Typically not a fan of chain restaurants, but I had a gift card so my daughter and I went for lunch. Our server, Kevin, was great. The soup, salad, and breadsticks were better than both of our lunches, so maybe stick with what they do best. My daughter tried the chicken parm sandwich and declared the breadstick bun, "not ready for the public." :-) Kevin was the star here and made our lunch very enjoyable.

When you walk in for your first time, you receive those famous bread sticks and dip them in their marinara sauce hoping to get a dollop on your wonderful appetizer. You then realize how watery the sauce is and forcefully start dipping and scooping the sauce, hoping to get more to satisfy your taste. It is then that your entree arrives and you begin to start noticing that you're eating more bread than your actual meal and get so full from it than what you had ordered. Moral of the story: you stuff yourself on free bread over your meal, every time.

4/23/2015 OG is a chain so I am reviewing it as such. They have great specials that change often as well as staples that remain. They do a good job of refreshing their menu items I would say at least yearly.Which is why it pained me to be away for so long because this particular one had never, ever gave me good service since it opened. It took a stop in at an OG in Buchanan, VA which was awesome to make me feel like retrying my local Springfield,PA OG So now I am back at my local Olive Garden at lunchtime for the first time in 3 years and I decide I want the filet I had in Virginia. No problem says my eager, competent waitress- Alexis as she presents me with the dinner menu when she delivers the perfectly filled salad bowl. I am excited about the salad bowl because when dining solo this OG had always given me low volume salad bowls and no one ever came back to ask if I wanted it refilled. Alexis made sure it was perfect without me even asking. When the Parmesan encrusted filet mignon arrived it was done just the way I requested. My meal was awesome and the service was excellent. I am happy to see the improved service at this OG.

So here is a review of an attempt to bring a party of 12 here for a birthday gathering on a Sunday night. I called ahead at 12, they took my info and I told them we'd be there at 6. I was instructed to call back at 5 to check on the wait. I did so, and was informed there would likely be some wait. We did arrive at 6, and they managed to seat us at 6:30. Then, they took beverage orders, but didn't take our food order until 7. We didn't see a morsel of food until 7:15 when salad and breadsticks showed up. Soup and some apps followed. Then, it was 7:50 when our entrees showed up. But, luck of the draw, they messed up my order. So I had to wait. To their credit, they rectified my order within 10 minutes. Which meant that in the end, I showed up at 6, and didn't really eat dinner until 8. I do not blame this on the wait staff totally as they worked extremely hard and were very accommodating. I get that it was busy. I get that we were a big party. But a lot more could have been done to manage our group in general. I put that on management. Food quality... About what I've come to expect from Olive Garden. Breadsticks and soup are wonderful. Apps are tasty. Entrees are hit or miss. I had one of the light and healthy options which wasn't bad, but you'd be bored with me talking about it. Once again, Olive Garden lived up to my exact expectations. Thankfully I set their bar low.

I know what people say about Olive Garden. They say it's too mass market; too "fake", etc. I'm not going to be so haughty. Here's what it comes down to - the food is good, and it's at a great price. I've been to some of the best Italian restaurants in the area - is Olive Garden as good as them? Of course not! But it doesn't need to be; it also costs 1/10 the price. As for the Springfield location, we've been here a few times and it's always been a positive experience. The lines look long, but they move quickly, we've never waited too long. The quality of service is actually very good for this type of restaurant. No complaints really. Good food, good price, good service. I don't really care if the hipsters think they're too good for it - I'll be back.

Terribly long wait for dinner. 1 hour wait for food after order on a slow day. Wait staff was great but the dinner was a long wait and terrible. The lasagna was only one layer and mozzarella cheese on the chicken for the Tour of Italy was not even melted. They clearly used shortcuts to prepare the meal but the shortcuts were also insufficient as it was still a long wait. I do not intend to ever frequent this restaurant again. This is not the first poor experience. We've given you more than one chance you have posted one other poor review. I posted a picture of the tour of Italy for you to see how flat the lasagna was and how unmelted the cheese was.

