Healthy Meal suggestions for Outback Steakhouse

I like the fact that this one is open for lunch as it's nearby to where I work, so we come here from time to time for lunch. It's never really busy at lunch, so that's kind of nice. Staff has always been friendly and service has always been quick. I've only had one problem here which was about a year ago and someone in the group I was with found a hair in their food. Both the waitress and the manager handled the situation. They were extremely apologetic, comped his meal, offered to bring him a new one, plus gave him a coupon for a free meal on his next visit. While finding a hair in your food is bad, it's still not as bad as finding sharp blade in your bread, which I did at another restaurant, and unfortunately, didn't find it until it entered my mouth! But that's for another story! So while it's unfortunate that these things do happen on occasion, at least it was handled well. My coworkers and I will continue to stop in here from time to time. The only other downside really is the location. Parking and getting in/out of the Gateway Shopping Center can be a real bear sometimes!

I live nearby and stop at this Outback location perhaps twice a month. Although part of a chain, the food seems to be of good quality and it's usually well prepared. You can be assured that almost every fussy eater will find something on the menu to like (well, vegetarians excepted.) The staff are uniformly pleasant and have always been attentive without being overly chatty. The managers are eager to solve any problems which arise. On a recent visit, my steak was overdone. It was okay, and I was halfway through it when the waitress checked in on me. She immediately offered to have a new steak cooked. I declined, saying it was no big deal. A minute or two later the manager was checking in to make sure I was satisfied and gave me a card for a free appetizer for my trouble. If you're at this Outback near closing time you'll see the staff scrubbing away at tables across the room. Of course this wouldn't fly in a five star restaurant, but it reassures me that they're committed to keeping the place super clean. Positives; good value, multiple entree portion sizes, pleasant help, responsive management. Negatives; predictable menu, acoustics could be better (especially by the kitchen), occasional long waits. And the grilled cherry tomatoes (a garnish with some of the seafood items) are ADDICTIVE.

To celebrate St. Patrick's Day, we decided to stop in for Irish car bombs. A friendly bartender (Allison) helped make us a few. We needed three, but when it came time to find shot glasses for the Bailey's, she only could rustle up two. We eventually got creative and I ended up with a shots worth of the delicious stuff in a glass, which I then poured into my Guinness with gusto. It tasted like a car bomb should: smooth and delicious. I've only been here for drinks, but I would imagine the level of cooking is on-par with any other Outback. (If you rate this review as "Useful", you're on crack.)

Meeting a friend's significant other for the first time can be a very traumitizing experience. You want it to go perfectly. You want them to love you and think you're funny and nice and will want to continue to have you around. Especially when its your best friend from college, and its her husband of 8 months. Now before you all go thinking "man Michelle's a bad friend!" I have met him twice... for a total of 5 minutes... once drunk at a tailgate and then in the recieving line at the wedding. Its just that every time i came to visit them, he had other stuff going on so i never got to hang out. But this time, I was hanging out with him and was determined to make a good impression. The only problem... my friend knows WAY too much about me :) And knew that when she said, "I'll get a drink if you have one", i would get the sangria. Which was delicious! Different, but highly delicious...as was her mai tai. Then was the pressure to order the "Bloomin Onion". Which is awesome, but greasy and gross, but still amazing. But not something i want this guy i've never met to see me chow down on! And rather than ordering a steak, which i really was not in the mood for, i opted for the "Bloomin Burger". MORE BLOOMIN ONIONS! The burger was thick and juicy and perfectly cooked. It was topped with cheese and bloomin onions! Very good. It came with fries, but i was so full i couldn't even finish them. We almost ordered the "chocolate thunder from down under" for desert, but i think my friends husband was concerned about his own chocolate thunder from down under! The food was good and we called ahead and got on the waiting list to be seated at 715, yet we were seated at 6:50, so that was nice. I felt like i was going to explode when i left. And while it may not have been the best first impression food, it was definitely an authentic Michelle meal.

