True to what it is, a roadside diner. In-the-box diner fare. Our breakfast items - scrambles and omelets - were made with fresh ingredients, not greasy. But we did make a new discovery - Scrapple, described by our server as, "fried pork product mixed with cornmeal" - of course we had to try it. Kind of looked like brown Spam. Apparently in PA you top it with syrup. It tasted exactly like I would expect something described as "product" to taste. Now we know we can live without it. Service was very friendly.

For what it is, a quaint diner with fast friendly service and good food, this is definitely a 5 star place. Service was GREAT (and really friendly) Food was really good. Prices were reasonable.

Someone put a lot of love and care into making this place retro yet not run down. It's an adorable fifties diner with a pleasant staff. The syrup in the pancakes was great. They even sell it. I was stuffed after a short stack with two eggs. The coffee was nothing fancy, but I was at a diner and was expecting diner coffee anyway. They kept offering refills and I kept accepting.

Absolutely incredibly good breakfast. The fresh sausage is seasoned perfectly, you can still taste the meat. Good bacon. The home fries are fresh-cut potatoes and taste like it. Eggs cooked perfectly. Great service and very reasonable prices - my wife and I both had breakfast for $10.16 and it was all we could do to finish it. We'll be back.

Family favorites: Goober Burger & Jakenator. Great diner food at great prices. My hometown is Somerset and when visiting we always stop and eat at the Sumit Diner. Gob Cake is a treat.

Something has changed recently with the food. Maybe a different supplier? Previously, this was ALWAYS a FIVE STAR! No more. I recently ate here with my wife. The food tasted different, not as good. I had hot roast beef, my wife chicken. We both agreed that the same meals we had experienced in the past did not taste near as good. A week later, my parents visited and said the same. Both of them had their favorite meals and also said the food had gone downhill. Does anyone know what changed? Go back to your old way of cooking or we will not be back!

We were excited to try it after reading reviews from other yelpers. Love to support local restaurants but unfortunately, we thought it was just okay. Atmosphere is typical cute diner with very friendly wait staff. Our food is the the part that was disappointing. The home fries and roast beef were highly recommended... The roast beef was stringy and tough and the home fries had potential but needed to be seasoned a little more. The food network will be featuring their gob cake so we really wanted to try it.... Extremely disappointed, all 6 of us tried it and no one liked it at all... and we are sweet lovers. It was dry, tasted like the refrigerator... No one finished it, couldn't. Hamburgers were good, fries were fresh cut which is always good. The lemon meringue pie tasted fake, if that's possible, we couldn't finish that either. Sorry summit diner we really wanted to like you but just didn't...

Doesn't look at all what it does outside. Beautiful interior. Great people. Great food. I left with a happy stomach!

I'm a sucker for railway car diners. Passing through on a Sunday 2pm-ish. Contrary to the info on google, they WERE open. My girl and I sat at the counter, and ordered breakfast. That done, I quickly went to the jukebox, sunk $2 in it, and our food arrived as I selected my 6th and final tune. Very busy when we got there, it quieted by the time we were done. I was then able to ask our server if she knew the person who had put so much loving care into the selections available on the CD jukebox. "Yeah, My Mother." I heard that same girl call another lady who'd been circulating either "Gran" or "Gram." I was very taken with the place, it was a welcomed oasis on a pretty taxing drive from Indiana to NYC. I see too many of these great old diners suffering from the neglect of owners, or worse yet, their communities. Glad to see The Summit bucking the trend - thank you so much!

From the looks of the outside of this diner, I was hoping for something a little more remarkable. Unfortunately, it turned out to be a very standard run-of-the-mill diner. If that's what you're looking for, you won't be disappointed. It is a little sad, however, that they sell real maple syrup behind the counter, but will only give you flavored corn syrup on your pancakes. Oh well.

I found this diner while taking my family on a camping trip- WOW, food is wonderful. Good old fashioned cooking with a good variety. My wife's family owned a diner in greensburg back in the 80's were she worked and ate and I have to say that this place reminds me of home. If your ever in the area and want a place to eat with great food and affordable prices, this is it !!!!

