I tend to be star heavy when it comes to reviews but this place stole my faith in redemption. Holy mackerel! Never in my life have I ever seen gray crab. These people have got to be kidding me.

Some days I get home from work and I just want me some Chinese buffet. Last Friday was one of those days. My fiance and I heard from a friend that a new place opened up not too long ago and we decided to give it a try. Enter Teppanyaki Grill & Buffet. The food variety is pretty standard with the exception of a few hibachi options, large hunks of carving meats, and noodle bar. My general plan of attack is to go up and try small amounts of everything then go back for a second plate of all the items that received the taste bud stamp of approval. Unfortunately, when I went back up for my second plate, I realized that very few items made the cut . This place has potential but just didn't do it for me. I'll pay the extra $4 and go to Ruby Buffet on Del. Ave. The food just wasn't good enough to bring me back.

I'm a tough reviewer and especially hard on poor hygiene - take a look at my posting history for yourself. So when I give this place a 4-star, you can believe its good. Ignore the posts going on about quality, the Chinese Buffet thing Is simply NOT about the quality of the food. If you expect Chinatown quality on Oregon in South Philly you need to put away what you're smoking! There is simply no way any restaurant could economically provide top flight quality in an all-you-can-eat buffet. Teppanyaki is relatively clean compare to plenty of other places and the quantity/variety to price ratio is huge. Sure you could probably drive up to Star East in Princeton, but you'll pay a lot more for their buffet (including tolls/gas etc) and its hit and miss if you every really get the quality you paid. But the bottom line is iff you want stomach cramping value for money in Philly - this is the place to go. Teppanyaki is about just one thing - pile the plate high and cram it in hard and repeat until your abdominal region is distended until the point of bursting. The food just has to meet a minimum standard to enable that - which it definitely does at this place. The owners etc are very friendly and service OK for non-native English speaking staff. The complaints about service are due to the rough local customers ... you know the South Philly blue collar types who pretty much need to be served with a tough but firm hand - these are the people that look upon the Jersey Shore lifestyle as aspirational. Give the locals an inch, they'll take a mile - thats what inner city living does to you. But if you're a professional or middle class (they can assess you quickly) you'll get great service here, just don't worry about it. Buffet is packed with proteins and starches. Particularly great is the heaping piles of fresh fried fish. I'm amazed that this tray is always sufficiently filled. Lots and lots of shrimp and pounds and pounds of roast beef, ham etc. Theres also fried chicken, big fatty chunks of Kielbasa (for the local Polski's I assume) and the usual chicken nuggets for kids. Its a huge place, you'll never get an issue finding a table - although I haven't been when a Chinese tour bus has pulled off from the I-95. You can also get the take out cartons here. Final recommendation: skip lunch (or have some fruit) eat around 7pm and PACK IT IN AT TEPPANYAKI.

Price was very low to me. A variety of food can be tried in this restaurant. Not that tasty but good enough. Sushi is excellent.

This place is tucked away inside of a shopping strip in south philly. Meaning there is ample parking ! Woohoo the space is very large inside where they not only have many of the usual Chinese/American buffet eats but they also have a sushi section with a guy making it fresh right where you can see him. There is also a hibachi section where you choose your own foods to go within and it's made right on the spot- Beside that there is a pho station where you choose your own ingredients . Downside there was only 1 guy working both stations on a Saturday. Which leads me to believe that that is probably always the case. The pho isn't veg friendly as the broth selection is only beef and chicken . There are also no veg proteins in this section either. The servers leave much to be desired as we received water 1 time, and they never refilled our glasses. They also took our cups when we left and never really returned. All in all I'd go back, next time I'll bring my own soy sauce as they do not carry gluten free soy sauce here. But with the ridiculously low price ( like it was 18$ after taxes for 2 adults and 1 child) I think they didn't charge for my son because he is only 2 which us awesome. Great deal , and the food was yummy!

I agree with Nicey and Leigh. This is an amazingly inexpensive buffet with a huge selection of Asian and non-Asian food. Not high-end restaurant food, but it is quite decent for the price. I haven't tried everything (that would be a big project!!), but have not had anything that was problematic. It seems to be a problem with all buffets that they sort of ration out the highly desirable foods like sushi and crabs, and there is the "stalking animal" situation that Leigh described. I can understand why the restaurants don't bring out large quantities at a time because some people are such PIGS and won't leave anything for anyone else. Interior is serviceably attractive. As far as service, it's been really busy when I've been there; I can't really say the service was noticeably good or bad; it was adequate.

