I'm bucking the trend here and giving Tiffin the full five stars. Now hear me out. I ordered takeout. So, I cannot comment on the quality of the service, though the people who took my order were polite and amiable. I am also not an expert on Indian food. Today's lunch was the fourth or fifth time that I have eaten the cuisine in my life. Fellow Yelper, Ryan G, praised Tiffin to the point where I thought it would be impossible for the restaurant to meet my expectations. As it turns out, he was dead on accurate. The Chicken Tikka Masala and Naan were both amazing. My savory lunch was delicious and filling but not too heavy. The portion was also large enough that I was able to split it with a friend and still be satisfied. I would urge you not to let the negative reviews hinder you, although opting for takeout might be a wise option. My only concern is that I fear returning here, as any following meals might only be a let down in comparison to this one.

Quick service, great food. Only downside - it's a little expensive. But the employees are very nice!

Here are a few expectations I have of any restaurant... 1. If you don't have a host/hostess at the door, don't make me feel stupid if I ask the person at the takeout register If I can sit down. 2. Even if it's busy, the 1st available employee should offer water or a drink ASAP.... if that employee walks by my table with a water pitcher, ignores my table and fills another table's water then that's no good. 3. If its busy, then have some waiter/waitress come by to smile and say something like "I'll be with you in a minute". Instead I sat there with my wife and son for a solid 10 minutes without a drink, without any acknowledgement from the wait staff, and without any indication or hint when we would be served. Its too bad because the food did look and smell good. We just left and went to Elevation Burger. Maybe we'll try Tiffin for takeout, or maybe we'll just avoid altogether purely on principle. But with service like this, I can't imagine they will be busy for very long.

All I'm gonna say is that their chicken tikka masala and other similarly stewed dishes are mad creamy. Not that that's a bad thing. The naan, of course, is great but it's hard to mess that up. Service was good. Honestly, I can't make a complain about the place. I guess I only gave it three stars because nothing stood out as amazing. It's just one of those places that you would willingly return to just because the food is good, not expensive, and it's quiet. Tiffin also had multiple locations around the suburbs of Philly so that's got to be saying something. Also came here for my gf's birthday so that's probably also saying something. Something berry gut. I had a gut tym here. I assume I would on my next visit.

My first time trying indian food and it was awesome! Also great staff and service. Food was phenomenal. Restaurant is in pristine condition. Love all the tiffin locations. Really great and really fresh!

Okay, look. The food here is good, although I have to say that even as the whitest of white people some it seemed unusually mild to me. Still, the Aloo Papri Chaat was fresh and delicious, the samosas are tasty, and the Navratan Korma rich and filling. It is definitely worth trying, and on food alone I think I'd give it four stars. The thing is, I've gotten takeout here twice, and both times, I had to wait. Now the first time was partially my fault - it took me so long to figure out what I wanted on their website that I actually ordered past the time of the window that I had picked when I started. Still, I waited around forty minutes after I arrived for my food. And this was not in the first few weeks of opening. But the second time, I ordered several hours ahead of when I anticipated picking up - and I still had to wait fifteen minutes when I arrived. And this was on a Monday afternoon late in the lunch hour, the place was definitely not packed. Also, the layout is terrible. To pick up takeout food, you have to walk through the restaurant to the back where the kitchen is. There's nowhere to wait back there, really, so you're just kind of standing there awkwardly, trying not to be in the way of waiters coming out of the kitchen and trying to get to the small service station with water, etc. on the side. It's also incredibly noisy. More Indian restaurants have been popping up in the area - I think I'll check them out before coming back again.

First of all, service can't be considered a strong point, as Tiffin started out as a delivery place and grew from there. I have not been disappointed at all with our recent takeout order from Tiffin. I consider myself very experienced with Indian cuisine (it runs in my genes after all), and most items were well spiced. Even the corriander chutney seemed like it was made in-house instead of from a bottle. The samosas were crisp, the meat was tender, and the curry was flavorful as it should be. There is not a better take-out Indian place in the main line. Period. I can't speak for the in-house dining experience however.

Pros: Decent Indian food, reasonable prices, BYOB. Cons: Poor service, inattentive waitstaff, noisy and unbelievably bright in the afternoon sun, mixed up orders, courses served incomplete and without necessary accoutrements. If I were the owner, I'd start developing an emergency action plan to get this location on track before Tiffin blows its reputation in the 'burbs.

Goodbye Saffron. See ya later Ekta. Tiffin is my new fav spot for Indian food. Better quality than anywhere else I've tried on the Main Line. Food was great and service was attentive. Will be back for sure!

