We tried Avenue Kitchen in Villanova on a Friday night - like others have noted the décor is fun - open space, white brick, high ceilings with an industrial feel. When we arrived there was no one in the lobby, but the hostess waited to greet us - apparently she was distracted with something on her computer screen. We told her we had a reservation (made on OpenTable) but this fact didn't elicit the normal reservation response - you know the one where the hostess acknowledges the reservation and then says something like - "Mr. Smith party of 2 for 8 - right this way - your table is waiting" - instead the hostess pointed to the dining area and then tried to follow us in - I'm pretty sure that's completely backward. After we rearranged ourselves so we were following the hostess into the restaurant she took us to the worst table in the restaurant - the one in the middle of the floor so your entire meal involves moving your chair for the wait staff and having people bump into your table as they head to the restroom or sit down at their table. I'm fine with sitting at "that table" if there are no other tables available - but when we entered the restaurant there were 3 booths open - 2 set for 2 and 1 set for 6 - clearly we didn't need to sit in the middle lane. When we asked to be seated at one of the booths the hostess said that they were for folks with reservations. That obviously confused me since I sort of assumed my reservation from OpenTable was a reservation - guess not. Our waitress was friendly - and explained that Avenue Kitchen was dedicated to simple dishes done in unique way. She also told us that the restaurant was running a competition with the wait staff - the first wait staff person to provide a "perfect check" would get a free meal. I'm not sure this "perfect check" thing was a real thing or not - but I'm always willing to help my wait person out - so we proceeded to order above and beyond the "perfect check" requirements. Drinks My date tried the Ruby Red Cosmo - we both found it to be way too sweet - a Cosmo is a vodka drink - it should have a hint of vodka - maybe it was the Menage A Trois Vodka (not sure what flavor they are using) - but I'd say pass unless you like a really sweet Cosmo. The beer selection was minimal - Avenue Kitchen is more about wine - I tried the Sam Smith's Organic Lager - it was good - but hardly worth the $9 price. For our appetizer we tried Sweet Pea & Parmesan Arancini - which was very good. I opted to go with the soup of day to start - Tomato Bisque - great flavor with a little spice kick to it- the only downside was that it was served at just a little above room temperature - I was sort of looking forward to a hot cup of soup since it was 20 degrees outside My date tried the Spinach Salad - very good. For my entrée I selected the Short Rib with the forest mushroom risotto, baby root vegetables. The short rib was very good, tender and cooked to perfection. My only complaint here was that the risotto and baby root vegetables were only at room temperature - it seemed like the risotto and vegetables sat around in the kitchen for a while and then the Short Rib was tossed on top once it was done. My date decide to try the Pan Roasted Wild Salmon with the lentils and bacon. She really enjoyed the salmon - although when she ordered it the waitress asked how she wanted it done - no idea what that was about. For fun we also ordered the Mac and Cheese - this was good but a bit too busy for my taste - 3 cheeses - waitress didn't say what kind - onions, some unknown spice - not the classic mac and cheese that I remember. For dessert we selected the Molten Fudge Cake - the cake was very dry - lucky for us we added a scoop of ice cream so we were able to eat the cake without choking. I'd suggest they add whipped cream since there was no way we would have eaten the cake without the ice cream. I don't think we'll head back to Avenue Kitchen any time soon - and if we do go back I think we'll skip the $150.00 full dinner for two and just go for the sandwiches- they looked pretty good.

I thought my first time dining here a few weeks ago warranted me coming back to try another meal, but I was deeply disappointed and disturbed. The meal was fine, until the end when I noticed a MOUSE running across the restaurant floor. A live mouse ran across the floor in the booths in the back, right near where I was sitting. When my mother alerted our server, he said that he knew that this problem existed and said the manager was aware as well. When my mother approached the manager about the mouse, he said he knew it was there and we were actually the second group of the night to spot it. He said it was because of the construction going on in all the buildings adjacent. Needless to say, he was smug and his attitude definitely did not assure us that he would be doing anything about it. He made no apologies whatsoever. We will not be returning!