The service here is great. They have a hibatchi grill and sushi bar. Went here a few years back and came here yesterday and it's totally different - in a good way. They totally remodeled the place - adding a hibatchi grill, sushi bar, new icecream box, a long salad bar and a dessert bar. It's lovely. The interior is nicely decorated as well. Customers are able to enjoy a very modern and chic environment while dining with friends and family. The food here is good, I especially like the seafood they offer, but wished they offered more like snow crab legs.

I would stay away from this place. My friend got very sick from eating here but I was ok because I stayed away from any sushi, fish, and raw veggies/fruits. We should have known it would have been that way after we saw many flies all over the stirfry and some other dishes. A great place to go if cleanliness is not a priority.

Whoa Whoa Whoa. Like really, people are seriously expecting way too much out of a $10 buffet. This place is pretty amazing for the price. I say that because there's so many options here that there is bound to be something for everyone. Seriously. I honestly would give this place 3.5 stars but since that isn't an option that's how it got the bump to 4. I liked that there was a large sushi bar, however, it felt like I had to linger around the area in order to get any really good looking pieces. It was like animals stalking their prey in the wild how quickly the sushi disappeared once it was bought out. Definitely wanted to bring out your inner mountain lion because the bottom of the food chain definitely gets the scraps in this situation! Where I found that this place shined was in the the other speciality bars. I absolutely loved the soup in which you could choose a base, spice, meat, etc. it's very rare that you can customize options in a buffet setting so that was a lovely option to me. For your friend that comes to a Chinese buffet (*side eyes*) to eat American there's a considerable amount of options ranging from pizza to fried chicken. Desserts are typical expected items (ice cream - scoop not soft serve, assorted pastry/cakes, fruit) and we're all so so. Nothing to write home about nor complain. I found everything to be rather clean. There is a lot of staff presence and nothing really goes unnoticed in this place. On top of already being surprisingly cheap, this place also often coupons (I think I found mine in the metro) that gives you a small value off 2 adult dinners. I don't believed they advertise it, but if asked they also offer a10% discount for senior citizens. I think if you're realistic about how far $10 goes these days you'd be somewhat pleased enough with the options offered here (albeit I've never been here and encountered rotten crabs because I must say I'd be out for the count then as well) in order to find what works for you. I'd check it out and if you don't like it, hey - it's only 10 bucks. Most people spend that on meals at McDonalds these days! Don't come here if you're super picky expecting a fancy gourmet buffet cause this just ain't it! If you're looking for a solid place with plenty of options for everyone you give it a shot and check it out!

This place is horrific. I've been here twice and each time it was the same experience. Ugh. Maybe it's just me, but I feel like MOST of the Chinese buffets in the city have gone really downhill since I was younger, which is why I am apprehensive about frequenting them. The last time I went to this one, there were flies partaking in the sushi, which really upset me b/c I wanted some. Ahh well, moving along, everything else that I put on my plate was lackluster. I don't expect gourmet chinese from the neighborhood buffet, but I do expect it to be at least as good as my neighborhood takeout place. This was not. The best part of the buffet were the chinese sweet donuts and the beef & broccoli. Everything else either looked or tasted old or spoiled. I left hungry and wound up picking up Chipotle on the way back home. This would have to be the ONLY thing open for me to come back. :-(

The sushi and udon noodles are my favorite! There are lots of options if you like Hibachi! People are nice here, and they offer good services during my dinner! I will come back again!

My family wanted to try this place because we really liked the buffet this space was before this. The price is also pretty good. There is also a pretty wild selection of food, sushi and desserts. They have this giant ham that you can crave like it's Thanksgiving. HOWEVER .... The food isn't very good; cousins says "it's plain bad." The mango water ice is melted before and refrozen and was bad. The clams "were not kid friendly but are adult friendly" because my cousin didn't like it but the adults did. And at the end, our waitress gave us the check and stood there staring at my uncle take out his wallet and pay. We were talking about tip, that was already included in the bill because there was 11 of us, but she goes and tells him that it wasn't enough. What!? Then as he was figuring it out, she snatched the check and money and walked away. Girl... So in the end... I will not willingly come back here.

