The food was great - and the portions were pretty big. The philly cheesesteak was awesome (go for the mushrooms & peppers!). I gave 4 stars due in part to the poor beer selection & in part due to the menu selection - the menu was relativey large, but a lot of the same types of stuff (little variety). Fortunately I made the right choice and was pleased with my meal. The owner even stopped by to ask how we were doing (a nice touch)

Let's start with the good: Yellow Snow on tap! YEAH! This was an unexpected find in the northern tier and started the evening off on a pleasant note. This was the climax of the evening....on to the rest: *Temperature. It was crazy hot in here. So hot I made multiple trips outside to cool down. (Note, it was not "packed" and the heat was not from a crowded bar; the temperature was crazy warm when we arrived to a relatively empty bar) *Food. The food was just ok. I ordered a salad and it was good, but nothing special. It would have been a lot better w/some home made salad dressing offerings. Their balsamic vinaigrette is homemade, but I didn't really care for it (nor would I classify it as a balsamic "vinaigrette"). They do have blue cheese crumbles which I requested (twice before I received them) to make my salad much more enjoyable. The special appetizer (calamari, cheese wedges, and garlic bread) was embarrassing. *Service. The service started off decent enough (though I did have to wait/ask twice for my blue cheese crumbles), but then went downhill fast. Though we were there to see a band, our server had us cash out after our meal. No problem. Except, we NEVER AGAIN received ANY service throughout the night (despite the 25% tip...). Literally. I was thrilled it was so warm because it was causing the ice from my water to melt so I had something to drink. I caved and decided to go to the bar to get a beer to only be ignored there for 5 minutes. At this point, I decided I would NOT be giving this establishment any more money, even if it meant being thirsty and sober for the duration. This wasn't our first trip to the Wellsboro House, but the first time I felt compelled to write a review (the previous 4-5 times had been lackluster, but adequate). Service is key in my world; if you provide great service, I'll patronize your establishment, even if there's no food/beer I *love*. Poor service = no return trip from me. I'd much rather eat at the Timeless and drink at the Barrel when we're in Wellsboro...

This place is one of the best restaurants in Wellsboro. The food is great, they have a good selection of beers and they always have plenty of sports to watch. My personal favorite thing to get is the salmon blackened.

Shakespeare wrote, "The fault . . . is not in our stars," but I have struggled more with the correct number of stars -- 3 or 4 - to give this place. I finally settled on 4, because that is the correct number to give it based on our experience dining there once and on the experience friends have had there on many occasions over time. Four stars - rather than 3 - is right for the experience most people will have there, and this is a restaurant whose owner has put enormous work into renovating what was a dilapidated building into a thing of roadhouse beauty. When we were there, people around us were admiring the new, beautiful wood floors, for example. The staff were very accommodating and worked hard to make certain we had a good time there and good meals. This was true even though they had to go out of their way to accommodate me - a vegetarian with health issues that puts things like salads on the do not eat list. So here are the good things about the place. If you need special accommodations, ask them, and they will do their best to meet them. The on-line menu currently is mostly burgers. It is not completely up to date, though. They have recently brought in a very high quality beef provider. As my very picky dinner partner said, "Steak doesn't get any better than this." They made me a vegetarian pasta dish that was quite good, especially for something not on the menu and made on the fly. They have a nice array of beers, including local beers and beers from smaller breweries. The servers also seem knowledgeable about their beers. Often, I find places like this but the servers have to ask the bar tenders which beer is hoppy. The dessert was amazing. Most people will miss this place, because it is not in downtown Wellsboro, and that's a shame. After having eaten in a fair percentage of restaurants there, this one stands in the very top. The owner told us that his chef is in the process of redoing the menu and is looking to add vegetarian items. He also said they are always happy to accommodate special food needs. Wellsboro house is about a 4 minute drive from downtown starting at the Sherwood Motel, and not too hard to find. Lunch available only on Friday and Saturday. Otherwise, dinner is 5-9, So I was right to give it 4 stars and not to let my pique at the low level of vegetarian dishes overcome fairness and reason.

