I've been there twice for two punk events. It has the nice Punk Vibe that mad you feel at home, back in the day. The half-Drink prices were nice for my friends. I just drink diet coke now. Good people

I am probably biased because I am a huge fan of dive bars in general, but who cares. I love this place because it is big, it's cheap, and it's everything you would expect. The bartenders I have experienced have been great and the entire atmosphere has been comfortable. I love a good hole in the wall and it delivers. If anyone is traveling from Chicago and sees this review, it is highly comparable to Delilah's in Lincoln Park!

You can tag up the walls, has the best bathroom graffiti I've ever seen, they manage to play the Notorious BIG each time I come (which was pretty constant this past summer), $1 PBR deals, $4 mixed drinks and plus opportunitites to do arts and crafts while wasted? SPLENDID! The prices are comfortable, bartenders are cool, and you meet a miscellany of interesting people each time. I've come here with different crowds and no one feels out of place. For the record, you can smoke in the back. Bring a sharpie with you and profess your love or hate for someone on the wall.

Favorite dive bar in the city, just wish it wasn't on south street

Cheap vegan eats four nights a week. Supremely awesome staff. So eat loads and tip big.

I love Tattooed Moms. I have been there countless times and have always had fun there. Sadly I moved to LA and don't get to visit as often, but I was just home and stopped in for some food and drink before the Phils game. I recently have been exploring a vegetarian lifestyle so I was super excited to check out the vegan options at moms. I was in on a Wednesday and it was $3 vegan burgers. No brainer. And it was delicious. My friend got a regular burger and he said that was good too. I've always come to moms to party and not so much for the food. But the food is great and fairly priced. So glad I stopped in. Don't forget to check out the upstairs. Floor to ceiling graffiti and charm. Thanks Moms for helping to make my trip a success.

Punky, eclectic, hipsterish.. All words to describe tattooed mom. We seared ourselves. Greeted by a waitress who seemed really bothered by our existence. Se had moments of not being such a huge bitch but most of the time she was a total raging bitch. Wore sunglasses at night. Totally impersonal. Not that attentive. Annoyed if we asked anything. Food.. Dy-no-mite! I got the veggie chub wrap. That was good. We ordered tots w whiz. Also good. Got a hummus plate an pierogies. Tasty. Chips and salsa and guac. All good. Stuff on the table to play w and lollipops to take w you. Cute idea. Glad I went Bc I heard the food was good. Just wish the waitress was happy.

Loved this bar. Wish it were in my neighborhood. I would live there. Cool decor, great bartender and friendly patron.

Best bar on South Street. When you walk in you don't really know what to expect. Usually get greeted at the door by a big hairy guy all tatted and pierced up checking id. Then you walk in and a bunch of older hipsters are hanging out with tea party type tables and throne style style chairs, listening to Wu Tang Clan. Cruise on up stairs to a whole different dimension. Punk and death metal blaring out of the juke box with old bumper cars, merry go round and ferris wheel seats for your optimal lounging experience. If you have a marker or can of spray paint you can decorate the walls in true punk fashion.

I've heard raves about Tattooed Mom for years so I was excited to finally be able to visit during a recent visit to Philly. I went with a couple of girlfriends to have some cocktails and catch up, we were ready to hang out for a while and thought this was the place to do that. And we would have if our waitress didn't act like everything we asked her or ordered was a major annoyance. I understand she could have been having a bad day but this was one of the WORST servers I have ever had, sunglasses on the whole time, barely acknowledged we were even there and kinda just grunted at us. It wasn't busy and we were not difficult (ordering off the menu with no demanding requests). Appetizers and cocktails. It was very off putting. Cocktails and food were decent, but not anything worth how bad our service was.

Tattooed Mom is the iconic dive bar of south street east, and I can't get enough of the place. Their kitchen is decent ... Everything that I have tried from their wraps to their sandwiches to their perogies are spot on and affordable. The service is always genuine and the bartenders know their stuff. Bartenders give a fair amount of attention to regulars and people just stopping by for a drink. Ambiance is eclectic. Colorful, Gaudy, and open, with random sidecars to sit in and snap a pic. Beer and cocktails are appropriately priced but I would like to see some more specials, as they seem lofty. Pro tip: they have a late brunch menu on the weekends.

If South Street were a bar, it would be Tattooed Mom. I've been here a handful of times now and always enjoyed myself. It's my go-to pregame spot for food and drinks before seeing shows at the TLA as well! First, the decor. I mean, who wouldn't want to be taken back to 80's/90's nostalgia? It's like walking into 10-yr-old you's bedroom. The colorful walls and mis-matched tables and chairs are so inviting! Even more inviting are all the toys all over the place, even on the tables with a bowl of Dum Dum lollipops. Go upstairs for something totally different - the entire upstairs is covered in graffiti including the tables, chairs, pool tables, and everything else that's up there! For as wacky as this place is, the food is actually VERY good! I'm a big fan of the Chubbsteak wrap and the Honey Sriracha wrap. Oh and I can never leave this place without getting some tots. Mmmm just thinking about it all is making me hungry. For as much meat-lovers food they have, they have equally as much veg stuff - so veggie friends can rejoice! They normally have some kind of beer special, but I'm not a huge beer drinker so I am normally sipping on hard booze. I've had fine service whether I've sat at a table, been at the bar, or upstairs. Nothing super memorable there. If you're on South St and you want to check out a unique and fun place, Tattooed Mom is your guy (or gal?)

Ughh. I don't feel very good. This place has a pretty cool atmosphere/decor, but the nice parts tend to end there. $4.50 for a side of waffle fries is a little much. I had a $9 chicken parm sandwich and my friend got a burger. I could have made something better myself. And I would've saved money. Bottom line: Don't go here for the food.

i loved this crazy lil bar! On a family trip to Philly, my cousin took us here for a quick drink. every piece of furniture, wall paper, anything and everything is written on with permanent markers (available everywhere) ... of course we left our mark on a lamp shade, couch or two lol.. i can imagine the craziness that has gone on in that place. there are lots of cool furniture... velvet couches, tables made of tops... bumper cars you can sit in and the music was super ROCK. It was so loud we could hardly talk to each other so we didn't stay long but this is definitely a fun stop for a drink

I think I'm a fan. I'll forgive it for the slow service this past time because it seemed a little crowed and they looked short-staffed. I've been here twice now, and on both occasions we had mysterious sunglasses-wearing waitress. Mysterious! She was pretty nice. The funky drink I had with cotton candy and whiskey was tasty. I wasn't sure if I was going to like it, but it was different. The food is always good when I go here. It's sort of on the pricey side for me, but good portions. I don't think I can complain much. I'd bring a friend here for the weirdness alone. It's a different eating experience from the norm. Perfect embodiment of South Street itself.

Didnt get to try the food but the atmosphere, service, and drinks would have us coming back. They have couches and nooks to be private with and it is a great place to just relax

This is a cool spot, period. The ambience is so eclectic and all of the drinks are superb. The prices are what you expect from a city bar but not totally overpriced. They have some pretty simple and also some pretty interesting bar foods as well. Do yourself a favor though, check out the upstairs bar, it really is like stepping back into a true punk bar.

  • Jakky J.

This is the greatest bar in Philly, no, the world. The staff is usually really cool especially Shawn and Chubbs. I used to be here everyday. Now I just make the trip down for meatless Monday. Half-off all vegetarian and vegan items on the menu. We always get the vegan Chubbsteak wrap. It's delicious. The place can get rowdy but it is a nice oasis on south street of really cool people. If you see Chubbs bartending be sure to yell a long drawn out, "Oi!"

  • Amanda C.

They call this a "dive bar," but I see nothing divey about it. It's big, it's comfortable, it's full of cool decor and inventive furniture. They have good beers on tap, and a wide selection of tasty treats. The staff are friendly and helpful. Even the hip, young crowd was not too overwhelming when we were there on a Saturday night. Best of all, they hooked us up with some 10% off tokens for our friend's birthday. And it's one of the coolest spots for photo ops, with posters and graffiti covering every square inch of the place (even in the bathrooms!) I will definitely be back, bringing friends and sipping the night away in a bumper car.

  • Sara A.

A vegetarian's dream! I had the honey siracha "chicken" wrap and it was amazing! Staff was super friendly, decor was great and drinks were decently priced, would most definitely come back!

One of my favorite bars on South Street! I'm not in this area that often, but whenever I am, I stop by to get a drink here. I love the décor, it's really weird-cute inside with entertaining green walls. Sometimes I feel like I'm in a really divey bar and then I'll sit on a cute couch and feel a little more chic! Check out the bathroom and try not to be freaked out! The service is decent, but I really like their specials. Recently I went on a Wednesday and really enjoyed the $3 narrangset beer that goes down to $2 on Wednesday.--not a bad way to drink beer on a weeknight. One of my friends who was visiting from California got extremely excited to see Perogies on the menu! We probably would have had some if we just hadn't had cheesesteaks. I definitely would be interested in checking out their happy hour on weekdays, seems like they have some really good deals.

For real - I love this bar! My cousin took us here while we were visiting Philly and I couldn't have picked a better spot. Its like an adult fun house. The tables have everything from toys, spinning tops and candies, to the bumper cars you can find upstairs in another room. The music was on some serious Rock Out type, but it wasn't so loud we couldn't here each other talk. Plenty of markers available behind the bar - make sure to leave your mark on the walls, furniture, or just about anywhere in that place. Staff is friendly and nice. Environment is all kinds of laid back.

  • Gina V.

It was love at first sight! The place is literally covered in graffiti - like, no-surface-untouched covered. I love a good visually-stimulating dive bar, and that is exactly what Tattooed Mom is. My fingers itch for a sharpie whenever I see even the tiniest blank space on the walls. Even the ceiling boasts some choice artwork. The drinks are strong, and the staff is friendly and very patient, probably from eons of dealing with super drunk people. You can sit at the bar, or a table, or on a couch or a big comfy chair, or even - and I'm not even lying - in a bumper car. Yes, that's right, you can sit in a bumper car. You can't drive it, but you can sit in it, and that's pretty darn fantastic. There is a definite fun house vibe to the place, and I'm all about it. I've got to come here more often.

Here we go again. Another stop into Tattooed Mom's. While we've been to Tattooed Mom's bar several times over the years, it hasn't changed much at all. We did, in fact meet the voluptuous owner, Mom, many years ago. A buxom red head she was. LOL - I digress. Back to our review of today's visit. The downstairs bar is not particularly large, but all stools were taken. Tables randomly placed throughout the back area were mostly-occupied. As it use to be, they still had little plastic Strangely, they had racks of clothes throughout. It was explained that a few times a year, they sell clothes to patrons. We've never experienced it there before. It was pretty odd. The bartender was a bit aloof and busy talking to a customer a few stools down about a stalking ex-girlfriend. We had wanted to revisit our earlier stops at the bar and look upstairs, but the upstairs doesn't open until 8 p.m. Arlene and I stayed for one beer and decided it was time to move on. It's not likely that we'll stop back to Tattooed Mom's in the future. At one time it was fun, now it's just strange.

Your go to bar that has great weekly specials! I recently came here for Taco Tuesday and hit up their happy hour. I was not disappointed at all. They have great seasonal drafts and you're go to run of the mill bottles. The server, despite how busy they get, was able to provide recommendations and their take if you want to try something new. If you're looking for a swanky dining experience, they is not the place but if you're looking to let your guard down and enjoy a good time out, this is it. The food prices are modest and it was delicious. I obviously had their tacos (hard shell) which are the size of your hand you can have your fill of toppings. I also ordered the pierogies with onions and that were little pillows of potato heaven. Also what I liked about this place, I didn't feel broke having a few drinks and a full belly. Def worth a try and checking out!

Had a great time here. The decor is what you should go for. Drinks are pretty good, a reasonable tap beer selection, some weird funky furniture, and best of all -- two pool tables. I forgot my ID but was with my parents and the bouncer was pretty funny. He wouldn't let me in until my mom went up to him and said "I was there. I remember it perfectly. And it was many more than 21 years ago." He laughed and let us in, and was just an all-around cool dude. The downstairs was packed so we got drinks upstairs and lounged on the retro couch. Got in a couple games of pool for just a buck a game. The clientele is... eccentric, but I guess that's just part of the experience. Cool dive on South Street with fair prices worth checking out.

Went to Tattooed Mom's on Friday the 13th. Stopped by for a late lunch. We were able to sit wherever we liked and were approached quickly upon arriving to get our drink order. My daughter had a PBR and my wife a cherry coke. Nothing for me. My order: grilled chicken Sammie (no roll for me) over a bed of lettuce, cheese and avacado. Wife: chicken quesadilla Daughter: turkey corn dogs and tots Service was quick, food hot and delicious! My daughter loved her corn dog and tots! We were all happy and everything was reasonably priced. Decor is fun, atmosphere enjoyable and clean bathrooms. I didn't venture upstairs, maybe next time. We will return, want to try the vegetarian options. Yum!!!

I love the graffiti on the walls and all of the funky decor! It's a very comfortable environment and super casual. Their loaded french fries, tater tots with cheese, and perogies (so many toppings to choose from) are my favorite...so unhealthy but SO GOOD! It's a dive bar so everything is extremely cheap! The service is also great. Everyone is really sweet and friendly! I believe there's a second floor but I haven't checked it out yet. Be sure to stop by Tattooed Mom if you're walking down South Street!

Well this place has a nice vibe really laid back and chill. I stayed for about an hour and had two beers which is a lot for me. They have an upstairs but I didn't explore that much. I didn't visit the restroom and it was well kept and very clean. I enjoyed eavesdropping on the bartenders trips overseas. And he didn't seem to mind me listening and nodding my head in approval or disagreement.

Stopped in the other night after a yelp* event just down South Street. The place was packed but I snagged a seat at the bar to try a couple of their craft beers. I didn't have a lollipop but found it interesting to see a basket on the bar for anyone to imbibe. The decor is like something out of the 60's so I didn't feel out of place at all. While their menu looked interesting I was too full to try anything - maybe next time. Wandered upstairs and found more of the same along with a pool table and another bar. Nice, comfortable place with a good vibe and attentive bartenders.

I haven't been upstairs, but I've been by a couple times for drinks and once for dinner. I'm not impressed. I get it, the toys and candy on the tables are fun. I liked Sugar Mom's and was disappointed when they closed it, but Tattooed Mom lacks a lot. The beer list is short, and there isn't much to it, which can be easily excused for a dive bar. The service is uninterested in serving at best, rude at worst. The burger that I had there recently could have been replaced with a hockey puck and no one would have noticed, the fries were hard and cold.

  • Jeff B.

Great bar! Both times I've visited Philly, I made a stop at Tattooed Mom, I enjoyed the ambiance, drinks, food, and staff. The cheesy tater tots are an awesome shareable snack. Their 1/2 off happy hour special was a welcome surprise, and our waitress had the consideration to give me a free drink after she noticed that the drink I previously ordered was brought to me in too small a glass (which I hadn't noticed or cared about). The drink was interesting by the way; peanut butter lovers should ask for their PB-flavored draft beer. It sounded risky, but it's solidly good. I also like that all of the tables have candy on them, and that there's the weird art installation outside the window. I will say, however, that it's not a true dive. Not that that makes it any less cool, but if it's safe and friendly enough of a place for parents to bring in their kids to hang out on Halloween, that's not a dive.

  • Sammiyah Sunflower T.

This place is super kool. Bring your friends and hang out. Its that kind of place. Big fun with toys and candy every where. Drinks and good food. Lots of vegan options. All your friends can come out an party together no worries.

  • Dan D.

If I were to label this bar it would be a dive bar with an eclectic hipster feel. The staff is friendly and the patrons were great. This is a definite stop on a bar hop down or up south street.

  • Eric J.

Pretty odd place. But comforting at the same time. Green walls were a pretty strange sight, but you know what? I'll take it. The decor is incredibly strange but who the heck cares? That's just how it's gonna be. You can't do anything about it, so just sit the eff down and grab a drink. Food and drink specials here are pretty awesome, including Taco Tuesday and Pierogie Thursdays. Not to mention half off drafts from 10-11pm, which I don't think I've seen anywhere. Pretty basic bar food, on the lower quality side, but at those prices, you can't complain too much. Plus the tots and pierogies are just really good. Haven't tried any of the sandwiches or $3 burgers, but it's definitely going to happen one of these days. The crowd here is pretty eclectic, from middle-aged bikers to Jersey shore wannabes, to obviously underage college kids and retired frat bros. Pretty fun and divey. Service is always a bit on the slower side, but chances are you're probably hammered by the time you're ready to order another drink, so I guess it's generally forgivable. Definitely one of the best value places on South Street. I'll definitely be back if I'm feeling a cheap beer and a low-key night. I think you just have embrace the weirdness of this place and once you do, you're gonna have a good time.

Fun bar, hung out in the upstairs area which has plenty of room and two pool tables. Staff was nice, and psyched that they had Shiner Bock on tap and Powers Whiskey.

Tattooed Mom has never been my favorite spot (my last visit was probably about five years ago), but I definitely get why people dig it. On my recent visit, I discovered the upstairs for the first time. Interesting. I enjoyed finding Doggystyle in the jukebox and played almost the entire album. I also played pool (terribly) alongside Vinny P, who amazingly kept me as his partner for more than one game. Speaking of my pool partner, he graciously shared his basket of tots and I found them to be quite delicious. Until we meet again, T-Mom's.

This is definitely my favorite bar on South St! They have 2 happy hours. One from the usual 5-7pm, and one from 10-11pm. The special is half off drafts, which is a great deal. And they have good craft beers on tap. Last night I had the PBC Winter Wunder, which is a great spiced winter ale. They also have a nightly special on some sort of food--meatless Mondays with half off vegetarian options, taco Tuesday with $1 beef or veggie tacos, $3 regular and veggie burgers on Wednesdays, and 50 cent pirogues on Thursdays. The bartenders are super friendly, and they know their beers. The bar itself is very eclectic, both in terms of the decor and the people it attracts. It's definitely a hipster hangout, but I've seen all walks of life in there.

  • Tom M.

100% Five Stars. You have to go for Meatless Monday's! Awesome veggie burgers, vegan cheesesteaks and chicken cheesesteaks. I love their very South Street vibe and a really nice owner and staff. They have great specials on Wednesdays too. If you're coming in from out of town make Tattooed Mom's your go-to Happy Hour spot.

Each day, before the entire population of South Jersey Jagerbombs South Street, there is a place you can go to sit on a throne, craft something out of pipecleaners, and suck on a dum dum while you wait for someone to bring you food. No, it's not your mom's living room, it's actually Tattooed Mom. And oh yeah, the food is good too.. Can't speak for carnivorous options, but the vegetarian/vegan menu is awesome. And it's HALF PRICE ON MEATLESS MONDAYS! (5-7 or 10-11) If you eat honey, the Honey Sriracha "Chicken" Wrap is essential. Even better with "bacon" & guac. Also veg corn dogs, burgers, and steak sandwiches. Here's a caution though: don't mis-steak the "vegan steak sandwich" for a loaded cheesesteak - the one I got was just "steak" on a roll, kinda dry and definitely in need of a sauce. Good news is you can add a cornucopia of FREE veggie toppings/sauces, or pay a bit extra for special ones like Daiya, guac, "bacon", etc.

Funny story: Last Tuesday (snow day), my friend and I decided to head to TM's for taco's and some mid-day pool. As we were excitedly discussing Taco Tuesday, I said, "I hope they're good tacos!" to which my friend replied, "It's hard to mess up a beef taco." Flash forward 30 minutes: The upstairs is closed until 8p, no pool (boooo!) and we're eating $1 tacos out of stale taco shells. Eek. Anyways, this is a typical dive bar with cheap PBR's and a way hip/metal vibe. Go to Manny Browns for your Taco Tuesdays.

Tattooed Mom's is quickly climbing as one of my favorite bars in philadelphia. But I almost wanted to give them 4 stars. Why? Because it's not in my neighborhood and I have to come all the way down to south street to hang out here.

I went to Tattooed Mom for a literary reading a few weeks back and had a blast. The reading was in the little room with the bumper cars and it was totally packed. I was drinking some sort of tequila lemonade (it was ordered for me. I still am not sure what it was, but it was GOOD) and very pleased about sitting in a graffitied bumper car to listen to some great authors. Once the reading was over, I steadily drank and ate my way through the rest of the bar (I had the falafel sandwich and waffle fries-- the falafel was okay, and the fries were great), which I felt was quintessentially South Street in nature. Grungy without really being an edgy vibe, lots of great people, and sweet drinks made this place enjoyable. The bathrooms were surprisingly okay, given the general appearance of the place (it was no Ritz-Carlton, but come on, don't be expecting pristine bathrooms in a place with graffiti all over the walls).

What you would expect from the name. Sit in an old bumper car as you drink a cotton candy old fashioned. They had arts and crafts ready to fiddle with. Twas interetinng , 3.5

I went here to take advantage of the $3 Burger Wednesdays and couldn't complain about a thing, considering we got 2 burgers, a beer, tots, and pierogies for $21.00. The pierogies were a nice size. The filling was very good, a nice contrast to the doughy exterior. The tots struck the balance of crunchy exterior and soft interior nicely. I personally thought that all of the sides were a little bit expensive ($5 for a small bowl of tater tots?) The burgers were a real steal at $3 each (plus $.75 for cheese.) A nice choice of toppings (beyond just lettuce, tomato, onion) and you could really create your own perfect burger. The burger was a decent size, not too outlandishly big, which was nice. Service was extremely friendly and attentive, but the food took a while to come out - which I can only assume was because it was very crowded right at dinner time. Upon next visit, i'd love to try the Vegan Cheesesteak.

