We can always count on a good service and a great meal when we eat here. All three diners in our party started out with a salad which was fresh and topped well. Two of the three diners had ribeye steaks with different sides - both were satisfied with how it was cooked and liked their sides. The third diner had chicken parmesan which was also really good and more than enough for leftovers. Our waitress was good. We had a reservation for 1 PM on Sat May 9th and we noticed at least 5 tables that had not been cleared of cleaned once the parties left for the entire time we were there, including a large 10-person table.

AWFUL! Let me start by saying that the atmosphere was wonderful (window view of the river, and the staff was courteous). However, the seafood was not fresh, it was frozen. I ordered the seafood gumbo with two sides. The gumbo had approximately 6 miniature shrimp (salad toppers), with no other seafood included in the meal. It was supposed to have shrimp, cod, crawfish, etc. The hush puppies were dry and tasteless. The cornbread tasted like a mixture of Bisquick and cornmeal that left a very bad aftertaste in your mouth. The vegetable medley was overcooked to the point of being inedible. I mentioned this to our friendly waitress who was unsure of what to do, and did nothing. Prior to paying, I asked the waitress if I could speak with the manager. The waitress then came back with my dinner charged in full with no manager. I was told the manager was talking with someone else, but "she" would be over. After waiting several minutes, a manager finally did come to my table, but "he" was the manager from the restaurant next door! He proceeded to tell me that the manager had left but he could help me out. He did credit my gumbo and apologized. THE BOTTOM LINE: THE FOOD WAS SO BAD, I WILL NEVER GO BACK! Poor management and poorly trained help.

My fam took me here for my birthday dinner. We were seated right away and our server was very helpful with the menu and making suggestions. The food was excellent and service even better. Even had a solo performance with an original birthday song from Kathy which included a free birthday cake!!! We all really enjoyed this meal and the service... Will surely come back again.

I'll first say that the place is lovely nice views over the river. The staff was friendly. The problem was the food. The Manhattan clam chowder was so thick you could stand up your spoon in it. It was salty and spicy so it got sent back. The crab imperial was soupy and salty. The backed potato was pasty from sitting in the warming drawer for too long. The oyster Rockefeller was full of cream and soupy. I want to try this place again but I will be ready to send the food back if it is bad again

The actual building is very nice. The patio is great overlooking the River. The faucets in the bathroom are adorable. Unfortunately the food is sub par. Mine had hair in it which may have tainted my experience but overall I will not be coming back.

I am not quite sure how to rate this restaurant. I heard a lot of good things so I finally went, but I wasn't too overly impressed. I think the biggest plus for me was the layout of the place. I liked the booths and the view, and my absolute favorite thing was the sink in the bathroom (hey, it counts as part of the experience). When it comes to the food however, I wasn't overly impressed. And let's face it, when you go out to eat that is the main thing. Your service could be lousy, the place could be a dump, but if the food is good there's reason to dine. I want to give this place a better review, but right now I can't. It'll have to accept this for now until I can give it another try.

My husband and I have had a lot of bad dining experiences lately, so when we FINALLY had a good one, I felt compelled to review it. Both of our dinners were excellent ! I had the apricot -glazed salmon, and he had the scallops. Our server, Scott, was efficient and knowledgeable. Everyone seemed pleasant. I would not hesitate to recommend this restaurant!

I dine here fairly often - it's close and the views are spectacular. The service is always good. I have to admit that the food does not excite me. I have never had anything that just made me want to rush back and have it again. The hush puppies are good, but I like crusty bread and their's is soft. Would like to see some more true seafood apps - not just bar food. The oysters are overpriced. Actually, now that I type this I remember the best thing I ever had there was the turkey club. Not a good recommendation for a seafood restaurant.

Came in for a late night dinner. We were seated outdoors immediately. No music playing so it seemed like it seemed dead. Bread and hush puppies were as good as others have said. Wife had jambalaya and it was really good - just spicy enough - but no shrimp. I had shrimp and broccoli alfredo. Very generous portions. Worth a repeat visit.

WORST EXPERIENCE! do yourself a favor! I went to Rock Bass to celebrate graduating college and was refused a drink because my sister did not have her Id. She was my designed driver and had no plan of drinking. The poor management of the establishment was clearly displayed as no one (including the waitress, "manager," etc.) was even able to explain why I could not get served. As some one who frequents Harrisburg area restaurants, I have never had an experience like this before. I am very dissapointed. From now on, I will take my money elsewhere.

Poor experience because we walked in and were seated at a nice very large table with a water view of the bridge into Harrisburg. That was good and the place looked like a generally higher end place. Where it went wrong was that it was just about 50 minutes after the brunch was over and there were only 2 tables occupied and 3 people at the bar. The issue was that we sat there waiting for someone to come by and we sat as person after person walked by slowly doing nothing. After 10 minutes we decided it was time to leave. This was difficult for me as I was starving, too. As we left, my girlfriend let them know in no uncertain terms that the place "sucked."

In the area on a business trip and wanted to try some seafood. I had never had Oysters before so ordered a few to try. Oysters are good priced and then are half off from 4-6pm. We sat at bar. Staff all seemed unfriendly and bar waitress we had was the worst. Also very inattentive. Never asked how things were and when asked about trying oysters she said "i have no idea I don't eat those things." Menu was a little pricey but that may be normal for the area. Food was EXCELLENT. Well worth a visit for food quality alone, even with the bad service.