Another disappointment. We were so hoping that this restaurant would be an asset to the area! Expensive. It is basically like a bar with bar food that has Kitchen in the name. You walk in, it looks nice but it is very loud. You think you would try it; when the menu comes it is the end of the dream. The menu is bar like and lacks intent. For example the make your own salad concept put anything you'd like together shows a definite lack of focus for something that will cost to be about 20 bucks. The appetizer menu is a desert. Example: potato chips with dip! That's like college food on a day when you scrape your pennies! Other choices pizza and burgers, sandwiches. We ordered a hummus. it came with what looked like deep fired pita way over salted. We wish that a tenth of the money that was spent in the decorum had been spent on a great chef! I had a crab cake sandwich and my friend chose the salmon. we thought that all three dishes lacked purpose. The staff was pleasant but lacked knowledge. I was asked to put my fork and knife on the hard table surface by the waiter when he came around to take the plates. I refused for obvious hygiene reasons. When my entree came there was no silverware until I had to ask... Pros: the wine is well priced. We are still looking for a California nouvelle cafe in the area.

Went here over the weekend - unsure what to expect. The owner also has another well-known restaurant in the area that serves calorie conscious meals and tries to include local ingredients...that I'm not a huge fan of. Anyway, so I heard this place was worth a try. The decor: Beautiful, simple and clean and reminds me of someplace you would find in NYC. Service was great, staff was friendly and super helpful. Food...subpar. Had 2 appetizers, the short rib empanadas - decent, and the chips and dip - it was chips and dip, not much to say about it. While flavorful, all 3 entree's were overcooked. Flank steak was very well done but at least it had a sauce that helped with that. Salmon was very dry and over cooked, had no sauce. Scallops - same theme over cooked. This place is also expensive I feel. For all over cooked food all of our entrees were in the $22-26 range. Maybe the sandwiches are better?

We've been coming to the Avenue Kitchen since it opened - The food, service, and ambience combine to make this a wonderful dining experience. The food is truly tasty - we love the White Pizza appetizer, which is delicious, and the humus starter, which is not just decorative with it's side of feta and olives but very flavorful. The full meals are equally good, but we generally prefer several of the starters and a split of the Cesar Salad with chicken. Special kudos to Paul - a fantastic server!! The vibe is casually upscale, energetic but NOT noisy in anyway. The host makes the guests feel that this is their place - and with food, service, and attention like that it certainly will be.

I am stuck between meh and a-ok . Was really hoping we would love this place since we take our two area college students out to dinner often. We had a reservation, and arrived 10 min late(we called tho) and were greeted by 3 young ladies, the first of the group was chomping on gum and had a bit of an attitude-not the way a restaurant wants to present itself, just my opinion but your new so be nice! We asked to be moved and were told the booths were booked for reservations(we had one ) saw another group get moved tho. Now when i ask for a table at any other restaurant I am told they will try, but no guarantee , ok so how come this place can gaurantee an table type? Not buying it. was rude, there were to booths open for more than 15mn after we asked to be moved from the wobbly high top table in the bar. Food was ok, my fish was cooked well, but butternut broth was a bit flavorless, odd since everything was a hair to salty. Dessert was creme brûlée, don't bother-while the crust was nice the custard was to thinly spread out in the dish and as a result was warm and not satisfying. It should be served in a deeper dish so the custard stays cold while the top is hot and cracks with your spoon. Nice space though, bar area is the whole back of the restaurant, but space seems a bit under-utilized. Lots of staff, our server was nice, but not remarkable.

It is a must for breakfast, and they open at 7am. The quality of the food is fantastic, the ingredients are fresh and the food is always hot. We have also been for drinks in the bar, which is chic, large and offers a full service bar. You can have dinner there or at the tables and booths. The dinner menu offers variety and is always good.

Having a quaint dinner for four at Avenue Kitchen and our first impression is less than desirable. Service is slow and unattentive...Brought a wine bottle to our table but did not pour it for us. The experience will be formally defined once the food arrives...to be continued...

Felt like I was in the twilight zone ... Walked in at 8:45 am to have breakfast, greeted by a man in a chef coat who was leaving as I entered...only two people seated in the entire place no employees in sight..no one at hostess station, no one behind bar, no one in kitchen....a bunch of dirty dishes on the banquet table by the entrance. I decided to use the restroom...trash overflowing onto the floor, one sink not working. Came out to a still empty resraurant...as I got in my car to leave I saw the previously mentioned gentleman sitting in his car in the parking lot with the door open having a smoke...Won't be back..

