For an all you can eat buffet, rather good. Good selection, pleasant service.

This restaurant is relatively large and well themed............... Food is great especially gobi masala and veg biryani............ The thing was that I ordered rasmalai and after waiting fifteen minutes i went to ask them when is it coming:they said later...ok, then after another ten minutes I ask them again and what did they say??--read if you have the guts: they said " We cant open the box" and i saw them struggling to open a frozen food box.........but only for the creative decor I'll give them five stars

My husband's favorite food is Indian. We went with another couple and a total of 5 children between 1 and 8 years of age. They were able to accommodate our party, but it took them some time to set up the table even though they did not seem very busy. Also, the service wasn't the best, which is why they don't get 5 stars. We ordered family style. ..tandoori chicken, mixed grill, chicken biryani, chicken Tikka Masala, and naan. The food was good and hot. The bill was about 100 bucks for 4 adults and 5 kids. The location is cool...it is inside an old train.

Awesome Indian food! Don't miss it if u r in the neighborhood. It is losing a star just for the fact that we had to wait for about 45 mins for our main dishes to arrive!

I love Indian food, it is my absolute favorite since age 12. Although I am NOT Indian at all. I have had the best in NYC and also made authentically in friends homes who are Indian. To say that we have a decent Indian restaurant in the Poconos is an understatement. SURE the service could and should be quicker... but it is courteous and the food taste great.... have been a repeat customer for the last 10 years...

Charming real train car. Very authentic recipes. I got the eggplant, wife got the veg biryani, kid got chicken pakora. We left stuffed and impressed, with the food being well in excess of the atmosphere. Would return next time we are in town.

2 stars for service, 4 for food. Would rate service at 1 star, but the server and manager acknowledged the problems and seemed genuinely apologetic. The entire service team seemed overwhelmed. It was a holiday weekend and the place was overcrowded, and we were a group of 12. However that does not excuse the hour long gap between the appetizers and entrees. They also forgot a couple of dishes until reminded towards the end of the meal. Would visit again, but not on a holiday weekend! Hope they sort out the service issues.

Great food and service in a unique atmosphere. Finding the front door is bit of a challenge, but once you're in, you're good... once you realize you need to walk through the bar to get to the host. The dishes are tasty, though small and expensive. Rice is $3, even with an entree. 15% gratuity is automatically added for parties of 4 or more.

Unlike Harold I knew it was a restaurant, Plus its spelled out in BIG WHITE LETTERS on the train, if that doesn't clue you in, you smell food and see a buffet ahead of you when you walk in the door. Food was awesome, I love Indian food and they make it great. I've been to plenty who were horrible, not this one. They also serve naan bread, if you haven't had it and you like pizza, you will love it when made right. My negative is that they put a 15% GRATUITY ON THE CHECK, it's a BUFFET. Not sure if that is even legal, they don't serve the food. They also put a line for TIp on your BIll???? SO they are trying for a TIP after they already added a GRATUITY. That's bad BUSINESS, it's a shame I had to rate one star for bad business practice, food is a 4. Please take the Gratuity off...Look up Buffet Practices in America.

Went there last night with a 3 year old and three other adults, all hungry and excited to eat some good Indian food. We were received silently, not even greeted, by a gentleman that looked weary and grumpy. We told him the size of the party and before we could finish he walked away without saying a word. He returned with a stern "this way" and walked away quickly. He led us to the train part, at which point we clarified that we have a 3 year old and asked for a place easier to set up her high chair. He appeared to get angry and said "well, you didn't tell me you had a kid." He fussed as he picked up the menus and stomped over to a different room and table, never directing us to follow. We sat at the table and waited for 15 minutes without a single person acknowledging is. We even waived the guy down, but he just ignored us and kept walking (and yes, he did see us). Eventually we just got up and left. We passed the gentleman that sat us and he didn't even look up from the counter or say anything to us. I guess business must be too good to care about customers.

We had the all you can eat and its all worth it! The food is so delicious. Having to dine in a train is a great experience.

We were staying at the Days Inn next door to this location, so took the short hop, skip and jump (literally that close) to try this place. We had dinner there on a Friday night around 8pm and had to wait probably 30-40 minutes for a table, and we were starving so that didn't start off our visit well. Out of everyone in the restaurant my friend and I were two of maybe 4 white faces. Don't take that the wrong way, I'm saying that as a GOOD thing, because it meant that the Indian people come here, so you know the food must be amazing!! The staff were all nice enough and friendly enough, but you could tell they were stressed out and overworked. The owner mentioned to me when he was seating us in the train car (yes, you sit in a train car. It's cool) that he didn't know why it was so busy that particular night, so I think it was unusual to have such slow service. Our food service was also kind of slow, but it was definitely worth the wait when the food came. I had the Butter Chicken curry and garlic naan. My friend had the Chicken Tikka Masala. We both ordered it mild, and it was still a tad spicy for my wussy white-girl tastebuds to handle.. .but not too spicy that I didn't devour it. Definitely a lot of leftovers, but since we were in a hotel I was sad to have to leave it behind. We actually went to lunch there at the same restaurant the next afternoon, and had the buffet. It was great, as well, but I think I probably would have ordered from the menu in hindsight. I did get to try some crazy dessert option I never had before, though, so I guess that's a plus! I'm not in that area often, I was there on a weekend getaway trip in the Poconos, but I can definitely say it fit the bill for good Indian food that I had been craving. They also have a cocktail bar there, which is good to know for hotel patrons not wanting to drive anywhere.

Excellent food. Service was really good. The Bhuna Goat was tender and delicious. I've been there before, and I look forward to the next time. I'll have to try something different, but that goat is just so good.

  • Barry T.

The buffet is pretty decent if you show up early for lunch when everything is fresh. Unlike most Indian places in PA the food is not mild here which makes it much closer to the real thing. The use of spices makes the food much more authentic and aromatic. Service has always been good, and so is the nan. All you can eat for a good price. Go hungry.

  • Arvind W.

Awesome food. Great prices. They have a bar and serve alcohol too! I really like the ambience of a train and the references to the Indian railways. Try the indian breads (naan, paratha, kulcha), they are great!

Excellent buffet. Attentive staff. Amazing naan. I could eat a bucket of the chicken tikka Marsala and die a happy woman

Buffet mediocre and overpriced. Watch out for the added gratuity on the buffet. We'ver ordered from the menu before and that was quite good. Bit pricey for the quality though.

Had a longest dinner of my life here. Worst service ever. It took 45 mins to get table on saturday night and another 40 mins for the waiter to serve us food. And then guess what food was like shit. We literally had the worst dinning service ever of our life's. If you want to feel how the worst service looks like try eating at this place.

