The first thing you have to get past, is the exceptionally loud, ridiculously bad, music. Where do they find covers of Fleetwood Mac? Blasphemy! It is so loud that you might as well forget trying to talk to whomever you are with. Think you'll just eat outdoors? Ha! It's twice as loud out there! The food is ok, but you have to eat off plastic plates, and by the end of your burrito, you are eating the soaked paper that is underneath. Very awkward trying to manage all that is on the plate. At least you aren't trying to talk while eating! If you are hearing impaired, don't mind noisy chairs being dragged across the floor, (horrible acoustics inside) or that music blasting drowning out your conversation, you may appreciate that you at least get decent sauce, chips, and guacamole. Be warned...it's also a magnet for after-work parents who let their kids run amuck. Who has the energy to tell their kid to sit quietly and eat?

I come to Mesa all the time. Great for lunch and dinner. I love their nachos, tacos and platters. The staff is super friendly and service is pretty quick. They're great for take-out too!! Check em out!

I ate there Friday for lunch. I had the Norte chicken burrito. The items were fresh and the size was big! They give you chips and salsa with your order. The cashier Mike was off at first. He put my change and receipt on the counter. I don't like that. He didn't greet me like the other cashiers greeted people. Once my order was up, he did tell me to have a good day. I would definitely eat here again. The burrito wasorder and the price was 9 bucks. No drink incl .

We have tried it twice. Bad both times. One dish was cold and had to be returned. It came back only warm. The food was just edible. Nothing more.

Meh. I had the fajita burrito smothered with guac. Lack any authenticity of Mexican food and I left feeling it was overpriced. I actually prefer Wegman's burritos to this one.

I'm still a fan but why in the world did you change the menu. Where is the Americano taco? I still like this place regardless.

Quite nice standard Mexican fare. Fresh. Large plate. Tasty. The enchiladas are the real ones. Sort of naked. I like the Americanized with quest so had quesadilla Very good. One thing. There is no air conditioning. Luckily we got one o three tables outside. Inside was intolerably hot. But bathrooms very cold. Chips are good. Dips as well. It is in a strip mall

Stopped here on the way home from Philly. Not bad. Quality of the food was good. Nice atmosphere. Pricing was not too bad, a little on the high side for fast-ish food. However, the quality is good. The food actually looks like the picture on the menu, and looks appetizing. It was a pleasant experience.

Probably more of a 2.5 stars on this one, but I was feeling generous and rounded up. First of all, I need to add a disclaimer that I'm a huge fan of Mexican food (my blood is probably 30% queso). And that includes fast casual options like Qdoba and especially Chipotle. Visited Mesa while in the area doing some shopping and got a veggie burrito bowl. I liked that the burritos come with a side of chips and salsa unlike at Chipotle. However, I felt like the different choices were a bit confusing- I felt like there were 10 options, all of which had one ingredient was different. My veggie bowl consisted of black beans, rice, guac, and a medley of vegetables- zucchini, carrots and green peppers. I thought the guac was good, beans could have used a little spice, and the rice was a yellow spanish rice (I prefer the white cilantro rice like they have at Chipotle). The medley of vegetables was awfully odd to me. I assumed I'd be getting peppers and onions- I guess maybe one of the other 10 options had that instead. The vegetables were cooked well but needed some more spice. In all, I'd agree with some of the other reviewers that referred to this as Americanized Mexican. I wouldn't go out of my way to come here again, but it wasn't the worst meal I've ever eaten.

This is a casual, semi-fast food mexican restaurant similar to Qdoba, Chipotle, Moe's and Baja Fresh. I've eaten at their Paoli location a few times now and the quality continues to be suspect and possibly going down. I've had the taco platter and el norte burrito in the past, today I got the fajita burrito. The tacos were still the worst of any item i've had on the menu, very small tortillas since they only give you 2 and lacking many ingredients. The el norte burrito was better but not great and today, the person who prepared my fajita burrito appears to have forgotten about most of the fajita ingredients and had no idea how to make a burrito. I didn't get any peppers, onions, pico de gallo or sour cream (what are supposed to be the main toppings for such a burrito) until i had eaten over 3/4 of it and even then i only found a tiny bit of sour cream and a few veggies and tomatoes. Overall my burrito was at least 80% rice and generally bland. It is nice that they serve chips and salsa with their burritos and taco platters but like many others have mentioned in their reviews the chips aren't fresh like they usually are at chipotle and the salsa was some of the worst I've ever had (a generic store bought salsa like old el paso would have been greatly preferable). Overall, the food was bland, burrito was filled with rice, it was poorly constructed so you didn't get a mix of the ingredients as you ate it and it was served with some of the worst salsa ever. Yep, today was the last time I'll ever be going to Mesa Fresh, save yourself a trip and go to Chipotle or Qdoba (or pretty much anywhere else) because they are just so much better.

