As I scan other reviews, I think people are missing the general point of the Trappe Tavern. It's supposed to be a local pub. It's place you can get out of the house to grab a beer and a burger, maybe meet some friends, catch a game, listen to music, and see everyone you ever went to highschool with. It hits the nail on the head. And the Wednesday and Sunday happy hour isn't bad. Since moving to CA I've come to fully appreciate the TT. I totally miss the cheap Yuengling, because I can't get any Yuengling for any price... And the cover bands aren't just half good, the fact that they exist is awesome. The food is above the classic bar food options, a little overpriced, but still "good." And the patio in the summer is the best one in PA west of Manyunk Brewery. Go for the drink specials, the bands, and that local pub feel.

This is usually one of our favorite places to go to. But, when I decided to take my family there to enjoy the outside seating, no one ever came over to wait on us. We sat there for a half hour after waiting 20 minutes to be seated. We don't mind waiting to be seated, but don't understand why a waiter never came to our table. It wasn't even that busy. We decided to leave and go to Friends Tavern which sat us right away and also waited on us right away. We will probably go back, but think we might of found a new spot to go!

Basic bar, very much a local crowd. I was there on a Friday night. There was a live band, but not really a stage. It was a bit awkward how the band was right next to the bathrooms and the other bars, so you were walking past them all the time. The "beach" area is a bit weird, but is probably nice in warmer months. The food, wasn't terrible, it was basic bar food. I had a grilled cheese sandwich with bacon (cheese was blah with no option to change it). Fries were okay. There was a special for bud light on Friday night, I think $2.50 pints. The service was a bit forgetful. We had to remind the server that we already ordered drinks a couple of times.

I like the Trappe, but it is not for everyone. Its a bit of a dive bar...Dark, lots of locals, not the cleanest in the world...but I'm OK with that...They pack a good crowd on the weekends, have live music, pool tables, and good specials...plus, I am a fan of the burgers and cheesteaks there! Generally this is a happy hour destination, or possibly for lunch...I've never gone there for dinner, but have had a couple of the dinner specials and have been pleased! The 1st floor is the bar area with plenty of booths\tables for dinner, basically one big space...many of the tables are moved when bands play on the stage here...I have seen some bands here, but spend most of my time upstairs with the pool tables and the second bar...there is also another area for diners up here... They also have a lovely outdoor deck which I'm sure is a big hit in the summer weather... Service...I've never had a problem with service, however I can see some people might...this is a bar first, then restaurant...I've had no complaints in my many visits there, but again, I'm generally there for happy hour or to shoot some pool. The servers seem to be local college girls for the most part. They aren't working at Le Bec Fin, they are working at the Trappe Tavern, try to adjust your standards accordingly!

I was a long time patron there. Emphasis on the past tense. The food is slightly above average, but the service sucks. The waitstaff may be acceptable, but the bartenders (especially the cockeyed, bald guy) are surly and discourteous. When they get you a drink they act like they're doing you a favor. "What do you need?" rather than "how can I help you?" is the question du jour at the Trappe. You're much better off spending your money somewhere it's really appreciated.

Service sucks and the food is mediocre. It's only worth going to for the wings & pitchers special on Wednesday nights or silver coin night on Sundays. Prices are average as far as bars go.

The Trappe is where my husband and I go when we want to have a couple drinks and watch the Phillies or Flyers (or even the World Cup), or just hang out with our friends on a Friday night. It's your typical bar...an okay selection of beer, decent food, and a happy hour atmosphere. The inside is dimly lit, but the outside deck during the warmer months is great. I think we actually prefer it then because the college kids (Ursinus College is within walking distance) are all gone for the summer. Alan the bartender is great! Very personable & quick to refill your drinks. The Trappe has drink specials during the Phillies games, and they also have one of the best French onion soups around! I would recommend The Trappe to a friend.

Not gourmet but always consistently good bar fare. Great place for a good and varied menu! When not sure where to go...go to the Trappe! Friendly place to watch a game - Eagles, PSU, Phillies, Flyers.

I liked this place. Food was decent bar type food and reasonably priced. Had a nice hometown feel and an outdoor deck. I only wish they would've had more beer selection as there weren't as many as I expected. Overall a nice place to hang out they even had a band.

