Stopped by while traveling and had a fantastic experience. The server was knowledgeable, kind, and very prompt. Had a fish sandwich special for lunch. It came with mac and cheese and stewed tomatoes. The mac and cheese was tasty with a bit of crunch and the stewed tomatoes had a hint of a sweet taste. The sandwich itself was impressive-large and tasty. I would definitely come again.

Stopped on a drive between Annapolis and Cleveland. We sat at the bar and had a great Black and Blue burger and good potato skins. It was welcoming and the service was efficient and friendly. We would stop here again.

The Pine Grill is a very quaint looking restaurant that was probably built in the 1950's with pine paneling, and a very interesting look inside. My wife had the vegetarian chili and I had the low fat pasta with a Caesar salad, or at least that is what I ordered. The vegetarian chili was very good. My pasta was not. There was hardly any sauce, and the vegetables appeared to be pre-frozen. Now for the entertaining part. Our waitress did not bring my Caesar salad. She came to the table to ask if we wanted anything else, and I informed her that she did not bring my salad. She also did not bring the bread. All the tables around us had bread baskets. She said she was sorry and that she would go get the salad. After some 15 minutes or so, after we were both finished, she again asked if we wanted anything else. I told her that we would just take the check, and she could just take the Caesar salad off the bill. She said she was sorry and left for another 10 minutes. She dropped off the check, I looked at it and there was a line called Motel Discount of 10%. When she came to pick up payment, I asked her why the salad was not taken off. She said that's what the 10% Motel Discount was. She then said "I can definitely take off more if you want". I told her to just take off the cost of a Caesar salad. She said it was $4.25. After another 10 minutes, she returned with the revised bill, with $3.79 off. At that point, I just wanted to get out of there. She also never refilled my drink. There was a pretty good crowd, and many appeared to be local. Also, it looked like the other wait staff seemed to be more on the ball. If you do decide the try the Pine Grill, I would read the other reviews carefully to find something that they specialize in, and hope you get a competent server. Oh, one more thing. The mens restroom had a hand written note on the door warning that the sink had no water. Not to worry, as there were three small sanitizer bottles in the sink with just enough in one of them to sanitize my hands. I suppose the person who wrote the barely legible note was also in charge of procuring the sanitizer bottles.

My experience was certainly an average one, but a good average one. I walked in and was seated almost immediately and my complicated drink order (water) was taken. My water was brought to me, by the hostess and shortly after my waitress had arrived. She came up to the table and seemed upset that I had already received my water and mumbled something, so I awkwardly laughed. I said, I could use some time to review the menu, which was not too intimidating. I noticed it was pasta night, so I figured I would get some pasta. Unfortunately, the pasta I wanted and my two back up pastas were out. Being that it was about an hour before they closed, I was not surprised. Now to the food, I was pretty hungry so I ordered the chicken quesadilla appetizer. It came out and it was 4 small triangles of a quesadilla. They were tasty, but next time I think I will keep the 5 bucks. I decided to order a crab cake sandwich for my entree. The sandwich came out and it was nothing impressive, crab cake on a kaiser roll with lettuce and tomato, nothing less nothing more. It had a nice taste, but I'm pretty sure I could have eaten 4 of them. Overall, the food was pretty good, but the vibe was weird off the get go. I would imagine an early dinner or lunch visit would be well worth it. It has a very down home feel to it, some may call it outdated, but I liked it. I will say, my favorite part was when the hostess came up and asked me if I enjoyed the drunk man laughing at the bar. We laughed, we shared a moment together and it was beautiful. Anyways, it is definitely worth the visit if you are looking for a place to sit down and get a bite to eat.

It's a local favorite. My mother and her friends love this place.. Me? Well.. I could be just as happy else where. The food is alright, always the same ole thing on the menu.. Hasn't changed for 10 yrs+.

The place needs a makeover, but it's clean and that's most important! I got a chicken salad. It was nice sized, just right. Their ranch dressing is so good (like Eat-n-Park). The staff was very nice with fast service!

  • Mike A.

Good food... Not great, but good. However, for the price you pay, it's a great value. Probably not too much else around anyway. Potato skins were very good. Burger was decent and the fries were OK. If you go, get the peanut butter chocolate cake for desert. That was the highlight.

