Great byob place with the best price around. The only minus is that it gets slow once they get 4 or more tables because of the staff shortage. More like a family restaurant, not too fancy. Thanks for great food

Everything from the sushi to the egg rolls and berg on a stick is expertly prepared and undeniably fresh. Fair pricing as well! Highly recommended.

The chicken lo mein was probably some of the best lo mein I've had! Fast delivery too.

Let me be the first to say that Ume No Hana is an excellent sushi restaurant to go to if you're looking for cheap, yet satisfying sushi! On weekends, including Fridays, they have half off select sushi, including nigiri (which is the sushi where the raw fish is on top of the rice) and sashimi (which is the sushi that is just raw fish without anything else). They also have the traditional rolls in their half off sushi as well! The employees are very friendly and greet you as soon as you walk in. Their service is responsive and fast to react. Their decor isn't the best but because of the other positives about this restaurant, I will forgive them! I don't see much traffic when I go in, EVER. It's a sad thing really, I hope more people will recognize this hole in the wall restaurant. I normally don't give that many 5/5's, but I am sure, because of the half off sushi, I must! And I must say, the sushi is pretty fresh for being half off!

We went on a Sunday afternoon around 1pm. The food was good but we had a really long wait (there was only one person to roll). Just a note..don't get the avacado boat (appetizer) its just a halved avacado with chucks of fish in a creamy (mayo-like) sauce. I did NOT like it. But the rest of the food was pretty good...and really cheap Like $4 rolls (but this might be a grandopening special)

The worst sushi experience EVER. Yes, it's cheap, but you get what you pay for.

I have been back and not had the same great experience. Service is still way too slow. And, this time i went with a larger group and had the chance to taste things other than I usually order. I hate to report that everything is not up to par. I'm sorry to say, but this place is hit or miss.

Affordable and tasty sushi not to mention all the entrees! I absolutely love this place--not only is it kind to your wallet but the service to match. The servers and hosts are friendly and attentive. Also a great go to spot with friends. I've recently moved out of state and will miss this place a lot!! Oh did I mention it's also BYOB !

Delicious & Cheap! The spider roll is fantastic, not fishy at all. The ocean roll (I think) is freakin delicious- tempura shrimp and spicey tuna is a fabulous combo. Its down the street from my house so I come here often and love the way regulars are greeted.

my favorite sushi spot! 50% off all the time with an extensive menu. my top picks are the egg sushi, inari sushi, & eastern roll. they also offer brown rice which is a huge plus for me. sometimes the wait can be a little long, especially if there's a crowd (which there usually is during peak eating hours). but the food is so good & cheap it is worth the wait!

Very good sushi. I would highly recommend Ume No Hana. Great sashimi and fun rolls.

This place rocks. Their half price sushi is the cheapest in town, and it's really, really good.

    (5)
  • Jen W.

Amazing sushi. And the best part? Its literally HALF THE PRICE! I can order twice the amount of sushi for the same cost. This is especially great for me since I like to eat different entrees and don't want to order only one type of meal.

I don't really write reviews but I have to rave about this place. I live in NYC but whenever I visit my family in Philly, I have to stop by Ume No Hana. Sushi is so cheap and fresh! My favorite is the Pearl River roll. Can't find that anywhere! Waitstaff is also super nice and tentative.

The prices are reasonable but the freshness of the fish is questionable. Have been there many times and can say that if you don't want to spend money than it would be a rite place,

This place was great! I had the dragon and the Phoenix, which was general tso's and shrimp over vegetables. great service!

  • Tara G.

Cheapest sushi in town, and the chinese food is surprisingly amazing. My husband ordered general tso's chicken (he's not a fish guy) and it was seriously the best I've ever had, anywhere. The staff is also very warm and accomodating, especially with regulars such as myself. Definitely try it if you can! Also, they now offer the half-price sushi deal all day, every day for dine in!!

My boyfriend and I ate here one night a few weeks ago. We actually hopped online to find an updated menu and the first thing that popped up was Yelp, after reading the reviews, we were super excited...and it did not disappoint! We placed our order through grubhub.com - where if you spend $25 you got a free appetizer, and seeing how our order was at $22 and some change, we opted in for some beef fried rice to get a free order of steamed shumai! We ordered boneless spare ribs, large order of general tso's (medium spicy), shumai, beef fried rice, and crab rangoon. My boyfriend informed me before he even ate the spare ribs that he didn't like boneless, however, 15 minutes later, they were devoured. He said they were amazing and some of the best he's ever had. The general tso's was the best I've ever had in this area. Every single piece was crispy and had a slight crunch to it. Shumai was fantastic, and the dumplings were a bit bigger than you normally see. I can't speak for the beef fried rice because he inhaled it as a late night meal. And the crab rangoon, I was not crazy over, but he loved them. I think they were great, I just have weird preferences when it comes to food. Definitely a must go to!

