Another Indonesian place in South Philly. Authentic, home-cooked food, like you're eating at someone's house. The flavors are great, and the food is pretty cheap. My main concern was that all the meats were a little tough. The chicken was a weird breast/wing cut, and the grilled variety was ridiculously tough and tendony with very little meat (also the bones were disconcertingly white - can chickens have bone marrow diseases?) - I guess they use free-range chickens or something, because these were not normal chickens. The stewed/curry chicken was better because the cooking softened it up a bit more. The beef rendang was also a little tough but overall it was pretty good and I've definitely had worse. The kale in curry sauce was good, as was a mixture of bamboo and other veggies. Sky cafe still reigns supreme, and I think Hardena has more options, but this place is still worth trying if you happen to be in the area and are not averse to intense mastication (and making a huge mess while gnawing at the meat).

We stopped in last night. It is a small place, neat and clean. The menu is small also however very tasty. I had the chicken, kale in a curry sauce. And I tried tempeh for the first time and I liked that too. My husband a shredded beef that very spicy and good. Cant' wait to become more familiar with Indonesian cuisine. The staff was helpful in guiding us and making selections.

The best Indonesian food in Philly! I live in new york, and every time i go to philly, i always go there, great price with the awesome food! The last time i go there is before the closing time, they close at 8:30pm and we got there round 7:45pm. And its not just me,by my self but we are about party of 10. So we order right away. And we done right about 8:45 and they never said anything to us(like most of the restaurant do, saying "we're going to close soon"). Nope they didn't say anythings(unless "thank you" of course) . I recommend it to all my friends in new york. So Whenever you're in south philly, this place is definitely the authentic Indonesian food.

Food - four stars Ambience - two stars Service - three stars Value for money - five stars Overall - four stars This is a hole in the wall place with yummy Indonesian food. I had the yellow rice with tempeh, fried tofu, been sprouts, and other vegetables. On top of that I tried both the green and red 'sambal', spicy sauce. If you are in need of an affordable fix of good Indonesian food, this is your place. There's not much ambience so not great for a date night. They also have a wide range of other typical Indonesian food, including fried chicken, fried fish, curries, and so on. I have lived in Indonesia for 15 years, and this is a typical tasty meal.

This place is definitely your authentic hole in the wall Indonesian food, despite one of the servers being a friendly Thai. The sauces are great, especially in their curries and hot sauces. I can't say that this is the best food I've had (meats were a but too dry), but the authenticity and home cooked feel is unbeatable. This restaurant seems to do well to serve the local population here. For some family style Indonesian food, you can't go wrong.

3.5 stars. It is a nasi padang restaurant. Pretty awesome finding one in the USA. 5 stars: the prices. One fish, one chicken breast, two plates of rice, a couple servings of kale cost us a whopping $12 (including tax). Yeah, I can handle that! 3 stars: the actual food. Honestly, out of all the Indonesian food I've had, I'd say this was in the bottom third. It wasn't that great. Maybe I just got the wrong thing, I don't know. My wife really liked her fish, and she's Indonesian, so I guess it's legit but my wife also likes pretty much every seafood dish ever made, so maybe take that with a grain of salt... Ambiance: 4-5 stars. There are only a few tables in here. Food is served on plastic plates, with plastic utensils. Indonesian TV playing all the time. Service: Friendly and nice, but if you don't have an Indonesian speaker with you, you might have some communication difficulties. Overall Seulanga is worth checking out just for the experience. The food isn't the best, but it's certainly cheap and not bad.

Was a bit skeptical when I 1st got here. Strange looking whole fried fish staring at me. Things in steam tables w/bones and skeletons sticking out. The woman was trying her best to help me, but there is a definite language barrier here. I decided to go vegetarian; as earlier reviews said meats were chewy. Tempeh, for protein, was a winner; rich & flavorful. Not oily. The braised greens (collards?) had a nice taste & texture & she put them in a baggie so they didn't spill into everything. So did the Japanese eggplant(she didn't know the name),which was sweet and cut into nice bias ovals and cooked al dente. Everything had a bit of heat and was served over excellent yellow rice topped w/fried shallots. The woman smiled when I asked for red sambal ( they also have green). It was amazing; easily the best sambal I've tasted. The heat was not overwhelming, and the flavor was intensely rich, savory, and a tad sweet.I also like that they put it in a side container; Platter cost me $6.50. Would like to add this to my Indonesian repertoire;wish I spoke the language.

Dirt cheap deliciousness. If I remember correctly, the other Indo place, Hardena, has more choices but Seulanga seems to rotate their options so perhaps I'm wrong there. In any case, I like it a lot. It's small and clean, simple eating. There are signs that spell out what to do so no need to feel intimidated or out of place. Order, Pay, Eat. While the there's a language barrier, the beauty of this set up is you just point and say "That one, yes. More please" To date, I've had the curry chicken, beef rendang, whole egg thing, the kale, spicy fish, and whole fried fish. I wish there was a sauce for the fried fish but I just resolved that by combining it with one of the other wonderful sauces. Remember OPE. Order, Pay, Eat.

At first, the neighborhood seemed a bit sketchy with young men hanging out at the corner. But, once inside, it was like I was in someone's home dining room, completely spotless, freshly painted avocado and papaya. With only two small tables for four, colored dark jade; it was cozy and intimate. I sat only 2 feet from the steam table; from which exotic specialties of cow feet curry, ox tail soup, and spicy fish in banana leaves wafted. Not to be adventurous for a first time, I decided on the dry beef curry platter at $5 served up on a paper plate. My first bite was explosively hot, so I sought refuge in a large mouthful of yellow rice. The mixed vegetable was likewise equally searing. Fortunately, there was a big bottle office style water cooler in the corner that I abruptly went to for a styrofoam cup of water. After the initial plunge, I grew to savour the more subtle spices.
