It's...um...okay. When I went in for dinner, the place smelled weird, like vinegar, and it really needed a shift-change cleaning. The salad bar was okay. The pepper pot soup was lumpy and not good at all. The portion of chicken parm was ridiculously huge, but a lot of it was fatty and gristly. The tiramisu cake was pretty darn good though. But I probably wouldn't go out of my way to go there again.

Classic American diner with delicious food and decent coffee. Both my wife and I enjoyed the Eggs Benedict, which was well portioned. We had the option of having fried onions in our home fries which was an interesting twist on a breakfast classic. The service was quick and polite, basically all you could ask for. If I'm ever in Reading again I know where I'm eating breakfast.

My mom and her husband eat here easily 3 times a week. Breakfast on weekends and a least one night during the week for dinner. The staff know them and treat them with respect. I think they really enjoy eating here. On this last trip home I ate here twice with them. One breakfast and one dinner. Due to my dietary needs there is really nothing I'm allowed to eat here haha but I tried my best and so did they. I give it 5 stars purely on the fact that they keep my mom happy. The food is typical east coast pa Dutch diner food and vibe.

This is one of my favorite places to get breakfast! We have been to many other places around the area for breakfast and this one is the best. The prices are cheap, great food and service. Also I would like to mention I never had to wait to be seated. They have a big dining area. Definitely will be back!

We live close by and venture here a few times a month. You really cannot beat the prices for the amount if food you get! One of the best diners around.

OMG if you like stuffed flounder, this is the place to go. Get this: TWO stuffed flounder servings, 2vegetables, soup and salad bar, ( which in itself is awesome), AND an appetizer, your choice of 6 steamed clams or 2 stuffed shrimp all for 9.50. I go on Fri, they have Mac and cheese, and THE BEST stewed tomatoes I have ever tasted. Their soups are wonderful! I love their flounder so much that it's the only thing I get when there! I am originally from the shore and have had many a stuffed flounder. The taste is fantastic. LOVE LOVE LOVE it...now I want to go, just thinking about it!

I stop in at least once a week as the prices and food make this my kind of place. On my last visit, just after 9 :30 PM, I ordered the Gyro platter with Greek salad, fries, cup of soup, and bread with butter. This is on the printed menu. I do not like the fries here, so I asked to "sub" them for onion rings. It was extra but worth it for me. I was able to get my own soup as the salad bar was still open and after I was done with my soup, my gyro and onion rings came out. No Greek salad or bread and butter? Another server had to get this for me and finally my server showed up with some bread and butter. In the past, I received my Greek salad and bread with my soup. But to have to ask for something that states it comes with the platter, printed on the menu....that is poor service and perhaps my server didn't intend for this to happen? I know she is a really nice person and this might have been an off night for her. I still left a decent tip and will be eating here until the moon burns out.

It's about 7:30 on a Friday night, and the reviews prompted us to try 61. Service was just okay. Food was touch and go. The lobster bisque on the soup and salad bar didn't have much flavor, and was only luke warm. The salad bar itself was just acceptable. Chicken Oscar and Tex-Mex chicken were good. Coffee was very good. I was amazed that they decided to run the vacuum while we were eating! What the heck, it's not like it was midnight. 61 just isn't all that.

Route 61 Diner has entered our regular rotation in the past couple of years. I like to say it's a couple of notches above other diner food. Anyone who skips this place, or other family run diners, for something like applebee's really does not know what they are missing. On top of that, most reasonably priced place you'll ever find. A couple of slight weak points - the service is generally quite good, but once in a while, we are stuck with a dud of a waitress, who seems to disappear for long periods of time when I have an empty soda glass. Also, while the soups are good, they are not great and lack variety - seems like the same 3-4 recipes in rotation without any creativity. On the other hand, 61 has a number of dishes that satisfy the aspiring foodie and should warrant your attention. You almost can't go wrong at 61, it's kid friendly, has a huge menu, and good prices.

Came in last night for the first time since I was a kid. Ordered breakfast and was sharing an order of wings. On the second wing I was eating, I noticed A FLY cooked into it. The first thing I did was laugh, thinking about the Yelp review to come. The second thing I did was take a picture. I showed the wing to the waitress, I believe her name was Rosa, and she took them back to the kitchen. A few minutes later she comes back and tells me they're making "fresh" ones. Like the wings I was served weren't fresh? Like I really want any wings after that? A place that serves food like that would probably just throw that single wing away and give me one more. I wasn't asked if I wanted to speak to a manager. I wasn't asked if I would like the wings taken off the bill. And they weren't. After we both already finished the rest of our meals, the "fresh" wings finally came out. So my girl just took them to go. The rest of the food was fine. Besides the wheat toast. It tasted stale. I thought, "how could a diner have stale bread?" But I guess they don't have enough customers who ask for wheat toast. I will avoid this place like the plague.