We've been watching the vacant storefront with the coming soon sign, we gave up, and then found that they had finally opened, so we went tonight.. A great looking place, more high style than any other Indian restaurant that I have ever seen! As it is freshly opened , I really have to forgive the service, it was very busy there so it took a while to get attention, however once the order was taken, the meal came promptly. The menu was somewhat limited as compared to most Indian places that we have been. The food was really quite good, far better and more realistically priced than any of the other local Indian places around our area. Also, it is BYOB. However, I think that we will take our time returning. It was so horribly noisy there that my wife and I both left with splitting headaches. There is not one stitch of sound absorbing material anywhere in the entire restaurant! The good news is that they actually have tables outside, I think that we would rather chance sitting by a shopping center parking lot than bear that noise inside! Takeout is also a possibility... Four stars for the food, minus two for the lack of being able to enjoy it.

Forgive me, I'm not exactly sure what we got - there was a really nice coconutty dish with paneer, and another light curry-esque dish, both with vegetables. And while these individual sauces were fine, it seemed clear after just a few bites, the sauces were not the problem. The vegetables, although passable, seemed to be some sort of supermarket medley blend, straight from the freezer. The naan was nothing worth mentioning. Honestly, the stuff we usually get at Trader Joe's (and some of my Indian friends concur) is better than this. Disappointing, not sure that we'd go back.

Their food is so wonderful... their service is so not! I love, love, love the tandoori chicken at Tiffin. And the naan. And the fried fish mirchi appetizer. But the service is always brusque and unhelpful. Agree with others' reviews that it is quite noisy too.

I love Indian food and really think Tiffin is A-ok..there is room for improvement! Have ordered take out and for the first time ate in for lunch this past week. My veggie friend and I enjoyed the Vegetable Samosa, veggie korma aka Navrattan Korma, wheat Naan, spinach Saag Paneer, and we drank Mango Lassis and we loved every bite. At first it was way too cold and the waitstaff took care of that right fast. Our food came out quickly and the waitstaff was very helpful and prompt with our requests. I think if they can keep up with the personal touch they will have a much bigger eat in crowd. Loved the meal and wil be back!

Giving Tiffin 4 stars... for the food only!! This will become our Indian take out restaurant of choice. Don't bother eating in...the restaurant is very noisy, lacks atmosphere, and service was abysmal.

like the majority of reviewers here, allow me to be yet another to tell you that the service here blows. which is unfortunate, because tiffin's food is pretty darn good. their saag paneer is - hands down - the best i have ever tasted....rich, creamy and with the perfect amount of flavor and spice. GET THIS! the malai kofta, aloo gobhi, navratan korma & dal makhani are also all quite good, tho i find the baingan bharta to be on the bland side. the aloo papri chaat is a fave app of mine, and their samosas are decent, tho not the best around. same goes for the naan. that said, here's my advice to you: TAKE-OUT. you can try to get delivery, but when i have requested it, i've been told they're too busy/understaffed, and can i come in to pick up. weird, but whatever. expect a slightly awkward wait before paying at the counter, and don't expect a kind smile or wishes to enjoy your meal. bonus: inside your bag of food, you will get the standard chutneys as well as a small complimentary container of a mystery veggie dish (whatever it is, it's tasty!) note: you do NOT get these items if you dine in!! typically at a sit-down indian restaurant, you are served complimentary papadam with chutneys. not here. they only seem to serve the chutneys at the table if you order samosas and look at you funny if you ask for them for your naan. also, don't bother asking questions about items on the menu, as you will be regurgitated exactly what you just read for yourself. and water refills? let's just hope you didn't order anything too spicy.

This has become a weekend tradition. We have a 2-year old and he loves the food. The chaat is top-notch; and the butter chicken and paneer tikka masala is absolutely outstanding. We always order extra to-go because our 2-year old actually loves to have it packed in his lunch for school. The service is impeccable: they even bring out a baby-spoon for our son and a smaller plate and glass so that he can "eat like a grown-up." We have also taken our Indian parents and they give the food 5-stars.

People always praise Tiffin so my friend and I decided to try the Wynnewood location. I was incredibly disappointed. More bland, completely flavorless Indian food. I had the paneer tikka masala and my friend ordered one of the specials which was some kind of paneer dish with strips of grilled vegetables. It wasn't in a curry sauce so it was just dried out and lacking flavor. I kind of also remember the service being quite bad but it was nice that we could BYOB. I'm still debating whether or not I'll try a different Tiffin location in the future.

I'm writing this not based on the food, because we didn't even get that far. We had a group of 11 on a Sunday night, and yes, it is a small place so we understood the wait of 40 minutes to seat us. 35 minutes later, the hostess tells us we have another 40 minutes. Still understanding we said we could split the group up, a table of 6 and 5 if that would help, and she said yes. So we walked in and saw 2 tables next to each other, one that still needed to be cleared off that could fit 7. We sat 4 of the group first, and waited for them to clear the table. Here's where everything went to hell. After the table was cleared, all of a sudden, a family of 3 was seated at the empty table. Baffled, we noticed the hostess was a waitress now, and this stubborn Indian guy had become the new 'host'. Still civil, we told him that the hostess had said that table was for the other half of our group, and without any apology he said he could do nothing, and that the remaining 7 of our group had to wait again in the line. (We later heard that the family of 3 that was seated even acknowledged that our group was there first, which further served to disgust us about the service.) He made it seem like he didn't want us there. Without delay we got up and left. I believe everyone needs to know about the horrible service at a restaurant that thinks they can treat customers this way just because they're the latest craze.

