Their cow cheek tacos are divine, and I definitely recommend them! Put some yummy green chilli sauce on the side, and bam!

The portions are large and the prices are reasonable. The service is very helpful and friendly. We ordered and the food came out fast. The food was delicious :-) the ambiance is comfy and feels like if you're eating in a restaurant in Mexico.

We attempted to try this place after a long week of work and we're super excited. We arrived never were offered drinks - then we found out guess what?!?!? They don't sell alcohol - but that was the least of the issues we ordered nachos to start while we made up our mind and the nachos had cheese wiz on them - seriously?!?!?!? We left and tried somewhere else - unless your starving I'd say avoid

Great huaraches always fresh, there is a wait since they make food when it's ordered but service could be better I do like that the made the place bigger it's more comfortable for dinning in but servers need to be more hospitable

Found it on restaurant.com app with discount. Spent around $20 for two. Enjoyed the meal.

My friend who lives in the area showed me this place. We came for the guacamole but stayed for the tequila! The bartender had knowledge of the more high end tequilas that they sell. It was a great way to get a hearty yet light snack in your belly, and have a couple drinks to get yourself going then hop on to the next bar.

When I left Jersey City Heights after more than two years, I worried that the street taco vendor, the bodegas and the incredible down-the-street burrito place I left behind would never be replaced. And they haven't. They've been one-upped. From their refrigerator cases full of delicious real-sugar soft drinks to a menu featuring many different kinds of meat options - pork stomach or beef tongue, anyone? - for their incredible dinners, it feels like I just can't tell enough people what an incredible place this is especially IN Reading. There isn't the pretentiousness of the "do you have reservations?" places *cough Ugly Oyster* *cough Canal Street Pub,* just a down-to-earth place that serves awesome food and is open late. Go. Try it. You're going to like it.

Stopped in for a lite bite to eat. Clean laid back atmosphere. Menu in English and Spanish. Easy to order. Food is excellent. Ordered a chorizo burrito and a chicken taco. Had both red and green salsas. We're coming back for a full dinner. Best Mexican food I have had in Reading. Highly recommended.

I have never had authentic Mexican food and have always wanted to try. I was a little weary about this place because of where it's located...but we were blown away! First the guacamole was excellent! I got fajitas (I decided to stay simple) but they were very good. Everyone else loved their meals. Can't wait to come back.

I'm from New Mexico, born and raised and am some what of a Mexican food snob. I've lived in the Reading area for the past 10 years and have never been able to find anything at all comparable to the true Mexican food I grew up eating. My husband brought me here for Mothers Day this week and we were blown away by the food. The service was great too, friendly and prompt. We had traditional chips and salsa along w pico de gallo. Great flavor. We each had tacos, my husband had the tongue, I had Cactus and chorizo. The kids were pleased too, my 7 year old ordered the shrimp ceviche and really liked it. Portions are huge! We will be back!

As of September 2014, this location may also still have a truck, but it's also an eat-in restaurant in the thriving city shopping center on Oley Street. I would recommend this place to anyone. Our server was friendly and professional, the place was clean, and the food was outstanding. I had the pollo en mole, and it tasted like I was back in Mexico. Chips and salsa were complimentary, fresh corn tortillas came with my meal, and the rice and beans were as delicious as the main dishes themselves. There were a few signage issues--they advertised aguas frescas when we walked in, but didn't have any--but overall, it was a delightful and authentic experience. Definitely my new first choice for Mexican in Reading!

Excellent authentic tacos...the hauraches are ludicrously huge, and delicious. Only Mexicans in the dining room, so you know it's the real deal. PS- parking was ample.