    (4)
  • James G.

Had the tatter tots with cheese whiz and a few drinks. The server was very standoffish and not friendly at all. We were left with empty glasses for a while with our server nowhere to be found. There are plenty of places to get a drink and a quick drink on South Street, won't come back here again.

OMG! I LOVE T-Moms! Totally where all the cool people go! It's sort of divey, but in a really fun and amazing way. It's like you've stepped into another world, full of retro kitsch and graffiti. So awesome. Little party favors and dum dums on every table! I love going for Taco Tuesday and $3 Veggie Burger Wednesdays (best veggie burger in the city). Lots of great vegan options! Also, Jen IS THE BEST SERVER IN THE WORLD!!! Go to Tattooed Mom, you'll love it!

Visited Philly with my boyfriend a few weeks ago, and came across Tattooed Mom. Being a tattooed mom, myself, I had to stop in. Especially after having some terrible cheesesteaks at Ishkabibble's, and needing a cold beer on an 80 degree day. I've gotta say - what a breath of fresh air on South Street! Decent tap selection (which they seem to rotate), great happy hour prices ($4 drafts). The music is fantastic (great punk selection). The patrons seemed very down to earth. I loved that they had a bowl of dum dum pops sitting on the bar for customers to pick at, and a slew of one-inch neon colored plastic glass accouterments (I chose the monkey). I also have to give props to the bartender. I didn't catch his name, but he was incredibly friendly. An overzealous/over talkative patron (let's be honest, the guy wouldn't shut up) was gnawing this poor bartender's ear off, and the bartender just nodded and smiled, and threw in one and two word replies whenever he had the chance. Seems like this dude, and this establishment, go out of their way to make sure customers have a good time, and in my opinion, they succeed. I'm really looking forward to returning here this weekend with further details. :)

The day I sat down at my usual table and was instantly delivered the beer I would probably be ordering that evening from Jen was the day I knew I really loved this place. They can get super busy during their specials (like Taco Tuesday) but the staff is always friendly (Sarah and Jen rule!) even when they have every reason to be stressed from the large crowds. Beer and food prices are average for being in the city. Mostly I go here for the welcoming environment and their rotating beer on tap. Highly recommended. Also, the quesadilla is fantastic and you should order it (with jalepeños).

Good vibe, good people, cheap drinks. What more could you ask for? Make sure to enjoy the second floor

I was wandering around old city, visiting on a whim from NYC and smelled my way towards South street and found my people. I walked into Mom's and enjoyed the vibe downstairs for over an hour, alone. The bartender was cool, kind, and professional, and the candy strewn about the bar was a nice surprise. The furniture and decor are very fun and remind me of a grimier version of my favorite bar in my hometown of Houston, which has a circus theme going.... I found my way upstairs and sat in one of the buggies up there (go, you'll see) & pulled out my sketchbook to just draw & enjoy the music. When I was close to leaving, some people came up & started talking to me. About art school, about humanity, about Philadelphia...and we hung out for another hour at least at the bar. Everyone I interacted with at T-Mom's was down to earth and friendly. And what amazes me the most is that it actually attracts a really diverse crowd....nursing students and sticker punks alike. The menu has many vegetarian options, as well as a different special each weeknight. Sunday is arts and crafts day, Saturday morning they play cartoons and serve White Russians I believe, and of course there's taco Tuesday, pierogi night, and cheap $3 hamburger night. I ended up moving to Philadelphia from NYC 4 days later because of the experience I had at T-Mom's. And now, anytime friends visit me in Philly from elsewhere, I take them here first.

This place confuses me. When we went it was like a combination thrift store and restaurant. The burger that I got was very good and they give you the option of choosing your own (unlimited) topping. Daiya cheese is available at a small increased cost. Also, they have great southern style fries with fried jalapenos. Good prices. I wouldn't come here except for during Wednesday $3 burger night.

Neat decor, Nice layout. Taco Tuesday was cool but they shouldn't have only one server on. Took to long for her to come back and when we tried getting her, it felt we were bothering her. One of our tacos was not cooked (the meat was red and cold) and a can beer tasted weird..when telling the waitress that, we got comment that was not necessary from her. Beer is a little overpriced and so is the food for what it is. I would only go if there is a special or happy hour there, but My opinion is there are better places in the city.

Tattooed moms fits in on so many levels - downstairs is a very retro, kitchy bar and a very relaxed dining area. There are tables and couches. Then upstairs is a divey, graffitied, very hip area with pool tables and another bar. On Wednesdays they have $3 burgers (vegan option available) and they always have delish TATER TOTS that come out in a basket. They have a taco Tuesday special too, though i haven't been there on a Tuesday. The food is actually GREAT! the service is GREAT! the atmosphere is GREAT! and the place is affordable. Doesn't matter if you are here for eating or drinking or BOTH - you wont break your budget and you'll enjoy every sip and bite. I am not much of a night owl, and even more so - i am not much of a happy hour-er - but - when i am - i choose tmoms.

One of the few places I actually enjoy coming after a long day working in retail on South St. I tend to be one of those bar loners after work, mostly because all I wanna do is decompress and shove some food in my face, and Mom's never fails to deliver. Half price drafts during happy hour rocks my world (as does the late night happy hour from 10-11, thanks for looking out for the retail crowd!). Their food is hella pricey for what it is but their weekly food specials more than make up for it (dolla tacos? 3 dolla veggie burgs? Hell yeah!). Definitely a great place to grab happy hour with friends or solo and if you've got a bigger crowd for the night, head upstairs for some pool or chill on the comfy couches. Knocking off a star because I never order food on any day that isn't Monday-Thursday, but catch their food specials and you'll be in a good place.

I'd call this a pretty dive bar, a clean cut kid. Well thought out dive bar with a young stickerbook personality. Not the typical dirty hole in the wall place that is normally associated with the word dive bar. Overall, good place to chill and chat in comfort. Seriously they have pretty comfy couches.

My new favorite dive bar!! Loved this place. Didn't even bother hanging out downstairs, went straight upstairs and my friend and I had the whole area to ourselves. It's large with 2 pool tables and couches. The walls are completely covered with graffiti. There is a bar in the next room and bathrooms. I seriously can't wait to get back here. If you like grungy dive bars, MAKE SURE YOU GO!

I love this place. I literally dream about the veggie chicken club. I've never had a more perfect sandwich. It has become our go to Sunday lunch spot as my kid loves the chicken fingers & free crafts. Awesome spot.

Pretty cool decor inside. We sat in the back where they have comfy couches. Just like everywhere in Philly there's so much to look at! Right in front there's a sign that says "Go Tagging All the Time...Unauthorized Street Art is Appreciated". We were told there was stuff to check out upstairs as well but it wasn't going to be open until 8pm. I ordered the hot shot toddy which was pretty interesting. Also ordered the pierogies and hummus which was alright. Nice place to sit back and relax a bit.

Favorite bar in the city, hands down. The staff is one of the kindest, most down to earth, and just awesome group of people that has ever graced a bar in Philadelphia. Seriously, if this place is the absolute TITS! No matter who is working, you are sure to have great conversation and great service (I'm looking at you Sig and Jen!!)...oh and the food and beer is great too! Don't miss out on the weekly specials - you can't beat $1 tacos (veggie or meat), $0.50 perogies, and $3 burgers (veggie or meat). Food not your thing? Have fun writing graffiti, drawing nonsense, or doing whatever you please to the walls on the second floor. With an ever changing variety of street art gracing their upstairs, you will always find something new and interesting displayed.

By far my favorite bar for many many reasons. 1. I must say I'm partial to it because I am in fact, a tattooed mom. 2. The drinks, oh the drinks. I order the pink puss. I don't know what's in it because they won't tell you but boy is it delicious! 3. The atmosphere, there's art and toys everywhere! Who wouldn't enjoy that? I mean really? Each table gets a selection of little games to play while they're drinking/eating. This is the best part of all. 4. Oh and they give you free lollipops. Enough said. This bar is the epitome of perfection.

Very interesting cocktails that I haven't seen anywhere else! Menu looked good- especially the veggie/vegan options but didn't try anything. Nice bartender, didn't rush us at all. Good craft tap/bottle selections, laid back environment. Two very different environments on the first and second floor

I really like this place 1: They have Abner Jay on the jukebox. 2: They don't get mad when my friend and I drunkenly serenade them to his music. 3: They have comfortable chairs. 4: Their staff is friendly. 5: Kitchen is open until 1:30; Fried food is good and comes out quick. 6: They have Abner Jay on the jukebox.

Went here for the first time last week during the afternoon. First off, much less pretentious than Sugar Mom's (see my review from 2011). Chubb is such a sweetie bartender! Great cocktails and food. Got the Philly fries which were delish. Also sampled some of my friends' perogies and honey sriracha wings. YUM! Def will return.

Came for Taco Tuesdays with my girlfriend, Bar looks great, customer service not too shabby! The waitress was pretty nice except she never really introduced herself and barely came by to grab our dishes. Table was extreeeeemly small to where we couldnt even fit our food with old dishes and a basket full of condiments. Had to grab an extra table. I didn't want to make it a big deal because she was the one and only waitress. She was like Flo at Diner Dash running around everywhere! I wish I had her name because I'd still recommend her (Dark hair, thin (sorry!) w/tattoos on her arm). I'd still come back. This place seems great for hangouts with friends and the Tacos were good!

Came to check out this bar on my trip to Philly and it was OK. The atmosphere was different and i liked the decor (very artsy/urban) and the couch had a great pair of dog/cat face pillows we had a good laugh at. The bartenders however were very standoffish and not very friendly and the man at the door checking ID's was pretty rude. Liked the bar but probably wont come back next time i come visit. They do have good prices though if you are on a budget.

I need to update my Tattooed Mom review for one reason: Best. Vegan. Cheesesteak. In. The. City. Also, toys, beer, being carded, ambiance, music, tatertots, vegenaise, Taco Tuesday, Burger Wednesday, consistent & awesome vegan options, & rad customer service. But really, I'm so all about one thing: Best. Vegan. Cheesesteak. In. The. City.

Creative little place on South Street. Decorations can be a bit overstimulating, but that's a personal preference. I do appreciate the effort to be different than the generic trendy bars that all look and feel the same. Seating set up feels more "café" and less "bar," not sure if that changes at all for late night visits as we were there at dinner time. I had the Honey Sriracha fried chicken wrap- it was amazing! My friend had a grilled chicken sandwich- was less than thrilled saying it tasted like "hospital food." Beer list isn't super big but had enough to cover what I needed. Fun for a visit but I'm not sure I'll be back.

I was here for an early dinner, so I never got a chance to check out the upstairs area, that has a pool table. I believe it opened at 8pm. The bartender, Joe (I think) was friendly and very attentive. I was greeted as soon as I came in. There was a good mix of regulars and bigger groups. I had a delicious brunch burger with back and Sriracha sauce, yum. The place is very punk rock with eclectic art and decor. I totally want the great octopus chandelier.

Hands down the ultimate chill spot! For starters it's has two floors, starting from the bottom full bar and seats in the back to eat or drink. The top floor, oh man. It has graffiti all over the walls, pool tables, bar stools, couches, a lounge in the back did I mention Graffiti all over the walls! Oh wait and the Location being Right on South st. Make it 10times better. If you just wanna drink, play some pool and kick it hipster style this is the place to be.

Oh Tatooed Mom, Tattooed Mom...what an experience you gave me! SSssooo I head over to this spot super late probably like a hour or two before they close. It wasn't crowded, we were quickly seated and handed a menu. The menu was short and too the point. Not many selections so I decided to get a order of wings. Can't go wrong with wings right? Well, they were just ok. Nothing to write home about. They did the job of keeping me fed while I was busy downing Pink Puss's that just seemed to keep coming back to back...well ok ok they kept coming because I kept ordering them cause a sistah was on a mission to drink, drink and drink that night! LOL #missionaccomplished The customer service...LMAO @ the thought. So we get this chick who obviously felt like she was at home chilling and just had to feed her friends because she was just so relaxed that she took the enthusiasm out of the atmosphere of the place. She was no help in helping us decide on what was good. Nor was she in a good mood. It was like "Hey, here's the menu, what do you want??" My friend saw on the menu somewhere that they had Taco's on Tuesday. The menu was so small he asked could he order Taco's and would pay extra and the waitress just gave a flat out cold azz said NO! After that point I knew that I would definitely NOT be ordering anything else...so from that point the drinking commenced even more. On a the note of drinking the Pink Puss was DELICOUS!! Don't ask me what was in it cause I don't remember BUT I think it was Vodka. At any rate, I would definitely have no problem stopping back in just to go to the bar and grab a quick drink but not to eat. I only gave 2 stars because 1 they were open late, had cool décor and the drinks were on point.

Definitely a dive, but one of my favorite South Street bars. I love the decor, especially the graffiti upstairs. The food is nothing special, typical greasy bar fare, but it's pretty cheap and they have fun things like pierogies and tater tots. They have a late afternoon happy hour, as most places do, but they also have an evening happy hour from 10-11 pm. They have a pretty good draft selection and also have cheap specials on cans of PBR Pounders. We've never had a problem getting a table downstairs and they have pool tables upstairs. It's usually a pretty chill environment and a fun, young crowd. My only complaint is that one of the regular bartenders prides himself on being kind of a jerk to the patrons. I've experienced this on a few different occasions. He's sarcastic and condescending... not in a playful, funny way either. We were sitting at the bar and he jumped into our conversation and instantly began belittling and debating with my boyfriend. I dig it when the bartenders show some personality and joke around, but if you're working for tips, don't be an ass! Avoid that guy's area (I'm sure you'll know him instantly) and you'll have a great time.

I just don't like this place. It's OK for what it IS but it coasts off what it WAS. Let's face it, it's one of the last havens on South St. for "different/ out there" people, but it accommodates everyone. That's part of the problem. It seems like every time I go there there is always somebody there trying to start with someone over how they look. On South St. as it is now, if you don't like the way somebody looks or dresses at Mom's, go somewhere else. There are plenty of other places where people look and act just like you, don't ruin a spot for people who look and dress like us. That's no fun at all. With that said, for all the character this place has, the prices are a bit on the steep side when measured against the quality. I can get better elsewhere and not be bothered in the process. The staff are cool though, they work hard. Maybe it's just because this is one of the most unfriendly feeling places in the city nowadays is why I've changed my opinion. It seems like everybody goes there to front. Hipsters, Punk/metal guys, thugs, bros. It's like a collection of all of the worst stereotypes of each group just trying to act tough, I don't like that. Worst of all, to me, is the idea of meeting people here. It seems like the worst place to even try to get something going. Too much posturing, too much attitude. What used to make this place cool was the ability to meet like minded people. That's pretty much gone. This place was never one of my stops or haunts either because there was so much more. Now, with literally nothing left of value around there, it should feel like a haven, but instead feels like a relic.

"I don't belong here." I'll admit, that was the first thought that went through my head after ordering a drink and venturing up to the second floor of Tattooed Mom. But did I care? Absolutely not. Dive Bar? Sorta. Hipster Bar? Kinda. A cool place to have a cheap drink, suck on a Dum Dum, shoot some pool, play with some toys, sit in a bumper car, admire the graffiti covered walls/bar or chill out on the tagged furniture. Hell to the yeah. However, during my brief visit I didn't eat here or use the restrooms, which I'm guessing was lose/win for round one. Regardless of whether I belong here or not, I definitely need to come back and at least try the former.

Ed's Famous Three Part Review Intro: What a psychedelic place! Lots of funk and character. I went with a vegan friend because the menu is actually super duper vegan friendly. Basics: 1. All their regular items have a vegan counterpart. That will make your veg-head friends very happy:) 2. Got the sriracha-honey chicken wrap (vegan) and the cheese steak (also vegan). The wrap was executed well with the "meat" crumbed and fried well to give it a good meaty texture. The "beef" was however not as successful in pretending to be real meat. The roll on the steak was a bit soft for my taste with no discernible crust. Conclusion: $3 PBR TALL BOYS.

Um dollar tacos on Tuesdays and $2 cans of beer? Need I say more? Seriously though this place is amazing. From the old school pink couch that probably has a few stories to tell about it's past all the way to the adventure time figure hanging up above it. I love the feel of the place. (Side note there is a huge airplane up above that I want to fly right down south st haha). The food was good for the price. If you go on a Tuesday they got dollar tacos. Can't beat that. If you want a higher quality taco then go somewhere else and waste 2-3 dollars on one. I for one will not. The Mexican beer that is oh so cheap is good enough to wash down those taco too. I do think they need more servers because I did wait quite a while for the lovely young women to come take my order but I don't complain, there was a big crowd to feed that night. I'll definitely be frequenting this place. Seems to be the place to be. Especially the night I went.

Very interesting spot on South street, definitely check it out. This place has an awesome upstairs with graffiti walls and bumper cars for chairs. Relatively cheap drinks (PBR pounders are $3) and a dynamic crowd really add to this spot. My one knock is that I have been here three times now and my buddies and I have only ordered the 16oz PBR's - the tops of the cans smell like puke, not sure if someone threw up near the cooler or what but it was very noticeable. Be sure to wander into Tattooed Mom one weekend night, it is worth your time.

I'll let the boss sum this up... I know your mama, she don't like me, cause I play in a rock 'n roll band. And I know your daddy don't dig me, but he never did understand. Tattooed Mom's is certainly not your parent's bar. It is a chill environment despite all the biker-esq looking dudes in leather jackets. There is graffiti everywhere, it makes it feel more grimy than it really is... But it gives it a unique touch. The drinks are strong.

Came here twice both time with my favorite art related friends. First time I tried their 2nd floor, I thought they are unique filled with graffiti seals even their windows are covered with graffiti so you do not see outside. To me this place is very south street bar, you can see the connection to for example Magic Garden. Even the painting of female nude model at the bar kind of looks like one from Modigliani that you can find at MoMa Museum. Things I like about here is that there is 2 hours happy hour everyday from 5-7p.m. I only know few bars and here is pretty much only place I tried on south street if not South Street Diner is included. I also like that you are not rushed by bartender to have second drink to stay longer. Tattooed Mom is like a Cafe to me, anything from the tables and fancy lighting and little cars and airplanes here and there, and even wall color which is green on 1st floor, everything is somewhat not very "adult", and people come here just like coming to cafe with friends. I like the fake-ness they have, make me think of memories of one of my old friends. I picked this place for tonight because it's my neighbor, and not too scary to go in by myself and wait for friend to come, unlike other bars. Only reason it's three star even though I write good things about here is that I do not like bar compared to cafe.

Huge fan of the late night happy hour, the interior is grungy and fun (albeit intentional), and I find the regulars to be very friendly even to those who don't fit in with the crowd. I'm a fan of the second floor bar room, and there's always a few good beers on tap. Perfect place to grab a drink after a fancy dinner to balance things out.

This is my favorite bar in Philly. The moment I walked in I felt like I was in a John Waters movie. That's a really, really good thing. The bartender was very accommodating and FUNNY too! Two floors - pool tables and broken down bumper cars on the second. My girlfriend and I found this place by chance and had a really awesome time. Woke up with a bunch of new numbers saved in my phone of people I will likely never call, but were at least my friends for one night.

I've visited Tattooed Mom on several occasions. And yes, my coach bag carrying, slightly preppy dressed self might feel little out of place with the tattoeed/pierced bartenders and clientele, but nope. You feel right at home! Every time I've gone there it's been superb service, great conversation with people at the bar, and dang I love their perogies. They also have fun little trinkets to play with at the bar. I swiped a couple for my 4 year old, that's what they are there for right? Whenever I'm on South St, this place is a must to stop in, have a drink, and maybe take a picture in their bumper car.

I love this bar, I really truly do. BUT I only love it during the day or weekday nights...that's it. Any other time it is impossibly crowded with hipsters (look at my pictures- clearly not a hipster) and I never feel like I fit in. I love the space both upstairs and down. I want to ask Rob the owner if I can buy one of the bar stools...gold glittered amazingness. The absolute most amazing reason I love this place (other than tater tots- that's a gimme) are their craft days on Sundays. A mimosa and some glitter glue never went so well together. I was told that one of my many pieces of quality artwork would be posted (once the children left the bar...that's a sentence) since the owner loved it so much. Who knew writing "Merry Fucking Christmas" in nice script with silver glitter glue on blue construction paper was art? Oh that's right- Tattooed Mom's did.

The last time I was in Philly, I had a desperate need for a chicken parm sandwich at 11:50 at night. I piled into the car with my friends and raced toward south street making a FRANTIC phone call... "Hi, This is Molly (as if they have ANY idea who the hell Molly is)! I know your kitchen closes at midnight but I am in desperate need of a chicken parm sandwich! Can you just put the order in and we'll be there in five minutes?!?!?!" There was a long pause.... "Umm.. miss, our kitchen closes 12:30. I think you're gonna be ok." RELIEF!!!!!! Those sandwiches complete me :)

Can't beat the $3 burgers on wed nights. Basic burger with plenty of free topping choices, including fried onions. I added two strips of bacon for $1. The Spanish fries have jalepenos and fried onions. Place has a cool funky vibe and the staff were very friendly.