Typical diner fare. Tasty and inexpensive. Wide selection of delicious pies. Would return if in area again.

I grew up in Somerset County.. I've seen the transformation of the summit diner. It WAS my favorite place to eat and hang out at, when I was in high school and I longed to come home from college to come back and have their awesome homemade pancakes and pies.. YUMMM.. HOWEVER, the person who bought it and gutted it, then remodeled it.. RUINED it. I cried when I came back to find the old jukeboxes taken out and replaced with flat screen tvs and the nostalgic decor replaced with black pho-leather and flimsy aluminum blinds. The food was typical diner food. It was tasty, greasy and good. The pancakes that I loved are gone, they are no longer melt in your mouth tasty.. RIP Summit.

Only had the graham cracker pie, but that alone was worth the trip. Great environment, with frequent classic car shows fittingly hosted behind this 50s era diner.

We were driving up to Buffalo, taking the scenic route and decided to stop here for a late lunch. I had the hot roast beef sandwich - delicious, especially the real mashed potatoes and there was plenty of gravy. My dad had the rueben which was also excellent, and my grandma had the grilled ham and cheese which she greatly enjoyed. We decided to have something sweet afterwards and had a piece of peach pie. It was only ok, thus the four stars. Service however was excellent, our waitress was incredibly attentive.

Cool diner atmosphere! Great, friendly service, and the prices can't be beat!

Old school diner so has potential. No big stand outs on typical diner menu. Pies were just awful. Won't be returning which is a shame as we drive through this area in route to Pittsburgh and would love good place to stop. Unfortunately the Summit Diner is not the place to stop.

  • Matt P.

I'm fairly undiscriminating when it comes to diners, but even by those standards this place was just average. The breakfast food was mediocre and the portions not large.

  • M M.

It's back to the future here. $4.99 for a turkey club? What a bargain!

    Good breakfast. Very "dinery".

We recently stopped in for dinner on our way from Philly to Chicago. Boy, were we lucky!! This place is great. They have an in house butcher and I ordered the mushroom swiss burger which came with grilled onions and bacon. This was probably the best bacon I have ever eaten and the burger, although thin was absolutely delish! My husband had the hot roast beef sandwich with homemade mashed potatoes. And the pie. . . WOW. Homemade apple and lemon meringue. Very reasonable prices and good, friendly service. This is a real winner!!!

Easter Sunday, traveling home, not much open but we found this gem. Service was delightful, food good, dessert was amazing (burnt sugar cake). Don't usually repeat when traveling, but could make an exception for this one.

  • Rob E.

This place is awesome. The Cindy Sue burger is incredible. Becky is a great server. Fast, clean, just a great off-the-turnpike place. STOP HERE! I am hitting them for a Jake'inator on my way back home from Pittsburgh!

My family and I stopped at Summit Diner this past weekend to avoid more PA Turnpike food. We opted for a diner, because diner service is usually very quick, and we had two hungry children, ages 2 and 5. The diner is right off the Turnpike, it seemed clean, the staff was friendly, and prices were great, but the service was very slow. It took close to 30 minutes to get our food, which was just standard lunch fare (and the diner was in no way crowded). The food was good, diner quality food, but the bacon and french fries really stood out as being excellent. I highly recommend anything with bacon involved. Also note that scrapple is on the menu, which I think is a plus, because that's nearly impossible to find in Western PA. Two stars for service, four for food quality. I have to go neutral on the kid-friendliness, based on the wait and no crayons/coloring place mats, but they did have high chairs, kid-sized cups with lids and the noise level is kid friendly.

First diner I've ever been to. Not bad, food was decent, prices weren't bad.

  • Sal G.

