Not bad. Take your typical Chinese buffet, add constantly being made sushi, a Hibachi-type grill, and 3 carving stations with ham, pork, and beef, and you get this place. The owners obviously spent some money refurbishing this place. There's an extravagant fish pond in the lobby - it kept the kids entertained while waiting to be seated. The buffet stations (there's about 10...) are shiny and new. Food choice was better than most places, with plenty of things even the kids would eat. There was a chocolate fountain. Trays of strawberries, marshmallows, and other tempting treats waited, skewered on picks waiting for your attention. A few of the sushi varieties I wasn't quite sure on, as the sauce on several covered the contents -- but I forged on anyway. Sushi was fair -- I've had better, but rarely at a buffet. There were two sushi chefs working on keeping the selection fresh. There was a ton of seating, and the restaurant was nicely full -- not too empty, not too crowded. The wait staff kept our sodas filled. The only snafu we encountered was a poorly worded coupon that took a few minutes to sort out, but that wasn't a deal breaker. I noticed that they offer 10% discounts for seniors, police, military, and college students -- being that close to Widener, I think I know where they plan on making a large portion of their proceeds. Dinner, for an adult, was $9 and change. Kids were based on age -- but I never did figure out how much, exactly -- our receipt wasn't itemized. It was about $65 for 4 adults and 3 kids. A nice addition to Woodlyn shopping center. Let's hope it sticks.

Love this place! Friendly, clean and good food for a buffet.

For $9.99 on a Saturday night, you can't beat it. We happened upon this place after trying to go to a seafood restaurant down the street that ended up being closed. We walked in to a very clean restaurant jam packed with people waiting for seats. We only had to wait 5 minutes before we were sat down in the corner of the place, which was nice because it was insanely loud. The food was good! Like I said, I would have expected to pay twice what we paid per person to eat here. They have a hibachi of sorts where you pick out your own meat and veg and watch the gentleman grill it up on the hibachi for you. The sushi was very good for a buffet. I usually steer clear of sushi at any buffet, but the amount of people eating it ensured the sushi chefs were kept busy turning out fresh rolls left and right. There is food for everyone here, from health conscious folks to people who just want to pig out and get their $10 worth. I would recommend it, and it's BYOB, so we were able to share a bottle of white as well!

Well this place is huge and has a lot to offer as far as food, so the variety can be a bit overwhelming. Comes down to do I want this or that since you can't really eat it all. Mostly it is your typical chinese food fare that you would come to expect at a Chinese Buffet, as with many other Chinese buffets not too many vegetarian options, but I don't mind as I like my meat. Most of their food was sauced with just the right amount, The General Tso's and The coconut Chicken didn't have that overwhelming sauce that many other buffets tend to go for to hide the flavor. The mac and cheese was extra cheesy and I am a fan of that for sure. Some of the other stand out foods were the fish, the bbq grilled chicken, and the riblets. I was thrilled to have the sushi, it wasn't the best I've ever had but far from the worst and there was a huge variety of it. Would have been nice to have some labels on some of the sushi that I didn't recognize. The Hibachi bar wasn't too bad but the only problem I had with it, was the meat available was frozen patties, guess for them to make it quicker or something? I don't know took away from the whole experience so I decided to go for the bbq grilled chicken at the next section and cut that up and mixed it in with my Hibachi platter... Much better that way... The only other let down.... they take the term Chocolate CHIP cookie on the literal side. I have never before in my life come across a chocolate chip cookie with one chip! WHAT WAS THAT? WHO DOES THAT? That aside the Chocolate waterfall made up for it, overall an awesome buffet and I'd come back if I was in the area.

I got dinner here the other night and I was very pleased with my experience. This place is huge & the décor is nice. Service was fine, not really too involved with the staff at a buffet. I tried a lot of different items here. There were a lot of different sushi choices, which all looked appetizing. I tried two different ones and liked them both. I'm not a sushi person. So I have no idea what they were. They have all the typical Chinese dishes & some American choices. I'd stick to the Chinese fare, it was way better. They also have a hibachi grill that is included. I didn't get to try it because I was too stuffed by the time I realized it was there. Seemed like they had a lot for you to choose from. I will absolutely be back & can't wait to try the hibachi grill. Oh and it was under 25 bucks for both my boyfriend & I to get completely stuffed!

This is a good buffet to go to. It's very nice and clean, the food quality is good, and they have a hibachi. Me and my family go there to eat sometimes and enjoy are time very much. The only problem they have is their communication. Most of the time, the chef at the hibachi speaks too quietly. This does not bother me but might give some people a hard time to understand what the chef might be saying. Other than that, this place is decent and would come back another day.

