Definitely worth the trip, but very difficult to find since the place doesn't have a numerical address. If you aren't familiar with the area, it is best to call ahead and find out exactly where you are going. The service was excellent and the ambiance fantastic. The place is very cozy and the music and fire place makes going there on a snowy night romantic. The food was very good! I had the ceviche as an appetizer and the Chilean sea bass with mango salsa as an entree. Others had the crab cakes, smoked salmon, and stuffed mushrooms. All the food smelled and looked wonderful. It was pricey, but I'd go back.

We've been here many times now and the food and service is excellent! You should definitely make a reservation because they are always very busy.

So damn expensive. I've had the good and the bad here. Mostly good over the last 12 years, and I agree that Mr. Moore is a nice guy and hardworking and a solid chef. No doubt. My problem is, when paying mid 30s for an entree, I want it to knock my socks off. That just doesn't happen here. So, there's a little bit too much of a profit motive at play with this place. I'm surprised that most people aren't scared away by these insane prices - but then again, I'm also thinking that people go only for special occasions wherein price is not an issue. I remember when the filet mignon was 21.95. Now it's like 40+ and sometimes not so good. That's absurd steakhouse prices, and I would venture that the beef isn't even prime beef. No thanks.

Had always heard that Stone Bar Inn was expensive and good for special occasions so I decided to take my husband there for his birthday. Tho' not the fault of the restaurant, we were unfortunately seated very near a table with three couples who were extremely loud. Heard every word they bellowed out without wanting to. My husband had snails which he said were OK but he makes them better. He ordered rib eye with foie gras which was huge and very pricey. He said it had good flavor but was a bit tough. I had a half duck because they don't serve the entrée salads on the weekend which was what I really wanted. The duck was no better than my local gasthaus in Germany. Desserts were very good. But for the price we could have gone to the French Manor and had a real gourmet meal, properly served and in quiet surroundings. Consider it one and done at Stone Bar Inn.

Great food here. However I haven't been here since "the incident." I went with my parents here several years back, and my dad bit into a used bandaid that was mixed in with his dish. He alerted the server who then brought out the manager. The manager assured my dad that "none of our staff had a bandaid on." Basically, he accused my dad of putting the bandaid there himself to score a free meal or something. In the end, they gave us one free dessert, and my dad lost his appetite. So much for the customer is always right. Can't speak for the service today, as it's been awhile since I've been there. But I feel no need to enter here again after having been left with a bad taste in my mouth.

One of the best meals I've ever had. I loved sitting in the table inside the kitchen--what a cool experience. Highly recommended!

Great Food and Great Service. While not a place to go for everyday fare, we were real pleased with finally a Great place in the Poconos... Had the lamb it was cooked to perfection. Will definitely be going back again!!!

Dessert here is amazing... While not everyone at my table loved their food I thought it was great. Appetizers are all good and everything comes out in a timely manor. Service is nice and overall it has a comfortable and cozy atmosphere. Defiantly worth the travel from Scranton.

Can't speak for the others in my party, but I had the rack of lamb. It was the worse lamb I ever had...ever. There were 5-6 ribs, but the edible portion was the size of a dime. So, bad, I did not finish it. Fortunately, the appetizers filled me up. However, the staff was EXTREMELY friendly. The entres that my fellow diners had looked very good. I would order the steak if I ever came back. A little pricey and a little overrated. But I'd come back for another meal here. Just not the lamb.

Delicious. Food beautifully presented as well. Had the pork shanks osso bucco & they were fall off the bone. Started with phyllo stuffed with brie with sausage and raspberry sauce - awesome! Ended with a delish vanilla bean creme brulee'. Atmosphere old style, warm and inviting. Nice wait staff.

The Stone Bar has changed in the last few weeks. For the first time in 15 years the meal was a complete disaster and not to any standard that Andrew has always delivered. Menu changes to only daily specials on steaks and sold out of filets on a thursday before the weekend. I was served a $35 strip that was a $10 steak on a good day. I would not have expected such a reduced menu and having to ask if a filet is on the menu is just not acceptable. Sadly, the Stone Bar is simply charging top dollar for a meal that is sever levels below. I would never expected this. We won't be back after 15 years of patronage.

I was a bit skeptical at first because of the lack of reviews but this place is a winner. We came for my mom's birthday. I had a bottle of Merlot, the mussels in a Thai curry sauce, soup sampler (crab and corn bisque, French onion, Manhattan clam chowder) and the Delmonico rib eye for 2 (medium rare). Everything was EXCELLENT and very much on point. Our server was very nice and accommodating. I felt very welcomed here; the service was superb. I could come back just for that but the food was A1 also. The bar was fully stocked, decor was quaint and inviting. They even have a real fireplace here and it's lit. Awesome!!!