Back in the day... From 2003 - 2007, it was great! We even had our wedding reception there. The service is now very slow and the food is decent. The cheesesteaks and onion soup are excellent but the people are rude and again the service is s l o w. Wish it was like it use to be. I live around the corner and only go when the weather is nice and want to sit outside. That is not very often.

If this place was located in Center City, I'd probably give it two stars. But considering that this place is out in the middle of nowhere, it's probably one of your better options for the area. We were out this way to attend a HS basketball game and needed a quick dinner. My husband had "heard ads for this place on sports radio" and wanted to check it out. Upon arriving, we were surprised how packed this place was. Granted, it was the Saturday night before Christmas and the Eagles were playing, so this may have been a fluke, but we saw it as a good omen for our meal there. I had the prime rib sandwich (I want to say it was called a Wranger Jr- slice of prime rib with Cajun spices, bacon and cheese). I was pleasantly surprised with the sandwich- I didn't know what to expect with "sliced prime rib", but it was pretty good. And for $8, it was a fairly priced meal. Fellow Yelpers have complained about service, but we had a good waitress who didn't mind that we sat there for an extra half hour to watch the game (without buying any more food/drinks). I can't say how often I'll be back out this way, but I'll keep this place in mind if I am!

I went in tonight for the first time In a couple years the place was always nice with nice people and good food. I have never been treated so badly anywhere in my life tonight, first the bartender ignored me for 20 mins and the place was so, but what ever I'm out to have a quick drink before the night was over . She finally makes her way over and I place my order for drinks . She brings them over promptly and asks if I have a tab I said "no but you can start me me one if you like !?" I want to pay cash but I will give you a card to hold if that's what you gotta do " then a bar back or bouncer out of left field screams at me " stop being a dick !" Me and my friend look at each other confused . I said what ? Are you talking to me ? He repeats himself " stop being a dick or I'm gonna kick you out !" I said "what are you talking about ? " then he wonders away me and my friend are confused at this point . Long story short I finished my drink asked for the tab and then the bar tender put it on my card anyways ! Kid you not talk about a place that went down hill I have worked in the bar & restaurant industry on both sides for 16 years and never seen anything like it . I will never return and boycott this place for good. Idk what has changed but who ever highers employees to pick fights with customers shouldn't be running a restaurant! Just a side note it's not like we were drunk or something it was my first drink of the day after work and my friend a 50 year old friend of my fathers doesn't drink I bought him a coke .

I want to like this place. I love that they have all you can eat crab legs on Mondays. But that's pretty much where it starts and ends. We've been here many times because it's close and for some reason I seem to forget in between trips, that I don't particularly care for the food. I have never had anything here that has "wow'ed" me. The nachos are godawful with that fake cheese sauce. Rest is just run of the mill bar food, run of the mill being a generous description. I wish they'd revamp this menu or at least the recipes or methodology behind the current menu.

Went here for lunch the other afternoon with friends and they completely just nickel and dime the place. There is a charge for everything, pickles? $0.50 Onions? Another $0.50. No refills, only on there new ice tea machine do they give refills. Our food was average at best, was really disappointed! We used to love coming here, just recently it went downhill.

Seen better days. At one time (early 90s) it was my favorite bar; they had good beer on tap and great wings. Not so anymore, slackers for bartenders, bad food, don't think they keep their beer lines clean...gone downhill.

Friendly local pub and restaurant. Sit upstairs for a brighter less of a bar atmosphere. Day waitresses are great. Love the prime rib sandwiches. They could step up their salad beyond iceberg and veg options. Lose the tacky fake beach outside and make it something like a garden terrace.

We have lived in this area since 1996 and the Trappe has been a mainstay in this area..it is known for good pub food (nothing fancy) and occasionally really good bands. About 10 years ago, they expanded the deck outside to include a "sandy beach area". It's a little strange for the area, but it works! We have gone in the past, ordered sandwiches at the "normal dinner hour", had good service and decent food and been pleased. my review now is based on the experience tonight, based on a "Friday night experience". My friend was playing in the band tonight and so we decided to go out to support her (and also to have a night away from the kids) Upon arrival, we went to the outside bar to place our orders. I asked for (what I thought was) a simple and popular drink these days (an Orange Crush - whipped cream vodka, orange juice and triple sec - everyone else in our party ordered beers). The bartender had to go to the inside bar to make it. This didn't annoy me, but it did make me feel "guilty" for making him leave his post to accommodate me. After 2 rounds, we moved inside to see my friend play. The band was great (love local bands and the keyboardist was my friend - so what can I really say? ;-) ). We got waitress service for our table because we wanted apps as well as drinks. The service was "meh!" Several times we had to flag her down (and it wasn't busy during this time). At one point, she came over to our table to take our drink order and someone said something to her and she just said "excuse me" and left us. After the band started playing (and our friend knew we were there) and we decided to move back outside , it was a much more pleasant experience. We had no table service, but there was a nice breeze, service was quick at the outside bar. So why am I only giving it 3 stars? Velveeta! If you are going to put Velveeta on your potato skins...just don't even put them on the menu!