This is probably the diveiest of dive bars I've ever been to. I loved that it wasn't super crowded and loud, and we could have a conversation (how much of an old lady do I sound like when I say that?) The beer was decently priced and we were pleasantly surprised when we got our bill. My main complaint about this place though was the bathroom. It was incredibly dirty and gross. There was no toilet paper for use, but it was all over the floor.

  • Madeline D.

Had a great atmosphere but the service was terrible. The waitress had a terrible attitude. We were afraid to ask her how we should pay and ended up waiting for 20 minutes before finally giving in and asking her. We told her how we wanted to split the bill but she didn't listen and when we corrected her she yelled at us for not telling her. I'm sure with a different server the experience would have been much better.

Love Tattooed Mom! It's not a place you want to go to impress someone on a first date or for romance, but the food and beer are great. The staff is always friendly. I loving coming for the vegan tacos on Tuesdays and vegan burgers on Wednesdays. The happy hour specials are great and it's a great place to go to with friends.

I went there with my fiance for a drink after some shopping on South Street. The bar was full, so we went into the back area where there is couch/chair seating. This place is kind of everything you would expect from a bar called Tattooed Mom. I like that macro beers are overpriced, I think it cuts down on the "bro-flow".

  • Robert M.

Great environment and great beer. Prices are reasonable. My friends and I go here all the time and always have a good time. The upstairs is my favorite because it's more if a dive bar and the downstairs is also cool if your looking for something nicer.

  • M G.

I've been here a couple times for drinks, and once for a craft Sunday which was kind of fun, but my review is mainly to post about the food. I decided to try the vegan burger on a Wednesday night since it was the weekly special and it was probably one of the best vegan burgers I've ever had. Add a side of tots and it was a delicious greasy meal. Now that I know about it I have to control myself from stopping by every week. One negative point is that you can't get the special prices if you do take-out so expect to pay full price if you're not planning on eating there. Not really sure what the reasoning is behind that. As a bar, the atmosphere downstairs is a little too bright for my taste but I tend to like anything that resembles a dive bar to be a little more dark and divey. I'll go back and try more food items in the future I'm sure, but in terms of a drinking place it's not necessarily where I would choose to go first. It would be really great if they added more couches and lounging areas downstairs so it felt a little more comfortable and eliminated some of the tables and chairs, but since I haven't been there on peak nights maybe all of those are needed. All in all it's a good place for vegan and non-vegan bar food options but not the true drinking dive bar that I'm searching for in this city.

I love this place and I don't care who knows it. I don't get out and party much anymore. But I wouldn't want to spend Halloween anywhere else. This was one of the places that started my love affair with Philadelphia. It's weird, kind of grimy, decently priced, and full of all kinds of flair. The owner is super sweet and likes to hang around and talk, especially on Sundays (when they have arts and crafts for free - yay!) The staff is cool and laid back, as is most of the clientele. While certainly a hipster/geek/whatever spot, you don't walk in to a bunch of judgmental assholes staring your down for your lack of flannel and neon sunglasses. I love the wacky retro furniture, the green walls downstairs, the bumper cars, the graffiti upstairs - all of it. It is relaxed and authentic and cool without trying to be. Love Love Love T-Moms.

You are telling me I have never written a review for Tattooed Mom? My favorite bar in Philadelphia? WHAT? This will be remedied right now. I used to live across the street from T-Moms so I was there. A LOT. You would see me upstairs on Friday nights reading comics at the bar. Even though I am now a habitant of the "Poplar" (read: just West of NoLibs) area, T-Moms is still a frequently visited spot for us. Whenever we have someone over from out of town then T-Moms is an inevitable stop. And for good reason. I love the ambience, the downstairs has vintage couches, green walls and toys as decorations. The upstairs is riddled with grafitti and art (bring a marker and add your own!), pool tables and bumper cars for seats. Inexpensive drinks (including some bad ass drink specials) and bar food FTW! The food is down simply but perfect. Taco Tuesday and Pierogie Wednesdays are both yummy and addictive. Just a great place to hang out and get your drink on. If I'm going to South Street, I'm going to T-Moms. Seriously the best in Philly.

Yes, it's dirty and yes, it's loud, but really, what's not to love? I'm utterly charmed by this place. The food is wonderful and they have specials throughout the week (ie perogies, burgers, etc). The beer is relatively cheap. There's bumper cars in the back where you can woo your date. There are pool tables. There's arts and crafts. Fliers and graffiti line the inside. Seriously, do you really need any more reasons to come here? Let your hair down for a night and stop in.

  • Dave H.

Feeling punkish? Go here. Even if you're not, still go; they welcome patrons of all types. (You'll leave with color in your hair.) Their interior is eclectic, yet somehow manages to stay low-key. There's something about sharing a couch that lends a casual feel to a place, and Tattooed Mom's is no exception. If the spinning tops and lollipops lying around don't keep you busy, their delicious tater tots will. Service was lukewarm, but friendly enough. Never found out if they had house drinks, but we knocked back shots with impunity: Swedish Fish shots fell, plus a random blend of pineapple and mango liquor ($5/each; credit cards accepted). Oh, and they have music or something.

Good Dive bar Committed To its style. Has decent food and drink specials when broke.

Great dive bar! Downstairs has a 70's retro lounge feel. The upstairs feels like the scene out of the original TMNT where the kids are introduced to the Footclan/Shredder in that spray painted warehouse..."regular or menthol?" This is a compliment. I love it. Taco Tuesday is solid. Only drawback: the downstairs smells of vomit that can't be cleaned out of the carpet. Haven't been back in months because my girlfriend can't tolerate the smell. Would be a 5 otherwise!

Tattooed Mom was recommended by a friend, so I stopped in for a late lunch one day. Perhaps this is more of an evening bar/dining establishment, because the lunch felt a little lacking. It was dead empty save one patron sitting at the bar. The food was average, although the beer selection was pretty wide. I imagine I would enjoy it a lot more in the evenings or on the weekends, but for right now, it is just OK.

This is one of the coolest dive bars in Philly! Fun ambiance, good food, cheap drinks, & great happy hour. Why say more. That sums it up!

    (5)
  • Anna A.

Ultra hipster dive bar. In the 2 or so hours I was here, I witness (inside the bar) a teacup dog being passed around, a shiny schwinn wheeled in, and several backpacks. The draft beer selection has opportunity for improvement, but you can't beat a Saturday happy hour (half off draft beer!). I had a kinzinger. This is a dive bar gone shiny hipster. Inside see vintage furniture painted pink against freshly painted green walls. There are dum dums to suck on at the table and thoughtful seating areas to relax in. Nice touches all the way around. Pass on the chips and guac - it's that store-bought fake tasting kind. The hummus platter was allright - hummus comes from a locally made joint nearby. Only gripe would be a grumpy bear bar tender who hoovered over me waiting to get his tip before his shift was out, but the dude needed to leave and get after his Saturday night.

  • Mark Z.

This is definitely one of the most awesome dive bars in Philly! A few friends and I decided to go here since we have nothing else to do.on a Friday night. The cheap beer and greasy food hits the spot (tater tots and cheese whiz is awesome). The bartender was an awesome dude and was incredibly sociable with us. He was good for cracking jokes and giving words of wisdom. Also, any bars with toys on the counter is automatically the greatest place ever!

Found this spot on Yelp and took a group of buddies there last night- great vibe and decor, fun people friendly kind of spot. Bob, the bartender, was super funny and put up with our drunken antics like a true sport.

  • James K.

I don't really know what some of the reviews here are complaining about. It's a dive bar, and a good one at that. Upstairs is cool, the staff is super nice, the food is decent bar food, and they (usually) play classic punk rock (dead boys, the clash, etc). If you're not fond of hipsters and yuppies, come here during the week, there is a pretty good crowd of rockers and such. Same for fridays after 11 or so all that yuppie/hipster stuff clears out. I personally couldn't care less who comes in because they usually leave after a round or so. So ignore the out of towner reviews and check it out if you're into the rocker scene. TL;DR-- Cold beer, hot food, rock n' roll. What more could you want out of a dive bar?

Hands down the best place on South Street to grab a bite and a beer. Lunchtime is usually pretty chill, with a few tables taken downstairs (upstairs doesn't seem to open until later on in the early evening). There is a bar with the coolest gold, glittery vinyl barstools evah. Be a nice person here, and the waitstaff will be nice to you. I would highly, HIGHLY recommend the fAlafel and hummus, or the vegan steak sandwich(ITS WHAT I IMAGINE FOOD IN VEGAN HEAVEN TASTES LIKE). They cater to vegetarians as well as meat eaters, and I find their veg dishes way more appetizing. If you have the chance to visit at night, make sure you drink upstairs. There are pool tables, little penny toys scattered around for your pocket's pleasure (tops, jumping frogs, those red fishy things that curl up in the palm of your hand). There are bumper car tables, and graffiti and band stickers covering every single inch of wallspace, even in the bathrooms. Just an experience that everyone should have at least once. DON'T MISS IT!!!!!!!

  • Andi S.

I love Tattooed Mom and have been there at least a dozen times. The food and beverage selection is good and so is the service. I really like that there is a combination of tables and chairs as well as couches. I am knocking one star off because the last time I was there, I was with several friends, we were eating and drinking and knitting downstairs int he 'middle room/section'. All of the sudden, the manager dims the lights so that we can no longer knit. When we politely asked him if he could please turn the lights back up, he was very rude to us and refused to oblige. We had hoped to make T.M. our regular knitting meet up, but when that happened we changed our minds. We also left earlier than initially planned.

Atmosphere: 99 Service: 80 Beer: 70 Food: 60 Value: 99 OVERALL: 81.6 (B-) OVERVIEW: Awesome atmosphere. Decent service. Passable beer. Sub par food. Amazing value. ATMOSPHERE: This place is awesome. Downstairs is an edgy bar. Upstairs is a hardcore punk bar, billiard hall, and lounge. Graffiti art, stickers, posters, and fliers cover every inch of the walls. The back lounge has old bumper cars you can sit in. They also have a jukebox full of punk and metal music. Oh and they have FREE CANDY! SERVICE: Nothing special. BEER: A couple good ones to get you through your stay. FOOD: I try to eat before I go, but if I need to eat there, a few things get me by. VALUE: Great prices. Especially if you make it during happy hour. FINAL THOUGHT: A fun place if you're on South Street late with a group of friends.

This is one of my favorite default locations in the area: Simple night of drinking? They've got everything from cheap PBR to cocktails. Huge group? They've got room. All alone? You'll make friends. Want Tater Tots? Of course you do. I've been here a lot, and when the question came up where to go that we wouldn't get thrown up on on St. Paddys day - we figured this was the likeliest spot. We were right, it was just another chill night at this neighborhood-ish, dive-ish, very eccentric place. Plenty of room for all of us in the upstairs sitting room, sharpie-decorated walls, and good (though a bit loud) music, and of course, Cheese-Tots.

I like Tattooed Mom. Good vibes and good people. I happened to wander into the upstairs bar for a quick beer on Sunday and it was the Philadelphia Beard Club meeting. That sure was interesting. I wish I knew what happened once they went in that back room. Beers are cheap, cheaper than their counter part Sugar Mom's. The bartenders are great company. Minus one star because bathrooms upstairs aren't clearly marked. I totally peed in the guys room and got made fun of. Sunday night is arts and crafts night. Who doesn't want to assemble a fun necklace or bracelet while drinking a beer?

You have to be a certain kind of person to frequent a place like Tatooed Mom. It's not for everyone. But even if you're not that kind of person, they're pretty welcoming. I'm not that kind of person. Well, in all fairness, it was the pre-event for the beard and mustache world championships. They had dudes with all kinds of beards and mustaches in the joint. I'm talking big long beards. I'm talking well groomed mustaches that extend well beyond their cheekbones. I'm talking overalls, suspenders, and PBR. It's the dive bar that dive bar lovers call perfect. Clean enough not to gross you out, grungy enough to make you feel like you have hair on your chest, lots of it. I enjoyed my time there, but certainly barely fit in with my weekend warrior white color goatee. It wasn't my crowd. They were the show to me, the regulars, the bearded men, and the big mustaches. But truth be told, I was the odd ball, not like them, and probably the real show. They probably gazed my way and thought, "who's uptight dude hugging the wall with his brand named clothes." Yup, I'm that guy.

WAY MORE THAN JUST A "dive bar"!! This is one of my all time favorite places to come to in Philly. So much to do..pool tables, bumper cars, wall to wall graffiti, amazing specialty drinks, beer specials all the time, amazing happy hour deals, and super delicious food. Free arts and crafts Sundays! Bar bingo once a month! I can go on and on! Such a great place to just come and hang out all day. Greatest place in the world!!!!!!

Haha. So I don't remember much, except a few randomn things. I bumped into one of my late night regulars at 500 bouncing the door here? Awsome! Were there pool tables? Funky bathrooms where ladies try to fig out their love life? love it! My Bulleit Rye and water def had enough Bulleit in it! And that I thought this place was ridiculously fun and awsome, which is hard to come by for me, since im not much of a "lets go out to a bar and drink" kinda lady. Loving this place.

I would give this place 3and a half stars but alas, if I have to choose between 3 and 4 I'm choosing 3. Good service, stiff drinks, great atmosphere. Every time I stroll into this place I end up running into a friend. The bartenders are nice, the cocktail waitress is a character, I love her demeanor! Fun place. I'm giving it a 3 because hands down, WORST food I've ever had in the entire history of me dining out all across the country. Save yourself the agony of eating here unless you're so hammered that you don't care what you consume. French fries. Just stick with french fries!

For a DIVE BAR.... this place RULES in many way! You wanna have fun in a clean, funky place with PUNK playing and children running around. This is is. It's better than I'm making it sound! Killer dive bar with many extra details that set this place apart! Trust me. it's worth a visit!

This was my favorite stop in my trip to Philly. I'm not much of a social person but this place made me feel at home. The tables are lined with candy and toys and the music was great. I went on a Monday night and there was only a handful of other people but I have to imagine the place is full on a weekend. Plenty of hard cider, and the pink puss was so sweet, like lemonade.

I LOVE this place!!!! I just went last night for like the 10th time... I like it so bad! It;s the best place ever especially if you're a bit tipsy and are easily entertained and distracted! For the love of bob there are toys on the table (which distract us from ordering almost EVERYTIME we go) It's a dope spot if that's your crowd... It's hella packed out on the weekend The atmosphere is a relaxed hipster kind of vibe, the people there are mad friendly... I've gotta into many random conversations with people where numbers are exchanged and we plan to meet up again at T-Moms... I can't speak much on the food outside of the cheese tots(reason we first tried t-moms) and Taco Tuesday. But I've never heard a complaint.. All in all if you're looking for a fun night surrounded by cool NICE care free people who aren't super sloppy drunk T-Mom's is the place to be any day of the week

While in Philly, my friends and I had a weird thing for Tattooed Mom. Surely we could find something younger and hotter, but we always ended up with the Mom. I think the main reason is the cool black lady waitress who wears shades (yes, at night) and whom my friend and I suspect is tattooed mom in essence. Tattooed mom likes to sprinkle random little toys and candy on the table. The decor is punky and funky with skulls, skeletons, and clocks. This place really grows on you. There's an upstairs with pool and crazy graffitis everywhere. I never checked out the guest DJ nights, but that happens upstairs. We mainly went there for the good deals on beer and well drinks. Oh, and the taco special! And of course, tattooed mom :)

Ecto-Cooler colored walls have bathed my memories of Tattooed Mom in a greenish glow. Its gleam is not unlike that of an aquarium, in my mind. Coincidentally fish-style drinking has happened there over the years. Hmm. The first floor is punk meets some ole granny's parlour. I kinda covet the light lime Victorian-y seating group, but I'd happily relax on any of those thrift store special sofa seats I could snag. Strange and comfortable. Good for hanging out. There are alcoves and nooks and all manner of vintage kitsch surrounding you as you drink and possibly enjoy some 50 cent pierogies on Thurday nights. Even though deep frying pierogies isn't my favorite preparation of those fellas, I can still get down, and I have. At the rail, the padded vinyl retro bar stools are like Queen Anne lounge-stools. Most comfortable bar stools in the business, I say. Perched there, I've mentioned to pretty much whoever I'm sitting next to at the time, "What if I came in here like everyday and never talked to a soul and drank and drank while leering creepily at that nudie painting?" Then I act it out for my lucky neighbor, licking my lips lecherously, drinking and staring unblinkingly at the topless broad in the oil painting above the bar. The gag gets some laughs but I'm thinking that it might be more successful if I looked more like Stan Zbornak. Gotta work on that. Upstairs is covered with graffiti and plastered with posters and band flyers like the hallways of the punk clubs of my yoot. And I like it. Good jukeboxes here, indeed. Now South Street is my touristy backyard and I do my share of complaining bout the hullabaloo and nonsense that it can attract. Weekend nights especially are when I steer clear. (Yeah that WAS me you saw dead-arm running across South, frantically uttering, "Home, home, get home...") It can be a zoo...but there are still places that we appreciate on the strip, and Tattooed Mom is one of em. Not that weeknights don't get busy. Monday through Thursday's food specials draw. So do double happy hours. 5-7PM and then 10-11 PM, all drafts are half off. See, that's what's up. Another thing, we're always treated really well at Mom's...and WE look like filthy hippies!

A fun spot on South Street. We were looking for a place to hang after the show and this one was pretty great. You're on South St., so you really need to expect to pay premium prices, even for tator tots ($8). My Dark Horse doppelbock ($6) (lots of coffee and chocolate here) was great. But the vibe is killer--totally post-punk rock, and the tots are pretty good, honestly. My PBR ($2) can smelled a little vomit-y and the bartender was a bit terse, but it gets three solid stars from me neverthless.

Very cool and hip place with lots of space - especially when they open up for the upstairs floor. The employees are extraordinarily friendly and helpful, but the service can sometimes be a little slow, because it seems like they are undermanned. They have about 6-7 different and interesting beers on tap - all domestic I think - at reasonable prices. The Dark Horse Coffee Bock was extremely interesting and definitely worth trying. All their drafts are half off during their happy hours, 5-7 AND 10-11 pm. Tried the Honey Sriracha Wings and they are some of the best wings I've ever had. Sweet, hot and not as greasy as wings tend to be.

This is my favorite place in the world. When I lived in Philly, I was literally here every single day. The regulars are a great bunch of people and the staff is amazing. I feel very lucky to count some of the staff as very good friends. Their beer selection is great! They always have some great stuff on tap! The food is surprisingly good! Taco Tuesday and Pierogi Wednesday! Used to spend hours in here drinking PBR pounders and shots of Jager and hanging out with the locals and people that came into town for a show. The jukebox is great. Some awesome punk and rock and roll. Upstairs is awesome. I love the skateboards hanging on the ceiling and I love all of the art. Sometimes they have a DJ up here and it can get pretty crazy. I really miss this place since I moved back to Jersey City. However, every time I go back to Philly, I make sure that I drop by Tattooed Mom!

I don't know why I keep coming back here. It's mediocre in general, but I like to fiddle with my phone on wifi while I eat if I'm alone, so...I guess that's why. Today I went in for lunch. I ordered a chicken quesadilla to start, then a burger with fries and an iced tea. The waiter was just...okay. I mean, he didn't do anything inherently wrong during my meal, but he was less than attentive. Generally every visit to my table was a fly-by which tends to annoy me, but I sort of shrugged it off. However... When my check came, it was itemized down the right side with a total of $21.75. I left $25.00 because a 15% tip seemed pretty fair for an okay waiter. A minute after taking the cash, he whipped around the corner and approached me. "Was there something wrong with your service?" "Uh, what?" "It's just that you tipped less than ten percent, was something wrong with your service?" It turns out that there was ANOTHER total on my check on the left side that was my actual total, a few bucks more. Now on the one hand I was glad to tip the percentage I had intended, and genuinely sorry to have not done so in the first place. On the other hand though...what a dick move. I mean. I get it. Being a daytime waiter can suck. You want to make your coins, and I respect that. But isn't it generally accepted in waiterville that if you get stiffed on a tip, you suck it up? Isn't it considered pretty much the most obnoxious thing ever to get in a customer's face about your tip? Basically what you're saying is "I think I deserve more money than what you gave me." And it's not your call, dude. So anyway, the food was the typical 'fine', the atmosphere was the same pseudo trendy hipster blah as always. I'm just torn on how to respond to this waiter's decision to get up in my face.

Went here for Dinner. The waffle fries were huge and really good. I had the falafel which was just ok. I felt bad for my friend who had the chicken sandwich because for the $7 it was the smallest and most plain thing ever. She was still hungry after, so good thing we had huge fries. The strawberry beer really made it worth it.