Stopped in last night with girlfriend for 1st time at this restaurant. It was nearing closing time and few customers were still there. I ordered the salmon. My girlfriend ordered something else. Our server was very nice and likable. I really, really loved my salmon dinner. At some point while eating a fork came across the table but I I jabbed it and it went away. I could eat this food every night. My girlfriend liked her dinner very much too but I don't know what it was. Cost was low and I was a happy, hopefully a repeat customer. And a BYOB.

Ahh, Tiffin. I had such high hopes for you. I made up excuses to run errands to Old Navy or to drive by just to check on the progress of your store front. I excitedly checked for updates of the opening on the Web. I bemoaned the high prices at Khajuraho and the salty food at Ekta down the street, just waiting for good Indian food to hit the Main Line. Maybe the expectations were just too high? Or maybe you were just too cocky after your success in Philadelphia? Now, the good. Great location -- walking distance from my house, good parking for those that need to drive. Nice space -- lots of seating, but not so much that you feel like you are on top of other diners. Very clean and bright. (Although maybe too bright - please get some shades for the windows. Eating dinner with my sunglasses on was not a fashion statement, it was a necessity because of the light streaming in from the 6 p.m. sun) And the price is right -- both for dining in and take out. Now for the bad... Although busy, we were able to get a table for two right away along with water and menus. And then a long wait to take our order. Once placed, we waited over 20 minutes for our appetizer samosas to arrive. Maybe not too bad, except that every table around us arrived after we did and was served before us. And also, a twenty minute wait for samosas? Shouldn't having those prepped and ready to go out be one of the first things you do for the evening? Once the samosas arrived, we waited for another 5 minutes for the chutney and condiments. Evidently this would be the theme for the evening. When our dinner was brought out, our nan followed it by another 5 minutes. Again, shouldn't hot nan be something fairly easy to get to the table? I had a vegetable dish and my husband ordered chicken curry. The vegetable dish was something new to me -- not really to my liking, but I can't say that it was bad. My husband's curry, however, was just a tomato based sauce -- no curry. When he asked a waiter if he had received the wrong dish, the waiter insisted that was how the curry was made at Tiffin. Now, my man knows curry and he knew this wasn't it. So he flagged down another server to the same response. And finally a third, who agreed to take it back to the chef. 10 minutes later, we had a new dish -- this time it actually was curry (and was good, although we had soured on the whole dining thing by then) -- and the waiter, after much prodding, acknowledged they had brought out the wrong dish the first time. Many of these may just be the restaurant working out the kinks in its opening week. And I would have forgiven the bumps and slow service if they had only acknowledged them. But, with the owner in the house during our dinner and Tiffin's stellar reputation in Philly, I expected more gracious service. At least a nod to the wait and confusion. An apology for bringing the wrong dish out. But nothing...for which it makes it hard to give them another try. Although, I'm sure our craving for nearby Indian food will bring us back eventually -- but maybe not until the memory of this dining experience has worn off and they have more time to work out their service issues. Stay tuned...

i'm confused by the tiffin hater posts here--- we can't say enough good things about the place and have been back several times now. every meal we've had there has been excellent, and we've tried several dishes! my only suggestion is to specify if you want something to be spicy, because the norm there is to make it not hot. the briyanis are delish! and we love the chana masala and tikka masala. give it a shot & decide for yourself.

Jesus H Christ... can't a nice, polite Indian place in the burbs catch a break? What's with all these negative reviews? And by suburbanites no less. When did people from Bryn Mawr suddenly become experts at Indian food? I don't buy it for one freakin' second. This place is NICE. The location is convenient and easy to park at. The interior decoration is contemporary... a welcome relief from the usual bad artworks of indian princesses and elephant gods... or worse, the white walled bland places down on 40th street in west philly that actually suck but are championed by those who ate there as students and still think cockroaches are a sign of authenticity. The interior is bathed in a beautiful light that streams in from the full length windows in the front of the dining room. It's really peaceful. The tables and chairs are nice too. Doesn't nice count for anything in this world. The servers seem nice too. Very polite. They come and ask you what you'd like, and pour water in your glass, and bring you yogurty-stuff that you order. What's so bad about that? And the food is tasty. Yum yum... I love creamy chicken tiki masala, and I love chana masala, and I love papadum and nan, etc. It all tastes really satisfying to me. After I eat it I think, wow, that was really tasty. If you fancy yourself a suburban version of Anthony Bourdain, wherein authentic ethnic food can only come from a place that approximates a Mumbai sewer, then by all means, trip on down to West Philly and tell me how great the lamb saag is. But if you'd just like a really nice relaxed place to go and eat decent and tasty indian favorites, then forget the knuckleheads on this site who are giving this place two stars. You'll get the last laugh on them anyhow... as you go home satisfied, where as they will be sitting on the toilet with food poisoning.

