A review is long overdue for this delightful, tucked-away place. Selinsgrove, home to Susquehanna University, is a little town in Central Pennsylvania that I lived in for 4 years when I attended school there. There is a serious lack of culture, decent restaurants, bars and people. Mainly there is a Wal-Mart and cows. And a Taco Bell. But "Downtown Selinsgrove" (it's one street) is home to several cute shops and eateries. And The Kind Cafe is the best one. The Kind Cafe was always great and now that they are under new ownership its even better. Great lattes, espresso, smoothies, coffee, iced tea, the list goes on. Great sandwiches, salads and soups. And NOW they are open on Saturdays (reservations only) for dinner. People. People, people, people. The dinner I had here was DELICIOUS. This guy (the one with the Italian accent) knows what the !@#$ he is doing. You should see the size of the kitchen he's prepping in too - it is dollhouse sized. But the food is amazing. The ambiance at "The Kind," as its referred to by students, is very non-Selinsgrove-esque. If you lived in this town you'd know what I mean. There is art on the walls, a chess board, comfy couches, architecture magazines and dim lighting. The place is transformed on Saturday nights by even dimmer lighting, candles and BYO wine. Everytime I go back to visit school I make SURE to have at least one meal (breakfast, lunch and/or dinner) here...and its worth the trip everytime.

I first came across the Kind Cafe in 2009. I had just moved to Selinsgrove and my internet had yet to be hooked up so I set out to find a place that offered WiFi and the Kind Cafe was that place. I figured I could have a cup of coffee while I worked on my report for work and I am so glad that I did! The cafe is a quaint and comforting establishment in the heart of Selinsgrove. There are comfortable chairs and tables in the back for business people and students to use while working or studying. The coffee selection is just as good, if not better, than Starbucks. The quality is amazing as well. I had an iced caramel macchiato and I could not tell the difference (except for the price). There is also an incredible food selection. I have tried the Olive Tree and Beach Bum grilled sandwiches and they have both been excellent. I've also had a few different breakfast pastries and the quality carries over to them as well. Prices are very good ($5-$8 for sandwiches), too. If you're looking for somewhere to grab your morning coffee or somewhere to kick back and have a chat with friends over lunch, the Kind Cafe is the just the place you're looking for.

Quiet, artsy (for selinsgrove), outdoor seating and a decent selection for a food menu. Good place to go and catch up with a friend over café.

I lived in Selinsgrove for four years while I was a student at SU. This place was the best! They have interesting drinks, not just coffee, but teas and smoothies that really brighten up your day. The atmosphere is relaxed and inviting. The paninis were out of this world. Unusual and surprisingly tasty combinations! I love and miss this place dearly.

The most adorable and cozy cafe. This place is the epitome of artsiness and comfort with paintings, funky tables, and scattered sunken sofas. Enjoy a nice cup of Harney and Sons while playing chess and catching up with a friend. I have also heard their smoothies are delicious.

I'm upping my review. Their food is really really good. Being the first in line it took just 6 min of sitting down waiting. My daughter has eaten everything I've ordered thus far and she's a picky almost 2 year old. Can't wait to try something new there!

Awkward... I've gone here three times now, and each time I order something, I don't like it. Chai tea latte (my favorite beverage, hot or cold), so I've tasted plenty at different caffe locations. It seemed water down and lacked the sweet kick. Actually, Everything else I've tried, to me seems watered down!!! The thing I hate the most... The cashiers or customer services ladies, whatever they are called, do not know how to say hello!!!! I find my self awkwardly standing there waiting for them to say something!!!! So I open up the conversation with a hello and just tell them my order. Awkward... This has happened three times I've been there. I wish I can remember if it was the same person or a different one each time. Its a shame because I love to see small business thrive, but if the drinks are bland and the service non existent... I'll just give my money to Starbucks.

Excellent food, great drinks and mostly friendly staff. Lately the staff has been great but its hard to forget the one snotty girl that used to work the counter. I stop in for lunch when ever I am in the area.

This is probably the best cup of coffee in there area, next to going to Fresh Roasted Coffee, LLC and buying it for yourself. This place has been around for a very long time. Each owner seemed really into it and kept the brand strong. I am very thankful for that. Such an amazing place. Dav and his staff are awesome. They are always helpful and willing to suggest what roast I will enjoy. The espresso is really damn good. The coffee selection is awesome. Many local vendors getting exposure. Fresh Roasted Coffee, LLC and Alabaster to name few. The baked Items are rad and always fresh. I would recommend this place to anyone who is interested in a decent cup of coffee in the area.

If you find yourself craving quality coffee and espresso, a great panini and tasty pastries, or homemade soup or fresh salad, The Kind Cafe will treat you right! The owner, Davide, has brought cosmopolitan trends like the pour-over to the college town of Selinsgrove along with well-crafted sandwiches, soups and salads in a warm, pleasant atmosphere. And don't forget to bring a book and swap it on the bookshelf for something to read as you savor a latte!

Came in to hang with a friend for awhile. Panini was delicious and the smoothie was equally good. I loved the huge straws! The place is a small, quiet yet relaxing place to enjoy lunch. They have various books and even board games to play (we actually did play scrabble.) Friendly staff and the service was great.

Loaded with snotty-nosed, spoiled rich kids. Go across the street to the Selinsgrove Brew Pub. Lots friendlier.

I was looking for a perfect spot to relax, read my book, and get something great to eat. And voila, I drove past something called The Kind Cafe and thought, hmmm...that looks nice! And was it ever! I had: ARTHUR SPINACHOKE Creamy spinach & artichoke spread, cucumber, red onion, tomato and cheddar on ciabatta $ 6.50 which was DELICIOUS and a mocha mint blended frozen drink that was also awesome. The atmosphere was great...great art, great seating options ( couches and tables, and even outdoor seating) and an atmosphere that just invites you to linger. I loved it!

Best coffee around. The food is good, the atmosphere is fun, but the coffee. Just delicious.

Best cafe in the area. The coffee is excellent as are the sandwiches. Great place to nosh on lunch, read a book or surf on your laptop in a nice relaxed atmosphere. I just wish their hours were more expansive and that they'd open a branch in Lewisburg!

Eh, great for coffee and they support the downtown arts scene but not my choice for lunch, ever.

Really great chai. I'm kind of a connoisseur of chai, and I've tried a bunch of recipes in Philly, and this one is impressive for a small town brew. I took off two stars because the staff seems to be a little less than kind -- to the point where I kind of call this The Judgmental Cafe. But hey, if you can get in, get your chai, and get out without an awkward stare, it's a great day!

I am rarely in Selinsgrove early enough to be in a coffee mood (find me at the Selin's Grove Brew Pub), but when I am it's a treat to remember the Kind Cafe. Good coffee, and free refills on house coffee, I was amazed to discover today (I don't recall that happening before). Decent cafe-like sandwiches, and a very pleasant space to sit and work/read, with free wifi. In a big city this would be four stars, but it's the best around without any obvious flaws so I'll be kind (ahem).