Stopped by on 1/19/13. Wow, what a unique place to get a beer or some food! It seems to be the perfect embodiment of the South Street vibe. While on our Philly get away weekend, the wife and I stopped here for a nightcap, before crashing out after a long day of walking the city. While the place wasn't too crowded yet, we sat at the bar. It seemed like everyone else at the bar bar were locals from how the bar tender was carrying on conversations and using their names. It didn't detract him for talking or paying us just as much attention. He was knowledgeable about the bar's offerings, and didn't mind explaining specialty drinks, or offering a beer tasting. There were little toys and candy spread out on the bar, and they were even advertising a weekly craft day, the next being make your own sock puppet. The variety of drinks offered was good, and my wife's Jameson and coke was mixed very well. Just a bit more Jameson than Coke, they way it should be. All in all, we liked this place. Heck if we lived in the area, we'd probably go enough to be regulars too.

My favorite bar in Philadelphia; always my go-to. It's big enough that you can easily come with a group of up to 8 people any night of the week. There are also plenty of nooks for private conversations. The decor is super fun, and I love that the graffitti of upstairs is always changing. All of the seating (yes, especially the bumper cars) is fantastic. The veggie burger with cheese is my favorite barfood. Cheap, but delicious. p.s. people tend to be friendlier upstairs than downstairs. There is a regulars club that hangs out at the bar and won't talk to you even if you're there alone and try to make conversation. Upstairs you can get in on a game of pool, drunk tourists will buy your whole party drinks (this has happened to me 3 times). Even if its real quiet it's tough to get the bartender to chat but it can be done. p.p.s try to get there when the Philadelphia Beard and Mustache club is having an event. You wont regret it.

The food is AWFUL! $5 for tater tots - are you people nuts! You get a better burger at Wendy's for a buck and even Chick Filet don't charge $4.50 for a handful of cold waffle fries. Paper plates and plastic cutlery are NOT cool.

Stopped in on the Saturday prior to Halloween. Never being there before I really enjoyed it. I loved the laid back vibe of the place with its mix of tables and couches. The green walls and the knick knacks on the wall and the garbage sculptures in the back windows were really cool. Because I was the designated driver I just stuck with cranberry juice. I was happy to see they had a wide selection of nonalcoholic drinks because I don't drink soda and water can get a tad boring. This is definitely a place I would like to return to.

How can anyone not love a bar that provides entertainment on the tables? Those cheap little plastic toys like the jumping frogs, kaleidoscopes, and cop badges provide us with plenty of laughs while hanging out here. And if cheap toys aren't enough, on Sundays they have arts and crafts where you can glue and glitter until you feel like you're five years old again. The general vibe of this place is what I would classify as "eclectic hipster." They have odd artwork covering their walls (including a monster outside a window in the back which I always forget it's there so that it scares me every time), retro toys like a Pinhead doll from Hellraiser, a Chucky doll, and a Stay-Puff marshmallow man around, and vintage couches to relax on. My roommate and I always want to steal the bar stools which are gold glittery vinyl with huge brass tacks that just look so awesome. There's also a bumper car in the front window to sit in, if that's your thing. The food here is pretty good, too. They have tater tots which are awesome and the pierogis which I love. Haven't tried much else on the menu but that's just because we usually come here after we've already eaten. Upstairs is pretty cool with graffiti everywhere and a few pool tables. I've only ever played pool on a weeknight so it's never crowded, but I'm sure it'd be packed on a weekend.

Previous Punk Scene, now Hip Scene, great grunge design upstairs. Great to grab a beer/food downstairs EARLY, any day. These earn the 2 stars from the rating. But at night, go here once, then never again. Avoid. I have gotten a throw-up smelling glass of beer here three of the night visits. Once there was actually throw-up on it. Order cans or bottles. The upstairs bar and pool tables are packed at night, and the bartender will purposefully ignore you if you don't tip $1 per PBR, even if you order 3 at once for friends. Once, a bartender started a facebook petition for "ordering etiquette" that explained how they will do this, in some sort of Bizzarro union tactic against the customer instead of the management. If you're not paid enough, its not the customer's fault: the beer isn't even cheaper for us. It's the management's fault. But I guess they decided they have a better chance against customers? Let's be honest, this is a nostalgia destination for the fledging punk scene being commercialized on South St. If you're young, "not from" or "new" to the city, or want to bring an out-of-towner to a place they'll think has a hip design, here's your place. If you are trying to look hip, with others trying the same thing, here's your place. If you're just looking to have a good time, you'll have to dial one of the numbers on the bathroom stall.

Tattooed Mom has a great selection of beers. My first and favorite of the beers they have, was the Peanut Butter Beer. It was delicious and well crafted. It reminded me of coffee sort of but in the form of beer. It's dark and the fizz has the texture of heated skim milk. I didn't bother trying the food, but I bet its great. I can't wait to try other selections and it's hard not to. The happy hour special is till 7 pm and the beers are around 2.50.

Tater tots. That's the only reason to come here. Well, that and the cute toys they have scattered across the downstairs and upstairs bars. Their drinks are too pricey to make for a good time. (Since a good time for me takes at least 4 drinks- I blame my bottomless stomach.) Even the PBR costs way more than it should. But a drink or two with tots will definitely put a smile on your face. Just don't forget the tots. The customers can be really chill or really really weird. One particular night upstairs had about 4 people randomly running/stomping every 5 minutes from one staircase to the other. Even the bartender was weirded out/confused. But the tater tots and company made it work. Sorta. All in all...get the tater tots.

This is the kind of place that I could get into some real trouble at. I've been to all kinds of bars, lounges, clubs, Russian saunas but Tattooed Mom has won a spot in my heart. We are talking about the quintessential South St. bar here. It's trashy and that's why it's so cool. I don't need flashy, or table service or a bunch of girls parading around in skimpy dresses. Give me punk rock, pool tables and inexpensive beer (that isn't PBR) and I'm a happy man. Thank you Tattooed Mom. I did have my iphone out soundhounding the songs that I didn't know. I wasn't embarrassed, I wanted to tag them so I could add them to my collection. I'd want to go into more detail but I feel like that would spoil the fun of this place. I look at this bar like a Rorschach test. What you think of it can tell me a lot about you. You should schedule some couch time at this place. Don't miss the dum-dums or the upstairs.

1/2 burger and veggie burgers on Monday and Thursday! Taco Tuesday! Pierogie Wednesday! $1 PBR pounders on Friday and Saturday nights! Crafts day and other theme events on Sundays! Tattooed Mom is indeed a bar that gives you an abnormal excuse to be happy everyday of the week! Grant it Sugar Moms does too, But I feel that Tattooed mom does it with less smoke and pretentiousness. It also doesn't do it in a basement and brings out a better crowd. I should have bought that up in the last review. But hanging out with 20 plus of the Yelp crew, eating Unicorn cake, basking in all the incredible figurines and artwork, and encountering an incredible server named Bobby has helped me up my love for Tattooed Mom.

Years and years and years ago, I toured with rock bands. And every time we were on tour in Philadelphia, we went to Tattooed Mom. For some reason I thought it was Tattooed Mama. Oh well, I do remember it was a cool punk bar with cheap drinks and good tunes. Ahh, the good ol' days.

I usually come here on Sunday afternoons with a few friends to enjoy the craft table they put out. Most recently, we went and had a blast making coasters. The upstairs is closed then, but I did get to enjoy it last Friday. There is a room with repurposed whip cars and some really neat art on the walls. I never have a problem getting service at the bar, and the bartenders are always friendly and personable. I will keep coming back here for glitter glue and beer!

I loved, loved, loved. Boyfriend has been talking pretty much nonstop about Tattooed Mom since we started dating. Raving about it, actually. We almost didn't come in last night, because he was unsure if I'd "be able to hang" with the crowd. (He is very tattooed, and explained that the clientele here is tattooed and pierced as well, which I am not.) But I ain't scuuurrrred, so I insisted he take me inside for one last drink before we had to catch the train back to the Dirty South (Jersey.) I'm so glad he did. The atmosphere in here is so freaking cool. The furnishings, the bar, the paint color, the pictures of naked people all over. I loved everything about it!!! I especially loved that the table under the steps was unoccupied, and that it also featured a deep red plushy couch tucked into the alcove. It's sexy as hell in here. I had no idea what I felt like drinking, but I knew I wanted something with some sweetness to it. The red-lipped, straight-blonde-banged girl sitting at the bar was sipping on something light blue and slightly fizzy with two cherries inside. I'll have what she's having! The bartender is super friendly. "It's experimental," he tells me, "but it's good. It's....nostalgic." What he gives me is a frothy, funky concoction of cotton candy vodka, blue curacao, and...I forget the last ingredient. Sprite? Ginger ale? I have no idea, but it was GOOD! It was great actually. And the fresh cherries absorbed the delicious flavor of the vodka. The crowd, which was diverse for sure, all seemed to be having a good time. I love that they have small tables, couches, and a communal table. The vibe in here is the coolest thing about this place. It's relatively quiet, there's no fist-pumping, and everybody is pretty much doing their own things. This is a place I could camp out at for a night. We were only able to stay for about 20 minutes, but I would love to come back and spend more time.

Dive bar with lots of places to sit and great selection of beers on tap. Very good prices as well. The bartenders were great, very patient and knowledgeable. Bathrooms are big, but there is only one of each. They would do themselves a favor to add a few stalls, instead of the one toilet in each.

I think this is one of the most unique dives I've ever been too. I love it downstairs is alright but upstairs is where it's at. Great bar AMAZING FOOD. This place is a must for anyone seeking uniqueness.

Food poisoning. Do not have the beef quesadilla. I am regretting this tremendously. The place is fine and the service is a bit above mediocre. Have a drink, avoid all food items.

mom's is usually a good time. double happy hour specials, ftw. i have spent most time in there on the first floor. excellent people-watching. no matter what time of day/night i hang here, there always seem to be at least one couple intoxicatedly mackin it up against a wall somewhere. i'm not mad about it.

I knew this bar was the twin sister to Sugar Mom's. I just didn't know how for the longest time. I may have been here a good 4-5 times before and didn't really see a resemblance at all. Walk in, see wall-to-wall seafoam green paint. A moderate sized bar and lots of tables and seats. Nothing like Bozo the Clown's sordid basement on Church street. Tattooed had all of the same specials though which had me come back when on South Street, like $1 PBR pounders on weekend nights, perogies, and such. Still, it was all a question to me of how, why, and where. No, not until this past weekend. I finally went with a friend who clearly knew what he was doing. When he arrived, he immediately told us to go upstairs. Wahh? There's an upstairs? That's when it all made sense to me. I finally saw the kinship of the two maternal locales.

OK....I was so wrong. This place is god awful. The last 2 times i've gone back the service has been piss poor and the food is terrible. I feel like I ate a mushed up veggie burger in an old shoe. When a friend told the waitress/bartender that his soda was flat she just said "oh its cola, not coke". What the fuck does that even mean? When did 0 bubbles become cola? The prices at first glance are OK then when you add all of your toppings you're getting into the $11 range for simply a sandwich....no sides. Terrible.

Great food to go along with a great selection of beers. I often find myself here during happy hour. This is definitely the place to go on south street to avoid any obnoxious wasted people. My favorite part was the music and the bathrooms which are filled with some of philadelphia's finest street artists.

  • Adam K.

Fun bar. It's actually pretty big and they have a lot of couches and tables beyond the front bar. Lotta carpet so that was weird but it adds to the atmosphere. Weird vintage figures on the wall and a killer jukebox if you're into punk rock and some older hip hop. Drink prices are normal and they have food options too. There are a lot of places to eat on south street but this can be a good contender if you get hungry and dont want to leave the bar. Vegan options as well.

Tattooed Mom still captures a bit of that punk flair so much of South Street still inherently lacks. As such, its still my favorite bar whenever I'm in the mood to drink down there, though I haven't done that very often since my friend and I were attacked one night heading home. The draft selection is decent, but doesn't seem to change often; Philadelphia Brewing's Walt Wit and Magic Hat are what I usually go for. PBR pounders are only a buck or two, if that's your thing. They even have decent grub, and on Thursdays pierogies are a paltry 50 cents, which is unbeatable. This is probably one of the few chances you have to get pierogies served with guacamole, and if that sounds crazy you HAVE NOT LIVED, SIR OR MADAM. The jukeboxes are one thing I love about this place. Downstairs is mostly indie rock, and upstairs is mostly punk or metal. Either way, you'll probably find something you can't throw on anywhere else. There's pool (pay per play) and if you're a board game enthusiast, you can usually find Battleship or Connect Four lying around. Overall, a fun place, and one of my favorite spots in ol' Society Hill, for what it's worth.

  • Serena S.

$1 PBR on weekends as well as the cheap and very good pierogies and tater tots keep me coming back to this place. The service isn't always the friendliest (which knocks off the star for me), but that's the only downside. While the waitress might not smile, she never forgets an order and everything comes out in a timely manner. I bring my own friends, so the crowd is irrelevant to me. I guess we're those hipster/scene kids you all keep talking about. Cheers.

My favorite bar in the city, and I think that says a lot because there are so many good bars in center city. I've been coming here for a long time and the one thing that has always remained consistent is the atmosphere: people are always a mixed crowd of interesting people to meet and the staff is beyond courteous - and patient with certain loud drunkards ;) The food is good but I usually prefer to hang out upstairs.

Wow. I was not prepared for the awesomeness of Tattooed Mom. We had an unofficial Yelp Happy Hour here - read: about 20 of us took over the place without any warning. There was one server, Bobby, tending to all of us, and he did an amazing job. He got our food to us quickly, ditto for drinks, he split the tab several times, and not once did he even seem the slightest bit frazzled. He was downright graceful and cheerful the whole time - he even brought us plates for the amazing UNICORN CAKE baked by Jenna C. Needless to say, I am extremely impressed by the service. My food got lost and I ended up waiting about an hour to actually get it, but the pancake-sausage thing on a stick was actually totally awesome. (Curiosity overwhelms my sense of reason sometimes, but this strange food had a satisfying payoff.) The pierogies were also excellent, and for 25 cents a piece, you couldn't go wrong. I don't even like pierogies, but these were little fried pockets of heaven. Mmm... trans fat. The atmosphere was absolutely perfect for the event. I found it to be a little campy at first (it's very obviously owned/operated by the same people from Sugarmom's), but since it's on South Street, the camp works. It meant we could act totally ridiculous and not get thrown out. So feel free to bring a lot of friends, play with plastic novelties on the table and relive your childhood nostalgia, or get racy and start ladyposing next to the leopard-print cushions on the couch... Mom wants you to have a good time.

this place feels a bit too much like home a familiar mix of my brother's room and grandmother's kitchen but with alcohol cute boys and girls and corndogs which sounds like a really naughty good party

Stopped in here the other night after a show at the TLA. It's the only bar on South Street that I have any interest in entering. The beer is cold, the lollipops are free, and there are TONS of options (for a place that serves comfort 1970s mom bar food) for vegetarians and vegans, which I love. Now, if only they wouldn't run out of tater tots EVERYTIME I go there, I'd be a happier girl.

I'm the 88th person to review Mom's, so you don't really NEED me to tell you about it, but I love this place so much, I just feel compelled to tell you anyway. This is pretty much my favorite bar ever. Yes, it can get a tad hipster/scenesterish, depending on when you're there, but I think what I like about Mom's is that it's not a fashion show, it's not a popularity contest - pretty much all walks come here, and they're in too good a mood while they're here to judge you, because it's such a fun place. People who don't like hipsters can go to Mom's and inadvertently befriend one. And hipsters may walk out with a new "bro" pal or "dude" friend. You never know. In addition to good vibes and nice staff, TM's gets an A+ for the deliciosity of their bar food and kitschy, weird, dirty garage band/basement vibe decor.

$1.50 tacos? Awesome. $1.50 PBR tallboys? Awesome. (Only on Tuesdays? Hey, I can't get drunk every night anyway, whatever.) I love how the downstairs feels like a totally different place from the upstairs. If only the rest of South Street wasn't so awful. I'll have to go back and try this sausage-wrapped-in-a-pancake-on-a-stick business.

I really don't like this section of South Street, especially at night when it fills up with drunk bro dudes looking fight. I've never had the food but it's a great place to go with a bunch of friends and get sloppy drunk off of cheap PBR's. The Jukebox is really good and offers a solid mix of punk, metal, indie, soul, 80's etc. The upstairs bar has a really great shitty punk rock vibe and is pretty large (good for groups!). From these other reviews it sounds like I need to try the food soon!

This is the only bar worth going to on South Street, and it's my favorite bar in Philadelphia. I love their Sunday craft brunch & weekday dinner specials, but I love the staff the most. So friendly! And such a warm, comfortable ambiance -- the downstairs couches are like home. One of the best jukeboxes in town, and NO TELEVISION. Moms is the best!

  • Karla G.

Ok, so I am going to be a little biased since Mom's is my FAVORITE hangout, ever! I am absolutely addicted to Mom's cheap Veggie food and PBR specials. There are always food specials going on including $3 regular and veggie burgers on Monday and Thursday, Taco Tuesdays, Pierogie Wednesdays, and half price sandwiches on the weekend during the day. There are also tons of beer specials and even when there's not everything is reasonable. Free craft Sundays are the perfect place for cheap fun. They have a craft table open to guests including coloring books, felt, construction paper, and even GIMP! There are also tons of great board games to play while hanging out and once a month they so a specialty craft like making sock puppets or ties for father's day. The atmosphere is both chill and artistic punk at the same time. The memorabilia is everywhere and ranges from a bumper car in the front window to a 16" Stay Puffed Marshmallow Man on one of the shelves. The little alleyway has some great exhibits of crafts past including two robots that strangely resemble c3po and the robot from Mystery Science Theater. You'll notice a lot of different crowds hanging at moms including what's left of the dwindling Philly punk scene, bike messengers, your indie artists and even some of the "newer" South Street crowd is making their way to the bar for a new experience. The bar tenders and wait staff are all great without a doubt. Add a blend of old school punk, new wave, indie and even country tunes from the jukebox and you're set for the night. Thanks, mom.

It's easy to hate on South Street bars, but similar to what Nate F. said - TM has remained consistently awesome despite the area's rapid decline. The downstairs and upstairs provide two very different climes for drinking - I usually opt for the sea foam green downstairs for lounging on the couches and conversation, and upstairs for pool and drunken cigarettes. The food isn't particularly anything special - it's bar food, but GOOD bar food at that. Like most have already mentioned, the pierogies are top notch - so much I went for the Wednesday special last night. And I love the basket of condiments they give you. I'm a sucker for condiments. Good times all around.

Good spot for some good fried bar food. decent beer selection. service can be spotty for this almost-dive. Really this is the only bar on South Street worth anything. I kick it in here every now and then. Try the pancake wrapped sausage corn dog thingy. Also, taco night and pirogi night are must attend philadelphia events. srsly. cheap cheap cheap. good shiz.

  • Katie C.

Came here on my one and only night out while visiting a friend in Philly. I spent far more on the jukebox than I did on drinks, which tells you two things: 1. The jukebox is incredible, and 2. I clearly managed to get drunk enough for cheap enough to blow the rest of my cash subjecting the rest of the bar to endless Reatards and T.Rex songs. I fully intend to repeat the experience the next time I visit Philadelphia.

A good friend dragged me here and I'm so glad I checked it out. The downstairs is colorful, clean and eclectic. We sat at both the bar and in a little spot I'll call "the opium den" under the stairs. Drinks were affordable and yummy. Try the "Mom Bomb!" It's a glass of Mountain Dew that you drop of shot of Jaeger into. It's like a white trash energy drink and we had 4, so you know they're awesome. The upstairs should be in the basement, it's just that vibe. The walls are covered in band flyers, Sharpie graffiti, and a mish mash of crap you'd cover the walls of your room with if you were a punk teenager. The jukebox is one of the best I've seen, packed with classics and the very best hard and fast punk rock anthems. There's some cool old cars from carnival dark rides in the back room, just begging for a make-out session. I can't imagine a trip to Philly that wouldn't include a trip to this bar. Definitely one of my new favorites.

  • Melissa B.

I would not recommend this bar to anyone that I know. It is probably the grungiest and dirtiest bars on south street! The graffiti all over the place makes the place look really groos and dirty. The food is really bad and the bartenders are extremely rude! Needless to say, I will not be visiting this place ever again.

  • Louis T.

You can drink your PBR in a bumper car, but it doesn't have pinball, which is kind of a huge whiff. Fun, but not at the level of Bob & Barbara's or Tritone.

  • Vaughn B.

When I get through Philadelphia I always try and stop by here. First time was years ago and not much has changed except the crowd. That's the reason for the low rating. The food and the drinks I'd give a higher score but the clientele had me wanting to punch my own face. Maybe I'd do better on a school night or somethin. Either way, whenever I'm in town you will more likely than not find me here at the bar, even if it's a brief stop.