First time eating here and loved every part of it. They serve brunch 7 days a week (11-3pm) which is a huge plus for a college student like myself. Another great aspect was that they serve mimosa's and bloody Mary's as a quartino to share. The quartino ends up being 4 glasses and only costs a total of 15$ LOVED that

If I was a fifteen-year-old girl in my first strapless going to my first prom and worried that I'd have to go to second base with the guy who ate paste in art class, then I'm sure I'd be thrilled to go to a Main Line restaurant like Avenue Kitchen. It has that total suburban mall-cut-above-Applebee's vibe about it with a varnished white-on-white finish (photo: bit.ly/11o0J2l ). It also has the menu to match (photo: bit.ly/1AcjncR ). I mean I don't think I've ever seen mozzarella listed on an index card on a cheese plate before (photo: bit.ly/1Aciml4 ). I can see why my local colleagues took us there for dinner. It's in the same building as their office, and we didn't have a car. Yep, made sense to me, so we made do with the hand dealt to us. It's just that I wished more than the deuces were wild. Perhaps due somewhat to my forlorn culinary state of mind but more likely due to the fact that I was more focused on catching up with colleagues I really like, I was not all that discriminating about my dining choices. The aforementioned $14 Cheese Board was ordered for us to share, but I have to admit it was one dull set of dairy choices - a mustard-laced cheddar, a nutty gouda, the oddly placed mozzarella, and the best of the lot, an English soft cheese that actually had some interesting flavor. I went from there right to the $7 Small Caesar Salad that honestly looked like it came right out of a bag from Safeway (photo: bit.ly/11g1haL ). Nothing close to distinctive about the execution but also shame on me for not going for something more edgy like the Farro with arugula and feta. I have to admit the biggest disappointment was the $19 Shrimp Cavatelli, just a most generic pasta option which I thought might be a nice change-of-pace from the standard protein choices they offered. It was a watery pool of cavatelli pasta festooned with prawns - all three of them - and a mild serving of sweet Italian sausage, cherry tomatoes and barely-there asparagus pieces with tarragon merely a whiff of a memory (photo: bit.ly/1EZ0Pww ). It was a soppy mess, and I felt like I already devoured my share of the bread with the cheese board. The $9 Berry Bubbly was not terribly bubbly as you can see from the photo ( bit.ly/1qkfSOn ) - a mix of Framboise and Prosecco with one big raspberry performing double duty as an ice cube. I bet I come back here again with colleagues as it's too convenient not to, so I'll try to remember the scared fifteen-year-old girl that I once was. Or maybe that was a Molly Ringwald movie. FOOD - 2 stars...falls flat on its own as you need good company to make it all tolerable AMBIANCE - 2.5 stars...like I said...shopping mall chic SERVICE - 3.5 stars...attentive enough considering our big party TOTAL - 2 stars...my colleagues deserve better than this as a fine dining option

Worst service I have ever seen. Had to get up to find the waiter and ask where food was. Can only imagine the service if more then 4 tables were occupied. Wrong food brought out. Waiter acted like we were an inconvenience to him. Said they'd make another and all the did was take burger back and scrape off what was not requested. Came back and still had it on. Would never go again. Service bad and food bad

Had an excellent lobster roll, Mediterranean chopped salad and glass of wine here. All were perfect. Excellent service in a lovely upscale setting. Great menu. Comfortable booths. Went again for brunch and split the creme brule waffle (!!!) and the apple stuffed french toast. The waffle was like nothing Ive ever had. They also serve Illy coffee!

I met my traveling West Coast cousins here for lunch today because of its convenient location to route 476. I enjoyed the decor, fresh and white, sleek . The prices were way too high and the choices were limited. My salmon burger was ample buck lacked texture-crispy on outside but mushy on inside. Canned salmon. Not worth $15! I substituted a side salad for the fries. Salad was tasty. My cousins ordered a burger and grilled cheese with rib meat. I'm a local but definitely won't return. Omelettes were $8, plain, with home fries. Anything added to make the omelette an omelette was $2 additional per item. I found that ridiculous. It's basically eggs with potatoes for $8. No way! I guess Main Liners need a chic looking restaurant but not me! Two stars because the prices were inflated. I work too hard to have to spend $50+ for 3 sandwiches!