One of the better olive garden branches that I've been to. The soup and bread tasted nice and fresh and it was unlimited. For my meal I had ravioli which was good but the sauce was a little watery and didn't have enough flavor. Service was decent but nothing special. Overall the quality of the food was good and the price of the bill didn't put that big of a dent in my wallet.

Stopped in for lunch. Wasn't busy but took 20mins for someone to take order. Food was super slow to come out and it was soup salad and breadsticks!! Asked for water refill and got it 20minutes later. All tables in my area appeared to be having a similar experience. Will choose other lunch location in future!

I have been to this Olive Garden multiple times. Last night was the first time I actually ate in and didn't get to go. The staff was friendly but tired. Some minor things were missed. The issue for me was that the salad I shared with my wife and daughter yielded gastrointestinal distress. I could care less if it just happened to me but my 3 year old having diarrhea is unacceptable. Toddlers are especially prone to dehydration and electrolyte losses when they experience diarrhea. You may be asking yourself how do you know it was the salad from Olive Garden or the meal from Olive Garden in general? The answer is the food consumed by my family were from different sources. My wife cooked breakfast and lunch for herself and my daughter while I was at work. I had cereal and and protein bar at lunch but had to skip lunch because I was busy. My recommendation to other patrons is to skip the salad and to the staff is to please wash hands and be watchful of food storage guidelines regardless of fatigue. Work quality may slip when fatigued but imagine if a pilot or doctor was making mistakes during flight and surgery.

Came in on a Thursday night and waited 40 minutes to get a table and then another 20 waiting at the table before we even got waters. Our waitress apologized but was extremely inattentive throughout the night. I will be reluctant to go to this Olive Garden again.

This particular location is very hit or miss. Sometimes you'll get a server who is on point; drinks in a timely manner, nothing wrong with your meal and you get your check without having to wait 15-20 minutes. Other times your drinks take forever, your entrée comes out while you're still eating your appetizer and you get stuck with a waiter that you can barely understand. Nothing special. That gnocchi soup though, that's what'll keep you coming back.

We have been to this Olive Garden several times over the past year or two, and found it to be - as some chains can go - consistently good food and great service. We've never had to wait too long for a table, which for an Olive Garden, is a huge endorsement. We always start with the salad and bread sticks...bread sticks are warm, garlicky and fluffy. And the salad is always dressed to perfection - not too much, not too little. Last time we were there, we ordered off of the specials menu (the one with the pictures!) We got the stuffed chicken marsala and the steak gorgonzola alfredo. The entrees came out within a few minutes of us polishing off our second bowl of salad. I am lucky that I have a boyfriend who likes to share, because I got to eat some of each and experienced all that the crispy chicken marsala and tender cheese topped steak had to offer. Our server last time was quick and made good conversation while at our table, and I remember our past servers having equal skill and ease. Though Olive Garden is not my first choice for Italian dining in the Philly area, if you're looking for unlimited salad and bread sticks (and a good meal to follow), then you might be headed in the right direction!

This might be the worse Olive Garden ever! They are slow and inconsiderate. The service sucks, the food is always and consistently cold and they are constantly out of food or they "just dumped it". The wait staff is more interested in "who did what with whom" then the guests. They do not even bring you the correct order. Do yourself a favor and go to another restaurant!

Very disappointing! I used to love coming to this location instead of the one on City Ave, however, our service last week had a lot to be desired. Our server was sloppily dressed and not well groomed; his order taking and presenting could have been better, and then he brought the bill and just flopped it on the table. Tip reflected service; it will be awhile before returning.

Imagine being tempted by Olive Garden commercials every day. Now, imagine there is no actual Olive Garden in your area for you to fulfill these temptations. Yep, story of my life. Since Hawai'i has no Olive Gardens, you can imagine my excitement upon finding out there was one down the street from my sister-in-law's house. Ambiance was pretty standard and the hostesses were pleasant enough. My bf and I decided on the 2 for $25, which is not a bad deal for an appetizer or dessert, soup or salad, breadsticks, and 2 entrees. The food was pretty good, just as I had expected, but the service was the real killer. Our waitress was clearly bored out of her mind (it was a slow night since it was the day after Christmas) so you'd think she'd appreciate the distraction of customers but nope, she made me feel like we were intruding on her personal time. She regurgitated the typical spiel in a monotone voice and looked annoyed that we ordered the 2 for $25 and not separate entrees. She brought out the food and then never came back until the end of the meal then she made a big stink about putting our leftovers in the box, which I could've done myself. Without the attitude. Ugh. Customer service is a big deal for me. I've worked in retail for years, I know how to treat people (especially those who are giving you money!) and this location just didn't meet my standards. I'd rather brave the parking nightmare that is the downtown Philadelphia location than spend an entire meal, feeling like we were inconveniencing our waitress.

