 months out of the year.

First visit was a good one. Great attentive service (sat at the bar), food was fresh and hot. Delicious raw bar as well. Oysters Rock rich but very good. What's up with the squirt bottle squiggle of balsamic reduction? Will return happily. Nudging the Rathskeller aside.

Mainly catering to tourists and the locals who are weekly regulars. Sometimes you can have a great experience but on average the food and service are just that, average. Also slightly over priced but that comes with the location and tourists. Comfortable atmosphere. Generally nice people working there but if you sit at the bar beware. The bartenders are often either horrible or just inexperienced. You will often have to ask for a menu and almost always need to ask when needing another drink. And if you're not a regular they will routinely over charge you if you don't check your itemized bill. Yet it's still decent enough that I return a few times a year.

I have to say I really like this place. The atmosphere is great, laid back and touristy at the same time. It's certainly off the beaten path but it's a great little place to find. Service here is always great and the food is excellent. Super fresh seafood and really good specials. They also serve pizza and have a nice menu for the kids, you can't really go wrong here. They are priced a little high but the food and service make it worth it, if it was a little cheaper we'd frequent more often but either way it's OK. They had a fun trivia night last winter that they are doing right now in the summer, I'm hoping they bring it back as we had fun with it when we went during the winter. I'm looking forward to more visits.

Waited over an hour. Food was above average. Wings were great. Calamari was good. Scallops were great. Swordfish special was good. Steak was raw. Service was average. Server was unfriendly and didn't crack a smile. Tip went from 20% to 15% quick. When actually, All it takes is a smile.

Much improved. I feel confident saying that this quality establishment is the best restaurant in the Charlestown Beach Area. Marianne is one of the best bartenders around and Craig is a very attentive and hardworking wonder. The kitchen has also become very consistent in a good way. Way to go Breachway!

Our excuse to dine at the Breachway Grill tonight was a restaurant.com certificate. We had a spinach greek salad and oysters Rockefeller (sauce to die for) to share to start and based on these alone told the waiter we wanted to meet the chef. When our main dishes came out, salmon and swordfish, we were more determine. Both were cooked perfectly with flavorful sauces, and presented with panache and crunch, along with risottos. The young chef (Josh) came out and my spouse told him these dishes would impress at high end Washington, DC restaurants (where we're from). This is a small business with talent and creativity and we will definitely be back.

My fiancee and I came for Valentine's Day after seeing their pre fixe menu online. We ordered a bottle of wine and a 5 course feast. The food was unbelievable, and the amount you get for what you pay is amazing. Everyone's friendly, the manager makes the table rounds, and you will definitely take food home. Plus, everything is locally sourced. Win win.

Oh Breachway Grill, the location that is ever churning out new restaurants. This place has potential though but only if they step their game up in a few areas. The food gets at least 4.5 stars while the service only really gets 2 stars. We came here Monday night, there was 7 of us. We called ahead to make a reservation because you never know with the tourists and all that jazz. When we called, we were told that you can only make a reservation for a party of 8 or more but they let us slip under the radar and make one anyway. We were also able to get a table outside which in my book is huge!! And outside they have this guy who thinks he's the put master grilling meat, and I don't even eat meat but that BBQ smelt damn good! Once we were all seated, our waitress didn't come over right away but when she did, she came to our table at least 5 times about to take our drink orders but every time she would start, she would say "Oh!! Please hold on one minute" and then run off. The first two times it was fine, then when it happened almost three times after that it got annoying. She was running off to deliver other peoples meals to them, isn't that what table runners are for? I'm not sure but I think so! So once we got over that, we placed our order and I remember reading the reviews on here saying that the service was slow so I said lets just get our orders in as quick as we can. The menu is huge, but one of the cooks is my neighbor and he said they are scaling the menu down to only the favorites. To start, two people ordered salads, one Bacci and one Greek. The Bacci is basically the wedge salad, with bacon, tomato, blue cheese and blue cheese dressing. The Greek salad though was out of this world! Both salads were a very very generous portion and if you added meat/shrimp to it, it would make for a great meal. I wish I had ordered the Greek Salad, the dressing on it was delicious. I don't think it was Greek Dressing either, they have this house Creole dressing that is very tangy and has a strong after taste of vinegar which I love. For meals we ordered: half rack of ribs, (3) baked scrod, (2) portabello mushroom sandwich's and one scallops Florentine. I had the portabello mushroom with sweet potato fries. What a delicious meal!! It was topped with topped with avocado, vine-ripened tomatoes, baby spinach, Bermuda onion and mozzarella. Served on a toasted roll with chipotle mayo. I asked for extra of the chiptole mayo both for my burger and the fries which was a very good request on my end! I also used the Creole salad dressing to dip my fries in, another good choice! I was also able to try the scallops which were delicious! It came with a side of sauteed spinach and white rice, my uncle didn't eat his spinach so I was more than willing to help him out there and it was tangy. It was done with lemon and EVOO for sure but delicious and generous portion of it as a side. The others, the scrod and ribs all got rave reviews as well. Now here are a few side comments. So we had a crazy waitress which was already discussed. It also took a very long time for our food to come out. Also the bathrooms, they are clean which is great, but the water pressure for the sink, oh wait what water pressure?! And then the toilet doesn't flush especially if someone was in there right before you which was the case for me. So that needs to be worked on. The whole place is very clean and very simple. I would love to see them jazz it up a bit. And with a bar like that how did you not work harder to get your LQ license?! While right now it is only beer and wine, if you want hard booze they should allow BYOB. I think this place could stay afloat but I think most of their traffic is going to be beach and tourist traffic. Maybe once they pair back the menu and get the servers on their toes this place could make a swift comeback. Can't say I'd be running back to eat here but if the idea was thrown out there for dinner I would go.