I've spent more time here now and felt I should upgrade the rating. It's a pub, not a resort restaurant, so just go, relax and enjoy the pub atmosphere.

Would be 4 or 5 if the servers were on the ball, knew the menu and knew when a cocktail was not made to specifications. That said its a nice bar restaurant for a quick bite and the many times I've had the prime rib it's been devine!

My family and I have gone here numerous times. My mother even had her wedding reception on the second floor here. Needless to say, we don't go back anymore. The food is ok, nothing great, but the service is HORRIBLE! Our most last trip, we waited a while for drinks and to place our order. We then waited about 45 minutes for our meal to come, and all we ordered were sandwiches. You might say "were they busy?", and I would say No! The place was almost empty. The people next to us asked how long we waited. They showed up after us and were waiting a while to. They said the last few times it has always been 45+ minutes for simple small orders to come out. Proceed with caution when dining here. CHEESESTEAK RATING: B- Not a bad cheesesteak for so far outside the city. Chopped steak, soft roll, they'll add anything you want.

Good wings and ribs. Service was good and beer was cold. What more can you asked for. Atmosphere was fun to be. I would recommend it to a friend.

Love this place for lunch with wife (mine, not yours). Fun in bar or better, on back deck.... weather permitting. Onion soup + Steak sandwich = YumYum. Realize it's a lively/crowded place during happy-hours and weekend nites with live bands. AND WARNING: Frequented by busloads of local college coeds... do not look, do not peek, do not allow your eyes to leave their sockets and crawl across the floor to their tables... Stay thirsty AND married, my friend.

3 stars because it is what it is; a dive bar without pretenses of being something more. I went on New Years Day because I wanted a drink and a bite and it was the only place open. Someone said the prime rib is to die for. If you mean dying because you are choking on gristle, then that's about right. Do not believe the hype, the menu claims to have world famous prime rib sandwiches. Mine had a huge chunk of inedible gristle running down the entire piece of meat. And, mind you it was a sandwich. My kiddo went for the French dip with seems much more pleasing. But as I said it is a dive, which has it's own certain appeal, the Four Season it is not. When you want to hide out and drink whisky in your ripped jeans and get utterly lost in every games being played simultaneously on the planet, this is your place, and mine when I just need a shot, not ambiance.

Certainly has the dive bar vibe going for it. Old dark interior, with a J shaped bar and several tables and booths. We sat up at the bar and the bartenders were very knowledgeable, easy to talk to, and attentive to our needs. The Crowd certainly seemed to be made up of regular local patrons who knew one another and the staff well. The servers were mostly younger girls modestly dressed. The food was typical pub fare with a large sandwich selection and a Bison burger (which I had). Everything coming out of the kitchen looked appetizing, and well presented. My burger was cooked to order and very tasty. The Beer selection was also pretty impressive. Several local and smaller craft brews on tap as well as in bottles. Beer from the tap tasted fresh and poured well, seems like they take good care of their lines and such. All in all if you're looking for a good local place to avoid the chains, I would certainly recommend The Trappe. They have some merch for sale so you can officially commemorate your visit. All pretty typically priced.

We've lived in the area for over 10 years now and we tried this place out when we first moved to the area. What turned us off back then was the fact that smoking was allowed and even though there was a non-smoking area, you could still smell the smoke. Those days are long gone and the place is smoke-free now. It's pretty much your typical bar type food but the quality was somewhat better than I was expecting. Service was good and friendly. My wife had the special burger that night was was really quite tasty. I went with the cajun salmon which was also pretty good. Both of my kids simply had the kids chicken finger meal. My wife and I each had a soda and my one son had chocolate milk while the other had water. I was a bit surprised to see the bill come to close to $50. In the end, we thought it was a little overpriced, so not sure if we'll return or not.

