I got into a bet with a waitress here once. I lost. Good burgers. good for a Sunday breakfast or a Friday after the bar snack. Nothing spectacular. It's you average dinner. Good and greasy. Just the way i like it. Been here more times than i can count. i am sure I'll be going here for a while.

Average greasy spoon diner. Open face roast beef and gravy is good.

    President Obama ate here!

Great find for breakfast/comfort food! Service was definitely attentive especially if you are a local of the area! Food was yummy enough and always a plus in my book if you can order sweet potato fries with breakfast instead of home fries! I eat there again and so should you!

We waited three minutes to get seated. The waitress was unfriendly, the restaurant ran out of spaghetti and she did not even offer to replace it. The bathrooms are very small, cramped, and dirty. All in all, we left the restaurant and had a better dinner at a different place

Love the Glider. We go here with the kids every now and then. Prototypical diner. Good breakfast( THE best cinnamon rolls anywhere. They're roughly the size of a grapefruit. Awesome). Good lunch/dinner selection. I can't say I've ever had anything I didn't like here. Everything is reasonably priced. My main gripe is that they are closed on Sundays.

Had breakfast here 3xs in one week. Good standard fair, nice atmosphere.

I just moved to the area and kept hearing about this place. When I finally asked what the big deal was, I was told just to go and get the gravy fries and open faced roast beef sandwich. When my family was in town, we went down to try it out. Delicious! Everything we got was great and the atmosphere of the old diner setting was fantastic. I would definitely go back again. Service was okay, not outstanding. Some waitresses were snippy while others were very pleasant - luck of the draw I guess. Definitely a place to check out for the experience alone.

Ah, glider diner.... I have been coming here since I was a child. I came here last Friday with my 8 month old and it didn't disappoint. We were there at about 8am and it was fairly empty so we found a table right away. We ordered pancakes w strawberries on the side, eggs, home fries and toast. Our food came out fast. The strawberries were super fresh, the eggs light and fluffy and the same for the pancakes. Not to mention the price. For this heaping pile of food I paid a whooping $9 (not including tip) how can you go wrong?

  • Mike Z.

Ordered a veggie burger. It came out after everyone had finished their meals, looked liked vomit, far too much salt and lettuce was unwashed. See picture. The waitress was kind and the gravy fries were delicious.

Great food and friendly service. Best homemade veggie burgers, hand cut sweet potato fries and fresh brewed iced tea. Very reasonable prices. A gem of a find.

This is by far one of the most inexpensive diners I've ever eaten at. Burgers are under $6 and come with fries! I ordered a bacon and cheese omlet with a side of sausage. I wouldn't have bothered with the fine-but-unimpressive sausage if I knew my omelet came with toast and home fries for under $7. Our table of four ate to our heart's content for only $44. There isn't too much to say about this place. The food is fine for the most part, the staff was unremarkable in a good way (prompt, friendly), and the price is right. They were unable to seat our group of 10, but I don't blame them on a Sunday afternoon, the place was pretty busy. We split into four at a table and the other six right next to us at the counter and we were all basically sitting together, a small price to pay. The parking lot was really cramped, and we had to circle before getting a spot, but it seems the turnover is pretty quick.

A great little diner. The BBQ pork Sandwich is pretty on point and my boyfriend really loved the Glider Sandwich. The staff are friendly and the wait is short- a great little greasy spoon on your way through town

Great home style breakfast. Eggs, ham, toast and coffee... Only $3.25 I am going to try one of their homemade muffins. Clean diner atmosphere. Only downside was the mediocre coffee.

I don't know how Yelp new I wanted to rate this place when it suggested it, but I have been meaning to do so. I love the Glider Diner. I think so of the reviews don't give it its due. You need to compare apples to apples. The Glider is an old school diner. Nothing fancy, but its got great food at an affordable price. I have been there for dinner several times now and have yet to have a bad meal. The Glider has some of the best tasting "diner food" I have ever had. They have several specials and soups each night. Some of the specials I can endorse include chicken pot pie, chicken croquettes, and broiled cod. Sometimes fish at a diner can be questionable. At the Glider is was tremendous. They also have good vegetables which is surprising for a diner. In particular, their creamed spinach was the best I'd ever had. The prices are generally very reasonable. One thing to watch out for is that their drinks are a bit more expensive than most places. $2.25 for soda, tea or coffee. If you don't mind drinking water or plan on having refills that is the best way to get your bang for you buck. Also, the price difference between a cup and bowl of soup is negligible in price but sizable in quantity. So if you like soup, or are thinking about sharing, go with a bowl. I plan on trying to go to the Glider Diner at least once ever two weeks, so maybe I'll see you there. Also, the people that go there are ridiculously friendly. Great place to bring a family.