Being my first trip through Somerset, we asked the front desk of our hotel for suggestions of places to eat. I like to try local places, so we picked this place in the middle of town for dinner. Walking into the place it was clear we were in for a 'local' experience in a place that looked like it hadn't change (though well maintained) since before my time. Our waitress, with her natural smile, got our drink orders and told us about the evening's specials. Although the food was what you expected: fried chicken, meat-heavy dishes, and meant for folks of Germanic origin, I was happy to find one of the soup specials (clearly made in the kitchen, as opposed to a can) and a vegetable pasta dish that had plenty of color to it. Finishing off the meal was a clearly homemade blueberry pie, which left me feeling a little more than full. Walking into a place this is all about the expectations you set beforehand. If you think you're going to get a fine dining experience you're going to be disappointed, but if you think it's going to be a restaurant filled with cheerful people and food probably closer to your mom's than some 'big city' restaurant, you're in for a treat.

Great food. Soup was wonderful and home made. Salad was fresh. Great variety of salad dressing and some are made in house. Entrees were perfectly prepared. Clean. Friendly wait staff. Large menu with great variety. A must do if you are staying nearby or if you are passing through on the PA Turnpike.

I was ready to leave before I was seated. The manager who seated us put the menus on the table and proceed to walk away into me. He was a big man and I am a small person. He didn't wait for me to be seated and he didn't apologized for almost running me over. The food was okay. The prices were high. The staff was not happy and showed when they served you and other customers. I wouldn't eat here again.

Ya, after visiting this place for a second time, I've got to go one star. I think McDonalds has better service. I never set out to dog a business, but my goodness it's bad. The manager should get a "sturn talking to" just for allowing this crap to happen. You basically have to beg for a glass of water, no one can make a simple Sprite and vodka, and the food is over cooked every single time. I ordered a chicken club this time thinking I was playing it safe. Gross. My coworkers didn't listen to me and both went with the steak. They were smothering it in ketchup or steak sauce just to get it down. I wouldn't reccomend this place to anyone. Stay away.

Not too shabby. Decent food that's worth the price. I had pierogies that were real and the smoked pork chop which was quite good but a a little overdone. The mashed potatoes had that nasty style light brown gravy though so I scraped that off and used the pork's mustard sauce. Need's a bit more for the beer menu

We were staying at the hotel across the street and they recommended we eat there. I wish we had looked elsewhere. We had the calamari which had more deep fried pepperoncini rings than calamari. My husband ordered the fish special, I believe? Or else it was te cod dish. Either way, it was crappy. The fish was mushy and had no flavor. The vegetables were decent, but the rice that it was served with? HORRID! And I like rice, even plain rice, but this didn't have the basic salt or pepper on it. It was just rice on a plate. I ordered the Portobello Salad which should be renamed the Sun-Dried Tomato Overload Salad. I couldn't find the portobellos anywhere. There was about one cup of julienned sun-dried tomatoes, some lettuce some cheese, definitely NOT worth the price I paid for it. Here's the kicker. The waitress ignored me ENTIRELY! I wasn't halfway through my salad when she asked my husband if we wanted dessert. I still have about 15 minutes of eating left to do when she brought the check. Considering I paid the bill (which she then returned to my husband) there was no tip to be had. Crap food and RUDE service? NO THANK YOU! DO NOT GO HERE! Find another place to eat, or eat at McDonalds. They'd serve you better.

The hostess threw our menus on the table, complaining to other staff while we sat down. She then walked away without saying a word. I had the triple cheese manicotti that was freezer burnt around the edges and warm at best! The waitress only came to the table twice, I could have had more water! This restaurant WAS good but service and food quality has declined!

Great stop while traveling through. The fish sandwich is delicious and the Onion rings were very well made/not greasy...best we have had in long time.

Went there a few years ago and our waitress wasn't too kind. We ordered a dessert, and she acted like she didn't wanna put it in, because she thought we were kids with not much money. I'm only giving this 3 stars because the food is very good. But after our Mistreatment, I'm not sure if we'll go back.

Wife and I where staying in a somerset hotel because pittsburgh was booked with convention business. We ended up eating a Pine Grill rather than Mickey Ds or Eat n' Barff. We ate steaks and let me tell you : Probably the best steak I've eaten in 20 years.Cooked to perfection and the flavor was amazing. We had a disgusting old cold baked potato and fries.Stick with the fries you'll be ok.

I get a lot of turkey burgers on my travels around the North-Eastern and Mid-Western parts of the country. This one was OK. No sides included so I bought a side salad. I asked to make sure it was not iceberg, and was told it was mixed greens. Unfortunately, mixed greens here means romaine mixed with iceberg. The 2 guys who ate with me both liked their meals. It was clean, the server was very nice, and the wait for food was reasonable. Apparently I'm really picky about salads, but since this site is about opinions, I guess mine counts too!

Stopped here on long trip home from delaware to cleveland. Ranch dressing is great an we bought some to bring home - it was that good! Salad with blackened chicken was great; turkey panini was good. Shrimp scampi also good. Pesto breadsticks were amazing!