Ordered carry-out this time: chicken tikka, samosa, garlic naan, chicken vindaloo. The chicken tikka was a very small serving (for 13 bucks I expected a lot more) with the yogurt it was marinated in forming a strange gritty substance, just a bad texture to go along with the mediocre flavor of the meat...even the lemon wedge that comes standard with this dish was small and limp. The chicken put me off so much I didn't even try to eat the tandooried onions and peppers. I do not understand why they don't give a small side of raita with this dish, but I guess gouging for condiments is standard. The garlic naan tasted like it had too much baking soda/other leavening agent...really acrid. The garlic couldn't make up for it. The samosa were pretty tasteless, fortunately there was tamarind sauce to make up the flavor deficit. The vindaloo was spicy, but strangely flavorless. I don't know how they managed to spice something to the point of oblivion, but that is what I had tonight. I have been to this Tiffin several times since it opened, and tonight was the last night I will order from here unless I hear of miracles occuring. I don't know what happened, perhaps the cooking staff has changed or they just don't care anymore. I have noticed a steady decline over the months, much to my disappointment. Pay a couple extra bucks per plate and order from any other Indian joint in the area; I can't recommend this Tiffin.

I hate to give this place even one star, but zero stars is not an option on Yelp. Where to begin...the bad service-half a dozen waitstaff standing around picking their faces rather than taking our order and bringing our food; the "used" trio of chutneys that looked like it had just been removed from another diner's table; the poor quality ingredients--tandori chicken which was all bones and fat; the gelatinous, salty messes masquerading as vegetarian curry and eggplant; the order of naan which was comprised of one small oily piece in a basket; the cigarette smoke wafting in through the open back door; or the pleasure of paying nearly $20 per person for this experience. Save yourself the aggravation and have a bowl of cereal at home instead.

Sorry Tiffin, you smelled so good...but didn't quite deliver. We did enjoy the vegetable Samosa's, and your sauces had great flavor, but the chicken in the Chicken Korma was dry, and the lamb in the Lamb Tikka Masala was tough. It felt like the chicken and lamb were cooked separately then tossed into the sauce at the very end instead of simmering in the sauces. I think I'll try someplace else next time.

I was less than impressed. The food was sort of bland (relative to other Indian joints) and the quantity served was somewhat pathetic. Our waitress even acknowledged that 4 little tandoori wings for $10 is not a good value- but she still didn't bring us more:(.

Had an excellent meal with very good service on Mother's Day. Food was delicious and our server was prompt and courteous providing water refills throughout the meal. The four of us split vegetable samosa and lamb kebab for appetizers. I had the Dhaba Chicken as a main course and tasted my wife's entre - Baingan Bharta eggplant as well. We also had Naan, of course. Everything was very tasty and well prepared - spices were perfectly executed and not over-powering. Will definitely return!

Restaurant Indian food is never as good as homemade, so my expectations are pretty reasonable. The food in general was a bit too salty, particularly the chicken tikka masala. The saag paneer was pretty good, although it too could have done with a sodium reduction. Service was pretty solid, although the place was deserted at noon.

The food was quite good when they first opened, but has trended straight downhill ever since. Combined with the fact that the service staff is either inexperienced or rude or in some cases both. It's definitely not my first choice for Indian.

(Take-out) Service is unacceptably slow. A pick-up time of "30-35 minutes" is given but Tiffin's filling orders routinely takes an hour and often much longer - the deal breaker was an evening when I and numerous others waited for more than an hour after arriving. From experience I knew that service was slow and waiting was an unfortunate possibility, but it's just not possible to go back to a place knowing the dreaded two-hour pick-up time is a possibility. That the guy calling the shots continued to tell callers the pick-up time was "30-35" even when the kitchen had so obviously dropped the ball did not help matters. I give two stars to represent the fact that, as far as Indian food in the area goes, the overall cost/quality at Tiffin is actually quite good.

This is our 2nd dinner their. We were one of two families eating . Our server Sharon was helpful and attentive. The kitchen workers smoked in the back of the restaurant. One servers brought out half eaten sauces that had different goop in them. Our service was really slow, they seemed to pull together their to go orders first. One appetizer , three entrees and raita our bill was $67.00. It felt like the manager on duty didn't care about getting the freshest or cleanest food out to our table. This place is resting on previous reviews. We had a good time too around six months ago. The sauces tasted good, but the place didn't feel good. We won't go back for a long time.

And a BYOB.