Whenever I visit Scranton I make it a point to get here at least for one meal. Food is on point and at times surpasses for what is expected of typical diners. A great place to go with a group of friends. The only thing I'd avoid getting from the menu is the steak, a friend ordered that once at it looked sad.

Yum yum. Definitely a diner but unique theme from aircraft. Our waitress was super knowledgable and helpful she made some suggestions from various parts of the large menu. We tried two: hot open face roast beef with fries and gravy and eggs Benedict. We were both very pleased with the meal. Great flavor, great portion size. Try them both! If we are in the area again we will stop in! Thanks for a wonderful dining experience. Oh we also took dessert to go. Looks yummy!

Well decided to give it another try . It will be the last . The ham and bean soup had no flavor . My son had the boneless wings. They were only a few to an order , they were so hard he couldn't even chew them .

Food has got so bad here. I used to love coming here when I was younger but now the food is just crap. The hot roast beef is all fat and tastes like its old.

Everything you want in a diner. Huge menu, huge place and excellent food! Service was really good and if I'm passing through Scranton again, I will make a point of stopping in for a delicious BLT!!

I spent 6 years working in restaurants in my 20s. It's hard for me to get so frustrated that I want to write a bad review. This was our first and last time eating at the Glider Diner. Our waitress was so rude. After waiting for five minutes after walking in an not knowing where to sit, I finally caught a young lady's eye. I smiled and said we've got five. She abruptly said, "seat yourself." Ok, we found a table. Snippy interaction was the standard for the meal. I figured I'd need to grab silverware from a table beside us since she didn't seem to care that we didn't have enough. Our food came quick and was tasty. Her attitude was poor. At the end of the meal she even cut my wife off and walked away while she was asking a question about splitting the bill. Before I left, I decided to ask her what was wrong or if she was having a bad day? She said, "No, Why?" I explained that she started the experience poorly with her "Seat yourself" tone. She said, "what else should I have said?" I simply stated, "It's how you say things." I then asked why she never offered a refill for my tea? She said, "you should have asked me." It's her job to ask me at least one if I need a refill or anything else! I then proceeded to ask her why now she was arguing with me about my poor experience. She explained that she has regulars and didn't really care if I felt this way.... Oh well. I hope she doesn't blow the two dollar tip all in one place.

Had the roast beef with gravy today.....perfecly fine.....though unremarkable given that this dish is highly touted...service was also just fine.....efficient, but not really friendly....much like Pennsylvania service everywhere else in the state ..no smiles or small talk from staff...which is OK ...not here to make friends.....cool old diner decor....if you live in Scranton....why not go? If passing through.....don't go out of your way.....

I have loved the glider for as long as I can remember- great breakfasts and normally more food than you can possibly eat in one sitting. However, it would be nice to sit at a table that doesn't slant to one side or move while you are eating.

  • Ian H.

Was in area for work. Stopped in for some breakfast. Home fries were cold. Had my empty cup on end of table entire time I ate - not once refilled. So far I've waited longer on my check than on service, that said food was quick, check has been 15 min in the making so far. Update: never quite got that check. Went to register anyways.

Large selection of food . The best pancakes around . You can have a nice meal for a very low price . Service is always great

I refuse to eat at this diner ever again. Staff is slow. They make no effort to clean tables when people are waiting to sit. One Sunday a group of us came in for brunch and we were waiting for a big table to be cleared for a while. We did not want anyone else to take the table (since you sit yourselves) and we watched as tons of flies flew around the scraps of food the party before had left. A visit by a health inspector in necessary

Who doesn't love a divey diner?? Perfect for a quick greasy breakfast at reasonable prices. The combo breakfast was huge, 2 eggs, potatoes, toast, ham, pancakes, $7.96!! Will come back!