Nice little place right off the turnpike. Was crowded for a Wednesday night with a mix of travelers and locals. Super friendly service, lots of choice on the menu, and solid food.

We typically have one dinner at the Pine Grill when we come to Seven Springs. We make a reservation which is nice because it starts filling up around 6:00-6:30. The building itself is nothing to look at and the parking is in the back. The menu is pretty standard except for their daily specials. I ended up ordering the Racheal Chicken sandwich, fried breast with cheese, 1000 island, and slaw. It was good but surprisingly served with no side item. That was the second time this trip i got a sandwich that wasnt served with fries. Nearly half our group ordered the cheesy chicken parm, and they all seemed pleased with it. The service was ok, took a little while to get our orders taken, but she was prompt in returning to refill drinks and check on us. My daughter enjoyed her kids pizza, but the steamed veggies were blah, too many onions and bell peppers. Was really expecting carrots, broccoli, and cauliflower only. Kids dont really like onions and bell peppers for the most part.

Service was fine. The food was not bad, kind of a classic midwestern american restaurant with burgers, pasta dishes, and some entrees. My calves liver was slightly overcooked and a little bland, but a dash of salt helped out with that. Reasonably priced, and not a bad option if you're staying in one of the bazillion hotels in the area.

Burger was scorched, beer battered fries were mushy. They gave me $3 dollars off. I expected a lot more

I enjoyed the Pine Grill. We were starving and looking for a decent, local, non-fast-food place and the Pine Grill suited us just fine. It's a pretty basic restaurant with a lot of woodwork and a little bar in the back. They give you large portions. The chicken pasta dish I had was a little spendy at around $13, but you also get a salad and bread and such and it's very filling. The pasta was actually delicious and the food was very satisfying because it came on the heels of little to eat and lots of driving. We also tried their pierogi, which were very simple but tasty. I would recommend the place, it's comfy and pretty good.

Excellent choice. I reviewed several reviews on Yelp and decided to try this establishment. Pros: service was very good, Resturant was clean and the atmosphere was great and the food was very good. Cons: the rolls were dry and tasteless. My wife and I both had the baked cod with mashed potatoes, vegetables and each had a glass of wine and desert. Our meal came to just under $48.00. I would go back if I were in the area, but skip the rolls.

It was our first time here and we have some mixed reviews about our meal. We ordered a burger, cheese steak and a Swiss steak. The meats overall lacked flavor. The beer battered fries were awesome! But the main courses were just not all there. However the service was friendly and warm. I probably will not try this place again.

Overall we had a good experience there. Decent sized portions with an outstanding cookie skillet dessert that might have put us over the full line which isn't a bad thing. The food wasn't over complicated and hit the spot for the price..

Service was nice. Coffee was delicious. Coleslaw was excellent. Pine Grill had a comfortable environment. I would absolutely recomment stopping here along the PA Turnpike. We stopped here while we stayed in one of the many hotels at this exit.

The beer battered fries were excellent, and the homemade ranch does not disappoint. The waitress was very friendly as well as the rest of the staff. You can tell a lot of people eating there were regulars. I got the black and bleu burger- minus the bleu because bleu cheese is gross. The burger was good with a toastes bun and hefty bacon strips on top. Perhaps the most pleasing thing at the restaurant was a pretty waitress named Crystal, which is sure to keep me coming back.

Great little diner with charm and character just off of the highway. I know what you're thinking. "Charm" read cheesy... "Character" read old. I don't know why this place has such crummy reviews, but it's a gem. My grandma and I decided on this place because the hotel gave us a discount card (and this is about it besides Eat and Park). I got the veggie chili (more like veggie soup, but spicy and flavorful), house salad (romaine and mixed greens with some cherry tomatoes), and a side of French fries... Seasoned and crisped to perfection. Exactly what you would expect from diner fries. My grandma went with the meatloaf and mash potatoes, which came with 3 large slices of loaf and a healthy helping of home-made mashed potatoes, smothered in brown gravy. She got a glass of wine for about $4. Our waitress was busy but sweet and smiley. Can't imagine a better place for the price in this area.

Was recommended by the hotel and am giving two for the service, but if you are looking anything more than meat-taters diner fare try somewhere else. They have a large menu but seemed completely uninspired, I have been eating healthier and nothing seemed appealing. Sat at the bar had a local beer ( OK) then a Sam Adams - completely sour - paid up and left.

what a great place when you are on the road looking for a great place to get a hot meal!! Not fancy, but great!!! I usually sit in the comfortable bar when I am by myself. Steaks, pasta, etc All good!!