I wanted to update my last review and state that management reached out after I voice my concerns. I really appreciate it and will do business there again I'm sure.

I wish there were better standards of ratings on Yelp or some other criteria for judging different types of establishments eg fine dining vs. fast casual. Any who, I happened upon Mesa Mexican Grill looking for some grub without a Yelp consult but did read a few reviews before drafting mine. Being of Spanish descent and having lived on both coasts as well as having been to Mexico I consider myself a pretty discerning judge of this type of food. Besides I just love Mexican cuisine. I would definitely put Mesa in the fast casual category alongside Chipotle, Qdoda and Baja Fresh. My biggest problem with most of these places is that if you don't come at peak times the food sits in containers all day. If you go to any of these places at 3-4 pm you'll know what I mean. Since I'm eating at Mesa at 11:30am it's fresh. As far as the food here. I chose the Fajita Burrito and got upsold to the platter for a couple bucks more that includes more chips with cheese on them. I like the side bar that includes fresh raw onions, fresh cilantro and jalapeños. I think the accompanying small side of salsa was the worst part of the meal. Sadly cause salsa may be one of the easiest things to make well. Overall, the burrito was good. Healthy portions of chicken and cooked onions inside along with pinto beans and rice. I will definitely return here and would choose this over Baja Fresh(esp. the one in KOP) and Qdoba but wouldn't dare choose this over some of the Authentic Mexican spots in nearby Norristown. And if I'm in Philly, Fogettaboutit!!!! One final note: The gentlemen at the register(the guy with glasses) was beyond sweet and super friendly. Kudos to him.

always make the trip from WC because they're one of the only places around that offer taquitos, which are really good. prices are really good, and the portions are good.

Good, reasonably priced Mexican food. The restaurant itself isn't anything special, but it's a good place to get a quick lunch.

food wasn't very flavorful. Service was good but just seemed like a chipotle knock off with out the customization

Stop in here for lunch from time to time when I'm in the mood for some quick Mexican food. You order at the counter and then wait for your number to be called to go and pick up your food. There's a decent amount of seating, but I would say the tables are on the small side and they are pretty crammed in there. I usually go with the taquitos, which you get four of, plus you get a side of beans (black or pinto). For cheap Mexican food, they actually don't taste to bad. My friends usually get the burritos, and they are HUGE but they do look good. Other than the Gateway Shopping Center being a PITA to park and get out of, you can easily get in and out of here during a lunch hour.

Wish I could give this place 3.5 stars. Food was pretty much what I was expecting. I've been twice this week, using up a gift card I had lying around. I ordered shrimp tacos the first time, a platter that came with rice and beans. Fairly average but tasty nonetheless. Definitely would not recommend ordering them to go, as I did! As with any other tex-mex chain, they package up the entire platter to go, and the bean juice gets not only all over your tacos but in the bag, etc. The second time I ordered the carnitas platter. This was actually pretty good! The pork was really tender and pretty tasty. Came with rice/beans, a couple slices of bananas/plaintains (which, to me, could have done better without), corn or flour tortillas, and a drizzle of sour cream. It was a little pricey for the establishment. The platter and a soda was about 11 bucks. I actually kind of liked the setup though. When you walk in, the counter is directly in front of you, easy to order. And the employees were super nice, the guy packaged up my order both times and walked to the table I was lounging out to give it to me. Even though I was only a few feet away and could have gotten it myself! And the dining area was open but slightly separate from takeout, so you wouldn't be constantly bothered by people in line, etc. Also saw a sign for BYOB, which is probably the biggest reason for me to come back! I think what knocked it down from 4 stars was the incredibly inconvenience of the shopping center. Not only is it huge and super crowded, but people are constantly walking in front of cars, and nobody knows how to drive. It takes about 15 minutes just to drive around and find or get out of a spot. All in all, it was a very pleasant place. While I wouldn't pick it over chipotle or qdoba (tastier and closer to me), if I was in the area I would definitely not mind going back!

Good guacamole and every time I've eaten here I walk away satisfied. $$ wise you can't beat it and the food never disappoints! they have a new menu now too, way cool and more choices..I would highly recommend this spot to anyone looking for some good Mexican!

From Cali to Texas, Mesa is alright for PA Mexican food. Came to PA to work, so my co-workers took me to this place for lunch, and it tasted like any other Americanized Mexican food. Reasonable price but portions are small. Don't expect too much here, it is just working folks needing to feed their stomachs.