Tattooed Mom's is my favorite place to hang out in the city. Cheap food, cheap beer and a friendly bunch of people make this place enjoyable. Tattooed Mom's is not a bar for the local yuppies and to be honest if you are one of those people I would rather you stay away. There are plenty of other "spots" you can go and drink yourself until you think you are back in your Frat / Sorority days. I love the food there and since my wife and I eat there on quite a regular basis we have mad most of what is on the menu. Anna whips up some mean Tacos and an awesome veggie chicken Parmesan sandwich. They have a great beer selection however I stick to the PBR pints and pounders, especially on Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights when a pounder only costs you a buck. Bobby and Sara are the coolest and friendliest servers / bartenders I have met in this city. Sara will always crack you up and Bobby is always attentive, he also has some really cool art work for sale at Jinxed on 4th Street. So if you are not an uptight yuppie or a bunch a rowdy frat boys please stop by. Sandwiches are always 1/2 price from Noon until 4PM and there are always nightly food and beer specials. Oh, before I forget if you are not a veg order a pancake and sausage on a stick they are so damn good.

I can't decide if Tattooed Mom's is cool anymore. I just can't. I mean, it used to be, years ago... then it stopped when people found out about it. Then it got too popular and people started leaving, which made it cool again. Now it's flooded with art school kids from the burbs who have a belly full of cheap pieroges and think the idea of drinking while sitting inside an old bumper car is a novel one. I can't get too down on the place, it has one of the few killer jukeboxes in all of center city, but it seems like enjoying the music isn't good enough. You have to look the part, too. And by looking the part, I mean the type of person who tries too hard to look like they're not trying too hard. Not a bad place overall, but personally I'll wait a few years for it to be cool again before going back.

I think everyone has a love/hate relationship with Mom's. I live close by, so it is a default bar for my friends and me. We used to go upstairs a lot (smoking in the back room, pool tables), but I find the downstairs much more appealing now. It's much more tame, especially on a week night, it's almost quiet. The upstairs usually makes you feel like doing drugs in the bathroom and/or making out with strangers. I have seen mice downstairs, which is sort of an unspoken truth about restaurants, but I like to remain in denial of it and not have the evidence run across the floor. Tattooed Mom's is pretty inexpensive, and the food is good. They have good daily food and drink specials. I just don't necessarily recommend going on the weekends.

The best part about tatooed mom's the crappy upstairs with scribbles all over.. or at least it was when i was there a long long time ago.. If you were a regular back then, you probably know a cute happy little goth girl named suzi Q.. siouxie.. or something of that sort.. that's my gal! She used to hang out there tons, and she's the one who dragged me there decked out in her leather apparel.. REAL friends make you play dress-up! Anyway, hanging out at tatooed mom's with her always made me feel like we were little kids again with our own special secret clubhouse.. but we were the bad kids, the ones drinking alcohol.. Sue always went for the cops hanging out outside once she was even the littlest bit tipsy-- what is it with punkrawk girls and men in uniform?!

    (4)
  • Alicia O.

It's definitely one of the better bars on South Street. I used to think it was an actual tattoo parlor before I walked in. Oops. Decent drinks and I like any place that have Taco Tuesdays and Pierogi Wednesdays specials. If you're anti-smoking, I'd suggest staying downstairs with the puke green walls. You can smoke, play pool, and write on the walls upstairs.

    (4)
  • Christina S.

This bar pulls no punches. It doesn't represent itself as something it isn't, and most people here don't either. The food is nothing to write home about.. then again, I don't think they boast about being a five star restaurant. The atmosphere is good, and the staff is good, too. This is a good place to go, although I'd pick going during the eve over the day.

If this place didn't take itself so seriously (a NINE DOLLAR SANDWICH! WITH NO SIDE? ARE YOU KIDDING ME?) it might be better. I was so disenchanted with the overpriced Morningstar Farms items microwaved (literally) thrust at me on a black, plastic plate - I will never return. Honestly, I'd rather head home intoxicated and raid the fridge for stale leftovers. I ordered the "chicken" club and sauteed spinach. Primarily because their fryer was down (in a bar? You have ONE fryer?Okay...) but also because, having been to Royal Tavern, which does an EXCELLENT job with produce in comparison, I was not afraid of ordering sauteed vegetables from a "pub". BIG mistake. The spinach reeked of can and was served on the afore-mentioned black plastic plate with two wedges of bar lemon. The lemons' appearance was mysterious - they neither added or detracted from the limp mound of tinny green. The sandwich was perfectly adequate. But it doesn't take a culinary genius to toss a veggie patty and some facon in the microwave oven, slather some mayo on a toasted bread, and call it a $9 sandwich. My friend, unfortunately, made the mistake of ordering a $8 spinach salad. Which was clearly a small pile of bagged baby spinach leaves (served on the same small-ish, black plastic plate) topped with sad, pre-sliced mushrooms and pallid tomatoes. Perhaps when you are drunk you don't care about spending a lot on crappy food, you might not mind the discrepancy. This is the best I can say. I wasn't there for happy hour, so I ended up spending what I would at Royal Tavern. And the food was not nearly as good.

Nobody loves you like the Mom's. Whether it's Taco Tuesday or Sunday Afternoon Arts and Crafts, it's Good Times at Tattooed Moms. Super involved in the communiy, they come out to or host events, and they give back! (Geeks Who Give just had a Game Night there for Philadelphia Futures, it rocked, and we have the pictures to prove it flickr.com/search/?q=gee… ) Whenever they show up in my twitter stream, I actually get a craving for a peirogie & a lionshead - Now that's some good marketing! On my birthday, they actually brought out Birthday Pierogies, with birthday candles that I had to blow out. twitpic.com/1xb5h Only one word for that kind of love: Epic.

reviewing this place is quite an undertaking. there's just so much to say. so much GOOD. i don't think this bar has anything wrong about it. taco tuesdays, $1 pbr weekend nights til 11, lollipops and candy strewn on the tables, two floors, pool table, comfy seating downstairs (favorite spot is the cozy corner right in front of the bar), jukebox, awesome decor, arts & crafts day. since i can't say it all, just do yourself a favor and go if you haven't (which if you haven't i don't understand how you live in philadelphia).

I love Taco Tuesdays! You can't beat a delicious $1 taco at a great little bar with nice ambiance and cool music. Plus they have hot sauce right at the table so I don't even have to ask for it extra. You can't beat that.

Loved the decor! Came here with the locals I came to Philadelphia to visit, this was our first stop on a Friday night. Not too crowded for the 8pm hour, cheap beers (Yeungling, I love you) and free Dum-Dums on the tables. I didn't partake of the $1 PBRs and it looks like I should try the food next time based on some really good yelp reviews. I'll be back!

Let's see... is it cool to hate this place now because it's becoming too cool to hang out here? Or is it so cool to hate this place that it's even more cool to come here anyway even though you know you're better than that? Augh. You know what? I don't care. This bar is unique, fun, and no matter what some people say, you still don't have to deal with a lot of bullshit here, and I like that. So what if a few hipster fuckers want to sit around and be annoying? I'd rather have that than a bunch of frat boys. At least I can kick a hipster's ass if need be.

Curse you, Passover. You severely limit my options when I go out to eat. Thank goodness for being able to eat fries and wings during those 8 dreaded days. Came in on a Friday night with a friend of mine; for both of us it was our first time, but even though we were both keeping Passover, it was a blast! It's very homey, the food and drinks are well-priced, and they run specials all the time. And they do have Strongbow, which makes me VERY happy! Can't wait to come back for Craft Day on Sundays from 12-4!

Had a great time here on 4/16/2010. Went in early enough to get a comfy couch seat and take advantage of the PBR pounders special. Food is nothing special, typical bar food. Great place. There is a double happy hour, 5-7, and 10-11, which is really nice. If you can get a seat at the bar its a great place to start off the night. The $2.50 PBR talls are a nice touch as well.

The waiter, a good but over-priced beer, and the random guy promoting his band, make this a 4-star visit. Otherwise I wasn't impressed, even with the kindergarten meets hipster decor.

Whenever I'm in Philly I try to stop @ Tattooed Mom's. This is my kinda bar. Great cheap beer specials, really laid back and original atmosphere..it's just my idea of a good time, plus no one stares at me like "OMG who's the tattooed freak lady?" look I get at some other more "normal" establishments hahaha. I've been here a few times and I feel like an idiot because I had no idea there was an upstairs..so next time I'll be sure to venture to that area. Oh, and they play good music and have cheese tater tots...my absolute fave. What's not to like?

Used to come here years ago. I was called a c0cksucker for trying to get the bartender's attention on a busy night. That was the last time I went for the rest of my twenties! Returned with a bunch of friends recently on a slow night. Great atmosphere and decent service! It's a comfortable bar on South Street.

The interior is as colorful and eye-catching as the outside banner. This really is a place every vegetarian should check out. It's affordable and delicious. I'm all about "fake meats"... From veggie corn dogs, tacos, and cheese steaks, this place has it all! Plus, they have pear Woodchuck!! If you haven't gone for the food yet, trust me, it's in your best interest to try it out!!

Ok, this is officially my favorite bar on the East Coast. There's clearly a rule that everybody that works at Tattoed Mom has to be complete eye candy and have only a slight air of aloofness about him. They also have toys that they give away if you're well behaved. Sunday night I was offered a plethora of spinning tops, horoscope fish and spider rings. There are a few chatty regulars that hang out and when it's last call they're really very sweet about it. Maybe they're not as excited to go home as some other places, but they're gentlemen and that's pretty much what makes me return to a watering hole. That and good conversation, last night we had a literary crowd, very pleasant. Oh, the bar is bi level, the top is kinda skanky, which is fully what you'd expect, except downstairs is ..well.. shabby chic. Sex oozes from the decor, the bar stools are the most comfortable gold sparkly place to put your tush. This is one of those bars where girls go to be naughty, girls like me anyway. Next time...

Four Stars! It's a pretty big place, although I don't smoke they let people smoke in the back room upstairs. The beer is cheap, the food is good or was it because I was drunk? No, no...the veggie burger and waffle fries are delicious! I didn't like the bartender, he was anal retentive and had an attitude problem. Bumper cars, couches, and pool tables galore!

Stopped by for a bite. Got an order of wings to start. We got the wings for free because they didn't have enough in the restaurant for a "full" order. Appreciated that, but was confused as to how they ran out of wings relatively early in the evening. They were really good wings, though. I had the quesadilla appetizer as an entree -- way too many jalepenos for my taste, and it was dry. OK beer selection. We went on "Free Arts & Crafts" night -- they have a table set up with all sorts of kindergarten craft supplies -- googly eyes, glue, popsicle sticks, pipe cleaners, coloring books and crayons, etc.

my first time at Tattooed Mom was Saturday. It was freaking amazing! $1 PBR pounders were awesome. And the oldschool bumper cars in the back were so awesome. I love all the graffiti and craziness all over the walls, and also, a dude from CAMEL came and gave out 2 packs to like everyone. Got drunk for cheap.

  • Herb B.

PBR, tater tots, cheap tacos made from an Ortega taco kit. Punk rock and some random old R&B soul tracks thrown in. Cheap whiskey and a great staff. Just what you want. Do not recommend on the weekends it's bad. Real bad. The week days are pure gold.

Tattooed Mom is a great dive where one can rock drafts from PBR to Sierra Anniversarys. There were some fine ladies, friendly locals and a lot of texture in atmosphere. Works for me.

I have been frequenting this place lately and have decided to give it a review. I have tried many things on their food menu, tacos, pierogies, cheesesteak, hummus, burgers, etc., and everything has been pretty great. My absolute favorite menu item is the chicken steak, it is simple but really good (and half price fri, sat, and sun @ lunchtime :)). Every day they have some sort of special going on so you can always eat and drink for little money. My boyfriend and I just got tacos and two drinks for dinner for less than $10.00! The service can be a little slow and unpleasant but it almost brings character to this place. The decor is also cute and you get cute little party favors to play with!

  • David C.

My kind of bar - A bit divey, cheep drinks, good pub-grub, great jukebox, pool tables, bumper cars, and colorful atmosphere. They tend to have special events there, including punk reunions, potato fests, craft days, and zombie-themed craziness. Not you average bar by any means.

Tatooed moms is ok I guess... I hadn't been there in a few years, then I was in town the other day and met some old friends there... Nothing has changed a bit, other than that you can't smoke now downstairs.. (hahaha... if you know this place, you know this is pretty ammusing) Anyhow, if you're a 21-25 Year old punk enthusiast who still lives in your parents basement, that Tatooed Moms is for you... I however; am not. In 1998 maybe yes? But, fact of the matter is, I may still be a Jeans and T shirt guy, but my Obelisk Jeans and Morphine Generation Ts generated me some strange looks by many T-Moms goers. My Jeans probably cost more that any of the T-moms patron's Cars and when that reality hit me, I realized I may have finally out grown Tatooed Moms.

Best bar in town, hands down. I love this place. I love the decor and feel to it. $1 PBRs, who could go wrong. I also like when they have decorating nights. You could decorate a skull, or ear of corn, whatever. Fantastic!

there's not very many reasons to head down to south street (there are some, and weirdly, they're all within blocks of tattooed mom's, but that's neither here nor there...) however, sometimes one needs a cheap beer, a relatively chill atmosphere, and a basket of tots with sriracha on top. this is a place where you can find all of these things.

    (4)
  • Mick P.

Another great bar in Philly. Although on South Street it is pretty close to Broad Street making it pretty far from all of the other action. This does not take away from the bar. Graffiti, stickers, and posters are all over the walls and make for a fun, interesting, and different ambiance. The clientele may be a bit intimidating (picture punk rockers and bikers with tattoos and piercings) but everybody tends to be pretty friendly.

I'm re-visiting this review because last night Mom showed us that she was both large and in charge. Our Unofficial Yelp Happy Hour pulled in a massive amount of people and Bobby, the dude who was basically running the entire restaurant, took such good care of us that all night long we kept wondering if he was an actual human or a robot. With speed, agility and humor he kept the drinks and pierogies coming all night. So Bobby, we salute you and Mom's. You continue to have a special place in my heart.

Mom's has been a favorite of mine since they opened. Service is usually pretty good, the drinks are reasonably priced, and the kitchen is open fairly late. Now that the smoking ban is in place, there really is no downside from a 'features' perspective. As mentioned in other reviews, Mom's embraces the punk/rock aesthetic, along with toys, so you're sure to find lound music playing at a range of volumes (depending on the whimsy of the staff) and the tables and bar littered with 5-and-dime toys. The clientele is an inked bunch, and there are sure to be a few messenger bikes locked up outside. If this is not your type of scene, cheap PBR pounders on Taco Tuesday and Pieroghi Wednesday will probably not be enough to win you over. There is by no means a dress code, but white collars stick out - if you normally change out of said white collar when heading out for beers, this place will most likely just make you feel old. Upstairs you'll find two pool tables, frequently occupied by tavern league teams and more often just occupied. There's also another bar, and a back room where the smoking ban may or may not be strictly enforced. The back room also has a set of restrooms, lest you walk all the way downstairs for relief. When things are hectic on South Street, it's usually a lot more mellow inside Mom's, if only because the punk-esque (and fairly white) vibe is not really attractive to the diverse but predictable mix (NJ 'burbs and Grays Ferry...holla!) of people strolling and cruising South. Another factor is that there are no TVs on in this bar, which also affects the make-up of the regulars. Best feature is Sarah the waitress, who is the perfect mix of experience, sweetness and no-nonsenseness. If you find it strange that she's wearing dark sunglasses at midnight on a Saturday, come back a few more times and it'll seem more natural.

  • Aaron J.

Sure it's a greasy hipster haven, but granted, it's really not such a bad place to grab a cheap drink. One of South Street's better choices.

    (3)
  • Omar E.

Cheap beer, pretty girls, good punk-rock jukebox, 50 cent pierogies, pool tables, two floors, bar and table seating. Nuff said.

    (4)
  • Leah G.

A Philadelphia staple! The owner, a woman in her forties, has pink hair! That says a lot about the place. Some of the punk/ dive bar culture has disappeared from South Street since the Cadillac Grille and other places have closed, some of the older stores have moved or closed, and its a sad thing. I don't think most people want South Street to be gentrified, and it has moved somewhat in that direction. They even removed the gum tree just so they could expand the side walks and put in red lamp posts! But anyway, I'm really happy Tattooed Mom is still there. There is a great lunch deal on Wed, 50 cent perrogies! They have a good jupe box and comfortable seating if you go there for drinks. And, an added benefit, friendly staff.

LOVE YOU MOM! & I love T Moms!!! (Sugar Moms too). You can still smoke upstairs by the bathrooms, 2 pool tables upstairs in the front too! Veg. options.- Taco Tuesdays! Perogie Wednesdays! Cheap drinks! Jukebox is killer on both floors. Can't say a bad thing about the place... hands down a Philly landmark!

    (5)
  • Sonya S.

This is the first bar I had been to in Philly. My first visit was about 3 years ago. One look at the jukebox selection was enough to add TM to my regular rotation of watering holes. I love the decor and especially when they have the arts and crafts made by customers up around the holidays. I went to TM last spring around Mother's Day on a study break to simply grab food and instead ended up spending a couple hours making a card for my Mom with the table of arts and crafts goodies they had laid out. Best study break I can remember!

The epitome of a dive bar, but in a good sense. Small but cheap selection of beer, some finger food, pool table and bumper cars - what else does one need??

  • Igor L.

Though coming here as huge yelp crowd was entertaining for some booze-fueled good times this place has few redeeming qualities beyond cost. The food, if it can be called such, is of Philadelphia Public School cafeteria caliber - bringing back such horrors as Tater tots and Chicken fingers. The Mrs. T Pirogues were palatable, however, as was the Falafel but both require the culinary expertise and patience of ... well, me. Preheat Oven...Open package... Insert item... Done in 1o-15 minutes. I generally refrain from eating while out what I can prepare at home in a 30 minute time crunch. My take on this place was not helped by its dank basement feel. What some have called in earlier reviews the bars "punk-rock appeal" - seems to me like a bullshit excuse by the owners not to invest back into the business and pocket cash instead. Shit furniture, institutional green colored walls (???) that badly need repainting, 80's retro memorabilia and half-assed arts and crafts projects does not a punk bar make. Where is the anti-establishment message? The anti-authoritarian ideologies? All I see is PBR specials... No thanks.

  • Tim O.

Tattooed Mom and Repo Records, the only reasons, i say, to hit South Street. And mostly books and aids thrift, but technically they're on Bainbridge. Always specials. from $1 pabst tall boys to 25cent pierogies. 2 pool tables and a large smoking area upstairs, as well as another bar, couches and bumper cars to sit in. good punk jukebox. big menu, reasonable prices. interesting art everywhere imaginable. a definite dive, the bathrooms prove it. not imposing at all, even for a khaki panted man and his sweat panted wife, very welcoming. so go alone or with your kelly clarkson loving cousin, you'll feel fine either way.

    (5)
  • Lene P.

I haven't spent much time downstairs, I'm more of a fan of UPSTAIRS. I like sitting in the bumper cars or watching someone play pinball. I don't drink beer but the drinks I got were affordable and strong. The bar food is great. I guess I have yet to go to a bar where the food sucked. It's a fun place, I really like the atmosphere. I've only gone here during the weeknight so I'm not sure about the weekend experience.

    (5)
  • Jessa G.

This place has the best bar stools at the downstairs bar. That would be enough for greatness, but they take it further with a good veggie burger and tater tots, and decent cheap beer. Every time I've been there the service is pretty good, the bathroom is clean, and the atmosphere is cozy and interesting; i.e. if the conversation is boring there's plenty to gaze at!

    (4)
  • Rachel L.

Tattooed Mom's is great. The drinks are stiff and the beer is cheap. But better than all of that are the perogies. I just ate some. potato-y and greasy. Wednesdays they are 25 cents a piece, and pan fried to perfection. Decor is kitchy and cool, and the free lolly pops and toys add to the experience. Like Chrissy R., i don't hang out on south street all that often, but tattooed mom's is where i go when i am there.

    (4)
  • steven e.

There has been a whole lot of dirtiness happinin' in the bumper cars. I know for a fact. Tattoo mom's also has the cleanest "grungy" bathrooms in Philly. They look nasty, are covered with Sharpie graffiti and stickers. But the toilets are almost always spotless. Even on a weekend night. It's not that punk either. Go in on a Wednesday afternoon and sometimes the bartender will throw on some Sinatra.

    (4)
  • John W.

I really don't care for bars, so when I end up meeting people for drinks, I try to steer them here. Cheap food, cheap beer, couches, plenty of space. I like not elbowing everybody else in the bar or swimming through a sea of people just to piss.

    (4)
  • Katie L.

So I ventured here with a few friends one night and I really enjoyed it. Well, I enjoyed most of it. The drinks were cheap (around 5.50 for a single mixer) but they weren't big at all, which was a down fall. I downed two Soco and Diets and wasn't feeling a thing. It's nice that they have a smoking section upstairs in the back, and I didn't even mind the death-metal screamo music playing, what I did mind was the wealth of creepers sitting alone staring at me and a group of guys who thought it was a good idea to teach each other the proper way to "scream." I would've enjoyed sitting one the first floor, where the music was better and the crowd was a lot less to handle, but I guess when you go into a place looking the way it does, what are you suppose to expect?