I have been here three times over the last year and the service has been great.(at the bar). The food has always been very great and plenty. A little noisy but packed, packed packed. Enjoyable crowd.

Went to Trappe Tavern while visiting a cousin who lives locally. We went with three kids on a quiet summer Sunday evening for dinner. We were seated quickly in the bar area and quickly reviewed the menu which offered quite a few options. There is also a kids menu. The waitress was really businesslike, to the point of being kind of unfriendly and unintentionally rude. The food, however, was very good. Between us we had cheese steaks, buffalo chicken cheese steak, and I can't remember what the two kids ate but I think they liked it. The clams came out first and were yummy, served with butter for dipping. Then the cheese steaks came out and whoa...HUGE and served with a giant pile of fries. Salty, cheesy deliciousness on a soft hoagie roll like I haven't had in years. The buffalo chicken came with plenty of blue cheese, and even chunks mixed in with the meat. We all took half our sandwiches home in styrofoam boxes brought to the table. Two things that I really didn't like -- the band for the night was bringing in equipment and stacking it right next to our table while we ate -- they should have seated us somewhere else. And the waitress said, when I ordered a drink, that the establishment has a rule that any adult accompanied by children can have no more than three drinks. I wasn't going to have another anyway and there was another adult who was not drinking (and was driving) so it seemed kind of insulting that she would announce the rule when I hadn't tried to order another drink. Maybe they have a history of drunk moms gone wild. Hmmmm, next time! I feel like I didn't get the real experience because of the time of night we went, having a cranky pants waitress and three kids whining about how long everything took (it really didn't). I would go back for the cheese steak (which I finished for breakfast the next morning) but no kids next time.

It's a bit of a dive bar but the food is great. Been a couple of times and all the food we all ordered was way better than anticipated. If you take the Trappe at face value it is a great place for a casual meal.

Been here a thousand times. Love the food, atmosphere, and friends. Sake for Leanne - she is absolutely the best - and tell her Mr G sent you. I usually do the Montreal filet, ribs, or NY Strip. All very good. For seafood, it's the salmon or seafood combo (broiled) that has a bit of everything! Enjoy!

Have been a Big fan of the Trappe Tavern for years, It's been a "go to" place almost every week and the food is always the same....always good! We love anything with their beef and love sitting out on their deck. The staff is great and we love the prices, for two we can get out of there for around $50 and that includes some drinks.

You don't come here for the food. You would be challenged to say a single item on the menu is the "Best in Town" and it's a very small town.

I was at the Trappe for a dinner awhile ago - our group was seated upstairs (probably a party of 20?) at a long table. The chief negative (might as well get that out of the way) was service. On the positive side, the jello shots were good, my Tavern Burger ($6) wasn't too shabby (peppers and mushrooms, oh my!), there are a ton of TVs on the walls (we were watching golf that night), ample seating, and live entertainment downstairs that we could hear. Pleasantly enough, it's NOT a dead spot - being down the street from Ursinus College probably doesn't hurt either. I'd return to enjoy a band and knock back a few drinks. Of course I haven't yet since I don't know enough folks that would actually come out and DRINK with me out in Trappe, PA...

As someone who's fresh from 3yrs on the west coast, this place may be suffering from reviews of locals who have lots of pubs with character from which to choose. I can tell you a place with history, a great draft selection, and local-feel is nearly priceless when looking for a local pub with good food, and this place has all those things. Would've given it 4 stars if wait staff was more friendly. Though, as a guy with a Yankees hat on, I did walk away happy to have not been engaged with any bitter debates on NY vs. PHI. Steak sandwiches highly recommended!

  • Nicky P.

The Trappe is okay. Their prices are average I suppose- but often a bit pricey for what you get. They probably make a lot more money on their bar scene which is why they get away with mediocre food and service. The service is always terrible! But they do have a big draft beer selection and a lot of TV's to watch sports on. All in all, good place to go grab a beer and watch a game but nothing spectacular. I noticed someone had commented about how a lot of locals are writing the reviews and we take advantage of having local pubs. I am a local, and maybe we do take advantage of it because there are a lot of mom and pop pubs so our standards may be a bit higher but all in all I would say this is a fair review reguardless of being a local or not.