I hate to even write this review because I have always loved the glider, but, the last 2 times I have eaten there have been bad experiences. The food is still great but the customer service on the part of the management is appalling. Last week, my husband, 16 month old, and I went for breakfast. We ordered her one egg scrambled and one pancake and it was almost 8 dollars, the same price as a breakfast combo with pancakes, eggs, bacon, and toast! The waitress told me (after we got the bill) that they had to be 2 separate orders because the restaurant recently changed their menu and computer system. I should have read the menu more closely but I was upset she didn't point this out to me. Today, we went again. All 3 of us ordered meals and I asked for a smaller additional plate for the baby's eggs. They told me I would need to pay a plate charge! Are they kidding? Our waitress was lovely but I am really turned off by the glider. There are lots of other places to go for breakfast and the food isn't good enough to put up with nonsense over plate charges and overcharging children. Sorry this was so long.

Hot roast beef and fries with gravy is something I go and get each time I return to Scranton. Great diner food. Wonderful staple of NEPA.

The Glider has been around forever with good reason. The food is great at great prices. There's a reason President Obama ate here on his first campaign trail. Breakfast is served all day long. They are famous for their roast beef but I prefer the turkey. Nothing wrong with roast beef. If you're eating a late dinner, have plenty of choices. They've been known to run out at the end of the day.

Holy cow. Amazing breakfast. Great omlette, incredible corned beef hash. Yum. Yum. I was expecting a greasy hole-in-the-wall, but got much better.

Classic diner food and experience! As the only vegetarian in my family of 6, i was a bit concerned about the selection that they might offer - but I had the best veggie burger ever in this place. They also had lots of traditional diner fare for everyone else, served fast and hot by an efficient staff. Real food for a little more than you would pay for fast food. Will definitely visit again.

Really upset. Decided to give it one more go since the past 2 times we've gone whatever we ordered they " were out of it". Nothing different although my husband requested 3 different things after being told each that he requested was not available any longer! It was only 6:00 pm. Also the service was not the best. Seemed like we were a bother to the server. Really disappointed as we have enjoyed going in the past.

My local friends introduced me to the Glider during my fourth year at MU. Honestly I'm glad I didn't know about it sooner because my waistline would have doubled. Everything is good. The staff is friendly and the prices are so reasonable. The hot roast beef truly is the best, hands down. I even brought my family here when they were in town for graduation. The staff cheerfully accommodated the group of 8 and, although the place was packed, managed to get us tables together fairly quickly. It's much larger than you would think from the street. At least half of my family had the hot roast beef based on my recommendation and they were all very happy with it. Everyone else was happy with their meals too! I make a point to stop when I visit NEPA.

I have yet to go to the Glider Diner and not get violently ill afterwards. I've ordered a variety of things on the menu, and have gotten sick every time. The food is typically very greasy (even the pancakes!) so I assume everything goes on the same grill. People rave about this place, but I don't understand the appeal. Although I don't expect "fine dining" at a diner, I've been to several who have had much better food than the Glider. If you want cheap food that's NOT saturated in butter and oil, I'd go elsewhere.

    (1)
  • Kevin P.

Cheap food at cheap prices. Coffee is pretty bad for a diner, pancakes tasted plain, and sausages were burnt horribly. My girlfriend and I were not at all impressed with our meal and will not be returning. Plus it's a major hipster hangout.... Like the tight jean, thick rim glasses hipsters.

Loved it! This place has all you want in a diner including a side that has the typical diner area with booths and a sitting bar, while they had a dining room area in the back. I got the roast beef (sirloin tips) entree that came with fresh green beans, potatoes (french fries), and 3-4 small rolls. The reason I went to this diner was that I heard the gravy was delicious and I found those rumors to be true. That was the gravy my grandmother from the midwest use to make. OMG! Even better is that on your potatoes, you can get cheese, chili, and/or gravy. I got all 3 and the waitress never had that ordered in all the years she worked there. My suggestion would be to show her there are others who want to stop their heart for a couple of heartbeats. Glider is great if you want a cheap meal, though service is in no rush to get you in and out.

They have good food diner food here and for decent prices. I'm not a fan of roast beef, but I have many friends who say the open face roast beef with gravy is amazing. Its a good place for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. The place is usually pretty busy. The downfall: always feels cramped inside and their bathrooms suck.