Man, I love Pittsburgh. We hit this place on our way out and it was pretty darn good.. everything I could have hoped for from a diner off the side of the road. Friendly staff served up our cheap diner food fast. One thing- what the hell is scrapple? Out of curiosity, I decided to order it. The creator of scrapple might want to reconsider a few things-- 1) appearance. 2) consistency. 3) taste. Well, I wasn't going to bitch out of eating like the locals do, so I covered my scrapple in maple syrup and made the best of it. I'll just be sure to steer clear of the Wikipedia article, presumably siting the random meat parts (or scraps??) that have been pureed and processed into the loaf-like slabs I ate that day.

This place is awesome!! The service was outstanding. Our waitress was very friendly an warm! The food was also great! Good size portions! We were so full but the food was so good we filled ourselves. Definitely stop by if it's on your way out of penn!

  • Tessa M.

Like many, I stopped by this place late night in the midst of a road trip. My meal itself was good, although the jalapeño burger was a little small. Then again, it only cost around five dollars, so I wasn't expecting a huge portion. My sister's salad (something with apples in it) was really good, not to mention huge. For dessert we tried the coconut cream pie, which was homemade and excellent. Our waitress was very friendly and fast. Overall good experience!

We stopped at the Somerset Diner for dinner during a long cross-country haul. The food was okay, and the service was excellent. Somerset Diner has a reasonable menu. Of course, they serve breakfast all day. Jane had one of the breakfast platters and enjoyed it. She had an ample serving. I had the meatloaf, which comes with two sides. I ordered extra mashed potatoes. The meatloaf was kind of blah, and the gravy was okay. The cole slaw was excellent, but the potatoes seemed like they came from a box. The kids had a hamburger and Kraft Mac & Cheese (the mac & cheese is represented as Kraft Mac & Cheese on the menu, so no surprises there). I tasted the burger--it was actually pretty good. In the end, the food was hit-or-miss. The building is built to look like a diner--lots of shiny stainless steel inside and out, plenty of booth seating and a lunch counter. Everything was immaculately clean. Since it was relatively late at night ((I don't remember exactly what time, say 8 or 9) during the holiday week, the diner was pretty empty. We sat down right away, and the server was attentive, although he did not know what one of the menu items (scrapple) was. Overall, Somerset Diner is not a destination restaurant. It was fine late at night when we were hungry and tired from travelling. Next time we stop in Somerset, we will try something else.

In the area on a whim and the summit was within walking distance and on the outside it promised to be everything a diner should be - inside kept the promise - the decor was classic and vintage diner - the food was great - a butcher in house and everything was homemade - real mashed potatoes - I had the chicken salad - with walnut - cranberry and blue cheese - warm fresh chicken - yum yum yum. My friend had the hot roast beef with real mashed potatoes - loved it. Also shared a Hugh slice of Graham cracker pie - Hugh selection of fresh pies. Returned for breakfast the next day - the place is great - get of the turnpike and try it.

I was just passing through Somerset for the night and wanted some good late night eats, so after a Google search I stumbled upon this diner which was down the street from my hotel. It seemed like a late night haunt for the locals. I had the special of the night: Kielbasa and kraut with mashed potatoes and a root beer float. The meal was pretty good and the price wasn't bad at all, coming out to around $8.00. I was a little disappointed with the wait staff though, with mostly what looked like high school girls that were spread too thin. I waited a lot to ask for a glass of water and for my check, and I heard the head waitress talking to the girl that was my server that I've been waiting for the check (must have made it obvious because I had my coat on). It wasn't bad but it wasn't stellar either.

I stopped here for breakfast with my wife on Saturday morning before continuing our little trip to Ligonier for Fort Ligonier Days celebration. We were attracted to the neat and tradional appearance of the diner. Inside appearance was consistent with the outside, a very attractive, traditional diner. The service was fast and friendly. Portions were generous. My omelette was a bit dry and also a bit salty for my taste, but otherwise good. My wife enjoyed her eggs and sausage patties. The diner was busy - apparently popular with local folk. I am glad I stopped and would return again if I find myself in Somerset.

