So the bf wanted something different so he suggested Taste of India and I must say I was not disappointed. We went on a Saturday evening and were seated right away. He ordered the chicken tikka marsala with a side of naan and I ordered the lamb tikka marsala with a side of naan. Our food arrived in a reasonable time and our server was very nice. My only complaint is I wish I had a bit more lamb, his chicken was overflowing where my lamb only had a few pieces. I'm assuming because it is more expensive but I feel that the extra cost for it should makeup for that. Either way I enjoyed my experience and would come again ! Perhaps for the lunch buffet

Solid tandoori chicken but it is a bit on the dry side. An order is comprised of 2 drumsticks and 2 thighs. The roti is very chewy and a bit tough, so stick with the naan. They also use quite a bit of butter, as well.

I like this Indian place and think it's underrated. They offer a pretty generous lunch buffet for $13, and are good about making takeout fast. The buffet is good because they offer various breads, rice, samosas and other appetizer type dishes, curries including: vegetarian, chicken and another meat, a salad bar, dessert bar, mango lasso, hot chai. I think one could easily put together an appetizer, curry, dessert and drink meal and it's a great value. Sometimes they're conservative with making food spicy, so of you mean it, let them know. The atmosphere is pretty basic. Tables with table clothes and unmemorable decor. If you're doing takeout, mention the website discount for 10% off.

My husband and I decided to go to this buffet after finding out that the one we really wanted to go to was closing at 3:00 and it was 2:45 p.m. I called to make sure that this eatery was opened and they were going to be opened until 3:30 p.m. When we arrived we were shown to a table and then left to our own devices. I had to go to the cashier to find out how the process worked. After we had gotten our food we realized that we had nothing to drink or was anything offered. I spotted some pitchers of water and went over to get water. The lady apologized for not giving us water. No offer or mention of other drinks was made. The sweet and sour chicken was salty and didn't taste good. All the breads kind of tasted the same....while there was a wide variety the flavors were very similar and there was a commonality of extra salt. When we were leaving the cashier told us to come earlier next time and I was left wondering whether the subpar service had been an effort to get us to leave. I will not be returning.

Currently sitting in the restaurant and decided to upgrade my review to 5 stars. it's been several years since writing it, and I've visited several other lunch buffets since. And this is really about as good as it gets! Unfortunately this review is only for buffet as I've never been for dinner. Simply because there are so many others close by that are not only tasty but also offer groupon deals. The restaurant and buffet setup are exactly the same as when I first came like 8 years ago. The buffet, though, has added a ton of fresh ingredients like sliced veggies, salads and all the condiments you'll ever want. And there is always a huge selection of entrees and multiple styles of bread that will please anyone. Service is quiet and always there when you need it, even during busy times. Lastly, it's always busy between 12-1 so there is always fresh food continually coming out.

The buffet is amazing! I think all the food was very good and the price was actually very reasonable.

The buffet is a lunchtime must! I have gotten take out from this place multiple times. Then I tried the buffet. No longer will I pay so much more and get only a little portion and a little sampling of the tastiness. The buffet is only $12. They even have mango lassis and hot chai tea! Plus, there is a salad bar (if you want to be healthy but waste your limited stomach space on this), soups, a variety of crazy looking desserts, rice, sauces, toppings and several main dishes. And samosas....

A better than average, gut busting lunch buffet! Be warned that this place gets packed during lunch hour. The ding space is tight, noisy and the pace seems to be hurried. Combine that with the equally crowded shopping strip it sits in and may have a slight case of indigestion when it's all said and done. Either way, the buffet is worth checking. Bring your appetite and your patience.

My rating is not based on the food available at Taste of india. If you can handle horrible service from a lady who doesn't seem mildly interested in her customers, this might be your spot. They have the best dishes in the area but are rude beyond belief. I've been seated while the server is talking on a cell phone, hung up on while ordering takeout, yelled at while ordering take out & and am so glad I live in a new area that does not have these problems.

Food is below average. There are a bunch of items on the buffet but nothing worthwhile. I was excited when I saw a series of starters and chat like.... Samosa, aloo tiki, Pani puri etc.. Then realized samosa was a day old. Overall everything was salty and could not bear. Not worth the price. Disappointed for trying out this place!!

I like this place for the lunch buffet, which is my only experience. My only issue with it is that I have no self-control and leave so stuffed that I don't need to eat dinner. Seriously. That's not a bad deal for $13. The choices on the buffet are quite good in my opinion, and I prefer this to other places in the area that are closer to the office. Naan is very good, and Poori is not bad considering that it's on the buffet line and not being served right out of the hot oil. They keep the buffet well stocked and I haven't had any issues getting the dishes that I've wanted. They have a good variety of both vegetarian and meat-loving options, and several desserts. The mango lassie is good, but as previously mentioned, I can't imagine how many calories are in it! The décor is quite basic and I'd say that atmosphere is pretty non-existent save for a few trinkets on the walls and the typical Indian music playing over the speakers. Service is somewhat lackadaisical and the last time I was there a customer walked out in frustration without being seated. So four stars is a round-up from the 3.5 that I think it really deserves.