Yes, ditto on CS's assessment of this taco truck. For work, I get to travel a lot and I adore taco trucks. So I have probably been to at least 75 different taco trucks in different cities across the country. Whoda thunk a taco truck in Reading would have solid grub? Sure surprised me too! When I parked in the parking lot, other patrons were coming and going. I was the only non-Latino, so that tells you something about this food. I like to eat where the locals eat. The correlation is that if you want good Chinese food, go where you see a lot of Asians eating. Here it was lots of Latinos. I had the cabeza, lengua, tripe, carnita and chorizo versions this afternoon. Based on the previous reviewer's input, I asked the nice lady to hold the jalapenos but please provide some tomatillo sauce in the side which she did. When the tacos arrived 12 minutes later, all the meats were moist. I consider this to be the most important part since many tacos trucks are traveling kitchens and they precook the meat only to be reheated later on a griddle in the truck. This process dries out the meat something awful. But not at el Carreton! So if you're passing through Reading (like I was on business), do yourself a favor and stop by. The speak fluent English and make a nice product. Who the hell would eat Taco Bell when you can get this grub fresh for $1.50 a piece? You'll thank me afterwords.

If you're looking for authenticity, look no further. The menudo is amazing along with all other menu items. I recommend taking sufficient cash for payment. Afterwards, you can go across the street to El Gallo grocery store and pick up some great Mexican pastries. Reading should be glad they have these great places available.

Just finished lunch here. I was very pleased. I had pork tacos and a relleno. The relleno was kind of bland and not as crisp as I would have liked. I probably wouldn't get it again but the tacos were terrific. The staff were very friendly and it was nice that they had Aguas Frescas. Very authentic and I would definitely recommend this place.

This no longer a truck but one of the nicer authentic taquerias in reading. I go with co workers every week and have yet to be disappointed. The most amazing and authentic Mexican food!! It's a little easier to order, and try different food, if you speak Spanish- but not necessary. I know people who don't like Mexican but loved this place. Try the huarache (sp?) de chorizo con todos.

Food ok but credit card was skimmed for 1500.00 25 minutes after I left this establishment. Coincidence? Don't think so.

Pros: Chips and salsa both had a unique flavor that we enjoyed. Guacamole was fresh and served in a nice stone dish. Fajitas and enchiladas were very good. They provide plenty of tortilla shells for the fajitas. All ingredients were flavorful and prepared to our liking. Very nice size portions of food. Neither of us could finish our meals even though the food tasted great and we were very hungry. Competitive prices. The steak, shrimp, and chicken fajitas were $10 other places can cost nearly double that price. Staff was very friendly Restaurant was very clean and well decorated. They make a special milk with cinnamon drink on ice. Very addictive and helps neutralize any extra heat from the hot sauces. Cons: Chips were served at room temperature, instead of heated from the oven. Parking can be a little tricky and spaces are tight.

We've been to the truck and to the restaurant, which was just remodeled and looks almost as good as the food tastes. Our family, from the 2 year old on up, LOVES these tacos. We get 10 for $10 for a cheap and delicious dinner. Beans and rice are good too!

This is actually a taco truck in the C-Town Reading Shopping Mall. All tacos are $1.50 (chicken, steak, lengua, chorizo, chicharron, carnitas, nopales, tripa, cabeza, adobo, a few others) as was the horchata. Burritos, tortas, and a few other items are offered, but we were here for the tacos. Wait patiently as there will be a few people ahead of you ordering and/or picking up their made to order meals. It's hard to wait patiently when you're hungry and the smell is amazing, but try to be patient. It will take about 10 minutes for your food to be prepared after you order, but the wait is definitely worth it. For variety, we ordered steak, tongue, chorizo, chicharron, and carnitas with onions and cilantro. With the order comes a mild tomatillo sauce, roasted jalapenos which are incredibly hot, and limes (once you take a bite from the jalapenos, you'll be happy to have some lime to chew on as well as a sip of horchata to cool the tongue--these are definitely NOT the mild bell pepper variety, but burning hot jalapenosl yum!). Each of the tacos were excellent, but we decided to gorge ourselves and get 2 more chorizo tacos. We had to eat in the car (one family actually pulled the rear seat out from their minivan and propped that in front of the truck to eat). Total? $12 for 7 tacos and 1 horchata, tax included. There's a tip jar inside the window. Cash only. Seriously some of the best Mexican food we've had in years.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