My mother and I had Saturday reservations for 7 pm, and even though we got there a bit early, the table was ready! Water was provided immediately without even having to ask, and our drinks (iced tea and lemonade- not sure if alcoholic drinks would have taken longer). We had read other reviews about the slow service, and were expecting the worst. While the server did seem a bit rushed at first and took a while to take our orders and give us out bread, overall we were in and out in about an hour. Nothing unreasonable. As for the food, the hush puppies were AMAZING. They were hot and crispy and the cinnamon butter was perfect. We also got the crab pretzel app and I would definitely recommend it. It was hot and cheesy with plenty of crab. Definitely get this. It was too much for the two of us, and ended up taking about half of it home. For the entree I got the blackened mahi mahi with mango salsa, baked potato, and cucumber salad. I very much enjoyed my meal. My mother had her heart set on the fried oyster entree that she saw on the online menu, but when we did not see it on the menu in the restaurant, she asked was given a hesitant "well... I can ask the chef about preparing it as an entree..." So my mom just settled on getting the fried oyster app with the seafood stuff baked potato on the side. She enjoyed the stuffed potato, but she thought the oysters were too salty and a bit overcooked-they were tough (which is why only 4/5 stars). Overall, we would definitely come back here again for a nice dinner. Next time I'd try to eat out on the deck if it is a nice night. However the inside was very nice and I wouldn't say no to that either!

Big mistake giving this place a shot. Walked in to a nearly empty restaurant for lunch. Sat down at a table in the middle of the main room and made our menu decisions quickly. Closed up those menus and waited for someone to come to the table to take our order (or maybe even just welcome us with some water). But no. It was utterly mind-blowing to watch server after server just wandering through the dining room with these dazed looks in their eyes as they glazed right over us and just kept going. I counted 5 servers who simply ignored us - but did so in this state of looking confused, stoned or lost... it got to the point where it was entertaining to see them just slowly roaming through the dining room like dim-witted cows in a field. As we left, I told the 7 hostesses (or whatever that huge crowd was behind their hostess desk) that their restaurant sucked. I literally said, "Your restaurant sucks. We sat there forever and NO ONE came by". No response. I'm thinking the staff at this place just isn't very bright at all. Then we went into town and told everyone that RockBass Grill sucked and everyone we talked to said this place has a horrible reputation for horrendous service. We saw that it had 3.5 stars. It was a mistake giving them the benefit of the doubt. Life is too short to pay that kind of money for anything less than STELLAR service.

First Sunday Brunch we've tried here in Harrisburg. We entered the restaurant and there were two workers at front desk. None of them greeted us. Finally someone who was seating another group at least acknowledged us by saying she would be right back. Once at our table we asked our waitress if the had bottomless mimosas. She looked at us like we were crazy and said no. The whole time serving us she smiled once. If you hate your job that bad go look for a better one. Don't take it out on the customers. The two pluses was the view of the river from our table and their bathroom were modern and clean. Spending over $100 dollars on three people, we should've received better service. Definitely not coming back here and would not recommend this place to anyone.

If you love fresh oysters and don't mind paying a high price for them, then this is great. There aren't too many options for fresh oysters in the Harrisburg area, so I tend to pay up to get them. Service, though, is mixed. Can be slow and inattentive. The entrees are decent, but nothing that makes them stand out from other area seafood restaurants. If the weather is good and you're on a date, the dining on the deck option is nice. Spacious inside with a large bar, although alcohol prices are a little steep for the area, if you ask me.

The foods just not that great. I'm currently downing as much liquid as possible due to the food being sooo salty. Presentation very lacking, my "seared" scallops were served soggy on a soggy piece of lettuce. Risotto served in a tiny bowl, looked like rice pudding and didn't taste much better. Coconut shrimp appetizer fried to death and hush puppies cold and old. Serious buyers remorse (and thirst).

My wife and a group of our friends dined here last Thursday, and had take out from here on Friday. I guess you could say we liked it! We sat at a large table outside overlooking the Susquehanna River and City Island. We ordered steamed clams and mussles.....each of us had something different. My wife had jambalaya, which she liked a lot. I had the catch of day (flounder) broiled with lemon and butter. We also shared a crab cake. We all had salads. The food was good..very good...my only complaint would be that the steamed clams and mussles were on the cold side...we, however, were too hungry to send them back, and they were tasted wonderfully, except for the temp. Would recommend this place for its romantic setting, as well. The inside is really well appointed and warm, and the bar is roundish and it surrounded, in part, by windows facing the river and the outdoor patio. Nice staff and friendly ++++ service!

Was seated along the wall of glass windows overlooking the river. It was a nice setting to enjoy after travelling all day. Ordered the Rock Bass Crabcakes. Delcious with large chunks of crab and not much filler.

We had dinner on a Friday. I made reservations over the Internet which was very quick and easy. We were sat immediately, and our server was helpful and friendly. The food was fantastic, I would recommend this restaurant to anyone. I look forward to my next visit.

My classmates and I keep passing by here when we head home but never had time to eat out thanks to our busy schedule. Finally the quarter ended and we were able to come. First, the view of the river is so soothing! Makes one feel absolutely tranquil after 2 weeks of grueling exams and finals! Now for the food (huge proportions, it's a good idea to do family style): Bread and cinnamon butter- unique, sweet. Fried shrimp- The golden brown batter went amazingly with the plumpness of that shrimp! Sea bass- well cooked, juicy, but under-seasoned. Jambalaya- tasty, not spicy at all, generous amount of shrimp, chicken and sausage, but about 1 cm of oil at the bottom of the dish. Pecan crusted yam- the caramelized crust was what made this dish Fish and chips- taste fresh and crispy. more batter than fish, but it was still satisfying. Broccoli- The garlic and butter made it so so yummy! Cocktails- my goodness, I'm a light weight and usually get buzzed with just a half a cup. But I drank a whole glass and nothing! Didn't even taste alcohol so I paid around $10 for a glass of pink juice. Thanks Rock Bass Grill for a great celebratory dinner!