In need of Mexican food, I came across this location through Yelp recently. What a great little place! I definitely think it deserves a higher rating. Before coming in, you have to keep in mind that this is essentially a fast food joint. I'm not sure why expectations are so high for a $7 meal? You order at the counter, for goodness sake. I usually opt for the taco platter which comes with two tacos, a side of beans, a side of red rice, and a big handful of chips and salsa. The price is very fair for the amount of food. I'll admit it: this is by NO MEANS an authentic Mexican experience. That said, it's damn tasty and it fills you up. The employees can be a little curt but they are just trying to move through the very long lunch line as quickly as possible. My only complaint is that there is not always room to sit. I usually end up ordering takeout because the place is overflowing with business casual groups of co-workers out on break. The tables are not the cleanest during prime dining hours either. Still, I love to grab lunch here on my way home from my internship. Cheap. Quick. Yummy! Always hits the spot.

I spent all night vomiting after eating the shrimp fajita. My kids ate there as well, with no problems, so it was apparently bad shrimp. I would not chance it ever again, however. It was a hellish night. I started getting sick about 2 hours after eating there.

The fish tacos and taquitos are my favorite! This restaurant has the best fish tacos in the area. The salsa here is awesome too. I used to eat here at least 2 times a week!

Fast casual mexican joint. Order at the counter and grab your food. Plenty of seating inside and a few spots outside. Best bets are the burritos, tacos, and enchiladas. You get chips with your meal; the salsa is pretty good but make sure to ask for an extra cup of salsa.

This place has awesome Mexican food, and very quick service! The employees are nice and the establishment is pretty clean from what I saw. I've had my share of Mexican food around the country and this place is up there with them! If your ever passing the Gateway shopping center definitely stop in!

It's fast(ish) food style Mexican - and you can get a decent taco platter for $6.99 ($7.99 if you want shrimp or fish). I opted for 1 pork & 1 carne asada. Both were good - but the asada had lots of onion on top - next time I will know to get it on the side. Rice, beans & chips. Quick service, big portions, no issues. Gets CROWDED during the weekday lunch rush.

We ordered takeout from here today, I had a Very Veggie Taco and a Shrimp Taco - both were awesome!

This is reasonably good "Americanized" Mexican or Tex-Mex food with lousy service. If you want authentic Mexican or good service, look elsewhere: Baja Fresh and Qdoba come to mind.

    (1)
  • Alison S.

For Pennsylvania this is reasonable, but not great, Mexican. Their cilantro-garlic salad dressing is exceptional; tacos are tasty and fresh. It's nothing spectacular but we have gone back, partly out of convenience, and would eat there again.

Mesa is great. This is our default take-out place. I always get the pork enchiladas - they are the best. Also they have great guacamole and salsa. I love their Mexican tacos too. Actually, it's all really good, I could sit here and list their whole menu, HAHA... the best thing is it's affordable, and fresh. Personally I like Mesa better than Baja Fresh, Chipolte, Qudoba, and Moes. :-D

  • Paul D.

Love this place! I get the Tres Tacos with one of each option: chicken, pork and steak. Comes with limes to spritz them and chips with salsa and cheese. Soooo good!

This place is like Chipotle. Overpriced, under seasoned, americanized mexican food.

Music should be background ambiance...not annoyingly loud! Now that I got that off my chest, I'll continue with the complaints, then get on to what is ok about this place. What is bad: 1. Annoying loud music. We want to be able to talk to each other! Remember that not everyone enjoys your music selections! 2. Chairs being dragged across the floor when cleaning tables adds to the noise. Please try picking them up to move them, or put rubber discs on the bottoms of the legs. 3. When it's 36 degrees outside, we aren't hoping that you have the overhead fans blowing down on our tables! 4. Every table wobbles, and center tables in the back are placed so that people can't get around them when people are seated at them. 5. Please come up with a better way to serve the burritos. They are messy, and need to be cut with a knife. Putting it on a piece of paper, over a plastic plate, is not good. A paper plate would be better than putting paper under the food! What is the point? The good: 1. Friendly service, although they make you feel rushed 2. The roasted salsa is amazing 3. Good guacamole 4. If you aren't from New Mexico or Colorado, you would think that the food is very good. Otherwise, it's just good for Pennsylvania.

I get chips and guac everytime I go. The service is great. The ONLY way Mesa could be better is if they served margaritas!

  • Molly F.

Come on this place is below average and that is complimenting it. Bland mexican food. I kept trying to make it work or find something I really enjoyed and the only thing I would eat if I HAD to go back there, would be there nachos. Tacos are terrible, dry tortilla, chewy meat, ugh bad bad! Burritos are nothing but a lot of cheese. I had taquitos there and they were the worst. they were completely dry and flavorless.

Ok more beans and rice than chicken on my chicken burrito :(

I was somewhat "forced" to go here for lunch yesterday because my usual stop, Dixie Picnic, was closed for a family event. I ordered the Fajita Burrito with no beans and my better half ordered the enchilada platter. The Burrito was just darn boring. I probably should have ordered it with sour cream or guac, but these cost extra. The burritos come with chips and salsa. The word parsimonious comes to mind in reference to the portion of salsa offered. The container they give you is so small you have to break up the chips. That said, the salsa is fresh and delicious which is probably why they are so stingy with it. I agree with other reviewers that Qdoba or Chipotle are much better choices but alas none of those fine establishments reside in Malvern. I disagree with one reviewer who said the service was bad. The gentleman that waited on us yesterday was super sweet.

