This place is a family tradition when we drive from our home in NJ to our grandparent's in Maryland. We've tried many places on that route in 25 years and this is by far the best! We absolutely love their salad bar (especially the bacon dressing...mmmm) and my mother is obsessed with their hot turkey. It's the only place where you can get a whole duck for $10. Reasonable, fast, friendly, this is the place to go!

great service, the servers and staff are really nice. the food is fine. they also have an "all you can eat " buffet that has some tasty things on it. the desserts are really good too. what more could you want... traveling down the highway and the place is like an oasis.

Not sure why this place only gets 3 1/1 stars! It's a great diner. And since I'm from Jersey, I know a good diner! Ambiance is family restaurant, pricing is amazing, and service is impeccable! Get there early for breakfast. It was packed by 830am.

Just left this place after sitting waiting for our waitress to take our order for 20 minutes. We started counting how many times she passes us and were up to eleven before we left. It wasn't that it was busy. A few people came in about ten minutes after us, and when we saw their order being taken, it was enough for us. We were blatantly ignored by the staff, but, still had to pay three dollars for my soda. Last time I'll step in to this place. Keep going down 78, there's places that will at least acknowledge your existance.

The restaurant was fairly busy at 6pm Friday (usually a good sign). Seated instantly & ordered fairly quickly. Food was a little slow but nothing bad. Food quality was fine but nothing memorable. It is a little pricey for the quality. This restaurant is comparable to a "Cracker Barrel" but on a family owned basis & a little more expensive. If you want to take grandma to a place like the 1970's, she would enjoy this one. We did not do desert so cannot comment on that.

Long trip. Stopped at Roadside America on the way back from Knoebels. Clean, good menu, attentive service, good food, and reasonable prices. You won't be disappointed.

The third and last time I ate at this restaurant I had a hair in my entree and a metal shaving from either a can or a scrubber in my soup. The manager was barely apologetic and didn't even want to take it off my bill. Wait staff was bored and lethargic. I will not be eat here again.

My family and I were driving cross-country for a funeral and needed a place to eat, so this was the spot. It looked crowded, but we were able to get a seat without issue. Be forewarned, this is Pennsylvania Dutch country, and you will hear people with interesting accents. I wound up with the meatloaf, which wasn't tremendous or amazing, but it was hearty. I also tried their Dutch Potatoes(?) which is a mixture of spatzel noodles and garlic mashed potatoes, which I liked. My mom went for one of the dinner salads, which was huge. They do have some hearty-sized portions. This is a greasy-spoon/diner type-place, and not some fancy restaurant. They have a bit of everything on the menu, too, so if you have a picky eater kid-type in your crew, you should be able to find something for them.

I concur with the other review on here. Fair at best. I stopped here a year or so back, and the meal was less than memorable. It does have a decent location right off the highway, but the food quality just isn't there. Skip it.

We were on our way down to Texas and looking for a place to eat breakfast. This diner wasn't that hard to find but easy to miss. We were seated quickly (it was around 9 AM when we arrived). Our waitress was very kind and seemed to genuinely enjoy her job. I ordered two hot cakes, 2 strips of bacon, scrambled eggs, and sausage (I usually don't like sausage but it was quiet good). They got the food to us fairly quick. The food was well cooked and they gave me plenty of everything. My dad ordered a bacon and cheese omelet (they don't have it on the menu but he asked and they were more than happy to make him one) with a side of home fries and my dad said it was very delicious. Definitely recommend if you're on a road trip and looking for a place to eat breakfast. I don't know about the lunch/dinner but since the breakfast was delicious, I think their lunch/dinner is worth a try!

Clean, comfortable and affordable family fare. Great salad bar. Fantastic service. Didn't save room for dessert, which I regret because the baked goods looked fantastic!

We usually drive from DC to the Poconos via I80 , but as there was construction we took I78 and discovered this family owned rstaurant... From now on we will be taking this route just to eat at this joint. If I could give them 100 stars I would. Super friendly staff to start with... When we got there around fivish, the place was fairly empty; by the time we left around six, it was packed to the gills. We had the buffet, which was spectacular. The salad bar was well stacked and included two kinds of cole slaw - both delicious and fresh cut up fruit and several kinds of rolls... Also hot bacon dressing, which must be some kind of Amish or German delicacy, but I passed on that. I gotta admit that I was tempted - I've never seen "hot bacon dressing" before, and well... bacon on anything is good, but I think my cholesterol count went up a little by just looking at it! At the buffet, everything looked home made... This was what a pot luck at someone's house is like -- even the display (on large plates) was "homey." The oven baked fish plate was excellent, the home made ravioli, zuchinni & tomato sides, crab cakes, breaded shrimp; there was a ham carving station and a stack of the largest ribs that's I've seen in ages. There was also a sweet potato mash to die for... Just beat good old comfort food! Also a large variety of desserts... of course!

Diner food at diner quality with friendly central Pennsylvania servers. We stopped in here for breakfast. It's pretty tough to screw up eggs and bacon, so everything was as expected for me. One thing that is interesting is the Amish sayings that are on the placemats, embracing South Central Pennsylvania's Amish heritage. Of things I can't have, they have sausage gravy and scrapple, both things that someone like me on a gluten free diet is jealous I can't have. Exactly as you'd expect at a diner: nothing more, nothing less.