It was lunchtime Sunday when we were driving the extremely boring ride on RT 80 from NYC to Cleveland. It is always a challenge to find any decent to eat along this endless road of truckstops and fast food restaurants. My husband and I have always loved Indian Food and when we saw a sign for Tandoor Palace we knew we had to stop. Strange little restaurant located in a shabby but not unattractive dining room in a train car. The buffet table to filled with wonderfully fresh and inviting dishes of both vegetarian and meat selections. The hostess was extremely friendly and the server was attentive. But the best part was the food. We have eaten Indian food in both India and all places of the world. The food here was fresh and tasty and one of the best Indian restaurants that I have found in the Northeast. A little pricey for $18.99 for the luncheon buffet but well worth it. Definitely we will stop here again for a great break from road weariness.

My wife and I like Indian food and wanted to like this place, but ultimately were disappointed. Went for the lunch buffet, food choices were limited and what I did try really wasn't that great. Chicken tikka masala was subpar. Wife agreed with me. The building itself was kinda in need of an update as well. Id recommend you go instead to amber Indian restaurant in Moosic, better quality of food IMHO.

Worst restaurant I have ever been. Went there last night and they had some party going on in their party section of the restaurant and about 15-20 people were waiting to be seated for dine in. Their manager was rude and was going crazy I guess he might have not seen such a huge crowd before. As we were waiting in line I noticed that he charged about 3 tables wrongly and they were complaining about it. As we were waiting the manager comes out and say we have buffet for dinner ( which was left over from party) and if you want to have you can be seated if not be ready to wait in line for 45 min. food was aweful and service was worse. we had to ask for everything...spoon, water, bread, ... customers were going in kitchen as they lost the patience. dont ever visit this place

Delicious Indian food and friendly service. Right next to the highway. All of the food was flavorful and delightful, and there were many vegetarian dishes. At dinner, you can choose to sit in an old train car or a formal Indian dining room. Excellent all the way around!

  • Happy T.

They serve generous portions of really good food. The service is friendly and attentive. The prices are reasonable for what you get and we always take something home. We take the kids and grandkids there about once a month and have been through just about the whole menu without regretting a choice. The restaurant is located off of Rt 715 up a moderately long driveway. It's worth the trip!

If you're looking for a dining experience that is a bit unique then Tandoor Palace is a great place to visit. The restaurant in located in an actual train as shown in the photograph and diners can choose to either eat in the restaurant or in the train dining car. Of course I chose to eat in the train and it gives it a wonderful Darjeeling Limited feeling in a Wes Anderson-kind of way. I went for the Indian Lunch Buffet which has all the textbook items of most Indian Lunch Buffets. The chicken curry and the vegetarian items were particularly tasty and they are not skimpy or tight with the naan, so I enjoyed those aspects of my experience too. The service was so friendly and attentive! My main waiter was really warm and conversed with me a lot. I enjoyed my visit to the Tandoor Palace and would like to come back at least once a month as well as bring out-of-town guests here. It is a convenient stop to make if you're headed to the Poconos Mountains, Bushkill Falls, or The Crossing Outlets.

I had been here a few times before and really enjoyed the food. However, my last visit left a bitter taste. I was there with a few friends and we wanted a take-out. The person taking the order was really rude and even though he repeated the order thrice we got naans instead of rotis. We realized it once we were at home. The naans were inedible and most of it went into trash. The entrees, biryani and desserts were okay. I highly recommended this place to my friends but after this I don't think so I am ever going to this restaurant again.

Originally intended to dine at Pangea on this particular evening, but they were "closed for maintenance." Thanks to Yelp we discovered and eventually found our way to the Tandoor Palace. The term "palace" is a stretch. It's located above the laundry/maintenance annex of the Days Inn, which is across the street, and the restaurant itself has a train car attached to it. Or the other way around. Once you walk through the sad and dirty looking stairwell, unstaffed vestibule/lounge, and host station/nondescript dining area, you will want to be seated in the train car - it's the only spot in the place that has any ambiance. As other reviews have mentioned, this establishment really needs a thorough cleansing, to put it *nicely.* The food was delicious. Started with the chicken pakora. I had the chicken Rampuri Korma, served by itself in a small copper bowl. My companion had the Murg Melai kebab (chicken marinated in ginger, garlic, cream cheese and spices). We shared a bowl of basmati rice and a basket of incredible garlic naan. Servers were mostly inattentive. We had to remind them that we had ordered beer. I asked for whatever the darkest Indian beer was, but the server and I couldn't really understand each other. I ended up with Taj Mahal, which is like drinking water compared to what I normally drink. It's literally right off the highway, across from the southbound Tannersville exit off I-80. Their actual address is still one of those arcane rural route/box numbers that is of no help to anyone but a mail carrier and is thankfully being phased out. So, even though it's long overdue for basic cleaning and the servers are disengaged, the food is tasty enough to partially forgive these issues. 2.5 stars, rounded up.

Word of background: The first day we skied Camelback we had a horrible and expensive lunch in the nearly seatless lodge. The next day we left as the slopes got crowded around noontime and went out for lunch. Leave the mountain from 12n till 4pm, return for evening skiing - only way I could survive the endless lift lines. You need to tailor your expectations to the location. For the Camelback area, this place is a complete find. Children eat at a discounted rate and the food was quite good, if not the best indian you've ever had. The farina dessert was the most remarkable part of my meal. The kids were not the only ones who found eating in the rail care totally cool. I was entralled. My only complaint is that it was as hot as hades in there. Personally I love the motel/divey atmosphere. This is simply part of the unwritten deal. A more standard set up would be worlds less charming in my opinion. I can't see any good reason not to go if you're in the area. Lunch was inexpensive and kids buffet was around $8.

We had a very bad experience in this place. The Lady server / manager (i dont know under what capacity she works there ) treated us very rude. Except that lady's attitude and behavior the food and ambience are fine. I seriously think the hotel management should observe the way this lady behaves to the customers and take corrective actions.

I just had a really nice meal at the Tandoor Palace. Some observations: -It is located IN the Day's Inn...don't trust the Yelp location. The laundry for the motel is literally beneath the restaurant...but it is a very easy find from I-80. -I had a similar experience as one of my fellow Yelpers, no one there to greet us when we arrived at about 5:30ish...not an auspicious beginning. -We were seated in the train car, I agree it is kind of a neat dining area. -it was FILTHY in there. They needed to vacuum BIG TIME. For God's sake, clean the windows!! (At this point we were sort of eying each other and looking for the door, to be quite honest.) -The service was prompt and courteous, although I can see where it might be intimidating to a newbie to Indian cuisine. -The food arrived in a timely manner. -Had a couple of the entrees, and everything was well done. Well seasoned, well prepared, nice presentation...really kind of surprised me after the weak start. -Prices were reasonable for an a la carte Indian restaurant. -Always skip dessert in an Indian restaurant, words to live by. Honestly I'd give a four star review, and after a few more visits perhaps I'll change it, but the level of cleanliness was unacceptable in a restaurant that isn't in Calcutta...