Pierogie night, Taco Tuesdays, Craft Sundays... Could a girl want anything more out of a bar?! Absolutely not! Tattooed Mom's has been one of my favorite bars of all time even before I lived in Philly! It's a great bar to go to whether you want a relaxing couple-a-drinks and good conversation with some good buds or if you want to drink your face off and get crazy wasted with those same good buds. With two stories to do either in, it's got way more than enough room. It also has one of my favorite "bar food" menus because it features selections for both carnivores and herbivores alike. For instance, on one menu you can find your carnivorous sandwiches and on a seperate menu, you can find those same exact sandwiches veggie-style! That way, nobody misses out. Mom's definitely has something for everybody.

    (5)
  • Steph M.

Mom's is my go-to bar when I just want to relax with friends while drinking cheap beer and eating cheap food... without feeling cheap. It's sort of like hanging out in your crazy great-aunt's living room, if your aunt had disaffected hipsters lounging about and a velvet nude on the wall. You can't beat the specials, either. Wednesdays are my favorite, featuring 25 cent pierogies. Taco Tuesdays aren't bad either. If, like me, you're OK with drinking shitty cheap beer when it only costs a dollar, head over on Fridays or Saturdays for $1 PBRs. And don't miss the monthly craft days, held on Sundays. You might decorate anything from a potato to a construction paper heart with paint, glitter, pipe cleaners and googly eyes. And be still my heart--they added tater tots to the menu!

Check out craft Sundays. Good crowd of fabulous people, cheap drinks and 1st grade style crafts....awesome!

$1 Pabst Tallboys. Coming from a state that doesn't believe in happy hour (it's against the law here in uptight MA), or in its residents being very happy at all for that matter, the drink special alone did it for me. Had a great veggie burger too. Fun place to spend time post crust show at Troc.

Yes, yes, yes! I want random furniture and bizarre knick knacks and a great list of beers, wines, and other drinks to whet your whistle at this great south street dive. Love that each table comes with a table full of dum dums and penny toys like spider rings to keep people like me coming back for me. The graffitti room upstairs is pretty rad, too, but i prefer the more low-key setting downstairs. My favorite place for drinks in philly for sure!

    (5)

Taco Tuesday makes my week better. The food at Tattoed Mom is cheap and delicious. You could make most of this bar food in less than 30 min in your own kitchen, but the fact that someone else made it, makes it so appealing. The Spanish fries are great. The food is super cheap, making it a great place to go in the summer after work. There are great specials each weeknight. You don't spend much money, but you sit in AC with your roommates and enjoy yourself.

    (4)
  • Veronica Y.

I love Mom's. There's writing all over the walls, go karts to sit in, and a loud jukebox with punk. They have special food days of the week, Taco Tuesday being my favorite. It's best to go upstairs with a group of your friends and shoot some pool. Lately, though, it seems like a lot of unsual characters have been frequenting the place. I don't know what this is about, but I feel like there may be a rumble a brewin'.

    (4)
  • Wallspro S.

Cheap Pabst and the hooker on the wall is the only thing that makes this place worthwhile...expensive and dirty yuengling draughts, a clientele of played out punk rock guys and size-you-up-hipsters, shitty service and a we're so cool it hurts atmosphere make this place suck. this place has seen its day. ten years ago called, it wants it's bar back. fucking blaaaahh..and this is coming from a person who loves sugar moms...the toys and shtick are great, this south street locale just straight sucks.

    (1)
  • John P.

They got Yards on tap, good food, Kick ass Juke on both floors, and if I don't bump into friends here, I always meet really cool people here. It's also a really good place to showcase your skills on the pooltable. You might think from the name and the tattooed clientele it has a reputation for being a tough bar, for the most part its not, but some skinheads started a fight with these guys I was shooting pool with once. But there was a Bar Brawl at Standard Tap a month or so ago, So I guess stuff happens everywhere

    (4)
  • Sung W.

love this place for a chill drink. it's trying a little hard to be a dive bar when it isn't. the decor is eclectic. you can meet a lot of interesting people there. the bartenders hook you up.

  • Suge K.

This is one of my favorite bars in the world. And Lord knows I've been to more than my share. Great music, fun crowd, reasonably priced drinks, and the best bartenders in Philly. (Hi Foss!) Oh, and hot skater boys everywhere you turn. Damn, I miss this place!

  • Juliana S.

somewhere on the rough seas of south street, shipwrecked like the rest of us, in an underwater den in an underwater town, you'll find an odd assortment of castaways that make up mama's tats. (mama's tats may be sold to you as a dive, a pool hall, or a lounge for arts and crafts, but we know better.) a very pale stranger will approach you to talk about vampires (which is really fucking freaky....and yet good conversation); there's a whorehouse madam at the pooltable and a septuagenarian in his cups; a few lost souls watching clusters of clocks popping up, breathing in bubbles; mama's got a lotta tats. so drink up, forget home if you can, and never, ever, trust a sailor on dry land.

    (4)
  • Erin P.

unpretentious, artsy atmosphere, cheap beer, decent music. it's surprising, only because it's located on south street with all those other not-so-fantastic bars. (it's probably the only bar i will go to on south street.) i love the second floor back area with bumper cars for booths.

We came here months ago and I woke up this morning and realized it was a huge mistake to eat here and I was glad we never had tried to do so again. Yeah, yeah it's a dive bar, but we were hungry. Anyway, we had the veggie corn dog, fries, and the veggie cheesesteak. The latter was a crumbled up Garden Burger with a little white cheese. Dry as, well, the fries. The corn dog was simply overpriced. Additionally, the drinks weren't particularly exciting and the lights were really bright. We did get to sit on a couch, and maybe just had a bad experience. We haven't been back since...this has to do both with the place itself and its general location.

I didn't have any food, but the drinks were priced right. They definitely have the too cool for school punk rock thing going on. I enjoyed the little plastic toys they had at the bar and on the tables, good for entertaining one's self if you find yourself alone for awhile...

I've got two words for you... bedazzled turkey. I love hitting this place up every time I go to Philly, its truely the best place to go out for a night. Grab a tall boy of PBR and kick back in the downstairs or up. Last trip I had we ended up there on a Sunday night and they were making hand turkeys. I know, who the hell makes hand turkeys, well everyone at Tattooed Mom's was making turkeys. I was so proud to see mine hanging up behind the bar the next night when I stopped by. And all my Philly friends were making fun of it because it looked like Liberace with all the feathers and bedazzling. Okay guys, I get it, everyone outside of SF thinks the whole city is gay. Haha. We're not all gay, we're all just Fabulous! Eat that on your toast in the morning!

This bar isn't for everybody, but I love it. Why? 1) great drink specials (5-7p and 10-11p everyday) 2) small but impressive draught beer selection 3) no televisions 4) cozy bar downstairs, bat-shit crazy decor upstairs 5) solid snacky-type menu (try the grilled cheese) Everyone is just super chill and friendly here. Always a good vibe.

I have to give it up to this place if your looking for a punk rock rock bar it doesn't get much better then this. Cheep ass drinks (cheeper if you have a chip...ask your friends if you don't know) good bar food, not a whole lot of vegan options but the fries are pretty good. The 2 jukeboxes, one upstairs one down, have everything from Jawbreaker to Fear. Two pool tables. Great staff. All the writing on the wall you can shake a stick at. I went here A LOT so speaking from experience it's easy to get burned out on it but it's always chill durring the day and on tuesdays you can get 1 dollar pbrs and 1 dollar tacos, bean tacos if your veggie without cheese if your vegan. Only drawback...it's on south street.

    (4)
  • lee c.

this place tops my list of "touristy places on south street that aren't really worth the buzz." it has a lovely atmosphere for the punk crowd. but the crowd itself wasn't all too pleasant. all cheap drinks considered, i vote for a more backwater place with less pretentious punks, punk wannabes, and tourists.

We were looking for a place to have dinner before we headed to a Queensryche concert at the TLA. I found the Tattooed Mom in yelp, and the reviews were very good. They also turned out to be spot on. It is a **very** casual place with tables and sofas and chairs as places to dine. There are also small, cheap toys on each table that you can play with; we could not stop playing with a small spin top. There was a dad with his young daughter (8-ish?) and their their small dog dressed in a collared shirt lounging on a sofa. The dog ran around the restaurant like she owned it, but the owner was quick to say "let me know if she is bothering you." We have a dog, so this dog was no bother at all. The reviews I read said the honey sriracha wings were to die for. The reviews were correct. The sweetness of the honey and the spiciness of the sriracha were an awesome combo. I also read the chicken parm sandwiches were good. We were not disappointed. There was twice the amount of chicken in the sandwich than I expected, and they did not skimp on the cheese, either. Both are definitely items we would order again. (NOTE: The sandwiches do not come with any sides, but given the generosity of the portions we did not need any.) The reviews also said that people of all sorts are welcomed at theTattooed Mom. I am the preppy type, and my husband is the casual type (he was wearing a Queensryche t-shirt). Neither of us have tattoos, and I only have 1piercing per ear. The staff at theTattooed Mom have multiple tats and piercings, but we were made to feel very comfortable and at home in the restaurant. They were also very knowledgable about the beers on tap and about the food they served. The menu is limited, but the kitchen is open late (until 12:30 AM for those with the late night munchies). They serve what they serve well. We were there during Happy Hour, where drafts were 1/2 price. We opted for Arrogant Bastard, and we loved it. We had 2 each. Our total bill--before the tip--was $42 for one order of wings, 2 orders of chicken parm, and 4 beers. Will we be back? You bet!!!!!

FOUR STARS FOR HAVING A TOY ON THE TABLE THAT GAVE ME THE ABILITY TO BEAT UP ON MY DATE WITH! Nothing says "This is going well" like hitting someone in the face with a 'silly band'. * The only time I've eaten there, I was in a state of wild inebriation. I had a veggie burger; it was ok. My most recent visit had nothing to do with food and everything to do with getting silly in the company of an attractive stranger from the internet. For an incredibly reasonable price, my 'friend' and I had about 10 drinks each over a few hours. The delightful bartender kept putting more and more gin in my drink (bless your heart, you are a true humanitarian) so I was a fucking happy camper. My glass was never empty, it was easy to get a table, blah blah blah all around a good time. *I regret nothing.

This might be a place where you have to be drinking to like it. I was very disappointed with my food order. At first I thought the prices were fine, until I saw the portion size (way too small). Also, I ordered soda and it tasted like radiation.

The only reason I feel I can't give 5 stars is because I came here to do a photo shoot and didnt actually taste the food. All I had was 2 Heinekens. However, I'd readily go back. Tattooed Moms is easily one of the coolest places in Philadelphia with some of the coolest, down-to-mars people. The service was impeccable without being intrusive. The wait staff was very attentive, patient, and accomodating. At a time of day where they don't usually have the upstairs open, they went out of their way to open the upstairs just for us. We got some really amazing photographs up there. The bumper cars are the coolest effing things ever. And theres an elegance to the disarray that worked well for fashion photos. I call it Grungy-Chic. Is it weird that my favorite part is the upstairs bathroom???

Maybe the name should've been a giveaway but it wasn't. Maybe I went on an off night, I don't know. I just know the bar seemed tired. It felt like I was hanging out at my loud annoying aunts house.

Freakin' awesome bar. We need more bars like this in NYC, instead of all these pretentious lounges opening up. This place was a fabulous start to my weekend in Philly. We discovered that pints of PBR were a buck each until 11 PM which was a pleasant surprise. So we basically downed PBRs all night, and saved a ton of cash, some of which went into the unique jukebox.. I mean, there were songs on there you'd never see elsewhere. Sat on the couch right off the staircase, and once it hit 10 PM or so, the place got packed and our space was infringed upon.. but no worries. This place has character and I would come back here in a heartbeat.

My rating is probably closer to a 2.5, here's why: I'll start will the good: 1. It is completely different from any other pub/bar that I have been to before; it's a very creative place. The booths have little couches and pillows hidden in the wall and the tables have an assortment of toys and candy reminiscent of childhood, kinda cool. 2. The beer is half off during their happy hour times which are everyday at reasonable happy hour times ( I believe it's like 4-7 and 10-11, but dont quote me...) The staff is friendly enough. Here's what I didn't like: The beer was a bit warmish. I'm not sure if the kegs are not cooled well... they don't chill their glasses so that might be a factor. The food selection was pretty small, though they have a vegetarian menu if your into that. We sat down to eat about 650pm and we had a few minors with us. This wasn't a problem at first until 7pm rolled around and the waiter asked us all for ID's and we told him we had a few minors. He said that minors weren't allowed after 7pm. This is fine, but, it would be nice if they had something posted or he had let us know about this policy before we ordered. I asked him if we could just finish our food and leave and he seemed a bit stressed out by this concept, but he allowed it. That kind of killed the mood and we all felt like we had to rush.

Really great dive bar. I hadn't been there in a long time, but stopped in for a post dinner drink. What we were told was pumpkin beer turned out to be pumpkin cider which was disappointing, but two ciders for $6 is super cheap. The walls are covered with writing and art which is fun to look at while you drink. The bumper car seats are awesome.

I can see going here just to drink; the interior is fanciful-- lime green walls, octopus chandelier, and horror movie figurines on little sconces on the wall. Feels a little Fear and Loathing, in a good way. The food, however, was not good. I ordered the vegan burger and it was mushy. It was a cheap frozen patty, not even grocery store Morningstar brand quality. Carnivore in the group had similar complaints about his beef burger. Ambiance is cool, though, and beer selection was eclectic. Eat before you go and you'll be fine.

Does your MOM have a "Tramp Stamp"? Drink your pain away at Tattooed Mom's! ;-) I recently found out about Tattooed Mom from Yelp Elite Member Caroline. She really did save my Friday night on Halloween Weekend! I wanted something out of the box, different, laid back and just a great freakin time with other artistic or creative folks who decided to actually put together a "Kick A" costume. I can only take soo many Halloween Stripper Costumes and Store Bought Garbage! The Indy Hall & Geekadelphia hosted a Halloween party that night. Now just the NAME of those groups caught my attention and I knew I was in for a good time. The vibe was great, the bartenders and staff were friendly, music matched the decor and it was not your typical Philadelphia Bar. It's nice to think out the box.... and I'm glad Tattooed Mom's helped me get my fix on Halloween Weekend!

Okayyyy I was misinformed the carnival rides upstairs are not actual operating rides but are unfun stationary bumper cars. Regardless it is pretty cool that the place is covered in graffiti and blaring with bad punk music. This counterculture watering hole doesn't suck.

What can be better than to have a pint while playing w/ lil' plastic toys that came from those bubble cup dispensers? This family tied "rebel rebel yell" dive flavor is what not only makes South St. "SOUTH STREET!" but it's a well known establishment to most of the Philly residents etc. You won't find a group of servers more scurvy and unique, much like the illustrations of oddities that deck the exterior of this hodgepodge collage paradise. (That goes for the patrons too) Many walks of life take shape here daily and it's good to have a mix up from the norm. Even if you just stumble in alone your bound not to be bored and can write down some "Bohemian Dreams" of sorts in your poetry journal. Heck, ya might make a friend who'll ask, "So whatcha writing? I'm an artist too!" Aren't we all Hemingway? Skip that guy, you can do better. The one over there... He has that "Hunter S. Thompson" sophisticato mystique that you need in your bed tonight lady. Errr... I mean to write poetry of course, of course. *RECORD SCRATCH* Oh, oh... Ya he's wearing a pink fedora hat. Ya... sorry. A.D.D. BUTTON! Tuesday tacos is the best! Try a medley of all their different beefs and yes there's veggie too Vegan Girl... Vegan Girl: What? I wasn't talking to you. So anyway... A.D.D. BUTTON! Look at that freaky sculpture out the window! A.D.D. BUTTON!! Omg! Is that Voltron on that mantle? A.D.D. BUTTON!!! Leap frog go! Bartender: Excuse me dude you gotta go! Me: Excuse me? Bartender: You're totally freaking everyone out. Oh and stop pressing the A.D.D. button, I think you broke it. Me: Oh. Vegan Girl: Lame. Me: Go twitter your girlfriend! Vegan Girl: I already did and like how did you know I'm a lesbian? OMG! Is that an A.D.D. button? ALL: NOOOOOOO!!!!! ((((((EXPLOSION)))))) Where am I? Is this heaven? Voice: No. Hell? Voice: No. Walmart? Voice: Oh hell no! Where *gulp* am I than? Voice: Jersey. Oh that makes so much sense! Of course! How stupid of me? Right? Right? Goodnight folks.

I finally got to check this place out and I loved it here. It is a great place to hang out and drink. They play awesome music and have bumper cars in the back. There was even a band playing in the bumper car when I got there. It's a really fun but laid back atmosphere none of the posh trendy stuff you get in other bars in the city. It's a dive bar but definitely the best dive bar I've ever been too. They have drink specials every night that are really good so be sure to ask what the special is. They also carry ROOT and the bartender made a fantastic drink with it for me. I like when bartenders know how to make drinks other than vodka tonics so it was quite refreshing to be in a dive bar and get an amazing drink.

We had a girl serve us last night she had long brown wavy hair and glasses, she was HORRIBLE. She didnt bring us our money back, one of us had to go up and ask her for it (it was 40$ on a ~26 bill) and because it was my friends birthday, i asked her politely if they did a free birthday shot for the birthday girl. She said no, but later when we were about to leave she came with a lemon drop and more than a few words saying "Never ever ask about birthday shots. If we offer it fine, but otherwise, never do that. I brought you this because I wanted to." She was snotty, and i dont know why she has the audacity to tell her customers what to do. We all work in bars, and literally all bars we have been to give free birthday shots. And if they dont, theyre polite about it and arent mean to their customers.

As my favourite bar in Philadelphia, Mom's hardly ever disappoints me. I enjoy the bar and waitstaff, engaging them in converstaion while I enjoy my cheap drinks. Alcohol is just as affordable as the beer, and the bartenders are not stingy. Word of advice for new patrons....don't act like a fool and you won't have problems. The security will eject you if you're drunk and being "that guy".

Weird vibe. The indoor decor is vaguely Victorian, the walls are sea foam green and there are little toys and candy everywhere. We went around noon for beers (don't judge me) and it was pretty quiet. BUT they have a lot of punk on the jukebox, which makes me an automatic fan. Beer selection is decent, service is a bit ambivalent but hardly a dealbreaker. I'd go back, but maybe at night instead.

Great atmosphere, awesome staff. free candy and toys, and even free craft days. Rad jukebox(s) Pool tables, bumper car seating, and the place is covered with graffiti upstairs/ local artist's work. I used to go here more when I worked on South St. and occasionally pop in, and it's still amazing. They don't have TV's too which is a giant bonus in my book. Love Moms.

Ive been a long-time fan of Tattooed Mom's (and I am not a punkster = hipster + punk.) The atmosphere/decor gives off an "I don't give a fuck" attitude and looks like the lovechild vomit of 2 teenage punksters (see end of first sentence for definition of "punkster".) Beer list is adequate (could be better but hey- I dont drink PBR), billiards upstairs, best tatter tots on South St & a great place to meet friends.

This place is amazing!! Came here with a potential date and we had a good time. My vegan burger was to die for and my drink was soo good and soo strong. Just the way I like it. Our bartender was cool and very nice. The music was great too and I love that they have a jukebox with a lot of my favorite tunes

now this is how it is.. I went here one night after drinking absinthe and being all CC east grown upish.. I mean this place is like punk heaven,.. now I didn't get to play any of the games I hear they have.. which would probably make me want to give them another star.. I also never got my drink because the lady?? server whatever person who thought it was a good idea to wear sunglasses and a wig and a hat like she was trying to be incognito or something at night while working forgot to bring it.. then had the audacity to ask me for money for a drink I NEVER received as I was leaving.. pshhh PLEASE.. the atmosphere is one I could dig if that certain mood strikes.. I mean.. I'm not a fan of south street night life but ya know.. I met up with some friends .. their idea.. NOT mine.. honestly.. for a person who isn't into hipster cheap PBR's.. and doesn't mind the lack of respect the servers have for customers its ok.. they got 3 stars ONLY because they have a great interior with tons of neat-o shit that you just wouldn't expect.. and there are lollipops on the tables.. like the dumdums.. anyplace that can satisfy my intense candy cravings.. for free.. I can put up with.. at least that is until I Can't find anymore blue dumdums.. then I'm out of there

C'mon, how can you not love this place for what it is? I go there because I expect to have fun with the people who go there and work there. I go for the drinks and eats. I've never been disappointed for the three years that I've been going there. I am a down-to-earth, unassuming, middle-aged dude who still feels like I learn something new every time I go to mom's. The people who hang out there are some of the most diverse and interesting mix you'll ever want to meet. It's PHILLY!!

This place is so comfy to just hang out. There is plenty to look at, and the atmosphere just signals GOOD TIME as soon as you get there. It is not a place to come to process your relationship. It's cheap. Points for that. I do wish it weren't on South Street, but the crowds tend to leave it alone, so it works. OH! And there's Naked Photo Hunt upstairs. BONUS star for that.

My review may be a little strange because I am not commenting on the bar being that I do not drink and went there simply to eat... this may have been the problem now that I think about it. Tattooed Mom has a few vegetarian options which is why I wanted to try it. The waiter seemed pissed that we did not order drinks, just sodas and he could barely hear us. He literally had to shout in our faces and put his ear up to our mouths to hear us order. When he brought our sodas, they tasted like booze. We complained and he attempted to fix our drinks. On the way back to the bar, we saw him sip at one of our drinks. He brought us new ones, same problem. I guess alcohol hits the glasses much more frequently then soda or water. We gave up there. The food was not half bad for bar food. The place is great for people watching! Bahaha. Maybe I'll come back, but most likely I'll skip out.

