Top notch authentic mexican!! Stopped in on a whim and was not disappointed. My girlfriend and I were the only ones there for lunch and received great service and fresh food. The owner is motivated and really cares. The guac was delicious and the carnitas tacos and enchiladas were beautiful. Definitely going back to try dinner and would totally recommend!

I'd give this a 3.5, but, well, I can't. The food was decent, but it was so fresh that it took forever to get it. I'm pretty sure I heard the cook pounding out my chicken. We were the only people I the restaurant... I'll go back, but not if I'm in a rush or really hungry.

This establishment has it all...wonderful ambiance, fantastic food, excellent service, reasonable prices. My friend and I both had the scallops and they were absolute perfection. The guacamole beforehand was fresh fresh fresh. I love that it's BYOB and located in the heart of Skippack village. It was my first time there, and I am already planning to go back. Love it!!!

I have actually never written a Yelp review before but was so disappointed with this place that I felt compelled to do so now. It is a charming location that I have seen a number of times when picking up pizza at Skippack Pizza and always wanted to try. It was a lovely Friday evening so we gave it a shot, but it was awful. The service was terrible. The waitress was pleasant but we sat for a long time with no water, no utensils, and no menus. Once we finally ordered it took a looooonnnngggg time for our food to come...well over an hour. We thought about cancelling the order and leaving a few times but decided to stick it out. My 6 year old daughter was so hungry that she was beside herself. No complimentary chips/salsa....nothing. When the food finally came we wished we had actually left when we wanted to. It was truly terrible...tasteless, bland, improperly cooked. The steak for my fajitas looked like it had been boiled instead of fried. It was grey, fatty, chewy....bad. My daughter's chicken tacos were the same way...rubbery white chicken covered in what tasted like melted Kraft cheese singles. The side Mexican rice had absolutely no flavor at all. We told my daughter that she didn't have to eat her (gross) food and that we would get her some vanilla iced cream for dessert. We ordered it only to find out that they were out of vanilla ice cream...a main component for several desserts on the menu. Then the check came - $75 (plus tip $90) for three entrees, one of which was a kids meal, and three sodas. It was insane. I was SO disappointed amd actually kind of angry that we wasted so much money on such bad food and service. I was really surprised at our experience because the reviews here were generally very positive and a main reason why we decided to try this place. Anyway, even though it's very convenient to where we live, we most definitely will NOT be back.

Had lunch at Carisma a few days ago with my husband and 2 kids. The restaurant itself is small but really cute. The food was great. It was fresh and tasty. The man who helped us was very friendly but not in a fake or overbearing way. He definitely made us feel at home and welcome. I'm looking forward to eating here in the summer and sitting outside on the fabulous patio! Thanks for a great lunch! We'll be back soon!

This place was very nice. Food was delicious and authentic. Ambience was quaint and classic Mexican. The owner was extremely friendly and happy to see you. He was willing to cater to whatever you wanted and made you feel like you were eating in his house. I highly recommend this restaurant for lunch and dinner.

I've only one visit so far, but I've nothing but good things to say. Owners on site, doing the cooking and serving, they really care - stop by the tables, ask how things are, explain what they can. Clean, nice space and the meals are worth the price. Bring your own beverages, what more can you ask for?

This may fly in the face of other reviews, but it has to be said... Carisma is a tourist trap...like most of the rest of Skippack Village. But, I didn't let that hold me back. I'm even going back to try Tokyo Sushi later this week. Carisma's interior looks like a Swiss chalet with some not-quite-right "Mexican" art on the walls. Fair enough. As this is a BYOB, I checked out the cooler and was glad Jarritos was serviced. The lunch menu is sparse. I ordered guacamole and chips while I checked out the menu. There was no guacamole to be had as I was told, "our avocados are too hard." A first. I ordered a substitute which was offered: Mango Salsa and Chips. The salsa was indeed fresh but lacked seasoning. And I' not just talking about chiles. There needed to be some sort of seasoning. It was sorely missed. The chips, on the other hand, were truly stale. I was worried about cracking my teeth (veneers) with every bite. The waitress brought over some green salsa and said it was spicy with jalapeños. But, it was neither spicy nor had jalapeños in it. Oh, well, on to the main lunch item: Carnitas tacos. In their defense, I can at least say the pork was not overcooked. Again, the tacos needed seasoning. Any seasoning would do. I was appreciative of the cilantro in the tacos. I ended up dousing them with El Yucateco which made them spicy hot with a little flavor. The rice that came with the meal looked like it was straight from a Goya commercial. The only shocker was the Mango Salsa cost $9. The Carnitas Tacos were $12. The waitress seemed nice and attentive. Though, there was only a table of 4 and my table of 2, service was painfully slow on a Saturday at about 1pm. My recommendation is to keep driving southeast on Skippack to the junction of 202 and east at El Sarape. Or eat at El Limon in Ambler or Conshie. Carisma does get an "A" for effort though. Please don't judge Mexican food by Carisma.

Walked into this charmingly appointed restaurant in the heart of Skippack. The owners moved to this space after their New York restaurant was destroyed during Sandy. Friendly staff and super-fresh food. The dishes were prepared right in front of us in a clean kitchen. Even the bathroom was clean, as testified by my toddler who always refused to go in public bathrooms before. Watch out for the fresh cut jalapeños though, if you're a little sensitive to raw spice. And definitely try the baked tortilla chips!