I have been coming here since they opened it in 2004 (?). This is the best Indian food that I have had so far in North East PA.! Over the past 6 years, I have never had a bad meal. Everything here is worth trying. I have brought people here who never had the sweet taste of India, and they also enjoyed it. The wait staff are also pleasant to deal with; very friendly guys. My favorite dishes are the Sabzi Mahkni, Chicken Tikka Masala, and the Chicken Vindaloo (hot hot hot!). I love to accompany everything with some bread (many choices here) and the Mango Chutney. When I have room, I finish this off with some Galub Jamun! (I'm getting hungry just writing about this.) They also have an exceptional buffet that is offered daily (I believe.) We had it on New year's Eve, and absolutely loved it! Stop on in some time - it is conveniently located off route 80 in Tannersville, next to Comfort Inn.

The resturaunt is built into a TRAIN CAR! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Used yelp to find this Indian Restaurant as we were craving something spicy while passing through. We also noticed the billboard as another yelper but used the address provided by yelp and got lost on some country road. Eventually we plugged in the Days Inn address and found the location no problem right off the highway. The Pros: - Right off Route 80 in PA at Days Inn. - Restaurant is built into Train Car. - Huge restaurant with lots of Indian theme paintings, sculptures, etc. - Food is delicious and spicy (if you request it as such). - Staff is accommodating if they mess up an order (please read below). - Decent water service. The Cons: - Looked deserted when we arrived and we had to walk into the kitchen to find someone. - 12-15$ an entree is expensive when it comes with no rice and the portion size is very small. My meat dish came with only 8 pieces of meat and my GF was still very much hungry after we spent 40$+ on biryani, 2 entrees, and naan. - There was a regular customer who was disappointed and looked pissed that her entree no longer came with rice (and I presume the cost remained the same). - They kept wanting us to eat the yogurt they gave us to cut down the heat. However, we kept insisting we like the food spicy. I realize we are white, however, we always eat Indian food and even cook it at home. It is rare, but we can out eat many Indians we know when it comes to spicy food. Finally, it is important to note that they messed up my order of Lamb Vindaloo and gave me chicken instead (which I only eat at Indian lunch buffets). However, they made me a fresh batch of Lamb Vindaloo and let me keep the chicken dish at no extra charge. I would have been famished (like my GF) had I not received the extra dish through error. In summary, not sure we would come back here unless it is to try the lunch buffet. While the food is good, it simply is not plentiful for the amount of money you will spend for dinner. The cost is the same (if not higher) than Indian restaurants very close to NYC while the amount of food is less.

Solid food, attentive service, and great ambiance. I had the chicken tikka masala and it was as good as I get in the City (NYC). Sat in the train car and felt transported back to turn of the century.

It is a surprisingly nice place for eating Indian food on route 81. Don't go by the looks of the place! As you walk in, you go by a laundry room, through the stairs to sad looking dining place to finally the train. If you can pass that, and just take it for the food that they serve you will not be sorry. Every time we travel from upstate NY to NJ/NYC, we look forward to our break in Tannersville and lunch at this place. Service is also decent.

We recently moved to the area (Tannersville) and found Tandoor Palace based solely on their billboards. What a nice little surprise. It's kind of a bi-polar restaurant - the food was really top-notch, and we noted that 75% of the people eating when we were there were of Asian Indian decent - typically a good sign. And the service that night (a regular, order off the menu evening) was very good, our water glass was kept full all the time. The meals we ordered spicy were spicy, and the meals we ordered mild were mild. But the first impression is not all that reassuring. Up the stairs over the hotel laundry room, then through a shabby vestibule into an even shabbier big dining room. We were about to turn around and leave, when the waiter asked if we wanted to sit in the train car. Ah - this was what we were hoping for. Yes, it's an old train car. Yes, it's small and the paint is a bit yellowed. But there was a romance about it. The other couples and families (mostly older couples with their son or daughter and their spouses) were talking quietly. We enjoyed a leisurely dinner with no push to leave early, in a quiet environment with a sense of history. I'm guessing some of the other reviewers may have been concentrating on the value for money aspect, or evaluating the restaurant as a family meal destination - which I guess would be so-so if taken in the main dining room. But for a nice change from the chain-restaurant standards we all seem to take for granted these days, the Tandoor Palace is ideal. Why only 4 stars? I'll give it 5 when they put on some fresh paint and carpet and update their seating a bit. BTW - Parents, PLEASE don't insist on bringing your children to the train room. Selfish of me to ask so I guess, but it's all about the setting that makes it so special.

Yesterday, I was drivin' to the Tanersville Diner to get myself a open face turkey melt, but got lost and ended up at some train restaurant. Well, I didn't know it was a restaurant at first. Being a model train enthusiast, I immediately thought it was a model train shop. As soon as I walked inside, some small-fry comes up to me askin' if I wanna "Sit in the train". I told him sure and asked if they were having a sale on MRC Railpower 1300 switch boxes (since I stepped on mine and broke it the day before). To my surprise, there was people eating inside the train car. That's when I realized I was in some "ethnic" restaurant those big city types are always yammerin' on about. Since It was nearing my second post-lunch, I figured, what the heck, so I grabbed a plate and dug in. I tried some green stuff, some orange stuff, and some chicken. It was all pretty damn good, but sadly it wasn't anything remotely close to the Taste Bud.

Expensive Expensive Expensive. Came from out of town and wanted to have Indian food for lunch. I ordered a margarita and a few entrees. When the bill came i saw that the margarita was $12, very expensive. Normally margaritas are supposed to be $5-$7. They charged us for naan, rice, and papad. They had already added a 15% gratuity to parties of 4 or more. The space was too cramped up in the dining area. Do not go here, you will pay at least $20 extra than you should for a party of four.

