Upon our most recent trip to the Main Line, my fiancé and I stopped by Great Harvest twice. The bread is one thing- we tried the cinnamon pull-apart this time and are now officially addicted- but the service is another. We spoke at length both times with a woman who I think is the owner, and she was stunningly sweet. When we came in on our way back to Massachusetts to stock up, she loaded up a bag with free samples of our favorite bread for us to snack on along the way. The bread speaks for itself, but the wonderful experience that we had amplifies the loyalty that I feel toward Great Harvest. Seriously- if you're in the area, just go and pick up a loaf and maybe start up a conversation while you're there.

I love the cinnamon raisin walnut and pesto Parmesan. One satisfies my sweet tooth and the other my cravings for a savory fix. Both are delicious. The scones are great as well. Don't come here starving or you will buy everything in sight.

Great Harvest is a delicious bakery/cafe with a great philosophy: if you give your customers giant bread samples, they will still buy your food. Yes, it is entirely possible to walk away totally full without buying anything. But why would you do that? You'd be missing out on their fabulous baked goods (the apple cinnamon bread and the blackberry cream cheese scones are to die for) and tasty sandwiches. (Their soup is not made in house- skip it.) Great Harvest specializes in soft and sweet breads, so if you're looking for a crunchy baguette or crusty olive bread, you'll have to look elsewhere. But what they do, they do extremely well. Note: They only accept credit cards if you buy more than $5 of goods. Like you needed an excuse to get more scones.

I fell into this place over the weekend as we just drove around looking for someplace nice to eat with some local flavor. My mom and I were on the way to a hotel from the airport and we were driving through Wayne and this place looked appealing. I must say that the cute red head behind the counter was very helpful, pleasant and welcoming. Since we had never been here before we were a little lost. The cool thing they do here is offer everyone a sample of whatever breads they have on the bread board. Yummy! I tried a panini that was very tasty - it was turkey and ham with cheese and some spread. We had a couple of cookies and some coffee, too. Everything was really good. My one comment is I guess the place is not really designed to be an eat-in as there is literally one table and two chairs inside. Luckily we beat the lunch rush so we got to sit down and eat at the table. There was a good crowd coming through as the noon hour hit so i guess everyone that knows gets it to go! Tasty fresh ingredients and friendly service at a reasonable price. Can't ask for more.... except a place to sit and eat it :)

One of my favorite bakeries! I think they are part of a larger chain (I only know this because I used to go to the Colorado to Great Harvests in Colorado.) Very fresh and tasty scones, muffins, cookies, granola, etc. They do sandwiches too. My only negative is that there should be more "healthy" options. It's very easy to load up on calories here.

Okay, I love bread so this will be a critical review. I must say that in general, I actually like Panera's 3-seed demi loaf. Great Harvest Bread Co has the similar one but has more seeds. It's called something of a mult-grain/seed bread with all sorts of grains and seeds. I love it but it's only baked on Fridays for some reason. I guess they rotate their breads each day for variety. Unfortunately, not everyone can stop by during the week to pick up their favorite bread. The big plus is that there are samples that you can try out before purchasing a loaf. Also, price wise is a bit high but to be expected with all the ingredients. Expect the unexpected in terms of fluffy ratio to grain/seed density. It's amazing how it's done since no bread machine can replicate this recipe.

My wife and I recently stopped by to reminisce -- we went to college down the road from here and always used to stop in for bread samples (we were too poor to buy loaves) back then. But this time we made up for it and brought a few giant loaves back home with us! Highly recommend the cinnamon swirl bread and the pesto parmesan bread!

One the perks of living in Wayne is having Great Harvest here. The breads and baked goods are great. I can't think of one of their breads I don't like-but I can think of two that deserve a mention here. The pumpkin-swirl and the apple crumb - both topped with a sweet covering- are awesome breads for french toast!. Who needs syrup! When you pay $4 at the supermarket, an extra $1 for a really great product doesn't seem too much to pay. Sadly, I recently received an email from them saying the current owners are looking to get out of the business in the near future. As this is a franchise operation, I'm not sure if they will sell to another local or not. I hope so. I'd miss the place if it closed.