  • Frances R.

Meh. Nothing impressive. It's mediocre Tex-Mex at best. If you want the real deal, venture into Norristown. I know that might scare some of you, but the food is authentic and full of flavor across the bridge. Mesa Fresh is just a wannabe Baja Fresh, but not well executed.

    (2)
  • Alicia O.

I wasn't sure if this place was a chain or not. Turns out, it's a small chain--only three locations around the area. It was okay, but I was hoping for something different compared to Baja Fresh, Qdoba, Chipotle, etc. Unfortunately, the food tastes EXACTLY like Baja Fresh. Their tacos were exactly the same as were the rice and beans. I guess there aren't too many ways to jazz up rice and beans, so I'll forgive them for that. However, I tried their guacamole and it was the same as Baja Fresh guacamole. The only difference is their salsa, which was watered down and doesn't have much flavor. I don't know. I'll probably go again because it's the closest place for Mexican food and it's a step up from Taco Bell, but still it was kind of disappointing.

Enjoyed a late lunch here on Saturday. Chicken burritos were fully stuffed with very fresh ingredients. Chips & salsa came with meal. Very pleasant lady greeted us, answered questions about the menu, took our order & delivered food to our table in the adjoining dining area. We will be back.

Good lunch spot! Mesa Fresh had good variety on the menu to choose from and portion sizes are generous. We went here before the lunch rush but our food still took pretty long to come out.

my go-to lunch spot. food is fresh and quick. i think all the prices are about $1 too high and they are very random in giving you chips. i normally order fish tacos or the veggie quesadilla (love this filled with fresh veggies including zucchini, squash and peppers) and it's always a surprise if i am going to get tortilla chips on the side. the salsa i wish had a bit more of a kick to it but its fresh so it's fine. next to the soda bar is onions, pickled jalapenos, lemons and cilantro - this is a nice touch. the staff is also very friendly and the refrigerator case filled with the charge for extras are all good, i enjoy the habanero salsa a lot, it def has a kick!

We go here for lunch from time to time. It is always a great experience. The service is generally very quick and the food is great. There are always people in here, but it is never too crowded. It is always possible to find a seat. The parking in the lot is really annoying, as it is a busy shopping center. We have found that if you park out back of the shopping center, there are tunnels that let you walk through to the front, avoiding a mess. This also avoids the problem of having to wait at the light when you leave which can otherwise cause you to sit for quite a while. I generally go with the smothered burrito, which is enourmous. I usually can't finish. There nachos are average, and I hear the tacos are excellent. Most of the meals come with some homemade chips (same chips that are used in the nachos of course) which are also not bad. They have great guacamole, but getting extra can get kind of expensive. If you like mexican, you won't be disappointed with this choice.

OK. About 2 years ago this place had a fire which closed them down of a little bit. Prior to this, I would go there probably 2 times a week. I would order either a couple tacos (which are still good) or the Mexico City burrito. And I would get them wet (haha....get your mind out of the gutters) which is with their ancho chili sauce, sour cream and fresh melted shredded cheese. Now, prior to the fire, this burrito was bangin. But, after the fire, for some strange reason they changed things up with the cheese. Instead of putting real shredded cheddar on it and broiling it real fast, they switched to a horrible cheese sauce. Bleeeech. I mean, really, who uses a cheese sauce? This is supposed to be authentic mexican. I don't see them using whiz in Mexico. So why, oh why do you use it? C'mon Mesa, get with the program. That, and now they charge you for a little salsa on the side. They used to have a bunch of salsa's layed out (like Baja Fresh) where you could get whatcha want. Now, you gotta pay a little extra for it. Bad move IMO. So, there you have it. This would be a 4 star joint but they betrayed me and switched to an inferior cheese product in an effort I suppose to save a little time. Tacos are still great, and their nachos are excellent. Bring back the real cheese on my burrito and the salsa bar and I'll be a happy camper again.

Love their chicken fajitas, love their chicken tostada (taco) salad, and love their shrimp tacos. When you call ahead for take out, they never say it'll be ready in more than ten minutes! You can't beat that for fresh, non fast food!

very limited quantity, not great taste, moreover they sell salsa's for additional price...baha fresh, chipotle,Qdoba are 100 times better than mesa fresh...I would never eat here again

In a way Mesa Fresh is much like Qudoba. I tend to side with Mesa in the head to head showdown however. Mesa has fresh Mexican at a very attractive price. Every once in awhile I come here and stuff my face for under ten dollars and always leave happy. Try the nachos they reign supreme.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