The food was fine for a buffet. I loved that the tikka masala was spicy. However the staff is RUDE. They barely look in your direction and certainly don't smile or say anything. I was utterly shocked the restaurant had so many people with that odd atmosphere. Trust me, you can do better and the owner should be ashamed!

We have visited Taste of India many times. In our latest visit, the food was excellent but the service was dismal - disorganized and slow.

This has been my family's go-to place for Indian takeout for years. I can't vouch for its authenticity, but the food is so rich and flavorful, I couldn't really care whether it is Americanized or not. Our typical order is malai kofta, vegetable korma, saag paneer, and garlic naan. I'm still not sick of it after ordering pretty much the same thing all these years. The layers of flavors are complex and keep me coming back for bite after bite even after I'm stuffed. It's the kind of thing that makes me say "yum" aloud after eating. The chutneys and yogurt they give you with your order add even more vibrancy to the dishes. Keep a big cup of water next to you though- their food IS on the salty side!

Went here for a Friday night dinner for a change of pace from our usual Indian place. Food was good and so was service. We had lamb and chicken curry with some Naan and samosas. Good portions will keep us coming back for more. Would recommend.

Apparently I can't give 0 stars, so I'll give this place 1. Stopped in to get take out tonight since I'd heard so many good things... After explaining to the waitress that I was severely allergic to nuts, I asked her if the dish I was ordering contained nuts, and she said no... Fast forward to an hour later, halfway through eating, and my throat completely closed up. Turns out there were ground up cashews in the sauce. Thankfully, I popped a couple benedryl, jabbed myself with an epi pen, and didn't have to make a trip to the ER, but had I eaten the entire thing or been more allergic, it may have been fatal. It's very unprofessional AND dangerous that servers don't know what is in the food!!! Fellow nut allergens, be wary of this place!!!

One of best buffets (out of several dozen places experienced in US). Great variety and belabor flavour. Dinner is good quality. Northern Indian cuisine.

I've been to a few Indian restaurants, and this one stands above most. It's ridiculous how good this food is. A little expensive for this area, but you get what you pay for. Price includes bottomless mango lassi, so I think it's priced right. Best Indian I've eaten so far in the KoP area. Check it out!

Awesome food! Everything we had was amazing and was big on flavor. Mango Lassi, Chicken Tikka Masala, Garlic Naan, Coconut Soup. All yum. We will be back. Cant wait to try their buffet to sample other Indian foods.

I am very critical about Indian restaurants, because I can cook whatever the food served. I've been here twice and I really find the buffet disappointing. I believe it is all about the quantity and not the quality. The samosas were day old and they have a very weird dish called chicken dhaal. Why would you wanna put chicken in dhaal? I haven't tasted dinner here, but I believe it might be the same. I would avoid this place.

  • Dave W.

Good lunch option if you get the buffet. Though they don't have a lot of choices, what they have will satisfy your indian food crave. Their spicy chicken and the goat are two of my favs. One knock I have is that $13 and change for lunch is pretty hefty.

Buffet is ok. The lamb they make is too fat. India nang which is the pancake is so good. I like it most. Also the mango smoothie is awesome but still too much calory and fat. Not healthy for a simple lunch. Maybe should come for dinner next time. Friday lunch is so crowded.

I ordered a take out and the word that describes the quality of food - pathetic. Chana masala was tasteless, Bhatura was half cooked, paneer chilli was sweet and tasted awful, chicken lollipop terrible. I am running out of adjectives to describe the rest. Punjabi Kadhi was the only edible item. Will never go there again.

Food was extremely salty, amost unbearably so. Was it an off day? I don't know, but i would not go there ever again, esp bc we got charged $29 for 2 buffets with no drinks! We had to go to the nearby chinese restaurant right after.

I was craving Indian. My boyfriend loves Indian food and took me to a joint in Trooper. I wasn't too fond of that place and we figured we would give this one a try. The poppadoms were delicious as well as all the chutneys. The lamb samosas were amazing. We had the chicken tikka masala. Sauce was good. I didn't like the chicken breast... wish they would have used thigh meat. Very very laid back service. I will most likely come back to try their other dishes :)

Solid Indian buffet in the Chesterbook area. Price is only $12 for lunch. They usually have all the classics: saag, tandoori chicken, aloo goobi, etc. Spice level isn't too hot.

Been there for lunch buffet. Very good number of items. Matches the price. Found a rare gem Rasmalai in buffet. Enjoyed the wide range of buffet. Quality should be improved, though!