I wish the reviews we read matched our experience. We were greeted by a nice man ( the owner) and sat outside. He gave us great information about the specials and helped us choose our meals. The guacamole appetizer was very good. The entrees were not good at all. The chicken in two of the dishes was boiled and had no flavor. The mole sauce was flavorless and bland. The steak fajitas were fatty and overlooked. The rice as a side dish had no flavor and resembled minute rice. The food was very tough to even eat. The owner was told about the poor food and did not seem to be bothered. Extremely disappointing dinner....overpriced and unappetizing.

I went here for lunch for a coworkers bday. My coworker recommended it, so of course I had high expectations. I feel bad writing this because I think there may have been an issue with staffing, so I will give them the benefit of the doubt that this doesn't happen all the time. Maybe someone new was working here or something so keep that in mind when reading the reviews. First off, it was super cold in there. Cold to the point where we all wanted to wear our jackets. We were also seated right next to the window when the place wasn't even full. We were told later that there was an upstairs and that it was warmer up there. No clue why we weren't just seated there. It could have been because there was limited seating up there? There were about 7 of us so maybe that was the case. Again I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. I have dealt with bad service and good food before so I was hoping the food could turn me, but it didn't. I ordered the chimichanga and the guy next to me had the burrito. Both of our meals looked exactly the same. The chimichanga was supposed to be deep fried and it wasn't. It was edible, but I was disappointed that I didn't get what I wanted. I don't think it was a one off mistake either because the guy next to me ordered the same thing his wasn't deep fried either. As far as the quality of people, the servers were all really nice and the place was very clean and festive. Again, maybe I was there on an off day, but the overall experience left more to be desired.

A fantastic gem in the heart of skippack village. This was our first time eating here. The restaurant was very cozy with an inviting rustic feel. We were pleasantly surprised to find the menu offered quite a variation from the usual burritos and heavier Mexican food. The fare was lighter with fresh herbs and spices. The Guacamole was outstanding! Freshly made just minutes before eating. The owners were incredibly personable and so delighted guests were having a great time. Best of all the restaurant is a byob. You can even bring your own tequila and they will provide the margarita mix. I highly recommend this meal for a great meal that won't break the bank.

Tale of 2 dishes. We were very excited about coming here. Reviews seemed to be fair and appealing so we gave it a shot. 1st dish, GET THE EMPANADAS! They are legit and tasty as hell. Very fresh, homemade with chorizo, potato and gooey cheese. So we are now ultra excited for our main dishes based on the empanadas and the bar was set. And enter the chicken dishes...folks we sent them back after 1 bite. They were atrocious. I had the Chicken Margarita and my wife had the Chicken Mole. They both had the texture and look of boiled or steamed chicken. No flavor. When asked how it was prepared our (very kind) waitress said that they are sauteed. Sauteed chicken does not come out milky white. Yuk. 2 stars, because the empanadas saved the 0. Would go back for those in a heartbeat!

A lovely Mexican family cooks authentic cuisine the rivals the food we ate in Mexico. Homemade salsas and recipes were delicious. Don't miss this place.

This is a wonderful addition to the Skippack, PA restaurant scene. Very warm owners who put their heart and soul into all the dishes they prepare from only the freshest ingredients. I'm not even a fan of Mexican food, but I'm enjoying everything I've tried on the menu.

I don't usually post reviews about restaurants, but we just had a fantastic meal at Carisma restaurant. I had the New York strip steak. It had a great Mexican flavor to it. The side of rice was fantastic as well. My wife had the grilled shrimp. It was fantastic as well. We will be coming back very soon and will tell are friends about this great Skippack restaurant.

Visited last night with a few friends! I first heard about charisma through my boss at work - he spoke so highly of his experience there ! After reading through all of the positive yelp reviews, I knew I had to check it out. I have to say, I had pretty high expectations ...And, Carisma came through on all points! Jose was absolutely fantastic from beginning to end! Not only was he flexible with any food substitution requests, he was very entertaining as our server! Our entrées were delicious and the appetizers and desserts were fantastic! We ordered the guacamole, ceviche, and empanadas ! All very good! We also had the tres leches and mango sorbet Flan (prepared with flame by Jose , table side) which was awesome!! My friends and I all agreed that we would all be back to visit JOSE again! Terrific experience...

This restaurant has amazing food and amazing service. Jose and his wife do a fantastic job of making you feel at home. The atmosphere is casual and the restaurant is very clean. I love that this is a BYOB and that the meals are reasonably priced....but even more importantly, the food is just fabulous. My husband and I had their homemade guacamole and chips, as well as the grilled artichokes for starters. Delish! I had the tacos and my husband had the tequila marinated steak - it was amazing. I highly recommend giving Carisma a try - we already have plans to return!

We've only eaten here once but we liked it a lot. We biked in during lunch and stopped here. The outdoor seating is nice and very friendly service. I had the chile rellenos and chimichanga. It was very good. My wife had the chicken sandwich and she loved it. Very good. I recommend this place.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