I have no idea what the place looked like as far as decor. I somehow missed all of that. I was warned ahead of time that this place was like a food mecca, but was still blown away by the sheer size of the place and the amount of choices. There is something for everyone here...even picky children. The sushi was awesome! Fresh, plentiful, and delicious. There was a salad bar; several different types of Chinese dishes; hibachi choices and they cooked some to order (no extra charge); there were some "American dishes;" lots of seafood choices; soups; desserts; and a chocolate fountain with lots of different fruits and other goodies to dip into it. There was so much and everything I tasted was fresh and delicious. I will have to go back because there is a ton of stuff I missed...including the chocolate fountain. The staff was friendly and helpful. The acoustics were great, too, because - now that I think of it - I don't remember hearing a lot of noise or voices or even music. Maybe I was in a food coma?? I'm definitely going back to this place over and over and I'm bringing friends, too!

I'm addicted to Chinese buffets. I love seafood, I love sushi, and I love Asian food. I was house hunting in the area, so I thought try to find a replacement for my beloved buffets in the Northeast. Well.... I guess I'll have to keep looking. First, whoever heard of a Chinese buffet without snow crab legs? The selection of other seafood and Chinese items also didn't thrill me. The one saving grace of the place was that it had a large sushi bar, and the sushi was pretty good. Had that been the end of the story I probably would have given it three stars. However, the next day I paid for my trip there.... over... and over... and over... and over again. There will be no return trip here, and my search for a new buffet will continue.

I was starving after shopping so I stopped by here an hour before they close. The food would have been better if I was here earlier. I had what was left and some were dry looking and looked like they have been out for awhile. The service was ok. The guy working the Hibachi was funny, asked me if I spoke Spanish. LOL.

Found a live cockroach on a piece of sushi. No kidding. Went here with a few coworkers for lunch and we all enjoyed the food until we stumbled on a cockroach. the worst part was that the chef just brushed it off once we showed it to him, and went about his business like it was nothing unusual. To top it off, the manager only gave us a 50% discount even though we barely ate before leaving. Do yourself a favor and stay away from this filthy place.

Im not much for buffets but im so disfortuned that I dont work in an upper class neighborhood and have to settle for this. I must admit I am impress with this buffet restaurant. The sushi selection is pretty large and pretty good. They have several other cusines and a good selection if deserts. All for a big $8.95. I must say I will defenatly will be coming back to the habashi buffet.

Hilarious, this word summed up my whole night. My mother begged me to take her here because her staff told her how delicious the food was. For a Mother's Day dinner I was hesitant but she really wanted to go so I reluctantly agreed. We came in with a party of 9 around 8:40. As we walked in the staff looked at each other and then looked at the clock, then looked back at each other and then finally they agreed to sit us down. I thought that was a little rude considering they close at 10 Now the food wasn't too bad but it wasn't great either. It was average buffet food, nothing to complain about but nothing to rave about either. Oh, as I approached the hibachi the chinese chef was like "what do you want?". He looked so annoyed that I didn't even bother. Here is what got them the one star. We were the only table in the section and we had two waitresses running around our section doing everything but clearing our plates! They were sweeping, cleaning tables, and making sure that when we left they would be ready to go home(it was roughly 9 o clock and they close at 10) the only time they cleared our plates was when I placed them on the table beside us. Now here's the icing on the cake! We asked them to bring out our cake that we asked them to chill for us. Instead they come back with the check. Then we ask them for the cake again, 10 minutes later nothing happens, so my brother chases them down for our cake! Our cake arrives inside the box still taped up! I thought that was a little unusual... So after opening the cake we realized they didn't supply a knife for us to cut the cake, so we wave them down but they were so busy cleaning up for the next day that they didnt hear or see us, not a problem, so we get up and run into their little hide out and ask for a knife. The waitress comes back with the knife and we ask her for plates, she goes "they're at the buffet" and runs back into her hide out. that's cool I guess, so I run to the buffet and muster up 9 plates, but hold on! How can we eat cake without utensils? Again the waitresses are nowhere to be found. Some of us got desperate and we started going through our old dirty plates (that they failed to remove...)to find forks, spoons, chopsticks, basically anything we can eat with! At this point nobody wanted to eat the cake, but I can't blame them, who wants to eat cake with dirty utensils and dirty chopsticks? My mom was so turned off that she didn't even have a slice of her own cake.... Call me harsh or whatever you want but my Mother's Day dinner was ruined, oh and I don't know if this adds any credibility to my review but I am a waiter at a buffet and never have I ever witness such a unprofessional staff. EVER!!