I went to Outback for the first time last night. Yes I know: Where have I been?!?. I realize I've been missing out. We got the blooming onion which was surprisingly good (I'm not a big fan of onion). It was actually addicting as well so I had to force myself to stop picking at it. I was satisfied with the prime rib. I had fresh veggies and garlic mash potatoes as my sides. I was glad the veggies were steamed perfectly, they were nice and soft but not at all mushy. The service was perfect. We didn't have to wait long for anything and got exactly what we asked for. The place itself is nice for any informal occasion. It works well for a date or just friends getting together. It was dim but not dark. It was pretty loud but we had kids sitting around us so that could have be the cause of the noise. It wasn't annoyingly loud. In general, Outback is a good place to grab an affordable steak but keep the quality. I would definitely go back.

Bloomn' Onion. How can you say no? Yes it is gimmicky and klishy, but you knew that. The sweet potato with cinnamon side is to die for, and they recently added some pastas and salads that are just as good as their filet. Dessert is nothing special, save room for the onion.

This was a letter I sent to Outback Corporate about this location: Date: October 4, 2012 Time: Noon to 1:30 PM Where do I begin with this complaint? This Outback is in a location that is designed to garner lunch traffic, and advertises they are open for lunch. Even though the "unlimited soup and salad" special has changed in a way that this fact alone would preclude me from returning, we decided as a lunch group to attempt to have a positive dining experience once again. I was a weekly patron of this location, and know now that I will never return, as well as the rest of my seven person party who attended on October 4, 2012. I am an educated and frequent diner, and not someone that complains often, but when I do, I make sure the staff at the location and corporate headquarters are aware of it. * As a lunch location, you should know that speed and accuracy of the meal is paramount, as business professionals we have a limited time frame to be away from the office. This did not seem to be a priority for anyone involved; the wait staff, the management, or the kitchen. W * We ordered seven meals, with a small appetizer, 2 salads, and one soup. There is no way that total meal should be 1.5 hours. ZERO. This is completely unacceptable and made for a very rushed eating, and hurried overall dining experience. The salads and soups alone took close to 20 minutes to arrive. With so little preparation, I cannot fathom how this took this long. * Never once did our waitress apologize or express any interest in the fact that this food was so delayed. Appetizers and soups/salads are not meant to be eaten so late in the experience. She came over ONE time before this to barely offer more drinks and drop off bread, but throughout the meal she was extremely inattentive and frankly disinterested in the entire experience. * Note: the dining room was not what I would consider "busy" by any stretch of the imagination * When the food finally did arrive, the lunch sized salad portions from a cost/benefit perspective are frankly laughable. For a restaurant that seems to want to offer affordable food for a large public, this is nothing of the sort. $10 for a side salad sized meal with some chicken or steak thrown on top is frankly unacceptable. * When the manager came over to casually ask how the meal was going, I mentioned that it was not only slow, but the portion sizes are unacceptable. She mentioned that was the size of the lunch portions and offered additional greens only. Never once was my comment around the speed of the restaurant ever mentioned or remarked upon, and she never came by again. Frankly, her commitment to quality and customer satisfaction was deplorable. It was obvious from our continued looking around for our wait staff and my outright complaint that we were dissatisfied with our entire experience. She did nothing to try and rectify this situation whatsoever. She never returned to the table or apologized for anything. * The final bill was $102, we left a $10 tip, which after reflection was probably still too much Note that I will NEVER return to this Outback location ever, for lunch or dinner. I am appalled that after seeing your CEO/Owner on channels like the Food Network discussing customer satisfaction that your internal management staff would not espouse those same virtues. Frankly it is unacceptable. I will be posting this on Yelp and various other review sites, so know that this story will be out there publically. I may also never return to an Outback Steakhouse (and I shutter to use that phrase to describe your sub-par overall product) ever again. You have my contact information so if you need additional details, feel free to reach out. Your lost patron, Scott Landis

For a long time, Outback was my favorite restaurant. I order the same thing every time I go there, the 9 oz. outback special (MW), with a baked potato (cheese, butter, bacon), and a Caesar salad. Top it off with a Sam Adams and I always leave feeling WAY overfilled. There's nothing special about this specific location, though I have never had to wait long for a seat there, which is a nice change of pace for Outback. The servers are always friendly, and unlike a lot of places in the area, I can't ever remember being annoyed with waiters taking to long here (my biggest pet peeve is waiting for a course or the bill).

