Anyone who gave this place 4 or 5 stars obviously hasn't been to Rey Azteca in Warrington!! It was my first time at this place and I don't think I will be returning! The service is soo slow, food NEVER comes out hot you can only hope for luke warm nothing has a bang if it wasn't for my coupon It wouldnt have gotten 1 star! The tastiest thing here was the pico de gallo after I squeezed some lime juice over it! My tex mex was blah and that was after I send my first dish back!

Authentic ---- Authenic OMG ever get out of rural PA. This place was all eye appeal, large pieces of chopped lettuce and blandness. Where's the taste pedro? When we were seated (we arrived around 7), the restaurant was maybe 3/4 filled with many empty tables, I asked for a table away from the crowd but we had 2 and that table had 4 chairs. The man sat us in a crowded area by a table of loud young kids and by someone trying to score points with his single mom date by going way overboard with her kid in a loud (to be noticed fashion). We know he got strike one by the food, strike 2 by his lameness and hopefully he struck out when he brought her home. BTW the table I asked for was still empty 70 minutes later as were many more tables. The decor was a bunch of mexican flags and paper cut outs hanging on the wall. There were no traditional colored lights and a few paper bells hanging from the lights. The food got worse. For appetizers we had the quesidillas fiesta. These were tortilas filled (lol) with a thin slice of cheese and I couldn't find the beef. The major accent was the huge slices of lettuce. - Avoid if you like food The chips they served were small in quanity and worse in quality. tasteless fried little nothings. Only the sauce was worse than the taste of these. Avoid more. I got two of their weekend special tamales. She got one. The first one (chicken) was doughy and tasteless. The chicken with mole sauce was a tad better but don't pay money for this tasteless garbage. I got the pork chops as I know mexico has more than tex mex tacos. I should have gotten the tacos except at taco bell. I got two thin sliced pork chops not cooked in sauce but covered with green sauce and not the tomatoes, red onions and poblano peppers in the menus. A bunch of white onions in bland green sauce instead. She got carne campiquiia. I asked about these and the servers couldn't describe these. The steak wasn't bad as it was the only nice thing we had. The helper brought out tortilas as an afterthought 3/4 of the way through our meal. For dessert we got the creme broulee cheesecake. It was ok but far from great. Overall, this was the true montezuma's revenge as it was over priced for the quality, bland tasting chopped lettuce. I know this is Doylestown, but I am sure there is a taco bell close by. No decor, worse food and a lousy host not concerned with the patrons. You may like it , but then my take is that you have never had authentic food, just an authentic rip off.

Was there tonight. Service was painfully slow. After being seated and given chips and salsa by the person who seated us we then waited well over 10 minutes for a waitress to come to our table. After ordering nachos and drinks, she came back and delivered the drinks but didn't see her again for 20 minutes. Very unusual as it seemed no one person was waiting on us. Someone brought us our nachos; more on that later. When the waitress finally did come back, she tried to give us more nachos that we had already gotten and eaten?! Someone else brought us our dinner. Then another person got us napkins. Yet another brought us our check. Then someone else brought us another check that wasn't ours! Very odd. Salsa is not what I'd call salsa. It's like a verde sauce. Incredibly watery, thin and bland. I really don't mind if it's thin, but it should taste like something! Chips were ok - not the best I've had. Nachos were only $4.50 so I shouldn't have expected much, but still bad. They had so little cheese it was ridiculous! A little bit more refried like bean sauce. Then a TON of lettuce. Topped off with maybe 10 small cubes of tomatoes the waitress called their pico de gallo! Worst of all - a squeeze tube of sour cream on top - barely enough to add any kind of moisture; that came from all the lettuce. Luckily enough, I ordered the Quesadilla Jefe as recommended by reviewers and it was a very large portion and very, very good. However, they said nothing about it coming with quac. I like quac but I had ordered a side of it unnecessarily and wished I'd had known. Desserts are all purchased elsewhere and not homemade. When I asked about homemade desserts, the woman who asked us if we wanted dessert apparently couldn't speak English. She expected us to point to the preprinted menu and was unprepared when we asked questions. She had to come back to tell us only flan was homemade. I love flan, but since I wasn't thrilled with much else, I decided to skip theirs. We went elsewhere for dessert. If they had a more efficient staff, had more accurate details on their menu, and were a tad more generous with their toppings on food - this could be a really great place. I wouldn't not go again, but I wouldn't go out of our way (like we did tonight) to go there.