It wasn't bad but wasn't the greatest either. Some foods were good, while some were too greasy and salty. The restaurant that was in this space before it, had much better tasting food. I love dumplings, but the dumplings here were terrible. The only foods that tasted good to me was the General tso chicken and the string beans. This is the only buffet, that I only had one plate of food. Steer clear of the ice cream. They do not have a machine, so I saw many children dipping and scooping their own, very unsanitary! If you are not going to have a machine, then you should have an employee scoop the ice cream for customers. I won't be eating here again!

A typical asian buffet with a sushi bar and grill. Looks like there is alot of food, but not really. They have a noodle station which was good. That's the only thing I though was good about this place. Everything was over salted!! They use more salt then Penndot uses to salt the streets of Philly! Happy Eatings!!

Soo the food not great. The waiter was so rude!!! After we got done eating we left the waiter tip and paid in the front because he took too long to come to our table.. we walked out the restarurant and he chase us down to the parking lot saying we didnt pay yet! We told him we paid the girl in the front and he said "She told me u guys didnt pay yet.. i was like u "U didnt even ask her so i went back inside and grab my tip back.. He threaten us saying he gonna call the cops.. please people dont go there because it wasnt the first time these waiters went out of control..

This place was horrible. It was so dirty, there were even ant traps on the side of the buffet near the food. Yes, ant traps. Not sure what everyone thought they were because they were small round fancy red plastic things, but they were ant traps. They sell them in Jetro especially for restaurants. The food was terrible and that's an under statement. I can't under stand why people love to eat mounds of terrible food because it's all you can eat for a cheap price. I would rather pay a fortune and eat a tiny amount of delicious food! Most of the people eating in there looked as sloppy and dirty as the buffet. Terrible, save your money, your time and especially your stomach.

I like trying new places. Most you can give the benefit of the doubt when they have been opened just a few months. This is the 2nd Teppanyaki grill so they should know better. The sushi was very dry (I tried 6 pieces and all tasted the same? ) The roast pork tasted like beef jerky and just about as dry. Items from the grill tasted like it was an hour+ old. I tried the Banana Pudding and it tasted sour. I started feeling queasy about 15 minutes after I left. The only bright part of the meal was the service (they were quick with refills of the beverages, but I felt they were rushing me and my daughter out the door).

Before i went there i heard from my friends about this restaurant feedback, they said that the food was really good. I also read the feedback from other cutomers, 50% of them said they didn't like the food. So i went there with my brother just to make sure that the food really good (according to my friends feedback) and i was really satisfied about the food, also for the price. They have lots of varietes and choices more than other buffet restaurants i've tried. So definetely would come back again next time

I would give it 5 stars considering how much food you get for the price you pay. Seriously, 7 dollars for lunch 10 for dinner, that's dirt cheap. You can't get that much food for that price anywhere nearby!

I don't know what people are expecting at a $7 buffet. Seriously, $7 for lunch Mon-Sat? And 10% off on top of that for students/seniors/military/etc.? That's like $8-9 per person after tax and tip for all-you-can-eat food. What can you possibly complain about (other than getting sick, in which case you can take the opportunity to build up your gastrointestinal immune system)? Okay so the sushi is mostly fake sushi and skimpy on the fish. And if you go when it's busy, a lot of the popular items run out and you have to keep an eye out for refills. But there are plenty of other choices, and most of them are not half bad. It's all pretty standard Chinese buffet fare, for a lower-than-usual price. There's also a hibachi station and a noodle soup station. Plus there's a scoop-your-own ice cream station, none of that soft serve nonsense. As far as Chinese buffets go, this one is all right. Especially for the lunch price.

Went here tonight with a girlfriend from high school. Interior is beautiful to begin with Waitresses were friendly and made sure our plates were taken, we constantly had refills (free by the way). As for the food, excellent. Very fresh. It sounds like a lot, but, I only took a couple samplings of each. I had: -mussels -stuffed shrimp -stuffed clams -calamari -sushi -fried portabellos -an eggroll -cheese sticks (basically mozarella sticks) -watermelon -honeydew mellon Came to about $23 for the two of us after taxes and what not. Would definitely come again.

This is my spot to go to when I'm too hungry after a long day to even imagine waiting for food. The sushi and the habachi are the best parts, and they also always have a nice selection of fruit for dessert. It is easy to find greasy fried stuff at any buffet but I like that this place gives me other options.