This place used to be awesome. Outback is a great chain place where you can get a decent steak and have the bloomin onion and other goodies. However recently this place has been having some issues. The service at one time was great is now just average. I've been here twice and BOTH times I've received bad service (wrong order, messed up order). Then the last time we went we basically received the incorrect food (my fiance did) and we complained and they took it back. Fast forward 15 mins, it comes back out and is wrong again. The food is good when it is right but this place is medicore for some reason now. Maybe its new owners, or a new manager but something is different and it is just not that good anymore. The ONLY good about this place is there is usually NO waits...hence the "Hidden Outback".

The stage was set, a calm balmy Wayne PA night, when I found myself hungering for a good steak. I had just gotten back from Australia, and I found myself drawn to the "Outback Steakhouse". As I walked in, I was warmly greeted, and promptly seated. My waiter was right over, and soon enough, my order had been placed. But after my beverage had been delivered their clever charade fell by the wayside. My bearded waiter flat out refused to offer service, snubbing me at ever opportunity. Bottom line, the steaks great, but the service? Questionable. AT BEST!

The thing that makes Outback great is that the food is as consistent as Cal Ripken Jr. You always know that your steak is going to be just as good as it was the last time because they have their cooking process down. Everyone has eaten at Outback, you know what you're getting.

We took my mother here for her annual birthday dinner and were pleasantly surprised. The whole restaurant has been remodeled as well as lots of new staff (and plenty of people to help) were everywhere. Although they did mess up my mother's order, the manager, Eric, was super apologetic and offered her a $25 gift certificate as well as take her food off the dinner check. Ashley, our server, was polite and great as well. Love the new service!

Hey, what happened here? The Mrs. and I stopped by for dinner a few nights ago, sat at the bar. The place was about 20% occupied, maybe 6 or so at the bar. First.....The whole evening, I had to get the bartenders attention. Second.....Dinner took far too long to arrive, and one dinner was not what was ordered. The correction again took way too long. The new manager came over to chat, could not have been more nice. I asked why the place was near empty, when in the past, it was always crowded. He said they were looking for a new location. Third....When we got the bill, a second round of drinks was omitted. We thought we were getting a free round. Nope, the bartender said she forgot that round, wanted to correct the check. I let her know how slow, and wrong things had been. She, quite reluctantly, gave us the drinks. Mr. Manager, your problem is not geography, its in the kitchen and the staff.

I went to Outback strictly to prove a friend wrong. Let me explain. I have been going to bonefish grille now for a little while now. One of my good friends just moved back into town and I told him about the Bonefish grille. He said that place sucks. I said, "Really? When was the last time you were there?". He didnt remember. He is one of those people who if he gets something stuck in his head than thats the way it is and you cannot change his mind. So I told him, go back to Bonefish try the steak yada yada yada. He then compares the steak to Outback's steak. Thus how we got to where we are today. So (knowing that they are owned by the same people and knowing the way he is) i decided to try outback anyways and compare it to the bonefish grille. Well the atmosphere and decor is just a way different feel then bonefish. It is not as classy, but lets be real, this is something i already knew. As to not drag this out, the service was excellent, attentive, and so on. But the menu is not comparable to bonefish, totally different type of restaurant, but they know what they are thats why his comparison of bonefish to outback is truly appalling. I got the same steak I get at Bonefish and its good, but still not as good as bonefish(as i expected). Basically I knew what i was getting into when going to outback, but just wanted reassure myself. Unfortunately my friend went to bonefish the same night and claimed it was a 6 out of 10 while outback is a 7 out of 10 yet he cant recall the last time he was at outback. If anyone has an opinion on this please share. Thanks in advance.