In a land of chains, blandness and mediocrity that sums up too much of the food that is served in the greater Doylestown area, there lies a gem of a little restaurant... El Mariachi. For me I treat it like a Mexican taquiera.. I almost always order the mexican tacos (corn tortillas warmed on the stove with meat onion and cilantro... ) and perhaps a tamale on the weekend. They have more than the carne asada and the tinga to fill your taco as well.. chorizo, lengua and sometime barbacoa can be your filling. Top them with a little salsa verde and it is heaven. The restaurant is byo.. but they do serve Mexican coke and a full line of the Jarritos sodas. They lose one star for not having horchata. I would probably stay away from some of the higher priced dishes on the menu.. not a place to go for ceviche or a huachinango.. but don't walk.. run to El Mariachi for some authentic flavor.

So good and unpretentious. Great for groups, families and friends. Our favorite Mexican place! Try the black bean soup as a dip for chips. All the classics are well represented here. Deserts are so so but don't let that stop you - the meals are what count here. Also they have a Mariachi singer some nights - he's wonderful. Highly recommended.

Food was very good and authentic. Price is just right and it's byob, so bring your Tequilla. Service isn't great but don't let that stop you.

Went here the other day for a late lunch and the place was empty. We were told to take any seat which was nice. The decor is nothing special, but I didn't come for decor...I came for yummy authentic Mexican food and that exactly what I got. They had the guava soda that my bf likes which was a bonus. They coffee was good served fresh and hot. The chips were nothing special, but they were homemade and served with a very yummy salsa. The quesadillas were yum, the beef tongue tacos yum and the chili rellenos weren't too bad. My gripe was that there weren't really any homemade desserts besides flan which was too hot to order since it was just made. Some horchata on the menu would have been nice too!! The service was pretty speedy, but there were mistakes, hence only 4 stars. We will definitely be back.

This is definitely the best Mexican restaurant in town. Here is why I love this place (in no particular order): 1. They make authentic tomales (wrapped in corn husks) on the weekends that are delicious 2. It's BYOB, and if you bring tequila they will give you margarita mix 3.Quesadillas are outstanding. My personal favorite is the Queadilla Jefe. You will not leave hungry if you order this I've eaten something different every time I've been (going on 7 or 8 times now) Whether it was Tacos (some of the best I've ever had), pollo mi pueblito, fajitas or burritos, the food is phneominal. Note... I love food. This is not a "this restaurant is, like, way better than taco bell" review. It is authentic Mexican food, that's on par with (or even surpasses) El Vez in philly and is way better than pocos or other mexican fare in the area. They only take reservations for parties of 5 or more. While there are always people in there, we've never had trouble getting a seat.

The food is not bad but could be very good if they made a few changes. We started with a nacho platter. The meat was good but they put on too small of a plate which caused all of the toppings to be all over the table. A few shreds of lettuce and no sour cream or guacamole makes for an impotent nacho platter We ordered a side of guacamole but didn't get until half way through the dish. Which brings me to the service which was DEPLORABLE. The staff seems to be running the show. The server, who never introduced herself, and didn't cleared our plates away so the table was a mess. We payed for the food with a table full of dirty plates. Come on! As we were leaving the servers were sitting eating their dinner in the dining room! Our server said goodbye to us with a mouth full of food. PRETTY! They were not rude but poorly trained and that will have to rest on the owner because there is no manager in charge. The only dish we really liked was the chicken frajitas and the black beans. This is my second time going there and both times it was the SERVICE that was biggest problem.

the service here was crap! cold chips. tasteless salsa verde. server forgot to bring us our black bean soup. when it arrived, it was hot and bland. veg burrito was disappointing - like i got it from 7-11 shrimp fajita was really good with a lot of big shrimp (yay!) saved it from one star!