To start off, I didn't think the inside would have been as nice as it actually was. Inside was gorgeous, or maybe is it because it's the holidays and there was more decoration than probably normal? Not sure. But I feel like it's a more "dressy" atmosphere, than casual and laid-back - Not a bad thing though. We weren't greeted by the staff. All three of them were just glaring at us as we walked up to the desk, and having a manager being one of them, I'd think he'd know better than that. So I just had to tell them we had four people, then we were told to follow. It was night and we sat at a booth with window view of the river. It doesn't give you a great view of the city as you'd think. Inside was so bright, the lights were basically reflecting off the window that you couldn't see outside. It probably looks better in sunlight. So don't stress if you're taking someone on a romantic date and you don't get window seat, it's nothing to miss out on at night. Well, for a one-and-only positive they definitely have a big variety of food, a few pages of a huge menu. Our waiter wasn't friendly either - he knew his stuff - but put a smile on, last kind of person I want serving me is a grump. Well, let me just get right to the point here. I had Chicken Parmesan, which was a decent portion for $17.00, um that would have been an alright price if the FOOD DIDN'T TASTE LIKE CRAP. I tried the Bahama Mama and the Carribean Punch - the drinks tasted horrible. Nothing good to say about this place, sorry. Oh wait a second, the parking is great. They have their own huge lot - here's a second positive. NOT enough to bring me back.

Went there last night and they were not very busy, server was good food was slow coming out, order crab cake with mashed potatoes which was awesome a little cold, also the rice was a little bland and undercooked, but luv the hush puppies, will be going back again!!

I've been the Rock Bass Grill a few times before. The best thing about the place is the view - 5 stars. Drinks? - 5 stars. It's not super hard to serve beer, and we all know that beer tastes better when you're looking at something cool like the Susquehanna river. The food? I give it 3 stars - the quality is definitely not as high as their prices (which are high), but it's also not the worst I've ever had. None of it is memorable as I cannot name a single dish I've ever ordered. What you need to know: food. They serve overpriced food. Service: avoid the senior-sounding person who books their large tables. I give her negative one zillion million stars for her rude attitude and unwarranted sass over the phone today when I tried to make a reservation. She really just squashed the whole thing for me. Nice work, senior-sounding person, nice work. So, all things considered, my precise calculation comes out to one star.

Had the Sea Bass and loved it. They need more options for those who dislike seafood. However, service was extremely slow. Also, a coworker found a hair in her food. Staff was great at appearing empathetic to the situation.

We went to the Rock Bass Grill for dinner last night. There were high points and so-so experiences, but overall, we had a good meal. There was a great selection of fresh fish with options to have it grilled (wood-fired grill), blackened, pan fried, etc. and accompanied by one of three sauces or salsas. The good: - The Jambalaya. Heavily spiced, the Jambalaya (with chicken, sausage and shrimp) is not for the faint of heart. The spice is both a bit hot (but not overly so) and deep. What's most surprising about this dish is the HUGE portion. The bowl can feed a family of four...and it comes with two sides! For $19.95, this is the best deal on the menu. - Bread basket. Oh my, those hush puppies and the cinnamon butter...heaven! - Variety. Steaks, sandwiches, salads, seafood, tons of specialty drinks...there's something for everyone! The so-so: - While my swordfish was tasty, it was a bit under-seasoned and just a tad overcooked. There was no flavor from the wood-fired grill. The presentation was severely lacking and the Tropical Mango Salsa had little flavor and was presented in a dish on the side of the plate. The Parmesan Risotto had no flavor whatsoever. However, my husband's Sweet Potato Casserole was delicious...I wish I had ordered that! My dining companions had a steak, the fried oysters with the seafood stuffed baked potato, the Ahi Tuna with salad (appetizer) and the shrimp cocktail. They loved it all. I do have to say that the Rock Bass Grill would do better if they had a Surf & Turf option for those who would like to have both. They did not.

My wife and I found this place on yelp. We love food and new places, this place fit the bill. Food was excellent. Service was a little slow at the beginning but then became alright. Atmosphere was just right for us, just what we like. Dinner was on one side and bar on the other, good separation. The only gripe I have was the prices, granted its mostly all seafood market prices. Over all we liked this place, more than likely will be going back.

We've eaten at Rock Bass a few times now and once again we had a great time. My fried shrimp were fresh and humongous, along with the yummy mac and cheese. My son had the fish/chips and was equally pleased. Apple crisp and fudge brownie for dessert made it complete. Our server Ashley was very sweet and attentive as well. Even though the restaurant was busy, Ashley made sure we were taken care of :)

After driving here planning on eating at Willies next door where they told us outside was for 21+ only, we went next door to the ROck Bass Grill and boy am I glad we did! The atmosphere is way nicer, casual elegance with great service, some of the best I have come across. They have a nice mix of fairly priced menu items as well as entrees for about $20-$30. We kept it simple and I had the tuna steak sandwich with salad, the man softchell crab and the boy a burger with mac n cheese. Our entrees were $10 each, the kids $5 and came with a full size burger and the grown up mac n cheese which was pretty tasty, as well as an ice cream sundae for dessert which he was too full to finish (this is a first for my 8 year old!) The tuna and crab was very well done and at that price a great deal. We had a very nice evening and were brought two baskets with rolls, hushpuppies, salted butter and cinnamon butter, all very good. The view is beautiful, in all a great place for a romantic dinner.