Good food. Pleasantly surprised. Our party had southwest burger, delmonico, and fish special - all were very good.

Ended up in the area after checking out the PA Grand Canyon. Looked at some other yelp reviews that deemed this place the best in the area so we figured we would give it a shot. It is right off the main drag and walking distance from where we were staying at the Sherwood motel. When we arrived we were greeted immediately by a friendly host. We were seated at a high top in the bar section. There were ample amount of TVs which allowed any one in the room to watch March Madness. So what started out to be a pleasant experience at a clean and hip bar, we were now stuck with some struggles to overcome. Issue 1. There were absolutely no prices on the draft, beer or drink list. So we just had to go on a whim with what to get. As mid 20-something's we are still a bit frugal with our money. This ultimately determined that we would only be drinking here during the duration of our meal. Next was the menu. There were a ton of options but they all appeared to be the same with a few differences. So now we were overwhelmed with a massive menu that could be cut in half. As we cruised through the menu the po boy peaked our interest, until of course we saw the price tag associated with it. Over $12 for a sandwich without fries included is unknown to me, as a person who frequently dines in Philadelphia. We ended up ordering chicken fingers and a burger. Both were sub par. This is definitely a kitschy take on a neighborhood bar. All in all take your brother in law here if your wife is breaking your stones about it. It's not a place you'd want to spend the entire night at.

Great craft beer selection. I had the Black and Blueberry Wheat House Brew and it was wonderful. Ordered the South of the Border burger and have zero complaints. We were there when every single table was full and the service was still pretty quick. I was there for the food and conversation though, so I wasn't exactly watching the clock. I would definitely return the next time I find myself in the area.

I start this review with a small story, as it encases everything that is right about this place. I had come here with friends after canoeing 20 miles earlier in the day. After cleaning up we ventured out to grab some food and arrived at the Wellsboro house upon high reccommendations. The problem was it was 5 minutes after the kitchen closed, without us asking the waitress ran back and checked if the cook would make one more tables worth of meals. He gladly obliged. During our meal the owner came over to get feedback and discuss their in house beers. This place knows how to treat a customer. The menu itself is a combination of dinners/steaks/and standard bar fair. It was alright and clearly not from frozen backroom store so it's a better choice than some of the other nearby offerings.

Decent restaurant in Wellsboro, good sandwich and salad options. I have had a steak salad and a chicken sandwich from here. Good beer list plenty of options. The owner is from Mayfair in Philly.

I was so thoroughly disappointed in Wellsboro House, I was compelled to write my first (I think) review. My party of 4 received a recommendation from some local folks to stop here for dinner on the way to a nearby event. It sounded good since it was a brewery and those are always good to check out. We arrived approximately two hours before our event started, so we thought there was plenty of time to have a nice meal and arrive early. Our first impression was that the menu was kind of pricey, but hey, maybe the food warranted it? It turned out that this brewery only had 3 beers on tap (at least that night) so not much in the way of selection (we tried all three and while it was passable, it was "meh" at best). We ordered our meals and an appetizer (crab dip) which was pretty tasty and came out quickly. Then the waiting began. About 40 minutes went by before our server came over to tell us our food would be "right out" and another 20 minutes went by with no sign of her or our food. We were now cutting it very, very close to being late to our event. We had watched several other tables come in, get served, and leave while we waited. We discussed just paying for our drinks and the appetizer and going to the nearby McDonalds, and were about to, when our food finally came out. My burger (Wellsboro burger), ordered medium, came out well-done, the shrimp and special sauce turned out to about 10 little tiny salad shrimp and a squeeze of a pinkish, but nondescript sauce from a squeeze bottle. My friend's catfish was described as some of the worst food he'd ever eaten, made even more painful by the $20 price tag. Another friend's blackened fish wasn't. The only thing that was decent from what we had was a chicken cheesesteak. The server was a little surprised when she asked us if we wanted anything else when she brought us the food and we said "the check" then she got very apologetic and offered a rather lame excuse about "another room" ... well our room was basically empty and the staff were cleaning up the tables as if it was the end of the night. We managed to scarf down the food and made a beeline out the door, never to return. I realize this was a singular experience, but they won't get another chance.