Great easy going local mexican joint. Has a very authentic feel and some great meat options. The lengua and salt cured beef is fantastic. For those that have never had lengua it tastes just like pot roast. The carnitas were fatty and gristly and should be skipped. Enchiladas and tacos are great. Gorditas are heavy and look small but are quite filling. Chicken tamale was dry and needed a sauce on top. Guacomole is okay and the chile verde salsa that they serve with the chips is addictive. They have a spicy red chipotle hot sauce that is made from scratch and is quite tasty. The rice is pretty good and the beans are ok. Prices were very low and reasonable in comparison to the other mexican restaurants in the area. If you're on the fence about going just go and remember that it's BYOB.

The food here is very good. Simple and basic. It's BYOB so it's very inexpensive. It's a great place to go with friends. Just walk in no reservations. I normally get the enchiladas Verde. I highly recommend it.

I thought I was never going to find good Mexican food in Bucks County, but I finally did. We have been back twice and are going again tonight. The food is excellent slightly Americanized (but not overly so) Mexican food. I had an aunt that owned and cooked for a Mexican restaurant, and have lived in California for a long time and Austin for not long enough. I know my south of the border food and El Mariachi has it all figured out. It was a special treat to find Chiles Rellenos. Now I have to remember to ask them if they ever do tamales... :) Update: Yes, they have tamales, all the time, and they are excellent. I upgraded my rating from a 4 to a 5 accordingly. :)

Great traditional food. Recently went to Mexico and this is much closer to the food there than other "Mexican" places in the area. Normally split a couple dishes, which is usually a seafood dish and a meat dish. The dishes are spicy, but not over the top. I'm sure they'll adjust to your preference if you ask. Staff is really friendly and will make you laugh especially if you ask a dumb question. Only complaint is that some dishes on menu aren't available since they want to keep things fresh and don't care some ingredients that aren't ordered often. Still everything that was available that we tried has been good. No bar, but BYOB is welcome. PA liquor store is down the street in the Plumsteadville shopping plaza and area taverns on 611 have take out beer.

Food is fantastic, service is horrendous! I'm vegan and I love their vegetarian burrito, no cheese. We like to order take-out from there and they mess our order up, constantly. They have added chicken, or added the cheese. Tonight my husband got there and waited 10 minutes, after me ordering it 30 minutes ago, finally going to the counter and they try to charge him $60 and give him someone elses order. They admitted that they gave our order to someone else. Ugh! I've also told them in the past about the mess ups and they have never credited our order or given us anything free. Despite liking the food, it's just not worth the headache anymore.

This place is a hidden gem in a tiny small town shopping strip. It's the best Mexican place in the 10 mile radius. It is spacious with some cool live music by a guy playing the guitar. The food is good, I've especially enjoyed the chorizo quesadillas and chicken gorditas. The restaurant is also byob with complimentary margarita mix! I've seen pretty nice crowds of people on the weekends and there were people coming in for takeout left and right.

El Stinko Not Authentic. Not good. Just plain bad cafeteria mexican. Nice server... Bad food.

Used to be good, now the dining room is dirty, portions have become small. They have lost their flair. Not many choices up that way.

This was just not good. I just spent $45. The kids meals are $7 a piece and it's just a tiny burrito cut in half. No rice, beans or drink. We were the only ones in the restaurant & the waiter never checked on us once so we sat with empty drinks most of the time. They only have green salsa and it's the thick stuff right out of the jar. Not even the tortilla chips were very good. My chicken taco was literally just shredded chicken with no seasoning whatsoever.

I should have planned ahead and picked up some beers before getting here as they do not serve any alcoholic beverages. Not that I need a Dos Equis every time I bite into a burrito but the wait for the food was a little longer than expected. Nothing fancy about the interior but very clean and the staff were super friendly. Prices were a little higher than I expected but easy to get to when you know where it is and they allow you to byob.