Everything was so incredibly over salted, they should install a saltlick at every table and save some money. I've literally drank a half gallon of water today. I'd pass. PS-parking was ample.

I dined here for the lunch buffet, and while the service is at best brusque, it's a buffet, so you don't need much. Although I was surprised I wasn't even offered a beverage. However, the food here is the best Indian cuisine I have seen on the main line! The goat curry is a must, and by the time I got to it shortly after 1pm, it was mostly gone. The dishes seem quite fresh, well-seasoned and don't taste like it's the third day they have been reheated. The naan was kind of gummy but that's my only complaint. Probably because it had been lingering too close to the steam from the other dishes. Even the rice is nicely seasoned, with an occasional bay leaf sticking out of it. (I didn't eat the bay leaf) The paneer was wonderful. Best Indian I have had in a looong time.

The best Carrot Halwa(pudding) I have eaten in the US. I have only been here for the buffet, so not sure about the service. The chole(chick peas) is pretty close to one of the best I have ever had as well. My wife swears by the chicken tikka masala. The buffet is awesome and totally worth the money you pay for it.

Oh man. I really hate writing these kind of reviews - especially for smaller businesses trying to make it in this world - but I also believe if you are going to make it, you have to do what you do and do it well. We called at 7:45 and asked if we made it by 8:30, could they serve us. They said yes, they do not close until 9. We arrived at 8:20 and they refused to seat us. Said they were closing. The place had one other table and I am guessing they just wanted to leave - but we made a special trip after working all day and were starving. They finally relented and sat us. We tried to be really nice and be good customers and order quickly, etc. They continued to be unfriendly. The food was mediocre and being a vegetarian, I ordered the chile paneer dish - which I will admit was good, but I ended up really sick later on that night. I really do have this feeling that it was cross contaminated with the lamb and chicken dishes my friends ordered - which I know can happen, but it would be great if kitchens, especially ethnic ones that tout vegetarian dishes, would be more aware of this issue. The Naan basket, which is my favorite part of eating Indian, was soggy and not very flavorful. All and all, we didn't have a good time and will not be going back when we are in town for work next.

Great take out food. Terrible take out service. I've never dined there. Only take out. Food is outstanding. Problem is with take out experience. They don't bother tracking your name or phone number. So if you are not the only take out order expect 20 questions. Did you order blah, blah, blah. What about blah, blah, blah. If you are the person picking up but say your spouse ordered, forget about it. If you can't identify the order, they resort to "is it the small order or big order". Lol. As if you are privy the size of your order relative to that of others! It's quirky once or twice. Aggregating the third or fourth time. After that, you'll just stop ordering from there. Good luck you kooky dudes! It's not that hard to track orders by name or telephone number!

Very good food, always packed for lunch buffet. A nice change of pace from Chinnar Buffet 1/2 mi away. Does not have quite the cozy atmosphere of the competing buffet. Chicken Tikka was excellent, and some fun stewed Goat! yay. Where do you ever see that? at a buffet no less. Luckily I knew there would be bone shards, apparently a common thing with goat. I'm told these are the same folks who run the Indian Grocery + Gas on 202 in King of Prussia [by the Red Lobster] which is where i often buy fun exotic groceries--bought a few pounds of goat meat once. Not for the faint of heart. Clearly a very popular place, and for good reason.

This place is getting the coveted upgrade from me after my last experience here. It's funny with these Indian buffets. Some places just strike out on occasion. I've had a meal here in the past that I haven't liked. And I've still had better overall experiences with other Indian places. But if they continue to be as good as the last time I had them, which was this past week, they will be among my recommended places. They made a chicken kabob dish this week that was out of this world. The chicken curry had excellent flavor. The tandoori chicken had a smoky quality to it that I had not tasted before in Indian cuisine, but it worked for me. They won me over again. Mango juice on the buffet instead of mango lassi on this day... well, they can't be perfect. I love my mango lassi. But it's still not bad. I do suppose that the jury is still out on whether they are consistent. But at least now, I can say I've had more good meals here than not so good. And the consistency of reviews from others has shown me that maybe they turned it around. Keep it up!

Found within a crowded shopping complex and sandwiched between two popular national chain stores is this delightful find for good Indian cuisine in the KOP area. Typically I prefer to order a la carte when in an Indian restaurant, but today I was forced to go buffet during lunch. There was no option for a la carte, which is reason for 1-star reduction. In retrospect, I'm glad the buffet was the only option because of the chance to try a wide assortment of dishes and flavors. For hot dishes, they featured 10-12 choices including the typical tikka masala, saag paneer, biryani and curries. Their rice and naan were on par or better than most I've had at other sites. The salad bar was about as extensive as I've seen in an Indian restaurant. They had mulligatawny, a rare find in many buffets. And they even feature a dessert station that included 5 choices - three of which were new to me - including a fan fave in gulab jaman. All of this allowed me to choose broadly... leave just as broadly after clearly overeating. But when the food is that tasty, can you blame a guy?? The service was attentive, albeit limited to quick empty plate removal and refills of water. I'd definitely recommend this spot for a quick lunch. Hopefully, I'll be able to try their dinner (and go a la carte) on my next excursion.