YOWZERS!!! Tiffin is just flat out excellent Indian food. My wife and I love this place. The restaurant is clean and normally there is no waiting to be seated. The wait staff is friendly and hospitable. We normally order an appetizer of the Onion Bhaji or the Vegetable Samosa's. Both are excellent and the dipping sauces are great. For the main course I recommend the Saag Paneer and Malai Kofta. The Saag Paneer comes with spinach and blocks of cheese. Wow. Amazing. Malai Kofta is like an Indian Dumpling with buttery warm cashew sauce. Delicious. I cant lie, my wife and I fight over who gets the leftovers. :) We also love the Garlic Naan (get 2 orders at a minimum!) Overall, this is our favorite Indian place in the area. We live about an hour away, and its totally worth the drive. Every visit. Enjoy!

I am writing this while sitting at the restaurant. It was delicious. The naan was fluffly and flavorful, not that crispy garbage that a lot of places serve. I had the Rankataar Korma which is a vegetable dish and it was flavorful and satisfying. Good blend of spices, but lacking on cilantro, which would have really brought it together. Fairly expensive, but a huge portion, enough for sharing, especially at lunch. If you like spicy food, ask for spicy as the menu spiciness is non-existent.

Tiffin is our go-to spot for very good-to-great Indian food in the area. I definitely disagree with any 1-2 star reviews from a food quality perspective, as we've eaten from Tiffin at least a dozen times - both eat-in and take-out -and have always enjoyed our meals. For me, the highlights are the chicken tikka masala, dhaba chicken and the naan, although I've never had a dish that I disliked. If you dine-in, the room is very nice (for a strip mall)... hardwood floors and plenty of space between tables. There are a couple of tables outside on the sidewalk. The room is rarely full to the point of a wait. And there are usually a few families with small kids, so you won't be alone if you bring your little ones. For take-out, the food holds up really well; and they fill your bag with lots of extras - presumably the same ones that would go on your table as condiments/companion dishes (although, truth be told, they almost always go directly into the trash and make me feel guilty). For me, the only negatives are the portion size & the prices (although that's a common complaint I have for restaurants in this neighborhood).

This is a great "standard" Indian restaurant. You aren't going to find anything different, but what they do make is very good. This is probably the best Indian place in the Wynnewood/Ardmore/Drexel Hill area.

So I work in Bala cynwyd and almost every body that walks thru my door tells me "OMG (yep I just said that) you gotta try out Tiffin , it's like the best Indian food , yada ,yada. So I decide to take my cousin with me. Pros - location , BYOB , parking . Cons - food ( white people Indian food ) , stale chutneys ( indian condiment) , the lady who took our order didn't write it , just kinda memorized it so she didn't bring an entree . So yea it's okay food nothing to wow about , bad service .

My aunt had never had Indian food before and asked if I would go to Tiffin with her one evening. It's in her neighborhood. The decor was lovely and service was good. unfortunately, the food was not. I thought the proprietors recognized the community they were and prepared their food accordingly. Everything was bland, boring, and unspiced. I have eaten enough Indian food to know that one can get better meals elsewhere. I won't go back.

First the food was ok. Second that bearded guy at the counter is a complete asshole! Very discourteous when I asked for an extra bag to take my food since the bag he packed gave way. I wanted some extra raitha for the biryani i ordered and he wanted me to pay for it saying it was some shitty policy that he couldn't give more raitha. I will never ever visit tiffin ever again! And I hope they get rid of the bearded guy!

I wish you could give half stars on Yelp, because this restaurant is 3.5 This place is slllloooooowwwwwww to produce your entrees, even if you are one of three tables present, and even if you order something that is in a steam tray in the kitchen ready to go (tika masala or sag paneer). Also, because it is a Suburban Indian restaurant, do not expect to have the same level of spice as in an Urban Indian Restaurant. Our food was sweet and savory, and could have used some heat. I would actually go here again, but would request my items spicy next time. The naan is a non-issue, and is none too bad . . . too bad there is no lunch special on weekends.

This was my first experience at an Indian restaurant, and I can't believe what I've been missing! We stopped in fairly late for a Wednesday night and were the only table there. We ordered Eggplant Chaat, some sort of chicken appetizer, Chicken Tikka Masala, Biryani Chicken, and Chili and Cheese Naan. Everything was delicious. I especially liked the sauces that came out with the appetizers and the Chili Naan. I would definitely recommend.

I find a lot of Indian places make skimpy Indian food lacking in meat/veggies and flavor. Tiffen may have a big price tag but also has great Indian food for a up scale fast food style Indian chain restaurant. I love my lamb saag and chicken tikka with garlic naan. I just find very few places get it right and they do here. It's rich and full of flavor. Everything I have tried on there menu has been very good. I ways try an Indian place when I find one that look good. All over the world and country. I just find this place hits the spot for me. The only bad thing I can say is that they some times mess up orders. I find that's more of a language barrier depending on who answers the phone. If you just spend the extra 30 seconds to check it over they will have it correct when it's pick up time.