Great ambiance, with very bland food. Went here for dinner during the week. There was a decent crowd, but no reservation required. The look and feel is very slick, a modern cool feel. The beer list has company names, but not styles listed. For example it might say, "Yards, or Sam Adams, or Victory", but it didn't say what kind of beer from each brand, and the waitress had no clue. The food was very blah. We started with tuna tartar, and it came on some cracker, and all you tasted was the cracker. For dinner we got salmon, mussels, and short rib grilled cheese. All very flavorful items usually, but they were prepared in such a way that it all just tasted bland. For dessert we had a peanut butter cookie, with peanut butter ice cream. All made in house, but all tasted like something you get at the grocery store. Again, just blah. No whip cream, or fudge, just a cookie and ice cream on a plate. And somehow they made peanut butter taste like not much. Perhaps they just ran out of salt on this night? Because nothing brought out these flavors.

Stopped in here for dinner with a friend last night, on a recommendation from one of her coworkers. The décor was beautiful, dark wood floors and clean white walls, with one of the comfiest booths I've ever sat in. Food was just ok. I ordered the "house made" ricotta gnocchi and expected that delightfully light texture of handmade pasta; but, it was tougher than the stuff I make at home, with an oily sauce that needed some flavor. Friend had a Caesar salad that tasted pretty meh. Drinks were pretty expensive - cocktails all $11=$14 dollars (nope!) and my bottle of cider was $9, yow. Although she left my empty plate on the table for awhile, our server cleared my drink when there was still around 1 1/2 inches in the bottom, and I wanted to shout after her, "Hey, that's like $2 of cider left!" For a new restaurant, it was really crowded, and I can only think this is because of the convenient location (just off Lancaster Ave. in Villanova) that must be on a lot of peoples' commutes home. For the same price point, you can get much better food elsewhere.

Really enjoyed brunch/lunch here today on my first visit. Our server promptly filled out drink orders. I got a hot tea and was presented with a tea chest for my selection. My clay tea pot was refilled with hot water and fresh tea bag. My wife ordered from the brunch menu and ordered the eggs Benedict. A very large portion arrived with roasted potato chunks and two eggs on top of Canadian bacon on grilled English muffins. Her only complaint was that the yolks in the poached eggs were fully cooked. Her coffee was refilled without asking. I had the Bahn mi which was a different take on the usual sandwich. It was made with a very flavorful sox hour braised pork with the usual toppings such as pickled carrot, daikon, cilantro and cucumber. It also had a siracha cream which adds a little zing. The placed was full and also had a wedding shower in a separate room but our food was served quickly. Will be back to try some of the other tempting items on the menu.