This place was the worst. I immediately regretted it. Of course when you are BYOB and this close to Chester, man do you get to see some winners. It should be called bring your own bottle of mad dog. This place was packed, the servers were polite but the food was HORRENDOUS. A large selection of less than edible things, american and asian. Never again!

I always come here for the sushi in between class. It's usually really good and fresh, but the raw spicy tuna roll had a funny taste. I branched out and got the fried calamari and it was pretty good. I just think they should either fry it a little harder or let it drain more, but it was still good. I love those huge, fried tempura rolls! I will still come back, but just be a bit more skeptical of the raw sushi.

I don't like buffets. I never liked buffets. So you can imagine how low my expectations were when we went to Hibachi. To summarize quickly: it met my expectations. Walking into Hibachi, you notice a really cool fountain and pond with fish in it. It's actually kinda nice. Then, as you look a little past that, things start to fly into perspective. The atmosphere here is confusing. Wallpaper is not attractive, and neon lights surrounding a chandelier... oookay then. But hey, I'm not here to judge the building, I'm here for the food. However, as I start to get my food, I begin to remember why I hate buffets so freaking much. Buffets attract hundreds of people a day, especially when entry is so cheap. This creates a small problem when people are using the same utensils to grab their food with. Yeah. Time to break out the hand sanitizer. After looking around, trying to find things that look somewhat appetizing. You return to your seat. The quality of the food explains the low price. It's somewhat edible, but not something most people could want to eat again. Some highlights: Hibachi chicken, chocolate fountain (which is sorta fun). Didn't try the grill (probably should have). Every dessert besides a select few looks like it was forked out of a box. Oh, and the things that look like brownies, I have no idea what they are, but lets just say they don't taste like brownies. Just killed my dreams there. Well, if you enjoy buffets, you might like this. If you're like me, I wouldn't get your hopes up. Food: 4/10 -Fried Shrimp (5/10) -Hibachi Chicken (7/10) -Hibachi Rice (7/10) -California Roll (4/10) -Shrimp (5/10) -Lo Mien (5/10) -Ice Cream (6/10) The product itself is good, however, because it is self-serve, it's a breeding ground for germs. -Cream Puffs (3/10) -Brownie-Thing (1/10) - Not a brownie. -Chocolate Fountain (6/10) - Maybe they should just knock this place down and turn it into a giant chocolate fountain. Service: 6/10 -Helpfulness (7/10) -Knowledge (5/10) -Efficiency (7/10) Ambiance: 3/10 Value: 7/10 OVERALL (5/10) [2.5/5]: If you like buffets, it may be worth 3 stars. As for me, this place is barely worth 2.

No idea what this place is; not Asian food or even Asian American food. Hell one of the best things there was a chicken skewer that tasted like tandoori. A lot of fried food a lot of American food and surprisingly few real options especially for dessert. But for a weekend meal of $9.99 the mediocre at best food could be overlooked.

  • John S.

FAKE SUSHI ALERT! This is not real raw tuna this is tuna from a can, still room temperature put on to some rice with a dab of sirracha sauce put on it and they call its a spicy tuna roll, what a joke! The best thing this place has is their prime rib! Unfortunately the majority of the customers that fill this place lack morals and respect so get ready to keep your mouth shut and just except the fact that they jumped the line in the buffet or used their fingers to pick food out of the serving tray... Or else you might find yourself arguing with an uneducated human being with missing teeth and a sloppy use of slang that cannot be translated into anything you can understand. It's somewhat depressing eating in this place if you stop and take a look around while eating.

This place is a huge bargain for a family. With the $7.99 coupon and a drink, where else can you have a dinner for $10.00? The choices are huge. There is a huge sushi section, salad bar, dessert bar (plus chocolate fountain and six or eight ice creams) as well as "the grill" and the "hibachi". On the six buffet areas were not only Chinese selections but American too. The yeast rolls were to die for. There's pizza, there's cheese sticks, turkey, roast beef, macaroni & cheese, fresh cold shrimp, seafood Alfredo w/pasta, BBQ spareribs and it would be impossible to name off all the choices! I personally thought the guy who cooked my hibachi items overlooked them. Otherwise, for $7.99--it was fine. In this case, you get "more" than you pay for! The place was clean--and on a Friday night--was packed! It's so large there was no wait. Overall, the food was fine. I'm not a HUGE fan of Asian...but will eat it once a month. All of the basic Chinese faves are available including General Tso's chicken, egg rolls, rice, four different Chinese soups and on & on & on!