The restaurant is overpriced and a real disappointment. We had scallops, which were mediocre. Appetizers and soups were better. We ate outside on the patio, which was a very nice atmosphere.

Saturday night, full. Seated within 15 min and we waited at a the bar. Well stocked bar. We had a selection of appetizers baked Bree, smoked trout and beef carpaccio. All were good. Big portions for appetizers as well. We were going to end with the cheese board but the 3 appetizers filled us up. Fresh fruit and ice cream was a great clean desert. Overall a bit pricy $12 glass of wine $14 for a Manhattan those are city prices!!! Yes we will be back but for big events not the " lets go out for dinner" on the moment.

We've enjoyed numerous dinners here over the years. Tonight's was no diss appointment either. Their specials for New Years Eve were outstanding. Stuffed chicken breast was perfectly done and the sauce was an nice accompaniment. The Mahi Mahi with the mango chutney was moist and flakey with an incredible sear. Their surf and turf of steak and shrimp was a great twist on an old favorite. Everyone's veggies and garnish were done to perfection. Highly recommended.

I'm fortunate that this place is only five minutes from my house... I'm also unfortunate because of the cost I can't make it my regular dining out place! It's not quite too expensive to make it only a "special occasion" place but expensive enough that I have to think about whether or not I want to spend the money! I've been here about a dozen times and the service has never been bad. They do a fantastic job making you feel special for dining with them which is great. From the bartenders to the wait and support staff they do a really nice job. As for the atmosphere I really enjoy the experience, there a few different areas you can sit including the kitchen which is a lot of fun to do once in awhile. The menu has a number of great items on it and all areas are tasty, great appetizers, entrees and fantastic desserts. You can't go wrong here as the food, service and atmosphere is always good - one of my favorite finer dining locations in the area.

Mu husband and I were very pleasantly surprised by this place. We sat in the cutest, coziest booth. Our waitress was very pleasant and provided great service without being overbearing. My husband inquired about bread being brought to the table, aa there was butter and crackers. She mistook his question to mean he didn't want the warm, crusty delicious cranberry orange bread that was brought out..so she had the chef make him some garlic bread which was equally delicious! We had the raw oysters..wonderful & fresh..& the beef carappacio was outstanding. That's just to name a few items..overall great dining experience. .can't wait to go back!

Have been here many times since it is so close to where we used to live. You will not be disappointed and the prices are to be expected for the quality of food. I want to give it four stars due to the wait staff and the consistency - you know you will get good food and a romantic dinner. You will also get a very hearty meal and a menu that rarely changes. And roasted veggies. Always. With everything.

After living in the Pocono's for many years and hearing awesome things about the Stone Bar Inn I decided to finally go ahead and give it a try. Boy was I disappointed. Upon arrival we were not greeted by a hostess and about 3 employees walked right by us without saying a word or acknowledging us. Finally after approaching the waitress we were seated for our 8pm reservation. We were seated in a room with only about 3 other tables so that was nice. Our Martinis were fabulous and they give you a generous amount. We ordered calamari for appetizer and it was very chewy. For my entree I had the half duck and it was extremely dry and tasteless. My friend ordered the lamb and barely touched it as she did not like the sauce it was served with. We were looking forward ordering dessert but after being disappointed with our meal we decided not too. The waitress did offer to bring out something else and than sent the manager to talk to us. They did remove the lamb from the bill since it was barely touched. My girlfriend and I like to venture out and try new restaurants in the area for our girls night out outings .... This one we will not be back to for sure!

Very intimate, old New York feel to it in the middle of the poconos! The food is always delicious (I recommend the filet and lobster) :) the wait staff is also extremely well experienced and knowledgeable. No complaints and have been here four times so far and making sure to return!

One of the best places in the poconos! the owner and wait staff are 2nd to none. always impresses us each time we go there. don't understand why it's only a 3.5 star. well you can't please everyone i guess and i read the ones that didn't like it and i think i know why and who that type of person is, and i will stop there. this place is very intimate, romantic, classy, and still you can wear jeans if you want, it's that diverse. the drinks are great, love the mohitos and martinis. love the buck a shuck nights on fridays, plus there is entertainment that night as well so it's hopping. we usually stick to appetizers because they're so delish but sometimes we get the rack of lamb and steaks, both awesome. we would highly recommend this place.