It's pretty good. We ordered take out through Grub Hub. Ordered all our favorites: garlic nan, aloo papri chaat, saag paneer, tandoori chicken (comes with rice). They gave us the usual sauces and the extra item of the day which was lentils and it was really good. Everything was really good, just not AS good as I think Ekta is. The saag paneer isn't as creamy. Also when I picked up my food, the guy at the counter laughed a little.. Not sure why?? I'm thinking it's because I got there 30 minutes after it was ready? But who cares, I already paid for it, it could stay there all night if I wanted. They just weren't that friendly.

Over priced, poor service with waiters taking forever to not only take your order but deliver food. With only 3 other table occupied on Labor Day, one would think it would take less than 25 minutes to deliver food. Then the bill came, aaaaghh! Avoid this very poor restaurant.

    (1)

Food tasted good, but for the price it doesn't even come with naan. 14 dollars for Butter Chicken that was more sauce than it was chicken. They have Mango Lassi which for some reason isn't listed on the menu. That stuff's pretty good but I feel like I can go out to NJ's Pardesh Market and get most of this stuff for maybe 3/4 of what I ended up paying for it and have some left over.

We used to enjoy Tiffin on Girard Ave. from time to time and were thrilled when they opened in Mt. Airy, where we used to live. Though neither was the best Indian food we'd had, we enjoyed it well enough and it was great to have Tiffin in our neighborhood. When we moved to Merion we were glad to have the Wynnewood location nearby but frankly, the food isn't what it used to be and in the last year we have experienced a few bad meals and overheard such poor service and attitude that we decided to try another Indian restaurant that is no further from us and is prettier and has consistently tastier food and good service, all at the same prices. For some reason we decided to change it up and gave Tiffin another try a few days ago. After another disappointing experience, I decided to write a review. Before I did I checked out other reviews and after reading about cockroaches and management's response to a customer informing them that they'd just seen a mouse run across the dining room floor, combined with our own bad experiences, you can be sure that we won't be returning.

I was blown away when Tiffin responded to my unhappiness. I was sent an email and was made to feel as though my patronage was important. I will go back there now. I did and was totally pleased with the food and service. Thanks Tiffin for caring about your patrons!

We just had lunch here, the special was a good deal at 11 dollars for chicken vindaloo and came with naan and vegetable samosa. Portion was perfect, I was able to eat it all and I'm full but not uncomfortable. Samosas and naan were great, along with the chutneys. My dish was very nice, lightly spiced with tender chicken. Hubby had tikka masala which was slightly sweet for my taste but still good. Waitstaff was friendly and attentive but not clingy, and the service was fast. The place was empty except for us but had decent ambiance and the dining room and bathrooms were clean.

I have never had anything bad here. And by that I mean I've only ever ordered the Chicken Tikka Masala. And I've ordered it multiple times. It is always fresh tasting and deliciously creamy. With naan.. oh man. The portion is easily sharable or take home leftoverable (my favorite lunch the next day). I'll be honest that I don't have much experience with Indian food so I cannot speak to the authenticity of the dish. Ambience is warm and inviting, however the dining room is small and there's nothing to protect you from the wind when the door opens.

I'm not sure if it's my own bad luck, but I've never had a moist yet still flakey samosa at any Indian restaurant I've been to. I'm happy to say Tiffin has changed the game up for me! Our table ordered the samosas and spicy cauliflower as appetizers, which were both flavorful and addictive. The samosas came out hot and were not dried up and overly crispy like the ones I was so used to getting. The butter paneer was alright, but I think a little too sweet for my liking. A little gripe about the setting, the place is really dim, even in the daytime because of the lights they use. Overall, Tiffin offered a pleasant dining experience with good food and a sweet and attentive staff.

Average Indian restaurant that lacks the buffet. The inside is nice and the waitstaff was attentive. Prices can be high but the lunch specials are a good deal. Food here is a bit "Americanized" - not really spicy. A little "watered down" and sort of lacking that big bold flavor of Indian food. Saag Paneer was really good though.

Since Tiffin is a small chain, I am not surprised that the food varies little between this location and the Bryn Mawr one. Tiffin Wynnewood offers solid Indian food that hits the spot in a brightly colored but otherwise normal atmosphere. A surprising standout at this location was a special that I cannot remember the name of-- it had lentil wafers and chickpeas, served with the white and the brown sauces on top. It was very tasty and I was really pleased with it. The only mystery about the dish was the maraschino cherry that was stuck on top... I am so confused about why it was there (then again, I really don't like those cherries).

I am writing a follow up to my last review indicating the mouse issue at Tiffin. The manager contacted me and assured me that there was no rodent issue at the restaurant, and that the health department had come to inspect and that most things passed and they are restructuring their management at these locations. I was offered compensation for the meal that I had to pay for that was less than enjoyable and invited to experience a meal at one of their higher end restaurants called Tashan, in Center City. It was phenomenal and the service was much better than at Tiffin, although I'm sure that will be changing soon. Head over to Tashan to read my review of that meal. +2 for excellent customer service and for knowing when they are in the wrong. It takes a lot of humility to admit you were wrong, and I can appreciate that and think that this place should be given a second shot. Happy dining!