Bring the hand sanitizer and don't expect too much. Plenty of selection just not tons of quality. It is what it is and the price is right. Coconut chicken & dumplings aren't bad at all.

I came here with 2 of my co-workers for lunch. The place looked nice and I really liked their sushi! Compared to some of the Asian food buffets I'd been to before, I would say it is one of the good ones. I would definitely come again when my family visits me here.

Nothing served is really that good, but the variety and general quality leaves you satisfied, especially at an exceedingly reasonable price. I like to stop there on the drive to Delaware. It's not far off 95. Service is friendly.

This is a pretty decent buffet. There's plenty of variety here, something for everyone. My co-workers and myself usually go out to eat on Fridays & this is an easy quick fix that's not too far from my job. Unfortunately, not all of the food is hot. I prefer my food to be PIPPING hot when I eat it & this place falls short in that department. However, for being in Chester this is an acceptable place to dine. You also can't beat the lunch price. I stick to what I know & like : egg drop soup, sesame chicken, dumplings. They have a sushi station as well. Buffets aren't really known for having good desserts; they have a fairly large area for cookies and such. They also have an ice cream station that's scoop it yourself ( 8 different flavors )

It's another hibachi buffet. The usual choices. The hibachi was a nice option but the teriyaki sauce was rather salty. The food was good not fantastic but again it's a buffet. The price was reasonable. I had a large group and they put us in their private room which was great. I appreciated that. Not the worst buffet I've been too.

Always a great place to take family and friends. Priced right, good service, and the Sushi Buffet is fresh & different each month. Always a great time for that now and then buffet that you can trust is clean, fresh, and enough of a selection that everyone can find something to eat. Especially the kids.

I've said in another review that I'll pretty much give any chinese/japanese place 3 stars. But 2 things that bump this place to a 4 is their yummy fresh sushi (large variety) and their black pepper chicken is absolutely delicious! And of course, there's that pretty awesome fish pond.

    (4)
  • Kristine N.

A buffet for $6.99? I was hesitant but surprisingly, everything was pretty good! There are about 8 stations with sushi (limited selection, not the freshest), hibachi, salad bar, dessert bar, american food (pizza, bbq chicken, fries, etc), and everything possibly a Chinese restaurants menu. Plenty of options to choose from. Everything is salty and oily but decent nonetheless.

  • Claude H.

I understand this is a "chain" base - but this was about the top in "Buffet" style Asian food. Some folks find the lack of signage a problem with the sushi but it is pretty easy to figure out (and the staff is happy to answer questions. Clean, organized, quiet. A huge variety of fresh food, hot when it is supposed to be, cold when it is supposed to be chilled. Highlights include real good Won Ton soup. A rare peppered beef that is REALLY good. The salmon used in the Sashimi The Pond offers options to pay 50 cents to get a bit of fish food which is always fun.

It was really good when it first opened! But now that they have been there for a while they have removed the chocolate fountain and the fresh fruit you could dip into the fountain; & the food isn't as good anymore! The last time my family & I went to this restaurant we weren't pleased with the spread of food there plus ended up eating one sad plate and leaving! Having to pay normal price! In my experience this place isn't worth it! Sushi section isn't always the freshest!

  • Cynthia H.

We will definitely be back. We went for lunch and it was really reasonably priced. The sushi was ultra-fresh and delicious. They had multiple types, and it was so tasty. They have 8 buffet tables of hot foods and desserts, including a delicious chocolate fountain. I went with my husband and two big boys and they practically ate their weight in sushi! It was that good! I highly recommend it especially at lunch time for a great value.

The Chinese buffet is yet another one of those things that I know aren't exactly good for me but...... I'm fallible.... That being said Hibachi in Woodlyn is now at the top of my list! I love the sushi and this place has by far the largest variety I've seen. I've found it fresh, tasty and some interesting items I haven't seen elsewhere. In fact it is likely the largest buffet around. The place was new, bright and clean. (passed the bathroom test). They supplement your traditional Chinese fare with some nice American dishes and roast meats (NOT Old Country fare!) They have a stir fry station (didn't try) and a nice desert and REAL ice cream station (tried too often) Seriously..... people criticize the food quality but have any restaurant put out their entire menu (over 100 items) continuously for like 8 hours. Whole Foods Market's hot/cold bars are nearly twice as expensive and (maybe) only slightly better. We go here for quantity, variety and reasonable prices. I'll betcha even those one star reviewers got up for another plate... I've instructed the staff on future visits to cut me off after 4 plates, take my keys and call me a cab.....

