First, all the pastries were left out to come to room temperature...and with that said, I am nominating Carmellas for worst baked goods ever! I was pissssssed when we got back to my friends place and tried each of the three (3) pastries we got. They didn't look it in the case but they were 3-4 days past shelf life. Old Old Old, how old you ask? To the point of being almost petrified as in "petrified wood" I paid almost 20 bucks for that ..... ! The Lobster claw was choked full of custard ... it was so old it was like Elmer's Glue after being left out too long. The almond tart was like a dense almond cookie, it should have been soft. The sfogliatelle outer flaky layers of the shell were so hard they virtually (no joke) hurt the inside of my mouth. I was so desperate for the inside pate filling, I succumbed to trying to bring my sfogliatelle back to life by microwaving it. It kinda/sorta worked but then I found out it had no candied fruit inside and b4 getting it I asked and was told they were filled with bits of candied fruit. The ladies at the counter are ........... a total trip. But not worth the journey there or expense!

This place belongs in an episode of Seinfeld. The sandwiches and pastries are out of this world, but the women behind the serving counter are rude and downright mean and nasty. I don't pull out the racism card lightly, but my white husband always, always, always gets better service than I do. Here's my dare, regardless of the color of your skin: Order one of their pre-designed specialty subs but ask them to add or subtract something.

Top notch hoagies and daily specials, the Peanut Butter Pie is by far the best dessert I've ever had! Tons of tasty Italian pastries and sodas. Great spot, they close early though

My sandwich..."the invader" was very bland to say the least. I also found a pubic hair on my sandwich. I'm disappointed bc I heard really good reviews about the place....and then had a not so great experience. The only thing that was worth 3 stars was the chicken caesar salad...only bc fresh grilled chicken was on it....I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. If you want baked goods...go to international bakery.

Sliced to order meats and homemade mozzarella and homemade daily soups make this place top pick for amazing hoagies and soups and by far the best Italian pastries in the entire Scranton area !! The price might be a little high but you get what you pay for and its worth every penny. The staff was extremely friendly which was a huge improvement from my last visit which was a fail due to the rude woman behind the counter. I highly recommend this place !!!

The hoagies are great but not worth the horrible service by the owners!! I called to order and pick up hoagies and the woman that answered the phone sighed and rudely told me to hold on. After a few minutes of holding and listening to her have a conversation in the background, dropping the F-bomb while I sat on the phone waiting for her to care about a customer that wants to order food, I hung up and called Pepper's pizza! I will NOT go back to Carmella's again and would NOT recommend them!!!

We purchased some baked goods at La Festa Italiana on Sat. nite, 9/3/11. Even tho all of the pastries were in chilled cases, it seemed that they succumbed to the heat today. You could build a brick wall w/their Napoleon's. The almond horns w/dipped-chocolate ends were burned & hard. What an expensive let-down.