Me: "I'll have a water with lemon" Rude Waitress: "Tap or Bottled?" Me: "Tap please" Rude Waitress: "I can't give you lemon with Tap." I should have just walked out then, but my family really wanted to eat there so I just said "That's fine." If I am spending 7 dollars on a meal, is it really such a problem to give me a tiny slice of lemon? Anyways, the food was decent, it was not as good as I remembered it though. The French Fries with gravy were a highlight for me, but the Cheeseburger Sub could have been a lot better.

The Glider Diner is a great place for those Saturday/Sunday morning hankerings for someone else's home-cooked food. My fiance and I go here for breakfast on occasion, and we always leave feeling satisfied, and usually overly stuffed. I often get the usual, western omelet, American cheese, side of home fries, and wheat toast, but today I wanted to go out with a bang! Hello Farmer's Omelet, fancy meeting you here. Everything a western omelet has to offer plus potatoes IN the omelet! Does it get any better than that?? Well yes it does... just add on a side of home fries too, what the hell, it's breakfast time, the most important meal of the day! When the plate came out the size of 2 dinner plates put together to make one large, massive plate, I was nothing short of excited. It was everything I hoped for and then some. My fiance Jay wanted to take the same approach and order something that would get him right through lunch to dinner, so he went with the french toast (made with sour dough bread, smothered in syrup with a heaping side of soft butter, yum!) and a ham, egg & cheese sammy on a hard roll (hard roll = Scranton slang for a very soft, fresh round roll). Everything was cooked to perfection! Our bill came to something around $15.00 and it certainly held us over until dinner :)

We had a tasty meal at the Glider with a group of people and were pleased with the service, food and vintage stainless steel diner. The bacon I had was some of the best I've had in a long time, and they even let our group stay a while longer to chat while they were closing up- sweet! retroroadmap.com/2010/11…

Yesterday we had lunch at the Glider with twelve other people; we met there from various locales in NY, PA & CT. I had a vegetarian omelet and they didn't even charge extra for egg whites. The omelet was just "fair" and it only had two eggs, but it came with delicious rye toast and it cost less than $5. I also got an order of sweet potato fries, which were *terrific* - and the portion was quite substantial for less than $3. My husband said his tuna melt sandwich was tasty, but the coffee was lousy. Our server was fairly pleasant and also humorous, although somewhat harried (and certainly it's rather difficult handling such a large group). They set up a large table for us in one of the back rooms (the diner is *much* larger than you'd ever guess from the front) and we sat there for more than two hours. Of course, we tipped very generously. :)

The Glider is a classic but overrated. I can't imagine food being more bland. There's a certain consistency to the service and food so I can see the appeal but I don't know why anyone would come here regularly for anything aside from breakfast. The best part is that as soon as you get home you need to change clothes because you smell like the Glider Diner.

Great local diner. Great waitresses. Good coffee. Have had breakfast and diner and both were great. The food tastes home cooked. In the pic I've uploaded you see french toast, sausage links, and a big plate of home fries.

For diner food, this is a great place. I usually go there late at night for steak and eggs. The food hits the spot every time. And it's super cheap to eat there. I prefer it over chicks diner

Stayed in Scranton on my way to the Finger Lakes the other weekend and we were looking for breakfast on our way out of town. I was trying to convince my brother and his GF that Perkins was the way to go, as the front desk at our hotel told me that it was on our way out of town and I used to love going to Perkins with my grandma when I visited her back in the day. My Brother would have none of it and solicited the advice of the parking lot attendant for a better spot. He directed us to Glider, and I'm glad he did. It was a cute little diner with tasty and insanely good priced food there. I had french toast for $2.50! The Juke Box, was pretty sweet too. The eggs were really good and the coffee was yums too. The bacon was fatty and soft, just like you would imagine it to be. I highly recommend this diner and wish it was sitting outside of my apartment so I could go there every day this weekend.

If you love classic diners, you'll love the Slider. It's not a five-star fine dining restaurant, but it is a five-star diner. Easy access from almost any of the highways around Scranton, via the central expressway. Very cute classic style, nice staff, tasty food, super-cheap. Definitely try a Texas Wiener if you haven't had one before.