This is my second time eating here, the review is specifically on the food (see previous review for overall restaurant and staff) Braised short rib empanada: a slightly sweet and moist meat inside of a flaky and almost buttery empanada shell. It sits ontop of a spicey sauce so you can increase the heat as you like, but the meat is so flavorful, I'm not sure why you would ruin this dish. When we sat down, we asked the waitress what she thought the best appetizer was, this was the best...I disagree; it's good. Really good, but if you sample the menu, there's even better! Cheese board: this is the largest portion I've ever seen served in a restaurant. I have to preface this with saying earlier in the day I had lunch at a certain Latin chef's Philadelphia "Trading Company" where the cheese plate consisted of a passed tray sized portion of toothpick chunks of cheese. Not at AK! The slate board has full 1.5-2oz portions of perfect temperature chef's selection. This night is was a "medium" blue (not too pungent), a monchego, and a baseball size burrata. Accompanied with a small pot of honey and mustard as well as some apple slices and an apricot fruit compote. This dish is large enough for 4+ people to share, it could be half you meal...seriously, I don't know how they're not loosing money on this dish! Grilled gulf coast shrimp: deep charcoal undertones with just a hint of heat from jalapenos. I'm not sure what I liked more, the shrimp, or the charred corn kernals underneath! Slow braised pork taco: this is the best appetizer on the menu. Little mini taco's (think "Mexican Sliders") with a not too sweet BBQ like pork flavor, already topped with guach and salsa, with a line of a spicey sauce down the plate to adjust your own heat. My only complaint was there was only three, I wanted more they were so good! Short Rib Cheesesteak: this is huge. A rich and hearty meat flavor with a creamy cheese sauce on a nice and hearty roll. Definatley a gourmet version, and no suprises, it just tastes good. Comes with their soon to be famous fries... Fries: oh the fries! These were some of the best I've ever had. I was skeptical since the rage now is duck-fat fried or at least sweet potatoe, so I was a little disappointed when they came out and just looked like normal french fries. But the taste! They moist with just a hint of a starch taste on the inside with a crisp and seasoned outer crust. No soggy or burnt strays, each one was, well, perfect. I asked how they got something so often messed up to come out so simple and perfect, and was shocked at how much went into it. WIthout revealing their secret, they cooked, blanched, chilled, tossed in a coating, chilled, cooked again. Alot of effort for ALOT of flavor. Order them as a side for the table as you would a baked potatoe. Scallops: I'm rarely a seafood fan but these were again recommended by our waitress. Perfectly seasoned with a crusty sear on the top and bottom, accented with a bright and almost creamly like corn "salsa" and braised onions. Not the "light" fish option you might be used to on most menus, it's a very hearty and filling dish. I have to admit that at this point, I was only able to finish two of the four scallops as the portions here (on all the dishes) are so much larger than I'm used to, but with a meal that so far exceeded our expectations, had to at least sample dessert... Dessert comes out on a dessert tray and a quick explanation from the waitress has you saying "I can't decide, what's your favorite" The chocolate glazed donut is huge. It's covered in a thick and cloudy glaze, served with the donut still warm. Goes perfect with an after dinner coffee, or if you're as full as me at this point, take 1/2 home for the next morning! The pop-tart was a suprise. Rectangular and glazed with fruity berry-jam center, it was big enough to share, but my chubby co-diner had reached his limites of sharing by this point and hogged the entire thing to himself. I can't comment on what it tasted like, so I'll just repeat what he said "DAMN! How did they make a homemade pop-tart taste even better than the real thing...no, you can't have some, get your own!" The cupcake was massive with a semi-dense icing and a caramel center. Very rich, this is gonna be the popular kids choice I can tell. The fruit tart looked good, but honestly I couldn't take another bite of anything so that will have to wait till next time. The wine selections (stuck with Italian reds) by the glass are excellent and starting at $7 a pour, are probably the best value here after that cheese plate.

We visited avenue kitchen for lunch for the first time. The food was ordinary at best. The salads were not very inspired and we found them lacking (not much to them and expensive) Not much thought put into the food. Extremely noisy room. We were hoping for a great local hang out, a place to have dinner or a drink. Expensive for what you get. We would not go back :-(

They tried making the place look cool but it came off cold and noisy. I guess they are going for a very sleek look. The bar is located in the back of the restaurant but we were dining so we never went to the bar. It was a very mixed crowd from couples to families with young children. We started off with the special, Black and Blue, filet tips with blue cheese..where were the chunks of blue cheese? I counted three very small pieces of the cheese and the presentation was fair. The meat had gristle and was really inedible. Then onto the salmon burger which was cold and had no taste but the side salad was delightful. The others diners at the table had the fish tacos(2) which he said was good and the salmon entree which was on the dry side. The fries were very tasty and crisp. At the end of the meal the waiter asked us if we wanted coffee which was very good but we had to ask if we could see the dessert tray. The two good points was they did not hurry our meal, coffe and the fries. But does make a restaurant?