This was my first time dining in at this Olive Garden. I've ordered to go years ago. We were seated immediately, but it took at least 30-45 minutes for our server to come to our table. When we were finally attended to, it was by a manager offering her sincerest apologies about the delay in service. She gave us a free appetizer. I ordered their new mozzarella chicken pasta, and I must say I was not pleased. Even with a thick blanket of grated cheese, salt, and pepper, this dish was dissatisfying, and completely tasteless. I picked out the chicken, and the red peppers and left the penne pasta.

The service is ALWAYS horrible. It starts out ok but once you get your dinner you don't see your waiter again. I think the wait staff's tables are scattered around and not just in one section so they are running all over and take forever to get back. When the waiter brought out my salad and my dads soup, I asked for more dressing and he asked for hot pepper, by the time the waiter got back with it we had long finished eating it. We got the 2 for $25. I ordered Chicken Alfredo and when I finally got it it looked like it had been sitting under the heat lamp too long and the fettuccini was hard and dry and the chicken was so over cooked. It was not eatable and I wanted to send it back but we didn't see the waiter again until about 10 min after my dad finished his dinner. I didn't want to wait for another meal and we had been there for such a long time already, I told them to take it off the bill and wrap the dessert and give us the check before the waiter disappears again so we could get out of there. I decided I won't go back. The only reason I gave 2 stars instead of 1 is because they did take my meal off the bill.

I've been to this Olive Garden many times but last night was definitely the best. It was a little busy and the waitress we had, we could tell, had a lot of tables but she was very speedy and attentive. We did wait a good amount of time for our food but the waitress made sure we had all our drinks and was bringing out breadsticks left and right. She even went as far as to give us a free piece of pumpkin cheesecake on the house because of our patience. The food was very good and hot from our appetIzers to our dinners. Just have to thank Jenny (if that's how you spell it) she really was awesome and we appreciated everything!

Nothing great about this place, typical chain. Very load at peak times that's for sure. Just so happened to run out of bread sticks tonight so instead we were given slices of extremely hard bread with some sort of butter/garlic/salt mixture doused on each slice. Stick to the basic chicken parm if you don't want to be disappointed.

Olive Garden is one of those restaurants that is a 'good' chain restaurant. We get good service and the food is good and hot. If there is ever a problem, a manager comes right over and rectifies the situation. Well this particular Olive Garden restaurant was horrible. My husband and I stopped in for a bite to eat on Thursday, May 15th after a meeting. It was around 8:15pm or so. The waitress that waited on us was very pleasant, but had on a filthy uniform. My husband ordered the 'mixed grill' which is suppose to be skewered steak and chicken. Along with that he asked for baked potato and sauteed spinach. When his meal came out, it had mashed potatoes pieces of meat (not on a skewer) and raw spinach on his plate. If you could have seen the look on his face, he thought he was being punk'd. When he said that he ordered the mixed grill and not medallions of steak, he was informed by the wait-staff that this is how they do the mixed grill now, they don't cook them on skewers anymore. Well then it shouldn't be on the menu that way. The meat was over cooked to the point of being burnt and when he asked why the spinach was not cooked, the waitress informed him that sometime people like their spinach raw. He doesn't mind raw spinach in a salad, but he did ask for sauteed spinach, which the last time I checked was cooked. He sent that meal back and asked for the spaghetti and meatballs. By now I've started eating the parmesan baked shrimp which was pretty good (hence the 2 stars instead of 1). When the spaghetti and meatballs came out the noodles were over cooked and mushy and the two meatballs were so small you had to send a search party to look for them. During all this time not once did the manager come over and say anything to us. As we were leaving another couple was complaining about the service and the food and how they had to send their food back also. And again, no manager came to their table either. I can't really see this Olive Garden surviving in Springfield if they don't straighten up. There are too many other places to eat on Baltimore Pike that give good service and good food for basically the same price.