Average strip mall Mexican. Chips and salsa verde 3 stars. Guacamole 3.5 stars. Margarita mix 1 star - being generous. Chicken enchiladas 2.5 stars. Tex Mex salad 2 stars. Waitress attitude 3.5 stars.

This is your Hispanic food restaurant of the area. Good place to eat if you are interested in good food and amazing salsa. They will always give you more salsa if you ask for it. They work with a promotional group called "belly", which prompted me to give someone there a high five. Apparently enough high fives will earn me a free appetizer or something similar. Great for takeout. Great for kids. Byob but the price is right the kind of food you are served. The esthetic is cool considering its location in a strip mall between a post office and a hair dresser. The wall mural is pretty cool as well. Great thing for playing I-spy with your young ones. If you hungry and in the area. Please go here!

I've wanted to go to Mariachi's for quite a while and was excited to finally be able to go. The restaurant claims it serves authentic Mexican food, which I love. I've had the good fortune to visit Mexico many times and I was hoping to get that experience closer to home. Unfortunately I was less than impressed. The interior decor is dated and cosmetically in need of an update, but I've been to enough hole in the walls to know the food is what makes the place. The menu is expansive, which is a plus. The problem is that the food I had wasn't good. We were greeted immediately upon entering and sat down quickly. A waitress took our drink orders right away and brought chips with salsa verde. The chips were ok but the salsa verde was tasteless with the consistency of water. I ordered a side of guacamole to go with the chips. The guacamole was fresh and had a nice taste. We ordered combo fajitas, chicken chimichangas, and a side of refried beans. Our food was served within a decent amount of time, but we were not given silverware or napkins and there was no plate for the fajitas - we had to ask for all of it. The fajitas were bland, with no seasoning whatsoever. The steak was crunchy and the peppers were mushy with an acidic aftertaste. The chimichanga was ordered with mole sauce. The mole sauce tasted like thick old coffee and completely covered and saturated the chimichanga. The menus said it would be topped with onions and sour cream. There were no onions and I had to ask for sour cream. The chimichanga itself was bland, lacking in seasoning and flavor. I love authentic refried beans, which is why I ordered them as a side. They tasted as if they came from a can, the consistency was off and like everything else the beans lacked in seasoning and flavor. I am really disappointed. I was really hoping that this could be my new local go-to for a yummy authentic Mexican meal. Unfortunately I'll need to keep looking.

I use to go to El Mariachi about every month or so when ever I was in the area and in the mood for some decent Mexican food. I began to notice a lack of quality in the last couple of visits, but, this last one really sealed it for me. Here's the list and the food is at the bottom of it. Flies everywhere. Floors were tacky almost greasy. Bathrooms were dirty The tables were barely clean. Salt pepper shakers and hot sauce bottles were sticky. Food was very bland But, here's the real kicker... Our server was walking past our table with a dish of chips. We asked her if she could bring us some as well. Bless her heart, she just reached in with her bare hand and shoveled some into our dish. If this is the kind of training our waitress had, who knows what they are doing in the kitchen. Sorry, but, that's it for me.

Hmmm. Don't know what to say about this place. The don't have Horchata which is a big let down for being a "authentic" Mexican restaurant. I had the tacos which were good, but nothing to write about! Would I get them again, probably not. I'm not even sure if I would go back as there are a lot better options within 20min from Doylestown. The chips could have been warmed up and the default salsa could have had some heat. They have hot salsa upon request. This place seems like they want to be "authentic" but have to cater to the white rednecks in the area which takes away from their potential.

Delicious Mexican food and very friendly staff. I'm originally from Southern California and am pretty picky about Mexican food. For the last 20 years I lived in NYC and in northern Brooklyn, where there are dozens of Mexican takeout places, none were as good as El Mariachi. We just moved to the Plumsteadville area and were thrilled to find this place! Taking off one star only for the restaurant decor and ambience which could use a little update, otherwise really impressed with the food quality, speed, friendliness and prices. Excellent!