Went out for an impromptu girls night to Avenue Kitchen. Was very impressed by the beautiful, soothing interior design - upscale yet still casual enough not to feel stodgy and overly "mainline" (I'm from Berwyn and live in Bryn Mawr, I can say that.) Anyway, service was excellent, I'm giving 4 stars because they did mess up my girlfriend's order after she specifically told them about her dairy allergy - but they were very accommodating about it. We had the baked goat cheese - warm, savory, and delicious, served with toasted/buttered garlic bread. Also ordered the hummus platter app, very tasty as well. I ordered the blackened fish tacos which were perfect - on the spicy side but very fresh and perfect with the Durango sauv blanc. Overall thumbs up!

Avenue Kitchen brings contemporary dining to the old school Main Line and doesn't disappoint. The restaurant itself is extremely well put together. The decor is tasteful and modern yet approachable. The attention to detail is obvious. The menu was priced perfectly - not cheap, but not unreasonably expensive like many other Main Line restaurants. We shared the Baby Arugula and Endive Salad to start - very good. The big piece of crispy goat cheese was unexpected and fun. I went for a burger - doesn't get more "uncomplicated" and "american" than that. It was cooked exactly like I asked and it was juicy and flavorful. All of the sandwiches come with fries and they are good - crisp and crunchy on the outside, soft in the middle, and seasoned well. My partner had the Achiote Marinated Grilled Chicken Sandwich and it was also very good. We took the vanilla caramel cupcake to go. Haven't tried it yet but it is calling my name... I look forward to when they start lunch service, and hopefully one day a happy hour featuring some cool drinks and apps.

I have eaten lunch at Avenue Kitchen a couple times. The ambiance is very nice. The waitstaff are great. The menu is good, but there have been a couple times where it has been more style than substance. During my first visit, I went with several coworkers to celebrate a birthday. We got the goat cheese appetizer. It is very nicely presented, but there wasn't much more to it than warm goat cheese and bread. I had the fish tacos which were fine. During my second visit, I took someone out for a business lunch. I had the summer caprese salad. It was essentially a few chunks of chopped tomato and mozzarella with julienned basil and a balsamic reduction. It was artfully presented, but tiny. For $10, I would like a salad that at least satiates me for a while. I asked for a side of bread to provide some added sustenance, and the waiter informed me bread was extra. Avenue Kitchen is not bad. The food is nice, the people that work there are good, and the atmosphere is very trendy. However, I do not feel ready to pay for the ambiance over the food.

Despite mixed reviews decided to try this place for a Black Friday night dinner. It was totally disappointing. My party of 3 was seated at a high top in the bar area despite the fact the restaurant was fairly empty. The server was very friendly and helpful. My father and I decided to try the appetizer special of French onion soup dumplings. The concept was intriguing but the execution was poor. The filling was good but the wonton wrapper was so undercooked and chewy. For dinner we all ordered seafood and the 2 trout entrees were completely overcooked, extremely dry and overly seasoned. My sister ordered the day boat scallops and they were also overcooked, shriveled and rubbery. I addressed these issues with the server and the manager came to our table. He was very nice and apologetic and said he would take care of things. My father and I ordered espresso, his with a sambuca. The espresso was luke warm at best and the sambuca so cheap my father was almost sick from it. The 2 entrees were comped but the bill was still $145 and the undrinkable snifter of sambuca was an unbelievable $11!!! We were all still hungry as we barely ate any of our dinner plates that we went out for sushi afterwards! Needless to say I will not be going back to this place.

We ate at Avenue Kitchen this past Saturday night. The atmosphere is very nice. Unfortunately, the food and service aren't very good at all. Our waitress, although pleasant, seemed to have little training and little common sense. The same is true about others on the wait staff. We started with mussels and tuna tartare. Although neither was bad, each was tasteless. We then shared 3 different salads. Again, nothing special or tasty with any of the salads. Since there were 4 of us sharing everything, we asked for serving spoons to make it easier to serve the salads. Instead of serving spoons, we were provided with teaspoons. Oh well. We then had 2 tasteless undercooked pizzas. We ended with a dessert of something that was described as a chipwich. A real chipwich would have been much better. Although we live 5 minutes away from Avenue Kitchen, I now know why none of our friends eat there and why you can always reserve a table last minute on open table. I am not sure what's so hard to train your staff properly and serve decent food. Unfortunately, the owners at Avenue Kitchen have missed the boat. What A Shame!