My daughter had the Wallu, fresh from Hawaii, the mussels were great. Enjoyed the sampler of our selection of 20 draught beers on tap, and their own micro-brew was our favorite. Will be back.

Returned here again since it was really good last year. The cheesesteak was better than I remembered! South Philly Cheesesteak (minus the onions, peppers, etc) was delicious! My fiancee got the Steel City Brisket sandwich and loved it too! Our waitress, Lindsey, was very attentive and friendly as well. Very tasty... this will definitely be a regular stop for us on our yearly trip. TIP: Only open for lunch 12-5 on Friday & Saturday, regular hours for dinner are 5-9 Monday through Saturday.

We do not live in the area, so looked on yelp for the most stars. This place is off the beaten path a bit, but not too far from downtown. The food was actually pretty great, we had some issues with the steak but the owner came over apologized and got us burgers instead. Everyone was very polite, and friendly. The biggest complaint I would really have is how long everything took. We were there a good hour and a half before our actual meals came out. We had appetizers and salad that came out in a timely fashion. It also took another 15 minutes to replace the steaks. If your ok with the wait the food is great. We were a table of 6 so that might have been what took so long.

This place offered a nice beer selection and simple, good, food. The service was quick and friendly. I was in the area for only one weekend, but of the places I tried in the area, this was the only one I would visit on a return trip. It's worth a visit and it's a nice, easy walk from town!

Great place to eat. Burgers and the cheese steak were great. The wait staff is super friendly, and the food came out quick even though the place was packed and they were short staffed. The locally made soda they serve is really good too. Definitely hit this place when in the area.

Just outta the center of town but an easy 10 minute walk from the Penn Wells hotel. Was greeted by a wonderful and very competent bar tender Justine who made several great recommendations. When I stated I was in the mood for something Polish inspired, she suggested I order the Beer Brat. OMG! 1st it's huge. 2nd its homemade. 3rd the roll is shipped fresh from Philly (the-e-e best bread in the world). 4th did I say it's huge, and homemade, and uses Philly bread, AND an outta sight homemade mustard. Da bomb. If that wasn't enough a thick wedge of cheesecake finished me off (yes, they make that, too). All the staff were friendly and it's easy to see why: Chris, the owner, is one of the nicest guys you'll meet. Great job all the way around and a hearty, Beer Brat-sized 5 stars from me.

Love this place. Seating could be updated, but a great atmosphere and decent portioned food. Only downside is you have to pay $ to upgrade to fresh cut fries when the sandwiches are already at chain restaurant prices. Still, great for beer, drinks, a casual chill date, and/or casual business. They also have the NFL Sunday Ticket... :)

Great brewpub with the largest variety of draft beer in Wellsboro. Their house brews are excellent and always improving. They generally keep four of their own on tap, with over a dozen guest beers on tap as well. They stock a nice mix of the standard "big name" beers to please the general crowd as well as craft and seasonal specialties for beer enthusiasts. Like most brewpubs, they offer flights for those (like myself) who enjoy sampling many beers. I haven't explored many options on the food menu, but the Philly cheesesteak is top notch. One of the best I've tried. Prices are pretty reasonable and portion sizes are nice. The entire staff is friendly and accommodating as well. The owner, Chris, is a nice guy who loves talking to customers and really knows his brews. The Wellsboro House is a great place to get dinner, especially if you're a beer drinker.

Love this place. I grew up in Wellsboro and remember when it was a dark bar where men would go after work for a few beers. It has been completely renovated and expanded. The food selection is standard American diner/bar food. They have added a lot of local flavor and the food is good quality and You get your money's worth. They've made some unique burger combinations and the Friday fish fry or prime rib is excellent. Now, you will not find a better beer selection for miles and it's always being rotated. Try it. You will have a good experience here whether you are a local or a visitor to Wellsboro.