This is certainly a unique dining experience in a renovated train dining car set along a Days Inn parking lot. Although it's not quite The Orient Express, it is a quaint and rather charming setting for dining in Tannersville, PA. More surprising than the setting, however, is the food. It is mostly delicious! I've gone for the lunch buffet a number of times as well as having dined a la carte in the evenings and I have not yet been disappointed in the food. The tandoori chicken ordered off the menu in the evenings has been fresh and yummy, served on a just as tasty bed of cabbage subzi. Highly recommended. I live in New York and frequent the Indian places in Jackson Heights and Hicksville and I would say the food is on par with most of them. The prices are higher than you'd find in Queens and Long Island (about double) although I suppose that is to be expected out in the middle of nowhere like this. The only disappointing dish I have had here was the Vindaloo. It was way too vinegary the time I ordered it to the point it was inedible. We left most of it and did not take the leftovers home with us. Also, the service has been hit or miss. Sometimes, the wait staff is barely attentive enough while at others, they barely ever come to ask how things are. On these occasions, hailing a server to get more water can be quite the chore when none are present for long stretches. If that is the way the wait staff operates, I'd just rather they leave pitchers or carafes of water at the table like they do at many New York restaurants rather than passing off their brand of lazy, inattentive service. Overall though, if you are looking for Indian food in the Stroudsburg area, you'd be hard pressed at the moment to find a better one than Tandoor Palace.

Excellent food at both the lunch buffet and for dinner. We usually only get carry-out, but they do have a very kind staff of wait people as well. The quality of the food was absolutely consistent for us until about a year ago and has been slightly variable more recently. Even so, it's quite good. If you appreciate Indian food, this is the place to go in the Poconos.

my first time having indian cuisine, and it was yummy. they brought our tandoor chicken and fish tikka. They were both really yummy and we also ordered curry, i forget which one, but in our opinion the portions were huge and were only able to eat half of what they gave us but we took the rest home, we felt it was kind of on the expensive side, i thought it lacked some spices, but my boyfriend enjoyed it very much. maybe its because i dont know much about indian cuisine, but my boyfriend has had it countless times.

I went to this place with my Indian friend and I really enjoyed it! It is a bit pricey ($60 for the two of us, but there was food left over to take home). When I asked for a White Russian, they said they did not have cream, but the waiter went right out and bought some and made me my drink!! Very nice! The food was great. Hot and spicy and very delicious, made very well and very fresh. We sat in the caboose and the atmosphere was great. I definitely want to go back there again.

We actually leave Camelback early just to eat dinner here! It's the best Indian food I've ever had & the service is great! Wish it was open until 10, so we could ski longer when the lines are shorter!

The train car was very cool. We picked this spot because of yelp, and I should note the directions for getting here are very wrong! It's right off the highway, no need to wind through the town to a residential street! It was around 5:30, so maybe we were early, but we almost gave up and left. We waited around at the front for about 10 minutes. My boyfriend was about to leave but I was really not in the mood for a wawa sub so I went to the kitchen door to ask the only person in there if they were open. He said yes and to pick a table. So we spent $45 (before tip) and I left pretty hungry. Don't get me wrong, it was tasty, not the best, but very good, but the dishes were so small. We ordered a vegetable biryani to go with our meals and the serving size we got was half as big (and a dollar more) as from our favorite place in North Jersey. It was good, it definitely could have been hotter (we asked for "very spicy") but it was good. I was pleased to see matar mushroom on the menu, as I don't see it often and I absolutely love it, but again, the dish it came in was tiny. Like teeny tiny, like smaller than my fist tiny. Tasty, but insufficient. When I describe the size, do note that I'm not a huge-american-portion eater normally, it really was genuinely small. There can't have been more than a single cup of food in the bowl. The waiter kept pushing the raita. We didn't order it because we didn't want it, but he brought it out anyway, and told us to eat it every time he came by. I suppose he thought because we are white we didn't know what it was, but we do, and we didn't want to ruin the wonderful spicy taste in our mouths! I seem to be complaining a lot, but the food was very good.

This place is a must go to in this area. The food is amazingly delicious (we had dinner and tried six items, all great). Then we had desert and masala tea, also great. The food is made to order and the waiters are very helpful in describing what each item is if you're unfamiliar. The service is the best, so attentive, courteous, firendly, I wish this place was near my home it's so good! Don't bother eating a gross meal at the foodcourt of the crossings or at one of the ski resorts. It's well worth going to Tandoor Palace - sit in the train car for ambience.

Decent Indian fare. This is located behind a hotel, you kind of have to be looking for it to find it. The restaurant actually has converted railroad cars for dining rooms...a little different. The food is good, I recommend the mulligatawny soup as a starter. Like all Indian restaurants, one of the biggest factors is that everything is a la carte, which means that to have a full meal you will be paying out of your a la butt if you know what I mean.

i stumbled across this place with a friend of mine while heading out to camelback mountain. We pulled up (it's located in a days inn) and just about ran in because we were starved. We walked in and were immediately seated in an old train car...very cool!!! So onto the food..they have a lunch buffet for $10.95!! you can't beat that! so we both decided on the buffet and dug in. Some of the options included, naan, tandoor chicken, rice pudding, paneer w/peas, chicken tikka masala all the wonderful sauces and chutneys and a few other things I can't remember the name of. The food was good and I ate entirely too much but it was a nice surprise to come across this place out in the middle of almost nowhere. The waiter was so incredibly nice to us too. I will definitely be back here.

We've gone to lunch buffet and took out catering for a party once. It's pretty good for the money. Nothing special, but good. Clean, friendly staff, and dining in the train wagon was a fun experience.

This place is a few miles away from my mom's home in Reeders. I have been here 20 or 30 times over the past five years and it is wonderful. The food is great and the prices are excellent. We go to my mom's for at least two holidays a year and on the one night that we are not cooking, like the night after Thanksgiving, we get takeout from here. The bread, samosas, chutneys, its all good. They also have a very nice Indian wine on the menu, OK, its not great but its nice to try out an Indian wine. An excellent staff too, my mom feels very comfortable eating here alone, they always remember her and ask about us. We found this place when she was looking for a house in the area and we really thought it was a sign that we had found the right town. We couldn't believe we had found such great food.

I went here with a couple of friends not too long ago due to the high reviews & wanting to introduce my friends to Indian food. Unfortunately I don't think they will be interested in trying Indian again due to the poor experience. We went here during their lunch buffet, and everything was definitely just sitting for awhile. A lot of the food was bland and not spiced nearly enough. The selection for the foods that were in the buffet was also poor. We sat in the train which was sort of dark and gloomy and the seats were sort of gross, covered in old stains. The main dining room you walked in for the buffet seemed a bit like a banquet hall and not so much a restaurant. I won't be going back here again.

We accidentally discovered this restaurant when we got off at the wrong exit to get to our hotel last year. We were a bit apprehensive on seeing the RR cars, but the food was very good and the service was excellent. So this year, on our annual trip east, we got off I-80 on purpose to eat here again. Although it was close to their closing time, the service was great, we weren't rushed, and the food was very good. Can't comment on the buffet since we had dinner both times (shared two entrees). How nice to have some interesting food that easy on/easy off!