Let me begin by stating that the staff was extremely friendly. Which is why it was difficult to send the food back. Horrible. The worst steak I have ever had. It tasted reheated, the mashed potatoes as well. I was happy with the service. She compensated by giving me desserts to take home to my teenager and cut the steak fee in half.

So, my girlfriend took me here recently for happy hour. Bar staff was kinda slow and misguided, but nice. Drink specials are pretty awesome...1/2 off drinks (who can't be happy about that?!). Family is from MD so I know good crab and crab dip when I see it. With that being said, crab pretzel is AMAZING. If I want to go into a diabetic coma or immediately increase my blood glucose I am going to get this freakish log of bread with this creamy layer of crustacean. I was in a zen like state as I consumed this love boat of seafood after a long day of work. Top it off with 3 makers marks and I'm about to waltz into the gates of heaven to tell saint peter himself that I found the meaning of life.

Had dinner at RockBass Sunday evening. I was looking forward to this as my previous dining experiences were all positive here. Was hoping my BF would be impressed as well but we were both disappointed. No mention of their specials for the day...service was S L O W.... And the food presentation was blah... BF wasn't impressed with his Mahi Mahi and my haddock was just ok. The server did become slightly more attentive when it got a little later in the evening and she apparently was getting ready to end her shift. Would think twice before we go back.

The atmosphere is comfortable and relaxing. It is esthetically pleasing in regards to the decor. Our server, Morgan, came to the table quickly and brought waters. She asked if we had any questions off the menu, offered suggestions, and was very friendly. I got the 12 oz filet mignon, mac and cheese, and potatoes off of the seasonal menu and my mom got the seabass and side salad. She says all of her food was excellent. The mac and cheese was very good; however, my steak was slightly underdone and dry. Despite this though the food was overall excellent, it was a great atmosphere, and the service was good as well. All in all, I would recommend.

Decent food, fair service and surroundings with a good view of the river. As other reviews have stated--the food is not bad, its just not that great. Waitress not on her game tonight. I ordered a zinfandel for wine, and she brought me a white Zinfandel and acted like she didn't know the difference. Had to ask for water glassed to be filled. Had the blackened mahi. Again, not bad, just not worth $21.00 for what I got.

I hate to feel ripped off and that is how I felt with dining at Rock Bass. For the prices this place charges it is just ordinary .... 32.00 for 4 shrimp and one crab cake? But that really is not really main issue. This restaurant hasn't been around for decades and never changed it's menu to reflect the change it people wants and needs. So there is no excuse to serve the same old tired food you would expect 25 years ago. Ya ya, ya.... They will grill, broil or whatever your fish. The sides taste like they came from Sysco. Merge Central Pennsylvania and a more up to date menu. Show some interest. It was 6:30 on a Thursday night and there were two parties. Us and some people playing cellphone tag. Not once did anyone come back and ask if we were doing okay or wanted refills. I was here once before a couple of years ago and swore I would never come back. My husband talked me into it. Nope not again. This area has an opportunity to grow and change.....but not with places like this. So bad!!

Very pretty setting and great service. Nice selection of draught beers Fresh rolls and hush puppies delicious. The grilled Sea Bass was superb but the swordfish was dry and tasteless. My son got a huge serving of Jambalya that was quite tasty. The salads were good. Will definitely go again .

Went for lunch after finding it in Yelp. Great food, neat location with view of river. Had seafood chowder, it was excellent! Fish tacos which were also great with huge pieces of Mahi and just right amount of kick to the sauce. Would most definitely go back!

I swore I would never go back here again, because I don't think the food is that great, but when the opportunity presented itself I decided to give it one more try. I splurged for lunch and ordered the seafood mac and cheese, which is DY_NO_MITE!!!!! There was enough leftover for dinner the next day, so at $10 a meal, its a deal, right??? 5 star view 3 star food and service

I've eaten here a bunch of times and was previously very satisfied with my meals. However, recently the food has been below par. The hush puppies and biscuits at the beginning of my meal were the best part. I got the Mahi Mahi fish tacos (previously made with tilapia), the portion was small and the rice was down right awful (I told the waitress that it tasted like Uncle Bens/from a box, and she said it probably was).

  • Mike D.

Can't knock the view. Other than that, theres not much to say about Rock Bass. It is way overpriced for what you get -overcooked shrimp, undercooked scallops, salad literally peppered with a ton of pepper, chunks of red onion. Decent tilapia however and the mac & cheese, sweet potato fries, are quite good. Solid service earned this place an extra star, friendly and knowledgable about the menu. That and the romantic setting notwithstanding, our next visit to the West Shore waterfront will almost certainly be to one of the other establishments that looked to be jumping with action.

Me and my family decided to come here on a tuesday night (due to my dad's birthday). We were immediately seated at a riverside table, which has a great view of the river and city island's trees. Our waitress was... a bit... off... She was a tad slow, but she was very helpful with telling us all of the specials, fresh catches, and which they were out of. I had ordered the fried shrimp and crabcake meal with mac&cheese and mashed potatoes ($25). After ordering, the waitress gave us rolls and hush puppies... the rolls were sort of hard and the hush puppies tasted like oniony doughnut holes (which i didn't mind). Food eventually came out. It was ALOT of food. But, it sure tasted good. The shrimp were HUGE and plump (but greasy and battered/fried), the crabcake was mostly crab (hardly any cake), mashed potatoes were okay, and the mac&cheese had a great crust that tasted like it was crumbled ritz crackers. tasty. There was no way i would've been able to finish the whole plate. But, it made me (and my stomach) happy. I would recommend this place to any seafood lover, as there is a limited non-seafood menu, but they DO have a decent steak menu. They also have an extensive wine list and have a brunch menu.