5 STARS to the sushi bar!!!!! what a fantastic range of freshly sushi. It is far from the typical buffet quatity sushi. I'll say you will pay at least three times of the price or even more to get same quality sushi. The grill bar is cool, you can pick rice, noodle, and all kinds of vegetables with different type of meats, then hand it over to the chef, pick your source, he will then start cooking in front of you. Oh yeah, eat fresh!!! I always pick the combination of garlic source and soy oil, it tastes awesome. Oh, don't forget pick an egg or two. The service was spectacular. Never had to wait long for a refill. The dining area is huge! Plenty of space for everybody. Don't worry about being cramped. Way better designed compared to the other crappy buffet in Philly or South Jersey.

I went to this place couple weeks ago for brunch. The service and the atmosphere just like any other buffet.. nothing special. The food.. also just like any other buffet same variety Chinese food / sushi.. They are ok, couldn't expect anything from $10 all you can eat buffet... You got what you pay for :)

Cheap buffet with a good selection of items. Make your own noodles, grilled meats they also have pho soup and sushi, it's only 7 or 8$ for lunch.

For what it's worth, Teppanyaki Grill/Buffet is pretty much your standard Chinese buffet; however, the food selection is big enough to satisfy even the pickiest of eaters. Some friends of mine had coupons they needed to use, so we all went one evening for dinner, and it wasn't horribly crowded, but as with most buffets of this kind, there were a few whiny kids. Tolerable? Certainly, because we had our own table right in the middle of the seating area where we were free of interference from other diners. They have everything from soups and salads to sushi and Chinese favorites; even American classics like macaroni and cheese, chicken tenders, and french fries! The best part? The dessert! I filled my plate multicolored jello and pudding and some fresh fruit for good measure. They also have ice cream available by the scoop or in packaged cups if you don't want to subject yourself to using a scoop that's been soaked in multi-flavored ice cream water. For the price per person, it's worth it, but pace yourself!

$9.99 for a Chinese buffet is pretty good deal. Food are so so. The best is they have the soup station for the Vietnamese soup noodle. Something I don't like is no crab legs as Ruby buffet! :(

We both got sick about 10 hours later. If only I could give just ZERO stars. Save your health and your dignity.

One of the best buffets around. Love the stir fry veggies that they cook while you wait. Prime rib was wonderful. Fruit & salad bars are really good, too. Great prices + 10% discount for service members, students, and over 60's. Staff are very attentive. Will def go again!

Delicious sushi bar and Hibachi is included with the buffet? SOLD! We had a really friendly waitress who refilled our drinks constantly. The general buffet is the same as your typical Chinese buffet, however they do not skip on their fruit or dessert bar! That was completely stocked with fresh fruit. I will definitely be back for dinner - only $9.99!

I ate here last year and was not impressed. However this spring two friends both ate here and were very impressed and said it had reopened with new owners. Tonight this did not seem to be the case. It still looks exactly the same and the food has not improved at all. I'm still not a fan.

We frequent Chinese buffets whenever we travel because of value and variety. This place is outstanding because of the variety cleanliness and service. They have a noodle bar and hibachi. The dining areas are clean and pleasant. Bathrooms well kept. Went on Sunday for lunch and it was busy. I would return when I in the area. Paid 10.99 which was well worth it.

For lunch, a $7 feast, a buffet for the down and out, an oasis from the food desert that is many neighborhoods. They provide for the under-served poor and elderly. God Bless!

  • Queenie L.

I came because of the cheap food as mentioned by another critic before me. I guess you get what you pay for. The food is horrible and cold. Vegetables overcooked and low varieties of food. There's four types of fruits: Cantaloupe, honeydew, mangoes, and sliced peaches. Sushi is probably the only good thing here. What I do like is that the water ice was in little cups instead of having to labor myself to scoop it out (it has happened before at another buffet where the water ice was like a block of colored ice). The service is horrible. I'm fluent in Chinese and English but when I tried to ask a waitress for ketchup in either language, she failed to understand what I was asking for. I later found the ketchup in a pan near the salad bar ... I won't come here again. The price is good but there are other places that offer way more for only a couple dollars more. Maybe they weren't that well because it was a grand opening and all but for now, not coming again.

I tried it because it was new and I had a coupon. The food was only so-so, the individual sushi rolls were small and not very inspired, and for some reason there was a ton of chinese mexican food that was neither good looking nor appetizing. I really was hoping for a little better.