Great from the moment we walked in! Delicious food and great service! Decor could use a freshen up but that is how good the food and service was where they deserve a 4 star instead of 3 star! Great little find in the backside of Poconos/Scranton PA! Eat in the train car, it brings a bit more of ambiance to your meal!

These 4 stars are based on having eaten here about 5 times a year for the last 6 years. But what spurred me to actually write this review is based on a low, 3-star experience I had here recently on Valentine's Day, no less. For starters, my husband and I have always loved this restaurant. It was the one place we could take our loud, ill-mannered infant son for a yummy (adult) meal and they still served the food with a smile and we never felt like they were rushing us out the door. The decor is dated (lots of painted murals and Indian tapestries) but the food is delicious and authentic. The staff is friendly without being intrusive (they seem to remember me and my kids even if it's been a couple months since we ate there last), seating is never a problem, and we always leave feeling satisfied with the food and the price point (we've even had our kids' last birthday party catered by them - our guests loved the food too). So imagine my disappointment when we'd been telling our friends and their kids about what a gem of a place Tandoor Palace was and instead, they had a very different experience from what we described. Just to be sure they had space for our party of 8, I had my husband make a reservation that morning. But as we stood at the front desk waiting for our table, I knew there was trouble when the manager started looking around at little post-it notes on the wall and under menus for it (everywhere but a reservation folder). After some walking this-way-and-that, he whispered something to the nearest waiter and we watched them bring 2 large tables together to accommodate us. I thought the worst was behind us, but then the manager told us we could only eat from the dinner buffet - no ordering from the menu was allowed that night which miffed me greatly (especially because I had been dreaming about their butter chicken and garlic naan), but I've had their lunch buffet before so I was confident it would still be great. Still, I think it was a very poor decision on their part to tell patrons as they were being seated that they couldn't order what they wanted but were limited to a few selections. But we were there already and had 3 hungry toddlers so I sat myself down with the kids while the other adults went into the back room to start filling their plates from the buffet line. Another bizarre thing was there seemed to be some celebration going on in the rear room (a party of about 30-40 people on the opposite side of the buffet table) so it always felt like we were intruding on their 'do every time we went to refill our plates. Strange. But I was so pleased our friends and their kids really enjoyed the food (esp the tandoori chicken, chicken korma, the naan, and the samosas). The next bizarre thing that happened was after my husband ordered our drinks, he was told by the waiter that we were allowed to order from the menu after all! Great, but why did the manager tell us differently? I did get my long-awaited butter chicken and garlic naan (along with a glass of Indian wine and a single red rose included with the Valentine's Day buffet meal- nice touch). Other nuisances though were a lack of service (my friend had to fetch us water from the pitcher himself after waiting for so long for a refill) but the service we did receive was always friendly and helpful. I thought it was also strange that the waiter that served the table next to us was also the same dude that we saw salting the parking lots to the Days Inn when we got out of our cars (I did a double-take when I realized his salt-covered gloves were hanging out of his back pocket while he presented baskets of paratha to his table). Troubling. Anyway, what I thought was the final surprise was the $31.95 pp charge for the meal (the buffet dinner is usually $21.95 pp) but after some investigation, my husband read the tiny little notice next to the cash register that mentioned the special occasion pricing. Oh well, lesson learned. The bonus is that they didn't charge for the 3 kids under 10 at our table (and they probably ate more than I did) and I got to take home our butter chicken leftovers (yes, there was some). The final surprise was when the manager chased us outside in the foyer of the restaurant claiming we didn't pay our bill and we had to explain that we paid it at the table with the waiter (not at the cash register) which is where we left the tip. He never came back to apologize to us either, but no surprise there. Not after so many 'surprises' all night long. So for a rare ,but poor experience, I would give them 3-stars, but 4-stars overall. There was just too much confusion and lack of communication on their part, even the food was still fantastic. I'll be going back again soon and you should too... just make sure there isn't a 'special night' happening at Tandoor Palace because you just might get a a little screwed in the end.

we went here after a day at the Camel Beach water park. We were not sure about the place since we got there just by following the billboard directions. But we were well surprised. The food was great, service fantastic. Spice levels were as we had asked for and the waiter also gave some good suggestions regarding the menu. We were given free papad and chutney while we waited for our food to arrive. It did take some time for the food to come but it was well worth the wait. The butter chicken was great, Dam Aloo & Dal were quite good, naans were well done and not too chewy and lassi (buttermilk) was quite good. And to top it off, they also had indian tea (milk based tea). We thoroughly enjoyed the meal and the only other thing we could have wished for was to be seated in the train (we were a group of 8 and they could only seat 4 together).

Not totally awful but definitely not great! I'm pretty spoiled by living in the bay area! I went here after an art opening in Stroudsburg, PA. Immediately upon arriving I was encouraged by the number of Indian people that were eating here. I thought, "Great!" Well... the service was not so great. The prices were FAR TOO HIGH. The cost was twice the amount that I would pay in San Francisco and the the amount of food was half of what I would get. The chicken was very well done - almost too moist (more moist than I am used to from Tandoori). The vegetable curry dish was the biggest disappointment! I believe a better vegetable curry could have been made by taking a bag of frozen vegetable and warming them up with a can of pre-made curry. In Fact - this is what might have been done! The company that dined with me was the saving grace for this restaurant.

After reading all the great reviews, my boyfriend and I decided to have dinner here. We sat in the train section and ordered a salad, rice, and kabobs; none of which was good. The ground lamb, which I was most looking forward to, had an overpowering nutmeg smell and was so dry it crumpled into pieces when I tried to cut into it with my fork. Then I heard UNEDITED club music blaring-"Shots" by LMFAO and Lil Wayne. I thought it was someone's ring tone and suspiciously eyed the other diners in the car, thinking to myself there was no way the restaurant was playing music littered with f-bombs. I realized at the end of our disgusting meal that it was indeed the restaurant's music choice. Crappy dinner in a club setting=not really what we were going for.

Oh, how I wish that I could give this place 5 stars. We've eaten there occasionally for the past few years, always for their lunch buffet, and the food is always excellent! We have never had a bad meal there, and everyone that I've been there with has always enjoyed everything that they've tried. The lunch buffet offers a decent assortment of dishes at a reasonable price (they have actually never charged us for our young children). The service is friendly and prompt. Have I mentioned that I LOVE the food? Unfortunately, the place is in desperate need of a good cleaning and perhaps some updating. The restrooms have always been clean, but the dining area leaves much to be desired, and we've always had additional "company" in the form of flies and/or wasps. Although the atmosphere leaves much to be desired, the food is good enough that I suspect that we'll keep coming back...and hoping that the next time it will be cleaner!