This establishment was recommended by the hotel with a 10% discount card. What a dive in a family friendly atmosphere. The Sharaz was OK. The description of the Calamari appitizer was not the same as on the plate. No banana peppers nad it looked like it just came out of the deep freeze. The Shrimp, Crab Meat and Penne Pasta special was too salty and oddly spicey. It contained red bell peppers but something else was making it hot. Service was flat. The waitress had no personalty, just left the food and went away. Seemed to not have the ability to anticipate what a patron might seek, like more water or more wine.

I was in town and looking for a good local joint. Nothing fancy or pricey, since I was on my way back home. It had a nice PA-style family restaurant feel. The bar area was a little more modern. Food - I had something along the lines of a Hickory smoked steak and cheese sandwich. It was winter, and I was in the mood for a little bit of warm-and-fuzzy (and I have a small obsession for fireplaces). Ho-lee crap, that was tasty. They probably cooked it, and stuck it in a fireplace for a sec...or maybe cooked it there too. I couldn't let any meat escape. It was finely sliced/somewhat shredded, so pretty easy to eat. The only complaint may be that it ended up a little dry, probably from the smoking. Meh, I didn't care much. The fries were also nice and clean-fried, not heavy or greasy. Atmosphere - comfy, like an old country living/dining room. Some Christmas decor was still up, but it was subtle and tasteful. There is also indirect lighting, so no bothersome lights bearing down on you. I agree with another post - it's not crazy or exotic, but classic, and there is enough variety on the menu that there's something there for everyone. (But, I gotta say, few places offer Hickory smoked steak and cheese lol!!)

Buffalo chicken wrap grilled not fried! Woo Hoo! Full portions. Nice atmosphere and friendly staff. It's a great local eatery. I would definitely eat here again.

Locally owned and operated establishment. The owner and/or his wife is usually there and the staff are always very friendly and attentive. The soups here are some of the very best in the area! The burgers are huge! Fries are fresh cut and the deserts are very tasty too!

Horrible!!! Food is cheap and frozen. Staff is friendly, but no training in food service what so ever. God forbid you order anything other than a bottle beer or rum and coke. Kitchen staff can't cook a steak. Salad was all lettuce with a tomato and one mushroom. You can tell the owner buys the cheapest food possible. Ive eaten better steak at golden corral. Maybe by somerset standards, this is acceptable, but if you're from out of town, don't bother. Better getting a hot and ready from little Caesars. Best bet is to stay away

This place is terrible. The food we had was awful. My pasta was unevenly cooked--as in spaghetti cooked in too small a pan, my friend's chili was obviously from a can, as was my tomato sauce. The service was friendly but if you want food, this, unfortunately is not a good place.

If you're traveling along the PA Turnpike and can't stand the thought of more fast food, try this place. It's friendly and clean - not expensive. The choices are not exotic but there's something for everyone.

A very good friendly family type diner restaurant. Not meant to be fine dining, but a step above a typical diner. Very popular with the locals, many dedicated customers. Much better than chains.

One of the better places to eat in Somerset. Their Ranch dressing is homemade and really good. My parents eat here on a regular basis.

This place has gone downhill as far as the wait-staff. They screw up every order and it's because they don't write it down. If I have to tell a waitress that I want something more than once, I get pissed, and I don't tip. If I'm paying $50 for a meal, it should be close to perfect. The table of brats next to us didn't make our dinner pleasurable either.

We stopped here for a quick bite on our drive east. Had an early lunch...11:30 on a Monday. Lauri was our server and she was efficient and friendly. We had the black and blue burger and the smoked steak sandwich. The au jus we had on the side was really good. Not salty at all. And we stocked up on some pure PA maple syrup on the way out.

We were pleasantly surprised. We ordered the veggie pasta (linguini) and a chef salad. The waitstaff is nice. I see they have about of fish on the menu but wasn't brave enough to try it. Decent prices and the portions are not too big.

Sat at the bar for dinner, great friendly service. Had the meatloaf reminded me of home. I was a little concerned since I asked at the hotel and they had 10% off business cards at the ready but fear not, I'd come back again!

  • Erica D.

Our family stopped here for a late dinner, while traveling through. The staff was very friendly and attentive. The food was reasonably priced with good portion sizes. It was a much nicer meal than we would normally get on the road. I was pleased with the selection, I have to eat a gluten free diet and I was giddy the menu had items labeled gluten free. We all ate seafood items, each one was well prepared, however the FRIES that came with my sons shrimp wrap had the family fighting over the last one! It was said by one of my teenagers that 'it may very well be the best fries I've ever had'.