We went here on 6/4/11 after reading the positive reviews. The sweet potato fries, the clams on the half shell and the pizza were the best things that we had as a group. I ordered the salmon al'orange and was disappointed. The fish wasn't very firm and the seasoning on it wasn't terribly distinct. Another person ordered the fisherman's platter and the calamari and clams were good, but the fries were greasy and soggy. The service was slow (over an hour between when we sat down and when we were served) and there were a few things that got forgotten (one person's drink and a few requests for water refills). You can chalk that up to new restaurant growing pains but the food wasn't strong enough to make up for it. You're not going to walk away unhappy, but you're also probably not going to rush back.

Food is great and now that the crowds and waiting lines have gone it is the time to enjoy this great place. Ate there last night - food was great- wild salmon cooked to perfection. Husband had pizza which he also enjoyed.

I had been to the Breachway Grill twice before this evening. The first time was fine, but not memorable; I went with my mother a few years ago and had some sort of salad with chicken. Then I went last summer, again with my mother, and had the Scallops Nantucket. It was HORRIBLE. The scallops had clearly been frozen and were sinfully overcooked. They were not even rubbery, they were firm and unchewable. They were also completely covered in a nacho-style cheese sauce and then hidden by soggy breadcrumbs. I only ate the rice and veggies served with it. Earlier tonight, I visited this place for a third time with my mother (and her 2 friends), who swears by the place. I think I might be finally be getting it because tonight was GOOD. We all split the steamers and Bourbon Mussels special for appetizers. Both were great. The shellfish was fresh and tasty, and the Bourbon cream broth for the mussels with bacon, corn, and caramelized onions was addicting. For my entree I had another special, the Sweet Chili Salmon. It was very delicious and cooked well. 'It seems that this place has turned around since my previous visit, and I hope it stays that way! Such a great location and concept.

This is the single worst experience I've ever had at a restaurant. It does not deserve the one star I begrudgingly find myself compelled to give it. Our food took about an hour (or more) to come, the seafood was inedible, and they forgot one of our orders. They offered us an 'extra' clam roll during our wait, but we still watched customer after customer who entered after us receive their food before us.

What a great place! The food, service and atmosphere are really great! Come for an extra treat on the weekends with live music during dinner on Fridays and Saturdays. This is a vast improvement over past restaurant attempts at this location. The manager/owner, Craig, is always "on the job" making sure the place is rocking. This is a fun place to bring kids or parents as the menu offers something for everyone! The seafood dishes are fabulous and the fish tacos are the best around. The food is fresh, perfectly prepared and served hot. If you're heading to the beach, stop by and give this place a shot. You won't be disappointed!

After reading the reviews was not expecting much. Food was actually pretty good. Service as also friendly and attentive. Good ribs, swordfish, calamari. I would return for an after the beach dinner.

Nice, simple, clean interior which was newly remodeled. Food was good (not great) but a little pricey. The "Black and Tan" Onion Rings were great, and I'd never seen anything like them before. The personal pizzas were huge--neither of the ladies in our party could finish them, but I suspect a man could. I agree with other postings that their slow service needs some improvement. Servers were basically teenagers who'd never served before, which was kinda awkward. I liked the modern, super clean, newly-remodeled bathrooms (most people don't care, but I insist on bathroom cleanliness). There is some sort of boxing-studio next door and we could hear people punching bags through the walls! Sadly, I suspect history will repeat itself and yet another decent restaurant in this location will be going out-of-business soon! The area's just not profitable enough except during peak beach months.