Rolled in to the motel next door late at night. Looked out our room's back window and saw this diner shining in the distance like it was the Ark of the Covenant. What a tasty breakfast the next morning! This place was so cool and the omelettes were so tasty that we were telling people about it days and 100s of miles afterwards. I don't pass through Somerset often (that was my first time), but when I do, I'll be coming here for food.

Learned about this from "Road Ahead". Stopped just off the interstate - very convenient. Great diner atmosphere. Started with the fried green beans, which were great, and I don't usually eat fried food. I had the turkey ruben. Very good. Real sliced turkey, not processed stuff. Hubby had the liver & onions, just to bother me. He ate every bite. Great service, until it was time for our bill. Had to start heading out the door in order to pay.

I am originally from Somerset PA and have grown up around this place under various managers. It has never been good, up to as recently as today when my mother convinced me to give it another shot after several years away. When I went in and asked for a booth, one of the servers rudely snapped, you're gonna have to wait. After they cleaned off the table and were seated, I ordered a shake but told her to bring it out whenever she had a chance (I waitressed for several years and know shakes are a huge time suck), to which she replied, yeah, that's gonna be a while, and stormed off. I ordered fries which were decent, but one in my party ordered the SOS and chocolate milk and after a bit was so sickened she actually threw up. Another also ordered the chocolate milk and became queasy so I'm wondering if it wasn't the milk that made them ill. There is nothing special about this place unless you want mediocre food served by surly waitresses who seem to think their patrons are huge inconveniences. I am still astonished at the complete lack of customer service. Some things never change, I guess!

We stopped in here for dinner based on earlier reviews and didn't regret it. I had a steak and cheese sandwich, and they're serious about the butcher on site. The serving sizes were more than ample (the club sandwich was huge), and everything was tasty. We liked it so much that we skipped the complimentary continental breakfast at our hotel the next morning to get breakfast here. Homemade sausage and chipped beef on toast. Mmmm mmmmm good.

As Far as small town diners go, this deserves 5 stars. Homemade soup and blackberry pie made with berries from a local Farm. Listen to the locals chat with each other. Screw all the fast food stops around it. The husband and I like to support places like This and, frankly, so should you. Will be Returning!

We stayed at a motel adjacent to Exit 110 from the Pennsylvania Turnpike. Looking for breakfast at 9:30 am, we found this was the only place nearby open to serve breakfast. Located in a 50's looking stainless steel diner building. Opens at 5 am, and open till 10 pm weekdays, 11 pm weekends. My wife had the oatmeal. She said it was thick, well-textured and appeared to be house-made, rather than instant. She was very pleased. I had a western omelette. The key to a good western omelette, in my opinion, is to have the onions, peppers and ham well sauteed before they go into the omelet pan. That's what was done here, so it gets a high rating in my book. Served with your choice of white or wheat toast. They have a take-out menu also. Coffee was OK. Quick service from friendly staff, one of whom informed a customer (a person she clearly knew) that his friend's having twins did not concern her (the server) because she had one, that was sufficient, and she was now abstinent. Only in a small town! Recommended.

This place is what being a Diner is all about. I love it. Really tasty food for dirt cheap. The omelets are great. This place is definitely not fancy, just good simple food.

Nice little local place. All that was open at 9 PM so I was cautious. Got the black and bleu burger. Was very good. Not a huge menu like many diners but what the do, they do well. Friendly staff and locals too.

When u walk in u feel like Ur back in the 60's. Nice people. Great service. We ordered breakfast. Wow. Good portions. Great flavor. U must try sausage. Ground fresh and burgers as well. Everything was perfect. A must for breakfast.

Classic PA diner with everything you'd expect - slabs of stainless covering the outside; friendly waitresses, a jukebox, and a case full of mile-high pies inside. Breakfast, burgers, meatloaf, and milkshakes on the menu. I went with a Good Morning burger, topped with bacon and an over-easy egg. You can get just the burger for less than $5, or around $8 with fries and coleslaw on the side. Greatest burger ever? No, but for the price, it was pretty darn good. The fries are fresh-cut as well, which is a plus. Service was friendly, though the place wasn't very busy on the Wednesday evening we were there. Definitely a locals/regulars type of hangout for sure. Four of us ate for around $40 + tip, which is hard to beat. Worth a try if you're in the area.