Eat here fairly regularly since its a few blocks from home and I've never had a bad meal. The seafood Mac and cheese is huge and delicious. The River Barge salad and a crab cake side is a great way to roll.

Better than I expected! That said, I must admit I expected very little of this small-town fancy-ish spot. Mostly average food, with most definitely not worth their carbs/calories but admittedly palatable nonetheless, combined with friendly service and a nice view warrants 3 stars instead of two. Or maybe I'm just in the holiday spirit! Either way, I can now check off dining at a restaurant that serves cinnamon sugar butter with its bread basket!

This is a great location/view but the food is disappointing. I've had a very bland seafood pasta dish and typical bar food type appetizers. For the quality I think its seriously over priced. I would do dockside willies just next door. If I'm going for seafood and a little more upscale I would hit Devon in Hershey. They know how to do seafood!

To start off - this is one of the better seafood restaurants in Harrisburg. Sorry to all the locals, but I have not been impressed by the restaurants in Harrisburg save a few. Rock Bass is in the small list of my "soon to be favorites" restaurants of Harrisburg :) We went there for dinner on a Friday Summer evening - the place was quite full and we were lucky to get a table outside by the water. Service was good and our waitress was attentive and suggested good stuff off the menu. I always like to know what are the popular dishes in the restaurant and most times I get the standard response "It's all good here". That to me means that either the waiter staff has no clue of the food served or they dont care to find out what's good in the restaurant they work at. i have seen this at attitude at more restaurants than not :( But Rock Bass was different - our waitress suggested we get Seafood Skins for appetizers and she was right - it did taste good even though it had a bit too much cheese than my liking but I'm not complaining. We wanted to order Mahi Mahi for main course but they were sold out so we ordered Grouper which was yummy - great seasoning on the fish :) I had the full lobster which was delicious too. For sides we had corn on the cob (good), baked potatoes (done just right) and sweet potatoes (bit much of cinnamon for my liking) The portions are big so we could have skipped appetizers. Had Key Lime pie for dessert and it was to my liking - real lime and not just chemicals! Will definitely return...

Bottom line: Go for the view. Food isn't bad, it's just average. I prefer it for lunch when you want a nice sized booth with a view to enjoy the meal with a co-worker. Their seafood is definitely better than fried fish sticks at a diner, however it's not anything like you'd get at one of the better seafood chains (none of which - regrettably - are in the Harrisburg area). Their appetizers are run of the mill. Nothing exciting, unique, or different from other traditional American seafood places. The raw bar is as to be expected - just don't expect to pay the same price you do at your favorite dive bar at the beach. Their entree lunches are good for lunch even if a bit pricey. Sandwiches are standard restaurant options. They do offer a burger with a crabcake on a bun which I've heard is good if they cook the burger properly. The steaks, entrees, pastas are, again, pretty typical. Even their "specialties" are nothing interesting. Across the board, the prices are a little high. Again, you're paying for the view.

I'm almost ashamed to admit it but I left no tip when I left Rock Bass Grill. And I wasn't even paying since I could expense this. As usual when by myself I found a spot at the bar and ordered a beer. The bartender (Jodi) was tough to track down despite the fact the place wasn't that busy. I found a menu myself and once my beer arrived I asked how the steaks were. I usually suggest the seafood. OK - I appreciate the honesty. There was a special of littlenecks. A half pound was only $5. What a deal. I ask if they are on the half shell and she nods yes. So I order them to start and paruse the menu further. In 10 minutes she brings the plate and they're cooked. Do you know what a little necks look like cooked? Picture a pencil eraser .... and the texture is about the same. I was about to question if they knew what "on the half shell" was but she disappeared and never asked how they were. In fact over the next 15 minutes she avoided all eye contact. Growing less patient I raised my voice and said I was ready to order. She acknowledged but continued about her business and continued avoiding eye contact - this lasted another 5 minutes until I had had enough and again raised my voice for the check. "Oh - you're ready to order?" she said - at which point she brought the check at mach speed. I'm not making this up! I felt completely unwanted. I hope other yelpers in Harrisburg have better luck here. And if you're from New England don't assume anything - especially little necks on the half shell.

Review is for two dinners i've had recently. First time I tried the seafood mac n cheese. Took 5 bites before I got any seafood. Had a few bay scallops, a few tiny salad shrimp, and some shreds of seafood that might have been lobster claw. 2nd time I tried the lobster roll. Good amount of lobster meat, but it had a fishy taste/smell. Was loaded with mayo and served on a piece of toast that you couldn't pick up without it falling apart. Service was pretty slow as well. Overall, there are better places to eat. Sidenote: Have gone for sunday brunch which has been pretty good.

Arrived Friday evening with our group of five with reservations and was seated promptly in a window booth, as requested. But, we were seated in the bar area and the noise was literally deafening. No music, just people unwinding noisily on a Friday after work. We had to shout to be heard across the table. The service was excellent and our waiter Page was efficient, attentive and friendly. Three had crab cakes and raved about them. They looked delicious, all lump, no filler. One had salmon and said it was excellent. I had a hamburger that was OK. What do you expect at a seafood restaurant? Saw the moon rise over the Susquehanna and Market Street Bridge Georgeous view. We've been here before and will definitely go back, but ask for a booth in the restaurant area next time.