I've been to this place 7-8 times thus far - driving nearly an hour each way. So, I really go out of my way to eat at this place. I think this place has the best Indian food in the philly area. I only had their lunch buffet and they never seemed to disappoint. Malai Kofta is to die for. Some of their other dishes come very close to authentic indian taste - not the taste most indian restaurants cater to american consumers. Plus, they have masala tea & mango lassi part of their buffet. How can you beat that??? The atmosphere is so so - not bad for a restaurant in a shopping center. Their sweet deserts can be a hit&miss time to time.

Good indian food. Went with the lowest indian food expectations since I am from NJ where Indian restaurants are great. The chicken liver was very good and lamb pasand was particularly finger lickin good. Got the dessert, which seemed frozen, but would give it 4 stars for sure.

There are some good reviews for this place so before writing this review I actually checked to be sure we went to the same place... I don't write a lot of negative reviews because I tend to research places before I go, but... We walked in and were seated quickly. There was a man and woman at the table closest to the buffet. The man was sneezing, wiping his nose on a napkin, and talking so loudly on the phone that everything was drowned out. When I went to the buffet, he stretched behind himself and almost hit me in the face. I got my food, sat down, and the woman got up and poured some water into my glass. That's when I realized that the guy on the phone was the owner or manager of the place! He also kept walking around, talking on the phone, and aimlessly stirring some of the dishes. The food may not have been too bad, but it was hard to tell through the noise of the phone conversation, sneezing, and later when he decided to go into the back room and yell at someone. Lastly, while paying for the meal, the hostess was also talking on the phone the whole time so that it was difficult to know if she was talking to me or the person on the phone. Terrible. I was really looking forward to giving this place a chance. My wife and I love to sneak out for Indian buffets while the kids are in school, but this one ruined our day. Right now I'm going to take some vitamin C and supplements but if I catch a cold in the next few days I know where I got it. With all of the Indian places around, it's not hard to avoid this one and have one that won't just ruin your afternoon.

The wife loves to go here for the weekend lunch buffet and I don't mind a bit. There are usually many Indian patrons; always a good sign. Plenty of variety and everything is fresh and cooked appropriately. If you are near the KOP malls, it will take you about 5 minutes to get there. It's located in a plaza so there is plenty of parking. It's a nice change from the joints surrounding the mall.

I recently went to Taste of India for their lunch buffet. There wasn't all that many options. Food was so so.

  • Miriam W.

This place has a solid lunch buffet with some nice touches, such as the poori that were available alongside that Indian buffet staple, naan, on my last visit. When I come here I always get the buffet for two, to go, and the guys in the front are most accomodating, offering additional packaging if I need it, and naan fresh from the kitchen and wrapped in tin foil. There are usually plenty of veggie dishes to choose from, and they don't back off on the heat. Flavorful, well prepared food, that, while it probably won't win any awards, always satisfies.

This place is decent, but nothing special. My family came here a lot when I was growing up- it's the main place to get Indian food in the Devon/Berwyn area. I tried the buffet a few times for lunch and felt like the food had been sitting out for a little too long- the tandoori chicken was flavorful but too salty and dry, and the gulab jamun was too sweet and syrupy for my taste. My favorite has always been the chana masala with a side of poori and a mango lassi. However, if you ask for your food to be made mild, they tend to forget, which is a nuisance for people with hypersensitive taste buds like me. What I don't like about this place in general is the decor- it's dark and has little ambience, and is always very, very cold (bring a sweater, especially in the summer). The service is totally lackluster- it's pretty slow and the people aren't warm or engaged at all. It can be pretty hard to get your waiter's attention if you need anything, because they spend a lot of time in the kitchen. The food is pretty good, but the experience of coming here isn't enjoyable.

Well a glutton for punishment I am - I decided to get take out this time. Again, I have to say that I think it is a little over priced. Portions were OK - and I was happy to get the all of the condiments in little take away boxes. Food was ready when they said it would be and it was still hot when I got back. Cooks knife skills are terribly lacking - different sized cuts of peppers and onions in the Chicken Shishlak, I think this also leads to my just OK rating for the price. The Keema Samosa was great! Wonderful pastry and lots of nice lamb filling. Its close, Ill probably go back, and Ill definitely do take out rather than dine in.