Furnishings: cute. Table toys: cuter. Service: great! Vegan burger: glue! Bite down and a crisp shell gives way to a sudden gloppy load in your mouth. I'll leave the rest of the imagining up to you. Why people love this burger -- nay, call it their FAVORITE veggie burger in Philly, is a giant mystery to me. (Note: the "vegan burger" as listed on the menu and "veggie burger" that others mention are one and the same.) Granted the vast majority of restaurant veggie burgers are made from box mix, so perhaps anything that's not an obvious mix nets an instant A+ rating. I respectfully disagree. To be fair, the bun, plus tomato and onion I had added were all very fresh and perfectly good. Coke: fed from the bar lines. Not gross tasting like Royal Tavern's perpetually funky soda lines. Just kinda 'eh and diluted, without discernible Coke flavor. Spanish fries: that's a big Don't, 10-4. Unless you like your old bay seasoning by the tablespoonful. In which case, have at 'em. So I liked the place well enough, and really the service was my-t-fine. But the food -- or at least the thing I choose -- was grody. I thought I was ordering smart as people specially call out the veggie burger as something worth opening your mouth for. Maybe I need to peck around the menu a bit more.

Not even a flash mob can stop these people from serving me a late night cheeseburger. Even though I nearly got tear-gased on South Street, I ate my bacon cheeseburger in bliss and then fell asleep into a dollop of ketchup. Yay, I'm a fan.

A fine place to go and beer. I have had many lovely times here, and met some awesome people. But whatever you do, don't order the food. It is extremely overpriced. I just got a "greek salad", which cost 8.50. For 8.50, I expect gastropub quality food. I wanted some stuffed spinach leaves at least. But all I got was a tiny plastic bowl with spinach, olives, tomatoes, and a few lonesome bits of feta. Barely greek. Definitely a small portion for the price. Go to drink and have fun, not to eat.

While in Old City, I was a fan of and frequented Sugar Moms and now I live pretty close to Tattooed Mom - but I've never stopped in the later until recently. I popped in with a friend for happy hour one night and was a little shocked by the bright lighting of the place - especially considering mint green walls and flashy decor - which I think does a bit better with subtle lighting. The bartender did lower the lights about an hour later - but I think I'm still seeing in shades of green. Decent happy hour specials and enough space to pile in with a crew of people. Same random kitsch as Sugar Moms - but, like I said, a bit more flashy. You just kinda have to be in the mood...

Dear Tattooed Mom, Could I please take you back with me to Chicago? You are kitschy enough to make me want to wear a granny sweater but still hip enough to stay out late. Yet it's just enough kitsch that was still companion approved. The bartenders were on their game and served up some tasty drinks. Saw a lot of laid back looking locals, nobody acted pretentious. Too bad we were too stuffed from homegrown and it wasn't wednesday, because the .25 cent pierogi deal sounded amazing. If grandma style isn't your thing the perhaps the rock and roll upstairs will suit your needs. The free dum-dums at every table sealed the deal.

We came here on a not so busy night for drinks a few weeks ago. While my drink was pretty weak, the atmosphere of the place was really cool. Our table had little gizmos to entertain yourself while you waited, the lounge couches were cool, and the exterior windows had ridiculous paper mâché monsters outside.

So we stopped by here after watching a friend's band play down the street and how awesome is this place?? Pros: Graffiti splashed walls, old carnival ride cars, and cereal box toys (tops and plastic pinball toys), I couldn't help but have a big smile on my face walking in here with so much to look at. I think it was a first for all of us at Tattooed Mom and the bartender was super friendly and actually gave us samples of most of the beers on tap. Cons: No clear sign of men/women bathrooms... but not a big deal ;) I definitely want to check out the food here next time!

Today I decided to go to Tmoms because it was an old haunt that had quality food and inexpensive drinks for the area. My boyfriend and I met two friends and shared a "vegan steak" and a small cheese fries. We also had 4 drinks total. The "vegan steak" was a freezer burnt garden burger in a stale roll. We added cheese, lettuce and tomato and we got a few springs of wilted greens and two slices of Roma tomato. It cost almost 12 dollars for something disgusting. Now to the drinks. I asked for a big gin and tonic. The bartender did not ask me if it was a talk or a double, just brought it out in their "trick" pint glasses that are not 16 oz. that was also mostly ice. I had two and my boyfriend had one and a local beer. Our bill came to 58 dollars for 5 sips of cocktail each and the worst "veggie steak" ever. Each drink was apparently $13! I basically bought them 2 whole bottles of gin for about 4 shots. I remember when Tmoms was awesome and I used to recommend it. Now I will tell people how much the food is unacceptable and the bartenders overcharge. I would have thought that the bartender might have told me that the crappy ice filled drinks he was making me were $13. I could have had a few nice martinis at a classy joint. Not a seeming dive bar filled with teenagers. That's another thing. Why was a group of 14 year olds eating in a bar? I never complain, but I left Tmoms hungry and not even feeling slightly happy from $45 worth of booze.

Ok, so I went to TM on 3/9/12 with 3 other friends. I was extremely upset with the service and food! One server (who seemed like she was strung out), stuffing posed as "veggie meat", and a dry throat because I wasn't offered anything to drink. I HATE this place and I will never go again!

I still love Mom, but her children are getting a bit grouchy with the service. I ended up at Tattooed Mom for my birthday last night because Sugar Mom's (where I usually go for my birthday) caught up with me on Twitter and let me know that they're closed Mondays. So we decided to go to her sister bar, figuring a pretty equal experience -- especially because whoever runs their Twitter is a sweetheart. They even messaged me today to say that they hoped I had a good time last night. When we walked through the door, my boyfriend and I grabbed a seat in one of the couch sections and looked at our menus while waiting for the rest of our party. After about 10 minutes we were finally acknowledged with a very tired and bored-sounding "can I help you?". We were starved, so we ordered some food and were answered with "Do you guys at LEAST want to order some drinks first?" .. Okay. So we ordered our drinks, and he brought those over and double-checked our food orders before putting them in. When my friend and her fiance arrived, we kind of went through the same thing. My friend asked what beer was on tap, and the guy waiting on us started naming things and then just wandered away in the middle of talking. She wasn't sure if she was supposed to follow him, or he was just going to check what else was on tap, or what. When he came back, he finished his list, ending with "... and some kind of.. German.. something." My drink was fantastic at first -- like my previous review said, I got more alcohol than mixer. But as the night went on, the alcohol in my drinks got less and less and less. The food was less good that I remembered, and I couldn't find a salt shaker anywhere. I still had a good time and enjoyed the atmosphere and the jukebox, but I really could have done with better service. They've never treated me like that at Sugar Mom's, and I'm a bit disappointed. Guess I'll be sticking with the sweeter Mom next time.

I miss spending Friday or Saturday nights at the Mom as my friends and I used to call it. We were big fans of the $1 PBR special. I hear the price has gone up since. My friends and I even rang in 2010 at the Mom and particpated in corn decorating around Labor Day. The decore is fun. Make sure to bring a marker with you so you can leave your mark on the Mom. The people were great too. I met so many interesting characters that my life would not be complete without. Long live Tattooed Mom.

Awesome place for bar food and cheap beer. If you don't like hipsters or politically-conscious people or diversity in general- don't go here, because they don't like you either. Can get loud when sitting in the back. Also getting your food can take a LONG time if you're here late on a weeknight or a weekend especially.

The first floor of this place makes me feel like I am back in 8th grade. The jukebox has one of those Fat Wreck Chords comps I got for like 3 bucks when I was 13. The couches remind me of hanging out at my friends' houses and listening to that cd while their parents weren't home and the decor reminds me of things that adorned their walls when I was over there. Then again, I didn't drink when I was in 8th grade. The second floor must be ancient. The hieroglyphics our research party discovered indicated that the people that inhabited this land placed great emphasis on the phallus.

Sometimes the Yelp Rating really sums it up in a way that my brilliant, eloquent mind can't even match: "Meh. I've experienced better." I really have. I got a veggie burger, which was tasty enough...but my boyfriend's brother got a pizza, and I swear the pizza dough was exactly the same as my burger bun. Fluffy. Bland. Kind of weird. Tots are nice and all (what hipster doesn't love seeing them on the menu?) but a little expensive for what they really are. And speaking of hipsters, and one point our server stood up on a chair to...well, I don't really know what he was going for with that. I assume it's the latest new dance craze that you probably haven't heard about yet. We didn't come here to drink, so maybe that's where we went wrong. Oh well.

Well, I finally cracked and went to Tattooed Mom, after passing by it every time I found myself on South St. for about 5 years. I must say, I wasn't all that impressed. Coming from someone who lives in New York City, I found this place to be quiet ordinary. And I also must add that I was disappointed with their guacamole and waffle fries. I am not a fan of waffle fries from the beginning, and it wasn't even mentioned that they were going to be waffle fries when I ordered. The kind of tasted like underfried potatoes. Service was friendly enough, but for some reason, although the place wasn't even anywhere near to being packed, was very very slow. I must say, I am a tad bit disappointed. What a fucking bummer, and you'd think you can't go wrong with a place called Tattooed Mom =/

never been downstairs, but the upstairs is great. seating can be a bit hard to find, but they have good booze selection & your basic beers, with a few surprises. the decor is definitely eye-catching (velvet elvis paintings, anybody?), original wall color indeterminable due to multitude of graffiti/stickers, bumper cars in back room that aren't exactly comfortable, but a nice touch, and couches that remind you of the no-kids-allowed-living room at grandmom's? win. pool tables in front, juke box with mainly punk//metal (think refused, not slayer)/rock, wide variety of patrons- straight edge, punk, tattooed, prep... along with other basic bar eats (fries, nachos, wings), are sandwiches, a vegetarian and vegan menu that's surprisingly extensive for a bar. plus? they have pierogies. BUT the food is more pricey than i'd expect. count on $10+ per dish (including tax & tip)- whiz fries alone are $8. but they do have baskets of free dum dum lollipops, and those little plastic frogs (you know, if you press their tails and they jump) litter the bar for customers' amusement. bathrooms are totally iffy. i don't believe i've ever been there when they've had both toilet paper and hand towels, and often neither. and the doors don't really shut. and they're kind of disgusting. food costs+bathrooms only reason this isn't a 5 star- but again, i've only ever been to the upstairs bar, so I have no idea if the first level is different.

If you dress in all black, hate your parents, have a few piercings and tattoos, and enjoy riding your fixie on the sidewalk, you probably love this place. I have no problem with the bar itself. The place has a unique graffiti inspired decorating scheme. The beer selection is not very good, but better than a lot of places. Most people are drinking canned PBR anyway, which tastes like crap, but its better than Bud, I guess. The clientele is pretty interesting. I would quite call them hipsters, maybe wanna-be again hipsters of a various demographics. You also have some city kids and tourists mixed in to the pot.

Dive bar. Punk rock. PBR pounders. I've never sat downstairs. I prefer sitting at the bar upstairs rather than going into that back room by the can. It definitely gets jammed up there when things are in full swing. Their jukebox rules. The bartenders were alright, I think.... I'm usually bombed when I get there, because I've already spent four hours drinking elsewhere. I found myself spinning tops at the bar once, and playing with those little plastic frogs you press down on and make jump. Good times. Okay crowd. Interesting stuff on the walls. Couches upstairs. It's a good spot for mixing up the night a little. A must for your dive bar circuit.

Going to T-Moms is like walking downstairs into my basement and asking for a beer. I mean this in a totally good way! It feels like I'm drinking at home with a bunch of friends. Every time I go there, I meet someone new and end up befriending them. I have spent many nights (and now that I think about it, days) there and I plan on many more. They have some fun crafts and toys to play with at the tables. Great juke box selection as well. You can see the newbies who walk in. Some who love it and others who obviously have a 'what the fuck did I just walk into' look on their faces. (Just because we have tattoos and piercings doesn't mean we are going to tie you up and kill you, so just relax. We'll just laugh at you a few times and then maybe buy you a beer if you're cool about it.) The owner is SUPER sweet and was helpful & willing to make my husband's 30th birthday be pretty rad. And if you're hungry, the veggie burger is pretty damn tasty, and the tater tots are a must. Pierogies are also a good choice. Enjoy a good beer with some possible new friends in a totally laid back atmosphere. Love it.

Loved it. The awesome decor (specifically, the big gold vinyl chair sitting by the window) was the first thing that caught my eye and drew me inside. It's fun, vintage, and just sets the chill vibe. The crowd is cool and the bartenders/servers are friendly. I thoroughly enjoyed munchin' on a delicious Falafel Wrap ($9) while listening to Black Flag, I must say. My dining mate got a Chicken Quesadilla ($6) which also looked quite scrumptious. Considering that I'll be living less than five blocks from Tattooed Mom this summer, I'm predicting that they'll be seeing quite a bit of Taylor L. in the next few months. Especially between 7-11 Friday, Saturday, and Sunday for the $1 PBR. w00t w00t.

I have lived out many of my most Bukowski-esque moments at this place: Downing 12 pierogies and 15 shitty beers, getting into major confrontations over blurry games of pool, getting hit on by weird dominatrix-looking German chicks, etc. Love it.

I'm a sucker for a bar with a great interior and this is just it. Downstairs, you can hide out under the stairs, in a little nook just made for drinking, upstairs, a cross between your mom's basement and a pool hall complete with jukebox and a bumper car. Back room of the second floor is a semi private place, perfect for late night drunken make outs. Love it. All of it. Nice roomy bathroom too.

Wow, what a great dive bar! We came here for a friend's bday party, and I really like the unique atmosphere of the bar-graffiti on the walls, punk rock on the juke box and $1 PBRs. Unlike other bars, I could actually talk to my friends without having to yell or be really loud, It definitely seems like a fun place to hang out and play pool and drink $1 PBRs.

Management! Please read this and get this girl a hand on thursday nights or someone else. honestly- we want to go back- the service needs improvement. Poor service all around. The server spent all night like a deer in headlights with every table. Food- over priced, mediocre and slow.I have been here several times in the last few years with my husband and friends. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Last night we went in for their pirogi night with about 8 people at 6:30 (30 left of happy hour.) We sat on the first floor and had a tall, thin woman in her 20s with long black hair as our waitress. My husband and i were first to arrive and our friends trickled in over the next 40 minutes. When we were first greeted (and it was just the two of us) my husband asked what was on draft and the server rattled off the list, but wasn't able to answer questions about the beers. I ordered a pitcher of water a few glasses and some limes- i wasn't drinking and i knew a few of our friends would also appreciate having water on the table- she looked at me like i was crazy. when it arrived it had a handful of limes in it ( so am i supposed to put my hand in the pitcher to get one?- gross) and one plastic cup. we had to ask for cups 2 more times. We tried to order food but she cut us off, saying that she would take our order when everyone arrived so no one would "feel bad' that they were eating last. HUH? Stunned, she walked away before we could reply. As more guests arrived they had to either go to the bar or flag her down to order drinks- two others were hushed when they tried to order food. Finally, I was able to tell her we wanted to order food regardless. At this point she brought us paper order forms and one pen for us to write down what we wanted. OK- I understand that when you have a special night it is helpful for the kitchen to have chits to clearly mark who ordered what specially including our names, but if you have us do this part of your job at least know who got what! It is so annoying to have food auctioned off at the end of the table when the server doesn't know what she is holding. Please don't touch or put your face in my food in front of me to see what you are serving. It is worthwhile to note at this point it took over 40 minutes for our perogies to hit the table while their was only one other table ahead of us that had ordered food. Two of us also ordered a salad and wings. Also, the salad was ordered as a first course and came out after the hot food. The wing were a hit on taste but were over priced at $9 for tiny guys. The house salad was served on a smallish plastic plate (why?) with huge chunks of onion, tasteless pink tomato and dried up sliced mushrooms. Rip Off - $6.50. The perogies? decent for the price. After the table was cleared was the first time our server asked if we needed anything. she continued to ask every five minutes as one by one we finished drinks and were waiting for others to as well. It was as if she was rushing us now that we were winding down and finishing our drinks. When i asked for a refill on the pitcher of water she returned with it just half full. After we ate- and guess what no one cried from eating while others weren't- a few of our friends had to leave and asked for their part of the bill bc the rest of us were going to continue to drink. The waitress told them she wouldn't give them a check and to just figure out what they owed- but then left before they could ask any of the drink prices. They left us cash- to settle up later. When it was time for the check we were handed an illegible hand written two sided stapled together chit with our prices for any of the drinks- just a total. when we inquired after the drink prices so we could split our checks - the waitress pointed to one column with slash marks where she tallied the drinks ordered and very rudely told us to look at the drink column- and again walked away before we could point out our question was about the price of the drinks - not how many- also there was no distinction between the drinks during happy hour and those not. I wuold like to state that we and our friends are not cheap people when it comes to half way decent service- we frequent other bars in the city for nights like taco night and believe it tipping on the menu price of food not the special and we normally tip in the 25-30% range. This was- bar none- the worst tip we have ever left for the worst service.

This is not the type of place you would typically think of me hanging out...graffitied walls and punk kids...but I love it here. After an amazing dinner (once again) at Gnocchi we decided to stop in for a few drinks. I was hoping to score a table downstairs and play a few games, but it was Saturday night and the place was packed. We went upstairs, where the germaphobe in me really wanted some sanitizer. It is dirty and feels kinda like a crack den...but you can get $1 PBR!! We ended up staying for much more than a few beers and had a great time. Every time I've been here it has just been a great, laid back time. Try to get a table downstairs and grab the scrabble!

  • Reggie G.

The drinks are cheap, so are the pierogies. Get anything other than a PBR and you might look horrifically out of place. It's very comfy and homey, as comfy and homey as a graffiti-lined place can get, and I don't mind coming here. But I've been here for several Taco Tuesdays, all of which turned into Upset Stomach Wednesdays. Yet somehow, I still blame the PBR.

I LOVE THIS BAR! it has everything a gal could want. good food, plenty of penny candy, and yeah..booze! the best time to go is Sundays for several reasons: 1) its better than church 2) Missy the day shift bartender is AWESOME 3) there is a craft and coloring table to make silly things while you are getting crocked and often there are many 'seasonal' activities hosted there (mothers day card making, potato-head decorating) 4) the iPod/jukebox is legendary 5) cause its tattooed mom's - chances are you will run into your friends and will always end up making new ones! There is So MUCH i can say about this place but i think its been said already - but here are my highlights: *The Nachos are orgasmically good * you MUST get a Mom's chip and KEEP it with you, you never know when you will end up there so its best to be prepared * if you already didnt know, Tat-Mom's is HQ for the easter annual Zombie Pub Crawl *follow them on Twitter - @Tmoms *the downstairs has a quirky chill vibe, perfect for a date on off-peak (non-happy hour) times, the upstairs is like philly's answer to CBGB's - perfect dive 'decor' and bumper cars as booths *the staff is friendly and personable - unless you act like a dick. i take my not-from-around-here friends there as a Must-See-And-Drink-Here, no exceptions

I feel about this place the same I feel about a lot of these bars. Not great, but not terrible. My sister was in visiting from New England and she said she wanted to go to a bar that was unique and interesting. So of course my first thought was Moms. Because it is. With all the Graf (really really bad graf) on the walls, and old bumper cars, it's an interesting place. It was fun bringing her there, getting a couple beers and letting her get some pictures of her and her friend in the bumper cars. But after the first couple beers she basically had the same reaction to the place that I have always had.."Well that was fun, lets go somewhere else now." Don't get me wrong, I have been to Tattooed Mom a hundred times. I have a lot of friends that really enjoy the place. I have been there for craft night (it's actually a lot of fun) and the food isn't terrible if you are in a pinch. Though if I had my choice of places to drink, this wouldn't be it; Place to eat, not it; Place to hang out, not it. In Short...GO. Have a good time. Write on the walls. Play some pool on the lopsided tables. Hang out with your punk (or whatever they like to be called) friends. Drink some Lions Head (Yeah Wilkes-Barre). And when you get hungry from all the ridiculous conversations about which band had a profound influence on whatever decades rock and roll blah blah blah...grab some food. BUT don't make it out to be an awesome place. It's a dive bar, and on the lower scale of dive bars at that and not in a good way. I like scum, Mom's is just "eh".

Bartenders are great! but the door guy is the BIGGEST idiot. At 26 years old with 40 forms of backup and your Facebook up cant get into the bar because he has a FEELING the I.d. Is fake. Made her pull her wig up to show why the color was different and everything. EMBARESSING. Never met someone more stupid.

Tried this place real quick before leaving Philly. Can't complain about the drinks/beer. Didn't try any of the food since it was literally a pitstop before leaving. Atmosphere and crowd was definately my kinda place. Also loved the Jukebox. Will go back and hangout longer so that I can give a more detailed review. Should be noted I went early in the day, I'm sure the nights are where its at.