Enjoyed our meal and view of the river. Though, I did not like the fact that people were allowed to smoke on the deck. Our waiter was excellent, she was attentive. I had the 7 oz. filet, it was cooked well. My husband had the crab imperial, which was also quite tasty. Appetizer was bangin shrimp, nicely sized jumbos with a spicy but flavorful sauce. The bistro mashed side dish was tasty.

Went to Rock Bass for first time today. Had the Rock Bass, Waiter pushed it pretty hard, and I thought it was pretty good, Nice Flavor, Mango salsa was a nice compliment. Mashed Potato side was tasty, the Veg was a little better than the average Brocolli Carrot mix, (included pepper ) My Side salad was definantly better then average with spinach leaves and pepper in addition to the ICeberg, tomato, Onion Carrot typically found. While the roll came with an apple butter or something similar the Corn Fritter was poor, I've had better at Long John Silvers. I noted that the Crab Pretzel is on the menu, I believe it is a couple of bucks higher than at Dukes ( Which I understand is owned by the same people ) So you are paying for the view and the quiet. The food was good, probably not quite worth the charge. Service was good , view was nice, easy to talk to my dining companions. I'd go back but it probably would not be my first choice.

Came here with a coworker when I was here on business. Went in September and took advantage of the weather still being nice and sat on the deck out back that is overlooking the river. The view and vibe out there was really nice. Walked through the dining room and it was pretty fancy. Food was good. I got one of the specials, scallops and a really delicious sauce. I teetered between 3 and 4 stars on this one. If I could, I would give it 3 1/2 (but of course I can't so why am I even mentioning it). Food was good but very expensive. Service was less than great. The Waiter kept coming back to the table to ask us our orders every time we ordered anything (drinks, appetizers, dinner). I'm sorry what did you order again? Which became quite the joke by the end of the meal. I'd go back again if I was in the area.

I will agree with Amy G who reviewed Rock Bass previously. I came here with my wife, Mom, brother and son to celebrate my grandma's birthday. We got a large table for the 7 of us(my Mom's friend came along too). The food was plentiful and the service was great, but it seems like the menu is too large. We ordered appetizers and I ordered the cream of crab which was very heavy -it felt like a whole stick of butter and heavy cream was used in it. It does have a lot of crab meat in it too, which was cooked well. I ordered a Stoudt's shandy with my meal which was refreshing and seemed to cut some of the fat. The main course for me was crab hash from the Brunch menu. This was a huge portion of two poached eggs atop a mix of hashbrowns, cheese, crab and sauteed peppers and onions. I ony at half and took the rest home because it seemed heavy from the excess butter the peppers and onions were sauteed in. We all enjoyed the food the portions were huge and as my wife and I looked around the dining room the majority of the tables had to go boxes so it seems to be common for the menu to have extra large portions. My grandma was treated to a birthday cake complete with a lit candle and she loved it. I would probably give a 3.5 for the service and variety of menu choices including brunch if I could, but I will stick with my rating since I think the menu could use updating even if the entrees taste good, the emphasis on lighter healthier food is not there.

My wife and I recently came here for a get together with people from her work (about 13 people total.) This was my first time there, my wife's second. The staff was very friendly and helpful and they had two waitresses attend our table because it was a larger party...they all handled everything well. The atmosphere was really nice and the room we were in was decorated like you were in a cruise ship (it's located right on the river,) so I concur with others that the view and decor is a definite plus. The food was good, not amazingly great, but very good. My wife got the seafood mac & cheese and she loved it (I thought the combo sounded odd, but tasted some and enjoyed it.) I got fried shrimp and crab cake and both were done right. The portions were pretty big and definitely filled us up. The prices were one of my biggest reasons for rating this 'average' and not 'great'... it was pretty expensive, and although you did get big portions, just my wife and I spent close to $100 and only had the two meals and 2 beers each. I would probably come back for a 'date night' though because it was a good experience and I would like to try out some other items on the menu.

One of the best seafood restaurants in Harrisburg. My experience: my wife and I ate there one night (I had the broiled scallops: fantastic) and we had a booth by the gigantic windows overlooking the river, city island, and Harrisburg. To our surprise there was a fireworks show after the Harrisburg Senators game. It was a fantastic night cap to our meal. Note: If you can make reservations on a night when there is fireworks after the baseball it makes for an amazing evening.

Food was pretty good as well as drinks, we'll def. go back. It's a little pricey, but I expected that. I got the broiled seafood platter all was good, except the white fish, not sure what it was but it was small and chewy and little flavor. Wife had the Seafood mac and cheese, and that was delicious and fairly priced, and we had lot's of leftovers for the next day. Give it a try if you are in the mood for seafood and don't mind spending $20 a meal.

I desperately want this place to be good, but it seems to be going down hill. It has a great location by the river, it's close to my house and I like the atmosphere inside....so I keep going back. But the service and food quality continue to disappoint me. Like others have noted, the menu is really too large. As a result they seem to rely too heaviliy on packaged or prepared items - rice mixes, jarred salsa, salad dressings (their Greek dressing is bottle Gazebo Room). The last time I was there for a girls' night out - the waitress looked bothered by us and didn't check on us or offer to bring fresh drinks. We had planned on spending the evening there - but moved on to another bar for after dinner drinks. I'm an optimist, so I'll probably try them again - but if the service does not improve, I'll certainly not make it a habit.