Authentic Mexican food for a reasonable price. Love the service and the Mole Chimichanga! I'm not brave enough to try the Cactus and Beef Tongue though. Bring your own tequila, they provide the mix.

My husband and I just love it here. Great service, wonderful food , low prices, byob. The staff is always friendly and pleasant, a plus especially on those days that were a wee bit too much stress. The food is authentic and delicious. If you haven't tried it yet; do!

Have been here several times. My personal favorites were the chicken tortilla soup and the enchiladas verde. My last two visits have been a complete disappointment. It seems as though recipes have changed and waitstaff reprogrammed. I don't think I will be back!

I've given El Mariachi a couple chances so far...here are my conclusions: -I wouldn't call it 100% authentic mexican but it's not tex-mex either. It's somewhere in between. -The salsa is just okay -The menu is expansive which is a plus -The service is generally good -It's a big place it's usually not hard to get a seat -The food is okay...about average but nothing truly impressive -Prices are reasonable It's not a place I think of right away when I want Mexican food but it's a decent option for the area.

Always a great meal. Fair prices and nice atmosphere the chef's really good my family's vegetarian and they go out of their way to accommodate them. Making changes on dishes and still keeping the taste. I also like the chips and salsa that they even offer me when I wait for take out. What a pleasant surprise that they treat take out people like customers. Thanks

Love this place. BEST Mexican food around Doylestown. Everything on the menu is fresh, full of flavor, and authentic. This place is BYOB which is A++ for me. You'll spend $25-$35 + bottle of wine for two people and really enjoy yourself. Service is friendly, maybe a little inexperienced, and the decor, ambiance, and location of the restaurant leave some to be desired, but that is not why I go to El Mariachi. Love the food. They offer take out so you can enjoy it in the comfort of your home if you don't like their dining room. If El Mariachi was located in a more aesthetically pleasing strip mall (or anywhere else, honestly) it would be much more successful. A true "hole in the wall". If you haven't eaten there and are looking for GREAT Mexican food - El Mariachi is where it's at! RECOMMEND!!

What is with the service?! It's either they're really slow and lazy OR they were extremely understaffed that night. Waiting waiting waiting... dirty tables waiting to be cleared... patrons waiting to be served... us waiting to be acknowledged and seated. Waiting to get our menus. Waiting for silverware. Waiting to get our waters. Waiting for our orders to be taken. Waiting an hour for our appetizer. Waiting for our entrees (which was luckily tasty although my bistec was a bit dry and overcooked, the guacamole was very good tho). Waiting for hot sauce (did not have tapatio or cholula). Waiting waiting waiting.... I think the only thing they were quick on was the check! Hmph. I'd give them another try just to see if it was one of their crazy "off" nights - luckily we were not in a rush to go anywhere because a 3-hr dinner is awfully long!

Fresh and authentic. Prices are better than Sarape in next town. Love it!

  • Jamey G.

El mariachi wasn't awful but it wasn't anything to right home about. The guacamole was all right but I have had better. The salsa verde and chips were decent. However, all three entrees that we had were pretty bland. It wasn't that they tasted bad. It was more like they had no seasoning. (Chicken chimichanga, chicken enchilada, and the veggie enchilada). My recommendation - Don't do it.

Authentic Mexican food at reasonable prices. Very spacious and comfortable dining rooms for families and large parties. Portions are large and well presented. The owners are on the premises and their staff is very friendly. My wife asked about a dish we once had in Mexico and they just made it for us even though it wasn't on the menu, that surely made our day. If you're in the Doylestown area, look no further, this is the best Mexican restaurant around. Alcohol is not served, so don't forget to BYOD. They also offer a take-out menu.

Great authentic Mexican food like they serve in Mexico! I had the tacos and they were incredibly good! I plan on keeping this restaurant in my rotation. 5- stars!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