Went back on my recent trip to Philly, and my second visit only confirmed that this bar is AMAZING. $2.50 Stella on draft during happy hour... 'nuff said. :D

I give it points for a VERY veggie friendly menu. Beer list was very good too. We went in when NO ONE else was there for lunch. The bar tender was a cliched hipster chick who was rather unpleasant and not the least bit helpful ( I don't need a new BFF but you don't need to act like you're too cool to offer me even semi-civilized service. I'm sorry my presence annoys you, maybe you shouldn't be in the service industry?) Given the awesome vegetarian menu we'll probably try it again sometime but if the service is typically like that forget it. Descent people be ware.

It's Friday night (or Wednesday, or Thursday or whatever), you've got nothing to do, and you want to pound down cheap beer and listen to The Smiths? Then you're probably already heading toward Tattooed Mom. Tattooed Mom succeeds because it lacks any ounce of pretension. It knows that the clientele consists mainly of cheap hipsters, so they make their cheap food as good as they can. The vegan burger is top notch and the pierogies are mandatory. As for beer? This ain't Monk's... you'll be drinking PBR, and lots of it. Why? Because it's a dollar, that's why. The decor is fun and the seating is comfortable (and flexible to bigger crowds). The only drawback can be the service, which is iffy no matter when you go. (There's a certain waitress who I dread getting when I go. I don't know her name, but you'll know her from her big sunglasses, sassy attitude, and that she'll forget you exist). Broke? Doesn't matter! Have a PBR and a dum-dum lollipop! Then play with the plastic frogs. You'll feel better, I swear.

I wasn't sure what to expect when I first walked in. But this place was definitely cool and fun. The atmosphere was neat. First floor was mellow, clean and unique. I loved the antique chairs/sofa, the green walls and funky pictures, clocks, old toys, etc. The price was perfect - especially since I am in college and broke. The cheapest beer was 2.50 - pabst which is perfect and I could live wit that. And 3 dollars for Lionshead (especially compared to philly drink prices). Doable. Our waitress was slightly scary. She made me really nervous because she wore a sunglasses ... inside... and it was near 9pm. So, I couldn't tell if she was making eye contacts and ready to listen. It was just odd. We went upstairs and the atmosphere was so much fun. The walls are covered with sharpie marks, posters, band flyers, and etc. It was cool and very laid back. I had fun looking at all of the writings. There was a pool table and bumper cars seats. It was neat. I'd definitely go back!

This place is pretty great. It's a very relaxed atmosphere which is great for hanging out. They have pretty cheap drinks, especially PBR. I thoroughly enjoy cheap drinks. I haven't really checked, but I don't get the feeling they have a lot of beers to choose from. Beer (other than PBR) doesn't seem to be what most people come here for though. The bar tenders and waiters are friendly, sometimes surly and quick. The food isn't the best, but it's not bad either. They have a lot of veggie and vegan options and different food specials everyday (I think). You will find bowls of candy on the tables, usually dum-dums and chocolate at the bar. cheap booze + cheap food + free candy = WIN The decor is eclectic and fun, just like their patrons. It's a decent size as well. I'm told there is an upstairs with smoking, but have never ventured up there. Give this place a go, it's fun!

Probably one of the best places around. Great hang-out for cheap drinks and cheap/good eats. My favorite? $1 PBR pounders 7-11pm on weekends, Taco Tuesdays and Pierogie Wednesdays. Pool table and juke box upstairs. More comfortable and more available seating downstairs (if you show up early enough). See also: Sugar Mom's

Yeah, I guess I can give Mom's five majical stars. It's got what I'm looking for in a bar. Things like: tatted up drunk dudes that I want to bang, fatteningly delicious food, drink specials, sushi-grade jukebox(es), smoking area, filthy rockandroll graffiti, surly cocktail waitress. They also have some things that I didn't necessarily want, but make other people like it a real lot. Things like: roller coaster cars, carpeted non-sketchy area, pool tables, and toy figures. An area of contention is a thing that, as far as I know, they DON'T have....ROCK AND ROLL DANCE PARTIES! ROCK AND ROLL DANCE PARTIES! Come on, the smoking room is perrrrfect for that shit! Just think of the possibilities for iniquity!

$3 burgers (meat or vegan) on Wednesdays til 10pm and $2.50 PBR pounders all the time makes me a happy camper. The meat burger I had was delicious and juicy. The beer was cold and tasty. The service is just as it should be in this kind of place. High fives all around.

Well, I feel like a real lush for having back-to-back reviews in which my drunkenness played the starring role, but, as my mother would say, them's the breaks. Sue G., Hunter (my boyfriend), and I stumbled (literally, at least in my case) in here after the incredibly awesome UYE at ZoT last night (thanks to Bill for organizing!). Unfortunately, however, ZoT managed to run me pretty dry, so I was happy to find a cheap dive that was close by. Though I usually turn my nose up at shitty beer, I was too drunk at this point to care. The PBR went down like water. I enjoyed their decorations. It reminded me of an old ice cream parlor, just with booze instead of ice cream. The people there were... interesting, to say the least. They made us laugh, and not much beats laughing at people when you're drunk. I don't remember seeing many games, but there was a big bowl of Dum-Dum lollipops in front of us, which brought on a welcome wave of nostalgia. Extra star for the mouse-friend that scuttled across the floor, which drove Sue to push her beer as far away from her as possible and yell at the bartender. Good times.

I've been coming here since 2005 and I love every visit! The bartenders are hilarious and always engage us in entertaining conversation -- especially Joe, who even gave us one of his art prints (that hangs in our living room!) Tattooed Mom's is tiny, cozy, dim, and is full of every type of person you can think of. The couches and games on the tables are a fun plus. The food isn't really my type of food, but decent for what it is and CHEAP! Drink selction is good, too. Joe has made me a blue drink that tastes just like a raspberry Dum-Dum and it's the best thing I've ever tasted! Mmmm. Their jukebox has SLADE in it, which is a big plus. Sometimes, I even feel slightly dirty while at Tattooed Mom and I mean that in the best way possible! There's no pretentiousness here at all and it's a great backdrop for a night out with friends.

You could picture sid vicous sitting in one of the bumper cars in with his nancy in the back room. I mean bumper cars. It attracts all walks of life and ages. It is a younger crowd but nobody really cares. If you like dive bars this is a good one. Say hi to Sparks.

Nested amongst the print shops and cheesesteak joints along South Street is this great little dive. The first thing I noticed was the decor, which is unlike any bar I've seen. First off, carpet?!? In a dive bar? Are those action figurines on the shelves? Are the walls seriously this disgusting sea green color? Are those G.I. Joes on the bar, with little jumping frogs and spider rings? Are those Buddah statues guarding the liquor? Is that a naked lady painting above the bar? Confusion soon turned to awe. I was handed a $1 PBR Tall Boy by the disgruntled and tattooed (who would've guessed?) bartender, and started up a conversation with a tattooed regular (see a theme here anybody?). A sports discussion came up and I jokingly brought up how the Penguins (my team) were playing in the Stanley Cup, and got the full wrath of two Philadelphia sports fans. Wouldn't recommend doing that. We reconciled over our multal love of Yeungling and the naked lady painting. The next day, I awoke with 2 G.I. Joes in my pocket. It made me smile.

I like mom's because it's chill, the beers are cheap, and like someone else mentioned, the upstairs gives you more of a house party vibe than a shitty bar on south street vibe. Which actually kind of annoys me because it'd be cheaper to drink at a house party, but since no one's having a house party worth attending at the moment, this'll do. I also like that I can get a beer by exchanging a few short (polite) words with any bartender, they're not assholes and I don't have to have my tits hanging out to avoid waiting 20 minutes. I prefer less crowded bars with cheap strong mixed drinks, but that's because I'm curmudgeony so I suck it up since I live nearby and multiple friends work on stupid South St. This is easily my favorite bar on South but that's not really a fair scale to put them on because when your competition is Mako's it ain't tough to be on top. Oh and the jukebox is pretty awesome and it's unusual to hear only crappy music. Since some other reviewers have made the tattooed/sugar moms comparision, I'll say that the biggest difference for me is that almost every time I go to Sugar Moms I spend most of the night saying "UGHHHHH who played this garbage????" while at tattooed moms your more likely to hear awesome old punk rock at best and at worst some so-so background music.

This bar's pretty okay. I love the decor - it's unlike any other bar I've visited in Philly. Taco Tuesdays are well worth the trip, especially if you get the couch in the corner. Conversation with present company becomes dry? Play with the toys purposefully left on your table. My only complaint was the bartender upstairs on my last visit. He seemed less than delighted to be doing his job. At one point I made one of my trips up to the bar to place an order, and while he was pouring a friend approached and asked me to order him the same. By the time he came back I politely apologized and said "I'm sorry can I have one more of the same?" He simply rolled his eyes and stomped away, came back with the beer and barked what my total. Go to Tattooed Mom for the deals, the atmosphere, and the toys. If you're looking for service then go to the Dive.

I enjoy coming here with friends for Taco Tuesdays, Burger Wednesdays and Pierogie Thursdays. Cheap, good food and even better if you can make it during happy hour. The service is usually good and enjoyable. If you stop in you have to get the tots. Mmm.

The ambience of this bar is fantastic: love the punk rock, the decor downstairs, and the cute carnival style upstairs. This is a can't miss spot for anyone who likes booze and punk (but I'd make sure not to order any food...).

I can't tell you why I like it here. Is probably the best description of how TM's makes me feel. I'm no hipster, I'm a pretty normal chick, and yet I find myself in TM's pretty often pounding $1 PBRs with the best of them and noshing on perogies and vegan burgers. If only I had an ironic outfit I could totally fit in. Regardless of how I feel about it here, it's a great place for groups, and it has a much more homey feel (downstairs) than most of the other bars in Philly. I've come here as a group of 2 or a group of 18 and had equally good experiences. My favorites- the pierogies the vegan burger with feta cheese whatevers on tap the strange and ever changing decor/art I never go upstairs, but if you're not digging the downstairs aesthetic it's nice you can go upstairs for something pretty different without changing bars.

The heart of this place is true to its punl rock grungy roots, but the food and beer do not make up for the stank or moldy/wet carpet and cigarette smoke that permeates the entire establishment. If it werent on south street, i dont know how this place survives. Also, PLEASE WASH YOUR PINT GLASSES! Sticky glasses are gross. happy hour drinks arent that cheap, but the food specials are, if reheated pierogis and el paso tacos are your thing

A pint of Guiness and Yard for a little over $4 (in total) during happy hour. Holy crap! Free lollipops! And they were playing rock! We went on a Saturday. We should have stayed there until the end of happy hour but decided to walk around South Street for a few hours. We came back for another pint and some food, and it was a different story. Hip hop and a surly waitress. The bartenders were awesome though. We ordered another Guiness another pint of Yards, tater tots with cheese whiz and a cheeseburger. Surly waitress plopped a basket of condiments in front of us huffily. The tater tots were good in a "this is totally going to make me regret eating this" type of way. Oily and salty. It'll probably make my ankles swell and my poop turn black. But it was $5- what?!?. crap i should have just bought another beer. The cheeseburger should have been $2, but it was $7. It was an abomination to all cheeseburgers. I felt really bad because we wanted to grab the check- but the waitress was busy shoveling chili or some sort of soupy jambalaya concoction into her surly mouth at the table across from us. So we waited until she finished slurping and asked for the check. Funny, it took her a long time to serve us but she couldn't wait to grab the bill (and the tip). Pluses: Awesome happy hour, Guiness was not bad, Basket o' condiments (they even had sriracha sauce!), cute tattooed bartenders, free lollipops, cool atmosphere Minus: Food overpriced and bad (though the soupy jambalaya chilli looking thing the surly waitress was shoveling in her mouth looked good though..), questionable table service, and our bill was $25.

I've been going to Mom's for over ten years, and it's generally a great place to hang out, have a beer, and get some good bar food. The burgers, tacos, nachos, and waffle fries are always very good, and they almost always have cider on tap. I avoid Mom's on the weekends, though, because the hipster quotient is way too high for my taste, and people are usually crammed in the place like sardines. Weeknights are the time to hit Mom's

tater tots, check. perogies with sriracha, check. great space with great happy hour and great bar staff, check. mom's is dive bary with a side of awesome. cheap plastic toys and a good draft selection. good drinks and if you really want it, PBR. arts and crafts... zombies... drink specials... do i really need to go on?

This is the best bar in Philly. The upstairs is the perfect dive while the downstairs is respectfully cute/cool. The jukebox has everything from Naughty by Nature to the Subhumans. The drink deals are great. The bar food is solid with vegan options. The two couches are comfortable and make you feel like you are drinking at a house party rather than on sometimes-douchey South Street, especially when you have your feet on the coffee table and the couple sitting next to you is making out.

I take everything I said back, (except the part about terror sucking. they still suck.) I had never been to the bar, and so a bad first experience on behalf of my significant other left me with a bad taste in my mouth, and the desire to never really go here. But! He took me here on pierogie night, and once again on cheap burger night and the food and the cheap beer made up for everything. Plus there was a lack of douchebags, so that ruled. And I love the little crappy toys and dum dums everywhere! Also their veggie burger was fantastic. I will come back to you, and I will come back to you often.

I generally avoid the South St area at all costs, but I have found myself at Tattooed Moms twice in recent weeks. Here's the deal- I wouldn't go out of my way to go here, but if I'm in the area and want to chill with a few friends and have a cheap beer, it's great. I have been to Sugar Mom's many times but I hate how crowded it can get on the weekends. The thing I like about Tattooed Moms is there seems to be less of an obnoxious crowd. Service is good and the bartenders are friendly. We walked in on Saturday night after a show at the TLA and there was enough room for our whole group to sit down upstairs. Nice laid back dive bar. The women's room leaves a little to be desired, but that's par for the course. Can't speak for the food.

Love this place. Super-friendly staff always up for a good story, and $3 drafts 5-7 and then 10-11. Can't beat the cbgb atmosphere and wacky patrons. Try the 'pink puss' cocktail for a sweet treat, or just get a tasty draft beer and play with the toys scattered about their two bars and upstairs pool tables. And don't forget about 50 cent pirogues or taco or burger night! Staff + specials = 5 stars!

Fact or Crap? The game Fact or Crap is awesome and needs to be played while enjoying inexpensive beer and standard bar food enhanced to awesomeness by the game Fact or Crap. Fact, although redundantly Tattooed Mom: frequent this bar when in the mood for an escape into childhood games, inexpensive beers, standard "fast food" bar food and a simple charming dive meets hipster atmosphere.

Mom's is the perfect example of how a South Street bar should be (or at least how they all used to be!). Downstairs is a warm and comfy lounge/bar area to converse, drink and eat with your friends or complete strangers. There is nary a bad vibe every in the building. The menu is tasty bar fare including cheese fries, chicken fingers and possibly south Philly's best pirogies. Upstairs is a different world altogether. Upstairs looks of the long, lost dream of Punk Rock. 2 pool tables surrounded by old couches and walls littered with graffiti welcome you as you come from the downstairs lounge. There's a jukebox on the wall that is sure to have even the most tightassed of music critics favorites listed. To your left are a few steps leading to the bar, which is always packed, but everyone is nice enough to let you through. The bartenders are also very aware of the area and will often yell over the crowd to get you a drink if you can't get to the bar. Drink pricing is standard Philly style. Imports seem to run upwards around $4-$6 while drafts and domestics are cheaper. There are always specials going on, mostly involving PBR's for a couple bucks. If you keep walking past the bar you come to the upstairs lounge. This is classic South Philly Punk style and reminds me why I love this city. A few ratty couches and low tables are interspersed with tilt-a-whirl and bumper-cars. Lets not forget the graffiti here either. Everyone from Elvis to Joey Ramone to Jesus is drawn or hanging somewhere on the walls. This room also has access to the upstairs bathrooms which people seem to have a hard time finding. So come down, bring your sharpie, your friends and a good time. Tattooed Mom's is one of the last bastions of what South Street used to be.

Its Tuesday night. "Oh Shit! Is it too late to get some tacos?!" Yesssss Taco Tuesdays are so good. You can find me pushing through the crust punks, tourists, and babies momma's that populate south street to grab some tacos and drink PBR. Tattooed Mom's is such a good bar in such an unfortunate location. Regardless this is a must see bar in Philadelphia. The owner, music, food, drinks, atmosphere, craft nights, and people make this one of Philadelphia's best bars.

Fun place; very welcoming to all kinds of people. Good bar food. I got the nachos with chicken and they could have fed 4 people. I like all the plastic stuff they have on the bar for you to mess around with as you have a few too many. And oh yess, the bumper cars.

Went yesterday afternoon for the Philly Sewing Collective Sublime Stitching event. Service was great. Only reason I'm not giving 5 stars is because my sandwich was burnt to a nice, rust color (fish sandwich). I could barely eat it. Met the owner for the first time, he was really nice and just wanted to make sure we were enjoying ourselves. So I had to come back and change my review because my experience last night was really pleasant! Horray for good reviews!

I found my sanctuary here. As soon as I walked in and saw the tagged-up walls and the half price draft beers, I was amped. I've been living in Philly for about four months now (but travel often for work), so its really taking some time to find some good spots. The bartenders were chill, and the underground hip hop they played upstairs was on point. No pretense and no bullshit. I'll definitely be back.

"Punk's not dead, punk's noooot dead" at Tattooed Moms. Great place to get pissed... I can't speak for the food, although I've had the veggie wings (pierogies) over at Sugarmom's and those are always good. I usually go upstairs when i'm there, just because I love all the punk nostalgia plastered all over the walls. It's a fun place to start or end your night... the beer is cheap enough, and it seems the bar food selection is decent. If you're into gritty bars, and appreciate the legacy of the punk scene, you must experience Tattooed Mom's.

This is the kind of place you can imagine the Sex Pistols hanging out at in the early 80s, it's a really unique spot (especially the second floor bar/lounge area). The first floor is a fairy typical bar and seating area, they've got a decent looking menu, some cheap beer specials, weekly specials and events, and baskets of carnival/dollar store type toys which is pretty funny and adds to the unique vibe to the place. The second floor is completely outrageous with it's graffiti and photo plastered walls, they've got a second bar upstairs, a pool table, and plenty of lounge type seating including a few bumper cars to sit around in. Tattooed Mom is a fun and unique spot and is worth checking out if only for a couple cheap beers and a game of pool.

Ass baskets, Taco Tuesday, lollipops and thrift store couches. Tattoo Mom's was my home away from home during the months after leaving my job at Whole Foods. Over the years, it has stood it's ground and continues to be one of my favorite bars in the city. It holds a special place in my heart and even though I stay away from South Street, it's hard to say no to an invitation to Mom's. After spending countless Sunday nights throwing back beers, coloring in books and making bead necklaces with Mom herself, I was offered a job at Old City's Sugar Mom's. While the Old City crowd is a different mix, both bars are unique and should be visited by both locals and tourists.

I have yet to have a bad experience here, minus the standard knowing what you want to eat to find out they are out of it (boo since this happened to me twice- IN A ROW!) and having your tastebuds scramble for what they are wanting again. The tots are always A+ and a must have, the vegan burger can't really be compared to any other in the city in my opinion- from the texture to the taste it's really delicious. They cater to all kinds of diets (vegetarians/vegans AND meat eaters) and they do it well on all sides. I have yet to experience the taco tuesdays, but i'm 100% in with the perogie wednesdays (50 cent perogies!). The beer selection is great, they always have PBR on special from cans (1.00-1.50 depending on the night/special) and draft. I love woodchuck, and woodchuck pear is what I always love to order. Now, the one downside (for me, not 80% of the people who come here) is the upstairs back room- it reminds me of bars back home in michigan from the smoking. I just hate smelling like old cigarettes and try to avoid it as much as possible but it's one of the reasons a lot of my friends like to come here so i'll never really complain.

Adorable....and yes they have too many beers on draft to even mention here..but if you like beer you are in luck. If you like cool places with funky furniture and nooks and crannies to pop into and hunker down with friends and your favorite beer then you are in luck. Great attitude. Clean. Fresh and Fun.

Oh, Mom, you have given the punks, hardcore kids and general surly bastards of this city two gifts. T-Mom's is one of them. Cheap drinks and beat up pool tables, $1 tacos and $6 pitchers of PBR. One can get both drunk and fed for very little in the way of cash. I also like the bumper cars plastered with stickers, the graffittied bathrooms and the little plastic frogs that I make leap into my empty pint glass. While this is the place for a younger me who had yet to discover Belgian beer, it still makes me feel at home. And their beer selection does offer choice beyond the cheap.

Cons: Creepy dolls behind glass that may haunt your dreams Rushed unfriendly service that will have you clutching your half-full beer as they breeze by. Pros: on Wednesdays... 2 dollar 16oz bud bottles Delicious 25 cent fried pierogies. 9 pierogies and a bud please. I'll take the nightmares to go.

i love this place. it's just a chill, laid-back, fun place. I don't know what it's like on the weekends, but on the weekdays, it's just been a great place to hang out - quiet enough to be able to converse with your friends and laid back enough that you can laugh so hard that you snort. bud and pbr are pretty cheap, but other beers aren't (a strongbow is $6!) i also love all the toys that they leave on the tables. maybe i'm easily amused, but i can spend all night spinning plastic tops or putting fortune fish in my friends' palms. pierogie nights are now 50 cents each (up from 25 cents). still delicious!