Just a few thoughts regarding the quality of the food before I start on the quality of service: I've certainly had better Indian cuisine. This was nothing write home about. Average buffet setup with a limited selection. If I had to point out two highlights of the meal, it was the Mango Lassi and the Chicken Curry. Those were probably two of the only things worth consuming. The Naan was unusually dry and broke apart. There were chips of bone inner mixed in the Mutton that someone could have potentially chipped a tooth on if not careful. The fried cheese ball soaked in sugar and honey was beyond sickening sweet. The rice was crunchy, obviously not cooked thoroughly. Most of the cuisine was very heavy on the stomach to the point of nauseous, making for a very uncomfortable rest of the afternoon. The quality of service was less than to be desired. Instead of being greeted and lead to our seat when we first arrived, a man came out from the kitchen and pointed to where we were to sit. After disappearing the back for about five minutes, he came out with residue spotted silverware and a pitcher of water. There was no greeting offered, no inquiry if we had been here before. He quickly filled the glasses and left. (Not to mention this would be the LAST time we would get our glasses filled.) We observed our surrounding environment, noticing others who appeared to be regulars helping their selves to the buffet, so we followed suit. One of the bullet points on the buffet etiquette list at the beginning of the line was to always take a clean plate if returning to the buffet. Good thing we weren't hungry when we arrived there, because we probably would have created the leaning tower of plates! None of the wait staff returned to collect the dirty dishes, NOR was there a place to leave the dirty ones behind! When it came time to pay the bill, the gentleman at the front promptly stated the amount. He took the exact change and said nothing as we thanked him upon leaving. Not even a "Thank-you"' "Come back again" or even, "Get the hell out". Nothing. Overall rude wait staff and mediocre food provides for a poor dining experience. I'm not sure who in their right mind would nominate them for a readers choice award in both 2004 & 2006. I'm also confused by the 4 and 5 star reviews others have given this place. Perhaps I came on a bad day? Maybe everyone got yelled at in the kitchen before we arrived? Perhaps I wore the wrong color? Who knows! All I can say is I'm convinced I would have had a better dining experience along the side of the Schuylkill Expressway, gagging on exhaust and flying debris than I did here.

Serious hygiene problems! 1. left over dishes were collected from table and dumped individually BACK (!!!) to the buffet serving station - this is a serious violation by health department; 2. Naan and silver wares (the eating part) were massively touched by hands upon serving! Food is ok, given the fact it is PA (very homogenous, and very little culture exposure in general). However this quality vs price will not survive a day in Manhattan - even those all taste-the-same restaurants Curry Line (little India in NYC) tastes million times better, and way cheaper than Taste of India!

Fresh, reasonably priced, good variety, friendly service are all some of the reasons we think taste of India has the best Indian food in the area.

I love myself some good Indian food and Taste of India fits the bill perfectly. As a native of the San Francisco bay area, when I moved to Philadelphia I found myself missing the great selection of Indian food restaurants that I was used to, and had to find myself a replacement. Taste of India was the best, by far. Even though they do not have a large selection at the lunch buffet, the selection is always delicious! Plus, they do not shy away from spicy dishes, as some other local Indian restaurants do. The dinner prices are a bit more expensive, but I always try to make room for some chicken makhni every time I'm in the area. You will not be disappointed.

This is one of the Taste of India locations, conveniently located in the Gateway Shopping Center - the other is in Exton, PA. Their dining room isn't exactly the largest (and their nice chandeliers make the space look even smaller), so beware, it can get crowded quickly, as this is a popular lunch spot. Luckily there's lots of parking. For the past two years, I've only had the buffet lunch here ($8), and wholeheartedly recommend the chicken biryani, chana masala, and chilly [sic] chicken, easily my favorite dish there. Each dish had a constant low level heat to it, thanks to the Indian spices, and I was sweating a little when I left. Stop by for a filling meal!

Driving around, looking for a place for dinner, we passed Taste of India and my co-worker asked "Is this place a chain?" I couldn't blame her...80% of the Indian restaurants I see have "India" in the name, along with some random food related word. "Flavor of India", "India House", and here we have "Taste of India". I was a bit worried when we walked in and the place was desolate. I was even more worried when the food took some time to come out even though the house was empty. We had ordered some garlic naan, chicken tikka masala (medium spiciness) and lamb chennai (spicy spiciness). They also brought out some rice and yogurt (which I'd never seen brought out before). The chicken turned out to not really be spicy at all, but it still had a great, thick flavor. The lamb did have a kick, and while I couldn't really taste any coconut in the sauce, it was decent and meaty. The naan was good as well. Overall the experience was pretty ordinary (and a bit pricey), except for the end when our waited handed out hot towels and a fruit basket to dive into. That was a nice touch, but nothing to really make it memorable.