I stop in here often on trips between my home in NYC and summer place in Virginia, and have eaten at this restaurant more than 20 times. I cannot believe the negative reviews posted here! This place is great. It may not be fine dining, but it is always good and a terrific value. The salad bar is well-stocked with crudites (though the lettuce is just iceberg) and my kids love the breads and rolls. The deserts are fresh and delicious, and we all leave stuffed for a very reasonable price. The staff is always friendly and competent. Once I left my glasses and they mailed them to me. They get an extra star for that. And they are right down the road from Roadside America, which is an absolute must-see temple of Americana (and obsession). Shame, negative reviewers, shame!

We were out of gas AND starving on a Saturday night. Reading the reviews made us consider chewing our knuckles and holding out for the Indian place another 41 miles on down the pike but we figured the parking lot was pretty full, so how bad could it be? Actually, not that bad! We all enjoyed our food, typical Greek diner menu, well done. The Greek salad was surprisingly fresh and delicious. They told us the desserts were all low calorie (?) so we went for the Boston cream cake, yummy, but never worth the hollow calories... It was not fantastic, but for diner food, it was not in the realm of 'Bad' and sat comfortably in the arena of 'Good' for what it is. The most disturbing thing in the restaurant, was the mass of the diners. I know that as a New Yorker, we get to do a lot more walking than rural PA residents, but ... The folks enjoying the friendly waitstaff were people of substance to be sure...

On my way home from West Virginia, I stopped by to one of the rest stops and gas fill up. Then I saw the Blue Mountain Family Restaurant. Food is good... Menu sounded better though.

We live nearby and go there now and then for a quick meal. The staff is friendly and the food and the service are both good. You get typical "dinner food" at a reasonable price.

Wasn't impressed. Hubby had a club sandwich which at over 7.00 you'd think the turkey would be fresh cooked instead of deli kind. He really liked his beef vegetable soup though, and like the poster above, was served in a coffee mug with the handle broken off. I had the special, Seafood Newburg. Horrible!!!! Extremely thick and pasty, tasted like flour, and more brown than orange. I had to send it back. I also had a side of mixed vegetables. If you ever had a can of generic veggies, this is what they tasted like. Mushy, sitting in water. Yuck! I ended up getting zucchini sticks and they were over-fried and dark. First and last time there for us. They deserve 1 star but the waitress and service was excellent.

I cannot believe some of the posts on here, from bashing the PA accents to the overweight people in the diner(wow, everyone has an "accent" and there are big people everywhere). I stay in the Harrisburg area at least once a year . I live on Long Island, and every food joint here is way overpriced. I stop here every trip home from PA, and have been doing so for many years. I find the food to be just fine, and the homemade cookies we take home even better. It is a pleasure to eat somwhere and not be ripped off like suburbia NYC. The staff is friendly and the people that eat there are as well. I can remember one older lady complimenting my teenaged daughter on her attire (LI people are kind of snobby and not friendly) so it was nice to talk to genuinely down to earth people. The food reminds me of the old fashioned joints of the past, I like that. We will be traveling to PA again the end of may and I am sure we will be stopping here again.

Yesterday was my second visit to this restaurant, conveniently located off I-78 near Roadside America. It's basic American and Greek fare but nothing to write home about, folks. I ordered a pizza burger and my wife ordered the bacon burger. I wasn't very impressed on my first visit and the second time merely confirmed that impression. Last time, my wife had the chicken salad sandwich and thought it was just ok. So if you're heading back from Allentown or NJ and need a quick meal and decent environment, this would probably be ok. Maybe your food selection will be better.

I just ate at this horrible place and it was so bad it warrants an immediate review as we continue on our trip. This was horrrrrrrrrrible. Son wasn't hungry so we just ordered him a virgin strawberry daquiri which was $3 of artificially flavored and colored abnormally-sour mostly ice too-sweet yuck. Daughter wanted the kid's soup and salad bar for $S. The salad bar had dried up vegetables, various salad that did not look fresh and greens that were mostly hard and bitter white lettuce chunks. Her cup of soup was "good" but was served I a old coffee cup that had holes where the cup handle had busted oss. Broken ceramic is neither safe nor sanitary. Hubby opted for the burger with bacon and onion rings for $5.50. The burger was small and made of that mushy pre-formed pre-frozen ground beef founf at the cheapest restaurants. I had the worst salad of my life. I ordered the Greek salad. The lettuce was limp and oil logged, the onioms were thick slices of tough old overly powerful old onion, the anchovies were smushy and unnaturally fishy (I had to gag them down), and everythin was swimming in about 1/2 cup of dressing. I had to shake off the excess dressing on every bite and I still had to choke past the vinegar and fishy taste on every bite. Literally had to choke it down. The only protein on this salad was the mushy old anchovies (and I LOVE anchovies) and one hardboiled egg that stunk of sulfer as I chewed it. All this for $7.50. By the way the server said the salad was HUGE and it was served in a standard small soup bowl. It was more like a side salad drowning in vinegat, smelly fish, and feta cheese. NEVER again. I should have cheched Yelp before eating there.