I love Harvest Bread. The samples are a nice treat and the staff are all friendly and eager to help you. They will happily pull out their binder of nutritional information to let you know a foods ingredients or nutritional value. The unfortunate thing with Harvest is that it does not have seating, so if you decide to nosh on one of there roughly 10 paninis, you'll have to take it to go.

If for nothing else, walk in here for the ridiculously generous oversized samples of fresh bread. From chocolate chocolate chip to apple (great for french toast) to pesto parmesean, any bread you get will be the highlight of your meal. Sure it's kinda pricey - but it's totally worth it... especially since you'll probably eat a loaf's worth of samples while you're there. Extra bonus.... they sell & brew Peet's coffee!!!! As a recently displaced San Franciscan, this is HUGE!

Great bread. Lots of selection. I got their pesto herb bread and it was delicious and they have Bobbies hummus.

Unbelievable experience. I have to say I was taken back by the customer service of Great Harvest, and the obnoxious attitude of the woman who I later found out was the owner of the store. I went in and placed an order for two loaves of bread, to be picked up the next day at 7 am. The girl that took my order assured me my loaves would be the first ones out and ready to go. The next morning I went to pick up my bread, and found out the bread had not been freshly baked that morning. I was not given a discount on the day-old bread, so after leaving I called the store and asked to speak to the manager/owner about the issue. The owner of the store got on the phone and began, in the RUDEST manner, to explain how long the bread making process is, that they would never guarantee my bread to be ready at 7.... What bakery sells DAY OLD BREAD to customers FULL PRICE and doesn't even tell them. The way this woman spoke to me was outrageous and inexcusable, what happened to the customer is always right? I was absolutely BLOWN AWAY at this woman's attitude, that a bakery would sell day old bread...thinking that it's okay to do so without even TELLING ME, and then she continued to tell me to take my business else where when I returned the loaves that day. So, for those of you who love getting bread loaves from Great Harvest, who knows if you are getting day-old, two-day old bread for the same price as FRESH BAKED!!

Review of plain old Farmhouse White Bread: None better, as good as it gets, best you'll ever find with fresh bread. And I'm talking in comparison to the loaves you can get from the established, traditional old-line Italian bakeries in the Philly area. If you've never tasted this plain white bread, you don't really know what it's like, it has a unique taste, texture, density and fell when chew it and you eat it. And if you don't believe this, do a simple, unbiased taste test, bring some into your office the next time it's 'bring donuts to the office day', everyone will rave about it. Sample comments: "I've never had bread this good", "I didn't know bread could taste this good", and "Can you bring it again next time". Review of the other flavors/favorites among many: S'more bread: always excellent. Pepperoni bread: excellent. Apple Crumb, Savvannah Pecan Swirl: Old standards. Need to try: Blueberry Pie Bread.

I liked this place a lot more before I found out they have a location in a mall in Alaska. Still, if the man behind the counter was telling the truth, their honey whole wheat bread consists of five ingredients--flour, water, salt, honey, and yeast--and is incredibly tasty. The Tuscan chicken sandwich was entirely eatable, too, in spite of the wilted lettuce and complete lack of red onion promised by the menu board. And $7 for what essentially amounts to fast food is a bit steep. At the end of the day, ff the place were independently owned and churned out bread this good, I would be amazed. But because it's dripping with that unmistakable franchise feeling, I'm less impressed.

I had NOOOO idea that GHB was a (freedom) franchise! I thought they were only in little ol' VA. Appuurantely not! I have to say, the one in Alexandria, VA IS better though. Sorry folks! I got the pumpkin muffin and it was quite dry and tasteless. That's THE first time I've had something I wasn't thrilled about from GHB.

Happened upon this little place on a stroll through the town, and happy we did! The smells eminating from here are just delicious, there is nothing quite like the smell of freshly backed bread and treats! We tried the cinnamon twist pastry, it was good - crunch on the outside and a bit flakey. I actually preferred the regular cinnamon bread they had instead, it was a bit less sweet and actually had more cinnamon flavor. I loved that they gave you a free piece of bread, and that they had delicious honey butter and homemade butter out that you could put on the bread... great idea, all homemade and very delicious!

Sadly, Great Harvest Bread in Wayne has closed. Their sister store in Glen Mills closed this summer. Closest Great Harvest is now in Bucks County.