I had high hopes after reading about this place in the Westerly Sun - local seafood seems sadly (and astonishlngly) lacking since Greg's Seafood in Dunn's Corner closed, what, ten years ago, and Three Fish in downtown Westerly changed ownership. Alas, this was more of a pizza and fried food joint. The service has some kinks to work out. We ordered, and fifteen minutes after placing our order we were told they were out of one of the entrees. The server brought us some round chocolate covered ice ream filled dessert when the order was for the chocolate lava cake, and had the nerve to insist it was the lava cake. When we insisted she check with the chef, she came back out five minutes later to tell us that actually they were out of chocolate lava cake. In between, the food was ok, but not memorable. Really. I don't remember what we had, except that whoever got a pasta dish had overcooked noodles (ugh)(like Campbell's chicken noodle soup).

We went to dinner here on Jun 24, 2013 while on vacation. We were 6 in total (4 adults & 2 children). Decor is bright and very well done. Service was good, friendly and accomodating. The childrens's food was bought out quickly and cooked right. We had the calamari starter which was great.....tender and not full of grease. The hot bananna peppers on it were good. We had a nice bottle of chilled pinot grigio with dinner. Good temperature and refreshing. Entrees were fish & chips, ribeye steak, fish tacos and the halibut special. Each one was prepared and cooked well. Portions were large. Prices are fair and we left very satisfied. We will return.

We were the only table in the place and still got poor service. Plus the health department came and shut them down while we were there. Not a good sign. We didn't get sick, however, the food was not very good. The chowder was bland - no flavor - and all the burgers come with bacon whether you want it or not. I asked for mine medium and it came well done. The calamari was overdone. I don't think they know how to use the fry-o-later. Another disappointment - it seems like nothing ever does well in that place.

We went earlier this summer to beat the rush as we like to try out places to eat in our home town. The atmossphere was pleasant and we were seated quickly. The service was extremely slow. The waitress was pleasant but it took forever to get our meals. On the good side the meals were better. We had salad, and fish dinner was very good. And I enjoyed my calamari. Will wait till the restaurant has a chance to settle in and may give it a try in the fall.

I'll start by saying the 2 stars is mostly for the service, the food was decent, but not good enough to bring the rating to 3 stars. I was really looking forward to some fresh seafood after being at the beach all day. It was just before 3pm and the place looked somewhat busy for the off time, so I figured it was an area favorite. We didn't wait long to be seated, but that's about the only thing we didn't wait for. The first disappointment was the raw bar not being "open" until 4:30p, which isn't posted on the menu. It took about 10-12 minutes for her to take our order, just to find out what I wanted wasn't available. She then disappeared for another 8-10 min (I asked for another minute or two) while I decided on something else. Went with 1/2 dozen clam cakes (more like clam fritters), 1lb pound of steamers and a lobster salad roll. The clam cakes were OK, not many clams but for $4.95 I wouldn't make a stink about it. There was a small drizzle of remoulade sauce on the corner of the plate that was enough for 2 of the cakes. The other 4 had no sauce. I really l don't understand why they would garnish a plate of 6 clam cakes with a tablespoon of remoulade sauce. Moving onto the steamers, which were fresh and tasted good and for an almost 35 minute wait, I should hope so. Along with the wait, they came with no butter or broth to clean them off and no plate or bowl for the empty shells. The waitress acknowledged the missing pieces and said they would be right out. A minute or two later, someone who I hadn't seen on the patio all day, came out with a hot ramekin of butter and handed to me (couldn't have put it on the table?). I had to ask for the broth and bowl for the shells, again, which came out another minute or two later. Now almost an hour into lunch and we finally get our lobster rolls, which were supposed to be tossed in a little mayo, dill and celery...according to the menu. There was no dill or celery and it was extremely light on the mayo, which is certainly better than heavy mayo, but the roll really lacked flavor. Lobster should be sweet and fresh and not need much, but this one was average at best. The roll was more like a grinder roll, not your standard hot dog roll and wasn't toasted or grilled, and was about 2 hours away from being completely stale. I ended up just eating the lobster out of it with a fork. I don't live in the area or visit much, but if I'm in Charlestown again I really don't think I would eat here.