The food was very tasty and good quality. Similar to good Indian restaurants in NYC. Can be a little pricey, but the ambience is unique and the food is filling. Definitely quality Indian cuisine.

I am giving this review on a take out order which was my second experience with this place. First was a sit-down dinner that was pretty good but quite expensive compared to other Indian restaurants. Today I went in for a 'to-go' order, and looked over the menu before selecting a chicken in red curry sauce. I was assuming I would get another dinner, so I asked how much food was in one dinner. The answer was 12 ounces... of chicken and sauce. No rice, no bread, no vegetables, nothing else. The price is just for the actual curry mixture. I was assured that it would be enough for two people, if I got rice and bread to go with it. Now, I guess that an 'a la carte' system might be acceptable for this type of food, but it was $14 for just a little container of red sauce and chicken. To get some rice and Naan bread was another $3 each. That would be $20 for one person's meal (except he'd convinced me that 2 could eat it and be satisfied, as it was 18 ounces of rice). I ended up getting an appetizer of small chicken wraps, because I doubted his estimate of how much one person should eat. So with that $6, it brought the total to $27.35 including tax - and that's for one meal! One appetizer, one chicken curry dish, one rice, one naan bread. Seems like a lot to me, and then to add a little bit of injury to the insult, the curry sauce had about a dozen little cubes of chicken in it. Hardly enough for two people. Thank goodness for 18 ounces of rice! I do have to say, what food was there WAS good. I just can't believe one dinner was $27 and there was hardly any of the main dish!

Service: On point. Everything was brought out very quick. Granted there weren't that many people, it was still very quick. Decor: An American looking traincar with Indian Cuisine in the Poconos? I'm with it. Clearly it was a half-renovation with homage paid to the previous occupants. Also, don't forget, its a traincar. It was awesome. Food: This is legit the best part. I've been to a bunch of Indian places in NYC and I like this one very very much. The poori was so good and had perfect layers, Chicken Tikka Masala was delicious, the Chicken Korma was brought out to me with lamb by mistake and it was still so good. I told the waiter I'm totally content with their error but he still gave me a free order of Chicken Korma for me to take home! I'm actually eating it right now as I write this review! Overall: If you're in the area, go eat here. And tip well.

One of stars is earned from the simple uniqueness of the train. Everything else was bad. The place is old and dirty and full of flies and knats. So gross. Clearly an ongoing issue given all the flytraps. The food... Plain nan was dripping with too much butter. The chicken korma was sweet and lacked any Indian flavor profile. The lamb saag was tasteless. The lamb itself was mostly tender but the saag had no paneer and truly no flavor. Other than two kid sizes mango lassies a beer and a cosmos that's all we had. And it was $75!! Rip off I almost gave a second star for the service but the fact that they pre bill 15% gratuity for a party of 4 was enough to offset that.

    (1)
  • D R.

Food is average at best. I have never seen lychee paneer dish before... The nan was crisp the first time and soggy the next time... rest of the stuff is pretty average... Beware, This restaurant charges 15% gratuity and expect tip on top of that... In all th1rty s1x d0llars for a buffett in poconos sounds too expensive.. and that too for mediocre buffet. They have two things going for them : a) Vanity of a train setup sounds fancy for kids. b) No other indian restauran

Tandoor Palace has pretty good Indian food, authentic and very average. For that alone two, and a half stars. What bothered me was the lack of cleanliness. We actually ate under an electric fly trap in the train car and the restaurant itself was loaded with flies. I found the decor, especially the alter of Ganesh and the rat in the footstool, over the top and not exactly appetizing to look at after dinner. We were all actually creeped out by the whole experience...and for us, who all love Indian food and culture, that's saying something.

  • Kru K.

The whole train thing is really cool. 13 of us had come for dinner... The dinner buffet dint have good veg options so some of us ordered a la carte.... Paneer kofta, paneer bhurji and paneer chilli.. All 3 very quite ordinary.... Paneer kofta was bland the gravy was good but kofta was just paneer with no masala. Naans were nice and soft.... The Biryani and raita was awesome. Some of my frnds love the lamb roghenjosh.. In general the staff is very nice and co-operative and hence the 4 stars.... Food is just 3 stars

Went there last night and left the place in total distraught and disgust. I should have went with the reviews and avoided this place, but my 3 year old son loved the idea of having a dinner in a train. As soon as we got in the restaurant the Indian uncle who was there (Sunday Night) treated us like we came there for free food. First I told him table for 4 Which we were but didn't count my toddler which was totally my fault. When we asked for high chair he started making faces and started talking in a high tone"you said only 4 people..there is 5 of u..we weren't going to charge you for 5 if u said 5"..huh? Excuse me?! Why would you ever speak to your customer like that in that tone?!? I Again apologized for not counting my toddler and asked if we could keep the high chair behind our chair since nobody was there behind us and also told him we will immediately take the high chair out if somebody comes for the table behind us. He again started making faces and told us he didn't want his customers to wait until I move the high chair out IF somebody comes that is..considering it was a Sunday night and there were only two tables occupied in the train. Excuse me..but we are your customers too..shouldn't you be worried about your customers who are already there?! Also when the table of 6 all the way in the back of the train got empty we requested if we could move over there since he didn't want us to put the high chair behind our chair..he simply LIED that "oh we have the reservation for that table". We know he lied because we called and asked if there was a reservation for 6 in the train that Sunday evening. We were really disgusted the way the Indian Uncle with the mustache treated us and we're very sorry we even considered this restaurant in the first place. That Indian guy who seated us shouldn't be allowed to work in a public place at all..not pleasant, very rude and don't care about his customers one bit. He should be immediately fired! Well, after the after the way he treated us we didn't even order the food and left as soon as we can. We have many families and friends in PA And you can be sure we will let everyone know to avoid this restaurant at all costs.

Terrible Indian foods and too much charge and less food in buffet . I recommend to people who are going to visit Pocono never try food here.

We visited PA last year and had take out here and the food was good. So we decided to come back to sit and eat. Walked in for 2 minutes and it looked like a madhouse. Even for a open buffet, people were standing and eating, food looked old.

My wife and I love Indian food, are from New York and were looking for an Indian restaurant in the Poconos. We did not think there was much of a chance we would find one to match our high standards in great Indian food. We found it at Tandoor Restaurant! The service was great. The food was perfect! We ordered Mulligatawny soup which was completely balanced and delicious. We also ordered bhindi masala and palak paneer. Both were fantastic. If we lived in the area we would come here frequently. For now we will come whenever we visit the Poconos.