This is your typical Diner. Food comes fast and service is quick. Our waitress was friendly and kept our coffee topped off. It's a good place to get eggs, any meat and toast

I went in with senior citizens that I work with, one of which was having a birthday. We got great care and assistance, our waitress, Elizabeth, was right on top of things, very patient with us (coming back several times until we had our order, ordering additional drinks later, etc...this may seem like ordinary service, but with our group, let me tell you, it was much more than "ordinary"..lol) Our food was delish and portions are large! Salad bar looked all fresh and well kept up (it was a busy afternoon.) Prices are good, I think we spend about $27 not counting tip for 3 of us and 2 of us brought home food. She also came out with a surprise cupcake and candle and her and another waitress sang happy birthday to the birthday boy! That made his day! Growing up in the area, this was a regular spot, especially as teenagers. It's gone through several owners and name changes, but I think it's been Route 61 Diner for a while and it looks like they're doing things right! :)

You walk in to the usual dinner feel. You get the usual standard mass brewed coffee. I ordered French toast and two eggs. They were ok. If you are in the mood for a standard dinner this is an ok spot.

The Gyros are very good the service is diner style and friendly. The prices are very fair and the portions are big time. A diner is best judged by it's customer count and the Route 61 turns tables so the food is consistent and fresh. Did i mention , Try the Gyro....

We stopped here for lunch after finding this place on Yelp. The menu is standard diner fare and the prices are quite reasonable - if not down right cheap! My family of five had lunch for only $25! That really can't be beat (try to feed five for $25 at McD... almost impossible!) and the food was pretty good all around. I ordered a diner staple - a Monte Cristo - and it had to be one of the best I've had. Our waitress was quick to swap out my son's burger with another one when he discovered the first had cheese on it, thus rendering the good looking beef patty inedible *gasp* by his palette! Overall I'm glad we stopped here.

The family took a trip to Koziar's Christmas Village to commence the holiday season. The lights were amazing and sparked the kid inside of me. Afterwards we were starving and looking for some food. After a search through my GPS, we decided on Route 61 Diner as it was reasonably close. The staff was surprised that we had a party of 7 and didn't know what to do initially. Keep in mind that the place was almost empty so it was not a challenge. And the server that we had was a pain in the ass. An older woman with enough character to fill up the USA network's lineup for next year. My younger brother has a tank for a stomach so we went with a combo appetizer to start. The wings, mozzarella sticks, onion rings and chicken fingers were good. We commented on the fact that we really were eating all over the place as I ordered the Western omelet and my younger brother a Greek gyro. We all were satisfied and picked at some dessert. The chocolate peanut butter cake was fantastic. Finally, I experimented with the hot sauce and added some blue dressing, parmigiana cheese, BBQ sauce and syrup to it. On a bet with nothing at stake, my younger brother took a sip of it. And, so the holidays began.

As of this update, the diner is run by an amicable local Greek Orthodox family which is all kinds of cool because I'm Orthodox too! The kitchen is clean, busy and the food is great. Service can be hit or miss but you will not be disappointed. Check it out for an inexpensive but delightful dining experience.

my friend & i were here at past 10pm on a weekday a few days after Sandy & the northeaster Athena. the place wasn't crowded but it looked inviting from outside because of bright white lights inside. as soon as we have checked what's on the menu, we decided we would have rueben sandwich with potato fries each, and would share a huge plate of appetizers (onion rings, chicken, mozzarella sticks). nice & rich food, i have to say, which I always expect from diners like this one. i also had 3 mugs of hot coffee. the service was friendly and sincere. it's a 24-hour operation and I would see customers showing up as couples, and/or alone. and it seems like they know one another other. we missed the salad bar, which closes by 9pm. we'll probably be back as soon as we have the chance.

One thing I miss about not living in Reading anymore is the Route 61 diner. This place has had several name changes over the years, but it's always been a goodie. It's your typical diner grub, so you can pretty much get anything at any hour of the day. I usually have the same breakfast foods when I am here, so the creamed chipped beef and hashbrowns are my personal favorites.

This diner offers an broad breakfast selection at reasonable prices. It is very clean with good size booths and tables. Despite being packed, service was good. This was the first visit of our 4 person party. We had a three different omelets and I had traditional 2 eggs' home fries with bacon. We all agreed the food was very good and we will be back. Restrooms were clean and good size but the paper towel holder in the men's room was broken. There is a a good size parking lot.