Very good food with good service. Not sure if it's worth the price... At least on Friday's, they seem to have live music which is a plus. Otherwise, the atmosphere is nice (lots of wood), but not great. Would I recommend eating here? Sure. If you're local and want to mix it up from the other usual suspects, this is definitely on the list. (In more recent visits, the food has been slightly lower quality than it used to be, so YMMV.)

Just like Lois H. mentioned - the place is overpriced, the food is ok, A lot of local people seem to be head over heels with this place, but I am not from around here ... The interior is terrible !I mean they keep it clean but it's so dated I feel like I am going to run into my great gramma. Also one time our waitress was a very pregnant girl, I mean I get it , she needs to make money but I felt awkward watching her carry heavy plates back and forth... The last time I was there i had scallops that were undercooked, just covered with balsamic vinegar , on a fancy plate.

I will begin this review by saying that I don't often review restaurants. Most places we patronize are either longtime favorites, or have been researched as to minimize potential disappointment and money wasted. It's been a very long time since I have felt compelled to write a review, but felt Stone Bar needed to be addressed. My mother had decided on Stone Bar as the place to celebrate our fathers birthday, it is his favorite restaurant in the area. Excited to have a fun night, we all hopped into our cars and headed over to Stone Bar for a 6pm Saturday night reservation. As previous posters have noted, if you aren't from around here, call for directions. It is in the middle of nowhere (pretty much everything is in the Pocono's) and the bridge that must be crossed to get there is currently closed. So, even if you have GPS, the odds of you finding this place is low. The building and surrounding grounds are nice. A very rustic feel, and very quiet. I had high hopes as we walked through the front door. Our table was ready for us upon arrival, no additional waiting was needed. The bar was pretty busy, and it seemed like about half the restaurant was filled. Our table for 8 was nestled in an alcove down a few stairs and around a corner. It was almost like a semi private room, with only another table for 5 on the other side of the room, well out of ear shot. Dimly lit throughout, the ambiance was relaxed and cozy. Our 2 servers arrived, a nice touch for a larger party like ours. Our drink orders were placed, and they arrived promptly. The mixed drinks were prepared well, with top shelf spirits. My bloody Mary was spicy and smooth. We were handed our menus, and given some time to look over the selections. My first thought was, wow, this place is pricey. Very pricey. Appetizers were between 10-15, with all main courses over 30, most almost 40. We are talking about NYC prices here, 3-4 star NYC prices. I ordered the pan seared steak, with peppercorn sauce. It arrived with a few root vegetables, a small scoop of mashed potatoes, and the steak itself. The steak was undercooked by 2 temp ranges, and under seasoned. 15 minutes later it was returned, still undercooked (I order medium) and horribly under seasoned. It was pretty tough, and basically flavor less. I kept quiet as to not ruin any ones time or my dads birthday. Deserts took almost 30 min to arrive and were OK. For the money spent here I expect a perfect cooked steak (hell Outback was better) and flawless execution. Maybe to folks who live up here think this is fine dining, but they would be wrong. Prices need to reflect where they are located and they quality of the food they put out. IMHO the prices need to be dialed back about 10 dollars per entire, and 5 per appy. If that were to happen, maybe I would give Stone Bar another chance. But at the current pricing, no way.

STAY AWAY!!! We visit the Poconos several times a year, and in April 2014, went to this place as it was recommended by a local. I will start with the good: The place has a nice cozy feeling, it is very dark, and it is not very big. That's it! We ordered the french onion soup and Caesar salad, both horrible. The soup tasted like it came from a box and they just melted a slice of cheese on top. the salad was soggy. We wanted steak, and decided on the steak for two. When the steak arrived, it was an 8oz steak (if that much) and we each had a side of mashed (a spoonfull) and carrots (again, like canned vegetables) we thought there must have been some mistake, since all steaks for two we have ever ordered have been big. The waitress informed us that the "for two" meant two sides but it was still with the steak for one in the menu. so, we asked for another steak for one. when they finally brought it out (after everything on the table was cold) the steak was raw even though I asked for it to be well done. and i mean, RAW. we asked that it be cooked longer, and she was back in 5 minutes this time, with the same exact raw piece of meat. So at this point we asked for the check, and just told her we would not be eating the steak (not asking her to take it off the bill, just to clear up and give us a check) at this point the "hostess" (who turns out is the owner) came over and asked what the trouble was. When we explained to her the situation, she basically told us that's the way the steak is served, and that we were "not in NY" I mean, she was not even nice. and here is the kicker, we left a $30 tip on a $150 bill and the owner chased us outside to find out why we left such as small tip!!!!! so 20% tip is not a good enough tip!!!, $180 total bill for a meal we didnt even eat, and she chased us outside to ask for a bigger tip. (maybe the waitresses only work on tips, but even so) Stay Away From this place, it looks nice, but the food sucks, the portions are tiny, and they have manhattan prices. And be wary of your tipping guidelines because they will chase you in the parking lot if the owner is not satisfied with the amount you leave.