Pretty decent dinner food. Good quality burgers and sandwiches. Blah blah blah. Blah blah blah. Blah blah blah. Blah blah blah. Blah blah blah. Blah blah blah. Siri is great at this. Blah blah blah. Blah blah blah.

  • Stephanie R.

Looks like a dive from the outside, but sweet, vintage and clean on the inside. Service was personable and expert. We all loved the recommendations our waitress made: hot turkey sandwich, hot roast beef sandwich, and the reuben ("best I've ever had"). Lemon merengue and coconut cream pie were undeniable. One suggested improvement: the restrooms.

  • Nathan H.

Food was very tasty. Had the western breakfast. Basically the breakfast special piled on top of each other with some mushrooms peppers and onions. It was a bit busy there but not an excuse for the time it took for our food to arrive or the additional time for the hot sauce and syrup to be brought. Went and grabbed it myself. All in all I would certainly eat there again, the place was clean, friendly and is a classic diner. Just won't make it the destination, but perhaps as I pass through somerset.

  • Angela B.

We weren't disappointed when we stopped here. We're trying to show our children that there is more to life than McDonald's. For $3.99 we were served 2 eggs, meat choice, home fries and toast. Add a half stack of pancakes or French toast for $1.99. True diner experience and great coffee mugs filled regularly by our attentive server.

  • Bridget S.

The food is good and the prices are good. It's a nice stopover from the turnpike. Pace is very slow, so probably not a good spot if you are in a hurry.

  • Ashlee H.

Excellent diner food! Everything tastes homemade and the service is excellent. I've been there a few times, and haven't been disappointed yet. The burgers are AMAZING! The burger with the eggs is delicious, and the cheese stuffed bacon cheeseburger is off the charts! You have to try the gob cake! You cannot go wrong with this place!

    (5)
  • Kel F.

The food was your typically diner food, burgers, chips etc. the breakfast skillet was amazing. The staff were friendly & the prices were super reasonable. Would eat here every day if I could, but was just passing through so that's not possible.

There we were, stuck at the North Somerset service plaza on the Penn Turnpike. We were hungry. None of the options were remotely good, and we were starting to eye the beef jerky. I had a great idea! "Let's consult Yelp" I said. There *had* to be a better option. Thankfully, this place popped up, and only 5 minutes away, just off the turnpike. So, in we went. This place is 100% worth getting off the turnpike for. The food is excellent, with large portions for reasonable prices. The pies are to die for. The place is, in a way, a bit of a time warp. The waitresses weren't dressed like they were out of the '60s, but the gossip was timeless. Anyhow, if you find yourself stranded, trying to decide which of the terrible fast food options to choose from, do what we did.

    (5)
  • Jack W.

Great place on our way down the turnpike! Felt welcome as soon as we walked in, would definitely stop there again! Got the super bacon burger. Homemade and delicious!

Get the coconut cream pie!! Actually this place is the little dated place that will Give you an awesome meal. This is home cooked food, don't come here with the idea you'll eat abd leave in 20 minutes. Today's special was chicken and waffles with gravy. Everything on plate was fresh made. French toast was done well plenty of cinnamon and cones with very crispy bacon. But best of lot may have been the roast beef sandwich. Roast beef sandwich comes covered in gravy abd with real homemade mashed taters. The zucchini planks were a great start. They are tempura coated and cone with ranch and marinara sauce. But really get the pie

  • Hal R.

I went twice this past week and got the breakfast special both times. The first time I added on a short stack of pancakes. I got the same server both times and she was terrific. As she told me, they try to sell as much locally produced product as they can. Somehow they do it at a very low cost. The best of the best is a combo of the coffee, syrup, and sausage. My goodness is the sausage good. The pancakes were blah. I would just stick with the multi grain toast. Way better. If I ever find myself in Somerset again, I will do my best to stop back by.