We cam in at 10:40 when they closed at 11pm. They sat us and it took a while to get our order in, but I think it was a miscommunication with the hosts. The waiter was excellent and very polite. Service was efficient without rushing. Timing was very good. My friend ordered ice tea, but they had already dumped the pot for the night, no big deal. The manager was very appologetic. Bread sticks and soup were hot and tasted as fresh as any other time. Knowing the food isn't prepared from scratch on premises I completely know what to expect and the Olive Garden Italian Restaurant delivered. I ordered the Shrimp Mezzaluna and enjoyed it the next day. Exactly what I needed. The bill came and I asked the ice tea to be removed, it was, and we left very satisfied! Efficient, friendly, and consistent. It would be hard to make the Olive Garden Italian Restaurant much better without upsetting the general public!!

This used to be our favorite place to go and honestly it's just gone downhill. Terrible service everytime. Something is always wrong with our order. We pay 12$ for a bowl of pasta and get maybe 20 noodles. It's just ridiculous.. We would much rather go to carrabbas at the mall. Much better food and service. We usually retry Olive Garden every 3 months or so... And never improves. We went last night for my husbands birthday and it was just awful. I actually felt guilty for taking him there. One thing that insulted me, we went with my husbands mother and his grandfather. When the waitress came and offered wine- her exact words were "would the adults at the table like a sample?" And looked at just those two and when they said no she tucked it under her arm and than asked what we would like. I am much older than 21 and the fact that we were completely ignored just shocked me.

Came today with my bf's little brother..All was good. Until my food came out. Ordered lasagna fritti or whatever it was called and came out wayyy over done. What screwed me up was the waitress even TOLD ME and said it was overcooked and that if I can't eat it just say so and she'd get me another one. First of all, they shouldn't even have brought the plate out with it burnt. I couldn't even stick my fork in it. Manager came over and said sorry it wasn't even supposed to be my plate of food. Whatever. I just let it go. I love this place but that was just dumb.

I had a nice dinner with some family here on a Saturday night recently. The food and service were good and there were no problems. You usually know what you're getting when you go to a place like Olive Garden so my concern is usually how it's run and how clean it is. The manager was walking around checking on how everyone's meals were going which is nice in case there's any problems, then I go to the restroom later and he's in there cleaning the sinks and toilets. For me that's a big deal cause it probably means the kitchen is being run properly and clean and it makes me want to go back.

Service was good and that is where the positives ended. Pasta for the ravioli was overcooked and the meat sauce was enyirely too salty. The pasta fagioli was oily and not hot. The ambiance was terrible. The carpets are old and worn. This is not a good place to eat.

Came today with my mother and her friend family and I dislike their service and the food. They were slow and they gave us the wrong menu. Then they took the orders. Orders came out but a few others food did not come out. They took 15 mins to bring the order out .I order the chicken Alfredo and it was completely dry and pasta had no taste. My mother order the chicken.scampi and it was dry and tasteless. The other family food same as Alfredo sauce was full of cheese and not creamy.Bad experience and bad food. STAY AWAY

Third visit. First two visits were okay but this last visit was horrible. It took them over 90 minutes to bring our food. Even though they completely gave us the meal free, when it arrived mine was cold and my Aunt's was lukewarm. Why make someone wait for cold food? We will not be returning. Time to find a new Olive Garden.