Well, after a long hiatus due to work load we finally were able to go to the Stone Bar Inn. We couldn't wait as we hadn't been there for such a long time. Perhaps two years or more. Well, talk about a state of decline, we were so disappointed. We ordered the PEI mussels which were fair and not fresh. The fresh oysters were, well oysters! Nothing to rave about. The menu prices are in the NYC stratosphere. I find it hard to justify these prices as the overhead in New York is so much higher than it is here in the Poconos. They need to update the service ware and plates. They look like they're from a yard sale at the local penetentiary. Please upgrade the table settings. Beat up diners have better than that. Anyway, back to the food. Our entrees arrived. A full rack of lamb that looked like it had spent years in a freezer. It was not robust and pink like we remembered and certainly the size was nowhere near what we remembered. The pork chop was not worth even discussing here. What a shame! I guess some things change and not always for the better. We loved this place as we knew we were always assured of a good and exceptional meal. I guess the reviews and blogs are correct. I was hard-pressed to believe what I was reading as I can't ever remember having a bad meal here in the past. Boy things do change in a short span of time. The wine list is extraordinarily expensive as I know some of these wines and the markup should not be this high to cut a profit. A $5 wholesale price for a bottle of wine should not be selling for $46 on the menu. I just doesn't make good business sense. We passed on the desserts as we felt it would be a continuation of a bad dinner. Perhaps the patrons here are regulars and are used to this but I'm sure if they took a leave of absence, so to speak, and returned they'd be saying the same thing. It's a charming place with a unique atmostphere. I'm sorry we did not enjoy our meal and are very disappointed but now we have to start looking for an alternative. Maybe the owner or perhaps new owner will hear these reviews/blogs and do something about it. One thing I can say is that the service staff gets high marks. They were attentive, charming and completely personable. I give them high reviews and because of them they made the evening somewhat enjoyable. Had the food been up to par this would have been a memorable night and a reminder of our past experiences. If there are better restaurants out there feel free to write about them. I'd be happy to go there as I have now stricken Stone Bar Inn off my list.

Excellent meal, service and experience! Mandy waited on us and couldn't have been any nicer or informative, we will request her when we go back. Their wine list is priced on the high side so we went for liquor which was great because they have generous pours on drinks! The food was wonderful, veggies were perfectly done as well as my petit filet. Lamb rack was perfect as well. Mahi mahi was a little dry but the sauce was delicious. Absolutely one of the best dining experiences we've had in the Poconos and beyond. Can't wait to go back!