We came across the diner while searching for places for dinner. Very neat place! Food was good-lots of choices. Pie & shakes were good. Would recommend this place.

  • Derek L.

I'll start by saying that the lady at the front and the staff were rude. My son and I were on our way to Virginia and thought we would stop in the area for brunch. We stood up in the front waiting to be seated and NOBODY acknowledged us. No hello. No smiles. No greeting. I won't pull out the racist card but got that vibe there. So we walked out and went to Eatin'Park.

Stopped here in rainy cold evening as we had driven from NYC and were hungry for home cooked dinner. We shared as bowl of vegetable soup, hot roast beef sandwich with homemade gravy, a huge slice of lemon meringue pie. Delicious!!! This morning had their $3.99 special of 2 eggs, 2 sausage patties, potatoes, and 2 slices of toast. Had to take 'doggy bag' since the sausage was so good but didn't have a big enough appetite to eat it all!! Will be back whenever driving the Pennsylvania turnpike!!!

  • Brandon L.

Great food and very classic. Friendly staff. Their best menu seems to be their specials of the day. Spaghetti with meatball is something you should try. Also Pie is pretty cheap and delicious. $10for whole pie and you should get one if they are willing to. 10 different flavors of pies but they run out quickly. If you are lucky they will allow you to buy a whole pie. Or order ahead and they will make it for whatever flavor for couple more dollars.

Love this place- it's like stepping back in time. Every detail is retro, from the booths to the floors to the old school jadeite-colored milkshake machine. I recommend the hot roast beef sandwich and homemade mashed potatoes drenched in gravy...and the turkey club, as well as those fabulous pies!

Summit Diner.. is a gem. A family owned diner. It has great home cook meals and extremely reasonable prices. Our meal consisted of: home made meat loaf with real mash potatoes, dinner roll and a salad. I had a big salad. A bed of lettuce..which had tricolored pasta, chicken, hard boiled eggs, tomatoes, peppers and cucumbers. Drinks were hot tea and soda. The bill was $20.26 w/tax. Were can you get great home cooked meals at that price! The only thing we were disappointed in was that we could not try one of their various high-piled pies for $2.49 a slice. They looked scrumptious...and so did their cakes!

  • Matt P.

Not bad- I have eaten here 2 times now in a matter of days. First night was a burger and shake- it was quite good! The Oreo shake was very smooth. The burger was cooked to medium- service was good! But will definitely be back again for another burger. I went for breakfast on AM- had the breakfast special and pancakes. Again it was good- the sausage was made in home- nice to see- and was very good- but also very greasy. Everything else on the plate- home fries, eggs, toast, and pancakes were all delicious. I left about half a pancake- it was SO much food. Thanks for the good meal!

I'd don't believe they make anything that's not good. The mushroom burger was great ( the bun was awesome!) and I loved the Reuben. Gotta have some gob cake when you're done, but be warned, it's huge!!!

We stopped while traveling on the turnpike. Had a quick dinner. Good quality, inexpensive diner food. Exceeded expectations. Husband had roast beef sandwich with mashed potatoes and gravy and it was very tasty. I got the veggie burger which was fine - made from a frozen patty but tasty. Good chicken noodle soup. Friendly service - good alternative to fast food when on the road.

Our go to place when we're in the area. Been traveling through Somerset for many years and have never found a place we enjoy this much. Old style diner, honest food with a few unusual twists for the adventurous. I realize we're talking about "just a diner" here but the fifth star has been earned by them for many years of our comfort in knowing we can always expect a smile, good service and good food.

This place is AMAZING!!! Stopped in for a quick bite, ended up sitting and relaxing. The waitress was soooo sweet and the good was delicious. Definitely get the pie

We LOVE this place! It is conveniently located off the turnpike. The food is delicious! The atmosphere is adorable and the service is fast and friendly. We stop at the Summit Diner any chance we can when traveling on the PA turnpike.