Solid Indian buffet located very conveniently to many working in the Wayne / KoP area. I have been here twice and both times have been pleased with the quality and taste of the food. The Naan is excellent, as well as many of the chicken and vegetable dishes. Very good flavors. The service is a little bit of a drop off considering that there is usually 1 person refilling water and oftentimes they do not even fill the glass to the top. I appreciate a nice amount of refills, especially when eating spicy food. That being said, I don't think they have much of a reason to change anything as the place is typically packed to the gills. If the service was a bit better, I would give it more stars.

Great indian food, mainly a mix of punjabi and gujurati dishes - even better its a lunch buffett! The prices keep going up for the lunch buffet (only time I've been) but it's still really tasty. I love the super soft naan, chilli chicken, raita and red/orange onions. Lots of selection too!

I went here with my family a couple of weeks ago. We go the buffet and it was really good. Not excellent, but really good. I plan on going back there again.

Co-workers and I have been going to the lunch buffet once every month or two for years and love it! Now, I'm not too well versed in Indian food, so don't have much to go on. But, I am an experienced "eater", if you will, and this place has great eats! Favs are the naan, chicken tikka masala and sagg paneer (equates to spiced creamed spinach in my book). Also love the mango yogurt drink and milk tea. I scoffed at the idea of a buffet at first, but this one is worth your while. It's a great way to try a lot of different types of Indian food without emptying your pocketbook or ordering something that you wish you had only sampled before committing. It's very busy here at lunch during the week- the service on plate clearings, water, and keeping the buffet well stocked is great.

Very good food and service! Would highly recommend the chicken shahi korma. Was also impressed to see extra rice was added to our leftovers to take home. No reason this shouldn't be considered the best in the Main Line area.

I was surprised at how much I actually liked this place. Found out about it on Yelp and decided to give it a try. We have done take-out once and tried the buffet another time. For the take-out we got Chicken Makhani and the tandori chicken. Both were very good and the portion sizes were pretty good. The tandori chicken had great flavor all the way through the meat and not just on the outside skin/meat. I bet it was cooked for a long time in those delicious spices. I love a little heat to my Chicken Makhani and that's just the way it is prepared here. The prices are slightly more than I pay for Indian food, but if I have a craving and if I'm in the area, I would swing by. The buffet is good and bad. The bad is that if you go on the weekends, you have to eat the buffet. There is no choice and you can't eat off the menu. I'm not a huge buffet fan so that was the first no no. Also, the food in the buffet kind of tastes the same and there wasn't much variety, but it's a pretty good deal if you can eat a lot. The mango drink was very sweet and refreshing! Since I hate buffets but like the food, three stars is fair.

Ate during the lunch buffet. Not terribly impressed, the food was slightly below average and the goat curry was stringy and I found three bone shards. If you are hungry and want a lunch where you don't have to wait for service then you'll be fine. otherwise I would pass.

I used to be a regular here for their lunch buffets a few years ago, which I thought used to be about $7/person. But when I came here about a month ago, the check was ~$25/2 people! And for that, they lose a star. Besides the price, the food here is actually quite good. The buffet is great for newbies to Indian cuisine. Good variety, decent service, and although I'm not an Indian food connoisseur, it fits my tastebuds just fine. For those with a sweet tooth, try a Gulab Jamun - its like biting into a sugary, syrupy-soaked doughnut.

So, my first Indian experience goes to Taste of India. I must say, it was impressive. The dining room is rather small. Luckily Taste of India has a buffet so I didn't have to decide on just one meal. It was a rather small buffet but gave alot of variety. The place was empty when we arrived right before noon but starting getting busier as we were leaving. I tasted pretty much a bit of everything. It was a very filling meal. Luckily I went with someone who knew his stuff and explained every dish and what I could expect from them. The rice mixed with the chana masala seemed to be my favorite. Pick and choose what you like then go up for seconds :) The desserts were good. It was interesting at first but give them a shot. I was surprised at how good they were. The staff was pretty adamant about refilling our glasses of water. I felt they were at our table every couple of minutes. Maybe they should get bigger cups or leave a pitcher of water on each table. We paid a little over $11 for our lunch (each). After reading some other reviews I see they changed their pricing a bit. I could still smell the aroma of Indian spices coming out of my pores.

Has anyone ever noticed the owner (large man) treat his staff very rudely? I have never seen anything like it and especially in front of customers (YELLING from the kitchen and in the dining area, pointing, ordering them around, degrading them). Our bill also had 18% gratuity already added for 5 people. I hope this tip goes towards the staff in the kitchen who are doing a fine job of cooking meals and cleaning our tables - they deserve all the credit (notice the only work the owner will do is bring out your entree so you can praise him). I'll sadly never forget this experience.