1.22.13 I have to agree that the staff is great. The food is pretty good too - consistent with all other Outback restaurants, and even though my steak was not cooked to my liking the flavor was great. The mashed potatoes and broccoli were seasoned and cooked well. My only complaint is the women's restoom; it smells pissy. 2.5 stars

I find that the food ranges from pretty good to excellent. This location has recently been refurbished, and is a bit more refined than before. Service is usually quite capable, but occasionally hits a snag- most often with a member of the waitstaff who seems inexperienced or under-trained.

I like it for an occasional lunch, as I did a couple of days ago. Price is about 10$ up from a Panera or Chipotle as examples. Maybe closer to Chilis. But I don't think very many people think of outback as a place for lunch; hence, this location is quiet and a good place to unhurriedly eat a decent meal with good service and read emails on my bb. Couple of tvs in the bar area to stare at sports replays occasionally. I have been getting the steak focaccia. And nice crispy house salad. And of course the brown bread is delicious.

Is a standard Outback Steakhouse. Love the new look though - good job on the design! This is our fall back place when we don't know where to go - the cheese fries and wallaby darns pack on the pounds but are yummy!

Had ribeye melt for lunch. While it was good, it was expensive and not very filling especially for the price. Expected more

I came to this place with my friend tonight. We ordered coconut shrimp with sweat and sour sauce as an appetizer, which is very flavorful. My friend ordered 14- oz Ribeye and medium rare. He said the steak is very juicy. However my woodfire prime Rib is a liitle bit overcooked. I was upset a that time. Fortunately, when the manager came to our table and check if it is okay or not, he replace me a new one for me. The new one is very juicy and tasty. All in all, I love Outback Steakhouse . The waiter is also very nice and friendly. I will come back again.

The hidden Outback! I do not recall ever waiting for a table here! Usually go here with the guys for our Fantasy Football Banquet. This particular time we decided to eat at the bar. Received good service from the 2 bartenders. They kept the drinks flowing, the food coming while we chatted away and watched some NCAA on the flat screen. As always the Bloomin Onion was delicious, it's a staple when I visit any Outback. I went with the Victoria's Filet which was cooked just the way I like it. Baked Potato Soup and A Baked Potato were my other sides. Munched on some wings as well. I like coming with the group so that we can order many apps and sample them to see what is good. Also can't go wrong with Aussie Chips. Although it is a chain the price and service can't be beat at this establishment. Every other Outback in the area takes forever to be seated. I know there are better places in the area to get a steak but I like the atmosphere here when I am with a group of friends. Also can't beat 22oz beers for $4.75.

  • Michelle D.

The worst. Don't waste your time. Messed up everything from our drinks to our desserts and although they ended up comping our meals we'll never visit this one again. Final note: Waiter brought out a tray of water glasses with the STRAWS IN HIS MOUTH!! Gross!!!

I ordered a hamburger the other night. Outback does not know how to make a burger. Third time I ordered one and always had to send it back because it was never the way I ordered. The other night it was back twice and the I gave up and left and went home to a bowl of cereal. DON'T ORDER A BURGER AT THE OB. Also, I noticed another person complained about prices being raised and quality going down. I totally agree. I used to go there all the time but I am starting to give up on the place.

Service was good and quick. I went around 6:30pm tonight. I had the blooming petals for $4 and it was a perfect portion instead of the entire blooming onion. I was dining alone. I had their wings and of course they were delicious. My drink was the Rum punch and for $4 it had a nice kick. Enjoy!!!

Food was good, and love the atmosphere, but the two people serving us were straight off the streets of Philadelphia. Couldn't understand their accent, and one of them mispronounced the word "salmon" so badly that we were confused as to what dish it was when she was serving it to us. The other one cleared my plate when I was finished, and then immediately asked me if I wanted dessert, even though my two dinner companions were still eating. These people are out of their element. We will not be returning to this Outback, which is in the Gateway shopping center.