This place is very good. The prices are very reasonable and the service was fast and excellent.i couldn't believe the selection of sushi they have on their menu. It took me like 8 minutes to figure out what sushi I wanted. For my meal I ended up getting the sushi with a combination platter of general t'sos chicken, fried rice, egg roll. The sushi was prepared to perfection and plated beautifully and the combo platter was delicious and very satisfying. Also they have free wifi which is great! The only thing that I thought was okay was the decor of the restaurant, it had a plain feel to it. Other than that I would absolutely recommend this restaurant, to everyone, especially for whoever is on a budget but still wants to get the authentic Chinese/Japanese food/feel to them.

Despite the fact that I walked in relatively early (probably around 11:45am), was the only customer in the restaurant, and there was no one there to seat me right away upon my entrance, I did not have to wait too long to be seated. In addition, I happened to come in when their half-price sushi lunch special was going on, so the price was unbeatable and I also got a bowl of egg drop soup on account of the ridiculously cold weather. I settled on the Dynamite Roll (cooked tuna, salmon, and whitefish; though I ordered mine without the spicy mayo) and the Pearl River Roll (shrimp tempura, crab stick, and cream cheese wrapped in pink soybean paper) and was more than content with my decision. I'd definitely stop in again en route to or from the train station or even order take-out from here.

I am probably the worst person to ask for sushi recommendations. This is due to the fact that I do not eat anything that breathes water. With that said I enjoyed the veggie sushi that I got here. There were a couple more creatives ones and they were nice and fresh. Since I don't eat fish sushi always seems like an over priced rip off for me, but since they have a half price menu it was not so bad. We ordered the tempura string bean fries as an app. Don't bother there was no flavor the batter and the sauce provided was a mix of mayo & horseradish. The are terribly understaffed. We came on a Friday night around 6pm and they got slammed shortly after to the point of needing to take a person of the sushi bar to wait tables. So that increased sushi wait times. They are located in walking distance from about 4 apartment complexes (and a couple of retirement condos). So I am not sure why they would not be expecting to be slammed on a Friday night. With more staff the dine in experience would be worth the cheap sushi.

Ordered from here on Grubhub the other night. I'm really trying to find good Chinese in my area and Im seem to be stuck surrounded by just average places. Unfortunately, I think this place falls under the category of average as well. Let's review. Delivery: the food was easy to order and super quick! I give them props on their delivery. They came about 15 minutes faster than they said they would and the food came nice and hot. Great option if you want food fast. The meal: I ordered the General Tso and an eggroll. My brother ordered the sesame chicken. I felt the portions were small. And while the food was hot, I didn't find my General Tso's to have much of a crunch or an amazing flavor. It wasn't bad. It just wasn't great. As far as taste, it's about on par with any of the other Chinese places around me. My brother found his sauce to be too thick. His chicken was hard to eat because it was so thick. I want to make a note that I didn't order any of the Japanese food. Price: I found it to be a bit expensive, especially for the portion size. Normally when I order Chinese I can't eat it all. This time I ate all of my food. Overall, my hunt for a good local Chinese place still continues. Hopefully I find a place soon!

i only ordered delivery from this lace. I had the sushi & sashimi combo which is not bad at all for delivered sushi. It was also my first time ordering delivery through Yelp... Ume No Hana was quick on their delivery ~35 mins during lunch hours.

As far as sushi joints in the Northeast are concerned, I really like this one. Is it especially unique? Not really, but I feel a few things make it stand out. The dining room is small and dim, which isn't too bad actually, since it lends itself a kind of intimate setting. I went on a Friday and there were only a few people there, it seemed most came for take out. I had yet to find a real sit down restaurant around here with bubble tea but I was so pleased to find they sell it. I'm a fiend when it comes to bubble tea, so to be able to combine it with sushi is a dream. Their sushi itself isn't bad. They have the same issue all half off joints seem to; their nori is soggy and nasty. I think I'm just going to get negiri from now on since I haven't had edible maki rolls in months. On a pleasant note, their salmon is fresh and was some of the best salmon sushi I've had in years. Overall I had a pleasant experience, and there's enough pros to come here over one of the many other sushi places in the area. Sure, you get what you pay for, but it's not so bad.

Just ordered from here on GrubHub. Have to say... not impressed. I ordered online and asked for brown rice on my spicy tuna roll. The order went through and then I got a notification that I got up charged a $1 for it. I also ordered their steamed chicken and mixed vegetables which comes with brown rice according to the menu. I received white and when I called to have them deliver brown rice they were insistent upon me giving them the white rice back. I tried the spicy tuna and I hate to say it but.... not great. Something about it tastes like baby powder smells, to me. Anyway, they promptly sent me a brown rice but I really didn't like that they made a mistake and I had to give them back the white rice. Not so great customer service. Not so great food. I'd pass on this one if I were you.