Reserved a the "private" room at Rock Bass for a private party, since we have lots of kids in our party. The servers were good - they got the kids food out first - nice touch. The only downside was, they didn't get our food out till after the kids had finished... The crab pretzel was great! I heard good things about the lobster bisque, scallops and the assiago risotto. The pork was a little overcooked, and the seared tuna was too... I had the fish tacos...as expected, the fish was good, the rest wasn't...I should have stuck with the crab cakes :) Portions were large (as were the prices). I'd go back, with a smaller crowd - to enjoy the view of the river. The servers did a GREAT job with separate checks and were very accommodating. Restroom Review - 3 out of 10. Doesn't come close to matching the restaurant's style, class or feel...it had the look, smell and cleanliness of a metro station...rather disappointing.

My husband & I ate at Rock Bass Grill last night for the 1st time. The location is pretty cool, as it's right on the river in Harrisburg, but it was dark so we didn't see much out the windows. I liked the atmosphere inside & although it was crowded, it wasn't too noisy. Service was fair. It seemed that we were served appetizers, salads, and bread with hushpuppies (which were complimentary) all at the same time...I hate that! I had ahi tuna for an appetizer, which was not what I expected. I assumed this was going to be peppered, sushi grade tuna. I was wrong. It was a thick tuna steak (one that you can buy frozen at the grocery store) covered in black & white sesame seeds. It wasn't bad, but really lacked any flavor (no salt or pepper!). My husband had oysters..no complaints. He ordered the wood fired grilled trout with lemon chive butter on the side and the fish still came out greasy! He said Red Lobster has them beat on their trout! I had jambalaya which was really good (but very oily)...a HUGE portion, so needless to say, I brought more than half of it home for lunch! We enjoyed their large selection of specialty drinks. The Pome martini was super good! Overall, not too bad. A tad pricey. Unsure if we'd go back again.

One of the nice things about Rock Bass is that it consistently delivers. We've been there several times and each time the food has been wonderful. The soups are to die for, though I must admit the Maryland crab was not to my taste. The rolls and hush puppies with cinnamon butter are heavenly. The menu is diverse, which is nice. It also seems like the chef/management also understands what a seasonal menu should be. Every time we've ordered a seasonal item, it has surpassed our expectations. The oyster pie is especially wonderful. The river view is gorgeous, and it's nice that there is no deck. Every diner is able to enjoy the river view.

Actual day of visit was 2/23/12. I should've tried the salmon. The CENTER CUT PORK STEAK was unremarkable and had nothing but an unappetizing char / ashes flavor. The menu described it as a 14 oz. center cut pork steak seasoned and wood fire grilled to perfection. Served with mashed potatoes, sauteed spinach and topped with a wild mushroom demi-glaze. The demi-glaze was more like a thick gravy and it had a weird flavor and texture. The sides were good and that was about it. Also, our server wasn't very friendly AT ALL and drink refills were NEVER offered. All in all, my party of 3 had a disappointing visit to the RockBass. 2 stars for food and service, 4 stars for the location / view.

A great meal and night out. We got there at 7PM and parked in a large log directly across the stree. The place was full, but I had a reservation through OpenTable and we were set. I thanked the man who held the door for us and asked if he was coming or going; turned out he was the manager/owner Don who owns Dockside Willies, and Dukes as well. I explained that we had driven in from Lancaster to try this restaurant and he asked the host to get us a window table (which we had not been assigned originally). We got a nice table in 5 minutes by the river, though it was dark this time of year, it was still nice as was the gesture. I had a cocktail off the Speciality Menu, and I didn't want something sweet so I chose Grand Smash which was Grand Marnier, muddled lemons and mint. It was fabulous and I plan to make that at home in the near term. Must get some GM! Both of us had the salmon with Hoisin sauce, spinach and brown rice. It was excellent in all regards. Absolutely nothing to complain about, except maybe too big a portion! I can recommend the coconut shrimp appetizer as well. The waitress, Sharon, was top notch, pleasant, attentive, and knowledgeable. It was a pleasure to do business with her. And, I've got say, I'm not known for my compliments; but some people make your life better and some dont't. She did. Just as we were leaving a band was setting up in the lounge, but I couldn't possibly have had another drink or a nibble of food waiting for that to happen. I'm going back! I'd like the prices to be about $3 cheaper, but one has to pay something for the ambience and the view.

Went here with a fairly large party of people from my office, and the best thing about it was the service--the two waitresses who had our party were friendly & on top of it the whole night. The food is kind of meh as others have pointed out--lots of entrees that are catering to the Great American Diet of high carbs and fat. Would be nice if they had some fish that wasn't crusted in cheese or breadcrumbs. Has a decent bar, at least. And the view of the river is nice--there was a brief thunderstorm & then a double rainbow visible from our tables.

If this is the place to go for seafood in Harrisburg, we are in serious trouble. I haven't been to a place so renowned for seafood and then actually experienced a third rate atmosphere and food like this before. The restaurant itself looks cheaply done and almost tacky. I would not call this place upscale at all although it seems to be one of the few places to go to "impress" people. The main thing it has going for it is the view of the river. The food, I can sum up in two words. Bland. Simple. Very little seasoning, very little to it. You get exactly the item you order as if you cooked it yourself. I wouldn't have thought the food I got was restaurant quality at all, let alone pay $15 minimum for an entree. I was pretty hyped to check this place out because of the word of mouth from others and the extensive menu. Unfortunately it seems Harrisburg has few alternatives for seafood so this place gets the default business. Seems like Passage to India syndrome to me. This place seems like it is trying to recreate the 94th Aerosquadron in College Park, MD but has failed miserably.