I used to go here all the time. The food WAS really good and the prices were fair. I went there the other day and this time is my last time. The have been raising the prices non stop to the point that it is clearly insane. The prices went way up and the food quality went way down. Example : I ordered chicken fingers for 12.99. I used to order this when it was only 9.99 and the chicken was really good and the batter was tasty. Now the price went up and I ordered it anyway because they were good. I ordered take away this time and when I got home I felt pissed. The chicken was totally different. It was like the cheap chicken fingers that you give kids that don't know anything about food so who cares. It should have come with a picture to color in with crayons. The fries were really sad. A few thrown in a sad box and many were brown from being burned but they were also soggy. I don't know how you do that but it happened. They come with honey mustard and I asked for a side of buffalo as well. I only got the buffalo. I know this is nit picking but if I pay all this money just make it right. I'm not asking for a lot. Just give me the honey mustard and the buffalo sauce. Does this break the company? I just felt robbed. This place has changed to much over the years. It went from good quality food to cheap dinner food. You can sell cheap food but don't charge steak prices. I'm done. This has happened several times now and this was the last straw for us. What is going on? Are you trying not to go out of business?

Great service first off, never has an empty glass. Porterhouse medium with a horseradish crumb top. Garlic mash, grilled scallops and a caesar salad to go with. Phenomenal. Love their appetizers.... Wings they have get them hot, little more cooked.. The ahi tuna... The famous bloomin onion... Quesidilla (however its spelled) all are great. One of my favorite steak houses

  • Peter L.

Very disappointing. OBSH has alwaus been in the upper price range of casual dining chains and if the food is good and the portions hearty, no problem. Salads were fresh yet very skimpy. The dressing was an afterthought. The bread was wonderful, the butter was 1/2 the size it needed to be. Prime rib medium rare was dry and tough. It tasted precooked and warmed over. Will not be returning.

We ordered 4 dinners. We opened the takeout boxes in the office......Guess what? Hearts of mahi got no hearts on it, in fact, got nothing on it! I guess Outback just meant to give us a clear and better view of a piece of dry fish! Chicken on the Barbie? Got no Barbie, but just chicken breast stands alone, dry and stupid in the box! For 4 dinner orders, one piece of bread! And! We are supposed to eat with fingers! No napkin no knife no fork....... What a service! Cross Outback off our list!

I've gone there for lunch a few times. Service has always been friendly, food comes quick, food is pretty good for the price and I can walk out with a bill around $10. The clam chowder is a must have and they have these little milkshake desserts that are fantastic. All is all very good price to quality/service ratio.

Every now and then, i feel like I need to check in on Outback to see if they have gotten better in my eyes. I used to like them in my younger and less experienced dining days (not that I'm really any snobby expert now, but I like to think I've learned a bit more about what makes a really good experience since then). It's not that the food is bad necessarily. Well, a couple of times in my past it has been. It's just that nothing ever seems to be quite right. I ordered the steak medium. The waitress even bothered to explain to me that medium meant a small strip of red in the center. I understood. But what I got had much more red than what they told me. (I ate it anyway) I asked for shrimp on my Caesar Salad, they told me that would cause the salad to be delayed, and asked if I would like the salad with my meal. Well, no that's not the point. But it all came out at the same time anyway. Chain places never can seem to get the kitchen organized. Everything tasted just OK. However, if it wasn't for the horseradish based sauce that the shrimp came out in, which I dipped everything in from my shrimp to my steak to my baked potato, it would have been just an average meal. That sauce saved it. At least the servers were very nice.

  • Olivia M.

The atmosphere is nice, but except for the few items where you get your money's worth (like the $10.00 six oz sirloin with one side), this place is not that cheap. We ordered: 6 oz sirloin with diablo sauce, broccoli side half rack ribs with fries bloomin onions dessert trio strawberry mango margarita The entrees were mediocre (although the ribs were on the good end of mediocre), the bloomin onions were burnt, the dessert trio tasted like it came from the refrigerator of a drugstore and the strawberry mango margarita, although delicious, was 90% ice. The waitress was nice but forgot multiple things throughout the meal. Would I go back? Perhaps for a casual meal, but I'd have to think about it.