I went here for dinner, and luckily arrived early and was seated immediately. Our waitress was exceptionally hospitable at first, but progressively got slower with service. I got the cheese ravioli, and was not pleased with it. Other entrees were unusually dry. Once it came time to pay, after given our check, we didn't see our waitress for 15 minutes. After giving our check to her and waiting for change, we had to get up and go to the front counter to ask to get change and leave... Marinara sauce is all they have available for my entree besides meat sauce, and it was just chucks of tomatoes. I am very picky about Italian food, and this just didn't cut it

Ugh... I can't believe anyone would wait over 30 minutes for a mediocre meal and crappy service. Well I did last night at the Springfield OG. When I asked the hostess what was taking so long (because people were being seated left and right while our party of 7 kept waiting") she told me "the bussers were just taking a long time today". While we sat there I noticed a napkin on the floor that servers were literally walking over for a solid 10 minutes. The floor was disgusting and the wine glasses on the table were spotted. Our waitress was very sweet, but not pushy enough to talk over an Italian family. Boo Springfield Olive Garden. I will NOT be back.

This is a new Olive Garden, No. 1764 in the chain. It stands in a shopping mall and within easy walking distance of Barnes and Noble and Starbucks, but in that part of the Philadelphia suburbs, people drive a quarter of a mile in the parking lot so they can drive a quarter mile to the next parking lot and then walk another quarter mile to the nearest place... Oy!... Anyway, for a chain suburban restaurant, I was positively impressed. The waiter came over with a free tasting of their Italian Rosso which was too sweet for me and my BF. So we transitioned to Pinot Noir. My salmon with broccoli was actually very good. The salmon wasn't overcooked as I would have expected in a chain. My BF had the tortellini which came in a mushroom sauce with Chernobyl-sized shrooms. And The broccoli was actually really good! Lotsa bread, lotsa wine, and a good time. Very good experience.

It's a regular olive garder, not better, no less. Their take out area is efficient and I have never had a problem w/ service. They have a Kahlua martina that is awesome! Everything else, is standard. Oh, and the mangers always seem to come up to speak at the tables. Nice touch.

I have dined here twice. Neither time did we get into the restaurant; however, the first time the bar was quite average. We had a decent pasta dish, the salad was fine. Tonight we waited 1:15 minutes and received only the salad. Agreed, the place was quite busy at 7, but quickly cleared. For the next hour, the only service we received was from the manager Jackie, who tried hard to get us food. We never got served the pizza nor the pasts dish. We likely won't return any time on the weekend. They cannot handle the business.

    (1)
  • J F.

Service now is nothing like the opening week. At that time, there were wait staff lined up against the wall and dressed formally. I suppose this is how the corporation opens up a new store. It was a little bit overkill since my table was asked around five times as to the quality of the dinner. Since then, the service has been mostly good, but, from time to time, you get the disgruntled employee who could really care less if you need a refill or if you are pleased with your meal. I guess that's at a lot of places, though. Be forewarned that the lines here can snake out the door. Come early if you want to avoid them. I enjoy many of the items on the menu: calamari, mixed grill, and the never ending pasta bowl. It's worth a try.

  • Bruiser H.

I like the Olive Garden. The Pasta Fagioli soup and breadsticks are great. I don't know how authentic the 'Italian' cooking is, as they hardly use any garlic, but I enjoy the food and the service is fast. The Springfield location is often quite crowded and the wait can be long on the weekends, and at night, so plan accordingly. I love to take the kids there for a good dinner during the week, then have the leftovers for breakfast the next day. Plus, if you fill up on the free soup and breadsticks, there is just that much more to take home.

Garbage. This is by far the worst Italian food on the planet. The breadsticks are ok. I have no beef with you breadsticks. But F everything else about the OG. I loathe this chain and cringe whenever i hear the name.

This place should be condemned. If I could have given it no stars, I would have. As a matter of fact, even writing a bad review seems like I am doing the Olive Garden a favor. Anyone who eats here that is between the ages of 17 and 74 should have their tongue removed with a pair of rusted tongs, since its clear they don't use it anyway.

We went there for dinner, and when our food came out a mouse fell from the food tray and rolled around on the ground. The server delivering food quickly got a manager to remove the mouse. Neither the servers nor the manager apologized. When we asked the server why the staff pretended like nothing happened, he said he brought the issue up to the manager, but the manager did not want to talk to us. Eventually the manager came over, explained that mice are a problem "for all businesses in the area," and comped our meal, but he never said SORRY.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