We went on Valentine's Day and it was the worst food I have ever had. We have been there before and enjoyed it but this last time was inexcusable. Gnocchi was a bowl of mush with no taste. Filet was over cooked and burnt. Caesar salad dressing had a ton of dry mustard in it. Chef must have had a day off. Worst of all the tuna tar tar was fishy and not fresh at all. Gross

After seeing plenty of good to great reviews of the Avenue Kitchen, my husband and I stopped by for a quick weeknight dinner. At least it should have been quick since the restaurant was by no means at capacity, but it seemed our waitress was never nearby when we needed her. I will say when she was at our table her service was great- she even entertained a last minute switch in my wine choice. All in all, though, I was not impressed. We had the mussels as an appetizer. They were well cooked and we didn't get any grit but the broth lacked a strong flavor. Our entrees were equally disappointing. My husband had the fish tacos. They were quite mushy and missing a crunch factor (slaw, fresh lettuce, something). The piece of fish was a nice size but the lack of seasoning left a lot to be desired. My entree was a simple Avocado BLT. Easy, right? The bread was burnt/way too crispy and the avocado wasn't ripe, giving it a weird taste and texture. It was practically inedible. On top of all of this, both entrees came with fries...they were oddly crunchy and just had an "Off" taste about them. Entirely unimpressive. It didn't help that as the manager/owner figure cleaned the table next to us I felt his cleaner spray hit both me and my food...Not worth even half of what we paid.

Only drawback was the roll wasn't fresh. The avacado lettuce tomato was on great bread, very large and came with really fresh french fries. Aioli on the sandwich was very good so that part of the lunch was above average. The short rib cheesesteak had good insides, but the roll it came on was not fresh, in fact was a little on the stale side. The manager came by and asked how everything was and I said all was very good except for the roll. He offered to adjust the bill, but I didn't think it warranted that, so he gave me 2 chits for a glass of house wine in the future. Very nice of him to do so, and everyone at the restaurant was very friendly and accomadating. It's in the old Mixx space, which was also Maya, so you have plenty of parking and they most all plastic. Would go back again and hope they have better rolls. Manager said they order from a NY bakery, which I don't get, when Sarcones or Conshy bakery are so much closer and have great bread and rolls.

Went in there a few weeks ago, they were still working out the kinks with service and things were a little slow/confused. However, food was really good and prices were not that bad. Going back this evening for round 2 and plan on bringing the kids.

If you haven't been yet, it is a must! It all starts the moment you walk in the door - tall ceilings, beige, cream and white interior with a lot of fabric. However, if decor is not of concern to you, then you will certainly enjoy the food! Breakfast is served daily starting at 7am - you will not leave hungry. The omelette's are good sized, ingredients fresh and always served hot. Dinner is always a treat with lots of choices depending on what you are in the mood for or like. Lastly, the bar, drinks and wine list will meet everyone's need.

Went to Avenue Kitchen for the first time yesterday and it definitely won't be the last!!! Loved the ambience of the restaurant - wish they could send whoever designed the place to my house! Comfy leather and velvet booths, chairs made from recycled light fixtures, white and off white color scheme - heck, I even loved their dishes!!! The food was also excellent - had the grilled cheese with ham, gruyere, pears and dijon and it was really good... It came with fries which were some of the best I've had in a while... Nice and crispy with a nice bit of sea salt. The creme brulee was also very good. Others in my party equally enjoyed the cheesesteak and hamburger, and we also had the freshly fried potato chips and buttermilk ranch dip - good stuff! The service also gets an A+. The blue eyed guy who seated us was very professional and our waitress was very attentive and knowledgeable. Hope they stick around a while - it's not in the best location so restaurants have been moving in and out of there pretty quickly...

Since moving to Wayne 2 years ago from San Fran we have been consistently disapointed by restaurants on the main line. Avenue was an amazing surprise! We did takeout on a Friday night and ordered the cheese plate, tuna tartare, short ribs, and scallops. Finally I felt like i was getting what I paid for. The food was awesome and we can't wait to go back.