Where else can you find any decent asian restaurant here at pocono? And having (asian) buffet lunch inside this old train? Only here at Tandoor palace. About the services, its ok. The servers are nice and polite. Actually I dont care with their services, but more concern about their food. (Because im going to this restaurant to eat not to hang out with the servers.) And good thing that im so happy to find this restaurant because I dont have to deive all the way down to NJ or NYC to find indian restaurant. I love their sweet dessert... yum

This is such a unique restaurant and I thoroughly enjoyed the experience. You park your car in front of the train and get to dine inside! We did the lunch buffet which is $15 on the weekend. Lots of options and good for those who want a good dose of vegetables. There were a variety of vegetable mixes and curries. The two meats I tried at the buffet were chicken tikka masala and goat curry. Both were good but I loved the goat curry! The spinach mix was good too. They kept running out of basmati rice but I'm sure that's because everyone was saucing it up with their curry. The naan.....oh the naan. It has to be the best naan I've had so far. Fluffy but light, greasy but not that oily. Rips apart easily and straight out of the oven. I wasn't too crazy about the dessert but by then, I had stuffed myself silly with the buffet. I had a great dining experience here and sitting inside the train cart made it perfect. The staff was friendly and I look forward to dining here again if I'm in the area and craving Indian food.

Food was ok, but the buffet adds a mandatory 15% gratuity - which is clearly overcharging for self service.

    (2)
  • Patrick F.

The food was ok but at $11.95 plus a mandatory 15% gratuity it's not really a $13.75 self-service buffet. The hostess sat us at a table that hadn't been cleaned; there were flies in the restaurant; and I found a bug on me after walking out. Staff are generally unfriendly. Go somewhere else when passing through the the Poconos.

This is THE most amazing restaurant in Poconos. We are from NYC and we measure all other Indian restaurants by Tandoor Palace standards. Both the incredible tasting food and friendly service are amazing!

It's so hard to find good food in these rural towns. Even the ski crowd tends to gravitate towards pubs and American food. No Applebee's for me thanks. This place was awesome. It rivaled some of my go-to Indian spots in Philadelphia and the staff was so nice. The Tandoori Chicken was the best I've had anywhere! Everything else was amazing. The Chicken Tikka Masala was my favorite. Nice and creamy with good flavor. My only (minor) complaint is that the naan was a little too buttery. It was dripping. But hey, it tasted great! Lunch buffet was $15 on Saturday/Sunday. I'll be back!

It amazes me how little it takes for someone to leave a bad review. Not enough parking space? Dark parking lot ?? Food here is great. Train car is awesome and unusual. I,come here every time I pass the area. Prices a are also very reasonable.

The food was great! The food came out on sizzling and fresh. The dining is in a train, a little tight but unique. I didn't care to much for the tacky Christmas lights tho. There food came out fairly quick for what we ordered but they only had one waited so it was a little slow upon check out. The price was on the expensive side tho, but the food was delicious so it works out. I definitely would come back for the Chicken Tiki Masala!

This place was a blast. My wife and I were driving back from NYC and our stop here was a spur-of-the-moment decision prompted by hunger. The restaurant (or hidden gem) was right off the interstate. We had the buffet. One of the best Indian Lunch Buffets we've ever visited. Their food had just the right amount of spices and flavoring (something you don't see often at buffets), the waiters were attentive, and the rail car was just too awesome. Their Nann bread was cooked perfectly. Three of the most memorable dishes were the Saag Paneer, Tandoor Chicken, and the Chicken Masala. Also, they had an amazing chickpea dish that had a hint of cinnamon that we've never had before. We ate too much and didn't have room for desert (which was provided with the price of the buffet). If you are ever traveling from Upstate NY to NYC, make sure you plan to go through Tannersville at lunch time (we go through PA to avoid the tolls).

We were at this restaurant several years ago while driving from Pittsburgh to NYC. We were there again in May 2015 and the food has improved tremendously. The chicken Biryani was outstanding and so was the Fish Amritsari. The Malai Kofta was a bit hard. But it was the little things. The quality of the chutney and service. We will be back!

Not recommended. The staff is rude and inattentive, the wait is long and the food is nothing to call home about. The location has a limited parking area, poorly lit. My husband and I dined there in October. We had difficulty parking, since it is poorly lit and it has very few available spaces. A van nearly rear-ended our car while backing out because it could not see us. We walked inside and stood around for 10 minutes before someone acknowledged us and asked how many were in our party. 15 minutes later we were escorted to a very dingy train cart. We were told we could use the buffet, and walked away. Once during the diner, a lady refilled out glasses. Overall, the food is good, but not great. The service was slow, and the staff was not friendly at all, but we assumed they were simply tired from a busy weekend. Late December, we returned with 3 relatives. The staff was downright rude and completed ignored us for 15 minutes. 20 minutes after walking in, we walked out. The restaurant was only 1/2 full. No one bothered to tell us they would be right over, or even smiled in our direction. We will never return. The Poconos is filled with many other dining options, so this one is off our list.

The dining room is a converted rail car.. Stopped here once before after a day of skiing and had a pleasant feast..This time however.... Waiter arrived sniffling with a runny nose... His bloodshot eyes were watery and dark... Complaining that he got sick yesterday. He looked bubonic. Seriously?! When he returned with the lentil crackers... The thought of eating anything that has been in the same room as this guy repulsed me. I ate next door at the diner.... Great honey dipped fried. Chx

The soups were delicious. The other food was also very good, however, the service not so great. We were served our appetizers which were very tasty, however, they were served with some cut up cabbage, onion & carrot on the side, which served no purpose as an accompaniment. We were also supposed to get a couple of traditional dipping sauces, but had to ASK for them, not once, but TWICE & also for my Perrier. NOT impressed. They are polite though. If there were other Indian restaurants in this area & if the food wasn't good, I wouldn't come back based on our experience, but the dishes WERE in fact delicious so I'm sure we'll return at some point in the future.

Service is slow and not so friendly Food is average nothing to write home about. Atmosphere is fine What really is poor is the price You can get a meal for four for 40% less at most other area Indian restaurants and get rice included in entree (xtra here) beware if you have 4 or more they charge gratuity

Friendly service once you sit. Food was flavorful and not too spicy. I would have preferred a larger buffet selection but had a great experience. Wait staff are always at your service you don't need to look for them, they come every few minutes and refill your "Naan (bread) basket". Btw buffet food is not kid friendly. We will definitely come to this place again.

