We stopped at the Franconia Cafe for a quick breakfast on our way to Lancaster. The waitress came right over took our order and brought us coffee. 45minutes later and 10 trips past us with the coffee pot, we still had no breakfast or coffee refills.. I asked our server if the kitchen had forgotten us, and she stated (with areal attitude) that "couldn't I see that the restaurant was packed? The kitchen was backed up" I then asked if we could have more coffee. The waitress brought the coffee said nothing and then went into the kitchen to complain about us .I could see her doing that thru the window. I waitressed for many years and a slow kitchen meant you gave your customers more coffee and apologies, not attitude. 15 minutes later, our breakfast arrived, along with the check. One hour to get eggs and toast, and a snotty attitude. The waitress never returned, never asked us if we wanted anything else. I was dying for a glass of water. I will cross this place off my list.

Great place to get a good breakfast or lunch - warm, friendly atmosphere - like a 'local diner'.

Very affordable, casual, kid friendly diner type restaurant with a wide variety of food selections for breakfast and lunch. Sure, the place could use a makeover, not exactly the most up to date décor, but the place is clean and always busy. The staff is friendly. A good place to meet family or friends for an inexpensive breakfast or lunch. The pancakes are good, the hamburgers, fries are good as well. Good LOCAL spot.

I've been a long time fan at Franconia, but unfortunately it's over priced and there's always a long wait to get seated.

I often come here for lunch and get breakfast for lunch. Food and service is very inconsistent. Sometimes we have great, friendly, service and other times we have rude waitresses (and snotty cashiers) Sometimes we get our food right away and sometimes it takes forever. The hash browns (shredded or cubed) are both gross. They need to make homemade homefries and stick with that. I think they changed this up with the new ownership. Also, please don't burn my toast, and if you do - make me more - don't serve it to me. I'm usually happy with my meal, although one time I ordered a chicken salad sandwich and the chicken was bad! That was the worst. The current hostess is very nice and I like her a lot.

I'm not going to lie. This place is pretty gross. With the old, cheesey decor and being the only person under 60 there, I felt like I was dining in a retirement home. The service is good and prompt - no complaints there. The food was really bad, I have to say. I started to worry when many things on the menu were between $1-$3; I guess the saying is true "you get what you pay for." I ended up ordering french toast and hash browns - both not fresh, but frozen. It didn't even taste like french toast. I can't describe it - it just...wasn't good. I took about four forced bites before I had to stop eating. Needless to say, the food ended up in the trash. Will not repeat...even if it was the last restuarant on earth and I was starving.

As a local, I feel the energy station has gone down a little so I came to Franconia Square because someone told me they had great breakfast. Unfortunately, I could not draw that same conclusion from my experience. I try to eat healthy, locally grown, organic foods. I suppose I assumed, because where I was geographically, I could expect some local farmy freshness. What I got was the opposite. I ordered the fruit cup first, which was canned peaches, pineapples and grapes sitting in the can juice. I could've bought that at Wal-Mart for 99 cents. I also ordered a veggie omelet with hash browns. The shredded potatoes were definitely of the bagged frozen variety. Maybe Costco, but again, probably Wal-Mart. Overall, nothing was fresh, and this was the first time I left a restaurant still hungry and feeling robbed. Besides the food, the service was not bad and the people were friendly.

The Franconia area has about 1.5 bars, and of them there doesn't exist much of a neighborhood "Cheers"-like hangout for the locals to frequent at night. However, the Franconia Square Cafe & Market proudly takes up the duty of providing a warm place for the locals to gather and exchange gossip, debate the news--"Now did ya hear they're tryin'a put up a stoplight at Morwood 'n' Cowpath?!?!"--or just catch up on old relationships. The staff is super friendly, with Emma leading by example. They're also usually super busy, as the place is quite often packed, but they'll still find a way to chat and make you feel at home as they buzz around with coffee pots in hand to refill every empty coffee cup in sight. The Franconia Square Cafe is the type of place that you'd enjoy even if the food sucked. Thankfully, the food is quite delicious. The Franconia Square Cafe is open for breakfast and lunch and covers most of the essentials for those meals. For breakfast they offer excellent omelettes, the tasty "Mix It Up", flapjacks, etc.... it's tough to go wrong. Just remember to get a side of delightful scrapple with apple butter! If you are craving a burger or sandwich, they can certainly meet your needs as well, but Franconia Square Cafe really nail the breakfast staples so I'd recommend going that route. The Franconia Square Cafe is just one of those simple, homey restaurants that's tough not to adore because they make such a great effort at making one feel a part of the family and offer quality food at an affordable price.