So based on previous reviews, there is a lot I really wanted to like about this place. Of course, as it is with almost every Chinese buffet out there, they slip in some areas. First reaction is that I do like the overall look inside and I do appreciate the huge selection they offer. It's well lit, and very spacious. There's a lot to try here, at least twice the amount of many similar places. I was unable to sample all of their wares. But I will give you a rundown of what the wife and I did sample. I went straight for the sushi selection for the first round. The positives here are that they offer easily 3 or 4 times the amount of sushi that most of these places offer. So the variety lover in me was happy. But... to the chagrin of my wife, nothing is labeled. You basically have to take a leap of faith here. If you are picky about sushi (like my wife) you will be scared away. If you have some adventure (like me), you will go for it. Quality of the sushi... taste wise I was fine. I've had better,I've also had worse. One thing I noticed... the tempura battered sushi they offer was cold when I got it. This made the texture chewy rather than crunchy. One of the dangers of having so much sushi available is that some of it might lay out. Although they do have a chef there to maintain quality and freshness for the raw sushi, the cooked varieties might have this issue. But, I devoured my first plate in record time, so I must have been happy on some level. My wife reported a few issues with her first plate. The chicken and broccoli, she reported, was a bit gelatinous. She did not enjoy it. Again, with so many dishes available, the chances of some items sitting out longer increases. It obviously affected the dish. Also, at the hibachi station which has a raw bar, she stated that she was going to go for some raw chicken to get the cook to make for her, until she had noticed some raw shrimp had fallen into the chicken pan. Now, I'm not sure if someone with shrimp or seafood allergies would come here in the first place. But, there is a quality control issue here. The raw shrimp pan was located directly behind the raw chicken pan. This means the chances of raw shrimp falling into the chicken increases dramatically as people spoon it toward their plate and some falls off. Again, if you are picky about such things, this will turn you off. I nibbled on some of the more Americanized fare. There was a dish of roasted chicken on the bone near the hibachi that was quite good. I would recommend that to anyone. The pre-made steak from the hibachi however came out overdone and rubbery. Though I did notice a lot of dishes at the hibachi that I wanted to try, such as the sausage, but didn't yet. I also tried a piece of sweet and sour chicken from the wife's plate and that also suffered from the out too long syndrome as again, it was more chewy than crunchy. The "tacos" they offered were more like quesadillas, and were merely passable. A quick sampling of a mozzarella stick wasn't too bad. My wife did like the fried dumplings. Among items that I wanted to try but didn't were the roast pork which looked juicy, and the prime rib which looked tender. But I didn't want to overdo it. That will be the updated review. Now, where they won us over was on dessert. Some more expensive buffets in the area skimp on dessert. I can't tell you how upsetting it was at one buffet that charged $15 locally for dinner only to find that they give you a hospital styrofoam cup of ice cream. So, to get 8 different flavors of hand dipped Richman's ice cream here is definitely a plus. I thoroughly enjoyed my dish of Moose Tracks, thank you. Also, the chocolate fountain is a nice touch, and the wife loved the ability to chocolate dip her macaroons. Kudos for having a larger selection of overall desserts than most. You will not be disappointed in the price. If you drink water with dinner (which we did), you can get out of there for two for under $20 before tip. But, if you do not order drinks, they will not honor coupons as the coupons are contingent on drink purchases with the buffet. So take the coupons to mean that you get free drinks as it basically negates that charge. We are generally water drinkers at dinner so no coupon for us. But the price is still right. Interesting thing about the price which I asked the folks about at the counter.... crab legs are separate from the buffet and charged $5.99 per pound to be brought out to your table. So, this is a plus if you don't care about crab legs. At other places if they have crab legs, they charge everyone the same higher price whether they have crab legs or not. Here, you can avoid that and it will keep overall prices down. Now, if you are a fan of crab legs, you will decide whether or not that surcharge is worth it to you. They did just enough good to make me give them another shot. I may have to talk my wife into it though.

Can't complain about anything. Prices are too good to find any problems. I love sushi, and they have agreat variety, although not always as fresh as it could be, but once again, for the price we pay, we can't really complain.

Oh god, why do I come here. Oh, it's a buffet. Right. Decent dumplings, crab wontons, and sushi. Everything else is lackluster at best. That being said, it is super cheap and the waitresses who refill your drinks/clear your plates are friendly and quick. And that fountain does not look healthy for those fish...

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