Great breakfast, Great value, Great People We drive up from Pittsburgh area in a regular basis for breakfast and have never been disappointed. Ask for sausage patties if you get breakfast, they are home made, delicious and the size of a burger patty.

We have been to this location on four different occassions; overall the service is crazy unorganized for takeout and sitdown service. The food will do in a pinch, yet it really is not glowing. We had to wait until they ushered about 3 to 4 different parties to their tables and cash out 1 older couple until we could even place an order. Sigh. The staffers serve double duty as wait staff and cashier; they seemed overworked and exhausted. A lot of the dishes and veggies are smoothed in sauces or butter (double yuck), however they can tailor your request and remove that which is nice. The desserts are overwhelmingly huge, yet are just OK. The hot sandwich that we ordered was barely hot for the time that we waited. That is a shame for our long road trip. So-so diner.

A home run. Traveling through the area we stopped off for a quick lunch. The service was quick and friendly, the prices were more than reasonable. My club sandwich was fresh and tasty and the cup of beef vegetable soup was killer. My wife loved her roast beef smothered in gravy, and the bite of my son's pancakes and sausage I stole was delicious. Only wish I had some room left for pie (they looked awesome). Will stop in again next time we come through town.

We stopped at this gem passing through on our way to DC. It caught our eye as a traditional looking, classic diner and was just as expected inside with booths, chrome and a bar with stools. Everything my family had was good to very good but the homemade chicken rice soup and fries were fantastic. Portions are huge for a pretty modest price so we didn't have room for dessert but the shakes, pies and gob cake looked great! While the food took awhile to get to us, it was cooked to order so we knew it would take a bit. And the servers were knowledgeable and very attentive.

The best breakfast in town! Love the western skillet, you can get 2 meals out of it there is so much food!

Great place! Good food and low prices. I had the turkey club with fries and a piece of gob cake. The sandwich was huge and delicious. The fries were good too. I had to pack the gob cake for later because the sandwich filled me up and the block of cake was large. If you don't know, gob cake is like a Hostess Suzy Q. I think it's a PA thing. Also, try the sausage, I got the breakfast special to go and took a piece of the sausage before I gave it to the kid. Service was great also. You could tell this was a place with a lot of regulars because the staff seemed to know everyone. If I'm in the area again I will surely be back.

We just happened to notice the diner after we jumped off the turnpike to grab a bite to eat - our main goal, not to eat service plaza food. As soon as we entered, we were told to grab an open table....we found one that was free of dirty plates. We sat down and were excited to order - I especially couldn't wait to try a slice of pie. We waited for 10 min....no server. I noticed another couple had been waiting just as long...actually longer and had also not been greeted/placed a drink order. My husband pointed out that the server was helping a lady, who couldn't decide, buy a slice of pie. After about 20 min, we left. Not that anyone working there noticed the lost business. We were traveling with our infant daughter and the wait just wasn't worth it - we were already on borrowed time. Disappointing - we were excited to try something new. However....lesson learned. Stick to the service plazas or big name restaurants while traveling and in a time pinch. The food may be disappointing but someone is sure to serve you in a timely manner.

Saw some of the previous reviews regarding dinner so had that meal across the street at the Pine Grill. This was our breakfast meal the morning after the night before. Ordered some eggs with sausage patties - sounds pretty mundane, so why the 5 stars you may ask. Simple, those sausage patties were the best I have ever had! Made fresh onsite, they give you two HUGE patties. Not some half-dollar sized puck from a tube of Jimmy Dean, but more like two 1/4-1/2 pounders. I would have gladly been happy with just one, but two made my day (and I am sure my cholesterol) go sky-high. Their particular seasoning blend was just divine. Can't say enough about it. If you are planning a trip to the 9/11 memorial or to Fallingwater and are staying in Somerset, this is the breakfast joint to eat at.