Great night view of the Susquehanna and the humble city skyline. A huge menu; perhaps too large. I recommend ordering off the fresh-catch board. The New England Clam chowder was excellent. A bit too pricey for what ya get (but portion sizes are decent).

This is a very poor restaurant. I have eaten here a few times all sub par. Last time we went it was with another couple who had already decided to go here. We figured we would give it 1 more try --big mistake. They other guy and I both ordered a plate of oysters. The oysters were delicious except the person shucking them did not know how to do it. The oysters were full of shell fragments to the point we choked on them. We then waited close to an hour for the waiter to come back to the table. He immediately brought us our food but it was frankly inedible. My wife's flounder had an ammonia smell and my catch of the day salmon was mostly raw. Since we were late for a play due to the terrible service, and they other couple picked the place, we just paid and left. While going to the play the other couple apologized and said their meals were equally inedible. I decided to call Rock Bass to express our disappointment and a manager told me they would make it up to us. They asked for another chance to do better and made promises of a gift card to try again. Two weeks later I get a note from them with a 10% off coupon and that was that. It was insulting but seems typical of this restaurant. Too many other places with better food and service.

What's good? Wide selection of fresh fish. The crab soup was good as well as the sides. Downside - asked for snapper, you can get it baked, grilled, pan fried, etc., so I asked for it baked. The seasonings were so thick that you couldn't taste the fish. I was able to scrap most of it off and it was pretty good after that - cooked nicely, still moist. The restaurant is on the river and has great views.

I'm not a seafood fan, but ended up here for a business function. I was disappointed with the lack of non-seafood dishes. There was not much for me to order from and what I did order (fried chicken strips) were over seasoned and overcooked. They came out very dry and tough. I did enjoy the bread and my company seemed to enjoy their food. Atmosphere was nice. Worth checking out if you like seafood, otherwise stay clear.

I am in town on business and heard some of the folks talking about their experience at Rock Bass Grill so I decided to find out where it was and give it a shot. I went on Tuesday, March 13, 2012. First of all, the young lady at the front desk was not very friendly. This was my first time there and I didn't know they offered outdoor seating along the river. It was quite a beautiful evening and outdoor seating would have been wonderful. The server had about the same demeanor. The wood-fire grilled snapper and red potatoes I ordered was excellent however I probably won't have the cucumber salad again. I waited quite sometime once I got my meal before the server came by to see if I needed anything else. When I needed another glass of tea she advised me of their "no free refills" policy which I thought was ridiculous since they charge so much for the food and drinks already but that was ok. I went to have dinner at a restaurant that I was referred to, the food was good but the service was less than desirable for a restaurant that charges as much as they do. I'm not so sure that I'll be going back and I will definitely check out other places beforehand.

We went there during Happy Hour and wanted to have dinner later. They seated us in the dinning room and would not let us order specials from the pub ($4.99 appetizers). The orange crush drink special is disgusting, it's like water down Tang with vodka. Don't pay extra for the seafood stuffed potato ($3+ w/entree, $6+w/o), there is hardly any seafood, they just put a small amount of creamed crab soup on top of the potato. The potato pancake was powerfully sour. Over all it was okay, but expensive. Our waiter could be more pleasing, everything we asked for he would say no or I will check...I would not pick this place, I was forced to go there for a friend's b-day.

we recently went here for dinner. one ordered red snapper and it was dry. two ordered crabcake with salad and the crabcake was very good but burnt on the bottom and the salad was a lot of greens with a few slices of portabella mushrooms and soggy, water-logged green beans with no taste whatsoever (how lovely it could have been with lightly steamed beans tossed in olive oil with a dash of chopped garlic and kosher salt!), and our last dining member ordered fried oysters....which, unfortunately, were mushy and he did not enjoy the few he ate at all. this place was very expensive (on the menu were 3 scallops, 21.95) and, most definitely, the food was way below acceptability.

Was a first date and a first time at the Grill. we had a delightful time. The waiter was always close buy to attend to our needs, but not near enough to ruin the atmosphere of a first date. The Grill is beautiful inside, and the food can satisfy anyone's appetite or palate. It was the start to a beautiful afternoon, and we hope to dine there again soon.....

Tried the place closer to when it first opened and was quite pleased with the food and service. Prices are a little higher than the neighbors but the food is a big step up from neighboring Duke's and Dockside willies. They don't really have any deck to speak of but they do have large windows with great river views and the interior of the restaurant is pretty nice.

My friends took me there for my birthday and it was the first time any of us had been there. I must have been eating at a lot of bad restaurants, because I thought this was heaven! The hush puppies and rolls were warm and soft and came out with butter and cinamon button. Nice to have a choice. I had the crab cake and parmasan rosoto and it was heavenly. Salad was fresh and blue cheese dressing was first rate with a ton of blue cheese. My one friend had the seafood rosoto and I was sorry I didn't. It was fabulous and everything was cooked to perfection. The flavors from the huge shrimp, clams and fish really made the broth fragrant and full of natural seafood flavor. Our other friend had a steak and baked potato which looked overdone to me, but she enjoyed it. Service was good and friendly and when I forgot my small gift on the table, the bus boy ran out to give it to me. I really enjoyed the evening and it made me happy to have a free evening to spend sitting by the Susquehanna river and spending time with friends.

Great location. Weird floorplan. People by window get a view. People on floor end up in a hole. Wait staff is nice. Food was good but presentation is so-so. Overall a good place to go.