Great Buffet ... Mango lassi included in price... Everything was delicious. My husband who is a huge fan of the buffett was really in love with this one. I think he was so happy that I saw a tear roll down his cheek.

Since we both commute to the Main Line, the manpiece and I meet up here after work sometimes to grab a quick bite to eat and evade particularly horrendous rush hour traffic on Rte. 76. So far, everything we have ordered has been incredible--especially Paneer Chilly and Chicken Chennai. And it doesn't get any better than sopping up the savory sauces with Pudina Paratha (whole wheat griddle bread stuffed with mint). I also highly recommend Rasmalai, a custardy rosewater-flavored treat, for dessert. Other reviewers commented about the prices being a bit steep, but it was only 30 for two people for the dinner menu. Plus, there's always plenty of leftovers for a second meal as well. You totally get your money's worth in terms of quality and quantity. A legitimate complaint, and the reason a star fell off of my review, is that the service could be better. The hostess/waitress isn't very attentive and at one point actually refilled our water while talking on the phone. At least we weren't parched? I don't know. It was very odd. The busboys keep you happy though. We don't live around there, but if you do, take advantage of the BYOB sitch and bring along some yummy wine.

No real decor / Not inexpensive / but the food's tasty and they'll adjust the spice tolerance to your preference - It's the Indian restaurant I always come back to... Favorites- Chicken Makhani - Vegetable Samosa - Lamb Sagwalla --

I usually go for the lunch buffet. Northern Indian style, like most of the places around here. The tandoori is superior. It is tender and not overcooked, like some I have encountered. The nan is also to be recommended. They have rogan josh, as well. The gravy is quite good and the lamb enveloped therein was extremely tender. The navratan (nine jewel) vegetable korma is also a hit. They have carrot halwa and, for a buffet, good jamuns and rasmalai! It is one of the best buffets I have been to, the only small tweaks would be making sure there is chai available and also add meat to the already flavorful bones in the goat curry.

Food is great, but the service is next to horrible. Every time that I go in with my family, we have to flag down the waiter (keep in mind that we go early enough in the evening that we are the only ones in the joint) to order, then wait the interminably long time it takes for them to bring the food out. Also, if you are going to order gulab jamun, just don't. They will not bring it out to you. Even if you remind them three or more times, you will likely just decide to leave instead of seeing if they will actually bring it out to you. Only once did they bring it out. The other times I ordered it, they never brought it and we never even got a second look from our waiter after he gave us our entrees. Now I simply walk up to the main counter and tell them that, although I did order it, they, again, did not bring it out, so just scratch it from my check, m-kay? My advice is to simply order it all to go and arrive well after they say you should. Maybe then you will actually get your damned gulab jamun! *Yes, I am bitching and moaning about gulab jamun. There has to be a first for everything on yelp, right? ****UPDATE**** I finally got my gulab jamun tonight. It only took forever and a day, but that made up for the otherwise bad review.

Dear sweet yelpers. If it weren't for you, I wouldn't have given this place a second thought. We were looking for someplace different. And I have had an aversion to Indian food since my first trimerster of pregnancy, which was well over two years ago (No, I'm not an elephant. I've given birth since then). But since having an aversion, it wasn't something that has interested me since. I'm not really quite sure where the wild hare came from, but when I saw the reviews, I really wanted chicken makhani, which pleased my husband to no end, since he's been denied Indian food for the last two years. We went in around 6 and it was dead. Like, I heard crickets in the background dead, which made me worried, because I tend to avoid restaurants that are in shopping centers. I know this has no bearing on the restaurant, I'm just an odd bird. At the same time, we dragged the toddler with us, who is still good in restaurants, but you know that people are always staring at you like you're one of THOSE people, but I digress, and I'll shut up now and tell you how mother effing GOOD this place was. Did I say mother effing good? Because, sweet merciful heavens, people.... this place was fantastic. The chicken makhani was so good that I wanted to make it into a makhani flavored breath mint, just so I could have that taste in my mouth, forever and always. The vegetable korma was really good too. The only slight mishap was that my husband was really stoked to have some gulab jaman, but they forgot to put the order in, and by the time the server remembered, the toddler was making us out to be those people. So we didn't get to have any of the gulab juman. But thankfully, we have makhani leftovers. I will say that it does fill up quickly around dinner time, and the restaurant is small, so getting there around 5:30-6 is probably your best bet.

If you ask me, this is one of the more reliable, tasty Indian buffet places, in an area crowded with similar restaurants. The tandoori, chicken lollipop, chicken makhani and palek paneer are highly recommended. Their Gulab Jamun (small donut balls in sugar syrup) are usually nice and warm too.