Mistreatment of Customers and Overpriced food We were regulars at the Wynnewood Tiffin in spite of the $13.00 Chicken Tika Masala that comes with only 5-7 small chunks of low quality dark meat chicken, swimming in sauce and repeated mistakes in take out orders. After screwing up our order again-an arrogant woman who mans the phone refused to give us a free appetizer for a future order because all of the forgotten items were "free". This was an over $70.00 order! What a bad decision she made. I feel badly for the owner of this business who will now loose out because she did not have the intellect to ensure we would return. My advice-spend you money at a place that appreciates it.

Considering the neighboring competition, Tiffin is up there although this location's service hasn't always been the best. They're getting better with a couple female new-hires so you won't feel like your bothering them as much anymore =P. Also, the dine-in experience is necessary in order to really experience the food. The naan is so fresh and great with anything. I normally go for kormas, chicken tikka masala (although bits of white meat chicken are cut too big for my preference); the fish kali mirch is also a favorite. However, I don't know how traditional /authentic their recipes are. I know some Indian restaurants tweak meals in order to cater to the American pallet and I think Tiffin is guilty of this but it may not be a bad thing. But largely, the food is good and consistent which I can appreciate.

The worst Indian food I've ever had. I ordered the biryani to go. What I got in return wasn't biryani. I don't know what it was, but whoever came up with that recipe never had biryani. It looked and tasted like mushy rice hastily mixed with lamb curry. No flavor whatsoever. If you can't cook rice properly, you shouldn't open a restaurant. Oh yeah. I tried the samosas too. Equally bad. Will never go back again. If you have an enemy, recommend this restaurant.

Tiffin. It's a cute name, evoking sepia-toned images of office-bound mustachioed Englishmen in khaki, enduring the rigors of subcontinental life, far from the comforts of Blighty, sitting uncomfortably in the mid-day heat as they await their mid-day delivery of victuals from home. Poor sods. They could just as easily go next door to Elevation Burger for the relief of a good meal, as it isn't coming out of the kitchen at Tiffin. It's bad. It's the elephant in Jumanji crushing the purple '91 Chevy Caprice bad, if you'll forgive me the continued, silly, hairy-faced Brit expatriate in the Raj motif. It's bad enough that we're headed, as I type this, to Mickey D's to restore our palates, with cheeseburgers and Cokes. Frustratingly, Tiffin is well-located and nicely appointed, even if the register is all the way back next to the open kitchen. Unfortunately, the food that they're putting out reminds me of the "blue food" from "2001: A Space Odyssey." The issue? Like the "blue food," there's almost no connection between it and what it's supposed to be. The lamb roghan josh was watery, underspiced, somewhat flavorless, on the whole much more like a beef and cabbage borscht, without the saving benefit of cabbage, and, um, good taste. Although, interestingly enough, it did sport, of all things, lemongrass. No, it wasn't ginger. It was lemongrass. The chicken korma was insipid, as if someone had described the dish incompletely to a cook trying to replicate it, who then came closer to waterzooi, instead. The rice looked like it might have been basmati, but it wasn't; it was simply dry and speckled with six unfortunate peas and a few curls of carrot. I didn't try the samosa, but from my partner's description, beyond looking like a tank trap in miniature, it tasted like one, too. The fish appetizer, described as "kali mirch," or black pepper, wasn't peppery in the least, but bland and overcooked. Even the naan was off, reminding me more of matzoh that some puckish hooligan had spiked with a bit of leavening. Perhaps, most bizarre of all, was the waitress's explanation of Nepalese demographics, given by way of an answer to my question concerning the halal/non-halal status of the meat dishes being prepared in a Nepalese-heavy kitchen. Apparently, Christianity is a majority religion in Nepal. I did not know that. Seriously -- I did not know that. Tiffin? Have a cheeseburger next door, instead.

I don't know whey this doesn't have higher ratings. I had a solid lunch here today, and made a mental note to return. Delivery was quick and everything was good. I got the veggie saag and the cauliflower and potato dish. I'm satisfied.

I have only had take out from Tiffin despite various people telling me they have had bad experience there. A family member told me that when they ate at the restaurant it was obvious the food had been microwaved. I have to say that once I did see them bringing in what appeared to be pre-cooked food so they may be right. As for my experience-I got several dishes here. Two were good, and the chicken tikka was so salty I couldn't eat it. Regardless I have a problem with eating at a restaurant where the food isn't cooked there and that seems to be the case from what I observed.