The place is a DUMP. It's located inside a Day's Inn with garbage spewed all across the parking lot and the bottom of the stairs leading up to the restaurant. The restaurant itself is small and seems like a make-shift arrangement. Food is below par, we would have been better off choosing a different restaurant in the area. Service is RIDICULOUSLY slow and RUDE. And oh yes, they conveniently slap on gratuity for a party of 4 or more because they know they won't get any tips for their lousy service. One of the waiters had a loud altercation with a family who had been waiting for 30 minutes for their dessert - their kids were getting antsy and wanted to leave, but the waiter just wouldn't bring them their order. The language the waiter used for unacceptable, and we had to cover our children's ears to prevent them from hearing the obscenities that the waiter generously belted out (turns out he had simply forgotten about their order even though they reminded him 3 times, and they were the only family beside ours in the restaurant!). Ambience and cleanliness - Very poor Staff - Don't even ask Food - Below average Price - not worth it for free I am still disappointed that our children had to witness such a distasteful altercation, and I feel sorry for the other family that had to go through the ordeal of being cussed at by the waiter. He should be fired.

Surprisingly scrumptious! My boyfriend and I stopped by Tandoor Palace after visiting the outlets for dinner. We pulled up to a building connected to a train car. The restaurant is actually larger than what I expected. There is seating in the train car and regular seating available. The train car ambiance is really inviting and fun but the other parts of the restaurant isn't anything special. One con about sitting in the train car was that it was a bit cold. We decided on the buffet menu instead of ordering regular dishes off their menu because it's a better bang for your buck. Also, the server said if we ordered off the menu it'll take 30 minutes to cook. I was too hungry to wait for food...haha There's a good balance of classic vegetarian dishes and meat dishes at the buffet. According to my boyfriend, who's a huge fan of Indian food, the chicken tikka malsa is one of the best he ever tasted. The sauce is creamy and sweet. Typically, white meat chicken is dry but it was pretty juicy in this dish. I'm not an expert but I think the dishes tasted pretty authentic. We would definitely go again and order items on the menu.

Arguably the most strange restaurant in terms of placement and aesthetic but no matter, I shall be brief. 1. Nothing about the train car concept appeals to me. I have always found it to be too cold to dine in and get my food to go. Also while the employees have always been courteous, the service tends to be on the slow side. 2. It is, however, a godsend that there is an Indian restaurant in the Poconos. My family and I have a ritual of getting takeout here after shopping at the outlet mall. The butter chicken is by far the best I have had here, NYC, Philly, India, you name it. As an Indian American, I have no qualms about admitting to being a snob about food from my culture. Some of the dishes at Tandoor Palace are mediocre, especially the vegetarian ones, so I can see why some didn't find the food noteworthy. Buffets are not my thing so I cannot speak to that but I highly encourage patronage of this restaurant, if only to keep this purveyor of delicious butter chicken in business.

Exterior design of the restaurant is a train. Pretty cool and yet, random. Walked inside and the smell was infused with all different spices. I don't know if I was really hungry or not but it smelled delicious. We ordered Garlic Naan, Wheat Roti, vegetable samosa, chicken masala, rice and the lambchops. Really enjoyed the food as well as the ambiance..service was alright..just waiting on my bill. Maybe they should take off the Christmas lights...they're not lit lol overall was pretty good. Just make sure you tell them if you don't want it too spicy, have it mild.

Pathetic!! Firstly, costliest buffet on earth for a regular Indian restaurant! ($17-18) Secondly, food not great, pretty average!! Thirdly, ambience pretty average, nothing great about the restaurant - the train car may seem cool from outside, but trust me there's nothing great abt it.. Fourthly, a mandatory 15-20% tip on a buffet - wtf, are you kidding me?? Really?? We paid $26 per head!! Never in my life had to pay more than $12 for an Indian buffet!! Highly not-recommend this restaurant!!

I visited this place when I was on a trip to PA .The ambience was good , the food was decent , not very great but the service was pathetic. What really annoyed me was after having an expensive buffet they charged us compulsory 20% gratuity !!!! Thats crazy !!! They cant force us to pay tip ! I strongly don't recommend this place !!

We reached there around 11:15 and the buffet wasn't ready and they refused to serve from the menu. Manager was way too rude and started lecturing about how restaurant system runs in this country and told us to come back at noon. What is the point of opening the restaurant at 11 when you have no food ready to serve until noon. The manager excuse for this question was we generally don't get customers till noon. I would never recommend this place to anyone because of this service even if the food maybe excellent.

This place is located at a prime location being very close to outlet mall and little far from Bushkill falls area. The food is decent and they generally keep buffet on busy weekends. We have been to this place three times and our experience has never been sour. I recently visited this place on Memorial Day weekend and noticed that they have increased the price of buffet from $13.99 to $16.99. My husband really liked the tandoori chicken and this place is good for both vegetarians and non-vegetarians. I will recommend this place for lunch or dinner after a long day of shop or adventure. It is a good family restaurant and decent variety to curb your hunger

Excellent menu, preparations were excellent, and it's kid-friendly, plus there's a fun loungey lounge. Near Camelback Mountain, so it's a very good after-ski destination. But mostly I was impressed with the authenticity of the dishes and the variety of selections. As good as any Indian food I've had in Philly.

Great food and cool interior! The service was amazing and they even made a special dish for my sister who was not feeling well. Made by the waitress since she knew how to make that special dish the best! Very nice of them! Great Indian food and we are all Indian!

My fiancé took me here because we both enjoy Indian food. What is unique about Tandoor Palace is that although the lounge may be upstairs with a traditional seating area for larger families or groups, the other half of the restaurant takes place in a decadent converted railcar. We went for the buffet which contained more vegetarian options than non vegetarian options which is a big plus for this vegetarian. We enjoyed mango lassis and two baskets containing tandoor and naan which tasted just as warm and perfect just like when it arrived. I also appreciated how there didn't seem to be any televisions playing in the background of the restaurant like most restaurants seem to have nowadays. Nice, quiet ambiance. Would it be a stretch if I added that this place is romantic? Cute date idea! Not sure what dining in a railcar might be like on a more humid day but as I stated earlier, they have indoor seating in a more controlled environment. Located at the top of the hill across from Days Inn overlooking i80.

I was amused first looking at the train restaurant.. thats what it is, a train car has been converted into a resturant with good decorations and ambience inside.. It was heavily crowded for dinner with plenty of Indian tourist crowd visiting poconos for the holiday weekend.. We took the dinner buffet which I think is way overpriced at 18.95$, but food was good and flavorful

We left Great Wolf and went to Tandoor on a Sunday night. Food was good. Really enjoyed. Rich flavor, fresh ingredients. There is no ambiance. Banquet chairs, awkward mix of furniture. Train is cool, interesting and fun. 3 dinners, rice, a beer and a soda was $90. They added gratuity. It was good but for $90 could used a ambiance update.