Ugh! this place is terrrrrrible! Well, the service is bad. And the food is ok. It's cheap, but not worth it. Before I moved to Philly, the wife and I were visiting and she organized a large gathering here for dinner and drinks. One good thing, it is BYOB. That is the one good thing - and I'm pretty sure there isn't a corkage fee. So we had a large party - maybe 15-20. Service was unbelievably and unacceptably slow. That's especially bad when the restaurant is empty and you have a reservation! We had called ahead (like a week or two) before to make a reservation. So they should have been prepared for us, plus the place wasn't that busy, maybe two tables (during the course of our 3 hour ordeal) were filled by people other than our group. But they weren't. Things came out soooo slow. And the rolls are so small. At most places, if I order 2-3 rolls, I'm adequately satiated. Here, I had 3 rolls and was starving. This is because the rolls here are tiny. And on top of that, they weren't very good. How disappointing. I didn't get sick though, so that's a plus. Now, the food coming out slow isn't the only problem with the service. The drinks were also super slow. Hell, I remember wanting to pour my own wine into a glass and after waiting 20 minutes, I just grabbed a few glasses from their shelf myself. Then came the bill - that was a complete disaster. We told them to split it - they forgot, then I was there another 40 minutes figuring out who owed what. Haven't been back and barring some friend of my wife's birthday event there, I won't be back.

We ate A LOT!!! Everything was great. We tried an assortment of sushi rolls- all were delicious! Can't pick a favorite but we ordered 2 of each ~~the sweet potato roll, Dragon roll & yellowtail roll.. Loved every bite! Also loved the crispy noodles! They're light, not the heavy greasy kind. We asked for another basket of them because my daughter couldn't get enough:) We had 2 house salads- good, the miso soup - tasty, the Shu Mai - not the best, but good, shrimp fried rice - just ok I thought, the steak teriyaki & rice, spring rolls- good, better with the duck sauce that came with the noodles than the dipping sauce that accompanied them and 2 green apple green teas & a sprite. Very good late night dinner - all for $64! Cute little inside. Service was on point except they never offered refills or other drinks. Quiet for a Saturday night. I did see a few people grabbing take out while we were there, I have a feeling that's most of their business. **The SUSHI is what to order here.

Food Ok -- customer service horrible! You have 50/50 shot of accurate order and no one will return your call if you complain. I have ordered from here several times and the food has been decent, but slow considering the distance from my house, but not too bad. Bad this last time, I ordered the teriyaki Bento Box and it came without the sushi or sashimi as described - they just threw in a carton of white rice as a consolation prize. When I called to complain (of course it was take out) no one answered and no one would return my calls.

This place is WAY underrated. The sushi is always so fresh & tasty! They actually follow the directions given on GrubHub, which I don't often find to be the case! And delivery is quick! Definitely my favorite spot for sushi in the area!!

The rolls are good and at a good price. They will still give you the half-price if you order on the phone and pick it up, which is nice, since it is only a 10 minute walk from my house. Quality is the same whether I take out or dine-in, which is good. Rolls are on the smaller size, but still worth the price. The ice cream quality and presentation used to be better. Today was the first time after our at least 3rd time dining in there in a year the ice cream was icy and no whipped cream/sprinkles/cherry treatment. For two years in a row, they let my friend and me watch the Puppy Bowl there while we ate, which I appreciate as we were the only diners during the time. Service has varied, but never been terrible. I don't think I could ever go there with a big group, since they seem to be consistently not busy (maybe I just come at the wrong times) and staff accordingly. All in all, highly recommend for take out, or if you want to make a special TV viewing request, but not my favorite half price sushi dining in spot in the nearby area.

My husband and I stopped by Ume no Hana recently, and enjoyed it. We got the half off sushi, and ordered about 6 rolls to share. We both also ordered the miso soup and enjoyed it. The service was prompt (very important!)

My family loves coming here because of the low prices. Half off sushi! We can feed everyone without breaking the bank. I don't really like the calamari but it doesn't matter because I come for the sushi. It's way better than the sushi you get at food courts and pretty close to the high end restaurants. Service is great, atmosphere is okay. I haven't tried any of the dishes so my review is only about the sushi. My only complaint is the location. It's well worth the drive!

  • Alex M.

Great food, cheap prices compared to everywhere else around the area. One problem, but I totally forgive it, is the slow service..They don't that have many servers, and you can't blame them, most people order takeout and delivery and they can't invest in getting more people just to have them stand around..so when a large party comes, there are going to be delays, but it's understandable. And try the fried ice cream, it's awesome.

Simply the best chinese and sushi restaurant in this area. I've tried the rest, this is the best!

I've only had delivery from here, so I can not speak for the in house services(but will try soon). I've ordered from Ume no Hana via grubhub for about 2 years, and the delivery is always prompt and faster than any other delivery I've ever ordered from. However, although I am impressed by the speed, I've given 4 (3.5 if that was an option) stars for what i believe the quality of the food deserves. The sushi I order pretty often is decent, relatively nice quality sushi for the price you pay. Any entree I have gotten so far has yet to impress me though, and I was also a little disappointed in the chicken chow mein today, but nonetheless the entree(like all the previous) was a savior from my hunger. I will update once I have tried Ume no Hana in person! P.S. the peach green iced tea here is to die for!

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