We had not been at this restaurant in a while, but really enjoyed our meal and experience at Tiffin this week. The food was fresh and really good, and the wait staff was friendly, attentive and fast. Tiffin is celebrating its 8th anniversary, and so they were having $8 entree specials at each of their locations. My husband and I went to have dinner at the Wynnewood location, which is not far from where we live. We ordered their specials of the night: a grilled chicken TIkka appetizer and three entrees (chicken tikka saag, garlic shrimp curry and a lamb special) which would normally be $15, $17 and $17 per dish, but each of them were $8 that evening. We started out ordering the two entrees; Chicken tikka saag and Garlic shrimp. We were really pleased so we ordered another one which was the lamb dish. All dishes were delicious, and there was a good amount of food in quantity, so we ended up taking a lot home. We also ordered two tandoori rotis which were freshly made in the tandoor and served hot. Considering each of the dishes were $8, they did give us really nice size portions. After all this, there was no room left in our tummies for dessert (we would have loved to try the rasmalai tiramisu), but will surely do so next time around. This place is certainly under-rated, and we would definitely go back. We are planning on going there again this weekend with other family members. (I would give this a 5 star review, but went with four because--the night we dined here, it was just a really cold evening, and being seated near the entrance was a bit uncomfortable. Every time someone came in or left the restaurant, cold chilly air would come in and hit us. It would be nice if there was a screen or another door there to prevent that, but this is certainly not anything that would stop us from visiting again...)

Pretty good food. I always hesitate eating Indian food because I am always cautious about the sauces and spices, so I make sure I go with someone who knows the food more than I do. I had the chicken tandoori which was perfectly grilled and flavorful..it wasn't dry and I was eating off the bone..so it was pretty good lol I also tried the chicken biryani? from my sis which was very flavorful and cooked right..not too mushy and my best friend's chicken korma was soo good. The sauce had a nice consistency with a buttery taste to it. I don't know if that's how it's suppose to taste like lol but it was yummy... I would come back here if I'm craving for Indian when I'm in town.

Frankly, the food was AWFUL. I go out to eat Indian food quite often and Tiffin was probably the worst experience I've ever had. My chicken vindaloo was watery and tasteless, the garlic naan was soggy, and the food wasn't authentic at all. Wouldn't recommend this place to anyone.

Walked in wanted to try somewhere different, my fiancee and I walked in skeptical but once our noses caught a wif of the wonderful spices and flavors. We ordered two appetizers and one entree. The food was piping hot, fresh, and authentic. The three sauces at the table added complexity to everything we tasted. We will be back to try more menu items! I agree with a few of the other reviewers, the food could have been spicier... but this is a mainline restaurant and I understand they might be afraid to "let us have it" in fear of sending everyone home with a burnt mouth never to return. I will ask for extra spicy next time and see what happens!

I enjoyed this place. The guy who sat us, also waited on us, he was pleasant and answered my questions. Even though I am a big foodie, I am not really one to try different things. So, I liked that he had no problem explaining things to me. They have different flavors of Naan, which was nice. They brought ours out fresh out of the oven. My uncle got that mango smoothie like drink and he said he could taste the difference in that it was made fresh/well. We had those potatoes w/ peas mashed and fried in a pastry. IDK what it is called, but it was good (and I don't like peas). It came w/ 3 dipping sauces, a mango, lime and tamberine (sp). My uncle ordered that red chicken, which was ok. I had the sour cream chicken, which was really good. My uncle liked mine better too! The rice was good too. We went in the middle of the day, on a Monday, and were the only ones there.

"Meh" is a good one-word review of this place. I ordered their lamb saag, which was ok, but very bland spicing. Usually it would be quite a bit spicier. Not sure why, but there wasn't a very spinach-y taste to it either.. I've had this dish (and other saag's) at many other Indian restaurants and thought it would be a good indication of their spiciness level for other dishes. Unfortunately, although the rice was good and tasty, the atmosphere of the place is nice, the service was ok, but the food itself just didn't do it for me.

This is more like a 3.5 stars, but who's counting. I really liked the food here. It was not bland, very tasty. I even had it cold for breakfast the next day and I really liked it. So here's what we had: Aloo Pari Chaat (indian nachos, really tasty and fresh Saag Paneer (creamy, spicy, delicious) Dal (slow cooked lentils, quite delectable) Garlic Naan (awesome!) Roti (just ok, a bit bland) So the food here is on point. The service however left a bit to be desired. I wouldn't say our servers were rude but they did not go out of their way for us at all either. It was like this "we know you're hear to eat, so just order and we'll bring you food already" kind of feel. A bit odd. I'm not sure if it's true "indian" or if it's indian for the mainline but I liked the food. The restaurant itself has a nice design and big open kitchen. I'm not out that way much but for a change from the norm, Tiffin did the job.

I decided to treat myself to some tasty chicken korma, but instead I got the worst service ever. The guy at the register ignored everyone that stood around. My food sat there for 10 minutes and he never even said hello. Then he made me feel like a jerk. I would rather go somewhere else. The food is not good enough to be treated like a chump.

Over priced, poor service with waiters taking forever to not only take your order but deliver food. With only 3 other table occupied on Labor Day, one would think it would take less than 25 minutes to deliver food. Then the bill came, aaaaghh! Avoid this very poor restaurant.

    (1)
  • Lex P.