  • Kevin H.

Great food and excellent service. Prices on food and drinks are pretty standard. There's always someone walking around making sure you are taken care of. Their prime rib is to die for as are their wings. Their wing sauce is really tasty. The place gets kind of crowded but who cares. That means they are doing something right.

    (5)
  • Alex B.

The Trappe Tavern is way overblown as far as bars go. The food is terrible, and the drinks are overpriced. However, they do have decent specials. Wednesdays are wings and pitchers, while Sundays are their infamous Silver Coin Nights. Aside from their specials, I'd find another bar. There are plenty more in the area. For example, Hemmingway's in Collegeville or Iron Hill in Phoenixville.

    (2)
  • Robin J.

They make the best buffalo chicken sandwich, it is huge and sauce is great. They have good prices and I like when you can eat outside with the cute "beach"! I do agree with some the bathroom is gross and the inside is very dated, old chairs- feels like you are eating in an old basement. But the food is great, priced right and outdoor eating atmosphere is the best.

  • Percy N.

Pretty basic place to grab a beer and not venture too far from the bar finger-food items off the menu. I tried the pork fajitas which was apparently out of the league of the kitchen. The pork was tough and the onions and peppers where limp and mushy, not sizzling. Wife's chicken wrap was OK, but not necessarily memorable. The layout is a bit odd and it can get pretty loud when it gets crowded. If you want decent beer, food and a much better atmosphere, go to Sly Fox or Iron hill a few miles away. If however, you are looking for a local watering hole, this is your place.

Awesome food, never had anything bad from there. I've had everything from Prime Rib which I think is the best around, to seafood. Monday they have AYCE crablegs, Tuesdays Strip Steaks, Wed Lobster, Thurs RIbs and the other specials. Jake is the chef and he really knows his stuff. For the price you can't beat the Trappe. Wings are good, great sandwiches, different other specials every night. Service is above average most of the time. I love the out door deck, i can't wait till it cools down a little to enjoy it more. They have tons of beers on tap, tons of TV's. It's great place to watch the games.

This place is an average place. Good beer, good food, but nothing that leaves you screaming for more. Its a nice laid back townie sort of place for lunch and in the afternoon. The place does have a nice history though. Back in the day travelers between Philly and Allentown would stop here for the night. Thusly their wives would call it the Trap. Eventually a town popped up there. They added a "pe" to make it seem like they didn't name the town after the inn. Just kidding. I don't know if that's true, I just wanted to write some more about this place.

A bit sleazy, but whatever - some folks like their bars like they like their women. Met my cousin there for a few beers when I was back in PA visiting family (which they were able to supply). There was a terrible cover band playing, I think their name was the Flaming Buttholes, but I cant remember exactly. The deck out back is kind of badass though, would be cool to hang out there during summer.

My BFF Sam took me here so I could experience some local "flavor". We took a seat at the bar right in front of the taps. It still took 10 minutes to get the bar keeps (who it turns out is the manager) attention. I got a #9 beer (I don't know the name, it has a 9 on the handle and is VERY good) and she got a rum and coke. We chugged, as is our way. 15 minutes later we were STILL waiting for the manager (who was less than 2 feet from us) to tear himself away from the Phillies game and take our order. We got more drinks and cheese fries and steamers. Manager dude brought them out without a word 15 minutes later. They were pretty good but the service put us in a bad mood. We decided we'd had enough of Managers 'tude and moved out to the patio. We got served RIGHT AWAY and the bartendress was super nice! If my BFF doesn't get her ass home soon and I MUST go visit her again, I'd come back here as long as we don't have do deal with Manager Jerkweed!

It's a sports bar, what more needs to be said. If your looking for fine dining, go elsewhere. Their sandwiches are large and well made. I have never gotten a bad meal but it is run of the mill bar food. It is a great place to go for lunch or after work. Staff is good. Sometimes like all business they get short handed and that is when you have troubles.

During the school year, "The Trappe" really has the feel of a college bar (it's about a mile and a half down the road from Ursinus College). Decent selection of draft beers, standard bar fare (burgers, etc.), semi-nasty happy hour buffet. Lots of TVs, pool tables upstairs, some good stuff on the jukebox, and there's usually a band or DJ at night. It's also not a bad place to hit for a quick lunch. Nothing spectacular, though.