Since I recently had a small lifestyle change that precludes my driving out to Himalayan for my weekly Indian Lunch Buffet treat, I started going to Devi in Exton. While I like Devi a lot, they have been victims of their own success and lunch on the weekends can be very crowded and loud. Further, I have missed the spiciness of the food at Himalayan that just isn't present at Devi. Also, Devi is always lackadaisical in replenishing the bread, which is an annoyance. Long story short, we decided to try Taste of India. And we are very glad that we did! Their lunch buffet offers more selections than Devi, is kept well refreshed, and the food is excellent and lively! 2/3 of the buffet is Vegetarian and on weekends they have 2 types of breads and 2 soups, as well as salad, desserts, labni, pakoras, samosas, and a compliment of excellent entrees. The staff is pleasant and the interior, while generally kept on the dim side, is clean and nicely decorated. They offer a broad and equally delicious full-service menu for night-time dining. Taste of India is now our new "go to" place for Indian Buffet Lunch and the guests that we've brought have been as happy with the place as we (and have returned to prove it). Located in Fairfield Shopping Center in Exton in the corner between Giant and Ross, parking can be a bit distant depending on what time but there are always spaces. Their prices for buffet are currently $12 weekdays and $13 weekends. See Also: Devi: yelp.com/biz/devi-indian… Himalayan: yelp.com/biz/himalayan-e…

Well, its weird to write an update that gives the same rating, but I returned to this place today after being away for a while, and have some new info... First, yes, the prices did go up. $13.75 per person if I recall correctly. Yes, that is high. But it seemed like the quality of food went up, as did the variety and presentation. Not a huge difference but as someone who has been here many times I noticed it. Maybe it was because we ate here before the lunch rush (instead of after), but the dishes were uniformly fresh and excellent. Another nice touch is the serve-yourself mango drink station. No, its not a Lassi, but it ain't water either...and its free. Looked like they had some more desserts too, but I was too stuffed to even think about it. Like I said before, look at this place as being two meals, not one, and in that light the price is not bad at all. Best Indian in the KoP area. Just to be on the safe side crowd-wise, get here at or before noon.

Have been here for buffets, great selection and food tastes awesome. Different spices and aroma in each of dishes and specializing in north indian food. Sat/Sun buffet is much better with much more choices than the weekday buffet.

The food here is incredible, there's no doubt and the buffet is a great value. Yet every time I come, there is something shady going on: this most recent time, they refused a patron's credit. They also charge a $10 minimum to use your credit card, which isn't posted anywhere. This results in the person usually paying more for their meal. Also, I went in there to order take out dinner one weekday night at around 5 PM...the doors were open, but it was dark when I walked in...there were several (waitstaff?) lying on the floor between the tables. They yelled out: we're closed! Frigging weird...I've ordered take out dinner from there before so needless to say I was surprised. There is another choice in the area called Chinnar in the Pathmark shopping center. The buffet is a little more spartan, but has all the regular favorites. It seems cleaner, more well-lit and also less um...shady.

As far as Indian lunch buffets go, this place is what I would consider as gold standard. So, this review will focus on the awesomeness of Indian Lunch Buffet. Here are the pros: 1- There is always a huge variety of choices. Compared to different Indian buffets where there are maybe 5-6 different dishes, Taste of India usually has 10+. 2- The price was $6.95 last time I went. I think they may have bumped up the price a bit for lunch but pretty sure it's still under $10. 3- They have different types of lassi (mango, rose, etc tho my fave is mango lassi) 4- They almost always have kheer and gulab jamun (sp?) as standard desserts. They will also have 1 or 2 different types of halva, some burfee (not pistacchio :( boo), that orange funnel cake like thing, and some other typical Indian sweets. 5- As long as the head cook/manager/owner dude is there, the food will be prepared correctly. 6- They serve puree! (a puffy fried bread) 7- They serve different means aside from just chicken tikki masala and chicken tandoori -- they have lamb and goat, but more frequently will have goat. 8- They have a lot of different vegetarian dishes. The cons: a- They don't serve their na'an fresh for the table. It's part of the buffet. That's fine but that means the na'an sits out a bit if others don't get it. b- I can't ever remember their chana masala, so it doesn't really stick out too much. Overall, like I said, it's probably the best lunch buffet for Indian food. I've tried the other couple of places in KOP, the small one off Route 1, another in Mt. Laurel NJ, etc. but none of these compare to TOI. I find myself coming back to this place more often than not when in need of Indian food, buffet style.

there are at least 4 or 5 Indian buffets in the KOP area, but this one is consistently my favorite. it's also offers the biggest variety. my coworkers and i come here at least once a month and have never left hungry (my personal record is 5 plates). it's a great place for someone who has never tried Indian before because you can try so many different things. the fact that there is usually a large and diverse crowd at lunch is a testament to how good this place is.

Wouldn't say it's the best Indian food I had, but I suppose it's decent and cheap (for the lunch buffet anyways). On the positive, they had a wide variety of food.