Loved the decor of this place. White brick everywhere, very industrial look and feel but also feminine and chic. Big space, with a nice bar and seating area. The food was great, too. The server was very accommodating. My grandmother is gluten-free and dairy-free, and the server talked to the chef to come up with options for her meal. Apps: Bacon wrapped dates stuffed with goat cheese = YUM Tuna Tartar = tasty, good for two people Dinner entree: I got he Avocado BLT on sourdough and it was a really good sandwich. Very simple but everything was fresh and tasty. Crispy fries made differently than I've ever had. A little too rich, but overall good. My grandmother got the black cod and literally licked the plate clean, she loved it so much. Other people ordered the scallops and the gnocchi and both said they were delicious, though I didn't try them. Overall experience was a nice one. No complaints. Will be back!

Gorgeous interior, excellent service, interesting menu. It's a bit pricey, and it seemed like a lot of the locals came here to be "seen", so you might want to dress nicely. I had the mac & cheese (side) and the margarita pizza. Both tasted fresh and delicious. The Avenue cocktail was pretty good - I love prosecco - but I don't think it was worth $14 - I would get something different next time.

Loved this place when it first opened, but last few visits have been mediocre. Was excited when they started serving breakfast, but deep-fried home fries? Gross. Can them french fries and be done with it.

Stopped in for lunch at the bar and had a nice meal. The bartender recommended a glass of wine that went well with my Korean styled tacos. This place is a little adventurous for the Main Line, but nothing crazy.

Move over 333 Belrose (although I love this place too). Move over George's (well, you already did). Move over Glenmorgan (but stay open for business breakfasts and lunches). Here's Avenue Kitchen, the terrific new hot spot for great food, great ambiance, great service - and a great overall dining experience on the Main Line. The menu offers a lengthy variety of everything from small plates to pizzas to sandwiches to entrees (don't miss the Curried Salmon). Best of all, the chef and AK team are really focused on their guests' enjoyment.

First off, the restaurant is beautiful and food is pretty reasonable compared to everything else around. Brunch is amazing and you can get a pretty decent amount of food for $10. It's never very busy whenever I'm there, which I find pretty crazy since the food is incredible. Love this place, definitely a staple restaurant on the main line. Try the goat cheese arugula salad and the Margherita pizza.

Excellent service and ambiance. Would love to go back and try dinner... Had the Avacado BLT sandwich without the bacon ( vegetarian) with french fries... delicious.. had the lemon bar desert which was lovely... We split some appetizers which was the pita with hummus... pita were amazing... looking forward to going back and trying something else on the menu

Interesting atmosphere. High ceilings meant it got loud fairly quickly. The food is way over-hyped. Fries are average, people! Pork taco starter was dry with a flat flavor profile even with the gastrique. As bar picked up, drinks at the table got worse - missing ingredient in one, not iced another. Does not warrant a return trip and it being so lauded is an unfortunate testament to the paltry food scene in the area.

Yes, this new place is as good as it gets. The decor is clean, uncluttered and comfortable...but it's about the food. The menu is diverse, but approachable.everything on it looked yummy. Prices are in line with every other restaurant in the area. We had farm fed angus burgers, empanadas( braised short ribs) that were delicious, and yellowfin tuna on a brioche bun that really was so good. The sea salt fries are killer too. We will be back again and again to try the meatloaf and the scallops! You will not be disappointed at the Avenue....go have some fun!

Not sure why these mainline restaurants think their decor and good service should make up for the awful food. I was excited to try this new addition to Villanova and organized a group of friends to have lunch there. My friend had the onion soup and right from the color of the soup, I knew it was off. The soup had very dark brown color that looked like gravy. The cheese on top wasn't even melted when they served it. The taste was just as off. My other friend and I both had the fish tacos. I honestly don't know why they would put this item on the menu if they have no idea how to cook Mexican food. There were no taste of oregano or cumin and the fish tasted like mashed chicken. The taco shell was a supermarket crunchy variety shell that lacked any sophistication. The pairing with the tacos was fries; excuse me, I know your fries are good but please, tacos and fries are not compatible! Honestly, I had much better at the Cheesecake Factory! I'm so disappointed.

Great service. Good to very good food reasonably priced. Nice wine list, but the wine prices were a bit extreme, even for the Mainline. They've got some good Happy Hour specials at the bar.