Wonderful meal! We just recently went here for dinner with my mother-in-law the Saturday after Christmas, to continue the holiday a bit. My M-I-L was thinking of taking us to the Stroudsmoor Inn, but on Saturdays they do a buffet, & she wanted a sit down, so she asked me to find something with an equivalent quality menu in the area. This was not an easy task in this neck of the woods....in my research I stumbled across the Stone Bar Inn. I read the reviews on Yelp, we were a little concerned, but we decided to take a chance & go for it. Well, are we ever glad we did! The restaurant looks as if it was just a bar many years ago, & someone bought it, perked it up a bit, & decided to offer a higher class menu then the surroundings would lead you to believe you could get there. By the way, the location IS in the middle of nowhere, plug it into your GPS and follow it precisely. The main room has a large gas fireplace, very intimate----on the lighting on the darker side, dark paneling & woodwork, booths on two sides of the room, tables in the middle, and a bar on the opposite side of the fireplace. You can also sit in the wine area (some tables seated downstairs near the wine racks, a quieter area). there is also a quieter room off the main room, & they have a Chef's Table in the kitchen if that's your thing. We were seated next to the fireplace, the place was decorated for the holidays, very cute. We had a wonderful waitress, super attentive, you can NOT complain about the service here. A note: this is not a restaurant for children, your child/teen either has to be very open to different foods and willing to try, or has grown up around more adult menus & is already used to it. We saw children & babies there, but just noting there are no specific menu items geared for children or poor eaters, no burgers, pizzas, sandwiches (there are steaks and a roasted chicken if your child can make do with that). So if you have a friend who only eats chicken fingers and french fries, this would not be the place to bring them, LOL. The bread brought to the table was fresh & warm. The salads were extremely crisp & well done. My husband & I decided to go with Chilean Sea Bass, one of our dining out faves, I went with the Miso Glaze with the Yuzu Cucumber dressing and he went with the lemon and gremolata. Both were stunning, firm and fresh. I couldn't stop eating the cucumbers on my fish, they were SO good. My M-I-L went with the Crab Cakes with the Creole Remoulade. She said she never had such delicious crab cakes, and the remoulade was a star. We kept dipping our forks in her sauce, we couldn't believe how tasty it was. The pièce de résistance of the table were the pork chops my son ordered. He chose them because he enjoys anything with bbq sauce, & he loves anything smoked, & he eats chops at home, so he felt it was a safe bet. Well, WOW WOW WOW! When the waitress lifted the lid off his plate, you were entranced with a big puff of hickory smoke trapped under the lid. Very fun. My son made it through his chop with two or three bites left, so I decided to take a taste & was blown away. I can no longer eat a pork chop from Shop Rite anymore.... :) These aren't just any pork chop, these are Kurobota (Berkshire) chops. Sort of like the Kobe of pork. Tender, juicy, melt in your mouth, slightly pink, everything you want a chop to be. foodrepublic.com/2013/01… A few comments about the dinner. The veggies (asparagus, carrots and a beet). have never been done better. Not soft, not hard, just the right tenderness and firmness, that each should be. We kept commenting on how delicious the asparagus was. And how good the beet was. The side of crab meat, kinda blah, maybe the only thing I found disappointing. It was fresh, but just blah. Needed a little salt or something, a little off. We had the gelato, to die for, & the bread pudding with apples, served in a carmelized brown sugar bowl - the raspberry sauce drizzled across the plate, I would drink from a coffee cup. And one other complaint, which really can't be helped, being that it is such an intimate place is that our table was right next to the kitchen door, so all night it swung open with waitstaff going in & out. It really bothered my M-I-L, I ignored it, knowing nothing could be done. If you are really sensitive to that, I suggest asking for a booth, & sitting inside of it so you are less aware, or go in the side room, or down by the wine. So two complaints, the crab, & the kitchen door. I also wrote this lengthy review in hopes of countering the less positive reviews. Nothing was dried out, nothing was sub par quality, I don't understand why some folks gave this place one or two stars. Read all reviews, with a grain of salt, I suggest you try it yourself and see. I think you will be very happy.

My boyfriend took me here for our 2 year anniversary dinner while vacationing at Camelback Mountain. He reserved us a table next the the fireplace. This was the cutest restaurant ever, all decorated for the holidays. What a gem! Our waitress Joanne was extremely friendly, helpful and went above and beyond adding that extra touch (putting 2 candles in our dessert). The drinks were delicious. The beer battered shrimp was eh, a bit mushy. French onion soup was delicious. Filet mignon was good, not like a good steakhouse and probably not worth the $$. The homemade bread was incredible. We ended up ordering a dessert even though we were stuffed. The 3 gelatos were great, but the brownie that came with it was very hard. Overall the food was good, not the best food we've ever had but the entire experience and atmosphere defiately made us leaving with big smiles on our face. If we ever make it back to the area I would love to go back for another romantic meal and order some different items.

Stone Bar is a distinctive comfort restaurant and bar which features a menu that reflects a world of culinary inspiration. Stone Bar offers contemporary American dishes like marbled center cuts steaks with Yukon Gold Potatoes and Bodelaise Glaze as well as Asian-inspired food, like crisp roast duckling with Thai spiced apricot sauce. Extraordinary pairings like Shrimp & Pumpkin Bisque and .Baked Brie in Filo with grilled sausage with apples and raspberry. Just a stone's throw from Sheridan Country Estates where we stayed, the Stone Bar sports lots of mahogany wood, Old world ceilings, a cozy bar and tranquil covers of Life Magazines for decoration. With its serene old world atmosphere and delightful menu, the restaurant welcomes guests for dinner, and late night. With fine dining surroundings and unmatched service, Chef Andrew Moore's venue delivers sumptuous dishes along with an unforgettable dining experience. Patrons are greeted by Carol Moore who makes makes everyone feel like they are her guest for dinner. The food is brought in fresh daily from all over the world, the price reflects the attention to detail. My wife and I had a wonderful time. The Stone Bar is a jewel of the Pocono's Mark S

Went for Easter Sunday and the appetizer and salad buffet was fantastic! They have a house made brie stuffed filo that is decadent. We had the fillet and the lamb, both were great. Sampled three desserts, apple crepe, creme caramel and the strawberry shortcake. I liked the caramel the best. If it was in NYC I'd most likely do 3 stars, but given its location and the competition, it's def a four. The Stone bar and Chop House are the best restaurants I have found in the Poconos in 10 years of owning here.
